okay well fine if no-one else is going to do it - I'M inventing a new ship. loki/ravonna. lokonna? frostslayer? lieslayer? still workshopping that.

anyway here's my reasoning:

i would say ravonna is the most loki character in the loki show - specifically, she's a lot like t1 loki. she's intelligent, she's a perfectionist, she's smooth and authoritative, she clearly loves deeply but she can nevertheless be calculating / ruthless / selfish, she's committed to the tva's morals, and when her world starts unravelling, she panics and does terrible things to try and salvage it/cover it up.

all of this makes ravonna an excellent rival/competitor for loki. two cautious, calculating traitors with a ruthless streak and a need for control. tell me you don't want to see them play 4d chess.

loki was a tva prisoner, now ravonna is a tva fugitive. consider the cat-and-mouse detective potential in either direction.

loki's initial scraped-together plan to rise through the ranks and potentially take over the tva would have made him a rival to ravonna - and maybe eventually a usurper she would feel obliged to rebel against.

each of these characters would have killed the other without a second thought when they first met - which adds weight, tension, and potential for tragedy to any future bond they form.

they both fundamentally want somewhere to belong - and they're each part of the reason the other doesn't have that any more.

ravonna, having been so devout, is the most likely of any of the tva staff we know to have a variant monsterhood complex to rival loki's jotun one - and coming to respect/like loki, another variant, could help her process that.

ravonna also thinks of loki as monstrous because of his sacred timeline role as a supervillain. if she went down a darker path for a while, or if she began to recognise that she'd already been on a very dark one, then, again, it could be interesting to see how her understanding of loki and herself developed in light of firsthand experience.

loki (like all variants, but especially loki) is a kind of religious figure to tva staff - specifically a demon. the tva, meanwhile, frame themselves as angels - servants of the divine plan. ravonna as a falling angel, loki as a fallen god... religious guilt, questioning faith, religious schisms and conflict... there are many kinds of potential here.

loki was part of HWR's masterplan as his successor. based on the recordings we heard in 2.01, it seems like the show might be following the comics in having HWR also have a fixation on ravonna (romantic, in her case.) so they have a common enemy-or-potential-ally, and reason for their paths and interests to potentially converge.

Sylvie's fury was unstoppable at that point.

Her rage had mixed with madness, a bloody madness.

She had Ravonna tied up to a chair and was holding the sword to her throat.

Sylvie: Dare to get close and this bitch will die!

Hunter B-15: Sylvie please be reasonable! Let's talk face-to-face like mature adults!

Sylvie: I'll only calm down when this little bitch reveals to me what I did to deserve to be treated like a criminal when I was just a child! *She said continuing to point the sword against Ravonna's throat*

Ravonna: All right, all right I'll tell you! Your Nexus Event is that you wanted to be a hero! When you were arrested you were playing with your toys and created a scenario where you were a Valkyrie. Your timeline predicted that you would take a path similar to Loki's path and thus that constituted a Nexus Event! *Ravonna said in a trembling voice*

Sylvie: So you stole my childhood and my entire life for this? *She said furious*

Ravonna: I-I'm sorry! I was forced to do it!

Hunter B-15: Please let her go! We can fix everything!

Sylvie laughed like a maniac.

Sylvie: This whore will end up like your beloved He Who Remains! *Sylvie said with a manic smile*

Ravonna: We have been snatched from our lives by a madman who erased our memory and turned us into puppets. Trust me when I tell you I'm truly sorry for what I did to you. Please don't kill me Sylvie! We'll solve everything, but please don't kill me! *She begged*

Sylvie laughed.

Sylvie: Look at you, so helpless and frightened! This is exactly how I felt that damn day! I was a fragile, innocent and happy child and you took everything away from me! Do you feel my pain now, Ravonna Lexus Renslayer?

Ravonna: Y-yes! *Said Ravonna starting to sob*

Sylvie: Mmmmh, music to my ears! *Sylvie said in a sadistic tone*

Loki: That's enough! You won't solve anything by killing her! She is a victim just like you! The real problem is the variants of that bastard! It is towards them that we must direct our anger! *Screamed Loki*

Sylvie: How can you defend her after she pruned you?

Loki didn't answer and hit Sylvie with a green beam, knocking her to the ground. She got up but Hunter B-15 and Hunter D-90 held her down.

Hunter D-90: We won't hurt you, but please calm down. There's no point in fighting each other!

Loki freed Ravonna from the ropes.

Loki: Are you okay?

Ravonna: Yes, thank you very much. *Ravonna said in a tone full of gratitude*

Sylvie burst into hysterical tears. Ravonna walked over to her and hugged her tightly.

Ravonna: Forgive me, little one. *Ravonna said sincerely*

Sylvie returned Ravonna's hug.

Sylvie: Let's put an end to this shit! *Sylvie said firmly*

Ravonna and the rest of the group nodded and began the manhunt.

They were determined to fix that mess and get their lives back.

Chapter One

Sweat trickled down the base of Ravonna’s neck as she monitored the desert temple below her. It was hot, hotter than usual for the desert planet of Untwoine. A harsh wind flew through the valley and a metallic, almost electric, taste settled over her tongue. The air crackled with energy.

It wouldn’t be long now.

In the sacristy below, a mage captured a free-flowing strand of quantum energy and fashioned it into a mirage of a roaring dragon. The dragon leapt through the crowd, bouncing off vendors’ carts and temple spires, before it jumped back into the large chasm that cut through the temple pavilion. Children squealed in delight at the spectacle which even Ravonna had to admit was impressive. In all her existence—however long that was—she couldn’t remember seeing anything like it.

Another rush of wind brought the smell of fresh baked goods from the market below causing Ravonna’s stomach to rumble. It had been too long since she’d eaten anything other than stolen TVA nutrition bars and, Sacred Timeline, those sweets smelled good. Ravonna’s sweet tooth was a closely guarded secret; only one person had ever figured it out. Her former partner and closest friend: Mobius.

Ravonna’s mouth quirked unwittingly into a smile as memories of Mobius rushed to the forefront of her mind. He would have loved this place. The festival. The temple. The market. It was so full of life. He certainly wouldn’t miss the opportunity to swing by that market; he was always bringing her back sweets from The Timeline for them to share. Unapproved, of course. She really should have reported those infractions. The smile slid from her face. …She really should have reported a lot of Mobius’ infractions. If she had, maybe she wouldn’t be in this mess.

Ravonna shook her head and refocused her attention on the chasm that cut through the town below her. She ignored the rumbling in her stomach and the memories that threatened to pull her under. She couldn’t afford to be distracted by frivolities. She had a mission to accomplish.

There were various modes of time travel technology across the multiverse but devices powered by quantum ore remained the most efficient. Unsurprisingly, quantum ore was the most dangerous and expensive fuel to obtain. Few were willing to risk a trip to the quantum realm. But here on Untwoine, once every 3,141,592 years, a natural rift opened up between the two realms and quantum ore flowed freely, ready for the taking.

Ravonna needed it. The collapse of the Sacred Timeline had the unintended effect of exploding demand for quantum ore— diminishing supply resulted. It was only a matter of time before various time managing organizations would be forced into a war over the resource, no matter how much they might proclaim peace.

Ravonna scoffed. The war would be futile. Mobius and those pesky Lokis would figure it out eventually. The multiverse was too chaotic to survive. Eventually, everything would be pruned back into order and The Sacred Timeline would return. It always did. Chaos to order to chaos, ebbing and flowing like the tides of the sea. There was only one man powerful enough to bring order and rule all of time; only one man it ever had been and ever would be. Him.

Ravonna needed to find him. Each second of needless chaos meant exponentially more branches to prune, more lives lost, more horrors unleashed. Mobius might think her a villain but wasn’t it more humane to stop the suffering before it could even begin? Life destined for death was a cruel waste. Ravonna needed this quantum ore to continue her search for the one variant she was positive could re-establish The Sacred Timeline and save them all.

Kang the Conqueror.

This time Ravonna would rule by his side. She would make sure of it.

A blinding white light erupted from the portal below her. Ravonna lowered the visor on her helmet and checked the quantum monitor on her suit—the peak extraction opportunity was approaching. She readied the quantum tank at her side and unsheathed her weapon.

For @kleenexwoman Look, Dogma Loki's whole monologue in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot pissed me off for so many reasons - it wasn't funny, it was petty on the part of the actor, director, and the other actor who was just a hologram. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I was in the Jay and Silent Bob fandom for long enough to know when something was genuinely funny and when something was a petty-minded little slam at other actors and fandoms. So, this fic has been a long time in coming, but it took the brilliance (and placement) of Loki s01e03: "1893" to give me the push I needed to get it written.

It's full of Easter Eggs. It's meant to be humorous and a bit spiteful perhaps, but it was fun to write. Hopefully, some of you will enjoy it.

BACKGROUND

Ravonna Lexus Renslayer, born Rebecca Tourminet, is a variant of Rebecca Tourminet who was captured by He Who Remains and became an operative for the Time Variance Authority, known as Hunter A-23. During one mission as a Hunter, she was assigned with capturing Sylvie Laufeydottir, although she managed to escape and became a fugitive. After eons of service at the TVA, during which she formed a close friendship with Mobius M. Mobius, she was promoted to preside as a judge. Working for the TVA, Renslayer sentenced a Loki variant who breached the Sacred Timeline to be pruned. However, Mobius convinced her to get Loki as the TVA's consultant to hunt down Sylvie, although the case started to unravel the truth behind the TVA. Renslayer pushed to protect the TVA, even turning against Mobius, sending both him and Loki to the Void. When Mobius came back and tried to bring the TVA down, Renslayer stopped him and left to search for her own free will.

My headcanons for the rest of Ravonna Renslayer / Rebecca Tourminet's backstory

Canon: The only thing confirmed by the Loki Series is that Ravonna's real name is Rebecca Tourminet and that she used to be the vice principal of a high school.

My headcanons: In her reality Ravonna / Rebecca was married to a benign variant of Kang (Nathaniel Richards) with whom she had a child. She was happy and satisfied with her life, but sadly one day her husband and son lost their lives in a traffic accident caused by a drunk driver. After a few months she managed to pull herself together despite her pain and in 2018 she was kidnapped by He Who Remains who suppressed her memories and gave her the identity of Ravonna Lexus Renslayer.
