HBL becomes the only bank with a branch in Gwadar and China
According to latest brand updates, the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) has opened its branch in the Gwadar Free Zone, marking itself as the first and only bank to have a branch in Gwadar as well as China.
The branch was inaugurated by the Ambassador of China to Pakistan, Yao Jing, along with Zhang Baozhong, Chairman China Overseas Port Holding Company Ltd. and Rayomond Kotwal, Acting President and CEO, HBL on Monday.
Speaking at the occasion, Kotwal stated: “Today HBL stands proud as it becomes the first bank with branches in Gwadar as well as China. We are honored to be playing a leading role in supporting the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, opening new avenues of business, trade and investment between the two countries.”
The bank offers a comprehensive product range covering corporate and individual customers, including financing, trade based facilities, guarantees, remittances, loans, debit and credit cards and much more. HBL’s target market is not just limited to customers in Pakistan and China but it aims to market CPEC opportunities across borders using its international reach and customer base.

New interim CEO takes charge of HBL
Rayomond Kotwal has assumed charge of acting chief executive officer Habib Bank Limited after the retirement of CEO/President Nauman K Dar’s .
“Kotwal has received…clearance from the State Bank of Pakistan (regulator),” HBL Company Secretary Nausheen Ahmad said in a notification to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Monday.
A prior notification said “until a formal appointment has been made, Rayomond H Kotwal, HBL’s current CFO (Chief Financial Officer), will be officiating as the interim CEO.”
Mr. Kotwal is the Chief Financial Officer of the bank who will now serve as the acting/interim CEO.
Rayomond Kotwal has over 30 years of experience, he has worked in senior Finance roles with United Bank Limited, NIB Bank Limited, Citibank NA, Citi Cards Canada Inc. and ICI Pakistan Limited.

Nauman Dar to retire as President, CEO of HBL from December 2017
According to latest updates, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) has announced the joining of former State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) governor Salim Raza as Director on HBL board. As per a statement issued by HBL Secretary Nausheen Ahmad, the bank has also appointed Sagheer Mufti as its Chief Operating Officer (COO).
The press release states that currebt President & CEO Nauman Dar will retire from December 31, 2017 after serving for 15 years as the premier bank of Pakistan.
Until a formal appointment has been made, Rayomond Kotwal, HBL’s current Chief Financial Officer, will be officiating as the interim CEO. In the meanwhile, the bank has further appointed Syed Salim Raza as Director on the Board of HBL.
The HBL press statement further says, “Mr. Raza is an accomplished banker, having served in senior positions in Citibank N.A, both in Pakistan and globally. As a former Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Mr. Raza brings extensive experience and knowledge of the banking industry as well as regulatory frameworks and will add great depth to the Board.”
According to the bank, Sagheer Mufti has been appointed as COO—a new position established by the HBL Board.
Furthermore, HBL has appointed Nassir Salim as its Head of Global Operations with effect from December 18, 2017.
The bank also appointed Nauman Riaz as Chief Compliance Officer. He has 23 years of experience with Citi. Lastly, he was the EMEA Director for Operational Risk/Enterprise Risk Management for Corporate, Investment & Retail Business.
