I always liked Ravenpaw. Not sure if it's because I started reading Warrior Cats the same time I read "The Outsiders" but he always remembered me to Johnny Cade.

More information:

o As a kit he looked more relaxed and with a clean fur (like later on) but after Redtail's death he started to be careless with his look and his hair got messy. Once in the barn Barley helped him to start taking care of himself again.

o When he gets old, his muzzle becomes grey-haired as well as the tip of his ears and overall has a lighter tone than when he was young. His ear's hair also get some white hair. As he gets sick, he gets baggy eyes and slightly messy hair.

i cannot tell you guys how long i fucked around with the colors on this design, and i'm still not happy w it. i draw on my laptop, and will typically test my art in tumblr drafts to see how it looks on my phone. my phone and my laptop screen show color different. cue me trying like 50 different versions of this damn design, and every one looking like shit on my phone. at this point, i have given up. maybe i'll tweak his colors again at some point, but for now, this is what he gets lol

Anyway,, i had a idea for this guy, and it would not leave my head till i drew it. basically i was thinking about how Hollyleaf is often drawn w spiky fur like her namesake. i love when ppl do that, but i was trying to think of a relative where she would've gotten it from. and then i remembered Deadfoot! and i thought it's be super cool if he looked really similar to her! his build is also like the build i'm gonna give Lionblaze

since as Deadfoot died like late tpb or inbetween then and tnp, i figured not many cats would recognize him in Hollyleaf. except for Ashfoot. i picture her seeing Hollypaw on a patrol or at a gathering, and trying desperately to believe she doesn't look like Deadfoot, or that its some coincidence. that she only sees Deadfoot in Crowfeather and Breezepelt. until Hollyleaf reveals the secret, and all Ashfoot can see is Deadfoot glowering down from the high tree at their son

all that to say, somtimes i think too hard about kitty cat family trees lmao

Yeah, couldn't help myself. ^^ Rileypool's lineart turned out so good, and looked so much like how I picture his uncle Barley, that I just had to make a quick new ref sheet for Barley. So here's our beloved farm boy.

For his physical description, Barley is described as a a short, long-furred, sturdy tom with a plump belly, big paws, broad shoulders, and a broad face. As mentioned, I just reused Rileypool's lineart for him. He had a really rough life with BloodClan before going loner, and fought some few but intense battles after that, so I scarred him up a lot. On his reverse side, you can see the scars from his broken leg in Secrets of the Clans. ^^

For his pattern, Barley is described as a black-and-white tom with blue eyes. I always based his pattern off of his depiction in the graphic novels, as that's how I always pictured him, but I've always struggled with marking the black stripe connecting his head patch to his nose look realistic, so here I just ditched it instead, so this is basically his graphic novel design minus that stripe and with slightly tweaked patches shape-wise. I played around with his head patch a lot to get it looking how I wanted, and I'm fairly pleased with the end result.

Overall, I'm really happy with how this turned out.
