Subaru not being an aggressively masculine straight boy isekai protagonist is so precious to me. The way he admires Emilia's outfits and hairdos and told her she could opt out of their first kiss, the way he's good with kids and loves small animals, the way he isn't petrified of things that might make other people question his manliness – he does have some toxic traits he's needed to work through that could be tied to gender ideals, but truly the ingredients for a wholesome man are all here.

Also he's bisexual and we love that.

Fourier never appeared in the main series, but man, he's actually really funny. Absolutely like Subaru in his behavior but less cringe that stems from realism and second-hand embarrassment. Just friends being friends

Since I got my hands on that EX novel, I'm gonna pitch some moments of him so he's at least remembered if his name is brought up. I'll include some pictures for reference, and won't include the whole thing to avoid spoilers

1. This one can be found on the wiki as is: he fell in love with Crusch at first sight, but the moment she saw him, she threatened him with a knife in his own house—she then proceeded to almost attempt suicide for her mistake

2. He's so much like Subaru. He's loud, brash, in love with a girl at first sight, has small worries that he blows out of proportion unless they're absolutely important and life-changing like impending death, falls to his knees in anime-style sulking when told he's not as manly/strong as he wants to be to the girl he likes...

3. After seeing Crusch, you see how there's a guy chasing him in the first picture? That's his tutor. Fourier proceeded to slap him in the face ("MY EYE!!" screamed in comical fashion), drag him down a hall, and make him hit his head on every column and wall in existence

4. In the second picture, where Crusch holds a dagger, Fourier backtracks over it a lot like Subaru would

Fourier: Who would give their daughter a dagger on their birthday? They've no sense.

Crusch: Your Highness, I asked for this dagger from my father as a gift that day.

Fourier: Yep! Your father's the most sensible man ever! Daggers, wonderful gifts to young girls, they are!

5. That illustration of him and Crusch in a sword fight? He did that so Crusch would wear a dress.

Crusch sees him about to fall over like a shaking fawn, pathetic with trembling legs and supporting himself on his sword. He's exhausted and wanting to pass out or cry, and Crusch is like "Should we stop?"

And Fourier is all "NO!" and charges in with war cries the entire time.

"YAAAAAHHHH! CRUUUSCH! WEAR A DRESSS!!!"

I crap not, that's all he shouted, and it kinda scared Crusch.

"Wear makeup! Like flowers! Wear jewelry! Show me that beautiful smileeee!!! Uwaaaaaa!!!"

That's his motivation. It's hilarious and also sad, because he knows he probably hurt Crusch a lot for not letting her wear dresses. He's so exhausted by the end of it that he literally passes out on the ground after Crusch cedes it's her defeat

6. He didn't know Ferris was a boy. So when he had Ferris pose as his fiancee after Crusch couldn't so he could turn down his marriage prospect,

He did so, thinking Ferris was a girl. He only found out afterwards.

Also, before they actually went through with the plan, Fourier was raring to pretend being Crusch's lover, and getting all flustered at the idea. Imagine servant Subaru being all blushy over going on a date with Emilia and wiggling around. Not very different

"M-Me... and Crusch..!!"

"Compose yourself, my prince!"

7. The castle rumored that Fourier was gay, because he declared he loved Ferris, no matter his gender.

"As long as you're you..!"

Which is really sweet (how Fourier loves him). Still, Ferris worried he hated him after the reveal.

Ferris and Crusch are discussing this new rumor as Ferris is afraid of confronting Fourier after he learned he was a male... then His Highness comes barreling in, basically screaming and crying

"Crusch! Ferris! It's horrible, oh so horrible! I need you two now through the worst struggle of my life! Where are my two trusted people?!"

Because he literally just heard the rumor himself.

I think he was afraid that Crusch wouldn't love him if she thought he was batting for the other team, and that's why he stressed over the rumor? He also feared Crusch not liking him if he got fat

He's so fricken funny and this is just from me skimming the book. I haven't sat down to read it through, but just by skimming, Fourier and Subaru behave so similarly that it's just- my gosh.

Do Ferris and Crusch look at Subaru and think of the prince? When Subaru shouted and disrupted the Royal Selection gathering, and Julius probably saw Joshua, did those two see Fourier?

Granted, Fourier is more wise and composed than Subaru, and probably would've been more graceful about his interruptions, but the shouting of what he wants and thinks when riled up? The "wisdom" (knowledge) that comes out of nowhere, which both Fourier and Subaru have? (Fourier from instinct, Subaru from Return By Death)

Fourier wanted so badly to let Crusch be a woman, and fawned over her beauty and just wanted her to enjoy typical things of women. Subaru kicks his blanket like it's personally assaulting him, just thinking of multiple Emilias as he tries to sleep, and isn't afraid of showing his affection throughout the entire series

On the point of affection, neither of them are afraid of showing it to people they care about. Subaru braids hair, plays with kids, compliments outfits and smiles, Fourier hugs and tells his dreams of futures with his friends and has dances with them, etc.

(They even have the penchant of acting like things are fine to Julius by not telling him anything before they literally collapse in front of him [Fourier in a carriage, Subaru being possessed], leaving Julius to deal with them when things go south)

(On that note, it's sweet that Julius always calls for Ferris when someone is hurting, because he knows who can help best)

Anyway, Fourier? Funny kid. Resembles Subaru. Parallels can probably be drawn from them. Is important to the development of Crusch and Ferris, so it's not bad to remember him. The history of the royal family should come into play when regarding the Archbishop of Lust and Felt, too.

(as always with Midst stuff please do not reveal anything from beyond what has aired on the main feed)

Saving the character stuff of this episode for another post, but everything about the Breach operation on Midst that's come up recently feels...not quite cohesive. Specifically, it feels like different higher-ups in the Upper Trust had different ideas of what was going on. Costigan is under the impression that they knew about Breach from Ginsberg's arraignment, which presumably Spahr attended (and possibly presided over). Now, Imelda could be playing Weepe regarding his reveal of the Breach operation, and already knew; but the first mission she sent Phineas on was about Fuze's letter, not Breach. Meanwhile, Phineas didn't seem aware of the Breach operation at all until after the sale of Midst and well after he'd interrogated Tzila. She also, in Oversight, says that Weepe provided key information. Which on the one hand he did; Ginsberg probably didn't know much. On the other hand, it's not like...a big place, and they probably would have figured it out within a week.

Another weird point is Fleit Sr, who seems shocked in Oversight that Jonas brings up Phineas's behavior in the raid and the Maximilan Loxlee case, even though his reason for being present is tied to Breach. And, of course, there's Kozma's admission in the previous episode, which frankly makes more sense if she knew the Trust knew about Breach - get them there and scare them off - but why is the Company not pursuing it at all anymore when they have all the information?

Since he woke on the Nautiloid, words have been difficult for Rune. Perhaps it’s the head-trauma and the parasite burrowing into his brain, or perhaps he’s always been a lumpen-tongued creature, unable to translate thought to coherent speech. So far he’s scraped by, bludgeoning his way through conversations like a back-alley boxer, bare-knuckled and brutal, but now he finds himself in need of more than a fistful of words.

Astarion gives him a headache with all the thoughts he can’t get from one side of his scarred skull to the other. Compliments and pet names and assurances flow from his—partner? bedmate? lover? friend?—companion like wine. Rune skips being drunk on it and goes straight to the hangover, unable to reciprocate. It’s infuriating. He killed a fucking orthon, why are a few affectionate words so damn difficult?

There are other ways to speak. Pictures say a thousand words, or so it goes. Items can be your voice, say what you can’t. Rune’s no painter, but he knows what Astarion enjoys.

His gut churns as he crosses the camp, his unspeakable words clasped in a clammy fist behind his back. Astarion glances up from his book, smile half-shadowed in the firelight. It makes him look Rune’s favourite kind of dangerous; a night-predator, eyes aglint and aglow.

“Need something?” he asks, setting his book aside, then blinks at the object Rune drops into his lap. “What’s this?”

“Affection,” Rune says. Astarion snorts a laugh.

“Darling, this is a knife. It still has blood on it.”

“You like knives. And blood.”

The snort becomes a full-bodied laugh, head thrown back, mouth wide enough to show red tongue, white fangs. The hollow core of Rune’s head turns in on itself, growling to cover the whimper of humiliation. Go somewhere dark, cut something open and crawl inside, this never happened, this never happened, this never happened. He starts to turn away—Astarion leaps up and catches his wrist.

“You’re right,” he says. “I do like knives. And blood.” Hesitation. “And you.”

Rune swallows. “I want to say things. To you. And I can’t.”

“Thus the knife.”

Astarion examines it for a moment, considering, then tosses it aside. It hits his discarded book and thumps off the cover—the sound reverberates in Rune’s head, but before it can crescendo to murderous levels of anguish, Astarion takes his face in both hands.

“Don’t worry so much about saying things, sweetheart.”

He pulls Rune into a kiss, and Rune grips his waist tight, holding him close. There’s a knot just left of his heart, a tangled, bloody skein of firelit eyes, the white arch of a brow, the shift of weight before the throw of a knife; of skin pale as bone and soft as silk, a sharp laugh and sharper teeth; of need and want and fear sunk in like claws.

Astarion draws back.

“I hear you,” he says. Taps Rune’s temple. “And even without these little go-betweens, you’re loud enough.” He puts his palm to Rune’s chest, over his heart. “I hear you, love.”

The knot unravels ever so slightly. Rune lays his hand over Astarion’s.

“So no knives?”

Astarion grins. “Well, I’ll never say no to a decent blade. I do so enjoy a good stabbing.”

Rune barks a laugh, and lets his vampire drag him into their tent, where they speak without words until the sun comes up.

I love minekata because Y3 has trained you to expect a complete disaster. every time he's on-camera in ishin, you're just waiting for the other shoe to drop. obviously the guy is gonna go from "approximately as hinged as everyone else in the shinsengumi, maybe more hinged than okita" to "gives ryoma izo's head in a bag and then burns down his farm-level unhinged," you think - but it never happens! the guy is one of your closest allies to the very end! best use of a cameo character in the whole game imo. love him dearly

No matter how much that report looks as detailed as a fucking mosaic, it still doesn't describe half of what I went through in that fucking backwater ditchhole in the ass crack of europe.

Ahahaha... so there's a part of me that hates Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (not to rain on anyone's parade here. And I don't hate the game, overall. Most of it I love, in fact. And I might be being kinder if I had slept at all last night, among other things. So take some of this with a grain of salt).

But I kind of feared that there would be elements I didn't like, when I watched the trailers, because there's just so much in the game... it's overwhelming for me. I know for most people this is a good thing, but for me with my massive anxiety, it's too much. And I do hate when it takes you away from the main story for too long. Or if you are doing the main story, you somehow almost feel guilty for not doing more side things.

I felt kind of vindicated today when I saw someone mentioning that they did think that there are too many mini-games in the game, and that they're too distracting from the main story.

But really grinded my gears today, was Queen's Blood: I actually enjoy Queen's Blood when I can choose to play it myself. But they had the audacity to make it part of the main story (and this won't be the last time, I don't think!). Ugh! I hate when games choose to make a mini-game required to progress with the main story! And you don't have to play it once in this one section, but five times! And you have to win every single time! I can't even- flames. Flames on the side of my face.

Also, I do kind of feel like some parts they replicated here from the OG are too drawn out, just to be drawn out (they did this in Remake, too), and it can be annoying.

But, anyway.

Edit: Yeah, really take this with a grain of salt, guys. I wrote this right before getting the flu, so I think that's partly why I was maybe more cranky about this kind of stuff than I usually would have been: I was really starting to not feel well while playing this night.
