"I'm ever so grateful to Taylor for creating the impetus to make it happen," he tells ABC Audio. "Because I thought, 'Well, now, if she can do it, I should do it, too.' And so I got started on a couple of tracks and they turned out really good. And so I just kept going."
"It's very much about Taylor's empowerment of artists and her sort of championing the artist," he adds. "And I love that she's done that ... I think a lot of artists should do the same."
Bryan Adams on how Taylor Swift motivated him to rerecord his old music

The Beginnings: 2013-2014 (Bandcamp Exclusive)
High school is so formative. It’s an emotional roller coaster. I was still trying to process 2012, but I was also having some of the best experiences of my life and dealing with friendship drama and planning for (and starting) my future. It all gave me some great songwriting fodder. I feel like you can hear the maturity in some of these lyrics compared to the songs I wrote in 2012. They were so fun to re-record!
I Hate Myself (For Loving You) was me realizing “The Last Song” from 2012 would never be the last song. Not even close. But it was also me realizing that time would eventually help me out and get me over the heartbreak. Hence the bridge and last chorus!
Break My Broken Heart stemmed from one of many high school parties that all played out the same way. All of them. I knew I wasn’t over what I was dealing with, so I was trying to be extra careful with my heart, even if it meant denying myself what I thought I wanted at the time.
Can’t Hold Back absolutely happened because I used the phrase “footloose and fancy free” in my Tumblr name. I was in the midst of an obsession with ‘80s movies and music. Footloose actually still hasn’t left me (the song or the film).
Never Again, like “Break My Broken Heart,” was the result of a high school party, but a night where I was a little less careful with my heart. It happens!
I’m on My Way was my way of expressing the pure joy I felt in the summer of 2013. Fresh off a second breakup, which was significantly less messy than the first, I took my first trip to New York. Everything was perfect.
Found was probably the first time I wrote about a friend’s relationship and heartbreak instead of my own. (I also did this with Record High, which I released in early 2022.)
That Much clearly shows how conflicted I was when the summer ended and I went back to school. It’s much easier to move on from complicated feelings when you don’t have to see people every day, but it gets a little more confusing when you share hallways and classrooms.
Just a Memory is the epitome of “I’m so sick of still grieving a relationship that ended forever ago; come on brain, let’s get over it!” This was also one of the first songs that made me feel like I was capable of writing country music.
You’re Not Alone was me writing the words I wished someone would say to me. Senior year of high school was anxiety-filled for me; everything was about to change and I was losing friends. Let’s just say it was a bad time!
LC (The Day I Got Away) was written months before “the day I got away.” I placed myself years in the future and reflected on my years in high school and how I felt about it. I don’t know if it was supposed to bring me comfort and make it easier to leave, but I’ve never felt the need to write another song about leaving high school; years later, I still believe 17-year-old Emily nailed it.
Don’t Get to Get to Me is the third song in an accidental trilogy. “Break My Broken Heart,” “Never Again,” and this song tell the same story, but about different nights. I promise I eventually saw the pattern and broke it!
When You’re Drunk was one of the first songs I wrote after moving away for school, but it wasn’t about anyone I met at school. It sounds so much worse than it was, but this person didn’t live near me, and essentially they would only text me when they were drinking.

When I think back on the Fearless album and all that you turned it into, a completely involuntary smile creeps across my face. This was the musical era in which so many inside jokes were created between us, so many hugs exchanged and hands touched, so many unbreakable bonds formed. So before I say anything else, let me just say that it was a real honor to get to be a teenager alongside you. And for those of you I've come to know more recently than 2008, I am ecstatic that I'll get to experience a bit of that feeling with you in the very near future. Now that I can fully appreciate it in its whimsical, effervescent, chaotic entirety.
Fearless was an album full of magic and curiosity, the bliss and devastation of youth. It was the diary of the adventures and explorations of a teenage girl who was learning tiny lessons with every new crack in the facade of the faIrytale ending she'd been shown in the movies.
Fearless (Taylor's Version) - April 9, 2021

Wait, what’s going on with Embers???? That fic has been on my read later list since 2021, what’s happened with it???
Brief overview, then I'm likely never touching this topic again, because this is not a Drama Blog:
Context: Embers is a super old AtLA fic that was written during the early fandom days, read widely at the time, and was the origin of the widely-used fanon name of "Wani" for Zuko's ship (kind of by default that it was one of the first popular fics to give his ship a name, I think?), even though most fic writers don't seem to realize it's from there anymore.
"What's Going On": I used to include a link in all my stories to it, because I believe in crediting other writers for borrowed elements, and I was using "Wani" in all my fics. But BOY did I not want to be sending readers that way anymore, so I've adopted a new name for Zuko's ship, and removed all Embers links.
None of the criticisms about Embers itself are new; I'm assuming they date back to when the fic was being written, because this isn't an "it aged badly" thing, this is an "actually yeah this gets worse the longer you think about it and I shouldn't have ignored my bad feelings just because some of the worldbuilding was interesting" thing.
An Incomplete List of Why I Made the Change:
I don't actually like the story that much anymore, and don't want to rec it
I tried to re-read it recently to see if some things were as bad as I remembered and it turns out they were So Much Worse Oh Yikes. More specifically, the treatment of Katara and Aang and their respective cultures has... rather a lot going on. One example: The Fire Nation and Air Nomads are both given multiple backstory elements in an attempt to make the average Fire Nation soldier's participation in the genocide/war in large part the fault of the Avatar and the Air Nomads themselves, and also fully justified from the Fire Nation perspective. And I do mean fully. One of its core tenants is "People from the Fire Nation (and only people from the Fire Nation) who don't follow orders Literally Die, therefore murdering pacifists and babies and continuing the war (and their regularly scheduled war crimes) is the only thing it is physically possible for them to do". I cannot emphasize enough how literal that is.
Also the name "Wani" means "Alligator" and is... objectively a pretty lame name for Zuko's ship? Where's the personality, where's the deeper meaning, where's the resonance with Zuko's themes? @tuktukpodfics initially thought I was calling the ship "Wanyi", and that's what I've switched to, because it is Objectively So Much Better. In their words: “Wànyī (萬一): Literally ‘one in ten thousand,’ ‘perchance.’ Used grammatically in Chinese to mean ‘what if’ or ‘just in case.’ I think a ship called ‘The Perchance’ is perfect for a boy clinging to false hope.”
TL:DR; I don't rec Embers anymore, because I don't actually like the story anymore, and there are things about it that get worse the more I think on them. I've removed links to it and renamed Zuko's ship to "Wanyi" ("The Perchance") because our boy deserves a ship name that reflects his character arc.

the teaser 1 year ago vs the final movie. holy shit dude.
like all of it really culminates and was adjusted to make miles and gwen more as equals.. miles' deepened voice, miles also using a spider web to try grabbing at the sketchbook instead of his hand,
Tumblr media
both of them standing on more equal footing,
Tumblr media
overall making miles a lot less "dopey". and clearly fond of gwen rather than being strung along.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also something really specific but they changed gwen tipping her head down to just widening her eyes which is so much more subtle character acting which I love tbh.
shes not telling him what to do next but she's waiting for a response.
Tumblr media
also just the fact they took the criticism of miles' hair and adjusted it from looser curls (3c/4A) to tighter, springy coils (4c) is so satisfying to see....

I want to draw your attention to the difference between the boys reading the book
You have Nick who's narrating the book softly like telling you a bed time story
youtube
Then there's Taylor who's full on acting the books out with all his eccentricities
youtube
And this is how you know you got your casting right
I love both them ❣️
