I'm curious what your opinions are in regards to people getting Jo wrong?

The most annoying one for me is when people reduce her to simply a prop in the Doctor/Master relationship. I mean that's a problem which plagues every female character ever who is in some way adjacent to a popular M/M ship. At least in her case most fans seem to like her, but they still give her a sort of secondary/third wheel status.

But in the show, Three and Jo's relationship is the core dynamic of her seasons. The Master is the third wheel. Part of the fun is stuff like him showing up at the end of the coccyx scene to be like "I'm sorry too :)" or when the Doctor goes into the church in The Daemons and the Master's like "ah Doctor! :)" and the Doctor just walks past him to Jo and is like "I'm so glad to see you."

I mean, I get that shippers will focus more on the Master, and that's fine, but I just wish people would remember Jo's an essential part of the dynamic, not simply some cheerleader on the sidelines which is how I've often seen her portrayed.

On a more subjective note, a lot of people seem to see her relationship with the two of them as a father/daughter thing (I get so many "Jo and her two dads" type comments on my posts), which is... not at all the takeaway I've ever gotten, and again largely happens because people are making the whole dynamic about the Doctor and the Master's relationship.

Three and Jo have a very interesting dynamic, and I think trying to force it into a parent/child mould does it a disservice. There are characters the Doctor does have that vibe with (Victoria for example, or Vicki and Dodo in a more grandfatherly way), but I don't think Jo ever sees him as a father figure (and she certainly doesn't see the Master that way). If you want to interpret it through a familial lens then "weird uncle" is closer.

One could argue that Three is sometimes paternalistic towards Jo (however he's like that with a lot of people), but Jo never sees him in that light or takes on a daughter role. She sees herself as equally responsible for protecting him as he is for protecting her (that's a very consistent theme in their relationship), and she literally marries a guy who she says reminds her of him.

idk, I just think there's a lot of interesting stuff going on there that people ignore in favour of a more simplistic interpretation, and that's not even getting into Jo's dynamic with the Master.

I'm curious to know about Tito! What's he all about?

Hey, thanks for the ask! Tito is my longest-running player character in Dungeons & Dragons. ♥ He's a red Tiefling cleric of the nature domain, worships Pan (god of wine, mountains, goats and hedonistic parties), is the tallest member of the party (6'5"), started out as an orphaned street urchin with only a white mouse for a friend (Egg the mouse, who has bizarrely long life, still accompanies him...), and gloms onto the party members as a found family fast. Oh, and he's got 3 levels in the bard class, too.

This guy has such high charisma that he can talk his way through some ridiculous scenarios. One of his favorite ongoing jokes is to convince people they can't see straight, asking "How drunk are you? Next thing you'll be telling me I'm a Tiefling!"

Tito loves nature and wine and dancing. He's worn flower crowns during the campaign multiple times. He almost always has wine on him, and considers wine, dancing, and sex as forms of worship to Pan. He's the party member who talks a lot, and tends to want to know the names of all of the NPCs (and remembers 'em later!)

Tito is also pansexual (see what I did there?), and on his adventures he's met and fallen heads over heels in love with a gothic Drow bard named Som. You'd think it was an opposites attract situation based on appearances, but Som is actually very cheerful, just about subjects like death and murder-laced poetry. Also actual lace.

I've been playing Tito for over three years, and he's been so much fun. I aim to have him propose to Som before they go off to their final battle of the campaign against an invading army of demons from another plane. "I want to be with you for the rest of our lives, even if that's just 'til tomorrow when we go to our deaths side by side" sounds like the kind of sentiment Som might appreciate. ♥

-Amelia is banned from Briarwood, when finding out about magic she's been taking books from Udonna's place to kidnap ghosts for....it's Amelia we can only assume. She chased Necrolai down through the forest with a pitchfork and a fire started by accident. Now she can only get ghosts and other paranormal spirits imported elsewhere like on bootleg amazon or on ghost dating apps Ollie made to find himself a boyfriend, like they literally have a magic ankle bracelet on her if she ever gets close to the forest.

Her wanted poster has been a staple ever since, she's even gotten an urban legend made about her...how the fuck did I think about this😭

So it's clear Doctor Who doesn't really know what to do with Gallifrey, but what I wanted to ask was - do you think the reboot should've destroyed it in the first place? Like don't get me wrong, I love S1 and Christopher Eccleston is one of my favourite doctors and it's all brilliantly acted and it works...but would you, if you'd been in charge of bringing the show back, have wiped out Gallifrey as a narrative choice?

That's a tricky question, because would I have done it? No, I don't think so. But RTD uses it very effectively to create drama, and so I don't think it was a mistake either. It worked for the story he was telling.

But imo bringing it back for the 50th was also a good choice, which for me personally doesn't diminish the weight of the RTD era, because it's not just a reset that ignores what came before - it's precisely because of the Doctor's experiences post-Time War and dealing with the emotional fallout of the choice he made that he can now find a way to make a different choice. (Meanwhile, destroying it again in S12 does feel like a reset back to the status quo of the RTD era, in a way that undercuts not only the emotional significance of that story, as the Doctor isn't the one responsible this time and Gallifrey isn't even her home planet anymore, but also its own story because the Timeless Child plot is far more interesting if the Time Lords are alive for the Doctor to confront.)

So I guess in summary I'm fine with the first destruction of Gallifrey, hate the second one, and I really wish someone would come along who knows how to utilise the Time Lords properly, because they have a ton of narrative potential that New Who has largely ignored.

hey so if you had to sort the stars into a baseball fielding lineup...

so honestly this is something i've been thinking about for like a year now because last opening day i got struck with the desire to write a robotter baseball AU!! and then wrestled with the dual desires to a) add more of the team into the au and b) be Baseball Accurate and not have an mlb team of all white boys -robo, many of whomst are european and probably actually Did Not Know what a baseball game looked like until the rangers won the WS this past season & they all went to a game together, as besties. i made a whole post about it (the baseball AU dilemma, not the rangers winning the WS).

when i did put some of my Thoughts down in a plotting doc this is what i came up with:

and i do think otter & wedgie as catchers, miro as a pitcher, and the top line as the outfield (robo left field, roope center field, pavs right field) still feels Right!

since that's most of a team anyway, let's round out the rest of a starting lineup (and maybe toss in a couple of other pitchers so miro can have a break every once in a while, because i care) —

per this article, jamie played first base, outfield, and pitched a little when he played baseball so he can be our first baseman because even though i by & large Do Not Engage with him much anymore, it just makes sense.

this interaction between wyatt & bobby witt jr. is deeply important to me (i have the beginning of a cross-sport arranged marriage fic centering on these two in my wip folder) (i will probably finish it off this summer) so for Bobby Witt Jr. Is A Shortstop reasons, wyatt is also a shortstop.

and actually just to round out the fact that we've got all of the top line in the outfield and most of the third line in the infield, let's make short king logan stankoven our second baseball, à la known short king second baseman josé altuve
