Context to who those cats are:

Birchface (birch) is freckle’s sister, and he drowned in a fight with appledusk (apple). Mapleshade (big bad girlboss, think dahlia hawthorne but buff) had kittens with appledusk reguardless and pretended they were Birchface’s, which his sister Frecklewish (Freckle) believed. Then a medicine cat called Ravenwing snitches to the leader and Dahliashade is kicked out and her 3 children drown in the river because they cant swim. She blames this on Freckle, Apple, and Raven respectively and kills each one of them to avenge her kids. Then she goes to cat hell and starts a evil ghost club

BristleRoot could happen behind the scenes in your au, like Bristle starts sneaking out more often and both Ivy and Bramblefake notice, Bramble makes Ivy find out what she's up to and Ivy find out about the couple.

Ivy's then faced with the moral complication of wanting to see her daughter happy but the people around her and her worsening mental state reminds of her of the pain she felt once Dovewing left. She thinks Bristle will do the same so she tells bramble about it thinking it'll protect her child only for Bramblefake to lash out on Bristle, ultimately ending up in her seriously wounded or dead. That leads to the code change as the clans think that no one should have to die for who they love.

I'll almost definitely have it happen behind the scenes, even if it doesn't end up being BristlexRoot specifically. That's also an excellent way to get Bristlefrost killed, an "execution" in this arc would have been very fitting but we didn't actually get one.

The idea of it being Ivy who ultimately snitches though... hmm. That's a really good idea with it triggering Ivy's past feelings of abandonment with Dovewing, but I also really want to hold onto the theme that Ivypool is not going to let her daughter go through what she did. Once she tells them "I will protect you, you do not have to do this" I want her to mean it, and I think the raw idea will go against that

BUT, this is too good to pass up. How could I make it work though...? Maybe...

a) Thriftpaw was the daughter who was being used as Bramblefake's spy, so she did not promise Bristlepaw that she'd protect her Nah, something doesn't feel right about Ivypool knowing Bramblefake was hurting ANY of her kids and then ratting out another one. She'd know by this point that Bramble will do something drastic.

b) Ivypool could have been followed, or told Blossomfall about it thinking she could confide in her. Blossomfall didn't mean for anyone to get hurt though, much like Ravenwing in MV. Though, what I don't like about this is that it sort of downplays the emotional impact that seeing Bristlefrost's forbidden romance would have on Ivypool, that's really juicy and I want to preserve that.

Maybe Blossom is the snitch, but Ivypool could have saved her daughter. Bramblefake declares that there will be a trial, and Ivypool decides that this means it will be a punishment like the others. Bristle begs for help, but Ivy doesn't listen, saying she disappointed her and this is for her own good.

Bristlefrost is brought before the other clans at a gathering, made to join Bramblefake beside him on the tree. Bramblefake announces that she's been seeing Rootspring, DEMANDS that SkyClan give him up. They refuse.

"Codebreakers must be punished, or StarClan will never return. I ask one more time; punish Rootspring before all five clans, or I will end this Gathering."

SkyClan still insists they will deal with their warrior privately

So Bramblefake lifts his paw, and slashes right through Bristlefrost's throat. She falls right off the tree. There's an uproar, but the moon is still bright and full, because StarClan is not there to cover it. Bramblefake uses this to say that StarClan APPROVES of his actions! This is the fate that must befall the unrepentant!

Ivy, of course, is screaming. She broke her promise. Her daughter is dead.

This event was so traumatic that the code is changed because, just like you said, no one should have to die for who they love.

ahh again i don't really know enough about him or really think there's enough content of him to make a good meme!!! but i will say that he was absolutely in the wrong for snitching on mapleshade (especially since i dont think he had any actual proof???) and got what was coming. actually now that im thinking about it i think i hate him

Consider: Mapleshade is ALSO the mom of Ravenwing, Daisytoe, Sweetbriar + Fallowsong (with the latter three being taken away as kittypets but later escaping). So Mapleshade murdered her own kit

but daisytoe and flashnose are sisters and they were born the same time as pinestar, who is sweetbriar’s son

Mapleshade’s Vengeance is one of, if not my favourite Warrior Cats books so I know characters from it a lot better than one-off characters from most other books haha. Here’s snitch boy, I like him and also like talking shit about him, I think it’s funny.

He has white to make his blue eyes possible, and those eyes are extra saturated to give a sorta “watching-eye” look. His cheeks are meant to vaguely resemble wings. He has big ears in reference to him learning Mapleshade’s secret; he hears everything.

I like the headcanon that he’s very young and was graduated early due to his mentor dying, and also the headcanon that he had a crush on Birchface. I also love the headcanon that he misinterpreted the sign, and that it was actually about keeping the kittens away from water. Overall I think he’s a mostly good boy, but far from perfect (did you really have no power to stop Oakstar from exiling kittens dude?).

I headcanon them as pangender, aroace and toric, and using they/them pronouns.

Absolutely hate the ‘early’ characters such as Oakstar and co and were straights bitches. Like forcing this poor woman to leave during a flood, and then forgiving a man who cheated on his wife BUT not allowing this woman into the clan like she hadn’t lost everything already. And despite all of that, i absolutely love those books? Bc they created so much more interesting conflict than “hell is going to come back to the real word??”. Even so, every person in MV needed to go to the DF

but it sounds like it was a terrible accident and appledusk wasnt tRYING to get birchface and his apprentice killed in the river. like! hello how many times have cats literally accidentally drowned each other in these books, or straight up killed someone innocent because they were in a camp raid, or an border war or whaTEVER and everyone is sore about it for a few days then over it and that ‘killer’ is still hailed as a saint or still just like fine. like guess what! they live in a shitty society where they are trained to fight and like GET each other sometimes a bitch dies man.

anyways like, all in all you right everyone in MV shoulda gone to the dark forest is mapleshade also had to go.

Oakstar, and frecklewish and all of the clan advocated to force mapleshade and three innocent kits out into the dangers of the forest alone despite the codes saying that cats should protect kits from anywhere always.

ravenwing, WHILE i have sympathy for him i knoW it only is formed from my own headcanon au ideas of him and his personality and life. the reality is that man! he’s a lil snitch! like! shut up dude! who cares if she had half clan kits (apparently everyone and their mothers but like oguh still)

like! i think that/those books defiantly bring depth to how the clans have developed and changed and have/need to learn to change their laws and forgive and shit. (i dont understand why they still have codes about diff clan romances i think thats stupid that its still law for so many reasons)

but i also hate those books because their dumb and jksdhg because despite how much i like the idea of them being interesting and developing characters and world building and shit, the erin hunter team doesnt know how to right for shit and comes off to meh. they wrote mapleshade so bad, man.

Going off of your Mint Theory, It would be an interesting twist if Fakestar was actually a medicine cat from the ancient Clans. A lot of warriors have VERY basic background knowledge on herbs, and being that mint is used to cover the smell of decay, Fakestar may have been a medicine cat who once dressed a Clanmate for burial. With his “dedication” to the code, I would say that this is Ravenwing (since he snitched on Maple for lying about the paternity of her kits) But I could be wrong!

Erins please give us an evil medicine cat.

Ravenwing would be an interesting possibility because he definitely put the code before anything else as I imagine a most other medicine cats probably wouldn’t have done what he did in that situation. Only problem is I don’t see how he would fit in with all the clues we’ve had but you never know!

Y'know those AUs where cats are reincarnated into their opposites? The main AUs that I've seen are Thrushpelt and Appledusk (Thrushpelt is very selfless towards Bluestar and her kits, opposed to Appledusk and Mapleshade), Frecklewish and Honeyfern (Honey saved a kit, Freckle watched them die), and I saw someone jokingly say "what's next, Ravenwing and Ravenpaw?" I guess just because of their names. But,, what about Ravenwing being the reason that Ravenpaw didn't snitch? 🤔
