Song Review(s): Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring the Wolfpack - “Loose Lucy,” “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” “Only a River” and “Silvio” -> “Tequila” -> “Silvio” (Live, Dec. 12, 2023)
Whether purposeful or coincidental, Bob Weir provided cheapskates like Sound Bites with a primer on the full range Wolf Bros music with the sampler from the group’s Dec. 12 show in New York State.
From the solo-acoustic “Loose Lucy” to the segue of “Silvio” -> “Tequila” -> “Silvio,” performed by the Bros plus the Wolfpack strings and horns - 10 musicians in all - the giveaway was generous in both songs and substance.
youtube
“Lucy” was choppy; “Silvio” -> “Tequila” -> “Silvio” was smooth. The former seemed on-the-fly; the latter well-rehearsed, nearly perfect save for some mumbled words.
The audience was part of the band, too, handling “Loose Lucy”’s thank you …refrain and singing the one, titular, lyric in “Tequila.”
Weir, still on acoustic guitar, played with bassist Don Was and drummer Jay Lane on “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” joining “Silvio” as the teaser’s other Bob Dylan cover, while keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and pedal steeler Barry Sless added countrified color to “Only a River,” the lone Weir solo cut in the gratis chunk.
The take away? More is generally more where Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring the Wolfpack are concerned.
Grade card: Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring the Wolfpack - “Loose Lucy,” “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” “Only a River” and “Silvio” -> “Tequila” -> “Silvio” (Live - 12/12/23) - B-/B-/B/A-

//Sooo once again I remembered something, and while I didn't find this myself I think it is fucking telling as fuck. Fair warning below the cut is just my theorizing and speculation.
Tumblr media
Okay first off, let me say this off the bat I refuse to believe that Hoyo has the balls to kill off Robin before they can make money off her. Now don't get me wrong, I like Robin, she seems sweet and in a good way, but I refuse to believe she is genuinely dead. I don't care if anyone wants to call me cynical, go for it. I thought they legit were going to keep Jingliu as Jing Yuan's dead master so you aren't going to sell me on the idea she is legit dead.
Reason 1: So while technically Sparkle did offer to play as Robin, let's be real Sunday's reaction was way to calm. And he was way to calm about Sparkle impersonating his sister. I dare anyone with siblings they don't hate argue with me on this.
Sure maybe it was desperate times but Sunday's reaction to Sparkle offering to play his (DEAD) sister as she basically mocked and insulted him by acting as if there was no way her own brother would know his sister was ice cold if she was dead.
At the very least she is rubbing salt in a wound and depending on his mind set at the time (if Robin was dead) it seems like Sparkle was making Sunday's baby sister's death out to be more than an inconvenience than a gruesome and traumatic loss like it would be for most siblings that actually don't hate one another. And he was simply polite, he didn't raise his voice, didn't yell, didn't threaten to throw her out.
Does that sound like a man that loved his sister and found out she was murdered in the one place no one should have ever been able to hurt her?
Reason 2: Yes, I realize he has a greater plan and some sacrifices might have to be made buuuuut if you reject hearing out Aventurine and walk away you get this clip. So if it is true that Robin is dead, then that would imply Sunday took Sparkle up on her offer which does not align with what we have seen of his character so far.
For me it's more a question of whether or not he knows she is alive. And as far as my own personal experience as someone that has siblings (ones I actually know and somewhat give a damn about and then others that I wouldn't even know if they died and don't know what they look like because I haven't seen them in so long) I am going along with the idea she is alive and this is just a trap the Family devised.

Multi-instrumentalist David Lindley, Best Known for Work with Jackson Browne, Dies at 78
- “The world of music lost an icon today,” guitarist Guthrie Trapp says
David Lindley, the multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with Jackson Browne, has died at 78, the Los Angeles Times reports.
No cause was given.
“The world of music lost an icon today,” Guthrie Trapp said. “One of the deepest and most unique players ever. My musical expression would not be the same without the influence of David Lindley. He was a master.”
Lindley played such a wide variety of stringed instruments, Acoustic Guitar magazine once called him a “maxi-instrumentalist.”
“I’m gonna fix up my (Lindley-) autographed lap steel and cry all over it,” Carolyn Wonderland said.
Jason Isbell called Lindley’s death “a huge one,” in a post on Twitter.
“Without his influence, my music would sound completely different,” Isbell said. “I was genuinely obsessed with his playing from the first time I heard it. The man was a giant.”
In addition to his work with Browne - that’s Lindley singing falsetto on “Stay” - Lindley toured and recorded with his cousin Linda Ronstadt, Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, Crosby and Nash, Warren Zevon and others.
“He was the sweetest, most down-to-Earth person you could ever meet,” Zevon’s son, Jordan, said of Lindley.
“Very sad.”
Mark Karan said he was “devastated” at the death of “one of my all-time musicians.”
“His roots music, song curation and all the awesome ethnic music influences he brought to the party made him such a special and beloved musician for us lovers of the eclectic,” the former RatDog guitarist said.
After leaving Browne’s band, Lindley formed El Rayo-X and released solo albums among his other projects.
“May David Lindley rest in peace and love,” Todd Rundgren’s Spirit of Harmony Foundation said.
