I just think that, on the off chance we don’t get a sab s3 or soc spin off, the actors should do an audio recording of the books. Like Jessie Mei Li reading the sab trilogy as Alina while the other actors read the lines of their respective characters, the crows reading their own respective chapters in the soc duology (again with the actors reading their own lines). Same thing with King of Scars!! It would obviously never happen bc the actors are probably super busy all the time but yk, I just think it’s fun to imagine

OCs that may or may not get developed soon
Tumblr media
Thumbelina / Elina Price
Series: Once Upon a Time
FC: Bonnie Wright
Thumbelina, briefly known as Eglantine, Lost Girl, Fairy of the North Star, and cursed as Elina Price.
The older sister of Rumplestiltskin. Thumbelina is based on the character of the same name from the fairytale. As well as Elina from the Barbie: Fairytopia movies. She also takes on the roles of Jane Darling and Eglantine Price.
Status: Likely won’t be made official any time soon. Due to me not having much interest in re watching OUAT
Tumblr media
The Tooth Fairy / Jaina Godewyn
Series: Once Upon a Time
FC: Amita Suman
The Tooth Fairy (born as Jaina) also know as The Memory Keeper, A Good Witch, and cursed as Jaina Godewyn.
Janina is based on the fantasy figure of the same name (with inspirations from the Rise of the Guardians movie). As well as Elphaba from Wicked. She takes on the roles of James P. Sullivan and Emelius Browne.
Status: Same reason as Elina
Tumblr media
Ines Spengler
Series: Ghostbusters
FC: Jamie Lee Curtis
One of the original Ghostbusters. She has doctorates in physics and biochemistry. Is the sister of Egon (but I think that goes without saying). Went out with Peter for a hot second, but later broke up with him.
Status: I wanna give her more characterization and decide on her love interest (janine or winston) before I make her official.
Tumblr media
Mari Pines
Series: Gravity Falls
FC: Edited young Mabel
I just kinda wanna write Dipper and Mabel as protective older siblings. I also wanna base her relationship with Stan on my own relationship with my Nan. She’s about 9 and likes music (mostly the trombone)
Status: If people wanna see a Gravity Falls OC I’ll be happy to develop her more.
Tag-list (Send me an ask if you wanna to be added or removed): @ocfairygodmother @aceyanaheim @honeyandsunflowers @anotherunreadblog @eddysocs @foxesandmagic @reggiemantleholdmyhand-tle @hughstheforcelou @lokitrasho

okay okay so. i have something i'm VERY curious about. why is amita suman considered a desi? i understand that desi people can come anywhere from the indian subcontinent but not everyone from there identify themselves as desi. amita is from nepal and unless she's actively identified herself as a desi, i think its kinda not right to call her a desi
I mean this is the definition of desi I use, I know for some folks it may be different:
Desi, pronounced as “They- See”, is a loose term for the cultures and products of South Asia and their diaspora, derived from the Ancient Sanskrit देश (deśá or deshi), meaning Land or Country. "Desi" countries include Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Re: the second point - I don't feel weird calling her desi bc ... I am one too? I picked that word bc it's a little more specific than "brown", which encompasses a much broader group and doesn't really narrow down where she is from (and desi generally refers to anyone from the Indian subcontinent). I think folks within our community are allowed to take that small liberty - at least whilst the status of her feelings on it are unconfirmed, but generally speaking, the term desi is a default and not usually seen as a bad thing, certainly not in the circles I've run in.
So in practice it's really the opposite of what you said -- most people identify as desi without it needing to be confirmed explicitly. And being called desi by accident is generally not seen as a bad-faith action but an accident, a use of a colloquial term without malicious intent.
If she were ever to come out and say she doesn't like the term, or does not identify as desi, I obviously would not call her that. There's not been any evidence of that one way or another. (In fact, her bio has a link to help India and she did a Grazia India shoot recently, so she's only shown positive external messaging towards the largest country the term is derived from/refers to).
However, for the time being, I think we are likely splitting hairs here. She is a brown woman from Nepal who is largely being referred to as desi by other desis. Unless she were to ever indicate otherwise, we are likely in the clear.

What i mean is, it's great that actors of color like Amita Suman are playing our favorite characters from the Grishaverse. It's great that Leigh Bardugo is happy for actors of color to appear in Shadow and Bone. It would have been nice if a Romani actor had been hired to play a Romani-coded character from a Romani-coded fictional culture.
As fans we have the power to demand that the media industry do better re: representation. I'm not Romani, and it's not up to me to get mad on behalf of all Roma when a Romani-coded character is played by a South Asian woman (btw, the Roma are genetically descended from people who left India centuries ago, and, due to their travels all over the world, they come in all shapes, sizes, and skin tones with a variety of cultural practices, some of which correlate to South Asian cultures).
It's also important to remember that the Grishaverse is fictional. Ravka's not Russia, Kerch is not the Netherlands, and Leigh is drawing inspiration from a diverse array of cultures and histories to build a fictional world. It's important to remember that when readers get upset that Leigh "didn't do Russian names right," or, "Leigh got Amsterdam wrong." She made Ravkan names. They work how they work. She mapped entire countries, designed cultures that mirror our own, with all their virtues and faults.
By which I mean, try using your imagination, instead of getting mad on behalf of the Eurasian landmass's diverse collection of peoples who all want and need different things, and who are not a monolith.

Representation in Shadow & Bone
I’ve seen a lot of people discussing the representation and diversity of the Shadow & Bone series on Netflix- What people thought was well done, what they thought was bad, what they thought had potential but fell very sadly short, etc
I’ve found a lot of value in those discussions (especially when led by ibpoc people) and I think people have touched on a variety of important topcis-
But I don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention that the Suli are based off Romani people?
(very possible that I am just not seeing those convos, ill admit)
i know that technically none of the nationalities or cultural/ethnic groups in the books are direct correlations to real world identities but..... especially after Rule of Wolves, I think it was pretty clear that the Suli are based off Roma people
(whether or not they are accurate or good representation is a different story BUT)
And as far as I can find out, neither Amita Suman nor Sujaya Dasgupta are Roma. They are both excellent actresses and so far as I can tell they havent made any antiziganist statements (the bar is so low yikes) but this could have been such a great opportunity to feature Roma actresses!
i also follow people in the Marvel fandom so I’ve seen quite a few people discussing their disappointment with Marvel/Disney’s continued refusal to recognize the Maximoffs twins as being Roma and Elizabeth Olsen’s antizignist comments, so its just weird for me to not hear anything about it re: shadow and bone??
maybe its because scarlet witch and quicksilver are already pretty well known Roma characters (thanks to the mcu machine i would say they are probably the ones with the most pop culture ‘screen time’ in the most recent years.... tho of course like dick grayson, most people don’t know their comic counterparts are Roma so). marvel also has a much broader audience and therefore more people in that audience who are going to notice when non-roma actors are cast as roma characters
or maybe I misinterpreted the books and what i thought was a bevy of tropes and stereotypes associated with roma people and culture that leigh bardugo shoved in there, and the suli arent based on the roma at all?
idk it just disappointing to me that netflix didn’t hire any roma actors for these roles, and it seems very odd to me that among all the discussions about how race and diversity was (mis)handled by the author and the netflix show, this hasnt seemed to come up at all?
