Sometimes if you try to see the things you don't want to see

You'll actually get to see people's real feelings.

The surface is the glass, the protector or the mask but it can't keep all the real from escaping, it cracks with the smile y'all keep faking

Sometimes the pain they hide be loud enough to see it in their eyes, you can see the tear stains left behind

Ima try something different, I'll trust that I can cry, look for the things I don't want to face looking up this time

When a female called Immortality steals an unfortunate human being's phone after terrifying them and posts a bloodied photo of herself on that stranger's phone, people are frightened on all the social media platforms. As more and more incidents occur where she scares others and steals their phones, people grow increasingly horrified as the numbers rise, yet the people become even more scared when she begins to post pictures of herself and the owner of the phone beside them dead. I have no idea how I’m even going to begin to talk about this powerful, whimsical novel longlisted for the @womensprize 2022. I have to admit I wasn’t sure when I first started reading, but the astounding quality of the writing and quirky nature of the narrative had me eagerly anticipating when I would next pick up the book again. ⁣ ⁣ One Sky Day (also published as Popisho) is an extraordinary novel about a community on the archipelago of Popisho who are all born with a little something extra that benefits their lives in some way. Some gifts are obvious like an extra limb or an extra buttock cheek (yes, I went there 🤣) and others are more subtle and take a while before they are unearthed. ⁣ ⁣ Xavier is a celebrated macaenus, an anointed chef chosen by his ancestor and is able to bring flavour into his meals just using his hands. He has been asked to prepare a wedding feast for the Governor’s daughter, Sonteine. Anise, Xavier’s long lost love can predict illnesses in others and after a succession of horrendous miscarriages is searching for her cheating spouse. The novel follows a host of unique and spell-binding characters amidst themes of addiction, loss, female empowerment, inequality and discrimination, political corruption, sex work and poverty. ⁣ ⁣ I would never be able to do justice to this staggeringly strange but beautiful novel in the short space I have here. It has to be read to be believed. I don’t think it’s a book for everyone but I do regret whilst trying to read it I was also reading multiple other books. This One Sky Day is a story you need to savour completely on its own. 06.01.2022

Last night, I went to the cinema and watch Délicieux. Such a sublime historical film, happening just before French Revolution. Extra recommended.

Is my second day waking up at 5am. It is tough and its two degrees here, which is not helping, but I decided to stay in bed for one extra hour reading with my morning coffee just to make it easier.

My first book of the year is in Catalan. Its been a while since I don’t read in the language I usually speak and I realise I read slower than in other languages, but that’s why we are doing this. So hope to gain speed as pages goes by.

This has to be one of my top 3 Sam and Jack fics out there. It’s not completed as of yet, but she has (I think) only three chapters left. I love the Tok’ra, and @joracwyn nails them in her writing. This is full of angst, but the ending is coming and there is light at the end of the tunnel. This is the perfect blend of angst and S/J actually getting their $h!T together!

An Ode to Transformation

I take time to mirror myself. Clarity of reflection. But I wish I could leave it behind. Make it where I’m on some outta mind outta sight type shit.

Where the distance of time un-weaved whatever could have been woven even in that short period of time...

But the world of would ifs plague my mind. I wanna be like air and cease to exist. Be cold, distant, on some fuck it type shit.

Yet past experiences prove that a fallacy. It’s funny cause college course in philosophy couldn’t convey the straight facts just living my life brought to me. So I understand to identify that trigger.

And disengage so when it’s time to turn a new page. The map is already made. As I say observe not absorb. I’m missing you like crazy. But that just means ... I’m missing me even more. Reflection.

If I choose that as a definition to freedom then i was never completely free. I believe that If human beings had superpowers mine would be transforming every single feeling known or unknown to humanity into fear.

A curse really.

I’m almost always afraid of something or nothing it’s irrational and I know. So as a consequence I accepted being always alone…

“And then I think maybe I’m designed to be alone”

but am I designed to suffer ? Not necessarily.

what gives me a taste of the freedom i crave ? i asked myself what is my antidote ? My temporary fix?

And my answers and safe haven were found in the muted cries of others: Literature

I started drowning myself in literature, played hide and seek between the pages of dusted books and maybe I overdid it. but at least i was never found, not if I didn’t want to be…

I read and read and read
