Was playing around a lil with how i draw them
Anyways, im bored so below is just me rambling about my tmnt fan iteration. I also might change the name. Maybe
If ur gonna read it, be warned, it’s long 💀 i tend to yap alot. I’ll make a clearer post once i figure everything out lmao
I guess i’ll start by explaining this post first. Baxter stockman found a crystal near an alien crash site and he found it super pretty, he wanted to give it to april’s mom, who he fancied. At the time, he didnt think much of it. He just thought it was a regular pretty crystal that was probably formed because of the crash impact or something.
As baxter gives the crystal necklace to april for her to give to her mom, april ends up giving it to Leo instead because april doesnt like her mom and refuses to give any gifts to her. Leo wears the crystal necklace in gratitude for April and on that night, leo had something happen to him. It’s like something from the necklace is taking over his body. That something is basically the crystal’s energy getting embedded to his body, this includes a hologram being (like an AI i guess) that is part of that crystal
This hologram being is what u call a Chronix (im bad at naming, i just pulled that outta my ass😭), that mainly takes a dragon-like form, but it doesnt really have a set form. Theyre holograms after all. Chronix doesnt immediately show itself to Leo, as just like any other virtual assistant, it only shows up when needed. When the crystal’s energy was embedded to Leo, he just thought that it was somehow Donnie’s mischievous doing. Maybe he was experimenting with things and Leo got caught in the way. Weird things happen pretty often and the first suspicion has always been on Donnie due to his mysterious and mischievious nature so leo quickly dismissed it and went on with his day after Donnie gives Leo a device that would help tame the energy surge.
One day, a bunch of utroms have been spotted roaming around the town. While April was still sleeping, an utrom managed to get into april’s place through an open window and climbed onto leo, causing him to freak out and accidentally spawn a holographic whip that would break April’s shelf of her beloved figurines. Leo begged Donnie to fix everything and he also tells Donnie that the device he gave isnt working. Donnie agreed to fix the issues and he tells Raph and Mikey to somehow keep April stay in her room so that she wont see the mess. While Donnie is fixing up his device, Leo is sitting alone in his room, wondering what actually is happening to him.
Prompted by Leo’s question about what’s happening, Chronix appears and tells him that the energy surges he’s getting are because he’s not used to it yet. His body is not trained enough to be a container for the energy nor to gain better control of what he spawns. Chronix explains further about what it is and where it came from: The utroms have a very advanced living condition and what keeps their conditions alive is a big sun crystal that powers everything in their planet. It is linked to everything there and it casts virtual assistants to serve the utroms. As they were fleeing their planet that’s about to be taken over by shredder (i imagine him to be like Wander over yonder’s lord hater lol), the utroms took the big crystal with them as its huge energy source is believed to be able to form a new world and Shredder will have his own loyal army. Cuz virtual assistants cant think or feel for themselves, they just do what theyre prompted to do, theres no way for them to betray him. Shredder took over that planet because he wants that power in order to conquer the galaxy. When the utroms fled with the crystal, they crashed to earth, causing the huge crystal to shatter to multiple pieces. those who came to check out the crash site notice these crystal fragments and take them, either its for collection, or for profit purposes, or for research, whatever. Ppl like shiny things ok. The utroms are trying to gather all the pieces to form the crystal whole again, while shredder, and other alien invaders, are also actively trying to seek out for this crystal.
As Leo is one of those who is in possession of the crystal, he is now a target, hence why an utrom climbed up onto him that morning. Now knowing that he’s not supposed to be in possession of the crystal, he tries to take off the necklace but he is now bonded with the crystal so he physically can’t take it off. The crystals dont have the same effects on other living things tho. But I think i’ll not say the reason for that yet. I have an idea, i just gotta think more about it
To avoid any more accidents, he asks for chronix’s guidance on how to make his body stronger to contain and control the energy. Chronix tells him that he just needs to train n stuff. For better guidance, he tells his brothers. And then april, who then mentions that there’s a dojo nearby and thats where they meet casey jones and his grandpa who owns a pet rat, Splinter, who shortly gets in contact with an utrom and gets mutated. Also the grandpa’s pretty old so he passes away not very long after. Casey is still too young to continue his legacy, but splinter is now an old wise rat who knows of the grandpa’s techniques. So splinter takes the sensei role to initially train only leo and casey, but the other turtles and april also wanted to join in just to have something to do

I’ve been thinking about the episode Battle Nexus New York & I was wondering why Big Mama chose the enemies she did to tie to each of the Turtles
Tumblr media
Big Mama: Each of you is linked to an enemy and you will need to work together to complete a challenge against one of my Battle Nexus Champions!
Raph is tied to Ghost Bear, Mikey is tied to Meat Sweats, Leo is tied to one of the Sandro Brothers & Donnie is tied to Hypno
Tumblr media
Raph: I’m tag team partners with Ghost Bear? Thank you Big Mama!
Tumblr media
Mikey: I get to team up with my favourite celebrity chef! Thank you Big Mama!
The choice to tie Ghost Bear to Raph & Mikey to Meat Sweats seems like an obvious one considering that Raph’s a fan of Ghost Bear & Mikey is a fan of Meat Sweats, they also have skills relevant to Raph & Mikey’s Battle Nexus New York Challenges of Wrestling & Cooking.
However if the Battle Nexus New York partners were chosen for who the Turtle’s would like to work with then it would have made more sense to partner Leo up with Hypno for his love of magic. Hypno might have actually been a good choice for Leo’s Battle Nexus New York partner as well considering a magician is also a performer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However if Leo’s Battle Nexus New York challenge required Leo to have a performer as his partner, the fact that the Sandro Brothers were said to be acrobats in a circus before they were mutated might be the reason why one of them was chosen as Leo’s partner.
Tumblr media
However I’m wondering if the reason why Big Mama chose one of the Sandro Brothers as Leo’s partner was just because they were performers or if there was another reason.
In Rise the Sandro brothers have two notable episodes which they appear in, ‘The Evil League of Mutants’ & ‘Man VS Sewer’
Tumblr media
Leo: This is why you never go to New Jersey!
Big Mama might have chosen one of the Sandro brothers for Leo for the opposite reason that she chose Ghost Bear for Raph & Meat Sweats for Mikey, in contrast to Big Mama giving Raph & Mikey someone they would like to work with she gave Leo someone he’d primarily view as an enemy.
Tumblr media
Leo: You know how savage Raph gets when he’s alone, he’ll totally loose it if we don’t find him fast. Clocks ticking
The episode Man vs Sewer is also a notable episode for presenting Leo’s leadership skills before he was made leader so one of the Sandro brothers being chosen as Leo’s Battle Nexus New York partner might be a slight nod to that episode & Leo’s future as the leader of the team.
Tumblr media
Why Hypno was chosen as Donnie’s Battle Nexus New York partner is difficult to say, Hypno has pretty much nearly always faced the Turtle’s as a group & has never really singled out a specific Turtle. If specific enemies were chosen for each Turtle one of the Purple Dragon’s might have been a better fit for Donnie (though they aren’t mutants).
The only time Hypno has ever really faced Donnie specifically is when Donnie fought him in the episode The Evil League of Mutants (which might also tie in with Leo’s partner since Leo fought the Sandro brothers in the same episode).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But other than the fact that Donnie fought Hypno in the episode The Evil League of Mutants there isn’t really a specific reason that Hypno was chosen as Donnie’s partner, Donnie isn’t a fan of stage magic & Hypno isn’t particularly suited for Donnie’s Battle Nexus New York Challenge of winning a chess game either.
Tumblr media
Leo: I bet he used a secret door!
Donnie: Ah trickery, the science of cowards
Tumblr media
Hypno: Full disclosure I don’t know the laws of the sport
The reason that Hypno was chosen as Donnie’s Battle Nexus New York partner might be the opposite reason of why his brothers partners were chosen in that Donnie was given a partner who wasn’t a good fit for his challenge & similarly to Leo’s partner Donnie might have been given a partner he wouldn’t get along with since Hypno is all about (stage) magic while Donnie prefers science.
Tumblr media
Donnie: I’m the science guy, if mystic powers can do everything I can do but better then why would you guys even need me?
Hypno might have been made Donnie’s partner as a small reminder on Donnie’s own insecurities of science vs magic.
So for the Battle Nexus New York Partners; Raph & Mikey were given partners who were suited to their challenges, who they would want to work with, Leo was given a partner who was suited to his challenge but who Leo wouldn’t want to work with & Donnie was given a partner who wasn’t suited for his challenge who Donnie wouldn’t really want to work with either.

Now that we're entering into 2024, I'm asking some artists and writers that I follow:
1) What is the one piece you're most proud of from this past year?
2) What are some pieces that you would have liked more people to see? If you can include links, I'd love to go check them out!
3) What were your top three favorite pieces (art, comics, fics, etc) that someone else has made this past year?
(As always, no pressure to respond! Feel free to just ignore, or let me know if you'd rather I not send you these kinds of asks in the future.)
Hi again!!! Thanks for the ask!
1) Hmmm for an art piece, my favourite I think would be my Shredder Risetober piece. I’m very proud of how my art style and colouring style changed during the whole Risetober event, and I’m quite satisfied on how I pose the turtles and April in this piece
Tumblr media
For animations, it would have been my Just A Man Animatic. Spent a long while on that and I’m very proud it
Tumblr media
2) I guess I would love for more people to see:
Future Leo Animation - I animated that to try out Procreate Dreams. I would like to think that the mask tails and cape’s flutter is very satisfying
These wallpapers - Because I loved how I drew the tattoos. The flowers all have their own meanings and I included little details like lightning storm in Leos tattoos, machinery gears in Donnies, Dragon scales in Raphs and Crane wings in Mikeys
My old header - Soldier Poet King. What can I say I love medieval/fantasy vibes
3) Only 3?? Hoooo boy. Have more:
Tapa’s Yellow Light and Nothing animatics - because those 2 inspired me to make animatics of my own and I’m very grateful for them.
The Lemonade Leak fic by @turtleinsoup and The Rotten Reflection fic by @nicoforlifetrue - those fic changed my brain chemistry immensely. They’re living in my head rent free, I’m a changed person after I read them. They have similar…. Taste? Vibes? I dunno how I would describe the feelings they inspired in me and I could ramble on and on about those fics for hours
Honestly all of @yeye23’s storyboards but especially Escape-a-tello - they really just came in, drop banger after banger animatics and went teehee

When you get to the lair, Raph and Leo have already been infected, with Mikey and Donnie you try to make an antidote, only to discover that Donnie's been bitten.
With no other way, you sacrifice yourself.
Heres the Link to AO3:

-------
Donnie was starting to freak out. Leo had begun acting really strange since they bought the egg back to the lair. Since neither April nor Splinter were available, he sent you a quick text, asking you to come over to help. But when he saw how Leo bit Raph and how Raph acted after that, he regretted requesting your presence. This was more dangerous than he had anticipated and he had sent you right into the dragons den. He had called you numerous times but you hadn’t picked up. Donnie presumed you rushed over and forgot your phone at home.
Donnie and Mikey, being the only ones not infected yet, hid themselves in the kitchen. They planned to get a sample of the virus in the egg to create an antidote for their brothers. As they were about to begin their mission, a loud bang filled the room, making them freeze. Both Leo and Raph had freed themselves from the locked down garage and entered the kitchen. Since neither of them were currently guarding the egg, it was the perfect moment to strike.
Mikey led the way to where the egg sat on one of the beanbags. Before they could insert the needle for the sample however, both Raph and Leo attacked them. Their eyes totally black. While Mikey fought back against Raph, Donnie was trying to hold Leo at bay. Then he heard it.
“Hello?” It was your voice, Donatello panicked. And his fears were correct, because as soon as the two infected brothers heard your call, they turned their heads, growling. Then you walked around the corner. You were out of breath, you must have been running all the way here, Donnie thought. Then he saw you smiling.
“Woah, I’m glad you guys are alright, so, where’s this egg Donnie told me about?” Right when you said that, Leo and Raph sprang into action, ready to attack anything and anyone, who tried to hurt the egg. You gasped and darted out of the way. Donnie and Mikey immediately coming to your aid, fighting with their brothers. You didn’t know how to react. Never in all the time you’d been friends with the boys, had any of them ever tried to hurt you. Something must be really wrong.
Mikey had successfully flung Raph across the room, where he didn’t move anymore. He then quickly came to help Donnie, who was being charged by his twin brother. Tying him up with the chain of his mystic Kusari-fundo. When you came up to them you looked down at Leo, who sat on the floor, you hugged yourself. Leo looked nothing like himself. The scowl on his face and the way he fought back against his brothers scared you.
“Guys, what’s going on?” You asked timidly. But Donnie just touched your shoulder, looking behind you, his brows furrowed.
“Where’s Raph?” You turned around, Raph wasn’t where Mikey had flung him. There was just a huge dent in the wall, where he’d hit it. Mikey then cursed and walked a few steps to look at the beanbag.
“He took the egg, Donnie what are we gonna do?” Mikey sounded scared too. Hearing his nervous voice made you even more scared. Donnie thought for a moment.
“We’re gonna take Leo to my Lab, and enclose ourselves in it, maybe I can fix up an antidote from his blood.”
The three of you heaved Leo into the Lab. After the two finally filled you in on what had happened, Donnie took a syringe from one of his cabinets.
“Well, let’s hope our plan works.” He said and stuck the needle in his brothers arm, Leo snarled at him. You took a step back, still unnerved by the way his eyes were blacked out. Then you saw it.
“Donnie, you’ve been bitten.” You said and Mikey gasped.
“They are right, there’s a bitemark on your shoulder, Donnie, that must’ve happened during the fight.”
“That means-“ Donnie started to say. “-I’m infected! I have to hurry and get the antidote ready.” He got up and ran towards his work table. He started mixing chemicals together, the liquid turning all kinds of different colors. After about a minute of Mikey and you just watching Donnie work, he suddenly stumbled back holding his head.
“I can’t go on. I’m starting to turn.” He groaned. You looked at Mikey, an idea forming in your head.
“Donnie, can you explain to us how to make the antidote, so we can finish what you started.” Donnie blinked open one eye and looked at you. He would have to, since he was sure to not be of any help in a few minutes. He had to tell you and Mikey what to do and quickly get out to not hurt any of you.
He explained the last steps carefully, hoping that the two of you would accomplish the task. He then sank to the floor. You immediately went to his side.
“Mikey, begin the process, I’m gonna get Leo and Donnie out of here, so we’re safe in the Lab.” You said, getting up. You then took the chain, with which Leo was still bound in your hand and lead Leo out of the Laboratory, like a dog on a leash. Leo then rushed back to the egg, still bound. You watched after him, glad he didn’t attack you again. Coming back inside you took Donnies arm and swung it around your shoulder, helping him up.
“Okay, Donnie, I’m gonna have to kick you out of your own Lab.” You spoke and Donnie chuckled quietly.
“That’s okay, as long as I don’t hurt you.” His head dropped on your shoulder. You smiled, even infected with a virus, he was still being considerate.
You were just out of the door when Donnies collapsed and pulled you down with him.
“Ah, shit.” You said, with his weight on you, you couldn’t get back inside. Hoping he wasn’t too far gone yet, you spoke to him.
“Donnie, could you maybe get up?” But he didn’t answer. You laid on your stomach, trying to crawl out from under his legs. You called out for Mikey but then you felt Donnie shift now laying completely on top of you, with you back to his plastron, you felt him breathing heavily against your neck.
“Why not stay with me, (y/n)?” he said and you felt his lips on your neck, his teeth slightly grazing your skin. Your eyes widened, there was no way out, you called for Mikey again.
“Mikey, close the door! Finish the antidote!” Mikey came rushing towards you, but you held up a hand to stop him.
“Listen, I’ll be fine, just finish it and get your brothers back to normal.” You said but then you felt Donnie cease his nibbling on your neck. He pulled up his head and looked at his brother. He then snarled and lunged for Mikey, which in turn squeaked and pressed the button to close the Lab door.
Donnie banged his fists against the metal, you got up from the floor. You didn’t know what to do. You weren’t sure he was still in there, or not. You decided to call his name softly. His body suddenly stopped moving at all and you got scared again, pressing your body back against the wall of the hallway. What if he attacked you, just like Raph and Leo had. But Donnie just turned around facing you, his expression unreadable.
He then started walking toward you, you started to sweat.
“Donnie? Come on, you’re scaring me, are you still in there?” you asked, your voice shaking. But he just kept walking. You backed away from him slowly, holding your hand out in front of you.
“Donnie, I swear, if you attack, I’ll knock you out.” You said with false confidence, knowing you couldn’t stop any of his advances. He then grabbed your wrists with his hands and pulled you towards him. You huffed out a breath as you hit his plastron. He was hugging you, his face in your neck again.
“You smell so good.” He said and you were relieved, so he was still in there. You hugged him back.
“You should join me, (y/n).” he mumbled against you and you wanted to answer but felt his teeth on your neck again. He bit down. It hurt and you let out a short shriek. He unlatched his teeth from you and began to lick the wound slowly, as if to apologize. But your mind began racing before you could lecture him about it.
Your body started to feel hot, you heartrate skyrocketing and you felt sweat begin to form on your forehead. What was going on? Donnie had explained to you, that it had been a mutant wasp that had stung Leo. You just assumed the infection would work the same for you as it did for them, but it seemed you thought wrong.
It was as if you could feel anything a hundred times more intense as before. The air around you seemed too thick to breathe, your clothes felt too heavy and you face felt like it was on fire. But worst of all, the places where Donatello was touching you seemed to tingle. His tongue on your neck sent shivers down your spine. You whimpered and Donnie raised his head to face you. He was so close.
“I’m sorry, but now you can stay with me.” He said and smiled softly. You couldn’t talk, your mouth felt dry so you just grabbed his neck desperately, hoping he would understand that you needed help. But as soon as your hand made contact with his skin you pulled back. His skin felt like lava and you groaned.
“Hey.” Donnie said, voice soft. “Let me take you to the others.” His hands came down and grabbed your hip, pressing you into the wall. You suppressed a moan. “Don’t worry, they won’t try to hurt you again.” His hands glid up the side of your torso and your eyes rolled back into your head. “I’ll make sure of it.” Then you felt his lips on yours. You couldn’t take it anymore, everything felt amazing and awful at the same time. His lips were moving against yours, you hummed into the kiss, your body burning up.
Hearing the sound you made, Donnie pressed his tongue against your lips. And even in your dazed state, you knew you wanted this. So, you opened your mouth, kissing him back. The kiss was frantic and at the same time so passionate, that your knees began to weaken.
You body felt like it had a mind on its own, you felt every bone in your body screaming at you to make more contact while at the same time feeling like you needed to pull back. His right hand pulled you closer to him by your waist while his left hand grabbed your neck.
Your knees finally gave out and you slumped to the floor, kneeling in front of him, his hand still holding you by the back of the neck. You were both breathing heavily. He then kneeled down too, holding eye contact with you. His eyes were blacked out. You hadn’t noticed at the beginning, but now you realized how dangerous he looked.
“Let’s go back.” He just said, picking you up from the floor with ease, carrying you towards the living room area. When you walked in, Raph and Leo turned to face you, scowling.
“Don’t worry, they’re with us.” Donnie said. Sitting down with you on his lap. The brothers gave you a look, but didn’t say anything more. It seemed like the egg was in the final stages of hatching. You hoped that Mikey would be finished creating the antidote soon, not because you were scared of being eaten, but because you yourself were hungry. Desire burning inside you. Your body temperature had risen to an unhealthy level. It felt like you been deprived of physical touch for ages. And every time Donnie would stroke your sides, while you sat in his lap, it felt like he was burning you.
When Donnie began to kiss the bite mark lightly, you whined. His hand came in front of your mouth.
“Just a few minutes more, then it will be over.” He whispered in your ear. He took your whining for anticipation, since he himself was excited for the wasp to finally hatch. But that was the last of your problems. Your stomach was aching. You let your head fall onto Donatellos shoulder while he continued kissing your wound.
You were gonna die. You would be eaten by a mutant wasp. You didn’t even tell Donnie how you felt about him yet.
The egg began to crack in that moment and three wasps exited the shell. This was the end. You closed your eyes.
But instead of feeling wasps eating away at you, you felt a prick in your neck. You eyes shot open. Mickey was standing a few feet away, looking proud.
“Told y’all I would safe you!” He yelled and you blinked. He was right, your body felt normal again. But before you could thank him the boys sprang up, with their weapons ready. Defeating one giant wasp after the other. When they finally all went down you sighed relieved.
Donnie came up to you then, rubbing his neck sheepishly. His brothers were still cheering and celebrating their victory.
“Hey.” He said, sitting down next to you.
“Hi.” You answered, not looking at him.
“Listen, (y/n)…I’m really sorry about what happened. I shouldn’t have texted you to get here, but I didn’t know it would turn into this.” He tried to explain. “And I know what I’m about to say is no excuse for what I forced upon you but…” he hesitated, you looked at him then. “-the infection causes everyone to smell really dangerous to the infected, so the host destroys any invader. And…-“ he paused again, trying to find the right words. “-my…my crush on you caused you to not smell dangerous, but rather really delicious.” His hand came up in front of his face. “So even though I didn’t really have control over myself, I should’ve seen this coming. I should’ve sent you away.” He ended his speech.
You tried to process what he had said and you stilled. ‘My crush on you’ Donnie had said.
Wait.
“You have a crush on me?” you asked. Donnie looked at you, he couldn’t believe what he just heard.
“That’s what you’re concerned with? I forced myself on you.” You furrowed your brows.
“Donnie, I reacted differently than you to the infection, my body felt super weird, it was like I was in heat or something.” You explained. He still looked puzzled, so you continued. “You didn’t do anything I didn’t want you to do, I have a crush on you, too.” You smiled at him when you saw how red his face became. “It just didn’t feel quite right, since I wanted to do these things with you….sober.” you said. Donatello looked thoughtful.
“I guess since you’re fully human, the mutant venom reacted differently with your- wait… you mean to tell me we can do those things again?” He grabbed your hand excitedly and you blushed.
“Yeah, let’s do that again, when we are not infected with anything.” Both of you chuckled and Donnie took a hold of your face.
“I’m looking forward to it.” He then leaned in and you kissed each other, fully conscious.

Enjoy
After resolving the mystery of mysterious creature plaguing New York Amoxtli found herself right at home with the turtles. She enjoyed their shenanigans and Raph enjoyed challenging her to spar sessions often.
The first time it happened they found out that Amoxtli was in fact a warrior princess. The superior strength now joined with hundreds of years of practice with spears, Macuahuitl and other weapons gave her an edge that brought a variety into their training sessions.
Meanwhile Donnie was excited to find everything he could on dragon culture and biology. Leo felt he needed to protect their newest friend from his brother. Amoxtli didn't mind though. She would answer honestly or when she didn't want to say something side step the truth to her best abilities.
"I can't lie," she explained to Leo one day. "I can omit the truth but I cannot outright lie. On the upside I can also tell when someone is lying to me."
But she never seemed to mind to be around his family. She held a reverence for Splinter as the elder of their family. She always had a good laugh around the brothers but rarely joined the shenanigans. She sucked at video games but still tried to play against them. It pleased Leo how well she interacted with everyone.
"They are wonderful. You are all so open and close as family and you all care so much for each other," she told him at a different time. "I miss my older brother watching you all."
"Well, if he ever decided to come to you world, he is welcome in the lair," Leo replied, watching with her as Raph and Donnie were trying to trick Mikey out of his pizza slices.
"That's nice of you but he's dead," she said with her usual bluntness causing Leo to find himself at a loss for words.
Through summer to late autumn Amoxtli was visiting them regularly. During winter months it slowed down as she hated cold and it was harder to drag her out of her own apartment. The last time Leo saw her the multiple layers of her clothing she wore to be able to visit almost turned her into a ball. Not very different from all those videos of bundled up toddlers. Mikey tried to see if he could roll her. He almost succeeded.
Leo found himself missing her a lot. Her poise and dry, a bit odd sense humour. Her wide smile when she'd do something that made others laugh or if she did something good. Her confusion listening to Donnie but at the same time fascination with all things science-y.
Leo often would find her, frowning with an empty, slightly glazed eyes after such sessions.
"Are you okay?" He asked her one time amused.
"I think my brain is evaporating," she replied in such deadpanned way making him laugh.
"You're not the only one," he snickered, reassuring her.
He missed their talks. She struggled a lot with her position, the future that was expected of her. He related to that. They would spend hours talking what would they do if they just could. Sometimes she'd fall asleep on his shoulder and he'd carry her to his bed, while he'd sleep on the couch.
He missed seeing her watching Mikey cook. She once tried to help but as a result received a similar ban to Leo on entering the kitchen.
"I am really sorry about that pan," she told Leo later. "I could get him another one..."
It took a truly amazing cup of hot chocolate prepared by her to unban her entry.
Leo found himself listening for the tale tell clinking of her jewellery in the sewer tunnels that would announce her arrival. Sometimes he caught himself looking for the red tips of her feathers in the crowd. He tried to drop by her work a few times but due to the cold Amoxtli got herself shorter shifts.
The usual snow storms eventually completely cut her her 'outside' time to zero.
"Missing your girlfriend, Leo?" Donnie teased him once. "Wow, this feels so good to do that. Is this why you guys tease me so much about it?"
Leo snorted. "She's not my girlfriend, we are just... Very good friends. She's a princess."
"Yeah one who can bench press Raph and lay all four of us on a mat," Donnie pointed out.
"How's your mermaid girlfriend?" Leo changed the subject quickly.
"She's great! She's somewhere off the coast of Africa and found another merfolk village-" and that was enough to launch Donnie into an info dump of all the things he found out recently.
Leo politely stuck around listening to it. So much easier than talking about Amoxtli.
Then spring came around. After a round of usual shots Donnie made for them to manage their mating season better, Leo was excited to see his draconic friend again. To see those pitch black eyes and smell the shampoo. He imagined her stroll into the lair then them going in for a spar and then- hold a fucking second. Leo shook his head. Maybe seeing Amoxtli during the season wasn't a good idea...
"Hey, Donnie, uh, is you know the shot working for you?" He decided to check with his brother.
"Yeah. Mikey and Raph show positive reaction to the improved formula. Now that we're older I had to make it bit stronger. Especially for these two." Donnie grimaced a little. "Is something wrong with it for you?"
"Nope, all is good," Leo lied and quickly evacuated the lab.
It really didn't seem like anything else was wrong with him. He didn't experience heightened aggression or territorial instincts... He remembered one time Raph managed to avoid Donnie. The red terrapin got way to rough in the dojo almost breaking everything. They all had to hold him down for the shot...
But no, Leo was fine. Except for when he thought of his friend. It felt shameful. She didn't deserve him thinking of her like that. She was a proud warrior, a princess and a hundreds years old dragon.
"Seriously Leo get yourself together!!" He thought to himself.
One time, by the end of summer April invited them all to a cabin for vacation. Splinter encouraged them saying it would be good to recharge their batteries, maybe find new training techniques. Leo invited Amoxtli with them. There she showed them all her full form. They all had been gathering their jaws from the floor. She went from a 5 feet nothing woman, to the 33 feet tall humanoid, winged snake to a 20 feet wide, hundreds feet tall, with not 1 but 3 sets of feathery wings dragon. Leo thought to himself she was the most beautiful and terrifying thing he had ever seen. And according to her she was on a smaller side.
She offered them to fly them around. He, Mikey, Donnie and Casey took her on that. April, Master Splinter and Raph stayed on the ground. It was amazing. Exhilarating. Even if it was like a minute. They didn't want to risk too much. He remembered how happy and bouncy Amoxtli was after that.
His memory focused on how the top of her exposed her toned stomach. Her hair moving around, brushing over that long neck. Leo bit his lips. Fuck. What was wrong with him?
Then she came for a visit. Leo heard the excited yells from the main area. Mikey's greetings, Raph immediately jumping to get her to spar with him. Donnie probably waved from his work station. Leo took a deep breath in. Alright, calm down. Calm down. He exhaled.
She was there. Smiling at his brothers. Leo felt something boiling inside of him. When he looked up at his hand he noticed he crushed the doorframe. He took his hand away as if it burned. Fuck. He couldn't go and see her like that.
Meditation. Meditation would help him.
But Amoxtli noticed the lack of her friend among his brothers. She missed him the most during those cold winter months.
"Where's Leo?" She asked.
"Eh, Fearless is probably in his room being broody leader." Raph shrugged.
"I'll go check on him," she announced and immediately went towards Leo's room.
"Good luck!" Mikey hollered. The orange and red clad turtles snickered and fist bumped.
Amoxtli ventured into Leo's room, knocking politely.
"Can I come in?" She asked.
Leo's head snapped upward. He managed to steady himself for a little while with his meditation. Now she was here. He jumped up to his feet.
"Hi, uh," he called back, hesitating, looking around his pristine room. "I have a mess here!" He said, fully knowing she could tell he lied.
It gave her a pause. "Is something wrong?"
"No! No, everything is fine!" He tried.
"Leo..."
"I know!" He groaned. "I'm sorry."
"Do you want me to go away?" She sounded hurt.
Did he? "No, but if I see your right now, I might do something I'm not proud of," he replied. That was the truth.
"Like what? Do you want to talk about it?"
"Yes," he replied. He took a deep breath in. He could control himself, he could control everything. "Come in."
The door open and she stepped inside. Leo wasn't prepared. Somehow she opted today to wear more modern outfit. Her blue scales took on a shape of a wrap dress with a V neck. A cute bow tied around her waist. It was shorter than her usual skirt, the slit exposing her legs from about knee height. Amoxtli wasn't curvy but it still hugged her nicely. She even wore light blue heels, making her legs longer.
She noticed his look. "It was warm today and I saw a dress like this in a magazine. I thought it was nice," she explained sheepishly, swooshing the skirt of the dress a little..
He thought it was very nice too. His brain immediately supplied him with an idea of pushing it up or untying it like a present. With his teeth. "Breathe Leonardooo, breatheeee," he mentally scolded himself.
She closed the door behind her, separating them both from the lair.
"You look very nice," he managed to say, his mouth feeling dry.
"So, what's wrong?" She as usual went straight to the problem.
He sat on his bed and offered her a chair to keep a reasonable distance between them.
"Um, well," he started unable to look her in the eye. "It's spring, uh." He felt the need to change subject. "Do... do dragons have mating seasons?"
"Well... yes and no," she replied but tilted her head confused. "Only mated couples experience those usually until the first offspring is born, or egg is laid. Then their drive to mate lowers to managable levels, though I have been told it can vary from case to case."
"Mated couples?"
"Oh yes! Dragons mate for life, there's this whole beautiful ritual of soul tying. It's just amazing," she sighed delighted at the memory. "It's very special because finding your soulmate is the only way to reproduce. We live long but we don't have that many youngs because of it. But we can mate with just about any race outside of our own, which is a plus!" She explained.
He listened but at the same time his eyes were drawn to her knees, the way she held her legs together and the V-neck of her dress. He could just kneel in front of her and- he coughed and looked away. Boy was it getting hot in here or-. At the same time he scolded himself. Sex must have been so special for her species.
"That's why young dragons generally date around and copulate for fun to educate themselves and find a suitable mate later in life," she continued, dropping unknowingly bomb on his head.
"What?"
"My peers often had sex among each other for fun. I find it very similar to how humans are, minus the stigma and shame. It's just something we do to pass time," she added.
"Oh."
"I wasn't much for those though, uh, I'm very short for a female,. So they rarely invited me," she continued, looking at her hands," and I always found the need to at least like someone a little bit in those scenarios. I just don't understand how can you fuck someone and not be at least friends with them!"
He recognized the signs that she was rambling now. She tented to do that when agitated or nervous.
Leo slipped off of his bed. Like in that interrupted fantasy he knelt in front of her. There was something he learned from her all these months ago. Dragons in human shape were extremely easy to bruise. Or kill. That's why one had always do one thing.
"Can I touch you?"
Ask permission.
She looked at him, shocked, her eyebrows up and her crest flared up.
"Oh." She blinked. "Do... do turtles have mating seasons?"
He nodded.
"Oh," she looked to the close doors then to him. "Yes, you can."
Before he lost it completely. "Is this your first time?"
She shook her head. "No."
That was all he needed.
He lifted his hand to her legs. Her light brown skin paled a little over the winter but not too much. It was still smooth and soft. He kissed just above her knees. He heard her inhale deeply. He kissed the other leg, then slowly parted them for better access. Then he slid his hands upward over her thighs, pushing the dress up and further apart.
Amoxtli never wore underwear. If she needed for sparrings she always morphed her scales around for more appropriate wear. Today was no different.
Leo was already feeling a bit drunk from being able to touch her like that. He could feel her ass in his palms. The dress was hiding nothing now. From the blush he saw on her skin and the tell tale scent of her arousal growing she wasn't going to stop him. Her legs spread further and she slipped a bit lower in the chair.
Leo kissed a path for himself leading to her sex. He noted it didn't look any different from what he saw in porn in human women. She was smooth, with her inner lips poking out through the outer a little. He gave her a lick. She jumped a little but quickly settled.
He noted how she watched him. So he was going to give her a show. He sat more on the ground in more comfortable position and got to work. He kissed her lower lips as if he'd kiss her mouth. He tested her texture on his tongue, tracing the edges, pushing past them and sinking into her. He inhaled her musk and something within him churred pleased. He pushed his tongue into her, exploring her, tasting her further. She was so tight inside, so hot and wet. He felt her legs trembled, fighting him to close around his head. He almost. ALMOST. Let her.
He forced himself to pull out. His tongue traced a trail up, between a hood where her clit waited for him, hidden like a pearl. Or was supposed to be. No what he found were two little buttons. Well... wasn't that a curved ball. But he wouldn't be himself if he didn't think on his feet. He stroked an eight around them then licked like they were delightful ice creams.
Up to that point Amoxtli managed to keep quiet. Her hands were slowly crushing the seat beneath her, permantently embedding herself into the metal frame. Her breathing was quick and a deep blush spread over her chest and face. She never felt like this before. Self pleasure never felt like this before. Oh, gods above. She moaned, throwing her head back, completely surrendering to whatever magics Leo was casting upon her.
Then she felt his digits entering her and something choked inside her to be released in a long moan. But that wasn't all. Leo wasn't done yet. He sucked on her clits, rubbing them at the same time with the flat of his tongue, while his thick finger, hooked up began to pump quickly in and out of her.
She gripped onto his head, the released leg hooked behind his shell. Her peak build within her and when Leo added his second finger inside she cried out her release, last second slapping one hand over her mouth. She whimpered as Leo kept going to a couple seconds, while she rode her orgasm until she pushed him away.
His face was soaked. He was so proud of himself watching her sprawled out before him. He stood up stretching himself a little. They weren't done. And she knew it.
Before he could react Amoxtli grabbed his belt and pulled him to her. The force had him bend down where she captured his lips. With her feet she made him kneel again. Her deft fingers undid his belt and zipper. His pants dropped down and he was pushed further down. She growled at him and Leo never felt more turned on before.
Amoxtli climbed into his lap. Their mouths met again, hungry, frantic. Both fighting for dominance still. Her hands traced over his face to his neck. He finger resting under his chin, where she had a grap on the side of his throat. He gripped her at the back of her hair and pulled down. She rubbed herself over his cock, spreading her juices over him. His mouth fell open, catching breath, as he pulled away from their kiss. He reached down to stroke her and she moaned.
He saw blue scaled peppering her face. Her black, human eyes switching to yellow, reptilian ones. She pushed his head back, keep pushing, keep rubbing onto him. He was breathing heavily, fighting to keep his eyes open. Her mouth slipped over his neck. He felt her kissing a spot, then her tongue. Then her sharp, sharp teeth biting down.
Leo cried out. "Fuck!" He felt himself spill over his stomach.
Dangerous, fucking dangerous, she was. Poised and proper princess but here, now. He saw her. And she was gorgeous.
Leo picked Amoxtli up and pressed her to the wall. He held her legs hooked over his elbows, keeping her open for him to nail. Their eyes met. He was hungry for her. He kissed her like a starving man, sloppy, fast and hard. Then he pushed himself inside her.
She gasped into his mouth. She sank down on his pulling away from the kiss. Leo growled, his hips snapping fast inside her. Her nails - claws, sank into his biceps. Fascinated, she watched how his dick pierced her, fucked her into the wall. She didn't register her own moans anymore. His heat filled her, consumed her.
Leo watched her, so vulnerable under him. She could snap him like a twig without blinking and yet she let him do this. That thought shoot straight down to his core. He punched the wall above her as his seed filled her. Her walls squeezed him tight like a vice as she came just a second later.
"Again," he panted out.
This time they managed to get on the bed. He threw her on top of his sheets, face down. In a blink, her scales shrunk, the dress disappearing and forming just a belt around her midsection. It exposed a tattoo covering her entire back. Was he more conscious he'd ask about it. He will, most likely. Later.
Amoxtli raised on her knees and he grabbed her hips, slamming the air out of her as he entered her again.
It all turned blurr after that. When he came to he saw himself shooting the last weak strands of his seed into her mouth.
Leo collapsed. He was so thirsty. This time for water. His body was sore but god he felt so damn happy. Amoxtli nuzzled the side of his face. He noticed purple bruises in the shape of his hands on her arms and hips and legs. He noticed a thin trail of blood in the corner of her mouth and he could feel a sting in his shoulders and arms. They made so much mess.
A laughter bubbled inside him, their eyes met and the giggles erupted between them. They kissed, sweetly, lovingly.
"Amoxtli?"
"Yes?"
"Do you want to be more than friends?" He asked while the happy hormones that Donnie would know the name of were still there. While he still had the courage.
"Like dating?"
"Yes."
"I'd like that."

TMNTober prompt: What a Tragedy!
ao3 link
All of them are Mikey's:
Micheal: IDW Angelo: TMNT vs. Batman Mike: 03 Michelangelo: 1987 Mikey: Rise
@tmntober-2023
__________________________
Mikey was cold. Something chafed against his wrists and he had a crick in his neck. He must've fallen asleep weird again.
Yawning, he stretched out his arms. At least, he tried to. His hands seemed to be bound together by iron cuffs, which had chains that rattled with the movement.
Something wasn’t right. Groggily, he opened his eyes. Oh. He wasn’t at the lair. A single, flickering light swayed from the ceiling, just about illuminating the bars that kept him confined.
“Where am I?” He whispered to himself. His usually steady legs struggled to hold his weight as he struggled to stand up.
“Hey, guys, I think he’s awake” a voice called.
Mikey jumped. Where did that come from?
“Finally. Hey, who’s on catch-up duty this time?”
“Mike, I think”
“No, I could’ve sworn it was Micheal.”
“What? No. It’s Michelangelo.”
“Whoa, dude! Don’t make me do it again. It's definitely Angelo’s turn,”
There was a bit of silence, then who Mikey presumed was Angelo sighed. “Alright, Alright. I’ll do it.”
Mikey struggled more against his chains. All these strange voices were freaking him the heck out. They seemed to be coming from out of his cell, however, so that was a small relief.
“Ok, first off, my name is Michelangelo, but over here they call me Angelo 'cause there are so many of us here. We don’t really know who took us, where we are, or how to get out. Trust me, we have tried every way to get outta here under the sun! We even tried to get Mike to turn into a dragon (he can turn into a dragon, by the way! Isn’t that the coolest? I wish I could turn into a dragon). But these stupid cells just don’t like opening or something, 'cause we’ve had no luck.”
The voice trailed off for a bit, which Mikey was a bit thankful for. He was getting a bit overwhelmed. He wished Raph was here, he’d know what to do. He’d smash out of here like a boss and Mikey would— no, he’s got this. He can take care of himself just fine, thank you, and he will continue to do so even in scary “I’m in a prison with other mes” scenarios.
“Hey,” one of the voice whisper-yelled. Mikey thought it was Mike, “mention the food.”
“Oh, right! So, the food here is absolutely terrible. We never get any pizza! Oh, and we never see the dude that drops off the food no matter what we do. Michelangelo calls it ‘building suspense’, whatever he means by that. But yeah, no luck on catching the bad food dude… Is he all caught up now?”
“Yeah, I’d say so.”
Angelo gave a pleased exclamation.
Mikey flopped onto the ground and stared at the floor. Angelo’s words were swimming around his head, rushed by a raging current into a debilitating whirlpool that flushed all comprehension out of his mind. He wanted to go home. He wanted his brothers. They would know what to do. Donnie would come up with a gadget to save them all, Leo could charm the “bad food dude” into letting them out, Raph would smash the bars into oblivion. But it was just Mikey and he had no idea what he was going to do.

TMNT AS D&D CLASSES—
NOTE: This is not, “What their classes would be within the story of this world,” but rather, what classes and/or roles do they tale on while actually sitting down to play Dungeons & Dragons!
Though I’m making this with my versions of the characters in mind, I think the classes/roles pretty much work for any version of the TMNT!! Without further ado… let’s get started!
Donatello: The Dungeon Master/Non-Player Characters
As the turtle teen who found the Dungeon Master’s Guide washes up in the sewers one day, he took it upon himself to learn how to play and to host a game for his intrigued brothers. He enjoys narrating, setting the scene, and guiding his brothers through the scenarios he dreams up, his stories allow his brothers to experience the world above the sewers without having to hide from people.
NOTE: Leo enjoys the game most of all, especially because he can actually relax, play the game, be surprised, and let Donnie take the lead.
Michelangelo: Bard
As the resident party dude, it only made sense to me that Mike would play an entertainer, someone who could charm his way through any conversation or dastardly situation with his wit alone. Mikey’s character is very pacifistic until his other two party members are in serious danger.
Leonardo: Cleric
Leo, being as spiritual as he is, leaned toward the Cleric. He was drawn to the idea of someone linking the mortal realm and the spirit realm, the realm of the gods.
But moreover, he was drawn to the support role. Being able to heal his brothers throughout combat, and try his best to make sure they never fall. Something he wishes he could do on an actual battlefield.
Raphael: Fighter
Raph has taken the role as leader throughout most of their excursions in the lands in which Donatello makes. He plays his character similar to Aragorn from Lord of the Rings, which Don read to him when they were young. As opposed to their real battles, and experiences, Raphael keeps a level head when he plays Dungeons & Dragons, portraying his character as faithfully as possible to his imagination.
All in all, this is one of their common hobbies, something they can all turn to together when they want an escape from how the world treats them, or after a long battle, or even a rough day of training. They can escape to world’s with no rules. Where there is no prejudice against walking, talking teenage turtles.
Oh and Splinter? Splinter makes them snacks and sits in while they play. Just watching and learning, so that he can talk about the game with them, ask questions, and join in on this thing his sons love so much, but that he cannot fully understand. Because that’s just what dads do.

Apocalyptic Love: Chapter 13: New plan
Tmnt masterlist. Ultimate masterlist. AL series links
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I can't believe you want to work with the Dragons!" Raph screamed, hands waving in the air as both brothers paced back and forth around the rooftop. Leo and Raph had been arguing since the moment the Purple Dragons were mentioned, both storming off to an abandoned tower block to rant their frustrations.
"It's not that I want to actively work with the Dragons, Raph. But we have no choice, I'd rather work with the Dragons for a few days than have New York stay like this hell-hole!" Leo spat back, for once thinking logically.
It was hard to say which brother was right, both having persuasive arguments. On one hand, the Purple Dragons were known as crooks and low life scum, and that was before the Foot took over. But on the other hand, if they knew where the rebel base was that could give you an advantage over the Foot.
"Even after everythin' they've done, ya still willin' to see the good in 'em? God, how brain dead are you, Leo!" Raph chided, eyes wide and mouth hanging open. Leo growled in response, quickly growing sick of this conversation. Turning his back, Leo folded his arms and let the nightly breeze dance across his face, "You want to do this your own way, Raph? Fine, but don't come complaining to me when everything crumbles around you."
"It won't crumble cause I won't be on my own, isn't that right guys?" Raph then turned to you, Mikey and Donnie, all of which had just been stood watching the commotion happen. From what Donnie had told you, this sort of stuff happened all the time when they were younger, always fighting over petty things like playtime or pizza slices. It didn't sit well with you, but then again, you never had siblings, born and raised as an only child; an honour for some.
But when Raph called upon you three again, veins popping out of his forehead, you paid attention. "Who agrees with me, eh? The Purple Dragons are nothin' but a bunch of scum that stain these streets, they ain't ever gonna help us." Raph waited for one of you to move, but at the same time, you couldn't feel anything below your nose.
In silence, Donatello stepped forward and moved to stand by Raph's side. Leo clearly questioned his decision, the way his jaw dropped was a give away, "Donnie?" he muttered in disbelief.
"I'm sorry, Leo, but Raph's got a point; which is something I thought I'd never say. We can't trust the Purple Dragons, they're criminals, they would never help us."
"Mikey, what about you?" Leo then moved on, dismissing anything more that the purple-banded terrapin would say, he now knew where his loyalties lied. The youngest jumped over to their leader's side, agreeing with everything Leo had said, people can change was his mantra.
"Sorry, dudes, but I gotta agree with Leo. Everyone can change, yo!" he cheered, not quite realising the impulsiveness of his decision. Then everyone's eyes turned to you, staring intently, awaiting your choice. You had never felt more pressure in your life, even in school. You flicked your gaze between the two team leaders, each staring at you with determination and mock confidence, arms folded and chests bared.
Sulking your head down, you solemnly walked over to Raph's side, a small audible gasp muttered from Leo's breath. You couldn't bear to look at him, knowing he was so confident you would choose him over his hotheaded brother, but yet, here you stand by said brother's side. It's not like Leo cared, he simply brushed it off with a hard glare and an etched frown, it's not like this meant anything, just a petty squabble.
But why did it hurt so much, to see you taking Raph's side instead of his own? It doesn't matter, you weren't his, not to claim.
"I-I'm sorry, Leo. But, Raph, he's right in some ways. The Dragons won't change unless you make them, but then...would you still be the good guys?" you still hadn't looked up at him, feeling a weight in your stomach, the bile bubbling with uneasiness.
"Well, now that's settled, I say we should get going, team. We can't start fixin' blue boy's mistake here, if we're too busy chattin'." Raph praised a wide smile on his face, pearly whites aimed at his brother. Turning with a hand on Donnie's right shoulder, Raph dragged him along the edge of the rooftop, jumping down on the fire escapes until he reached the concrete floor, "C'mon squishy! Let's get a move on!" his voice echoed up.
You rolled your eyes, the motion causing your head to shake, looking up at Leo you finally saw the distraught in his sights. They weren't on you but the spot where his other two brother's had been, "I'll look after them," you promised him. Mikey had long since left, only leaving the two of you alone together, like the many times before. Leo nodded in understanding, thankful that you would risk yourself for them if needed, yet he still couldn't get the sick sinking feeling to leave him.
"Be safe, I'm counting on you coming back." he voiced, tone wavery but firm. You nodded your head at him, only like he did moments ago, "Always, captain." you winked, following your team. Leo felt his cheeks bloom, he knew he'd regret telling you about his Space Heroes fantasy late that night.
--
"Alright, guys, time to come up with a plan. So, what we got?" Raph asked, oozing confidence and cockiness. You and Donnie glared at him, "Nothing! We have nothing!" Donnie exclaimed, exasperated, but he said what you were both thinking.
Raph's cocky smile soon turned into a frown, shoulders slumping forward, shell scrapping the wall behind him. You had settled under a bridge, the river that flowed under it dried by the Foot a year or so ago, their reasoning was to stop a flow of supply ships.
"C'mon, D, you're the smart one here! You gotta know somethin'. And you, ya seem pretty smart too, so you two geniuses come up with a plan!" you now understood why Leo was the leader, not that Raph couldn't handle it but his execution was a little...harsh.
"Well, let's see..." Donnie drifted off, using a metal finger to draw into the dirt, dust rising as his finger drew line after line. However, under his constant ramblings, he'd smash a hand against his failed plan and start again. This went on for over ten minutes, all you and Raph did was watch as Donnie slowly lost his mind.
"I can't crack it!" he then shouted, hands clutching his head. You ran over to him, soothing hands rubbing up and down his arms, you weren't too sure why you were rubbing the metal one but you didn't stop when the thought crossed your mind. Donatello seemed to calm down, thanking you with panted breaths, standing to his full height he strode to Raph.
"I can't think of anything that would be remotely successful, the closest we got was with the original plan."
"So what're ya suggesting, Don?"
"I'm suggesting we just update, change, improve, whatever you want to call it, our old plan. Everything would remain the same, the only variable we would be changing would be the addition of the Purple Dragons. Instead, I propose we swap the Dragons for another group."
"Yeah, well, there's one problem with that, Donnie." you huffed, arms crossed over your chest with a pout. You watched as the boys got to thinking, a saddening look emerging on their faces at the realisation, "We don't have anyone else," Donnie whispered, vocalising your collective disappointment.
"Wait a minute," Raph flicked his head up, fingers snapping when he got an idea, "C'mon, follow me!" he darted off, following the tunnel that led to the sewers. He didn't give you much warning as he sprinted away, leaving you and Donnie to look at him with surprise, you soon lost his form and in that moment decided to follow him with haste.
The smell of the sewers was vile, luckily you didn't stay there as Raph had led you to an open pipe. The light from outside shone through, blinding you on entry, a tough hand grabbed ahold of your outstretched arm and pulled you into a hard chest. Looking up, you caught the vibrant green of Raph's eyes, he let you go and continued on his trail.
You were in a dump, and not just any dump, but New York's dump. The smell of rotting trash and decaying bodies filled the air, your nose having trouble filtering out which smell came from where. Piles of garbage ranged from small piles to skyscraper towers, ready to fall with the slightest push.
"Ugh, this place is-"
"Amazing! Oh, would you look at all that scrap metal! A-and this carbon monoxide alarm!" Donnie beamed, cutting off your insult. He moved around the junk piles, pulling out and grabbing ahold of random bits of trash. He gasped aloud, all the oxygen vastly inhaled into his lungs, "Is that an H180 Camshaft!"
"I don't know, Donnie, is it?" Raph laughed out, mocking his younger brother. Donnie repeatedly nodded his head the moment he pulled the metal free, "It is! Oh my god, this place is like a tech boy's heaven." he sighed. you stifled your laugh, not wanting to eagerly mock him like Raph did, but try to share some enthusiasm.
"More like nerd central, c'mon, this way!" Raph grumbled, but a small smirk was pressed on his lips from what you could see. Over the last few days of knowing the brothers, each had started to grow on you, including Raph. You had obviously befriended Mikey, that would be a given when the guy saved you from a Footbot massacre. You had found solace in Donnie, intrigued by his genius thinking and witty comments. Raph was a little harder, barely spending time with the guy would do that to you, but he was alright in your books.
Then finally there was Leo, the leader and oldest. He was different, you had formed a bond, sure, but you still felt distant from him. Earlier when this whole fight went down, he had a longing in his eyes, but his cold tone said otherwise. You needed to know more about him, what exactly were you getting into.
"Welcome to my humble aboded." Raph's voice rung out, his thick accent making the statement less suave. Raph held his arms in a bow, allowing you both first entry into his simple home, said home being piled under a trash heap. It wasn't that big when you looked around, a rotten old mattress sat in one corner, while some empty beer cans and a walkie talkie sat perched on a table in the other. There were plenty of magazines covering the floor, some you didn't want to remotely look at, you noted that there were a lot of motorbike ones though; perhaps an interest or hobby? you mused.
"This is where you were staying, ugh, it's even worse than your room back in the lair." Donnie groaned, only now picking up on the horrendous smell. Raph shrugged his shoulders, jumping back to land on the mattress, the room suddenly covered in dust. You coughed out what dust you inhaled, waving a hand around your face until you could see again, "So why are we here, oh wise leader?" you ridiculed.
"I got somethin' that might give us a lead." he rolled from his bed straight onto the floor, looking under the table, then moving further until his legs were only visible. "Where are ya you crappy little-" he mumbled to himself, voice strained as he searched around.
"Aha!" he laughed, banging his head on the table, a small curse falling from his lips. Pulling away with caution, Raph stood back on his own two legs and turned to face you and Donnie with a tiny book, "What is that, your diary?" you chuckled, a wicked smirk on your face.
The book was tattered, probably from the years of use it had seen, the casing was leather, scratched in some places. It had looked like it was originally a deep maroon, but with some exposure to the sun, the corners had faded to a light pink. As Raph thumbed through the pages, you noted that they too were tattered and ripped, a coffee brown colour instead of what you assumed was white.
"How is some diary going to help us?" Donnie huffed, just as transfixed as you were when watching Raph.
"It-it's not a diary," he grunted, not fully paying attention to you both, "This is gonna tell us where to find help," there weren't many pages left in the book, yet it still took Raph time to go through, checking each page methodically.
"Great so this tiny diary is gonna help us win the Foot war, we're doomed." you groaned, leaning your back against the walls then quickly realising it was all garbage. You sprung away, patting your back of any rubbish that suck to the fabric of your clothes, ugh, you hated the dump.
"This diary- I mean, book- isn't goin' to win us the war, never said that. But, it will get us anotha player in this team."
"What are you going on about, I thought we had no one left, you even said it yourself!" Donnie groaned, hands waving in the air to dramatise his point. Raph ignored his brother, nearly dropping the book when he slowly came to the last few pages. But out from a random page dropped a small slip of paper, it fluttered in the air, slowly falling to its descent on the ground.
Raph had dropped the book and used two hands in an attempt to catch the paper, it had looked like a cat trying to catch a fly or leaf; cute. When he did eventually catch it, a huge smile was on his face.
"Someone looks pretty smug with themselves," you chided, watching as his glee took over his whole body. It was weird seeing Raph like this, the guy kept up a hard image but to see him spinning in circles on one foot like a princess was very...amusing to you.
You got a look at the paper, all three of you crowding around it in Raph's hands. Written in crood English was an address, you didn't recognise it as being a part of the city, but it was an address nevertheless. No name was attached, no number, nothing; what you did find bizarre was the sketch of a hockey mask beside it.
You wondered what it could all mean.
Gonna surprise you all by saying it is NOT Frayed. While that is easily my most popular and supported fic, I am most proud of my own TMNT AU: Solitude. The amount of time and research that went into creating the boys and their little quirks (Leo and Mikey having larger lungs, Raph having a bite force of 3,700 PSI, Donnie peeing when threatened - okay that one stopped when he turned seven, but still relates to his species) AND the world building and backstory I made for them all are just things I put my heart and soul into and was immensely proud of the outcome. It also gave me opportunities to work with artists such as hecate, Blip (@bantamblip ), Mori (@morikothehalfangel ) and Char (@characcoon) and those experiences themselves were fantastic, each art made me sob. I love the boys and the story I created and could ramble for hours about them, and I'm so excited to show the outcome of their story (which I'll link at the end for anyone interested).
Outside of TMNT, I wrote a fic called Legacy for a different fandom and my writing was at it's peak for that time frame. That was an AU/concept as well and was popular in the very small fanbase, but that was mainly because it was one out of like... 15 chapter books for the canon series LMAO
💎
ANGST. ANGST ANGST ANGST, ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE'S COMFORT AT THE END. All of my solitude one shots are angst/comfort - Mikey getting his arm broken, Leo getting the dragon carved into his soft shell, Donnie hibernating (which isn't finished yet). Idk why I like stories that start with people in pain, but I adore the endings where they heal and find their strength again. I usually take a break from the angst/comfort with normal fluff, but I tend to lean towards that style of writing in my own stories as well.
Although it really could be water downed to: Turtle is hurt, but we get a pile at the end
Typing the Turtles (ROTTMNT) Part 2 - Donatello
This started out as an investigation into the turtles’ insecurities, because one thing the show does so well is demonstrate that they are still teenagers. And being a teenager is a confusing experience - there’s angst, drama, exploring one’s identity, a lot of growth, and overall figuring out who you are. That’s a messy process, too! And we see this mess in our turtles: they mess up, they’re learning, they self-doubt, they have fears and insecurities, but they’re also discovering their strengths and how to overcome their inner obstacles.
So after thinking about all this way too long, here’s my psychological breakdown of each turtle (I’ll be referencing MBTI and the Enneagram, but will include links for more general information on those if you don’t know what I’m talking about).
Donnie: INTJ, 5w6
The Architect, the Investigator, the Problem-Solver, the Observer
Firstly, getting into this analysis means that we have to step away from the stereotype that all INTJs are cold, aloof, and unemotional. INTJs, especially Turbulent ones, do express emotion, and we’ve all seen Donnie’s dramatic ‘theatre kid’ side. I’m not going to ignore that. He manages to be both thanks to the INTJ’s tertiary function Introverted Feeling (Fi). Extroverted Feeling (Fe) really allows one to connect and empathize with others’ emotions. Fi, however, is a more internal experience of feelings, and has trouble connecting with others without having been in their shoes. I happen to think Donnie is in a strong Ni-Fi loop, as well, which would make sense because fighting bad guys every day while trying to save the world after discovering a Mystic City which upbends everything you ever knew is pretty stressful. https://www.psychologyjunkie.com/2017/06/21/intjs-loop-understanding-ni-fi-loop/
And it’s super interesting that he often expresses his emotions by literally saying them. “Evil laugh! Relishing chuckle! Gasp!” (Mind Meld) and, one of my favorites, he literally says “Sad face emoji” in Many Unhappy Returns.
So while we DO see Donnie experience and display his own emotions, we also DON’T see him all that affected by other people’s emotions. He’s still pretty stoic in Mystic Mayhem after the delivery guy gets mutated, cracking a joke about imitation crab. He’s unaffected by Todd’s puppies in Repo Mantis, and the only one immune to Warren Stone’s sob story in Warren & Hypno Sitting in a Tree. Pizza Pit shows it best when he’s unaffected when Mikey’s favorite pizza place collapses until the same thing happens to him. Fi at work vs Fe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for Donnie being a 5w6, keep this core motivation in mind: “[Fives] Want to possess knowledge, to understand the environment, to have everything figured out as a way of defending the self from threats from the environment.” https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/type-5
Donnie at his Worst: Donnie vs. Witch Town gave us this gem of a line: “Because I’m the science guy! If mystic powers can do everything I can do, but better, then why would you guys even need me?” And while people have pointed out his need to be needed, I argue it’s a little more accurate to say he has a need to belong. His role in the group is the Brainiac, the Science Guy, the Smart One, and so his very identity is tied into fulfilling that role. A 5’s core fear is of being useless, helpless, or incapable. Mystic powers rendering his tech redundant, and thereby him useless, would be a pretty big threat to the security of his role in the group (that 6 wing kicking in). And remember a 5’s core motivation: to understand the environment as a defense. And he still doesn’t understand mystic energy. It’s pretty infuriating, so he’s pretty insufferable about it.
Tumblr media
[Note: seeing mystic power as a threat probably didn’t kick in until their fight with Shredder in Many Unhappy Returns. Prior to that, his brothers were still learning how to use their magic weapons, but Donnie already understood his tech well enough to use it effectively (see their first fight against Baron Draxum in the pilot). But against the Shredder… all his tech was useless. Only the hanky, the hanky, was even marginally effective. His brothers’ weapons were now way more capable than anything he had to offer… core 5 fear. And to cope? Learn all you can about your fear/threat. Except he still hasn’t figured it out; we see even in Air Turtle that he calls Draxum for the mystic expertise instead of formulating his own hypothesis].
We’ve seen this insecurity about his place in the group before. In Mind Meld, as his brothers become more like him, his role is challenged. “Hey, you’re trying to get rid of me, that’s what I do to you!” “But, I thought purple was my... my thing.” When he first meets the Purple Dragon he immediately wants to join them because he sees them as tech peers. In Man vs Sewer even though he professes that it’s his day off, he doesn’t react well whenever Leo does ‘his thing’: analyzing the situation and drawing a conclusion. His self-worth seems to be tied to what he has to offer the group, and we hear that even in his song in The Mystic Library about proving himself.
Besides his insecurity, Donnie is practically allergic to blame. (Interestingly enough, he’s more okay with being wrong and others being right sometimes… sure he’ll deflect, but it doesn’t seem to get under his skin the way being at fault does). He will repeatedly deny fault and shift the blame to someone else when something goes wrong. He denies creating AlBearto in Al Be Back, says the incident with the Purple Dragons in The Purple Jacket is entirely April’s fault (she is not amused) and puts the blame for ditching Todd off on his brothers in Todd Scouts. The one time we see him own up his mistakes is in Mind Meld when no one (except Shelldon) is around to see it. “Yup. I beefed up.” This is definitely an area he needs to work on.
Average Donnie: Donnie cares for his brothers, but that doesn’t always get across in the best of ways. Take the episode Donnie’s Gifts, for example. Donnie never actually got a chance to explain how the gifts work, but we can see protective elements in each of them. Raph: please use your head and don’t just blindly rush in! Mikey: ohmygosh that is so dangerous, please be careful and don’t get hurt! Leo: stop poking the bear, Leo, it only makes him angrier! It makes sense that a 5 who has external fears of the world and has their own protective equipment (the Battle Shells) would extend that to his brothers. And Donnie was able to recognize that even though his brothers got the wrong message, he could move past that and call for a group hug. In the Purple Game he is super anxious to make sure his brothers are okay and not mostly hurt. Insane in the Mama Train also reveals the invention of the Panic Button… and who designed that?
Tumblr media
Donnie also seeks a lot of validation. He takes pride in his work, and when his work is appreciated he gives that appreciation back tenfold [such as when he shows off the Turtle Tank to his brothers (Fast and Furriest), or when Splinter says he’s proud of him (Turtle-dega Nights: the Ballad of Rat Man)]. The flip side is that when he’s not getting the validation he needs from others he’ll create it himself, which comes off as arrogant and egocentric. See Smart Lair, when Sheldon 1.0 plays messages of Donnie’s self-worth all night, and is programmed to favor him. Or when he takes full credit for defeating a bad guy: the silverfish in Donnie’s Gifts, and scaring Draxum away with his disco ball in Shadow of Evil. When he gets the recognition for all his hard work from the right people, though, it inspires him to do great things. There is danger in getting validation from the wrong people, however, as we saw in Big Mama’s case in Bug Busters.
Donnie at his Best: Donnie’s at his best (and most relaxed) whenever he’s learning or building something. He gets super excited and happy attending April’s school (The Purple Jacket) or going to the library (The Mystic Library) and wants to attend college someday (The Mutant Menace). The INTJ/5 seeks to absorb information and he’s constantly energized by it.
Tumblr media
He’s also energized when he can put that information to use, such as when building something. Did Albearto need a total tear-down in War and Pizza? No. But Donnie had fun making him ‘dazzle!’ How did Donnie cope being in the woods in Todd Scouts? By building an impressive tree fort. Donnie’s projects actually relax him, because he’s exercising his strength and capabilities.
This also works for his method of attacks and plans: Know Thine Enemy. He studies Warren Stone in Newsworthy when they meet him and is the only one who remembers he regenerates by Warren & Hypno Sitting in a Tree. Donnie and Mikey are able to successfully scam Repo Mantis in One Man’s Junk because they know how he thinks. Donnie thwarts everything the Purple Dragons do and can bring Shelldon home because he knows how they operate  (The Purple Game, Breaking Purple). He can restore his brothers to their rightful minds in Mind Meld because he knows himself.
Also: music. The fact that one of his Battle Shells has a music mode (Mascot Melee), that he remembers things in song form (The Mystic Library, Donnie vs Witch Town), and that he likes to dance (Stuck on You) is so pure and adorable.
Donnie Relationships:
(while Donnie does see his brothers as dum-dums at times, he admits they’re fun and pretty great to have in Mind Meld)
Raph: We really need a Donnie and Raph episode, but even without one there’s some moments we can look at. I already discussed in Raph’s analysis their general similarities. Donnie doesn’t think Raph always has the brightest ideas, but still has soft moments with him such as giving him $20 at the end of Mind Meld, designing the ‘captain’s chair’ of the Turtle Tank to Raph’s lumbar settings, and appreciating Raph’s pirate accent in Snow Day. They are both protective of their brothers, Raph with his fists and Donnie with his tech. It’s interesting that (I believe) they’re the reverse of each other on the Enneagram: Raph is a 6w5, and Donnie a 5w6. So they both understand the risks involved in what they do (mostly: Donnie still ate poison and Raph still goes on ‘smashcapades’). I really want to see a team-up between them.
Tumblr media
Leo: I’m all for the Disaster Twins trope, but to me an episode that epitomizes that isn’t one like Lair Games, where they’re at each other’s throats, but Operation Normal. They’ve apparently done the grandma-getup before. They wind up playing as good cop, bad cop in Fast and Furriest. Sure, one’s high-strung, and one’s laid-back, which can get on each others’ nerves, but there’s also a lot of making up. Brotherly betrayal passes back and forth between them, but never crosses a line. And the numerous times they unconsciously mirror each other can be found with a simple search of the Disaster Twins tag. I’m interested to see more episodes where they work together, even in the background, just because they can get up to wild shenanigans.
Tumblr media
Mikey: Mikey’s probably the turtle Donnie most gets along with. They’ve had several episode team-ups: Repo Mantis, One Man’s Junk, Turtle-dega Nights: the Ballad of Rat Man, Breaking Purple, etc. Donnie may be the team academic, but Mikey has strong emotional intelligence. They get along pretty easily, making plans together (One Man’s Junk) and protecting each other (we see Donnie protect Mikey in Repo Mantis and Bug Busters, but we see Mikey protect Donnie by pulling him out of the way in Smart Lair). Donnie helps Mikey focus on the goal at hand, and Mikey helps Donnie communicate better with others. They’re a good team with a pretty solid foundation.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, Donnie’s an inventive turtle who wants his brothers to be safe but is still wrestling with a lot of insecurities and unhealthy stress levels. I’m excited to see how he grows into real confidence and utilizes his strengths as an integral member of the team.
Sooouu, I started this by wanting to explain why Rise!Leo wouldn't be a good leader right now and I kinda ended up explaining where I would take the story if I wrote it. Anyway I'm a bad writer and English is not my main language so if anybody gets inspired by any of this and decides to write a fan-fiction from it, be my guest (and please link it).
First of let's start with my initial why Leo wouldn't be a good leader. Even though he has a great gut feeling (I think he was wrong only one time in the first season), is relatively good at planing, is able to motivate his brothers with his speeches and his brothers do listen to him sometimes he lacks responsibility and confidence.
Different to Donnie, who is awesome at one specific thing and seeks recognition for it, Leo does not have a specific thing he is good at. Instead he seeks recognition in medals and competitions, he is boasting about his wins because they are the only thing he has going for him and nobody else is praising him for anything, even when he is right or saves somebody. This lead to Leo thinking he is not good enough on his own, even tough he proved otherwise in Bug Busters where he was alone in Big Mama's Hotel and was still able to save his brothers. The first thing he did in Portal Jacked when his brother were lost was to go to Señior Hueso for help(sorry for misspelling his name), in Flushed but Never Forgotten he went to his father for help. Unless he can't help it, he makes sure that he is never alone in a situation that might go south because he lacks the confidence to use the skills he has.
The second point is the fact that he isn't responsible enough to be a leader. He tries to avoid responsibility for his actions every chance he gets. That's why this Leo doesn't want to be leader because he knows that he would be responsible not only for himself but also for his brothers. And that ties in with his lack of confidence. However, in Flushed but Never Forgotten, when his family was in danger he threw away his reason, went after them without a plan and took on full responsibility for the plan while being ready to be the only one to take punishment, sacrificing himself. Meaning he is only ready to take responsibility in dire situations.
On the other hand Raph, being the oldest, is used to care and be responsible for his brothers, but he cares too much. He didn't want to let Mikey go on a mission alone, his plan for better teamwork only worked because his brothers pitied him and when Donnie put their family in danger with his gifts Raph didn't want to hurt Donnie's feelings. This are things a big brother would do, not a leader. As it is right now both Raph and Leo are bad leaders, the former for caring too much and the latter for not wanting to be one.
And this where I explain where I would take the story so Leo can become a leader.
First off, Leo needs to get confidence and more leadership skills. But where would he get that? Of course by being away from his family and meeting new people. But, where?
Currently, we know three places where he can go do that:
human world(with the thing that turns yokai's into human)
The Mystic City
Battle Nexus
The human world is more for Donnie. He already has a group he fights against (Purple Dragons), and is more interested in normal school than his brothers. Aside from that, Donnie has the brains to recreate the thing that could turn them human plus he would greatly benefit from being a human. Donnie's main issues are his constant need for praise and his lack of understanding other people's feelings. For him meeting teachers who praise him and people who have the same intellect as him would do wonders on his mood. Of course he would also need to handle bullies and realize that in the real world team work and communication is really important. Plus you won't be able to choose who you work with, you need to be able to compromise and understand the other persons strengths and weaknesses, that also means putting other people before himself. Donnie also needs to understand that, as much as hates being sociable, everybody can be useful so he needs to make a lot of connection, even with people dumber than him and he is not allowed to insult them. Leo would be there to tell him that, but Donnie wouldn't listen to him until he is in a great pinch. In the end he realizes that Leo was right, but never tells him that and his live improves greatly.
Leo is a sociable person. He would be quick to make new friends and maybe be relatively popular. He wouldn't benefit at all from going to a human school.
The Mystic City is not a challenge for Leo. Aside from Draxum, there aren't really dangers he would need to face there. The last time he was there, he survived without his sword in the bad part of the city. He did have Hueso with him but why would Leo go there alone in the first place? Leo also doesn't have good mystic powers, but do you know who does? Mikey. From what we have seen of Mikey, he is friendly and creative. Mikey would thrive in the Mystic City, find friends, be creative and maybe even learn a thing or two to impress his older brothers. For why he would go there, he would want to prove himself to Raph. He is not just a baby anymore, he can survive without him breathing down Mikey's neck. Leo would be supportive, give Mikey some advice on pirates and bad places, maybe ask Hueso to help Mikey discreetly. It would work out in the end. Leo would be right once again. Raph wouldn't like all of this one bit.
Now to the Battle Nexus. I really thought that this would be the perfect place for Leo. Being a champion is an easy bait for him, but Leo isn't dumb. He wouldn't trust Big Mama and would not easily fall into her trap. Besides the Battle Nexus is one against one, not for teams and why would Big Mama want Leo there in the first place. No. She would want somebody strong, feral, somebody like Raph. Give Raph some cutesy stuff and the trap is laid. So we have a Raph that is totally alone in the Battle Nexus for days while fighting big scary mutants and yokai. He would go crazy, and wouldn't find a way out. Cue, the other three trying to save him with Leo's plan. It fails, miserably. For the first time in Leo's life he was actually wrong at something and it could have cost his brothers lives, it was all his fault. And this time it wasn't a lesson by his father. He needed to plead Raph to calm down while protecting his other two brothers. Raph listens to Leo's pleading and calms down after a while, but in Leo's eyes Raph didn't calm down because of him but out of his own strength, since, after this, Raph learnt how to control his feral side and was able to save all four of them all on his own.
All of Leo's brothers overcame their weaknesses. They became better ninjas. Leaving Leo the only one who hasn't changed. He was still bad with his mystic powers, and the medals he earned were worth nothing.
So how would Leo grow? Simple, just like all the Leos before him. He gets to fight the same enemy as them but in a different way. There was a shot in the episode Shadow of Evil(around the 18 minute mark, can't screen shot it now) where Draxum creates a rift. On one side of it are three turtles and Splinter and on the other side, The Foot and Leo. All of them look surprised at where Draxum is. Now, this could be as to create a balance in the scene or for foreshadowing. I will choose the latter for my story.
As we know Draxum and the Foot soldiers are not on the best terms. There will be betrayal and fights in their future. However Draxum became too powerful for two soldiers to defeat, so they steal the finished armor but they don't wear it. Fast Forward to turtles plus April plus Splinter vs Draxum. Turtle family loses and the only one to escape is Leo. Leo has show to go to drastic measures for his family and is ready to accept help because he is too scared to fight alone. Enter The Foot Brute and Lieutenant with the finished armor. They tell him about how the armor grands wishes and could give Leo the power to save his family. His gut tells him that this is a bad idea but his gut was wrong before, and this was the only way to save his family. He accepts wearing the armor to save his family, together with the Foot clan.
Of course they succeed, but Draxum manages to escape. Now that Leo's wish was granted the armor or, better, Shredder takes over Leo's body. Like I said, Leo is skillful but he doesn't know how to use his skills and has no confidence but imagine Leo's skill and weapon in Shredder's hands. The turtles are lucky that the new villain isn't yet used to his new body, so he decides to escape, together with the Brute and Lieutenant.
And that's it for what we see of Leo for a while. The other episodes would be about a life style without Leo. His family will realize how much Leo has actually done for them and even start missing his jokes. They will live their lives, fail and succeed at stuff, while searching for Leo. Each turtle will get their individual episodes that seems fine, but kinda off in way. This way ROTTMNT can fulfill their promise to not be a Leo centric show because every turtle gets their own arc. They will have their own enemies and issues to fight and overcome, while Leo is just a supporting character and he importance only becomes clear once he is gone.
Now, while the other turtles had a few episodes of their story arc with some interludes for comic relief and episodes of the family members, I want Leo’s story to have one half hour episode episode, like Shadow of evil. So, what is happening with Leo?
While his his body is controlled by Shredder, his mind is trapped in the armor, together with the person who sealed Shredder all those years ago, Karai. You can imagine her anger when she realized a turtle let Shredder lose. They talk. He explains who he is, how he got here etc... Karai explains to him what ’here’ is and who Shredder is. Leo realizes he released armageddon upon the world, and, more importantly, his family. However not all hope is lost. Since Leo has Lou JItsu’s DNA, he, in a way, is related to Karai, meaning he has the power to fight against Shredder and take his body back. Leo tries calling Karai grandma, that did not end well. Anyway, Leo doesn’t know how to fight against Shredder so Karai offers to teach him and since they are in the armor Karai decides to use Leo’s memories to create a copy of Lou Jitsu to boost Leo’s moral.
Leo needed a pep talk, a bunch of stuff happens but Leo still wasn’t able to understand how she could fight against Shredder and Karai got more irritated by the minute. Meanwhile, Shredder realized what Karai was doing, knowing what and who Leo is and how dangerous the situation could get for him, he separates Karai and Leo by trapping Leo in a simulation of what happened in the war when he was sealed according to his and Kara’s memories. Bad move.
Leo was stuck in a never ending loop, where a bunch of good people died and Karai sacrificed herself to stop Shredder. Turns out Karai was quite similar to Lou JItsu since she didn’t care for her families destiny as well and that was the catalyst for her families death by the hands of Shredder. After a while Leo had enough and managed to use Karai’s training to stop the loop, turn back time and fall right into the story. He meets Karai and Usagi the young, soon to be leaders of their repective armies. Right then they were arguing about what they should do. In fact, one of the main reasons why Shredder couldn’t be defeated in the past was because Usagi and Karai would argue too much so they created two armies instead of one. Leo knew if they had put their differences aside or at least compromise lives could have been saved, so he decides to change this simulation
He acted as the middle man for the two and compromised a co-leadership. They didn’t trust him at first but with time they became close friends with Karai teaching Leo about swords and Usagi helping with the mystic powers They created an army and when the time came to choose a leader Leo was chosen with Karai and Usagi being his advisors. They managed to defeat Shredder. Leo got back to the Karai in the armor and they continued their training until Leo’s family came to save him.
The turtle plus April and Splinter used their training from their own arcs to save Leo. They were apologizing to Leo and all the typical stuff. Leo didn’t finish his training with Karai so he still wasn’t able to defeat Shredder for good but he couldn’t let Shredder use his body to kill his family, Karai understood and let him go with a last words being something along the lines of ‘Go my teenage mutant ninja turtles’, giving them their name while he just said ‘bye, grandma’.
He managed to get his body back but the armor and Shredder were still alive. Giving Leo an end goal. After this incident Leo had some PTSD to handle(he fought in war). Things happened and everybody gradually realized that Leo would be good leader and he was offered the position he accepted. I mean it couldn’t be worse than what happened in the simulation,
tmnt but as humans for the au thing? or even if say they didn't have to live in the sewers bc "talking turtles strange". you can pick/interpret this however you want, haha
hm okay so if i were to narrow it down i think i would make it so they still were trained/raised by splinter but none of them were mutated. it has been. some time since i've seen tmnt so i can't quite remember if all the villains were mutants/monsters too or all the backstory details but if say the spill or mutagen had never happened then i wonder how that would change? i also would wonder how different dynamics would be if they weren't forced underground. lmk if you still need more specifics!
That’s great, Anon! Thanks for giving me a little more direction. I’m going to apologize in advance, because I got waaaay preoccupied with certain details, so it’s a lot more worldbuilding than it is putting together a definitive plot, but I’m hoping it still fits the ‘what would this entail?’ bill. Let me know if I missed the mark, though!
And standard disclaimer: even though this is an AU, it’s still heavily based on 2k3′s characters and versions of events. What can I say? It’s My Brand.
I’m not 100% sure what you meant by ‘none of them were mutated’, but I’m choosing to interpret that as something akin to Rise’s yokai situation, where non-humans are born that way. In this case, the “yokai” society and human society would be integrated, but that might be a newer development (within the past 100-300-ish years). TMNT has always used mutants, aliens and other non-humans as allegories for groups that have been discriminated against, and I feel like, even in a more tolerant setting, that would still stand. The humans and non-humans put up with each other, but aren’t on the best terms, and the humans are usually the aggressors. (I also want to make it clear that non-humans are human in all but body/looks-- some have features that provide some benefit or drawback (shells, for example), but there are no supernatural abilities inherently associated with it.)
Bear in mind that I’m writing this as someone who has only left the west coast to visit Ohio of all places, so if I make a Glaring New York Mistake, my bad. I feel like there’s no way the Hamatos live in New York County, so I’m going to tentatively say they’re based in the Bronx. Yes, I know. That was not the intention. Shenanigans can still happen in NYC, but I was breaking my own suspension of disbelief. There’s still some ninja-adjacent training, but most of it is more martial arts-focused-- both for protection in a potentially hostile world, and as a tradition. We still have the chain-of-adopted-parents-slash-teachers going, with Yoshi taking Splinter in, and Splinter raising the boys. An important butterfly-effect here is that if we’re classifying the Utrom as a subsect of non-humans, then a bunch of other stuff didn’t happen, and we could easily argue that Tang Shen would still be alive. She and Yoshi live together, and see their adoptive family somewhat regularly. In this version of events, I’m also thinking the guys know Casey from when they were kids. I could put together an AU variation of The Lesson to mesh with what we’ve already established, but this really isn’t the time.
Personality-wise, I don’t think a lot changes-- the most dramatic would probably be Leo, who, while still the eldest, doesn’t have the responsibility to lead his brothers. I mean, he still tries, but it’s less because he has to and more because of who he is as a person… and also because it drives his brothers up the wall. Splinter has the support of his own adoptive parents in this ‘verse, and I think that would take a lot of pressure of of Leo. Raph, while still frustrated with the state of the world, has learned better coping mechanisms and has more outlets to rely on; he’s easy/quick to rile up, but unless it’s something serious, he can deal with it, and he’d never go to any pipe extremes. I feel like, if anything, Donnie might inherit a bit of Raph’s temper; he’s still very much the ‘I want to help however I can’ humanitarian type, but would be fighting against all sorts of prejudices in order to do so. Still fairly self-conscious and thoroughly adorkable, though. Mikey still has his major vices, but he’s also in a situation where he can network properly, share his art and collaborate with other people, so I think that would become more of a focus for him, and he’d be a little more chill. Between Mike, Don and Raph, they know someone who can help with practically anything they need; Leo’s more reserved, and, while he can and does talk to other people, too much socializing can be a bit outside of his comfort zone.
So, in terms of plot, it feels appropriate to draw primarily from sociopolitical arcs. Thrilling, I know, but since the basis of this AU is ‘what if they lived on the surface’, I would want to focus on what all that entails. That being said, the Mouser intro is a series mainstay, and I don’t want to exclude all fantastic elements, but some things can/should probably be toned down. (I think current events have also proven that, even without the mutation danger, Outbreak would still be a perfectly viable threat.) So, maybe, under the guise of reducing the rat population, Stockman starts using the Mousers not to steal physical assets, but to collect data, which he then uses to anonymously blackmail/extort residents. This may or may not be part of a larger plan-- I wanted to draw inspiration from City at War in particular-- but I don’t have the galaxy brain to figure out what that is, right now. (Stockman’s the kind of recurring villain who, while people know he’s at fault, either can’t be definitively linked to an incident, or is just on the right side of the law. Every time he crops back up, people trust him less and less. Eventually, desperation drives him to work for/with Saki, and then Bishop, so he really should have quit while he was ahead, it’s just not a pun this time around.)
Just because I haven’t mentioned her yet, April’s definitely a part of this, but I’m not entirely sure how/where she fits in. I’m thinking that, instead of threatening her with the Mousers when she discovers what he’s been doing, Stockman might use some of his new connections to try to take her out as she goes home. Cue the classic rescue sequence. It’s kind of an abrupt change of topic, but I also want to keep the ‘Saki’s an Utrom’ reveal, though the impact is somewhat different here; I’m just not sure how to accomplish this without turning him into Sophia the Robot. There are so many things I haven’t even mentioned, and I feel bad that I haven’t really established a proper plot, but this is getting wildly out of hand, and I need to rein myself in.
As a parting point, in addition to City at War, I’d definitely want to incorporate parts of/themes from Still Nobody (wrt the Turks/gang recruitment), Garbageman (the homeless), and, of course, utilize the Purple Dragons.
Group Training
Ever since the guys had their awakenings last June Wednesday night has become elemental night. After daily training with splinter the guys would take a short break and then, they were mine.
Training started with meditation, linking with the spirit of the elements. When linkage had occurred each of the Turtle’s elemental marks would glow in the corresponding color. Yellow for the eastern winds, Green for the northern earth, Blue for the western waters, and Red for the southern flame. Once all four elements had been called a ring of silver cordoned off the sacred circle. Once my own energy, deep Purple for the spirit of the self, was called the silver circle was sealed in gold and practice could begin.
Placed at the four cardinal directions were items dedicated to each specific energy for the guys to practice manipulation on a small scale.
Mikey had feathers of various shapes and sizes, he was tasked with manipulating the wind to move them in specific ways. building his sense of control by reigning in his boundless energy.
Donnie was given a small sand garden with buried crystals. His task was to manipulate the sand to reveal the crystals without manipulating the crystals themselves or scattering the sand. Focusing on releasing energy gradually instead of in extreme bursts built by bottling his energy. This was intended to help him find balance instead of bouncing between extremes.
Leo had a simple bowl of water. To help him learn to relinquish control I tasked him with dipping his hands in the bowl and letting the water flow where it wanted, allowing the element to bind with his energy without him being in direct control. To feel and learn the natural flow.
Raph had his penny candles. Controlling his more volatile emotions to direct the flame to burn the target object hanging above without burning the others surrounding it. or melting his candle into a useless puddle of wax as he had many times already.
As they worked I stood guard, ready to act should anything go wrong. My hold on each colored soul loose yet ready to pull it from the form of its vessel and break the connection to the element should things get out of hand. The disconnect between body and soul acting as an emergency shutoff switch. Luckily I hadn't had to use it yet.
Mikey had been the first to crack the secret of control on the second practice session at that.
“I've got it! I've got it look!”
He had picked up a single feather with a breeze, making it flip end over end. His arms moving as if he were hitting the feather with his nunchaku instead of performing with visualization alone as I had instructed. We all learn control in our own way I suppose. And if you think about it the fluid yet rapid motion of nunchaku isn't much different from the motion of wind.
From there he had been tasked with learning to further manipulate the element, performing different “Tricks" with the feathers before moving to less and less aerodynamic objects.
Soon after Donnie followed suit. Learning to use his voice to manipulate the sand as it would behave if it were placed in a subwoofer. From there he experimented with other methods of sound making, relying on his sense of touch to feel the vibrations he couldn't differentiate by ear. He even used tools such as his bow staff to produce the specific vibrations needed to control his element, keeping the flow of energy steady and constant to manipulate the material. Soon we will be ready to experiment with large stones and begin work with the more organic aspects of the element such as plants.
“After Beethoven lost his hearing he cut the legs off his piano so he could feel the vibrations to differentiate between notes. Though I'm only tone deaf I figured a similar technique would help me pin down the resonant frequencies of the stone.”
Raph was the most recent, just last week he managed to lift the tip of the flame to its target and the smile on his face was just as bright as the fire. All week he had been sparking little flames along his fingers and making them roll and jump across his skin. After splinter got after him and sent him to the hashi for accidentally torching his new altarcloth we finally convinced Raph that keeping a fire extinguisher of some sort around was probably a good idea, And to not practice around flammable objects. Let's just say I've started tying my braid into a bun at the base of my neck, just in case.
The only brother yet to manage his task was Leonardo. Every week he would sit with his bowl and meditate with his opal only to get increasingly frustrated. He was trying to coax the water to flow across his skin and would often times get a small rivulet to run up his arm, only for it to burst and send water across the dojo floor. It was like watching a child try to tame a skittish pet by repeatedly picking it up and wondering why it struggled to get away.
Well I was going to get him properly bonded to his element before I left for school if it killed me.
That’s where we were now, the guys clustered behind leo as he focused on the calm pool.
“Water is an extremely dynamic element, often displaying much of its own will. You have to learn that you do not control the mischievous nature of the creature, you simply learn to utilize it as it is. You can dig a new bank for a river but its course will always shift in its own way.”
His hands dipped into the pool causing slight ripples across the surface and not much else before stilling again. Time passed in silence leo’s eyes never leaving the surface as he kept his breath calm and meditative. After a while though the eldest became impatient, the glow of his element mark growing in intensity as he urged the water to begin to flow up his arms. When it reached his elbows however it burst from his control and splattered over the dojo floor. In his frustration Leo flung the bowl and began pacing around the room muttering under his breath and rubbing at his face with his still damp hands. Drops of rampant fluid drained down the razor edge of his katana to gather unnaturally at the tips, giving me an idea.
“LEONARDO.”
He stopped in his tracks, instinct telling him to pay attention to his teacher.
“I have an alternative plan. Would you entertain me to attempt it?”
The defeated look on his face softened and he nodded, eyes still glued to the spilled water on the floor.
“Come on...hey Donnie?”
“Yeah E?”
“Grab one of the overhead sprinklers from the greenhouse and bring it to the main room for me?”
“Yeah sure thing, Come on Mikey, ill need another set of hands to keep it from getting banged up on the tunnel walls.”
“What do you have up your sleeve this time Myojo?
“Just watch Red, you'll see.”
Once everything was gathered i set my plans in motion.
“Allright Leo, i want you to stand in the pool at the bottom of the entrance slide, ready your katana and close your eyes. Ok Donnie, start up the sprinkler. Now leo i want you to go through your katas, don't pay any attention to the water beyond keeping your connection strong.”
With a steadying sigh Leo started going through the familiar motions, his feet planted securely in the flowing chanel as the pricking of falling water kept his mind scattered from focusing on any one source of his element. After a few minutes the water at his feet inexplicably stilled, retaining a glassy smooth surface despite the movements of the katana wielding kappa or the raining droplets coming from above.
“Well i'll be damned, the son of a bitch actually managed it.”
“Quiet Raph, OK Leo, keep doing that but slow down, focus only on keeping your motions as smooth and calm as possible, as you would if you were doing tai chi.”
As his speed decreased and his breath evened out to the point of being nearly undetectable in his chest the water at his feet began to gather, lifting above the surface proper in a smooth mound. A thick rivulet about as big around and as long as a human arm started to form, flowing up one of his legs to slither over his shell and his left shoulder. The falling droplets helped give the creature form, long spikes supporting flowing fins sprouting from the writhing curling mass of its body as its tail thinned out to a trickle of a point and the squarish face took shape and sprouted its own fins. The creature looked like a mixture of a fancy koi and an eastern dragon, twirling along Leo’s arms and down the length of his blades with its translucent and wavering body.
“What is that?”
“Uisce, the spirit of water. A mischievous trickster of a creature who does not take to rigid orders, the ancient japanese called her mizu.”
Mizu continued to follow the motions of her host for a while before losing form and becoming a strong torrent that followed the tips of Leo’s katana like a set of divining rods.
“Leonardo continue your motion but do not open your eyes until i tell you, when you do you will not stop, you will not hitch or falter in your breath, you will remain calm and finish whatever motion you are currently in before reacting. Do you understand.”
I did not wait to be given an answer signaling for him to do as i had instructed. When his eyes opened he was greeted with the sight of twin torrents, dancing from the ends of his blades like a gymnast’s ribbons.
“Good focus only on suggesting the path, do not force your element. Speed up, let's see if you can hold it.”
His nod was slight, sharp eyes trained on the swirling and crashing water. I picked up an apple from the table and threw it at him so that he would be unable to block it with his blades. The water moved against it's flow to sweep up the fruit, rolling and bobbing it amongst itself.
“Don cut the sprinkler.”
The rain stopped and the water fell back to settle in the pool but the apple still bobbed as if being played with by a cat. Leo looked at me and I gestured to the now partially eaten fruit.
“Try and take it.”
When he pulled the apple away the water burst forward to follow it, taking the form of the water spirit again as it attempted to snatch it from Leo’s hands.
“No, it's mine now. You've had enough.”
It perched on his arm and just sat there looking at him for a moment before spitting a jet of water into his face.
“Ah! Ppphhhhh! You little…”
The creature disappeared again but not before Leo managed to knock the apple away to roll across the floor and rest at Raph’s feet. A spark jumped from his fingers as a wavering canine form fell on the fruit in a spreading bloom of flame before taking a more solid shape to gnaw.
“Lasair, that isn't yours… oh no Leo stop her!”
The water spirit jumped on her brother and a burst of hot steam filled the room, revealing a third competitor for the prize. It had a body like a serpent with three sets of wings and a razor beak.
“great now Goath is after it too, Mikey, Leo, Raph get ahold of them before i do.”
“....”
“....”
“WHAT THE FUCK ARE THOSE THINGS!!”
Really thought they’d be used to this by now, really didn't want to have to do this today but with three fighting chaos beasts threatening to destroy the lair i'll have to.
Raph’s POV
What in the hell? When you think you’ve finally seen it all you see three supposed elemental spirits battling it out for a half eaten apple in the middle of your goddamn living room. I can't even be surprised anymore, i didn't know what to even start doing about this and on top of it Elasia just up and disappeared. She was the one who knew how to deal with all this shit.
Great now there’s another one, this one was so dark it looked like it was just a hole in reality with sharp gold eyes and wide wings. When it landed one three toed foot grabbed the apple and stared the others down. This one was bigger than the others, and not as weird lookin. It was just a shadow shaped like…. Really? A damn raven, she was behind this.
The raven took the apple in its beak and broke it into four chunks, dropping one piece in front of Me, Mikey, and Leo. the creatures followed and started crunching at the bait. Now they were well behaved, figures. The raven took the fourth piece and hopped to the couch, it dropped the piece and nudged it behind and a thin vine wrapped around it and pulled it into its hiding hole. The raven fluffed itself all self satisfied and cawed like it was bitchin at us before it took off for the shadows of the tunnels.
Elasia’s POV
“What are you waiting for get a handle on your spirits! Do i have to do everything?”
“What if it bites me?”
“Mikey, Goath isn't going to bite you. If anyone should have control of their element its you. Now just grab the thunderbird.”
The smokey bird serpent slithered right up his arm and wrapped itself around his neck where it promptly fell asleep.
“Awwww, he’s so fluffy! Who's a good bird.”
“See, now get a hold of the others before they act out again.”
Leo’s jumped back in the water and crawled up on the retaining wall to sit next to her master. Otherwise ignoring him until he came to her, sitting on the wall next to the Koi dragon and reaching out to stroke its fins. Raph’s just looked up at him with the same look of fed up confusion as his master.
“What did you say his name was again?”
“The celts call him lasair, it literally means flame so whatever tongue you want to use.”
“Kaen, here.”
The hellhound looked at the floor in shame as he shifted closer to his master. He looked like a doberman with way too many teeth but he was acting absolutely pathetic as he gazed up longingly at Raph. it didn't take long for the big softie to break.
“Don't give me that face….fine, up! Good boy. Ah don't, gah! God what’s with dogs and lickin my damn face!”
“It won't come out.”
Donnie was tugging on one of the vines trying to dislodge his spirit from its hiding place.
“That’s because she doesn't understand. Crann is shy so you have to be gentle. You know how to handle your element, its part of you.”
Donnie got down on all fours and peered behind the couch, taking a minute to breath and try and get a good look at the creature. He made a low rumbling sound almost too low to hear and held out his hand, waiting for the creature to make the first step. A thin vine edged out of the darkness, soon followed by an eldritch abomination of various plant parts that wound itself around his arm.
“See, she’s a sweetheart.”
Donnie looked like he was expecting her to bite his limb off.
“What is...she.”
“She’s a yateveo, a devil tree.”
It looked at Donnie with what could only be described as it's face, a single purple orchid about the size of a tennis ball. The blossom tilted this way and that before slowly moving to rest on his shoulder, the mass of vines following and wrapping to get a hold on most of his upper body.
“I think she likes me? Hey hey heyheyhey! watch the vines Ki! And give those back I need those….”
Ki dropped Don’s glasses back on his face and started in on some other method of curiously exploring her new master.
“So what are these things.”
“Mizu was laid back over Leo’s lap, every once in a while trying to snap at the long tails of his mask.
“They are the spirits of the elements.”
“But I thought you said we were the elements?”
“No I said you were the Guardians of the elements. You are mortal, the elements have to be around even if you’re between lives so they take the forms of elemental spirit beasts. When you are alive they are bound to your souls by nature and that is why you can control them. There are five, one for each of the elements air, earth, fire, water, and spirit. When you figured out how to control your element you in turn tamed your beast and by building your skills you work to train it.”
Like a Pokemon?!”
“Yes, I never quite thought of it like that but the process could be considered similar.”
Mikey looked down at his elemental and gently ran it's long smoke tail through his fingers.
“I was going to name you Kaze, but now I have to call you zapdos.”
“Do they go away or are they permanent, like pets?”
“They do go away, they can only manifest when you are connected to your element. When you break the connection they are released back into the aether. They won't come every time, usually only when they're called, but Mizu drew them out this time and just had to start a fight.”
The water dragon cowered behind her master’s arm.
“I think you're leaving one little question unanswered babe…”
Raph was looking at me through squinted suspicious eyes, still petting kaen so he obviously wasn't too upset yet.
“I don't know what you're talking about?...”
“Elasia, do you think I'm a fucking idiot. The thing was a black hole in the shape of a raven.”
“I've told you that before.”
He crossed his arms in front of his chest and rolled his toothpick between his teeth.
“Well delight me with a re-telling then.”
Great, I would have to word this just right. I spun my ring around my finger to center my train of thought and spoke to the open air, not really looking at anyone in particular.
“Do you guys remember how I said in our mythology Elasia is the guardian of stars, which in turn are the spirits of our people? Well it's more than mythology, my mother is the angel Lunis and I'm literally the guardian of the firmament, the resting place for souls out of circulation. The Black hole raven as you put it is what I look like when my mortal form is between lives. I'm the spirit and the guardian in one package where you are the Guardians to your individual elemental spirits, connected but not one.”
“Which means, come on I'm sick and tired of not getting the whole damn story. Kick the mystery shit. Explain how that relates to us, and these.”
He gestured a bit too roughly toward Kaen and the poor thing whimpered. Raph immediately started to scratch behind its ears in silent apology to the innocent beast.
“The four earthly elements were born when the earth was formed, first in earth and fire, then water, and finally air. Spirit however came much later when the earth and the heavens met and formed the firmament around the time of the start of intelligent life. When spirit was born into a mortal body and the 200 year cycle of souls began the elements became a problem, a threat to life. Their first forms were those of monstrous beasts who carried the full power of their element within themselves, you would know them as titans. They fought constantly and brought chaos to the earth so the highest power separated them into two forms, mortal guardian and immortal elemental. one to perform the duty of the element and hold the majority of the power and the other to hold the living mind, the connection between the conscious world and the natural order. The element of spirit because of the direct tie to the soul couldn't be separated from her body completely so she was tasked with watching over all intelligent life and maintaining the cycle of souls in her firmament along a cycle congruent to her own life. To do so her form was split into one mortal and one of her mother’s ether connected by the soul of spirit. The mortal form was tasked with guiding and teaching the guardians of the elements. The five are supposed to act as a governing force, being reborn every 200 years to guide the realm of intelligent life, which once included humans, to balance and prosperity with the planet. It is my duty to make sure you can handle your elements or you could lose control and harm someone, or worse expose us all and ruin any chance of restoring the balance.”
Leo spoke first, making the connection I feared my friends would make.
“So is that why you're here? some sense of duty, you feel obligated.”
“I didn't say that Leo.”
“Elasia wouldn't do that shit bro, She’s our friend. Look at all the stuff she's done, she showed us we weren't alone, we don't wear patchwork scraps from the junkyard anymore. We have real jobs, we aren't freeloading off April and Casey. We have people like us. Elasia gave us dignity, showed us we didn't have to grow up loner street rats!”
“Grow up Mikey and stop with the rose colored glasses shit. It's obvious she’s been manipulating us, anything for her precious people. She couldn't even tell us what she was, let alone what she did to us to make us even bigger freaks!”
“Raph…..”
He looked at me like he didn't even know me, like I had stabbed him in the back, and then he wouldn't even look at me. I felt heartbroken, was he that mad at me? Over this?
“Raphael, just listen please. This means nothing, you're still my best friend, my sparring partner, my bonded. I wanted to be all those things long before I knew what you were, screw prophecy, screw mythology.”
At least he stopped, he was listening.
“I love you Raphael Hamato. Me, Jazz the 21 year old girl, not the star loving the flame. I. love. you! Leo, Mikey, Donnie, you brothers are my closest friends!! I give you my word by my soul. You feel that at least right? You know that? Guys?”
Donnie stood up first
“I believe her, you wouldn't do half of what you do if you only felt obligated by your nature. You treat us like family E.”
“Donnie…. I promise I'll always be your family.”
I felt Mikey’s hand grab mine and I looked behind with tears in my eyes at his smiling face.
“Super awesome gaming buddies?”
“The best gaming buddies. Thanks Mikey.”
He gripped my hand in our special handshake, eyes sparking with loyalty and friendship. I was blubbering like a baby but my grin was nearly exploding.
“Ah stop that, you know I love ya like a big sis Jazzycakes.”
Leo was next, his eyes stayed on the floor.
“I apologize for doubting you Elasia, don't cry due to my insensitivity. I should have known better than to think you regarded us as any less than friends.”
“I'm crying because I'm happy Leo, you guys are my best friends. I always wanted friends, don't ever think I don't care, that I think you guys are an obligation.”
Mikey wrapped me up in a hug and Leo went far enough out of his comfort zone to squeeze my hand real quick.
“Mikey you're squishing me….”
“feel the all mighty power of my friendship!!!”
“gah! I'm going to have plastron shaped bruises for an hour! Noooo let go!!!”
Mikey had licked all up my face before dropping me, gasping for air, for Don to catch.
“Gross little ass.”
“You already said you love us can't take it back!!”
“Get ready E, he’s never going to stop, You're family.”
“Great…..Thanks for the lift Don but can I get down now?”
He put me down and went to pet my head. I grabbed his neck and pulled him down to my height and tapped his cheek to my own.
“That's how family shows affection where I'm from, it's like a hug.”
He tapped me back, whispering as he gestured over his shoulder.
“I think there's still someone you have to speak to.”
Raph was staring at the wall across the room, Kaen mirroring him. None of the elementals had left, choosing to stay and comfort their masters.
“I think that's been enough training for today.”
“What do we do about the elementals?”
“Keep them around and get to know them or send them back to the ether to do their jobs, it's up to you. Just keep them out of trouble.”
The guys took the hint to disperse leaving me alone with Raphael, who was still staring at the wall.
“Raph, Big Red please just talk to me. We both know you stewing in this will only make it worse.”
Before I could touch his arm he pulled away, sulking his over to the edge of the pool where he sat heavilly on the cement retaining wall. I wasn't giving up, instead I followed him, jumping up on the wall and balancing on my toes as I made a show of creeping up beside him. When I plopped down beside him he didn't get up so that was a good sign.
“Raphie, please talk to me.”
Nothing, but he didn't pull away when I took his hand. He was still wearing my studded choker necklace on his wrist, I lined up our hands by the matching bands, two of my clawed fingers to each of his. His hands were always so cool, absorbing energy like a sponge. Their smooth calloused texture was addicting to run my fingers over, I always enjoyed playing with his hands.
“There's just one more thing that I need to know. If this is love, why does it scare me so? Well, it must be somethin that only you can see? 'Cause I can feel it, baby, when you look at me.
So tonight I'll ask, the stars above How did I ever win your love? What did I do, what did I say To turn your angel eyes my way?”
We just sat there for a while, him staring off in thought letting me lean against his arm, humming our song with his big hand clutched in both my own.
“Why didn't you just tell me?”
“Because I knew you would react exactly how you are now. You would doubt the fact that you even meant anything to me and think of yourself as just a mission or an obligation. And I was afraid, afraid that when you found out about my lineage that you would turn me away, treat me like a goddess above your station like everyone else. I was afraid you would force yourself to forget how much I care about you under some delusion that you aren't good enough for me.”
He wrapped his arm around me and pulled me up onto his lap, burying his chin against the base of my neck and pressing his face into my wings and hair.
“Nothing since we met you has been normal. I just feel like I'm being swept down a river with no way of seein the rocks on the bottom or where I'm going. I don't even know what to do or think anymore because every damn day it seems like another off the wall thing happens. Last night I was a mutant turtle with fire powers and shit and you were my bird human hybrid girlfriend that could work with souls, I can deal with that easy. Today I discover that my brothers and I are titans of creation reincarnated and you're literally a goddess of death and the afterlife.  Apparently it's our job to lead a whole race of people across the world and we barely manage to keep New york from some major apocalyptic tragedy every other year! I'm scratching the ears of a hellhound made of fire for Christ's sake! It's a little much to take in at 10:00 in the goddamn morning!!!”
I laid back against him, wrapping him in my feathers and tucking my head up under his chin. Maybe a little teasing would help.
“If it makes you feel any better Mr.Titan, the term is demi-angel, reaper works too, I'm far from being a goddess…..And Raph, you don't have to worry about this all on your own, you've got your brothers, and you've got me. Between the five of us what can't we manage?”
He was looking at me again, sizing me up as he thought things over, the edge of his lip jumping with a smile that didn't know if it wanted to form.
“What the hell am I going to do with you?”
“Why don't we just start with the understanding that we aren't hiding things from each other anymore and go for a nice drive to the dog park. I bet Andromeda would love a nice run with her new brother, we can pick her up from April and Casey’s on the way.”
“Sounds damn good to me.”
I jumped up off his lap and shook out my misplaced feathers, beaming at him over my shoulder.
“Well come on you big pain in the ass, we’re wasting moonlight!”
There was that smile, he knocked me out of the way with a playful shove as he tried to get a head start to the garage. But he didn't notice the shadow that flew past his head until he found me waiting for him, laid over the back of his bike like a showgirl with my wings spread and fluffed.
“What took you so long loverboy…”
“Get on your own bike and we’ll see who can ride harder. Oh and Myojo?”
He grabbed my wrist and pulled me roughly against his plastron as he kissed me so roughly I saw supernovas behind my eyes.
“I love you too.”
It took me a few moments to work through what had happened, until I heard his engine roaring away from the shop.
“You cheating motherfucker! Get back here Raphael!!!”
...
BACK AT THE LAIR
“BOYS! WHAT HAPPENED IN HERE? IT LOOKS LIKE A TORNADO CAME THROUGH MY LIVING ROOM!!!!!! IT HAD BETTER BE CLEANED IN FIVE MINUTES OR YOU'LL SPEND THE NIGHT IN THE HASHI!”
“How much do you want to bet Jazzy knew dad would find out about the mess and that's why she and Raph took off.”
“Oh I know that's exactly what happened mikey.”
“Come on guys, just let the two have their fun. Help me fix this table Leo.”
“Still not fair they get to go have fun and we’re stuck cleaning. I was going to the skate park with Mondo and Alley Cat tonight!”
“Just help Mikey!”
COMPLETED. This was my first TMNT long-fanfic series! I started this WAY back in 2012 and finished it summer 2017 [yeah....I went on a 2 year hiatus it was bad]. But, it stuck with me. This story truly was a coping skill itself as it got me through a lot. When I first wrote it, until the last chapter-- it was a ride! If you’re interested, check out chapter 1 below and the link for the full story! Thank you!
"Again!"
Man, what I'd do for a nice large pepperoni pizza right about now… Michelangelo smiled at the thought of the delicious masterpiece. Immediately his mind began ticking at the thought of what he could conjure up. Obviously it'll have a ton of cheese! Maybe I could make- HAWAIAN! Now that's a pizza that'll-!
"Focus, Michelangelo!"
Oh, shell! Shaking his hungry mind, Mikey realized that he was now sitting on his shell, sprawled out on the ground. Looking up, Mikey was shot with his infamous brother's death glare. Oh, Leo. I swear, this dude practices how to rip through my soul in his mirror.
"That's the third time this week I won in less than ten minutes, Michelangelo." Leonardo said, scoffing the dirt off his knuckles. He sighed as he reached his hand out to his youngest brother, "How many times do I have to tell you to keep your mind on one thing? More specifically, your training?"
"Uh," Mikey smiled weakly, accepting his brother's hand as he lifted him up. "Just today or this week? Cause' if it was today I think it's about...the third? And if was the week well I really wasn't thinking of keeping score of-!"
"Oh come on, Raph! That was totally uncalled for!"
"Don't be such a sour puss, Don."
"What now?" Leonardo mumbled to himself as he rubbed his forehead. Lately all of his brothers have been a source of both migraines and ulcers. He shook his head as he stormed over to his brothers. Stopping in his tracks, he turned around and said, "You stay here, Mike."
Karai has been awfully quiet for the past few months, the Purple Dragons haven't made any big moves, and the Foot has yet to steep out on the streets since the fall of the Shredder. The pressure of danger popping up, maybe even stronger, at any point pushed Splinter to train his sons much harder. Of course, Leo took Splinter's intentions to heart. Maybe a little too hard, for Leo's sake!
If he were human, he was sure that his oldest brother would have a hair full of grey hair at this point.
Uh-oh! Leo looks even more ticked off than usual! Maybe if I just sneak past using my Battle Nexus Champion ninja skills… Michelangelo watched Leo turn to face the other side of the dojo where Raphael had Donatello in a headlock, shouting something about winning fair and square. Smiling to himself, he took complete full advantage of his situation. Tip-Toeing his way toward the door of the dojo, Mikey could hear Leo and Raph bickering over Don's cries to be released. This was his big break-!
Making a sprint to his bedroom, Michelangelo can't help but embrace the adrenaline rush that consumed him. Pushing himself to run as fast as he could, he finally reached his bedroom door. Shutting it behind him, he sighed of relief. Ha! Made it out alive! Go Mikey, go Mikey! Go! Go!
A loud knocking echoing outside his door interrupted his exhilaration. Oh, Shell. "Michelangelo!" Leonardo was back again for the kill -this time, his voice full blown with authority. "Your training is over when I say so! Get out here right now and finish!"
"Geez, Leo, calm your katanas." Lowering his head in defeat, Mikey opened his door. Before Mikey could plea to his big brother, Leo slapped his brother across the side of his head. Before Mikey could cry out, he suddenly felt his arm being dragged out of his room and down back to the dojo.
"Aw, come on, Leo!" Mikey cried, (failingly) attempting to get out of his brother's grasp. "I'm sorry! Next time I-!"
"This won't happen again." Leo said sternly, giving him a shove into the dojo. Inside, Raph and Don were already waiting. There, Don is leaning against one side of the wall, and Raph being on the other- both his older brothers pouting in their own corners.
"Alright," Leo began, clearing his throat. "Everyone's behavior has been unacceptable these past few days-."
"We don't need a lecture, Fearless." Raph grunted. "Especially from you." Mikey bit his lip to the growing tension in the small room. Lately, things weren't very peachy between him and his brothers. Hell, even Donnie is acting up!
Leo, after Splinter fell ill earlier in the month, took the role of being head of the house. As if Leo wasn't already- er- besides Master Splinter of course! In Mikey's eyes, this meant Leo's big brother's aura/lecture/talks have increased a good fifty percent. Leo has become even stricter with his brothers than usual. Sure, Leo wasn't fond of Raph going up to the surface with Casey some nights. It wasn't until recently when Leo became more persistent with Raph about his time out, with or without Casey. But it wasn't just Raph getting the wrath.
Don, being in his lab even more often than usual, has focused solely on helping Master Splinter have a speedy recovery and his usual calibrations. Master Splinter insists that he just has a simple cold, nothing for his sons to fret over. Of course, Don being his own perfectionist, convinced himself to run every test on his father as possible- just to be safe. Even Michelangelo knew that once Don was head into a project, there would be nothing to snap his head out of it until he was through. Leo, knowing how hard his brother pushes, attempts to pull his brother out of his lab and train more. More like force him to train.
"Believe it or not, I'm going to agree with Raph on this one." Don sighed. "We did everything you asked Leo, it's only morning practice. There's no need to push so hard-."
"No need?" Leo hissed, clenching his hand to his katana.
Oh, shell. Well, yup, aaaand Leo has officially cracked.
Mikey took a step back as Leo walked up to Don. Getting face to face with his younger brother, Leo said, "Karai can be out there planning a way to get back at us!"
Mikey could tell that his oldest brother was trying to hide any emotion in his voice. In a way, he always felt bad for Leo. It was very, very, rare that he'd see Leo calm down and just hang out with them. He tried to recall the last time he just joked and played with his brother. Were we 10? 12?
Leonardo looked over to the rest of his brothers as he continued on. "You think that you'll be able to fight off an entire Foot elite? You think you're strong enough to face Karai?"
"We know you aren't."
Wait; scratch that, now Leo has cracked. Oh, come on, Raph! Michelangelo slapped his forehead as Don cursed under his breath. Well, this is it. It was great knowing my brothers.
Silence fell onto the room.
Donatello stood helplessly in front of Leonardo. Leonardo's head snapped over to Raphael, still clutching his katanas tightly. Donatello placed his hand on Leo's shoulder, gripping it firmly to keep him in his place.
If Raph and Leo don't kill each other now, than the tension in this room will! I totally got to stop it-! Mikey stepped in between Raph and Leo as he put his arms outward toward each of them. Forcing his trademark grin, he coughed a chuckle, "Okay, dudes, look, we're all tired, pretty ticked off and maaaybe even hungry? Let's part on friendly terms, eat some pizza, say our sorries and call it a day!"
Silence fell again.
Mikey darted his eyes to each of his brothers, still attempting to keep a smile. Raph, on his right, was standing firm with his arm crossed. His eyes locked onto Leo's, irritation oozing from his glare. Looking to his left, Leo had the same glance to Raph. Don stood on Leo's right, still holding Leo's shoulder for dear life. Don, being the only one who was looking at Mikey, simply shook his head. Mikey bit his lip as he desperately looked to his brother. Come on, Don! Give me a hand here!
Knowing Don, being the most peaceful one out of them, he probably won't step in until Raph and Leo pull each other's heads off. Leaving Mikey going solo.
Forcing a more cheerful smile, Mikey clapped his hands together. "Okay, then! I'll start then! Leo, bro, I'm sorry I ran off to my room to hide from your demon like wrath and for probably pissing you off even more- BUT, anyway, I am sorry! Now, Raph, apologize for being mean to Leo."
"I ain't apologizin' for shit."
"GOOD APOLOGY, Raphie-!" Mikey smiled, attempting to cut Raph off. "I can almost feel the emotion of sympathy flowing in the wind! Now, Don, you apologize for talking back to Leo!"
Don, rolling his eyes, knew to play along with Mikey's game- or else he won't stop the charade. His voice monotone, he squeezed Leo's shoulder. "I'm sorry for talking back to you, Leo."
"There ya go!" Mikey smiled. His plan was working! Er, well, Raph is too proud for that anyway. I think I even see Leo lighting up a little! Smiling to Leo, he pointed to his oldest brother. "Now, Leo, it's your turn! Apologize for being so strict and fatherly and dominating over us!"
Raphael chuckled as Donatello slapped his forehead. Oops. That one was my bad.
"You're absolutely right, Michelangelo." Leo smirked, deep blue eyes beginning to grow even more intense. He forced a laugh as he continued sarcastically, "Wow! I'm sorry that I'm only just looking out for each of you. Oh, wait! I am so sorry for making you guys train harder so that when you go out in a fight, you won't come back as many times as you've all been hurt. But, I am mostly sorry for being so fatherly. I didn't think caring about my brothers' safety and protection could be so awful."
"You're so full of yourself, Fearless." Raph hissed, stepping closer to his older brother. "You think just cause' Master Splinter has a tiny cold you think you could play master! Well guess what? Yer no master-!"
Brushing Don off his shoulder, Leo stepped closer to Raph. His voice raises higher, the emotion no longer hiding. "Coming from the guy who goes out every night just to feel more tougher and stronger! How does that protect this family?"
"Stop!" Mikey cried, stepping in between his brothers. "C-Come on, guys! I know how much you guys love proving each other wrong but-!"
"Stay out of this, Mike." Raphael warned, shoving his brother to the side.
"Guys, come on." Donatello took a try at stopping his older brothers. "At this rate you two are going to wake Sensei. And he needs all the rest he can."
Ooooh the guilt card! Nicely done, Donnie! Leonardo hesitantly backed away from Raphael and nodded. "Fine. We're done for now."
"Finally!" Grabbing Raphael's arm, Mikey attempted to tug his arm toward the door. "How about we play some Resident Evil, Raph? We always make a good team-!"
"Yer leave me to die and take all the ammo," Raphael shook out of his little brother's grip, "no way in hell am I playin'."
"Aw, come on!" Mikey pleaded, watching his brother stroll to his room. And once he's in there he ain't coming out until dinner...Maybe Don will play with me!
Adrenaline rushed through him as he skipped his way to Don, who was cleaning up the dojo. "Donnie!" Mikey tackled his brother, putting his arm around Don's shoulder. "How about we play? I'll let you be the cool dude and I'll be the chick!"
Half-laughing, Don removed his brother's arm off his shoulder. "Can't, Mikey. I got to check in on Splinter and call April to pick up more medicine." Making his way out of the dojo, he looked back to his youngest brother and smiled slightly. "Maybe you could check in on Leo. You do owe him an apology, you were pretty harsh on him."
"ME?!" Mikey squeaked, raising his hands in the air. Before he could defend himself, Donatello was already gone. Sighing in defeat, Mikey slouched his back and dragged his feet back in the hallway.
Plopping himself on the floor, he leaned his shell against the wall. Pulling his knees up to his chest, he rested his head on his knees. This wasn't the first time he felt that all his brothers were completely against him. Shell, all I wanted to do was help. That's what I…always wanted to do. Why can't his brothers see past that?
I-I know I like to play jokes and act like an idiot sometimes…but don't they see that I'm not an idiot? O-Or do they really see me as just…that. No. Mikey shook off his deep thoughts and pulled himself back up on his feet. There was no way he would let his family see him this way. They'll just think he's whining again for attention.
B-But, I don't! I just…want to make things right for once.
And he knew jus where to start!
Mike quickly paced himself over to Leo's room. His door was completely shut. Biting his lip, Mikey hesitated knocking. Leo usually never keeps his door totally closed, that is, unless he wants privacy. But Donnie's right…
Mikey did his traditional knocking; knocking twice, then again three times. "Leo? Its me…can we talk for a second or are you sleeping or meditating or-."
Leonardo slowly opened the door halfway, leaning himself against the door frame. His arms crossed, he cleared his throat. His eyes finally reaching his little brother's, Mikey was taken back by the look his oldest had. He was exhausted- whether it was mentally or physically (shell, or even both) he couldn't tell.
"H-Huh?" Mikey snapped out of his dazed thoughts and looked back up at Leo. "OH- uh- look, Leo, I'm…sorry about picking on you before. I totally get how freaked out you are over this-."
"As should you." Leo cut off, his voice becoming deeper with authority. "Remember what I told you at the Battle Nexus? If one of us goes down, we all go down. You need to pick up your slack or…" His voice faded as he looked to the ground, then immediately back up. "…or we will go down too."
"What are you sayin', bro?"
"I'm saying…that if you don't stop fooling around and focus on training with me and the others, we can't trust you in a fight."
"Can't trust me?!" Michelangelo echoed, hurt piercing his voice. His brothers, brothers, believed that he'd be nothing but… "You guys think I'm just some kind of…liability to you guys…?"
"I didn't say you were one, Mikey." Leo placed his hand on his youngest shoulder. His voice becoming more comforting. "I'm saying, if you keep slacking off and not working with all of us…then yeah, you're putting us in danger too. And as the leader, I'm not putting Raph and Don in danger too."
What the shell? L-Leo really sees me as that much of a weakness that I put Raph and Donnie in trouble..?
"L-Leo, come on." Mike pleaded, starting to back away from his brother's reach. "I-I mean I joke around with you guys but, when we train I do my part and get it done! Okay, maybe sometimes I get distracted easily a-and I tick you guys off, but I work!"
"Mike!" Leo exclaimed. "Just…get your act straight. I'm not going to tell you again." And with that, Leonardo shut his door. Leaving his youngest drowning in his own brother's words…
./././././././././.
Shutting his eyes tight, he could have swore he heard his brother choke a sob. Sure, his brother was the most sensitive out of them all. And yeah, he took any criticism to heart at times, even while covering it with a joke. But he did it for the best…right?
Leonardo collapsed on his bedside, staring up at his ceiling. When did things get so crazy? Sensei…I-I don't think I can handle all of this not-.
"I trust you, my son. You know your brothers well. You will take care of them. Have faith, Leonardo. Just as I have faith in you."
His heart clenched as his father's words swam around his already filled mind. He knew Raphael was already completely fed up with him, Donatello was too stressed over Splinter's condition, and Mikey…is just in his own world.
At least there, Leonardo knew Mikey didn't have to have the burden of worrying over anything. He can just be himself, laughing, goofing off, cracking jokes, and just acting like things were just the same as they were.
He needs to realize the truth…
Even if it hurts him.
