Went on a walk today in the forest (Northern California) and brought back a bonanza of pictures.
First four photos are of a couple of beautiful and weird mushrooms called Elfin Saddle (Helvella vespertina).
The next little cup-shaped fungi is possibly a 'Toothed Cup' (genus Tarzetta), then a goopy pink substance that is possibly 'Crystal Brain Fungus' (myxarium nucleatum). Next are two photos of what is probably 'False Turkey Tail' (stereum hirsutum). All of these fungi were growing out of rotting wood. It's been raining heavily for the past few weeks (including yesterday), so it's a good time for fungi.
The purple wildflower is a native with a weird common name-- Blue Dicks (Dichelostemma capitatum). It's, uhh, also called Wild Hyacinth, but honestly, why would I call it that when I could use 'Blue Dicks'? The yellow flowers are meadow buttercups (Ranunculus acris), a naturalized flower originally from Europe.
There was also a ton of mosses, lichens, ferns, insects, birds, and others. Just stuff to see everywhere. After living in the desert for so long, it's such a relief to hike in a place like this. Plus a gorgeous waterfall at the end of the hike.
