ok so there’s a new disney movie coming out and ofc people are already complaining. I myself don’t care too much for the movie but people are RIDICULOUS. i don’t know why they’re talking about disneys art style being “the same” but that’s kinda the point in having a distinguished style? A lot of other companies have copied this style so people find it basic now but disney were who popularized it it’s their signature thing. The large eyes, etc have always been characteristic since the little mermaid. People claim the 3D are style is the same but lets compare frozen to raya or moana to encanto…. They have the same ELEMENTS of the art style but they don’t look the same. I am begging people on tiktok to look up what a characteristic is because the constant hating on 3D animation isn’t cute. Fine to have preferences but don’t call it “lazy” because people put so much work into it. And yes disney used to struggle with same face syndrome but it’s moved away from that. Raya and encanto are great examples of female characters with very different distinct features while keeping the common art style. I’m so fed up of people constantly shitting on 3D animation. If you prefer the 2D movies they still exist go watch them instead.

maybe it’s bc the idea of raya being evil is ✨exciting✨ but I can’t stop thinking about an au where fang betrays heart and the druun return and all that but instead of running away, raya stays in heart after her father (and countless others) are turned to stone and becomes the chief. like maybe the bridge gets destroyed in all the chaos that ensues and the remaining people of heart are trapped on the island, but they’re protected from the druun now (obviously haven’t thought of the logistics), kinda like fang with their artificial canal. benja is still turned to stone, leaving a 12 year old raya devastated and suddenly in charge of an entire land, plus the aftermath of the druun. 

because of the weight on her shoulders at so young an age, she goes from this energetic and slightly chaotic child to a hardened, bitter young chief seeking revenge. she goes against everything her father taught her, and heart goes from a lavish and bountiful land to near-ruin and collapse to a formidable land that you don’t want to mess with. in an effort to destroy the druun and make sure no one else gets hurt bc of her mistake of trusting a stranger, she makes heart everyone’s feared enemy and develops a reputation of being the most fearsome and successful chief heart’s ever had, which is even more impressive considering her young age. she’s fiercely protective over her people and adores them but is also strict with them. no one is to leave without first getting her permission, no one is to enter without her knowledge and consent, she enforces a curfew, things like that. overall she takes care of them and treats them well, so they’re loyal to her. her cruelty only extends to the other lands and anyone who wrongs her. 

heart manages to recover from the druun and become even more prosperous than before the druun came. the other lands, while scared of heart, of course want a piece of this, but raya refuses most trade agreements unless absolutely necessary. fang’s the only land who never tries to trade with heart, and for good reason. raya’s never tried anything against them, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be cautious and stay clear of heart’s territory. heart has a huge army and weaponry, both made larger and more powerful with Raya’s efforts—no one wants to mess with her. 

but eventually, fang needs something that only heart can offer. think of how they struggle just in the movie with land. there are no doubt countless other things they’re struggling with. they have no choice but to reach out to heart for aid when raya’s around 18-20, prompting her to pay them a visit—a visit that includes not just her but her advisors, attendants, and some of her finest soldiers. she wants to make it known from the moment they cross into fang territory that she has the upper hand here, and she won’t hesitate to strike them down. it’s a blatant power move and chief virana knows it, but she welcomes raya to stay as long as she likes nonetheless.

raya’s also worried out of her mind because she hasn’t seen namaari since that fateful day, and she doesn’t want to be perceived as some weak chief. she blames herself for.trusting namaari and doesn’t want namaari to think she’s the same naive little girl she used to be. namaari is also nervous for this meeting for obvious reasons—she holds a shit ton of guilt for what she did to raya, not to mention that she’s harbored a crush for her ever since they first met (another thing she’s guilty for bc it’s wrong to have feelings for the person you betrayed). 

anyway I have a lot of thoughts on this lmao, like virana and namaari being surprised at this new chief, bc despite the reputation, both still picture her as the girl they tricked; raya being very callous and cold while virana and namaari try to negotiate with her, then namaari later seeing raya’s guard fall (evidence of her crying, being warm and generous with her attendants, smiling while with tuk tuk, etc) and realizing that the real raya is still in there; namaari trying to make things right between them and raya rejecting her over and over again bc she believes it to be another trick—until she realizes it isn’t when namaari suggests they work together to bring back Sisu so she can fix the dragon gem...etc👀

You know that trope in so many kids shows where one episode revolves around a character who refuses to eat something even tho they usually haven't tried it before, and everyone else tries to convince them to try it, until they relent and decide that they like said food?

Well, kid me used to despise these episodes (and I still feel iffy about them to this day); as someone who was (and still is!) a "picky eater", I took these kinds of episodes as a personal attack, bc I could/can usually tell what I will/won't like based on smell and texture (ye typical autistic stuff), and these episodes felt to me as if they were pointedly discrediting my daily game of "try not to puke".

I understand that there is a difference between not judging anything without trying it (which is a typical kid thing; I have definitely been guilty of that), and being forced to eat something which you can sense that you will despise. But little me didn't see the difference back then, so yeah.

(I think some of that ire was directed at an episode of the French cartoon Petit Potam, that I grew up with, in which the titular character complains about eating certain stuff for lunch (including but not limited to Brussels sprouts), because he'd rather eat his favorite dessert, and his parents are constantly ordering him angrily to clear his plate. At one point, he does put a bunch of Brussels sprouts in his mouth and complains about not liking it as he chews, and eventually spits everything on someone who happens to be visiting, and is grounded for it. But the thing is, by the end of the episode I don't think the main character decides on whether or not he's willing to eat "disgusting food" or whatever (or if it does, it's very vague to me), so I find it very intriguing now that I'm thinking about it.)

I wanna do something that subverts this trope in a way; a character says they don't want to try some food bc they're repulsed by the smell and/or texture. Everyone else around them insists that they just tRY iT, and they relent. About a minute after the character in question swallows a portion of said food (which they still don't like), they start feeling queasy, and then they puke everything out. Sometimes our stomach simply does not agree; it's in our DNA.

It's mind-blowing to me that some ADULT people are apparently still not aware of the difference between two situations I talked about earlier (being fussy for the sake of being fussy VS having actual sensory issues when it comes to food), bc I'm still in the process of de-conditioning myself from the vague notion that these shows instilled in me being a picky eater/not liking many foods/not always being willing to try new foods makes me a bad person of some sort (obviously they never say that outright, but it felt this way to me all the same), and from what I've seen, many autistic/neurodivergent people are having this same issue.

so I had a lot of self esteem problems when I was younger and I don't want to talk about those directly but I do wanna tell you about a dream I had during it

(just for a little context I relied heavily on certain things about me and individuality like in this case it was my haircut a pixie cut)

I was wandering a mall during the day with my family and at one point they left me with this Spanish lady who didn't speak very much English but she took me to a salon and told me I could dye my hair, so I choose blue but for some reason it didn't dye it but grew my hair back to its regular long length which put me in panic mode because I was that chubby little girl with dopey long hair again and no matter how much a begged the lady to fix it she wouldn't talk and I was dragged out by my ear by the lady and thrown outside.

raya 🥺 i am so sorry you had to go through that. self esteem issues are so hard to get through/deal with, and man having a dream that just plays on those issues is so mean of your psyche :((.

The absolute DISRESPECT for the FIRST ANIMATED MOVIE EVER MADE and its female character who was strong in her own way! Snow White was an abused CHILD who was isolated within her castle and then suddenly thrown into the  woods and she managed to survive using only her hope and kindness!!! She found a house and offered to work to earn her keep and she DID!!! Snow does not have to be a badass to be a strong female character. And more importantly, SHE DOES NOT NEED TO BE "BADASS" TO DESERVE HER HAPPY ENDING. Some of us in abusive situations CANNOT escape on our own. Women don't have to be badasses in order to be strong female characters. So she needs to be saved-- so WHAT? Badass Snow White reboots are fine in moderation, but just like Girlboss Cinderella reboots, too many and it becomes clear what society is trying to say now- that if you're feminine and can't fight a battle, you don't deserve to be saved. Man this hits hard. I've never seen how I met your mother but the parallels in the basketball hoop scene and Dick's talk with Bruce are uncanny.

The thing I think is weird about Dick and Bruce's relationship is that it's steeped in insecurities for each other. Dick feels hurt and betrayed and lost as to why Bruce would take in a new robin so suddenly and Bruce's tenure as Dick's robin is riddled with insecurities about him not being a good enough partner.

The difference between Barney and his dad, from what I gather from the clip, is that his dad never acted like one to Barney.

But with Dick and Bruce? Bruce was a good dad to Dick. But he was a terrible partner. Bruce treated Dick like an equal while still fielding reservations about his age and dealing with his own insecurities. Bruce knows that what he's doing is not right but at the same time Dick is far too competent. His intelligence, his athletic skills, his compassion, and his fearlessness were light years beyond anyone Bruce had ever met and Bruce acklnowledges this.

Bruce's biggest problem with Dick is literally that he talks to much.

Dick is equal in every way to Batman and even exceeds him in some ways when he was Robin itself. So Bruce pushes the responsibilities of Batman's partner on to Dick while treating his as his son, mother, therapist, and partner. And Dick steps up to that. Soon they fall into a rhythm where Dick is Bruce's one for all human interaction. So imagine when you have a constant thing with someone that you're comfortable with and they suddenly start holding back from you. They begin talking about how you're too young to handle adult responsibilities. How you shouldn't be facing that burden. Now you're confused. Those responsibilities they are criticizing you for are the very ones that depended on you for. So now you start doubting yourself and trying harder and harder to make them see that you can handle the job. While you're struggling with confusion, they're struggling with guilt.

That is Bruce and Dick's relationship. Bruce grew a conscious after 10 years and Dick can't understand it. So there comes the self-blame and strife.

What Dick doesn't understand his Bruce feels guilty of his over reliance on Dick. Dick's self-blame has come to such a point that now even when Bruce in full honesty rants about how proud he is of Dick, Dick holds reservations because if Bruce was really proud then he would dump all the responsibilities on him right?

It's really messed up.

AITA for not talking to my childhood friend after she falsely accused me of trash talking her?

I (16F) have been friends with Jane (16F) since 4th grade. We've been pretty close, and even our moms have been good friends.

Now, Jane has had some bad experiences with past friendships which causes her to automatically assume the worst in people and misinterpret what people say to her. This only increased over covid when we briefly lost touch due to online schooling and our classes being shuffled. She was medically diagnosed with anxiety last year as well.

This year, I've already heard a shit ton of rants about my other friends and how everyone is mean to her. This seems a little exaggerated to me, but I never tell her so and instead always patiently hear her out. I try to be supportive, but sometimes the things she tells me sound outright ridiculous.

An example of this is an experience she supposedly had with my friend Raya (16F) who is also in our class. According to her, Raya challenged her friendship with me and passed mean comments about her. This seemed quite out of character to me since Raya is a total introvert and struggles to make conversation with anyone, let alone bullying people. (I later learnt she actually brought the topic of our friendship up to strike conversation with Jane and try to befriend her since I am their common link)

All of these accounts on Jane's part felt suspicious to me, which I did not express, but left alone, knowing she was probably just misinterpreting others' words. However, I did often wonder if Jane ever made up such incidents about me and shared them with any of her other close friends. This was another sentiment I ignored.

Recently, I came back home to a very angry mother. Upon asking why she was mad, I found out that Jane had cried to her mom after school saying that she overheard me say mean things about her to my classmates. I had not done any such thing, so I obviously denied the allegations.

When I asked what exactly I had done, details were given to me sparingly. Not only was I unaware of what I said to cause such a reaction in Jane, but also she had posted about it online. Though she had not taken my name in the posts, I felt very attacked considering the circumstances.

My mother kept insisting I go talk to her, but I found it unreasonable to "patch up things with her" when I had never done anything wrong to begin with. I'm kept in the dark about whatever possible misunderstanding could've happened and I'm just supposed to go talk about it when she didn't have the guts to even specify what I did?

I didn't talk to her for around 5 days following this incident. Today Jane came up to me trying to "get over it" saying she missed me, still refusing to tell me what I'd even done. I've acted friendly so far, and I've tried to cooperate with her mental issues, but this whole situation is making me rethink our friendship. She's pretending that nothing happened, but the whole ordeal makes me wanna distance myself from her.

Sorry if I missed any details, it's a quarter past midnight and I am very sleep deprived.

headcanon that namaari has horrendous people skills. she can give the most inspiring speech of the century or command an entire army with an iron fist or politely talk (or argue) with diplomats on important matters without stuttering or tripping over her words, but the moment she’s placed in an unrehearsed social situation? she’s a mess. she’s so socially awkward and quiet outside of her princess duties and is honestly not a huge people person because of it. they probably exhaust her, so she prefers to spend her free time somewhere she can be alone. she probably doesn’t have many friends because of it, but the few she does are genuine, and she’s the most caring friend in the world. one of the only social things that she’s good at is flirting, ironically, but even that’s rehearsed because she’s a dork that doesn’t want to mess up when asking out a pretty girl.

so, you know, when she makes an immediate friendship with a complete stranger from heart of all places, it haunts her for years because even though she had to betray said stranger, every single interaction they had together was genuine, and namaari had never made such a fast friendship with anyone before. not a day goes by that namaari wishes the world could’ve been different so that their friendship could’ve made it.

I think the fact i adore the most about her is that "Carian" is actually language! Its one of the sub languages that belong to the three of Anatolian Languages, as well as Romance languages are understood to be French, Iitalian, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian, Anatolian Languages encapsule Hittite, Luvian, Carian, Hieroglyphic Luwian, and Palaic!

Carians too were habitants of Anatolia (minor asia) current western asia! Many erudits used the greek phonetics to decipher Carian but in truly they are not the same language so the current translations are probably mistaken, i think accurate enough to be understood, but most still far from their actual true meaning.

Also the mistranslations in the name of the academy! In english we know it as "Raya Lucaria" as the original japanese is "魔術学院レアルカリア" , which means smt like " Magic Academy of the Real Caria" with "Real" being pronounced in Madrid Spanish, so a better approach would be "Royal Carian Academy"

Another cool hc is that i feel her hair is also loyal to her culture, very intrincate and complex braids to tie up her hair, once i made some explorations but nothing too srsn gughug, best example i think would be Alicent's hairstyle in hotd, but def a hairstyle that is extremely hard to achieve alone.

About the usual long hair i always do on her, its mostly leaning to the aspects of feminity the moon entity presents in almost all cultures, since Carians too where known to be in minor Asia, i also took a bit from there, moon goddesses throughout Asia are always depicted with long hair as a sign of divinity, like Chang'e from China for example! -the short answer is that i just adore it-

You ever get mad or just so goddamn baffled that a fandom product/character/story/game/show/movie gets so overpopular, loads of attention and stays prominent everywhere despite it being less than a year old, a cashgrab or bait of some kind and/or a huge fucking ripoff of other properties?

While fandoms products that are a lot more worthy of obsession due to the quality and great character and story crafting and have been around for longer either get too little attention or are forgotten about too quickly. Amazing things like Bendy and the dark revival, the property of hate webcomic, the cuphead show, 101 dalmatian street, league of superpets, raya and the last dragon, monster crown, temtem.

Sick of seeing it happen over the last 3 or 4 years or so. The only explanation is people only care for edgy lore bait or sexualization in fandom now a days. Some of the stupid shit these people say, create and get up to would make the fnaf plus undertale fandom rude asswipes or character lewders blush. I also wish shit that was cheap and soulless stopped getting celebrated.

I can't say what fandoms I'm referring to without getting shot and thrown in a hole...

Do people not care about real art, storytelling, quality characters or game experiences anymore???

Sorry for the rant. So very frustrated. I want my passion fandoms and artists to get the appreciation they deserve so they can keep going or growing. I want fandom spaces to stop getting uglier and uglier every goddamn year.
