Profession: Traveling spearfisher, trinket trader (unemployed)

P H Y S I C A L A S P E C T S

Hair: Well contained in a fancy bun, with all the ends just short enough. She didn't like it getting in her face during quick maneuvers undersea. On land, it looks a litle rough, accustomed to the water more. Eyes: Blue, with a variable brightness depending on if she wants them to glow bright or not. Bioluminescence yeyaeyayeyae Skin: Abnormally dark, absorbs light when underwater, also has bioluminescent properties to shimmer and glow, confusing prey. On land, the scales/skin have a hard time with how much light there is, she gets burned easily. To combat this, she has a parasol she takes everywhere! Tattoos/scars: No tattoos, maybe a few bite scars from battling fish.

F A M I L Y

Parents: The two most important people in her life - taught her how to hunt and gather, how to live in the depths she was born in. Siblings: She's probably got siblings, but she hasn't seen them in a while. Grandparents: Unknown. In-laws and Other: None. Pets: A large manta ray, a 'pet' of sorts, more akin to a summon. Helps her travel longer distances underwater by attaching to her back, also providing some protection from the sun.

Abilities: Expert underwater hunter, using a variety of skills to conceal and confuse - kicking up sand, creating little lights to distract as she zips through the seas. Also able to eat most things with fairly low risk. Living in the deep sea's tough. Hobbies: Exploring and collecting trinkets! She enjoys searching sunken ships for harpoons, gold pieces, bits of armor, anything shiny, along with flowers.

Colors: ALL OF THEM!!!! Sure, bioluminescent blues, purples, greens are pretty, but she's more interested in the colors she's never seen before. Smells: Fish and fishblood. She's also taken a liking to a few underwater plants, keeps some close by both to help mask her scent, and just to smell for herself. (I had to look up if fish can smell) Textures: She needs things to be super smooth, or else it'll irritate her skin. ESPECIALLY beds - if the thing she's trying to sleep on isn't super silky, she'll just go sleep in the water, tying her harpoon to herself and sticking it in the sand so she doesn't drift far. Drinks: Originally it was all water water water. Once she surfaced, she quickly realized the power of fruit juice.

Smokes: Holly's not come across smoking yet. Drinks: She very recently had alcohol in a fruity cocktail, enjoyed it but felt strange afterwards. She got super dizzy, fell over multiple times. Drugs: She's been stung by a pufferfish once… Not good. Mount Issuance: If you consider the manta ray summon an issued mount, sure, but it can only be underwater. Been Arrested: What's that?

Ashelia Riot glances at the woman to her right. There’s something familiar about her, she thinks—but she doesn’t have time to ponder it now.

Kharaa jumps down from her yol. “Ai!”

Ai gasps for breath. Her leg gave out shortly after scaling the cliff. Someone is calling her. She tries to remember who it is.

“Targets at the Peaks, Radiata, X 28, Y 28.” The magitek bit is insistent.

Ai Deahli: “Guh….a-approaching…”

Vision One gets a little closer. Her brow furrows from behind her visor. “Ai.”

Ai staggers.

Ashelia Riot doesn’t know what’s happening, but readies her gun all the same.

Ai Deahli: “Miss…One? Grand St-stssss—”

Ai Deahli: “T-targets confirmed. Readying a-attack pro-protocol.”

Vision One glances towards Ashelia and back. “Ai, we’re here to take you home. Back to the Sandsea…Please don’t do this.”

Ai Deahli: “F-for the glory of—the glory of the emp—Ahhh!!”

Ai rushes forward, slashing wildly. She readies Terminus Est, but it fires in the wrong direction.

Vision One: “Gh!” Kharaa jumps back, nicked by the sudden outburst. “Stop!”

Ai Deahli: “Activation long-ranged tur—turrets.”

Ashelia Riot fires.

Ai drops to her knee, winded. Ashelia Riot: “That’s enough.”

Ai Deahli: “Grand Steward…Th-rhank you for the r-room…Someday I’ll…”

Ai staggers to her feet.

Vision One: “You don’t have to do this, Ai…”

Ai Deahli: “Do yyyou have the lissst—A—Arae’sae Evvv----forgot to return a—to the library—”

Ai continues to wildly attack while uttering nonsense.

Ai Deahli: “Akeet made buuz the oth—other—”

Vision One rushes in, using a non-lethal Armor Crush to knock her down. Ashelia Riot shoots the magitek bit down.

Ai Deahli: “No…Finish the mission…For the glory of the—of—”

Ashelia Riot: “Enough. Two dead in Ul’dah? An attack on Rhalgr’s Reach? What did you hope to gain?”

Ai Deahli: “Must report to—protocols engaged—I must!” She attempts another attack, but misses and falls to her knees.

Vision One kneels at Ai’s side. “She’s a clone. Part of an imperial project. One that entered a terminal stage.”

Ashelia Riot’s blood goes cold. “A clone?”

Ai Deahli: “Argh! I’m so—sorry—Pl—go away..”

Ai Deahli: “Sssorry sorry sorryyyy…”

Vision One is undaunted, and she shakes her head. “I can’t do that. You’re not an imperial tool. You’re a Riskbreaker, and you need to return home.”

Ashelia Riot: “…Terminal. What does that mean.”

Ai Deahli: “H-home…? All personnel slated for elimination…going h-home…”

Vision One: “She’s been chosen to wipe out the whole project. Everyone involved in it, even any surviving clones. That’s what I hazard those deaths were.”

Vision One pulls out the tomestone she had been given. “Imperial intelligence is not as water-tight as they think it is.”

Ai Deahli: “Surviving—oh. I remember…”

Ai tears her visor off and throws it away before collapsing. Her eyes are strangely glowing red.

Ai Deahli: “Grand Steward. I should have said something but I thought I—I wish I had more time. You have been so good to me and I—”

Ai Deahli drops a crystal at Vision One’s feet. “My memories. I don’t know why she needs them.”

Ashelia Riot: “Who?” Her voice is softer now than it is when she is normally in battle.

Vision One reaches and grabs the crystal. “It’s not over, Ai. Believe me.”

Vision One smiles weakly at Ai. “You have been dear to me. I won’t let you go away so easily.”

Ashelia Riot looks now at Vision One, unsure for the first time.

Ai Deahli: “…Okay. I’ll treat you to tea. Next week. Both of you.”

Vision One: That sounds great. I’ll hold you to it.”

Ai wants to say something, but her breath catches in her throat. She looks up at the pale sky, and closes her eyes against the sunlight. She’s so tired.

Vision One looks away.

Ashelia Riot checks to see if Ai is showing any signs of life. She sees nothing, nothing at all that might indicate she is still alive. And in fact, she even sees, for the first time—sparks?

Vision One: “We stopped her rampage and brought her to her senses…but the inevitable end of this protocol was thereby triggered.”

Ashelia Riot stows her gun, no longer sensing any threats. “…I know you. You’ve been at the manse.”

Vision One: “It’s Kharaa. Kharaa Khatayin. I wish we could have met under brighter circumstances.”

Ai starts fading into hazy orange light, like the clouds around Azys Lla. Aetherochemical constructs breaking down.

Ashelia Riot: “What—”

Ashelia Riot can’t help but stare at the light, what it’s doing to the body that recently seemed so…organic.

Vision One: “…She was beautiful in spite of her—in spite of the imperial ‘masters’ who dare mock science. And the project had cursed her to a limited lifespan that she nonetheless lived to the fullest.”

Ashelia Riot: “But what happened?”

Ashelia Riot looks to Vision One. “Why all this? And why now, after so long?”

Vision One: “I’m not sure. It seemed someone wanted to erase all evidence the project happened in the first place.”

Ashelia Riot: “She said someone—‘she’—needs her memories. Could that be the person who did this?”

Vision One shakes her head and holds up the crystal in one hand, the tomestone in another. “I was approached by one Yun, who foresaw this eventuality and took measures to ensure her continued survival in another way. I admit, I myself struggled to accept it, as I wanted to find a way to extend the life of her given form…but I had to trust in Yun’s gift.”

Ashelia Riot does know of Yun Khatayin; she’s a contact of a few Riskbreakers.

Ashelia Riot: “But why would the Garleans have created a clone made to…expire? Why now? Why not have her betray us during the fall of Ala Mhigo?”

Vision One: “I’m not sure it was their intention to give them a deliberate expiry, for even their records could give just an approximation. No more than a flawed attempt at recreating Allagan technology.”

Ashelia Riot can’t help but grit her teeth and clench her fist; still, she has nothing more to say.

Vision One: “They have nothing on her time with your group. They wouldn’t have even known how to betray you. Until recently, Ai’s thoughts have been hers and hers alone. I doubt they will know anything other than the fact Ai has completed her mission.”

Ashelia Riot grits her teeth again—at the unfairness of it. Ashelia Riot: “Completed her mission. And they’ll simply keep doing…this.”

Vision One: “I hold no love for Garlemald. They learn from the past to commit a growing list of atrocities. I work for every opportunity to dismantle their efforts. Even as they brought Ai into this world, they dealt her a cruel hand.”

Vision One’s grip tightens around the crystal. “She was suffering so much because of their twisted science…at least now, no matter what, she’s free.”

Ashelia Riot: “Will she still be free even if—”

Ashelia Riot says no more, but looks at the crystal in Vision One’s hand.

Vision One: “Yun’s gambit relied on this crystal. Once I transfer Ai’s memories to the tomestone, I can upload the data into an artificial body.”

Ashelia Riot: “And they won’t be able to reach her again? They won’t be able to control her?”

Vision One nods to Ashelia Riot. “There won’t be anything to control. Whatever trigger they used to start the terminal protocol, is no longer part of her.”

Vision One: “It may not be all the same, but I can hope you can accept her again when the time comes. If nothing else, it would certainly assure the Empire can truly never touch her again.”

Ashelia Riot hesitates, then nods. “Good. Do what you must.”

Ashelia Riot looks back at where Ai once was, and speaks softly in Ala Mhigan: “You deserved better.”

I was tagged for WIP Wednesday by @iona-xiv !!! (didn't have time to answer yesterday ;_;)

i have so many thing kinda hanging in my brainspace, between Chad eye ideas (eyedeas? hmm), Kasha meeting new yokai/showing them to Toyo, and maybe getting Chad into the adventuring business. The biggest thing, though, would probably be the new character I'm working on, Holuikhan Haragin!

She's from a part of the Haragin tribe that split off and swam deep into the Ruby Sea generations ago, a place where no light touches. Still working on the nitty-gritty of her backstory/lore, but I've got the basics down, and some neat physical descriptions sort-of based on real life! Did you know there's certain deep-sea fish that have capsule-shaped melanin cells that absorb an insane amount of light? I took that and modified it a bit, so her skin's super dark underwater, and her fins/scales/eyes can shine bioluminescence like an anglerfish to attract prey! yeyeyeyeye fishe

Trust NPC: Shining Comet

Initial Unlock 

Upon arriving in the First, Shining will be one of your first companions picked up. She hangs around the Wandering Stairs, and offers her shield or bow to you, saying she’d like to help. A native of the Source, she talks to you about the differences of music between the First and the Source, as well as asks for news about how home is doing. She’s lived in the First for approximately 4 years. 

Shining is capable of taking any role the party needs, though she has a preference to tank and place herself at the front lines. If she’s not tanking, you might see text boxes above her character that say how she would have tanked something better.

Selection: “Chose the professional, huh?” 

Job:  Trained as a Free Paladin in Ul’dah for a few years, she has a Paladin’s Soul and access to many of their abilities. Differences are mostly cosmetic, with Passage of Arms being red aetheric wings, instead of blue.

Weapons:  Ritter Shield and Molybdenum Longsword. The Shield was a gift from her mothers, spelled to reflect spells, up to ~a Fire 3 spell. It has flowers and is engraved with names of her ancestors.

AI Behavior:  Tank: A+ tank. Will not lose aggro, will actively use cooldowns as they come up, and does her best to mitigate any damage that the party might suffer. Actively uses reprisal, divine veil, cover, anything that will help. If the healer isn’t doing well, she will use Clemency to try and help out. If a wandering mob gets pulled, or someone pulls something, she will automatically pick it up with a “Hey, watch it!” Avoids aoes if she can, but if there’s a choice of avoiding an aoe or turning the boss onto the dps/healer, she’ll get hit.

Battle Lines: Engaging Enemy - “Hey stupid, over here!”  Skill Use 1 (Common) - “Ancestors shield me!”  Skill Use 2 (Common) - [no line spoken, but she sings an aria]  Skill Use 3 (Rare/Cooldown) - “I have this in the bag, don’t worry.”  Assist - “Watch out now, can’t have you getting hurt.”

Limit Break:  Shield of Song: Shining’s shield flies up into the air, and glows brightly, becoming ten times it’s size. The runes on the edge glow, and every party member is shielded by music bars that have the runes in place of music notes. 

Level 1: “Watch out!”   Level 2: “Brace yourselves!”  Level 3 (Shield of Song): “Ancestors on high, protect my friends!” 

Defeated Common - “Damn it, not again…!”  Rare - “Here’s hoping…”

Revived Common - “Thanks, sorry about that!”  Rare - “Why can’t it just take already.”

Selection: “My songs are yours.” 

Job: Primarily using a bow, Shining focuses more on singing and buffing allies through her song than doing damage, earning her the title of Songstress, though her damage is decent. Her buffs are extremely powerful, and is best paired with a melee dps. 

Weapons: A yew longbow, almost as tall as she is, made of thick sturdy wood. Its seen many years of use, and is completely spirit bonded to Shining.

AI behavior:  Her dps is a bit low, all things considered. She buffs people more than doing her own damage, though she does have high burst. Will occasionally get caught in aoes because she forgets that she’s not wearing armor. Will prioritize doing mechanics over dpsing, though because she’s ranged she’s able to dps fairly well. 

Battle Lines:  Engaging Enemy: “Here we go again...”  Skill Use 1 (Common) - "Hope I stocked enough arrows for this one!”   Skill Use 2 (Common) - [no line spoken, but she sings a song]  Skill Use 3 (Rare/Cooldown) -  “You don’t deserve the effort I’m putting in to kill you.”  Assist - “Careful, don’t want your song to fade out now.” 

Limit Break: Level 1 - “Eh, might as well.” Level 2 - “Will you just die already?”  Level 3 (Sagittarius Arrow) - “Return to the Lifestream!”

(Defeat and Revival lines are unchanged from Paladin) 

Unlockable Class

Selection: “

Job: Post Shadowbringers, Shining issues a quest to find out what she was doing in all her years in the First. She’s teased and hinted at various escapades, but the questline shows you that she was a traveling witch. She helped out many people, including a Crystarium Guard named Sybella, whom she shares several flirtatious lines. 

Uses the Scholar animations, but instead of a fairy she has an elemental sprite next to her, giving her the title of Sprite-Charmer of the Wilds. The element of said sprite changes depending on which area or dungeon you go into. 

Weapons: A weathered old songbook, full of hymns and prayer-songs from her home village. In the bars and lines of music lie spells, enchantments, and charms.

AI Behavior: Warns you right off the bat that her healing isn’t the best (though mechanically she’ll never let you get below 30% or so.) Her sprite takes care of quite a lot of healing, and she uses spells to provide barriers and preventative healing. Very, very, very occasionally her sprite is replaced by a Puff of Darkness minion, and functions as her Void sprite. 

Said sprite has buffs that change with each element. Wind gives a haste;  Fire gives a general damage buff; Earth gives a slight shield that she can stack on; while Lightning causes abilities to have a 10% haste in recast timers; Water is a refresh MP buff; Ice increases critical hit rate. She also has access to Void and Holy sprites, and they use abilities at random. 

Battle Lines: Engaging Enemy: “Kill it quickly, please.”   Skill Use 1 (Common) - "Sprite, work!”  Skill Use 2 (Common) - [no line spoken, but she hums a tiny cheerful tune] Skill Use 3 (Rare/Cooldown) -  “Probably should’ve called the fae in for this one...”  Assist - “Hey, are you alright? Let me just--” [she casts a healing spell on you]

Defeat Common: “No, wait, wait...!”  Rare: “Sibbie, I ... I’m sorry...” 

Revived Common: “No one saw that, did they?”  Rare: “Just... give me a minute.”
