When I was an army I had to really try to like BTS' English music or 2022 releases. Even though I became a solo I still liked the members so I had to try to not trash layover or friends as boring when I first heard them and I had to give JK's album a chance even though I despised 7 and 3D because I didn't want to write him off.

But when I listen to Jimin, or I listen to old BTS, or even when I listen to rapline solo music, I'm not thinking of doing it to give them a chance in order to be 'fair' or because I'm thinking about them personally or because I'm thinking about fandom. I listen to them because I enjoy their music. I consider Face to be amazing ofc but listening to my regular playlists or listening to hots and cc today just reminds me how much tkk are skidding by on popularity and payola because their songs are so shallow. I also don't care how much ARMYs try to convince me that the english songs are fun, they're really mediocre I'm sorry.

You can convince yourself your bias is the best of the best but then you listen to some actual good music and realise that forcing yourself to like music because it's by someone you like is dumb

I honestly never minded the english trilogy because I knew what they were going for and didn’t expect anything more out of those songs. Dynamite I feel is genuinely fantastic. A true hit. Butter and PTD less so but I never thought they were bad. The one song that I was just 👎🏾 about is YTC. It was super underwhelming. But I can understand your view. Bias aside, the only English song that was really compelling to me was LC ENG.

I can’t even say that rapline lack exposure because they all get great promo. It’s just that superficiality is working against them as well as genre. Which is unfortunate because rl are all talented and objectively have the better music.

I think it's because in BTS even if it was mostly rapline writing the lyrics it didn't feel like such big disconnect because they're bts members. Maybe a specific bts member didn't write the song but a bts member still wrote the song and people have different approaches to/expectations of different musicians based off of the type of artist they show themselves to be. No one ever fucking cares if Rih ain't credited on a song because that's not her thing. If the blonde girl released an entire album of non self written songs people it would be shocking because being a writer is tied into her identity as an artist. I mean some people were writing think pieces about the English trilogy and I think they was way more dramatic considering they're not completely uncredited the songs were released over several years and there was an entire album they created in the midst. Part of its lowkey cus armys were fighting for bts pen game for years and it's making us look bad now which isn't jk's (or tae's) problem but also you can't go around calling people talentless frauds who can't pick up a pen for years and not feel the slightest disappointment at your faves not participating in something they said they working on for years without extreme disconnect. People used it to talk shit but it was also a point of pride outside of other people.

I think you yourself have explained that this is simply a them problem and not a bangtan problem. And at the end of the day, jungkook can write and produce music, (some of the best music on the bangtan roster have come from him) so any anti saying he's incapable of writing music is just looking for a lazy drag.

At the end of the day, self produced albums may have been closely linked to bts as a group but all the members that make up bts, never committed to this sentiment. Jungkook especially puts his singing as the most inherent part of his artistry, so if he chooses to focus on that and his choreography and let's go of the writing/producing so he could release golden, then honestly what's so wrong about it? I would have understood the "immense disappointment "if it was Namjoon who was releasing an album in this format since his lyrics have always been central to the music he's released. But for someone like Jungkook whose time and time again talked about how conveying the right emotions in his singing and putting a powerful performance as being his greatest priorities as an artist, this format tracks for him completely. Interpretation of lyrics into music is also an art form in itself and shouldnt be looked down upon. Maybe in the future he will endeavor to more self production too, but I don't think his current desicions right now are taking away from his, or bangtans legacy for that matter. It's only breaking him and bangtan further into the industry and I'm not going to wish against it just because antis on the internet have something new to "drag them" about.

born singer - fuck the significance this song has to armys and bts and j cole allowing them to release this song fuck. FCUK. namgi's verses still make me cry. this really is the thesis. the central theme for the tannie's careers and their message. i lokey wish they recorded yoongi's verse to reflect the amount of years that has passed but opening the anthology w this song is so smart of them.....creative team fantastic work.

jump demo - wow it sounds both incredibly similar and also completely different i was so shocked when i first heard it!!! im glad they made that violin arpeggio clearer but i havent had a chance to look up the lyrics and what they changed

young love - the piano hook is so pretty and the bar chimes and the bg vocals are so atmospheric. while this song is lovely (hehehe) and it absolutely has that classic bts genre twist i think its getting lost in all of the greats in this album. which really speaks more to how bts stuffed this album w the creme de la creme top state of the art quality music than this song in particular tbh.

epiphany jin demo - im sure all of you are aware how hard and how long ive wanted this in my hands and jin just never disappoints. idk man jin knows his voice and his strengths very well and i see why this was in the running until the last minute revision. fuck its so good. im sad the leak was real bc i can't experience for the first time again but at the same time hearing the prechorus in context is so magical. his voice is what 1000 thread silk bedsheets feel like to someone who has slept in a pile of hay all their lives feel like.

i love that you can really hear how far into development these songs were before putting them into this album. some, re: heungtan sonyeondan and inu, were put together earlier in development and thus are more rough sketches and minimal 'meat', only there to provide the general idea of what they want. sthing to show bang pd or sthing to wake up the next morning to polish. esp when you compare them to epiphany and spring day, practically full songs w professional sounding instrumentals already. while they are much more polished, you can hear all of the thought sope put into seesaw and dna even you can hear some are clearly midi w their standard settings before recorded w better software/more tinkering or a live band. i think it also speaks to the type of writers they are. joon seems like the type to want things down asap before he goes back to fix things, while yoongi is the type to tinker w sthing making sure its basically perfect before showing it off to the world, and hobi has the minutiae detail work to add things while he goes.

i love this album w all my heart and i love the tannies for showing us their souls their hearts their talents w us 💖

what's the first bts song you heard?

I think honestly it was Mic Drop back when it came out, but I wasn’t particularly interested at the time, so I just heard it and moved on with my life.

what's the first bts music video you watched?

Again, it was Mic Drop. I remember seeing somewhere how it was a big deal that a K-pop act was collaborating with an American artist (Steve Aoki). So I was like, well I don’t really care about either, but let me see what everyone’s talking about. That was my first proper introduction to BTS aside from all the comments and gifs I was seeing everywhere.

who/what made you start stanning bts?

No one in particular. It just kind of happened last year when my sister and I randomly wanted to show our mum what K-pop is. Neither of us was a K-pop fan, so the only two groups we were aware of were BTS and Blackpink. My sister decided to check out BTS. And the rest is history.

who was your first bias and is now your current bias?

My sister and I decided to choose our biases in the very first performance we watched, even though we knew nothing about the boys and could hardly even tell them apart :D So at the time, I chose Jimin because he had silver hair and I really liked that, but I think Jungkook was more my style. But now that I know more about the boys, I 100% agree with my first instinct to bias Jimin.

you can only listen to one album for the rest of your life. which?

Uhhh, that’s tough. Maybe Map of the Soul: 7? Or Wings? Or maybe I can just choose Proof, so I have everything in one place :P

what's your favourite collab?

Collabs with Steve Aoki always serve. Mic Drop remix, The Truth Untold, what’s there not to like?

what's your favourite bts japanese song?

Tough choice, but I think Don’t Leave Me. That song’s intensity and emotion is on another level, especially when you know what the boys have been going through at that time.

Cypher 3: Killer! I heard it for the first time when the rapline performed it at Yet to Come in Busan and that sealed the deal for me. The energy is off the charts!

Hahahah, actually if I remember right Leos and Libras are pretty compatible. I normally tend to really love Libras too.

I’m INTP, my bias is supposedly ESTP (honestly a huge surprise), so I don’t think we’re super compatible. BUT my sister is ESTP, and we’re very different but get along great.

I don’t have much; I only bought Jungkook’s photofolio and JK TinyTan keychain for my sister. Weverse Shop shipping to Europe is super expensive, and I usually end up paying double the price for that alone. So, it’s easier to buy unofficial merch.

Idk we’re all human it’s okay to feel sympathetic towards someone even if you don’t actively stan them. I despise his akgaes but I do feel sorry for HS himself. It’s not like his music is bad or anything, I don’t think that as an artist he deserves the underwhelming response fandom is giving him right now. It’s not *his* fault that this fandom is in shambles and isn’t willing to support anything payolaless anymore.

I agree. This is just another countless example of armys hyping up rapline/hyungline at the expense of maknae line (more specifically jimin) but never really showing up for them commercially or stream wise. And armys have gotten lazy. They love any record they can flaunt but they barely put any real work and have gotten too content with barely having to do anything. You’d think with them knowing how many people are inactive or have just plain left, this would be the time they’d work the hardest to pick up the slack. But that drive armys had pre english trilogy isn’t there anymore.

Memories 2015 Disc 1 - 2

So I asked awhile ago when I said I was going back to watch every memories DVD they have released so far, if you would be interested in commentary from me as I did so. There were a lot of people who said yes, so here we are! I have officially watched BTS Memories of 2015. Here are my thoughts as I went. There were only 4 DVDs in this one. Reminder that these aren't going to be smoothly written out thoughts. You get these like I'm live reacting, texting my bestie or live tweeting. Lol it'll be in like bullet point format sort of, just... a commentary post as I go. Lol Hope you enjoy anyway! Let's go!

Disc 1:

BTS Live Trilogy Episode 1, BTS Begins Concert and Encore:

This was a concert only performed twice to promote their school trilogy albums. They performed it 150328 and 150329 in Korea. The opening VCR was so much softer this time with baby BTS pics of them from Middle and Highschool. But they also definitely kept up the rebellious students/mean teacher theme from 2014 too.

Jump with a backpack dance break was amazing. Jimin and Jhope dance battle is insane and I love how it's from 2015 and still resurfaces on twt/YouTube all the time. Tae hyping Jimin and saying he practiced the choreo with him and Jin hyping Jhope and trying out his moves was all so cute. We are Bulletproof pt 1 is such an amazing song. I wish we got more from it release wise on an album somewhere or even just put it on Spotify. Please! Lol love how they transitioned that straight into pt 2 though too. And the fact that they performed No More Dream and NO in legit bulletproof vests?! Those HAD to be heavy.

Tae's voice during tomorrow, please! 😭 Jimin's highnotes at the end of Do You Think This Makes Sense makes me wanna cry everytime. Goodness. And the HOLD that Yoongi's verse in Converse High has on me is insane. I do love that song. Lol and this was their premiere of that song for the first time! Hobi is bias wrecking me SO HARD through this entire concert. My goodness. Rapline makes me question my entire bias line anytime they perform a rapline unit song on stage, especially during Cypher when Joon yells "Bitch, I'm a monster" He is SO COOL. Jin causally ruffling and fluffing his hair as he sings like an angel a d struts down the stage like he isn't killing us all in the best way. Jungkooks vocals during Attack on Bangtan 😭😭😭

Excuse me, wtf happened that I missed and why did Jimin randomly come up to and push JK while laughing after they were all wildly hip thrusting during War Of Hormone?! Lol and Tae with the ass slaps, why was that part of their choreo? I swear 🤣

Boyz with Fun will always be a favorite of mine. And the guys all hyping up producer Suga for writing the song and for writing Let Me Know from their last album. Just out here reminding me once again why Yoongi is my bias. Lol imagine hobi singling you out in the crowd during a concert to sing half his verse of Miss Right to. Did anyone check on her after this concert? Did she survive?!

Namjoon first telling Jimin he is the real baby of their group while helping him get his jacket on for Boy in Luv. lol Then during ending speeches when Jimin is saying he isn't as good at giving cool speeches like Rapmon hyung, Joon interupts and goes "it's okay, you have a great body." Lmfao Hobi getting all emotional and saying all their families were in the crowd that night too. All their ending speeches always make me wanna cry and give them hugs every single time. And they are ending the concert with Born Singer, legit they are out to make everyone sob with that one. Jungkook basically sings almost the entire time too with harmonies and verses and ad libs, he sounds so heavenly even at the end of a 2.5 hour concert.

BTS Begins Concert Making Film:

They were filming when it was freezing cold out. Staff waiting to give them jackets whenever they were off camera. Jin being shy about acting too cool for school. Lol and Jimin struggling with sitting cool on the seesaw while JK just gleefully spins like a crazy person on the spinning roundabout ride. Jimin joining him and getting VERY dizzy. JK pretending to try and make a fire to warm them up while Jimin is just giggling his butt off watching him in the back.

The way they all fanboyed over the actor who is playing the teacher and telling him about seeing him in a movie before this. Lol

Aww Jhope giving Jimin heart hair to express their love for ARMY and JK saying it was like his hairstyle from NO. And they were all so cold, you could tell, all wearing Hot Packs under their clothes, Jin wearing 12 of them! Lol directors tell them to hang around together. BTS randomly starts dancing to no music and acting goofy. Editors: "doing a weird group dance." Except there is Jungkook, standing slightly off to the side watching them all and looking slightly like "what in the world are they doing?"

Tae was dancing so hard he accidentally ripped his pants!! Lmfao and Jimin scolding Suga for filming his butt while he was trying to cover it and walk away. 🤣🤣 Poor Tae.

The Taekook clip of Tae kicking the ball at JK, hitting him and sending his phone flying only for JK to chase after him out the door, only to have them end up cuddling for a nap later is from this video! I love this clip and loved seeing it in full! Love how it started out with Vhope Goofing off and kicking it around with each other first too. And the way that Jihope are playing tag on rolling chairs during this chaos too, not much practicing at the start of this dance practice. Lol love seeing them have fun. Jhope and Jimin also talking about how they just became roommates and Jimin is not sure it was a good idea. Only for them to become "eternal roommates" 🥺🥺

The Born Singer practice is legit so cute and funny. The way they all shuffled their feet around to spin in a circle since the dance floor doesn't spin like the stage does. Lol JK rapping Namjoons verse with him and how endeared everyone was by it, especially Jimin. Everyone holding hands to spin in a circle again and Vmin linking their fingers together. 🥺 and performing Born Singer seemed to make all the members emotional and want to cry along with us. JK saying it's hard not to cry when everyone else is and Jimin going "aww you are still a baby" and JK going "No, i didn't cry though!" Sooo cute.

While getting ready for Day 2, Jimin says "our fans might think I cried during Born Singer yesterday, but I really didn't." Editors: "I think you did..." they never let them breathe 😂 Zooming in on JK crying is not fair though. Not at all 😭 someone hug him!

They work SO hard. So unbelievably hard. They love ARMY so much and each other and what they do. Suga said he stayed up until 5am practicing and Namjoon said he said up super late working on his mixtape. They were all so nervous everytime before getting on stage, only to always kill it!

Discs 1 and 2 complete! I'll make a part 2 (and maybe part 3) for the other 2 discs to prevent this post from being too long! But Im loving this so far! They are so cute and I'm loving seeing the way they have already grown and some dynamics and started shifting around a tiny bit just from 2014 memories. Most of this is more official content and less of them just playing around together so far, but it is truly amazing to get to see it all! Disc 3 is more concert performances and I'm excited!! Thanks for letting me share!

hi!! please feel free to not reply because i just wanted to let you know how glad i am that you spoke about that weverse article because i saw people use it basically just to criticize people who were dissatisfied with ptd

ptd was bad production and im glad the members’ names arent on it. how did we even go from music tailored to the members to shoehorning rapline into 10 seconds each.

but then again whenever i come across the “this doesnt sound like bangtan” point i feel like, bangtan has never had a consistent sound besides songs which work very well with the members themselves? the school trilogy hyyh wings ly mots and now this trilogy most of them sound nothing like eachother and each era there was always a good chunk of the fandom saying wow sellouts their sound has changed. feels like this time it’s just that hybe isnt even choosing music that truly fits them so they can reach wider audiences

and considering that their next comeback is probably going to be the collab they keep hinting at im not expecting a massive shift from the trajectory they are on. like come on hybe do your biggest group justice

hi! yea it is weird the way some people dont think critically about what they read in the weverse articles as if hybe doesnt make them say exactly what they want it to say and use it to try to further manipulate bts’ fanbase, to try to motivate them to stream or whatever it is they want. and i agree with you that bts music has always been changing and no two albums sound the same, but still theres something about all their work up until mots persona that just Feels like them. i dunno how to describe it its just like their recent stuff is so generic it could be anyones, but their older stuff is Theirs u kno. but yea for some reason they dont care about that anymore n its sad. n omg i completely forgot about the coldplay collab ughh not looking forward to that personally,, one reason being i think i already know what the line distribution will look like.. among other things… its like i get theyre clearly just in it for the money at this point, because even tho theyve gotten so big, under capitalism if ur not constantly growing ur failing,, but i truly honestly believe that they would be just as, if not more successful than they are now if they just let the boys do what they genuinely wanted to do. its like they havent stopped to think that maybe the western industry that they so desperately want the attention of would be a little more welcoming to them if they felt all that drive and passion and sincerity from just a few years back….
