I saw something absolutely bizarre while cycling and I can't be sure I didn't fully just hallucinate it.
So I was pulling up to a main road after coming off a bike path, and near the junction there was this dude in a black hoodie that had a black-and-white photograph of a face on it. I realised, with some amount of bewilderment, that it was his face, and he was kinda doing the Dreamworks smirk.
And when he saw me staring at it, he looked at me and did the exact same expression with his real face.
I was fucking dissociating the rest of my bike ride, man.

Villain: The Lauding Worm
Born of hubris and old glories gone rotten, this pallid demon of pride exists to parasite those that consider themselves great; Lurking in the walls of their ancestral estates, whispering in their ear, bloating along with their egos, inevitably driving them to cruelty and ruin as it's appetite and expectations grow ever larger.
Adventure Hooks:
The party are travelling through the wilderness when they encounter a richly attired knight exhausted and on the edge of collapse. After helping her recover, she shares that she is part of a noble family renowned for their legacy of dragonhunting, a life threatening challenge she must exceed if she is to honour her family and claim her inheritance. The expectation of this great and dangerous deed has worn heavy on her shoulders all her life, and has become all too literal now that the demon has invisibly coiled about her neck. Fresh off it's latest incarnation, the Lauding worm is small for the moment, feeding off the knight as she destroys herself for the sake of legacy and will not allow her to be dissuaded from her doomed quest. It may infulence the party to join her however, seeing the potential for gorging on greater glory should the dragon slaying succeed. It the aftermath of the battle, or perhaps some weeks later, the Lauding worm will convince the dragonslaying knight that the great do not share their glory, and that she must eliminate the party so they do not tell of her weakness in needing aid, or her shame in not striking the final blow.
Something is wrong with the king, and the whole realm suffers for it. Obsessed with building expansions to his palace he neglects the welfare of his realm and the stability of his court to empty the treasury into ever more elaborate construction. Brigands run wild, his underlings scheme and attempt to seize each other's territory, and all the while the king pours over the plans of his architects and demands they build more. The Lauding worm has gotten to him, it lives and grows in the castle walls, and the more the king builds the bigger it gets. The servants whisper of rumbling behind the walls, and though it is excused as the byproduct of the constant renovations, it's only a matter of time before the demon's growth exceeds what can be constructed and it breaks free to rampage across the land.
The Lauding Worm has a special reward for those who feed it best, realized only in the rare times it grows bored of gorging itself on the pride of others and seeks to enact its own ambitions. Taking the guise of a mortal necromancer it raises it's favoured hosts from their graves and turns their talents towards Conquest.

🏙 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙍𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙢 𝙀𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 🌃
Cities are filled with a mix of people with different motives and morals. Who knows what could happen with that many people in one space.
1. Cries for help are heard from a dark alley
2. The town guards arrest one of the (innocent) party members. When questioned, they produce a suspect sketch that looks exactly like said party member
3. Strange noises start coming from a sewer drain
4. A sketchy salesman approaches the party and attempts to sell "wishing scrolls"
5. A stray cat starts following the party
6. The party is stopped as a wedding parade proceeds through the streets
7. An old man who appears to be homeless sits on the corner of the street. He refuses any money or gifts from the party
8. The party finds a shop with a woman who claims to be a fortune teller. Any further investigation reveals her to be a fake, except when the prophecies involve a death
9. A tabaxi cat burglar runs past the party and throws a bag of stolen goods in their direction before disappearing around a corner. Seconds later, town guards appear in pursuit.
10. A Cleric has set up on a corner, providing Lesser Restorations at a discounted price

Random encounter
As you traips through the dungeon. now alone. you come across a large machine attended by a well dressed goblin. “Welcome to the immortality machine.” it utters “It will allow you eternal life more or less. but only if you can bring yourself to use it.“ Skeptical of anything sold by a goblin you enquire about the price of such a device. “No price, just a list of instructions. everytime you use the machine you will de aged to that of a 14 year old child. you will remember everything thats happened and your experiences will make you stronger, smarter and wiser beyond your original capabilitys. but every time you return you must be stronger than last time or it will kill you.“ you know it wouldn't be true immortality if you had to be stronger each time. eventually you wont be able to get stronger. at least you think. you ask the goblin why he would offer such a device to you. “Mortals are easily tempted.“ it answered slyly.

Roll for initiative!
Good morning mental health blog! Yesterday I talked about my task menu and Megaboard, and the ridiculous system I have for organizing tasks. I'm happy to say that so far, it's working pretty well! It's been especially helpful keeping track of the tasks I ended up wandering off to during the day— it helps my self esteem to realize that I'm still accomplishing a lot, even if I can't see it on my to-do menu. I don't have to feel bad or argue and justify to myself why nothing got done in a day.
Today, I want to share something I call Random Encounters! I got this idea from How To ADHD on YouTube, and I decided to call it something fun and D&D related to gameify it and make it fun. It's pretty simple.
all it takes is a D20 die, some phone alarms, and a place to write/type a list. I wrote out a list of 20 small activities I can do without effort or planning, with a focus on physical movement and changing my environment. It's important to be REALLY specific; "do 3 squats" is a lot less paralyzing than "do squats", so I'm more likely to just accept it and do it right away, and "throw a juggling ball for 5 minutes" is less likely to distract and throw off my whole day than "throw a ball". Being specific helps quiet the brain fog voice that says "but that could mean anything, what's even the point? Will just throwing an object once or touching my toes for 5 seconds really even do anything??" And empowers me to actually do the things, because I know they're quick, effortless, and will definitely make me feel healthier. Some of the activities are more complicated or more sustained than others, but having to take the chance of rolling them adds to the fun. It's like playing a game with your friends where you could end up drinking a shot of pineapple juice with sugar OR straight lemon juice; the fun is in the chance that you could get a challenge instead of a treat.
To keep myself accountable and make sure I actually use the tool, I set 3 alarms at slightly weird times through the day. Times like 11:13 and 2:20, when I'm less likely to get into the rut of expecting it to happen. I also used a ringtone app to set the noise to JoCat (A Crap Guide videos on YouTube) saying "clickity-clackity you're about to get attackity" for a little added D20 fun 😛 every time JoCat tells me to roll for initiative, I roll the D20, check the list, and do whatever activity I landed on. After, I'm free to continue whatever I was doing, or use it as a refresh point and pick another Menu item to accomplish.
And that's it! It's just a fun little way to break up my day a bit and get me doom scrolling a bit less, and the bonus is that it helps my awareness of time. Here's my Random Encounters table, in case anyone wants to use it or take inspiration from it:
5 toe touches
Hang off my bed upside down
Go to the living room for 5 minutes
Put some ice in my waterbottle
Look for Blyth (he's very good at hiding)
Bug my roommate's cat for 5 minutes
Play with my roommate's cat for 10 minutes
Go to the porch for 5 minutes
Move to a song - you only have 2 minutes to pick one!
Spin in my desk chair for 3 minutes
5 lunges
3 squats
Stretch my arms and shoulders on a doorframe
15 calf raises (tiptoes)
Throw a juggling ball for 5 minutes
Change a piece of clothing
Hang from a doorframe
Plank for 10 seconds
Put one thing away
Wash 1 dish
Ironically, my Random Encounter alarm went off as I was writing this post. I rolled a 3 for going to the living room, and then realized I haven't had breakfast yet, so instead of timing it for 5 minutes, I decided to use the excuse to change my scenery and have breakfast in the sun 😊 because of that random encounter, I'm eating a meal, taking my meds, got to say good morning and pet Mars, and I got to see another human as one of my roommates was on his way out for the day. Promising myself to be accountable for at least the bare minimum has already made a major improvement to my day and my health.

"You cared for me, fed me, and provided me with shelter? Don't make me laugh." The silver haired girl would respond to the fools that dared to wake someone such as her in this world. She already had the entire group of cultists in her grasp, their desperate struggles futile and their demise as her playthings already at hand.
Tumblr media
"Do you even realize that I already knew that you intended to use me as a tool? Why did you not heed the warnings upon my resting place?" She would respond with a calm, deathly tone as she listened to their many excuses as they squirmed and begged for mercy, where there was none.
Errant spells did nothing to stop her... easy swatted aside with ease, only to the end of one of their own. Help was not to come to their cries, for there was already none left to hear.
The air and the earth quivers with a forbidden resonance, no words to explain the terrible nightmare, the prelude of what is to come.
Tumblr media
"A dark lord rising in the north, near the forest of Tob? Amusing, but that does not change how I feel about ones such as you... Those who are not even fit to be eaten by worms."
While the results of this encounter are not on the public record... the destruction of the tomb and its temple... and the immense gaping hole that now resides where it once was, is very difficult to hide with the whereabouts of the one resting within, lost with those who dared to plunge into its depths for unknown purpose.
Not one speck of dust or ashen bone remained... all purged from this world in an instant... and a lone traveler walks the roads, intention and goals unknown, traveling to and fro, leaving a terrible fate for all those who dared to cross their path.

Encounter: The Bridgebuilder's Impasse
Frustrated with interruptions to the flow of commerce, a local caravan magnate has hired your party to slay the giant who's repeatedly destroyed the bridge spanning a turbulent river causing delays and costly detours across the realm. The one wrinkle to this otherwise straightforward mission is that the giant is the one who built the bridge in the first place, and rather than hunting a rampaging monster you and your companions have signed on to assassinate a beloved local artisan.
Whoever said “two heads are better than one” never met the giant Gilbult Gultib (or Gultib Gilbult, as he often insists) who far more embodies the adage “Every artist is their own worst critic”.  Immensely talented in stonecutting and engineering, Gilbult (or Gultib depending on who you ask) has been building and rebuilding the same bridge for the better part of two centuries, sometimes letting it stand for a generation, sometimes scrapping it and starting over several times over the course of the same month.
With a perfectionist streak as wide as the river he's trying to cross, neither head can agree how, muchless when the bridge should be finished, agreeing only that what came before will be insufficient going forward and that they must return to the drafting board once again.
Adventure Hooks:
The locals are of divided opinion about Gultib Gilbult, most regard him as something of a curiosity, as much a fixture of the landscape as the river itself, while others see him as a gruff but otherwise pleasant neighbour or family friend. There's a very vocal minority that wish that he would get on with building the bridge, or else move and leave the maintenance to someone who won't tear it down on a whim, especially the merchants who end up paying an arm and a leg on unexpected barge fees. There's been an uptick in those actively calling for the giant to be driven off, all of which just so happen to be in the pay of the local quarry owner, who's in talks with the Caravan magnate about the construction of a tollbridge in the near future.
Having reached a new low of indecision, the giant has resulted to gambling with himself to decide the composition of this version of the bridge, anteing particular stones against himself in the hope that luck and strategy will let the superior side of his mind win out. This is just as much a stalemate as any other, but may present an opportunity for the party to resolve the situation without violence.
The tricky thing about accepting adventuring contracts from successful merchants is that they're VERY good at paperwork, and while this one did come with a sizeable advance, the fine print threatens numerous penalties (including debt and possible outlawing) if the party don't fulfill their end of the bargain and take out the giant in a timely manner.

Random encounter at the grocery store with someone else from this hellsite (technically I am from the email list days of the internet). You had your hyper kid (my household is at least 75% ADHD and at least 50% autistic). I had the motorized shopping cart and the stitch in my nose which comes out tomorrow. My hair is blue in the front. Some people don't have filters, and sometimes that's a good idea for discretion in shitposting!
I like your shoelaces.
Thanks, I stole them from the president.
