Genuinely hate how people routinely excuse salems actions in The Lost Fable tbh. Specifically regarding their kids.
Like, I'm sorry, but Salem NEVER cared about them. They were collateral damage. She used her own daughters silhouettes to taunt Oz, and she was the one who attacked first.
"Those kids would've lived if Oz hadn't tried sneaking them out!" So we're agreeing that Salem was an active danger to both Oz and their daughters? She shot first, and Oz HAD to retaliate to protect them, and unfortunately failed.
And she used their kids silhouettes to TAUNT Oz and Oscar. There's never anything that so much as IMPLIES Salem grieved for their children. Even IF she grieved and moved on, no SANE mother uses her dead children to taunt her ex. And Salem isn't the type to just... move on; that isn't in her character. The only answer is that she NEVER grieved nor cared.
Meanwhile it's full on said that Oz grieved, for several LIVES, while drowning himself in alcohol in an attempt to forget what happened, possibly killing himself several times via alcohol poisoning. Any good father would react badly to losing his children in a horrible accident like that.
Also did we just... forget that Salem caused EVERYTHING in the show?? She indirectly killed Pyrrha, Penny, destroyed Beacon, destroyed Atlas, wrecked Haven, and has killed COUNTLESS innocent people including actual CHILDREN, regardless of if they were in the Academies or not. She tortured and manipulated Cinder when Cinder disobeyed her, tried the same with Emerald when she defected, tried killing hazel when he did the same. Not only that but she experimented on innocent SEWs, turning them into monsters. Plus she tortured an actual 15 year old. And that's not even getting into the sheer amount of manipulation that goes into Tyrian.
And what has Oz done?
Uh... leave out that Salem was immortal to a bunch of kids, gave them an out and told them the war was dangerous, and blamed himself for the Fall of Beacon and Pyrrhas death. The only thing that's pretty bad was the fact he lied to his inner circle, but even then just about one thing.
He could've taken Ravens shape shifting magic at any time. Oz is an immortal wizard, he could've absolutely tracked her down and taken back his magic. But he didn't, as a show of TRUST, despite the fact that she'd use her magic to hurt people. Oz left a metaphorical door open for her if Raven ever wanted to return.
If this were Salem? If he were anything like her?
Raven would be DEAD.
But Oz is actually a good person so... she's not.
The Academies were made to give people the tools and resources to protect themselves from Grimm, while also effectively helping push Salem back. People going into the Academies KNOW what they're signing up for. The Grimm aren't just gonna sit back, they're ALWAYS going to inevitably attack. It's better if people actually, yknow, know how to fight and protect others. And the youngest people normally go into them is 17 years old. And they have training missions, so if they want to back out, they can at ANY time.
Anyways Salem fucking sucks, Oz is nothing like her, and yall need to quit sucking her metaphorical dick. She's a good character, very interesting and complex, but she's genuinely horrible. If you still agree with Salem after knowing what she's done... please don't have kids.

I'm not sry for going a little unhinged over the cut RWBY V9 epilogue [lighthearted], especially over Qrow. You don't know how much it means to me that he's ok. He is my ultimate blorbo. I was so scared that he was gonna spiral into severe depression and alcoholism and it was gonna destroy me bcus of my hyperempathy for him. Instead I get destroyed by how pleasantly surprised I am that he's actually trying so hard to hope
He's still carrying his losses and things are pretty bad but he's *trying*, he's trying so hard to see the good in things, he has a support system that he can count on and is working to support others
And compare this to how Qrow used to be, the lone wolf who isolated himself from others bcus he was so scared of hurting them with his Semblance, who drank his troubles away no matter how much it hurt himself or those who loved him, who has experienced sm trauma and pain and loss throughout his life and recently... and he's *grown*. He's grown and changed sm and he's trying so so hard
Qrow is a character who means a lot to me (for reasons I can neither understand nor articulate). And to see how he's grown and changed and how he *wants* to hope no matter how hard it is makes me so so *so* proud of him

[Ruby stands by the window , looking at the sandstorm]
Raven - [walks into the room]
Ruby - Get out …
Raven - It helps if you talk about it
Ruby - What would you know ? I don’t know what you did with my mom , but I do know that you didn’t bother to know us afterward
Raven - I didn’t ….I did however spend over a decade in mourning on my own . I don’t know how it will turn out , but maybe leaning on your friends a little would be better than letting it make you bitter
[Ruby gripped the curtain hard]
Raven - Take it from someone who also lost the one they loved ….don’t let the grief ruin you too

Chapter summary: At her 14th birthday, Raven Branwen discovers her maiden powers during a storm.
Or Raven gets the maiden powers before entering Beacon.
Tumblr media
➸ Chapter 01:
It was raining season and like every year, the tribe had blamed the horrible weather on her brother's semblance.
Usually, after years of misfortune around their lives, Raven would have believed them.
But today felt different; not in it-was-their-birthday type of way, but she felt more active and alive for some reason.
She left the camp unnoticed. The tribe had no use for them until they turned seventeen, so Raven was allowed to come and go however she pleased.
She walked around the woods with nothing but her trusted sword in her back. She earned it during their first raid and there wasn't a day that Raven didn't pass without training.
She became so good, that she was capable of wondering alone in the forest and protect herself from Grimm.
Once she got as far away as possible...
What was she supposed to do? She hasn't thought this through.
She just got this weird feeling. She felt connected to the storm, somehow. She knew that whatever caused it wasn't Qrow.
She climbed a tree and sat in one of the branches. The rain stopped anyone from seeing anything, even in front of their eyes.
Whatever this was, it didn't feel like her semblance. I was completely different... and Raven had the foreboding it was dangerous.
She tried to focus on that power... Nothing.
She screamed in frustration as she heard a thunder in the background.
Raven really wanted that stupid storm to just stop pouring like a crazy.
And suddenly, the water stopped. Or more like it, it stopped only around her.
—Fuck no! How????
After jumping from the tree and moving around to confirm that the lucky hole of the sky follows her and only her.
—I cannot believe I want the damm storm back.
The sky obeyed and the water poured once again, making Raven even more mad.
If the tribe hated Qrow because his semblance fucked the weather so much, her power to make it even worse would probably get them kicked out of the tribe.
How am I going to explain this?

raven swings omen right next to herself to open a portal to qrow to let yang and weiss go through and it opens directly behind qrow.
raven swings omen right next to herself for the ambush and it's a straight shot from cinder with the fireball and she's also the first one to walk through.

You know, if the possibility of Summer not only being Salem's final lieutenant, but also possibly the person who accidentally killed the Spring Maiden (and who might also be Gretchen Rainart based on a previous theory mentioned somewhere)...
That's gotta be reaaaaaaally awkward if Summer was ever around Hazel at any point.
i’ve mentioned this before i think (<- i assume by “mentioned somewhere” you mean you read a theory post but can’t remember where in which case, the op was probably me, i’ve been on this train for a while) but:
the official story is that gretchen rainart, after enrolling at beacon academy, “tragically lost her life” on a training mission
per lionheart, the spring maiden was “determined, at first, when she inherited her powers, but the weight of responsibility proved to be too much for the child. she... ran. abandoned her training, everyone. that was over a decade ago.”
per raven: “she was scared when we found her! weak! no matter how much training i put her through, she never learned! she wasn’t cut out for this world! and with those powers, she would’ve been hunted her entire life. what i did—”
(“and which we are you referring to?”)
raven: “that’s why i tried to leave when i did. i’m not afraid, i’m smart.”
raven left taiyang shortly after yang was born. this would be approx. 15-16 years ago as of the beginning of V1. however, her statement that she “tried to leave” suggests that she stayed (reluctantly?) entangled with ozpin’s cause for longer.
eyeballing it, summer left when yang was around five and ruby about three. this would be about 12 years before the start of V1 and 3-4 years after raven broke things off with tai. since raven and summer were obviously still in close contact then, this tracks with the interpretation that leaving tai <> leaving ozpin.
‘more than a decade ago’ is vague but presumably means >10 and <20. so spring running away would have occurred approx. 10-18 years before the start of V1.
hm.
“nice story. but if gretchen’s death taught me anything, it was never to trust you.”
let’s consider the case of the runaway spring maiden. and, more specifically, the assumptions the fandom (myself included) have tended to make.
first assumption: the spring maiden trained in mistral or at haven academy.
no one ever says as much. qrow’s suggestion that the spring maiden was “picked up” by the branwen tribe after she ran away does not, in a world where trans-continental travel is commonplace (and was explicitly safer a decade+ ago than it is now), necessarily imply she ran away from haven. weiss got picked up by the branwen tribe after she ran away from atlas, after all.
likewise, amber’s presence at beacon and, later, fria’s in atlas prime the audience to link the spring maiden to haven. however, both amber and fria were in the academies because they were medically fragile and not expected to live for very long; prior to cinder’s attack, amber was traveling in rural vale, tailed by qrow. it also makes sense, in general, not to keep the living keys to the vaults in the same fortress as the vault they can open.
second assumption: lionheart knew her.
this follows from the assumption that she attended haven, but look at what’s missing from lionheart’s account: he never uses self-referential pronouns. his syntax leaves it ambiguous whether he knew this girl or if he’s simply repeating information he was given.
third assumption: raven’s “we” is the tribe, and she’s talking about finding the spring maiden after the girl ran away.
before V9, this was more plausible, but i don’t think it adds up now that we know raven was still at least notionally aligned with ozpin, via summer, as recently as twelve years ago. in order for “we” to mean the tribe, raven would have had to actually leave (as opposed to “trying to leave”); thus, either summer was conspiring with raven while raven was leading the tribe, or raven met the spring maiden after whatever went down with summer, in which case the third person involved is a complete mystery. the former is possible, but i think the simpler explanation—that this “we” is ozpin’s circle—is more plausible.
especially because what raven says lines up with what lionheart says. except for “she was determined at first,” but even if lionheart did know her, raven was clearly much closer to her and is the type to see through any façade the girl might have put up. (pyrrha was also “determined” but you know that if raven knew her, she would remember how scared pyrrha was. same principle likely applies here.)
fourth assumption: “what i did—” is solely about raven mercy-killing her.
which, it might be.
but if “we” means ozpin’s circle, that would mean raven was training the spring maiden on his behalf—and because it doesn’t really make sense for #3 to be anyone but the spring maiden, we can assume with high confidence that raven had a kindred link with her, ergo she loved the kid like her own family.
the spring maiden “ran away.” gretchen rainart “tragically lost her life on a training mission.” raven “tried to leave.” summer and raven and a third person were involved in a rogue mission to end things once and for all, none of them ever came back, and raven never told anyone what happened.
all of these things happened a bit more than a decade ago.
“what i did—”
i think she’s talking about summer’s last mission. the young spring maiden was overwhelmed, scared, struggling to learn what she needed to learn—and she had a huge target painted on her back because of salem. raven cared about her. if she wasn’t cut out for this world, the one defined by eternal war between ozpin and salem, then maybe the answer is to change the world. end it, once and for all. (sometimes it’s worth it all to risk the fall?) so she conspires with summer to do exactly that.
and then it goes so catastrophically wrong that a) summer joins salem, b) there’s a fight, c) gretchen is mortally wounded, d) raven either mercy-kills her or just can’t save her, and e) raven becomes the spring maiden.
ok.
now. if gretchen was the spring maiden, how do we square the circle of “died on a training mission” vs “ran away”?
in V3, qrow talks about having to search for maidens and in V5, ozpin says that one of the reasons he gave the branwens bird forms was to make it easier for them to search for new maidens when the transference of power was “unclear.” gretchen enrolled at beacon “against her brother’s wishes” and hazel holds ozpin responsible for her death; i think she was the spring maiden before she enrolled, raven identified her, and ozpin recruited her personally.
(if only because unknown maidens are mentioned twice in connection with the branwens and that has yet to pay narrative dividends; and it fits quite nicely.)
it does not go well. gretchen gets more freaked out with every new inkling she’s given of the conspiracy and is under intense pressure not to back out or tell anyone on the outside what’s happening. raven, her mentor/handler, sours more and more on the whole situation and eventually decides she’s not going to be a part of it anymore.
she’s not backing down from the fight. she’s not running away. but she’ll give gretchen a way out and make sure no one else can find her, and if that blows up her relationships with the rest of the inner circle, so be it.
so the spring maiden runs away. “abandons” her training, except raven still knows where she is and is still trying to help her figure out the magic because, well, she’s sort of stuck with it until she dies. gretchen can’t go home yet (salem might find her), but she can lay low and focus on mastering this power to defend herself away from the pressure of being one of ozpin’s guardians.
raven refuses to tell anyone where gretchen is. hazel is getting increasingly frantic; either she’s dropped out of contact or her vague, cryptic messages have him worried. nobody at beacon can give him a clear answer.
several years go by. the situation does not improve. somehow or another summer and raven cook up a plan to Fix Everything by taking salem down. it goes horribly wrong. summer joined salem, gretchen is dead, raven is the one left standing with blood on her hands and magic in her soul, after years of obfuscating where the spring maiden went.
what to do?
tell no one about summer. no one would fucking believe her if she told the truth. refuse to answer questions about her bond to summer, no one will think twice about her doing that because it’s what she did when gretchen went missing, too.
tell hazel gretchen is dead. he deserves to know. what happened, and why it happened, but leaving out summer’s involvement. if she’s vague on how and when—if she makes it sound like she was too cowardly to tell anyone that she, perhaps, let gretchen die (“[you saved yang] once. because that was your rule.” <- qrow really believes this)—or couldn’t save her—she can reveal that gretchen is dead without linking her death too obviously to summer’s disappearance.
if ozpin hears that gretchen is dead from hazel—when the infuriated meltdown rampage happens—then he can quietly tap qrow to confirm (by talking to raven) and restrict who knows the truth; hazel’s explosive grieving anger is easy to spin as hysterical paranoia.
and playing gretchen’s death “close to the chest” is a classic ozpin move. after all, learning that gretchen has been dead the whole time will only sow negativity, and the situation doesn’t materially change very much either way; they’re looking for the spring maiden either way, and everyone is aware that gretchen might die before they find her, so they’re already keeping an eye out for unknowns. qrow knows the truth, but he’s not about to spill the beans to anyone without ozpin’s say so.
and summer’s the one who suggests recruiting hazel to salem, because it’s her fault gretchen is dead but she can at least bring hazel into the fight to tear down the system that led her there. (“you’ve never wondered why she recruited you? you, specifically, to help her find the relics?” <- a narratively interesting line of attack in that it explicitly puts this question in front of the audience, follows up with an unequivocal confirmation that salem sought hazel out very deliberately, and follows that with ozpin’s overtly manipulative and unsatisfying answer of “because hazel is easy to manipulate.” lots of people are easy to manipulate. why choose hazel? how did she even know about Just Some Guy who lost his sister?)
like
all it really requires to tie everything together around the discrepancies is for ozpin (a liar) and raven (a matryoshka doll of secrets she refuses to talk about) to be, er, lying and keeping secrets. and narratively gretchen being the spring maiden just makes sense, to almost the same degree that summer joining salem just makes sense. it’s intuitive. it fills in gaps the narrative quietly circled in V8. it tracks with gretchen being so important in the same volume that makes a huge thing of how no one knows what salem is really after. no more gretchens; so you’ve decided against vengeance for your sister, after all this time?; in pursuit of a new world.
but yeah like. it’s fun because hazel is so malleable and so good at pretzeling his thinking that he could conceivably have been told the truth—summer killed gretchen—and still been talked around to aiming all of his fury and vengeance at ozpin because 1. ozpin is the reason gretchen got pulled into this mess, and 2. gretchen died in the crossfires of a fight that broke out when summer learned the truth (that the war was one-sided paranoia), and 3. for salem and summer the point of this war is to end the paranoid conspiracy so nothing like this can happen again. but my god, the tension between him and summer could probably cut glass.

Kasai Rex!Faunus Jaune
Jaune: I'll see you guys later.
Ruby: Huh? Where are you going?
Jaune: I'm gonna go eat in my room.
Nora: We can do that?
Weiss: Sit down and eat, you antisocial buffoon!
Jaune: ...Okay.
Cardin: I'm telling you, I know what I saw! There was something by the pool last night, tearing apart something huge!
Russel: Cardin, I normally believe ya, but it just sounds too weird.
Dove: Yeah, like, a deer carcass in the pool? Pretty sure we'd get an announcement about that.
Lark: Not to mention the crocodile you saw eating it.
Cardin: That wasn't a crocodile! It was... It was something else! Something out of a horror film!
Jaune: (Cutting off the legs on his nuggies, Wishing he could eat in private)
Fun Fact! In 1933, in the African Kasai Valley, a hunter named John Johnson took a photo of an alleged dinosaur while hunting elephants. The elephants he intended to shoot were in fact hunted by a bipedal creature with red scales and black stripes. He shot this creature, but it retreated. On his return to camp, he found the creature again eating a rhinoceros near the water.

Nora: WOW! You are HUGE!
Jaune: Um, h-hi... I'm Jaune.
Nora: Where were you on the bullhead?! How'd you even fit?!
Ren: Nora, please.
Jaune: They, uh... They had to call in another bullhead for me.
Fun Fact! A recently discovered early whale, the basilosaurid Perucetus Colossus has the heaviest animal bone mass to have ever been discovered, even outsizing the giant Blue Whale.

Sperm Whale!Faunus Jaune Arc & Shark!Faunus Yang Xiao Long & Leviathan Melvillei!Faunus Papa Arc & Otodus Megalodon!Faunus Raven Branwen
Jaune: Just you and me, Yang.
Yang: Yeah... Only one of us can be the top fighter in this ring, and it's gonna be me.
Pyrrha: Why are those two always fighting?
Blake: For as long as I've known Yang, she and Jaune have always been fighting. It might even date back to their ancestors.
Meanwhile...
Papa Arc: Make the first move, Branwen...
Raven: Hmph! Ladies first, Arc...
Fun Fact! Leviathan Melvillei is an ancient ancestor of the sperm whale, equipped with teeth on it's top AND bottom jaw. It is argued whether it hunted Megalodon, were hunted by it, or simply competed would attack the other given the opportunity. The third is the often agreed upon consensus.

Saphron: I took a test today! I aced it!
Mama Arc: Well done, Saphron! And how did you do, Jaune?
Jaune: Uh... W-Well, I think I'm improving, but-
Mama Arc: Jaune...
Jaune: ...I got a D+.
Fun Fact! Giganotosaurus is thought to be the largest theropod dinosaur discovered. However, despite have a much larger skull, and internal model of the brain casing shows that it may have had a smaller brain than the Tyrannosaurus.

Nitpick for Day #9
There's like, barely any work put into the relationships between the adult characters in RWBY and it makes them feel unplanned and half-baked. It's obviously not as important as the kids relationships with each other, with their mentors, etcetera, so it's technically a nitpick, but it's one that drives me up the wall.
Tai and Qrow have some sort of moment in V3 before Qrow tells Ruby some important stuff? That's never come up and likely never will again. We have no information on what their relationship is like outside of that singular moment and the fact that Tai laughs about tricking him into wearing a skirt when they were kids (I am so glad I rejected the idea of Tai and Qrow disliking each other for my own headcanons, but that's the sort of vibe those two interactions give me.)
Was Tai originally part of Oz's inner circle? What was his relationship with Raven like? What was his relationship with Summer like before they got together?
Tai is friends with Peter Port and Barty Ooblek enough that they came over to his house, but Yang never is like ??? "why are my teachers here?" And yet there's no indication outside of that scene that Port and Ooblek are old friends of Qrow's, we never see them talk to Glynda or Oz, there's no mention that Ruby or Yang have any reason to believe their teachers are connected to Tai and yet they're in his house later and it's treated as normal old friends just dropping in.
We don't know when Qrow and Winter's rivalry started, we don't know anything about Amber, we don't know if James even really knows who Raven is, we don't know what Glynda or Qrow or James's relationship with Lionheart was like, we don't know when exactly any of them got recruited to Oz's inner circle, we don't know when Oz went to school or with whom despite the fact that according to the After the Fall/Before the Dawn books, he was 'younger than forty,' and we don't know anything about who 'Ozpin' was outside of Oz. We're told that Tai 'shut down' after Summer's death and left Yang to raise Ruby on her own and yet Tai as we know him seems like a perfectly fine and present dad, so when did he break out of it? What was Qrow's reaction to Summer's death? How did the Inner Circle respond to Tai's shut down if at all? Did Summer have parents? Does Tai have parents? Were Qrow and Raven born into the Branwen camp? What sort of treatment did Qrow and Raven get there growing up? Why would Raven leave it just to go back? There are big blazing question mark signs attached to tons of the adult characters, and yet none of it is treated as that important. Literally in ten years, we're only just now starting to get information about Summer that feels out of place because of how little work was gone into the adults in general. The whole scene with Summer and Raven in V9 just raises more questions, and at this point it's unlikely that we'll get any satisfying answeres considering the possibility of V10 being the last volume (if we even get a V10.) What the heck is up with Theodore? We might not hear very much of it, but he's Inner Circle, he's a Headmaster, we should know something about him in the main show.
The closest we get to like, meaningful relationships is Oz's inner circle, James and Winter, the Ace Ops, and then the weird rushed work they put into making Qrow be Clover's friend for a season and then making Qrow be Robyn's friend in the season after that. And even those got not a lot of attention at all so they all feel weird and shallow. We're randomly supposed to believe that James groomed Winter, but we're given very little details on their relationship. We see Oz's Inner Circle working together or arguing or talking things out, we see Ironwood and Qrow hug, we see Qrow want to kill James, and yet even all of that is not actually treated as important enough to really have good resolution or consideration. I like a lot of them, but one reason why I like all of them is because I've come up with tons of wide backstory about their teen years and dynamics and how they wound up joining up with the things they've joined up with.

Team RWBY will become the next generation of Maidens
Tumblr media
(Disclaimer, none of the edited images above are mine! I just found them on google lol. Also, SPOILERS FOR VOLUME 9!!!)
So this is kind of just a random theory of mine that I’ve been brewing for a while and I’m sure someone has mentioned it before, but I’m simply gonna explain why this would be the logical and plausible ending for the entire show.
We know the identity of the current three maidens. Cinder Fall is the Fall Maiden, Winter Schnee is the Winter Maiden, Raven Branwen is the Spring Maiden, but we have interestingly never had a confirmation on the identity of the Summer Maiden. Some fans (including myself) speculate one of two things: the Summer Maiden is someone completely random/character we haven’t been introduced to yet, or... Summer Rose is the Summer Maiden. Now if this were the case, then that means Summer Rose isn’t actually dead.
The very first scene in the final episode of Volume 9, we see a private conversation take place between Summer and Raven about a secret mission Summer embarks on alone. We aren’t sure about the details of the secret mission except for the fact she had lied to her friends and family about it. To me, that sounds an awful lot like she either faked her own death or nobody found a body when she dissapeared and assumed she was dead. I think Mama Rose is still alive somewhere (possibly lurking around in the Ever After which I’ll circle back on)
As for the transference of the Maiden Powers to Team RWBY, I must address the elephant in the room. A few of our beloved side characters must die.
I’ll start with the obvious. Raven and Yang.
Tumblr media
This one is pretty self-explanatory. Raven takes a fatal blow in a battle either from Salam’s forces or possibly even a Cinder battle 2.0 or Salem herself. I know damn well the final person in her thoughts would be her daughter. Go ahead and tell me I’m wrong. She knows out of everyone, Yang is the most trust-worthy and deserving of such power. Even Ozpin himself had once told her “Your mother must trust you a great deal” when Raven told Yang about how Ozpin turned her and Qrow into birds. In this case, it will be Raven’s final act of protection for her daughter to assure she’ll have a better chance of survival. Not only this, the transference of powers scene between her and Yang would be the most memorable and meaningful moment between them in the entire series. (And gods, Yang out of all of Team RWBY would make the most sense to become a maiden. Her hair ignites on fire for crying out loud!)
Next we have Winter and Weiss.
Tumblr media
This one will be considerably more painful to witness considering how strong their relationship is and everything they’ve been through growing up together. My best guess is Winter will die battling Salem or possibly alongside Weiss in battle against a different antagonist, but I’m confident it will happen the soonest. And I mean like Volume 10 or 11 kind of soon. Winter and Weiss will likely be reunited in Volume 10 and near the end Winter will meet her fate, giving the Maiden Powers to her sister who will benefit the most from them. With Weiss gaining these powers, imagine her dust glyphs on steroids. She’d be a fucking unit against Salem’s forces (as I’m sure Winter would be too.)
Then, Blake and Cinder.
Tumblr media
I actually have quite a bit of evidence to back this one up. Cinder really doesn’t have anybody close to her that she would even consider giving up her powers for. She’s a greedy bitch and would probably think nobody would receive her powers if she just didn’t think of anyone when she died, only come to find out the final person to look into her eyes before her final breath is the one to take the powers from her. Ironwood once mentioned that it’s not uncommon for the powers to be transferred to an enemy who the Maiden faced in her final moments. Blake absolutely deserves the right to send Cinder to meet her makers and snatch up her Maiden powers. It would be so satisfying to see Cinder and Blake meet up in the holding space between life and death, but Cinder becomes furious when she realizes Blake will be the one to take HER precious power. It’s the ultimate justice and the best revenge Blake could ever obtain. (Also, Blake would become the first Faunus Maiden that we know of and she'd be such a girlboss for it ;p)
And finally, Summer and Ruby.
Tumblr media
In the end, I think it would be a wonderful way to wrap up the entire series by making all of Team RWBY into Maidens and would be the most logical way they could defeat Salem. Of course, this is also assuming they somehow are able to get all of the relics and use that to assist them in defeating Salem once and for all. Also, for shipping purposes, it pretty much sums up the soulmate parallels for the four of them to become maidens. Blake (Fall Maiden) + Yang (Spring Maiden); Weiss (Winter Maiden) + Ruby (Summer Maiden). I think it just fits all of them so well!
As I previously mentioned, Summer being alive and the current Summer Maiden would open the door for Ruby to receive Maiden powers. I’m not entirely sure how it would look and I could theorize for hours to try and explain it, so I’ll keep this short. My current belief is that Summer is in the Ever After which would mean at some point Team RWBY would have to return to deal with Neo’s bullshit and at some point come across Summer. In a heated battle, Summer knows her time to ascend has come. If we take a look at Ruby’s ascension, she technically didn’t even ascend at all. She chose herself which means she didn’t become a new person with no memories of her past or who she is. However, I’m fully confident that Summer will choose to become a different person. She knows she would lose all her memories of her family, her Team, and everything that makes her Summer Rose. This includes her Maiden Powers. It would make the most logical sense that she’d transfer them to her daughter Ruby as her final act of a mother’s love. It would be poetic and the perfect character development for both Summer and Ruby. Plus, imagine how much more powerful Ruby’s silver eyes will become. With Maiden Powers, her petrifying glow from her eyes might be powerful enough to trap anything that’s Grim, including Salem. She wouldn’t be dead, but she’d be imprisoned in stone and petrify for the rest of time.
[Another minor theory in relation to this: Summer is actually dead and passed on her Maiden Powers to Ruby when she was still an infant which means Ruby's powers would be dormant until the time is right]

Summer and Raven used Relic of Knowledge's first question (theory)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fact that Jinn is already one question short before RWBY even finds it has always bugged me. In the past 100 years, someone who knew about the relics, was close enough to Ozpin to learn Jinn's name, had access to the Spring Maiden, and wasn't interested in the relic outside of one question had to have been in Haven and used the lamp. The only people who I can possibly think of that match this bill are Oz's (at the time) inner circle: Ironwood, Lionheart, Qrow, Glynda, and Raven.
Raven Branwen, with fresh spring maiden powers, and Summer Rose used the Relic of Knowledge together, causing Raven to completely lose hope in the battle against Salem and Summer to go on a solo-mission that she never returned from.
Raven knows about Ozpin's true past and that Salem is unkillable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is very easy to see just based on how Raven holds herself and how she treats Ozpin. In V5, viewers never had a real reason to distrust Oz, but Raven is laying it on thick. She talks about Oz about the same way that team RWBY does later on in V6, after using the lamp. She dances around telling Yang and Weiss everything she knows during their conversation in V5, but outright tells them that she knows more than she's telling them and to not trust anyone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raven describes herself learning Oz's secret (the existence of Salem), and then seeking more information beyond that. Raven calls Salem "unstoppable" and "impossible to defeat" repeatedly; she strongly believes that Salem is impossible to kill.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Learning via Jinn that she is impossible to defeat would certainly explain why she so strongly believes this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raven says that she knows about Ozpin's past. Qrow and the rest of Oz's group all know that he reincarnates, but Raven quite easily offers that up (or at least implies it) to Yang and Weiss, which makes it seem like she knows more beyond that. It's difficult to prove just how much Raven knows about Oz and Salem's past because the viewer isn't supposed to know about it at this point in the story, but Raven seemingly has a lot more information to offer to try and get Yang to stay, so it's likely that she knows at least the broad strokes.
Raven was the Spring Maiden that opened the Haven vault
This requires a bit of a breakdown of the pre-show timeline.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Over a decade prior to the events of RWBY V5, the previous spring maiden ran away. Raven met her soon after and killed her, taking the powers for herself. "Over a decade" is up to interpretation, but assuming that it means somewhere around 13-16 years, it would put Yang at anywhere from 2 to 5 years old. That perfectly lines up with when Summer left.
So, over a decade ago, Raven gained spring maiden powers, and right about the same time, Summer disappeared. It's unclear when exactly Raven cut ties with Oz in relation to this point, but we can safely assume that it was before, because Raven was with her tribe when the previous maiden arrived and she only returned to her tribe after leaving Oz's group.
At this point, Raven might have informed Summer of her powers. It's unclear what kind of relationship they had, but Summer is the only member of team STRQ that Raven has not outright insulted, so it's possible she trusted Summer slightly more than her brother and Tai.
Using those powers, Raven easily could have gotten down to the Haven vault, as she was a trusted members of Oz's group and knew Lionhart, and used the relic.
Mystery surrounding Summer's disappearance
The scene in V7 where Qrow talks about Summer with Ruby has always struck me as odd in a few ways. Ruby poses the question of "What if Summer knew about Salem being unkillable" and Qrow reveals that even Oz wasn't sure why Summer left.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Specific wording is everything in RWBY. Qrow says that Tai and himself were both in the dark about Summer's disappearance, but makes no mention of Raven at all. If your teammate went missing, you'd obviously reach out to your other teammates, even if you were estranged. The choice to not mention Raven here is important because it means theres room for Raven to have not been in the dark. Qrow also points out that theres a lot that Ozpin may have been hiding from them in the same breath as he says they were in the dark, seeding suspicion into the truth of even that statement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's obvious that Ruby is using Summer as a way to ask Qrow for advice and follow in her mother's footsteps, but I think the choice to have Ruby ask this immediately after Qrow says that Summer leaving was a mystery is significant. Linking the concepts of "what might Summer have done" and "Summer ran away" by having them in the same conversation is intentional.
Summer knew Salem could not be killed
Raven and Salem both directly compare Ruby to Summer when she talks about being able to defeat Salem.
RUBY: We've seen what you're capable of. The lamp showed us. It showed us everything. We've seen that you cant be killed, but we've also seen you fail. We don't have to kill you to stop you. And we will stop you. SALEM: Your mother said those words to me.
The only logical explanation for Summer saying any of that is for her to have used the lamp. Even just "we don't have to kill you to stop you, and we will stop you" wouldn't make sense if Summer was unaware that Salem is unkillable.
RAVEN: There is no "beating Salem". RUBY: You're wrong. We've done things that most people would call impossible and I know the only reason we were able to do it is because we didn't do it alone. We had people to teach us. People to help us. We had each other. Work with us. At least I know we'll have abetter chance if we try together. Please. RAVEN: You sound just like your mother.
Raven's comment also makes little sense if Summer didn't know about Salem being unkillable. However, Summer specifically telling Raven that they should work together to defeat Salem is important because it lends further proof to the idea that Summer and Raven used the lamp together.
However, I can't really explain the leap that Summer made from "work together to defeat Salem" to "leave everyone behind on a solo mission". Summer's motivations are intentionally unclear and I'd bet that these contradicting ideas are going to be important when we eventually learn what happened to Summer.
TLDR;
Raven gained the spring maiden powers over a decade ago and she and Summer used them to open the Haven vault without telling Oz and ask the lamp "What is Ozpin hiding from us", or something similiar. After learning that Salem is unkillable, Raven completely loses faith of Oz and in the fight against Salem and cuts off all ties with their group and her brother. Summer urges Raven to work together to stop Salem before eventually leaving to go confront her and never coming back.

Glynda pyrrha cinder and raven with a male S/o that just has a pet Beowulf in there dorm/apartment cause theyre semblance let's them control Grimm like salem so he named it chad
Glynda, Cinder and Raven with a S/O who can control the Grimm like salem
Couldn't really do one for pyrrha and even then my character limit is 3 at max
Glynda Goodwitch
Tumblr media
•Needless to say Glynda was shocked
•Sure she knows semblance can grant all kinds of abilities but she was shocked that yours allowed you control grimm of all things
•It was truly an interesting semblance as not only could you do that but you could also sense when they were around and they're exact location
•It made you an incredibly valuable huntsman
•Still though she's having very serious words with you about keeping a beowolf of all things in your apartment
•Not to mention naming it chad of all things, surely there were better names that you chosen
Raven Branwen
Tumblr media
•Oh she finds your semblance incredibly useful
•You can control grimm as well as sense where they are?
•Oh yeah she's definitely keeping you around and not just because she already loves you
•You also make raiding a lot easier since you can prevent grimm from destroying settlements that they can steal from again
•And you can also keep grimm away from the camp
•She just wishes you'd come up with better names for the grimm you decided to keep around you
•Seriously Chad was such a weird name to give to a Beowolf of all things
Cinder Fall
Tumblr media
•Oh You best believe that you were instantly recruited into Cinders group once she discovered your semblance
•Such an ability has a variety of uses, especially for her master salem
•She'd be sure to help you perfect your ability and see if you could do more than just control and sense them
•She wants to see if you can create new grimm out of merging then or even make appendages like salem
•Her darling has such an amazing semblance, you just need to work on your naming sense
•Calling a beowolf chad was a little awkward after all

Raven: *dramatically swoops in to rescue Qrow mid-fight*
Qrow: Raven! You really saved me there!
Raven: *pulls Qrow upright* Don’t mention it. You remember the Branwen credo.
Qrow: “Never miss a chance to be dramatic?”
Raven: Not that one! The other one!!
Raven: “Never fly alone!”

This is a bit of a head-canon of mine that I have had for awhile but before team STRQ became the “Coolest team to ever graduate Beacon”, I kind of hope they were actually the “Most dysfunctional people to have ever became a team” when they enrolled into Beacon.
We all know what type of individuals they became as adults, but I think it would be a neat twist in the narrative that they were much different people back in their Pre-Beacon days.
Branwen Twins
We all know that the true reason Raven and Qrow enrolled into Beacon was because their tribe sent them to “infiltrate” the academy and learn the ways of “huntsmen”, so that the tribe would have had better knowledge to kill them.
So upon entering Beacon we can easily imagine Raven and Qrow being close guarded with one another and possibly could have looked down on other students as being “weaker” then them.
Taiyang Xiao Long
For myself I have always imagined Tai to have had been the “Fighter” of team STRQ, due to his fighting skills and physical build. As an adult he strikes me as someone who has found a certain “balance” when it comes to fighting, probably due to the experience he has gained since his Beacon days.
So….it has led me to also believe that must have been not the case when he enrolled into beacon and was still a teenager. I have a belief that Tai must have been someone who wanted to prove his strength, find the next challenge and have had a desire to become the strongest fighter in all of remnant.
I can imagine if that were the case he must have been a Hot-headed individual when he enrolled and didn’t think too much of even wanting to join in a team with anyone.
Summer Rose
Now this is a big one because there is still so much mystery into her character that it’s debatable of what kind of person she actually was, outside the stories mentioned by those that were close to her. All we know is that she was very kind and sweet to her family, was an amazing huntress and according to Qrow was a bit of a “brat” in their Beacon days.
To me……my biggest HC for Summer is that before she became the woman we presumably know of today, she was actually cold-hearted and had severe trust issues when she enrolled into Beacon.
Her family was killed at an early age, by unknown assassins, and she had been on the run ever since.
An orphan, with no where to go, learning ways on how to survive in a world full of Grimm on her own.
Activating her silver eyes at young age and painting a target on her back anytime she used them and having no idea her eyes were the reason she being targeted in the first place.
Possibly learning down the road about huntsmen academies and thinking it being a safe haven for her from her assailants.
When she came to beacon she probably had no intention of even wanting to become a huntress, and just thought of the academy as a place to keep low for a short time, until she felt it was appropriate to move on.
Her tragic childhood and upbringing left her cold hearted and in an almost emotionless state, that made her into an even more dangerous individual to anyone who would try to get close to her. Which is why she wears her hood up at all times and keep to herself silently.
So if you could imagine Summer, Tai, Raven and Qrow being what I had just described up above when they enrolled into beacon….
And eventually found themselves taking part in the team selection exam……
You can also imagine that when they first met each other, everyone around them must have thought there would be no way those 4 would ever become a “team”….
…..Until eventually at graduation those same 4 disfucfional kids became “the coolest team to ever graduate Beacon”.
What do you think? Might actually be a good backstory for team STRQ in my opinion lol.

Now I’m so curious as to the Paths of the rwby characters omg. You said they’re gonna be mostly The Hunt, but that some are gonna change?
Yeah they’re all almost entirely The Hunt/the Path of their home nation with some exceptions.
For reference, Atlas follows Erudition, Mistral follows Harmony, Vale and Vacuo follow Hunt, White Fang follow Nihility, and the Grimm come from Propagation and Finality
Each character and their Path is what they are as of their most recent appearance in RWBY canon, whether that’s time of death, last scene, or as of the v9 epilogue. Some minor characters have not been included as I don’t believe they are necessarily Pathwalkers/forgot about them when this list was made. It’s safe to assume that any non-mentioned Huntsmen follow the Path of The Hunt
Additional note, the line in my post about there only being 4 Emanators in Remnant outside of Ozpin and Salem is still technically true as of the information that Ozpin knows. All other Emanators are mysteries to him and were not intentional. The wills of the Aeons is strange…
