Kaiju Week in Review (December 11-17, 2022)
Tumblr media
After the success of last year's Pacific Rim Ultimate Omnibus, Legendary Comics has launched a Kickstarter for a MonsterVerse Omnibus collecting Godzilla: Awakening, Skull Island: The Birth of Kong, Godzilla: Aftershock, Godzilla Dominion, and Kingdom Kong. It blasted past its funding goal on the first day. The Omnibus will eventually make it to retail, but naturally the Kickstarter rewards include some exclusives, like a slipcase and a different cover, as well as higher-tier bonuses like enamel pins and the ability to get drawn into the comics.
The biggest draw if you've already bought the five comics above is the debut of "Call to Action", written by Brian Buccellato and illustrated by Zid. Logline: "[S]et during the events of Godzilla vs. Kong, a Naval fighter pilot with a personal attachment to Godzilla is put to the test when his squadron is called upon to intercept the King of the Monsters." Well, I'm a sucker for mining drama out of incredibly minor characters, and Zid's the best artist these MonsterVerse comics have seen. If access to that story's all you care about, consider the $15 tier, which nets you a PDF of the Omnibus. K-D-M, who's proven to be a reliable source, is also saying that a number of the minor Titans (Na Kika, Amhuluk, Tiamat, and perhaps others) will receive Monarch bios as well. Those have been delightful sources of lore in the past.
Tumblr media
Speaking of comics, @mekagojira3k published the first issue of his self-adaptation of All Your Ruins on WebToon. Read it immediately, it's gnarly as shit! There's a kaiju with crosses on its back taunting a mysterious masked figure and what I'm choosing to interpret as a nod to the Age of Giant Condor!
youtube
I couldn't wait for the Week in Review to post about this, but it merits repeating: The Asylum is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a Destroy All Monsters-style epic called 2025 Armageddon. (Insert scare quotes around "epic" if you wish.) Most exciting to me is the return of Mega Shark, whose series inexplicably ended in 2015 just as it and the Kaiju Renaissance were finding their stride. It's also playing in five fairly random theaters across the country until the 22nd (sorry, should've gotten this post out faster). The rest of us will have to hold off until the VOD release on the 23rd.
Tumblr media
After it placed second in the last two Movie Monster Series fan polls, Bandai has thrown up its hands and given Super Mechagodzilla a vinyl, just in time for the 30th anniversary of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II next year. January 31st is the release date for that one. They also announced a third poll, this time allowing fan submissions to determine the 10 nominees instead of making the shortlist in a smoke-filled room themselves. Yes, that means Zilla, Bagan, and the Giant Condor are theoretically on the table (but no Godzilla incarnations allowed). All's you need is a Godzilla Store account to nominate a kaiju and eventually vote.
Finally, for you Dagahra fans out there, his first figure in ages is coming soon from the Kaiju Out of the Laws line. Shame those are so expensive.
youtube
Here's the teaser for the Kaiju No. 8 anime—and yes, it's going to be part of the Toho kaiju canon. I got caught up with the manga earlier this year and found it pretty enjoyable. An older protagonist is unusual for this type of story, and I like how he's constantly drawing on his experience cleaning up kajiu corpses after taking on the more glamorous work of fighting them. You also gotta admire the boldness of calling a metamorphosing character Kafka.
Tumblr media
SciFi Japan has a first look at a film due next year called Kaiju: Island of Fire. The production company is based in Japan, but there's a lot of Hollywood talent in this one, including writer/director Andrew L. Phillips, who has a background in stunt acting. Inspired by 3Y Films, they've also brought back some veteran kaiju actors: Kent Gilbert (the swishy ship commander in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah), Chuck Wilson (the Futurian Wilson in same), Inge Murata (every Japanese kaiju movie that's needed a German since Monster X Strikes Back), and Tomoko Ai (Katsura Mafune in Terror of Mechagodzilla). No story details yet, although you can probably guess the setting. I like the suit design of what is presumably the anti-kaiju team too, at least from the back.

1. Three ships: Bethyl...I've been stuck in Bethyl hell since I decided to finally watch The Walking Dead about 2 years ago...has it really been that long? Sam and Jack from Stargate SG-1...a ship so old, there weren't cute name combinations out there when I started. Now sure what it might be called now. Old school shipping used initials...SJ. Shenny! I love Sheldon and Penny together. The writers did Sheldon and Penny as well wrong and their canon ships also reflects bad characterizations.
2. First Ship Ever: I have to go with Serena and Darien...probably the first fanfictions I read and tried to write were about my favorite superhero duo. I had to mentally change their names to the 90's USA dubbed version when authors wrote Bunny/Usagi and Mamoru. I was young, but now I only switch out the usage of Bunny as her name.
3. Last Song: One Man Band by Old Dominion thanks to @olpie who pointed out this song is perfect for Bethyl
4. Last Film: Godzilla vs Kong...my 5 year old daughter loves Godzilla movies.
5. Currently Reading: I have a ton of Bethyl fics opened. Soooo many tabs on my phone opened.
6. Currently Watching: technically my daughter as one of the many Ryan and Friends videos on, but I'm binging Shameless (just got to S5). As well as Stargate SG-1 and The Walking Dead for writing purposes...helps keep me in character for writing and giving me ideas.
8. Currently Craving: cheese quesadilla with salsa...it's almost dinner time and that's what I plan to eat.
7. Currently Consuming: cough drops...just getting over a nasty sore throat/coughing fit.
9. Favorite Childhood Book: The Circle of Magic series by Tamora Pierce

So, from what I've heard and read, the canon Skar King's kingdom includes an inner circle of select elite apes who viciously enforce his rule while the majority are enslaved workers. This has gotten me thinking for the Scarred Ones version in Abraxasverse. Maybe we can give some of the Scar King's Abraxasverse subordinates in the Scarred Ones some even more individual personalities, and explore different Scarred Ones in different echelons of this brutal, corrupt dictatorship.
Like we could have the mid-ranking enforcer (nowhere near as privileged as the Scar King's cabal, but considerably better off than the slaves), who's probably kind of a true believer of the cult of personality indoctrination, until his eyes are opened to how bad the system he's living in and enforcing really is and how it's nowhere near as necessary to order as he's been taught to believe it was.
Personally, I also like the idea of the Scar King having as one of his closest confidantes a corrupt religious leader who serves the Scar King's authority by painting his authority and ambitions of war and conquest as divine right and will.
Tumblr media
I like this idea! And from the enforcer's position it's hard to dispute Skar King as having a divine right of... well, kings. Why else would Skar King possess such weaponry and treasures passed down by those who have fallen, his armor inherited from the last of the Thunderers their old allies (and possible slaves)? Why else would Skar King hold dominion over Shimo, the Beast Whose Breath Makes Eternal Winters Lasting? Skar King has faced countless challengers in the past and has bested them every time. He is King Under the Mountain.
...this also brings to mind the song Carolus Rex by Sabaton, albeit in a much more sinister sense.
"All that's thine shall be mine, there's no stopping me All over Europe my rule shall be questioned by none All I see give to me, that is my decree My will be done."
Perhaps the breaking point for this enforcer will be the sight of Godzilla mourning a fallen Oxymandias, not roaring but screaming in such emotional anguish that it turns his blood cold. The mighty saurian doesn't sound like an Alpha Titan ruling over the surface world like the cruel and mindless tyrant he expected; he sounds like a sobbing child. And Skar King is readying his weapon for murder...

So I'm trying to write out some ideas for Dominion au scenes and I guess I'm questioning what kind of humor fits Dominator? She's definitely comically evil + mean spirited so there is dark humor galore (Plus with kid cosmic using death as a punchline, lmafo it makes for some dark opportunity),
but if.... sighes, If the writers really were trying to go for the "she doesn't belong in the show" anime-op-badass "sexy bully"(<<<gags I hate this approach i hate sexy bully) archetype, I have to wonder if she's conscious of herself in situations or not. In Q&A they say she loves riot grrl but she's also fine with using a guy persona to "mess with people"?? Mess with them how? Make them double take and awkwardly scramble to treat her differently? Or make them not judge her as a (gender) but as a badass foe first and foremost regardless, and being a woman is just the cherry on top? I have to wonder if her love for the riot grrl genre includes the fundamental girl empowerment (proud to be a girl), or the "don't judge me just because I am a girl! I belong here too!" aspect. Is her perspective that she is proud to be a badass woman, or does she feel she's a badass who happens to be woman therefore women must be great? She seems to use whatever tools she has at her disposal, but also has a comedic self care routine of fluffy towels and pink guest bathrooms. So she's all out evil villain, but also has sensitivities and seemingly personal boundaries with "me-time" which doesn't read entirely as the all out off the wall destroyer, but a quirky lethal evil conqueror. It matters because like, would she be a "sexy" bully that has personal boundaries over her body, or is it all in, make the others squirm and yelp? Is she vulgar and unhinged? or does she have some kind of pride that would prevent her from "degrading" her self in her view by flirting with people she sees as losers? We have characters that have a sense of pride or a sense of boundary, which can make for good kind spirited humor too, but if Dominator really doesn't belong, it's hard to discern just how far her actions would go. basically it's one of the two: A) she embodies the "intensely evil little girl" all grown up into a fearsome villainess, playing godzilla with living toys. This is within the same vein to Hater's "spoiled brat emo prince" all grown up into a manchild rockstar tyrant personality. This means she would have some personal boundaries and sense of pride, meaning she would toy with others (flirting, teasing) but not be intensely vulgar. Fits the setting of WoY pretty well, though? Is... being pretty and mean enough to be a sexy bully archetype? Ugh Man, I hate this trope lmao. It feels gross. B) She embodies the "evil no matter what" and just happens to be a woman. she relishes in bullying others and making them squirm, wanting to destroy everything in her path. She's super unhinged and even self-destructive if not careful. No sense of sympathy for others, she just. wants. to. destroy. those puny little faces. (Cute aggression over 9,000!) And it's bleak! Yeah! ...and, lonely. Woops. This means she would be very vulgar, and not care what people think about her or her body because of course she's already perfect, she's HER. This to me reads as more so the sexy bully archetype, but ignores some semblance of her softer sides like her "...friend?" moments with Sylvia or her funny reactions to things like "what? Ew--no." which imply personal boundaries. I'm writing a whole damn essay about this because I don't want to make her too vulgar if it's ooc. But... it's seriously hard to understand what the hell the writers even meant by "sexy bully" because is that just a hot mean girl? Or a get under your skin and twist the knife just "to break your heart and watch you cry" kinda thing??? HOW FAR DOES IT GO, idk idk. Frankly I wish canon Dominator was not fanservice sultry and only sporadically "maniac pixie nightmare girl" like the VA's videos implied, because that stuff was hysterically fitting for WoY. Unhinged and unfitting of the WoY universe, but in a light goofy turning instantly heavy and dark humored way.

February is over and I’m ready to offically declare this month Kaijū Māchi.
Fans and aficionados of giant monsters here’s the date-to-date breakdown of all the kaijū content coming at us in March be it TV, comics, home video, or a couple of highly anticipated feature films…  March 2: Monster Hunter - Blu-ray release for the 2020 film based on the hit Capcom game and co-produced by Toho. I only know one person whose seen this and he said it was surprisingly faithful to the game and much more gory then anticipated.  March 4: Pacific Rim the Black - New anime series premiering on Netflix set in the Pacific Rim universe. This story takes place during the events of the 2013 film when Australia was overrun by kaijū. Early reviews say its good. March 8: Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time - The long awaited and frequently delayed final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series finally has its Japanese theatrical release. No word yet on when American fans can look forward to seeing how Hideaki Anno’s increasingly off the wall re-imagining of his iconic franchise wraps up.   March 17: Marvel’s second Ultraman comic series, The Trials of Ultraman, debuts with a cover by Matt Frank. But how will it compare with James Harren’s ultra-violent homage to the same franchise, Ultramega (Image/Skybound), also dropping the same day? March 23: The 4th Vol of the English translation of the manga Kaiju Girl Caramelise drops. I haven’t read this series myself but it’s apparently about a girl who transforms into a Godzilla-like monster when embarassed.    UPDATE: March 25: Godzilla: Singular Point - Fans have long clamored for a proper Godzilla anime series and Godzilla: Singular Point looks like it may finally be it. While it was previously assumed that the entire series would make its worldwide debute on Netflix this month we now know this is not the case.  March 30: WB Archive is releasing the obscure Tsuburaya/Rankin-Bass co-production The Bermuda Depths (1978) on Blu-ray. The film involves the Bermuda triangle, a mermaid, and a kaijū-sized sea turtle. Also being released this day are two new graphic novels from Legendary Picture’s comic imprint both serving as prequels to the feature film Godzilla vs Kong. “Dominion” will focus on Godzilla while “Kingdom Kong” focuses on, you guessed it, Kong. Both with cover art by the legendary Art Adams. March 31: Godzilla vs Kong - The long awaited and frequently delayed final film in WB/Legendary Picture’s MonsterVerse has its US theatrical release while also simultaneously debuting on the HBO Max streaming service due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.  “Late March” No solid release date yet but independent home video distributor SRS has promised to release the obscure Korean kaijū film War of the God Monsters (1985) on Blu-ray this month; also with a cover by Matt Frank. This film’s SFX content was cobbled together almost entirely from episodes of the TV series Return of Ultraman (1971). So if you’ve ever wanted Ultraman with no superheroes and just kaijū this may be the film for you.

Did you pick up the new Godzilla monsterverse comic yet? If not, I recommend that you do. It has some stuff in it that I'm sure you would enjoy!
I did!! I’ve read Godzilla Dominion but haven’t had a chance to read Kingdom Kong yet, though I did pick it up as well.
I really enjoyed the way it was written, the descriptions of how Goji sort of feels the Earth and can like, sense things through it?? was cool. The whole comic mostly focusing on him being a tired old man looking for a quiet radiation vent to eat from makes it a vast improvement over Aftershock imo. To be honest, I do not like Amhuluk’s design, it feels kinda... off. I still have no clue what his actual forms are?? It reminds me of MUTO Prime in the worst way, like overdesigned to the point of feeling sorta nonsensical. But! I really like Tiamat and Na Kika. Tiamat is grumpy but I forgive her because she’s pretty. Na Kika is a sweet baby angel and I’ll protect her with my life. A bit of a side note but poor Behemoth man!! I hope he can grow back his tusk. UnU
I also heard about the Mothra mentions before picking it up but it still made me kinda emotional :’) Goji remembering her and reflecting on her sacrifice/that he’s alive because of her is just... my heart. I’m glad Legendary has accepted it as canon and is willing to give my Moth Mom the honour she deserves <3

so have you read any of the godzilla comics runs? and if so what do you think of them? ive been eye-ing half century war because im very into comics and running out of godzilla movies, but theres so many comics it seems like its own big commitment
I have! I absolutely adore:
- the entire Marvel run (hard to track down now but SO DAMN GOOD, and it led me to Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur too!)
- Half Century War
- Rulers of the Earth
I love:
- the Dark Horse run, even if a lot of cool plot threads get unceremoniously dropped in it
- Godzilla in Hell, even if the middle chunk of it is kinda super disappointing
- Rage Across Time
I like
- Godzilla: Legends
- Gangsters and Goliaths (this would be higher if they had gotten an artist who can actually draw monsters well - a problem with pretty much all the Godzilla comics I’ve seen that aren’t either by Marvel or illustrated by Art Adams, Matt Frank, James Stokoe, or Bob Egleton)
I am indifferent to/critical of
- all the lackluster Monsterverse tie-in comics (though I will note that the recently released Godzilla: Dominion is significantly better than its predecessors)
- the rest of the IDW Godzilla comics
I have not read:
- the many, MANY different manga about Godzilla that have not been released in the states to my knowledge

Rambling time.
Just watched Godzilla vs Kong.
I don't read the novel yet but, I just don't understand why the human in Godzilla side of story is.... so one dimensional??? And barely add anything to the movie?
Also, why do we have to follow the roadtrip of Russell's daughter and her friends rather than Russell? despite the underwhelming human plot in KOTM, I am genuinely interested in his character progression (as a non believer to, maybe not a believer, but at least someone that try to do right by Serizawa' life work i.e, the Titan). I was hoping the movie will have more infos on the inner-working of Monarch post-KotM and how it approaches and balances both worlds, how it monitors the Titan, how the Monarch interpreted Godzilla's action, how the giant lizard take care of his dominion's?? Alas.
We get, well, this tiresome trio. Things happen to them that serves as exposition but it's just so clumsy? Evil corporation is evil corporation, but that doesnt mean that they lack the agency to convince us viewers of their purpose, rather than spouting cliche villain lines to the misunderstood underdog.
They keep adding in these new human characters, rather than progressing with the genuinely sympathetic ones (which unfortunately had been killed, that is, Cranston's Joe Brody and Watanabe's Serizawa) and the could-be-more (Russell sr., Vivienne, Dr.Chen). Sure the novel expanded them more, but it's such a shame the way the human translated into the movies).
Also, has a tiny beef with how one-sided it is that most sympathetic scenes went to Kong's. And how all Godzilla's appearances are set in a mostly evil tone? Which felt like a disservice to KotM.
About the Kong Whisperer. Aren't the lady science and Jia also from Monarch? I don't understand why isn't she and Russell communicating or relaying information? Are they from different branches? But both of their subjects have this epic dispute so why aren't they working together? Does the caring of their Titan supercede other human's lives?
Kong got this supposedly loving people that care for him in Monarch yet they barely showed any emotions when most of their fleets are destroyed, which I assumed have a lot of collateral damage, and the disgraced prof lose a brother yet it barely touched on, even though when he said Science Lady is an old friend and dismissive of him especially when he showed fear to Kong (which, understandable since KotM), calling him a coward and really, it feels like these people keeps Kong captive in the pretense of safety and self-righteousness?
Or maybe I'm the one not paying attention. Sigh.
I mean, the first scene we saw Russell and he and his people feels like it is doing a lot more to mitigate public fear.
Furthermore, Apex , Mechagodzilla, and Serizawa's son? Deserve a better storytelling rather than a footnote.
Idk, I want to like this movie. But KotM has this certain colourful charm that GvK lacks. It feels like there's a movie missing between GvK and KotM. Wanted to enjoy the monster fight but my enjoyment is diminished by my overactive brain.

The Giant Jesus in the Gospel of Peter
By Author Eli Kittim
——-
Bart Ehrman dates the non-canonical Gospel of Peter to ca. 150 ce or earlier. It’s considered to be a pseudepigraphical work. However, according to John Dominic Crossan, it seems to incorporate an early source for the passion-narrative that may predate all other known passion accounts. These scholarly views suggest that this gospel may have been inspired.
From an eschatological perspective, the giant Jesus coming out of the tomb at the end of days might actually provide the most accurate resurrection narrative to date (cf. Isa. 2.19; Dan. 12.1-2; Heb. 9.26-28). The reason for this is obvious. Revelation 1.7 claims that “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him.” An average 5-foot or 6-foot man in the sky obviously cannot be seen by anyone, let alone by “every eye” of all them that dwell on the face of the earth. On the other hand, a *giant* Jesus can, in fact, be observed from many miles away, thus lending credence to the apocalyptic description in Rev. 1.7. Here’s the *resurrection narrative* in the Gospel of Peter (verses 38-40):
Therefore, having seen this, the
soldiers woke up the centurions and elders,
for they were also keeping watch. And
while they were describing to them the
things they had seen, behold, they saw
three men coming out of the tomb, with the
two young men supporting the One . . . And
the head of the two reaching unto to
heaven, but the One of whom they led out
by the hand, His head reached beyond the
heavens.
Thus, there is a description, here, of a giant resurrected Jesus coming out of the tomb. The point is that Jesus will come back to life not as an average human being but rather as a giant. Of all the postmortem appearances of Jesus, this is probably the most accurate portrayal because it seems to parallel many Biblical passages. For example, it seems to fit with the Pauline Christ——who’s portrayed as a towering figure——who will ultimately destroy the Antichrist (2 Thess. 2.8 NRSV)
with the breath of his mouth, annihilating
him by the manifestation of his coming.
It’s also congruent with another, Old Testament, verse in which the Lord appears as a massive, colossal figure: (Isa. 31.5):
Like birds hovering overhead, so the Lord of
hosts will protect Jerusalem; he will protect
and deliver it, he will spare and rescue it.
In another, apocalyptic, verse, only a great figure of immense proportion can annihilate a giant dragon called Leviathan (Isa. 27.1 cf. Job 41.1; Ps 74.14):
On that day the Lord with his cruel and
great and strong sword will punish
Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the
twisting serpent, and he will kill the dragon
that is in the sea.
That’s precisely why we are told that “There were giants in the earth in those days” (Gen. 6.4 KJV), much like the film characters of Godzilla and King Kong. But which days is Gen. 6.4 referring to? Given that skyscrapers began to be built only in the 20th century, it seems very likely that the “Tower of Babel” (Gen. 11.4) is representative of that same time period, and thus it may have prophetic implications with regard to the end of days. For instance, why does Dan. 9.26, within its description of the last days, declare: “Its end shall come with a flood”? Similarly, why does Lk 17.30 emphatically compare Noah’s flood to the Revelation of Jesus Christ during the day of the Lord? Probably because these earlier Biblical narratives were trying to convey the exact same messages that we find in the later apocalyptic versions of the New Testament, especially in the Book of Revelation!
Conclusion
Given that the authors of the canonical gospels are themselves, at times, seemingly unfamiliar with the local geography, customs, feasts, idioms, language, law, and the religion of the Jews, we cannot therefore dismiss the gospel of Peter on similar grounds. The possibility that the gospel of Peter could incorporate the earliest source for the passion-narratives (Crossan), and that it is dated to the first half of the second century, based on independent oral traditions (Ehrman), means that it could have been a candidate for canonicity. In other words, it may turn out to be partly, if not wholly, inspired. Remember that many current books in the Bible were at one time highly controversial and were not given full canonical status until much later.
Finally, the giant resurrected Christ in the Gospel of Peter is the only version that seems to validate and confirm Revelation’s image of a towering figure on a white horse who “judges and makes war” (Rev. 19.11), and who can actually be seen from the earth (Rev. 1.7). By comparison, an average human being cannot possibly be seen “coming with the clouds of heaven.” Dan. 7.13-14 reads:
As I watched in the night visions, I saw one
like a human being coming with the clouds
of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One
and was presented before him. To him was
given dominion and glory and kingship, that
all peoples, nations, and languages should
serve him. His dominion is an everlasting
dominion that shall not pass away, and his
kingship is one that shall never be
destroyed.

New Abraxasverse Headcanons
No Qs from me this time, but there are these! :)
Those recent Qs about how Godzilla probably had to claw his way to the top got me thinking, and I had to say (1) pronto...

(1) Titans' Past Headcanon: Tying into how Monsterverse canon seems to be leaning towards the angle that the subordinate Titans/non-Alpha Titans are Chaotic Neutral - with what I've read in the GvK novelisation and on the internet about Scylla, Amhuluk and other Titans' roles during 'Godzilla: Dominion,' which seems to indicate that Godzilla and good-aligned Alphas are the only Titans who really CARE about using their ecosystem-growing abilities to maintain nature at all - maybe in Abraxasverse, the Titans only started to give a damn about taking care of the rest of their planet when Godzilla first took charge of them all long ago. Maybe before Godzilla was King of the Monsters, the Titans were just as careless and self-interested as modern human civilisation is, only caring about feeding and breeding to satisfy themselves and scrapping for their own territory while not caring about how it could affect them long-term, before Godzilla, with his connection to the Zohar and with Mothra alongside him, started making a change to make the world more lastingly stable. I dunno about others, but personally I like the idea that there's still some of that representation of the Titans as primal, amoral animalistic abominations which had no more comprehensible morality in them than Cthulhu, once upon a time before Godzilla and Mothra found and enforced the balance.
(1.5) Maybe that even provides another couple reasons (besides Ghidorah, and past Muto population booms) for why most of the Earth Titans are the last of their kind or at least the only ones on the surface in modern times. Maybe these pre-balance ages of discord contributed to the decline of several Titan species. And/or, maybe the Titans from the Mass Awakening are the only still-living members of their respective species who actually came around to Godzilla and Mothra's way of running things instead of resisting them or selfishly pursuing their own instincts.
(2) Godzilla's Youth: We've already got hints in 'Abraxas' that Godzilla used to be a bit more hot-tempered in his younger days. To harken to the original and more villainous portrays of Godzilla: maybe Abraxasverse Godzilla used to be outright destructive and merciless to anything that dared to oppose him, and it was only with age, with Mothra's influence and/or with getting tired of watching devastation after devastation that he grew more heroic and became a Protector.
---
Fascinating headcanons, thanks for sharing! The idea that the surviving Titans may have been the Only Sane Ones among their respective species is a sobering one; alternatively, some of the more vitriolic ones like Rodan and Scylla were initially in the "fuck it we do what we want" camp and then witnessed the consequences of their actions. I'm also recalling a rumor/headcanon about Kong's warlike ancestors, so they may have also had something to do with the diminished numbers; dominate whatever Titans give in and submit, or kill the ones who don't, never thinking about the side effects.
It could have been a vicious cycle that Godzilla grew up with and bore witness to, maybe even participated in (especially once the Kongs started targeting his own species which would lead to a lifelong grudge)... oh, and seeing as I hear Godzilla's voice as God of War 2018 Kratos, maybe he has a similar Heel Realization after slaughtering through what he assumed where scheming villains only to discover that they were actually innocent and not harming anyone, and the resulting guilt was one of the big wake up calls Godzilla needed to really step up and change his ways.

How does lucoa fit in crossthicc?
she is one of the most important divine characters in the AU! It’s fair to assume that when the gods worshipped by the Fleet are brought up, she is one of the central ones; if the AU is divided into several ‘cast herds’ focusing on different groups of characters, then she is, in a sense, the most likely central one of the divine characters. Probably you’d have her, her big loud buddy Thor, Varda as her mysterious boss, power couple Godzilla and Mothra, and big mama Primus as the ‘main’ god characters, or at least some of the most prominent ones.
Lucoa in Crossthicc is more closely based on her original mythological inspiration, the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl. She is mainly a goddess of the sun, fertility (in this case, for both agriculture and mass breeding), and the works of genius, as she is reputed to have taught early humans how to create. Consequently, she often gives her clerics powerful fire-related powers, dominion over plants, and such overwhelming fertility they tend to be perpetually pregnant and virile as appropriate. (from my readings, only small animals were probably sacrificed to Quetzalcoatl, so while there might be sacrifices of people feeding themselves to her, they are only temporarily devoured.)
She often manifests in a more mundane avatar, and largely acts similar to the way she does in canon; a wise if at times distant and politically neutral figure who is more concerned with the safety of the multiverse as a whole, and is very flirty, concerned with the dignity of living beings, and have very little understanding or concern for modern social rules.
She is super busty and thicc, even by this AU’s standards! her boobs alone are often larger than other people, when she is at those people’s scale. in her fully divine forms, she is even bigger, and she can be larger than universes, her milk sufficient to contain whole realities and contain them.
a gentle, motherly figure, Lucoa has little interest in the wars and conflicts of the gods, and in many ways embodies how the Fleet seems to be to less powerful societies and factions; an imposing and unstoppable power that could swallow them whole and yet is totally benign, and a protector. She’s a bit world-weary; she has only recently returned to power after the loss of belief following her believer’s destruction eons ago, and she’s not terribly happy with the decline of the multiverse she has seen. she’s also rather fatalistic, as befits an Aztec goddess, though its not quite in the same nihilistic fashion. (Her rival, Tezcatlipoca, is likely worshiped by the Stingers and has been reimagined as a Lucoa-ish MILF, and they have a very tense disagreement.)
in her avatar form, Lucoa generally appears much as she looks in canon, though taller (always slightly larger than average for those around her), and she is not light-skinned; she is clearly an Aztec woman. Her hair color is the same, while her horns are made of living gold, a testament to the love of the people who loved her (given the cultural attitudes towards gold as sacrifices for the gods).
In direct divine manifestations, Lucoa can appear as a naga, with a serpentine lower body resembling her canonical true dragon form, as well as assume that winged serpent form with ease; it is easily one of the most massive sights known in the AU. She has also been known to become a massive Saurian lizardwoman, other varieties of naga, and even dinosaur people of varying kinds.
(Shouta is most likely around as a cleric of hers; he is a grown man by the current time frame of the AU, and probably a professor at magical studies. he’s in the awkward position of having to rein in his goddess’ periodic more chaotic moments.)
