Get this into your thick skull: Bionicle addition

All of the names in bionicle that weren’t changed after the lawsuit, the Māori people ALLOWED Lego to keep. That means it is ok to use them. And even if there were names for new characters after said lawsuit happened that seem “culturally appropriative”, don’t you think that the Māoris would sue again? They didn’t. That means it wasn’t that bad. Also, I have proof that they SPECIFICALLY ALLOWED Lego to keep using the Māori names that were chosen for the toa mata (the main cast). Don’t you think since the Māoris had a problem with some of the names, if they had a problem with the toa mata’s names, they would have pointed that out first since the toa mata are the LITERAL MAIN CHARACTERS? A huge misconception is that the Māoris “didn’t catch” some things in bionicle, this proves that theory wrong! Even if they had missed some things at first, bionicle continued for less than a DECADE after the law suit! Don’t you think that they would have sued again if they found something they missed the first time?

The island from Moana is “Monte Nui”, the island from bionicle is “mata nui”. The island from Moana is not a bionicle reference.

The name “Jaller” does not fit in with the rest of the names in bionicle. It sounds soooooooooooo yankeedoodle! Even some of the characters who got their names changed sound more like bionicles than him. Maybe they were trying to make him an American stereotype? Like, his voice sounds like a dumb surfer dude. Even Tahu, an actual surfer dude, sounds like less of a surfer dude than Baller with a J over here!

If bionicle was that bad, it would be morally wrong to keep liking it. What a person likes dictates their character, but that’s only if you know the extent of what you’re doing and keep doing it. If someone got addicted to something bad as a kid without realizing how bad it is, it may be hard to move on from it as an adult.

in jaller’s name, they changed the “a” to an “er”, I think it might be a joke similar to the “clankers” thing in the Star Wars community.

the reason why Lego won’t bring bionicle back is because they fear backlash from twitter people, but considering that most people nowadays like bionicle, I don’t think they will get much backlash. They have even changed some of the names that the Māoris let them keep, because of how scared they are! Let them know they shouldn’t!

The matoran are not racist depictions of anything. Bionicle was inspired by christen Faber’s day dreams of the pills inside of his body fighting his cancer being actually alive. The depiction of antibodies as humans in media usually have them depicted as creatures rather than people. The concept of the matoran developed over time so they were more portrayed as humans than antibodies. Also, the previous names for bionicle seem a little iffy, but they probably didn’t know that voodoo was an actual practice, and the bone heads thing… probably either had to do with the fact that blood cells come out of your bones or since the bionicles were just literal animals back then, they didn’t have any problem giving them a funny name. Another candidate for a name was literally “doo heads” for crying out loud! 😂

poor shiro cannot catch a fucking break can he. first he gets a crippling disease he's got two years to live. then an angsty wattpad breakup with his boyfriend then he gets kidnapped by aliens and pumped full of alien weed then he crashes on earth with so much walking midlife crisis energy that he gains the skinning puppies to make a fur coat hair, and then he immediately gets shot right back into space by his shittass little brother and weirdo friends with the literal matt clone. then this poor man is made the leader of an alien war, becomes a father to four fuckass teenagers through accidental child acquisition, is forced into the kim kardashian lifestyle by a ginger on drugs, gets kidnapped again, gets cloned, fucking dies, somehow comes back (yeah I'm not really clear about this) then this pathetic wet cat of a man, this stressed jean valjean father of four, experiencing his fourth midlife crisis and millionth mental breakdown, gains that senior citizen swag at twenty five. you could colour match his hair with a polar bear. then he witnesses a walking loreal ad (derogatory) get melted alive, watches a castle get blown up, loses three years in a space time jump and then finds out his ex- fiance who broke up with him right before he left has fucking died in a purple thumb invasion before he got to marry him. but oh no no no that's not the end for this poor sad man. poor guy doesn't get a second to grieve before he is visually assaulted by a less cunty sue sylvester ripoff and her gang of bitchy cheerios (this is admiral s*nda), and yet again made a leader against his will, and shot right back off into space again. then he watches the only other responsible adult in this entire franchise (hot badass space princess who like shiro did not catch a break) sacrifice herself and is left a struggling father. ends up marrying some random fucko. all while suffering through his shitass hot topic brother and blueberry disaster's doomed yaoi romance. oh yeah and he's only got one arm. give the guy a BREAK. FREE my man he doesn't deserve this 🔥🔥

Personal opinion on webtoons and vertical scroll format:

It sucks.

Not just from a personal preference standpoint but also from a creative standpoint.

I’ve seen many creators who work on webtoons originals comment on how they miss doing regular comic page formatting and I honestly think the vertical scroll CAN be used creatively… artists just don’t have the time to do it.

They expect 70+ panels every update (which is ridiculous btw, at most 1 standard page comic would have 10 panels at most to give you an idea, so basically webtoons is asking for 7+ pages per update which is insane) which can be stressful but they also expect you to somehow do that many panels in a week!

When I see people complain about the background art in some of these comics I IMMEDIATELY come to their defense because would YOU honestly be able to draw over 70+ backgrounds in that time? The story is more important at that point! So I really don’t care.

Not to mention that workload is KILLER on an artists drive, motivation, and overall health (mental and physical) I don’t see how any of that is okay.

Regular comic artists who don’t use the webtoons format have expressed their own problems with all these issues and they make a single page a week!

Unfortunately, the draw back from doing a regular page a week means less exposure to an audience so there is a draw back but this consumer mentality when it comes to comics is disheartening.

Idk what or where I will be posting my comics in the future (maybe tapas? They allow regular page formats I think) but I don’t intend to bend to the webtoons gods will on this matter either if it means I can finish a story reasonably with my squirrel brain.

my favorite scene in today’s episode has to be when hyunwoo was going to return the new engagement ring but haein had to reveal she was trying it on, then made an excuse that it’s only to “analyze trends” so he mustn’t misunderstand her intentions. yes, it’s funny and cute. but we see that hyunwoo is getting better at reading haein beyond what she tells him, an improvement from always being an oblivious fool taking every word she says at face value. he understood the subtle i rejected your proposal not because i don’t love you and don’t wanna be with you. and the teasing at the end that he’s not gonna return it so she can always analyze trends whenever she wants? oh im proud of my parents

Honestly so sick of men not getting it tbh. There was a story in the news about a women's only exhibit in Tasmania being court-ordered to allow men (btw, this wasn't a trans issue; anyone who identified as a woman was allowed in but cis men were not). This exhibit was supposed to highlight the inequality between men and women by making men feel excluded. So obviously a cis man threw a fit, went to the court, and won.

I've seen threads and posts full of cis men celebrating this and just plain missing the point of the exhibition. They keep saying stuff like "Imagine if a restaurant said "no blacks" or "no gays" allowed. Discrimination should never be tolerated!"

They don't understand that's not a good analogy. It's more like saying "no whites" or "no straights" allowed. Men have never been discriminated against for their gender in a meaningful way. Men didn't have to get rights passed protecting them based on their gender. Men don't currently have to fight against laws stripping them of their autonomy while a social movement tries to convince them they need to accept "traditional roles" that would confine them to the home.

Like, women or queer people or BIPOC wanting a place to themselves is not the same as cishet white men excluding people from their spaces. Marginalized groups are not the same as powerful groups. Hope this helps.

an annoying thing about self-publishing is that sometimes your books get "rejected from distribution" ie Amazon and company don't like them, but they don't tell you why. they give you a list of "common reasons for an e-book to be rejected" and then you have to go on the world's lamest scavenger hunt to figure out if your cover image isn't perfectly formatted or if there's a line-break in your epub that it doesn't like somewhere

Tbh I don’t rlly see why people ship Adam and Lute

Like, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE guitarspear, and I WILL consume guitarspear fanart, but I can’t rlly bring myself to ship it, especially when I look at the original show.

Like every scene they’re in together gives me more bestie vibes than any sort of romance. Also, I feel like if it was romantic, then Adam would be more..yknow, open about it? Since he’s Adam and all. Like, I feel like he would boast about it when Charlie first meets him.

Also sometimes I see fanart of Lute being hopelessly in love with him, and though I do love those and I will save them in Pinterest, I can’t rlly see it. None of what she does shows a hopelessly in love person. I guess you could argue her backing him up in Hell is forever kinda counts? But like, it’s less in a “I’m so in love with him” way and more in a “look at him!!!!! What a guy.” Kind of way??

I also just think the idea of a mysogynistic and sexist man somehow getting into a real platonic friendship with a woman even to the point of being her hypeman at some points is pretty cute.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for shipping. Hell, most of the reason why I join and consume different fandoms is to see what I can ship. But I can rlly see any romantic or even sexual tension between them at any point when they’re on screen, and despite them not having that much screen time, it’s definitely enough to have some sort of romance.

I guess you could interpret the him smiling at her as he dies scene as romantic. I get that. But personally , I just think a friendship is sweeter. Or maybe even friends with benefits. Thank you for coming to by TED talk, there are probably people who could’ve worded this better than I did, but I hope you can see where I’m coming from

Been questioning my gender identity recently. It started with some silly reasons like mailing Bridget in Guilty Gear Strive, one of my favorite games being Celeste, wanting to play games with a female avatar. I kept saying "no, couldn't be. Absolutely no way." I talked about this with a friend and he was like "I dunno, man. Seems like it" and I kept just saying "Couldn't be me." So anyways, that escalated to me being lost in thought, distracted for hours wondering about this. Then I decided to mess around a bit to try and figure some things out and found out a couple things. This made me question even more because I remembered that I've wanted to wear dresses before "just because it would be fun. I might look nice. I could do a spinny." Then I remembered that I've had the thought "I wonder if I'd be a pretty girl" multiple times. This all came to a head for me when I suddenly had the thought "I want to be a cute girl kissing a cute girl." And hoooooo-boy that made me feel some kind of thing. I just still feel I'm probably not because I've never had gender dysphoria (I think). Sure, some things are annoying about being a guy but those are normal guy annoyances. Bodily functions, body hair. Stuff like that. This feels silly to write out given nobody will probably see this but I just need to get it down. I've been so confused about what I am. I came to the conclusion that even though I want answers, I'm still just me. This is all so damn confusing. A few footnotes about other things I've done that would be feminine are wearing make-up and wearing heels. The heels were when I was a little boy but that still probably matters some. With dysphoria, I don't think I've ever had it. I started thinking about if I would be happy with a woman's body and I realized I'd be fine with either kind of body. This is all so damn confusing and I want something substantial but I just don't know.

Unsolicited TMA rant no one asked for part two:

One of my favorite things about TMA is how the characters treat the story. I’ve seen people joke about how Jon treats this like a horror movie, and Elias treats it like an office comedy, and yeah, that is really funny, but I feel like that’s actually a really interesting way of looking at things. There’s lots of horror movies that all the characters either treat it like a horror movie, or more often than not, that they all don’t. It ends up with stories about people making all the same dumb mistakes over and over, that just makes you frustrated that no one will make smart decisions in a clearly bad situation.

There are bad decisions made in the Magnus archives of course, but none of them are from just pure ignorance. Even the dumb decisions you’re able to understand, and don’t seem like a cheap cop out to just move the story forward. Like Jon breaking the table. That was pretty clear to see coming that would be a bad decision, but it’s a likable choice because, you can actually understand it. He treats this like a horror movie, he’s paranoid, trying to connect the dots, not just waiting for the monster to come kill him. He’s being proactive, even if he’s so freaked out and sleep deprived to do it well.

And I think that’s such an interesting way to write characters. It makes sense for not every character to fit into the genre the story is. It makes for such a dynamic and interesting cast when one character is paranoid convinced someone is out to get him, while most everyone else is pretty calm about the whole thing. Because of course, it’s just a normal day at the Magnus Institute. And Martin, he actually tried to protect himself against the horrors after his apartment is attacked by worms, realizing that yes this is indeed horror. Elias treats it like an office comedy because that’s what this is to him, genuinely amused watching everyone run around confused and afraid because he knows what’s going on, and is convinced he’s untouchable by it.

And I think when writing your own characters, that’s a good thing to think about. What type of story is this? And how well do the characters understand what sort of story they’re in. Are they convinced they’re in a tragedy? Horror? Comedy? Romance? How right are they? I think it could be really useful in nailing down a character’s voice, and figuring out the sort of decisions they might make. A single character may make one choice in comedy, and a very different one in horror, even if it’s the same scenario. So I just think that’s really interesting to think about

hard work? at least put in the work!

as my mom once said to me:

"forget hard work! at least do work"

please, for some of us, talking about "hard work" is far away for us. so forget about working hard. what about just working? not working hard, just doing at least something for your future, yourself, your family. or are you okay with being a huge disappointment to others and yourself?

just doing the bare minimum at least for yourself! you don't have to go over the top or make it so hard for you. at least put in the bare minimum so you don't have to live the worst life. okay?

doing at least 5 pushups + 5 squats a day

studying a bit for exams

saying one affirmation of self-love a day

if someone talks to you, don't try to run away from the convo.

all this isn't hard. its just what every human being should be able to you (not talking about anyone with disabilities, thats a different case). okay?

the first step to this would be to reduce the amount of screentime everyday. i don't care if its "educational" or "self improvement", thats all bs. whats actually gonna make a difference is that instead of tricking your brain into thinking you're doing something or telling yourself "i'll work my hardest tomorrow", you don't work your hardest today but you work.

putting in little effort is still putting in effort.

i know that a lot of you are gonna be like "no but i believe in myself that i can put hard work into something i care about!" so okay. good job for believing in yourself, love that. but... are you actually gonna do it? or are you going to continue to sit and watch "educational" "self improvement" videos because it distracts and tricks you into thinking that this is hard work?*

*don't get me wrong, of course if you used to be a person who scrolled a bunch of nonsense, the first step would of course be to change what you consume into something better. but there comes a limit where you have to actually get up and put in the work. simply changing what you consume isn't all you need to do. theres more steps to improving your life. just like when you start with a new skill; in the beginning you may start with something very simple and easy for you to do. but once that becomes your "comfort zone" (as in very/ much easy to do), you need to move to something that challenges you more. otherwise, you never grow.

sure, believing that you are capable of doing it is certainly the first step of almost anything, but believing isn't just enough. you gotta actually do it. you don't earn my respect by "believing you can do it" (what are you, a toddler?) but by actually executing your plan. and for most of us, it turns out that our definition of "hard work" is actually just watching "self improvement" all day.

so what am i implying here? :

if you believe you can actually do the hard work, then do it. do not waste another second on self improvement videos (remember; those are just meant as a guide, a starter. a place for advice). if however, you find that you finally realise that hard work isnt just watching self improvement videos and having to actually do something, then shut up with the hard work. at least do work.
