I feel like... Perhaps... Arguing that transphobia is defined by murder and that anything other than murder doesn't even matter... May NOT be conducive to fighting for trans rights.
Like... people want the right to exist as they are. They want to have access to hrt and surgeries and prosthetics. People want access to clothes that fit them and reflect how they want to be seen. People want access to medical care (eg. Getting screened and treated for sex-based forms of cancer can be impossible if you have the "wrong" sex listed to receive those tests). People want to be respected and treated well. People want to not be sexually assaulted and beaten and abused. People want to have access to housing and jobs, and the protection to not lose those things for being trans. People want access to shelters for homeless people or survivors of domestic abuse. People want name changes.
Acting like all of those things don't matter because at least they weren't murderered by an individual (and instead die of suicide or state violence, or survive and suffer) isn't okay.

Once again I am Posting to give you all a friendly reminder that most popular Covid-19 posts on this site contain some level of misinfo. Common types of misinfo include:
"heard from a friend of a friend" medical advice, including "twitter thread of things a nurse told me" or "opinion of a random unverified doctor on social media"-- NEVER follow this type of health advice without checking with proper sources first
anecdotal data provided as fact
misunderstandings or misrepresentations of what disease agencies like the CDC are doing, should be doing, or what it would even be possible for them to do
assigning numbers and statistics to things OP just made up. this ranges from saying something like "only 2% of people mask" to mean "anecdotally i see only a very small number of people masking in my community"* but the actual number is misleading to seem to seem like a real statistic.... leading all the way to people just making numbers up
overly dramatic language**
assigning moral values to things which have no moral weight (e.g., "I haven't gotten covid because I'm a good person who....")
misrepresenting the conclusions of current research. this one is tricky because you'd think linking a study in a high-tier medical journal would be a good source, but I frequently see the following mistakes: overly definitive language, including asserting causation when causation has not been established, or claiming a single study definitively has definitely proven something; not understanding appropriate extrapolations from a study's design (something that happens to cell in a petri dish is NOT definitive of what happens in a body); incorrect biological conclusions/assumptions, or else oversimplification that loses nuance; cherrypicking studies. Remember that Covid-19 is still a very new disease and the research is still evolving. A study that seems extremely important in one year might turn out to be bunk later, not because the study was poorly designed, but because we were missing key info. There is a lot we simply do not know and cannot know and we need to careful of our language when reporting on it.
just straight up made-up facts
Please keep this in mind if you choose to interact with a covid-19 post. Remember to click through on any sources to verify them, to be wary of a lack of verifiable information, and that a post making you feel overly emotional is a sign to double-check the facts and message.
*Clarification: assigning an estimated number to things you see is an innocent rhetorical device in terms of informal communication, which is what tumblr is for. I say things like this in casual conversation too. It only becomes an issue when whatever post is mass reblogged. I'm not saying don't post like this..... I'm saying know to recognize this in things you choose to interact with.
**Again, emotive language is fine for blogging. It's a natural part of human communication, and I do it too. I'm not criticizing that. I'm warning you to be aware of it as a potentially misleading rhetorical device before you hit reblog.

hey my snake makes hissing/sneezing noises frequently, and i just saw them wipe some kind of discharge from their nose. a bit of quick googling told me snakes do Not Cough Or Sneeze Or Have Snot, and that these symptoms are usually a sign of. some kind of problem. do you have any advice? is there anything i can do before a vet appointment to help him?
Yes, those are textbook signs of a respiratory infection. Respiratory infections can get very serious very quickly in snakes, so I absolutely recommend setting up a vet visit for your snake as soon as possible! Most snakes with RIs respond very well to a course of antibiotics.
Like I said, it's very important to get your snake to the vet as soon as possible when you notice RI symptoms, but there are a few things you can do to help them stay comfortable in the meantime:
Keep things as calm and quiet as possible. A stress-free environment will help your snake's body work on fighting the infection.
Increase their humidity. Regular misting and a humidity box (easily made by cutting a hole in the lid of a food storage container big enough for your snake to curl up in and filling it with damp moss) can help.
Taking your snake into the bathroom and letting the hot water run in the shower until it's nice and steamy can provide them with some temporary relief. Don't put your snake under the water, just let them be in the steamy room for a few minutes.
Once your snake is back home and on the mend, it's also important to consider the cause of the RI. For pet snakes, not all but many respiratory infections can be traced back to husbandry issues, so take a look at your setup and make sure everything's good. Most RIs in pet snakes are caused by too-low humidity, so make sure you're measuring the humidity in your enclosure with a good probe hygrometer.
All the best! I hope your snake feels better soon!

I heard something fun the other day. If there were a zombie invasion they would get hired to do our jobs because they could work 24 hours non stop and not need to be paid. So that's something to think about.

How likely is it that I will get sick from hanging out with someone with strep?
They are on day 4 after symptoms started, and on medication for it. Their immune system might be weaker than others.

Jack wakes up with a sore knee and a toddler sitting on his chest.
“Hi, Papa,” Ellie whispers. Her blonde hair is wild and she smells like maple syrup. Since Jack retired earlier this year, most mornings have begun this way and he can’t say he minds all that much. He knew that her first few years, when he was still playing, would be hard. He’d tried to be as present as possible but even when he wasn’t away on roadies, the early morning practices and evening games meant less time than he’d have liked at home. He relishes these mornings with Ellie; most of the time, he doesn’t even miss those early workouts. He definitely doesn’t miss waking up in a hotel bed in a different city. Jack’s mornings are a lot slower now, but they’re also a lot sweeter.
But most mornings, Jack’s knee doesn’t feel like somebody’s just jammed a screwdriver into it.

re: the guide on how to responsibly buy a snake - what does it mean when tongue forks are stuck together? Thank you!
When the forks of a snake's tongue are stuck together, that can be a warning sign of a respiratory infection!
Some other signs to look out for:
Very heavy breathing that might feel rattly when you're holding the snake in your hands
Excess drool/saliva/mucus in the mouth
Frequent yawning
Open-mouth breathing
Coughing/wheezing/sneezing/clicking/popping noises
General signs of illness; lethargy, loss of appetite, irritibility
