#realistically does hunter know how to use social media? no

Home, page 709
If it hadn’t been for the two Home Discord servers I’m in I wouldn’t have even realized a new page was live on the 25th. (I’ve been cutting back on idle time-- especially social media in a bid to be more productive with my writing.) Page 184 was the last time Home had any real potential as a story and it’s been on a steady decline ever since. Lately, it’s been hard to feel anything for this comic, not even annoyance. It’s that stale and that bland-- even as a terrible story that’s little more than a lesson on how NOT to tackle a creative project.
Tumblr media
The latest public page could be interesting in theory. However, everything is just so dark between the black pelted characters, black blankets, and a lack of atmospheric lighting. The only way to fully follow what’s happening is read this comic on a tablet or a computer with a gaming monitor. Geez. The last panel does try with rule of cool, but the more you think about the scene and the set up, the less it makes sense.
The Southspear Tribe notices some tents camped near their territory. They briefly wonder why anyone would camp near them since they survive by robbing other dogs. So they form a raid party, declare the area safe, and then five dogs set off to rob the occupants of the three tent camp. It’s one dog per tent to hold each tent hostage while a single dog from the Southspear group actually does the looting. Surprise! The camp was actually a set up from the Solar Stag Tribe’s bounty hunters. This capital tribe is somewhat responsible for peacekeeping on the island of dogs and lions-- yet they’re rarely shown to intervene in a 700+ page comic. (Even the Wiki says no tribe really has to follow the laws. See the crime section.)
Tumblr media
While it SHOULD be cool to see the bounty hunters attack, it feels so odd.
Why hunt Southspear now when they’ve been left alone to do their own thing for ages?
Why didn’t these bounty hunters ever go after the Meteor Tribe in the north, considering how they literally kidnapped dogs to use as slaves and in some cases, sex slaves?
Who even put the bounty out on them?
And how did a bunch of dogs not know which tents were empty and which had a bunch of hidden dogs and one lion within?
Realistically, shouldn’t Solar Stag have filled all the tents with at least two waiting bounty hunters to actually take down the raiders? If everyone is concentrated in one tent, the other raiders can easily escape.
Is this a declaration of war against Southspear or will we never hear from Solar Stag again regarding this sting operation?
There’s a possibility Kique and Staz may actually answer some of these questions, but I’ve learned long ago not to expect coherent or even fulfilling answers to ANYTHING that happens in this comic.
Honestly, What Lurks Beneath has replaced Home for me as a comic with more talking and intrigue than action. It works well because it’s just a much better story all around. For my canine action fix, there’s To Catch a Star.

I started October thinking ‘man, I have so many manga to review I’m going to be posting stuff every other day!’. Didn’t happen.
A Bride’s Story, Volume 1, by Kaoru Mori
This manga is set in nineteenth-century central Asia, along the Silk Road, it’s the story of a twenty-year-old woman sent from her nomadic tribe to marry a twelve-year-old boy in a settled clan. They arrange the marriage in order to maintain family bonds between the two households.
This was never going to be an easy read but let me start with the positive; visually A Bride’s Story is utterly beautiful, Kaoru Mori draws with a level of detail I have never before encountered in manga. Written literature is often placed above graphic novels with the excuse that there’s more artistry and depth when a world is bring created solely through vast amounts of words rather than images, and yet here is a case where literature could never compete. The written word could never compete with Mori’s exquisite illustrations of nomadic dress, patterned carpets and wood carvings. In A Bride’s Story we get a full visual experience of a culture and way of life that is now rare.
Story-wise this manga falls neatly into the ‘show, don’t tell’ approach of storytelling: lesser mangas would have the characters openly and plainly discussing themes, telling the audience exactly what they should think and what they should take away from the book, but A Bride’s Story presents this time and culture in a neutral way, with both negatives and positives alongside each other, leaving the reader free to assess their own feelings.
Spoilers ahead
Amir, the female protagonist, is warmly welcomed into her new husband’s family. When we think of a young woman having to marry a child in our minds the situation is horrific, to not be able to choose your own husband and on top of that to be forever tied, socially and legally, to a child is the sort of thing made for tragedy. Luckily for Amir her new husband, twelve-year-old Karluk, is good-natured and is full of admiration for his wife. Amir came from a nomadic tribe, she can shoot rabbits with a bow and arrow whilst ridding a galloping horse, she knows how to travel the lands, rear sheep and skin animals. Karluk sees her like a hunter, almost like a warrior, and he sees her like a mother in the way she frets and worries about his health and looks after him.
Amir is lucky because her new family openly accepts her and they view her differences with curiosity and wonder. They are a large family who have created a safe, happy home and together they work to keep it in peace. So the fears that the reader might imagine about an arranged marriage with such an age gap are not necessarily the ones that appear. The antagonists are actually Amir’s own clan, who realize that there’s a potentially more advantageous match to be made and intend to remove her from her current situation and marry her off to someone else.
Another nice surprise is that although this is a patriarchal society in which men make the life-changing decisions, we do a great character in the matriarchal grandmother of Karluk’s family, who displays a strength and resolve that even the men from Amir’s clan revere.
Onto the negatives: there’s a scene in which Amir is telling Karluk to strip naked because out in the desert, in a yurt, it is common practice to sleep nude because it gets very cold and it is warmer to sleep skin to skin. Karluk is clearly uncomfortable with this. Amir’s naked breasts are exposed and sexily drawn. In the next panels we see that sleeping naked together makes Karluk think of lambs sleeping snuggled to their mothers and for him there is nothing sexual in this experience. While the scene is implying that their relationship is more of mother and child, it is still a shock to see Amir’s naked adult body, and it makes us wonder what will happen when Karluk becomes physically more sexually mature but not necessarily mentally mature.
Japan has a deep-rooted obsession with sexualizing youth, it is something that comes up often in manga, anime, literature and media, and I’m always weary of when it might be sneaking its ugly head in more subtle ways. For example a couple of months ago I watched Beastars, which is a anime about anthropomorphic animal-humanoids (e.g. like Zootopia) and while I enjoyed the anime, there was something disturbing about the central couple; a wolf and a bunny rabbit. Compared to the large size of the humanoid wolf the small humanoid bunny looked child-like. The size thing and species thing is done to create sexual tension between the large scary wolf and the cute sweet little bunny, but there was something about the bunny’s small yet sexually developed form, in a school girl uniform, next to an adult-looking man, which just rang alarm bells. Interestingly I think the manga handles this better as the bunny’s body isn’t drawn in such a sexualized and realistic way as in the anime. In the anime there are moments where there is definitely a subtle catering to paedophilic appetites, especially as issues of uncontrollable desire and danger and predator and prey are brought up.
Back to A Bride’s Story, I don’t feel that this is a book that encourages or excuses paedophilia, it is presenting us, in a neutral way, with things that would have happened at the time. When Karluk presents his wife to some distant family members they are shocked, not with the fact that Karluk at age twelve is already married but because a twenty-year-old bride is considered an old bride. The custom is to marry women off young so they have longer to produce children. At the back of the book in the Author’s Notes Mori writes that women would normally be married at the age of 15 or 16, and beside this comment the author has drawn a picture of a young bride, with the following remark “Hey you! Yeah, you, big guy, looking at her like that! Let’s step out into the hallway and have a talk!” So while there’s no direct comment about paedophilia or the sexualization of youth, this one comment does hint that the author is aware of the issue in society, past and present.
One of the things that I am looking forward to in the series is that it will not centre just on Amir and Karluk’s relationship, it seems that other volumes will introduces other bride’s stories, including women who are lesbians or bisexuals and women who perhaps do not identify with a female gender. There is a secondary character in volume 1 called Smith, an Englishman who is studying the culture and customs of Central Asia and I believe that as he travels to different countries this may be how new storylines are introduced to us.
One difficulty I had in reviewing this manga was that I kept wanting to say it is about people from a specific country, however nowhere in the book does it say in which country the action takes place. In a way this is a western problem, it is an understatement to say that many, many a problem has arisen from the West’s desire for defined borders in countries where, at the time, it was not common to have them, places where tribes moved about depending on the seasons and trade. So after some brief research I believe this book explores the cultures of Mongol Nomads, of countries such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan that make up Central Asia, and with the potential of exploring influences from neighbouring countries such as China, Russia, Iran and Afghanistan. In the Author’s Notes she also mentions being interested in the Caucasus region of Central Asia, so that may also be countries like Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, and the Caucasus Mountains which create a natural border between Eastern Europe and Western Asia.
One thing is for sure: since A Bride’s Story follows the path of the Silk Road, the crossroads from which Europe and Asia traded, it promises to be a wonderful melting pot of traditions and ideas.

when you are reading this rant take full offense its 2am here and im mad as hell
fair warning this post is long as fuck and has several arguments pertaining to specific peeves i need to rant about before i go crazy. if you're not interested just keep scrolling it's not hard it's literally the core of social media navigation
you know what? ima say it.
black flag is the best ac game and deserves more recognition than just pirate drinking jokes because:
nearly every named character (sorry burgess and cockram) has development and personalities. cant say that for that many others in other games.
not too much fucking shit to do in it (unlike uhhhhhhhh every fucking other game in the franchise. stop it. i dont need 500 treasure chests in arno's game he already has an excellent revenue with the cafe. i dont need a ton of side quests. i dont need 30+ chests per london burough. i dont need a million question marks on my map. i dont need all of egypt or greece to be littered with shit to do. fuck this.).
unlocking shit is so much easier. edward knows where every treasure chest is and doesnt pay for treasure maps. and literally unlocking shit is so much easier.
base is slept on. its fucking cool. its fucking fun. its fucking useful as shit. its fucking pretty as all hell. fuck you.
good story, fun story, great dlc, relatable story (unless youre some bootlicking cowardly rich cunt) emotional story but not depressing (unity im looking at your ending. origins stop killing children.), satisfying end.
i can do the combat with one hand. you know what that means? i can eat and drink without pausing. i can reply to text messages without pausing. i can pet my dogs and cats while playing.
main character actually has changed by the end of the game a vast amount. motherfucker, edward changed more in his antó mission than ezio did in his trilogy.
if you dont complete all objectives you still have a passing score on the mission. do you know what its like to be raised to only get good grades on stuff and see yourself getting a 60% on a thing thats supposed to be a pass time just because you forgot something.
the naval combat isnt hard you just need practice. also i know the hunter ship sucks in the first mission you encounter but literally drop your sails but hold the wheel. once its in view let go. swim to it. take out the crew. swim back. bada bing bada boom go oneshot the crew. incredible, you're safe now.
legendary ship battles are really fucking cool and my mom doesnt yell at me for killing a giant beast for next to nothing.
the sea shanties and tavern songs slap.
farm animal petting simulator. not forced to kill dogs (ac3, odyssey).
obviously its good if the other games are just gonna copy paste it.
ed's tattoos are sick.
edward is literally the first canon bisexual. he literally says so in game. he literally fucking flirts with blackbeard. he literally was a pirate. why the fuck do you think birate is such an accurate pun.
diving outfit.
thicc.
the female characters dont have titties all over the place. even anne's boobs arent that big, which is good considering she is underage. the same cannot be said for many of the women in ezio's games.
guess who has a solid, interesting, and realistic personality. not kassandra or alexios thats for sure.
he is NOT moved by man pain (ezio, connor, bayek) to carry out his missions. he didn't want to be poor, he wanted to be able to provide for his family. he is just carrying out his dream to sail a ship. when he starts being "good", he is doing it out of guilt and shame on his past self (what, self reflection? someone, teach jacob this term), not because "wahh my girlfriend/mom/child/family died :'(", he wanted to make it up to his lost friends by making them proud and doing what they wished he had done. his regrets are in not being a better friend while mary was alive, not seeking out her killers (guards at fort). thatch's death crushed him, but he didn't thrust his anger on seeking revenge. and the characters that did die? they had personalities and development and were interesting and memorable. i cant tell you shit about cristina.
he is very respecting of women, especially for a white guy from the 1600s. he, as a teenager (under 17 i believe), attempted to save a woman he did not know and had no intentions of wooing (hey um ezio? you literally only were able to save cristina from being raped because you stalked her because you thought she was attractive. like thanks for saving her but uhh am i the only one that finds that creepy?) even though the odds of winning against three older men were stacked against him and he knew they could (and almost did) beat him to death. fuck if caroline wasnt there he would've been killed.
the modern day stuff is an excellent way to separate intense scenes and the little mini hacking games are fun puzzles. oh boohoo desmond isn't there? yes he was, half the things you hack literally give you desmond content.
rebecca's outfit fucking slaps.
from experience, its fun to play even if you dont know shit about the other ac games. pirates are cool and the story is easy to follow, just be prepared to find some of the other endings big letdowns or lots of the other games' missions boring.
is that fanservice that goes both ways but doesnt oversexualize any gender? why yes, it is!
stop reducing black flag to alcoholism jokes like yall constantly fucking do, it has so many other talking points and if you wanna make fun of something maybe choose something that isnt addiction. literally i make fun of edward constantly without pointing out his alcoholism it isnt that hard. if you're gonna make fun of edward for drinking rum when water in the 1700s often wasnt safe and making fun of him when he was depressed (he has multiple other intended self harming behaviors shown in game so no, he wasnt just drinking because its fun), why don't i see the same "wHy is aLL tHe WiNE gONe?" posts for arno? he was an alcoholic too. in fact arno and edward have a lot of the same forms of depression but oh, arno's a more serious character personality wise and isn't a pirate so his grieving isn't as funny.
and like, there are plenty of other things to make fun of with edward that might not make light of alcoholism because no, edward's drinking in the main story was not written to be a joke. here, a list of things i regularly make fun of him for:
this highwaisted man's got feminine hips
there is no reason for him to be that thicc
his bangs are a mess
his hair???? glows???? okay rapunzel.
his tatts that are just lines
actually you know what his tatts in general what do they mean ubisoft what even language are the words on his body in
how this whore opens the bottled messages on the beach. "ah yes, let me put this mysterious item in my mouth. i have no idea where its been. i could very well open it to read a note that says "i pissed on this""
"woman i just met... must respect her.. man i just met... im either going to give you a death threat, tease you, or flirt... sometimes multiple choices will be done......"
i mean he had the full right to be a bastard to walpole on the beach since he did try to be friendly but walpole was being to bitchy and needy. and like them being stranded wasnt edward's fault but walpole was still gonna make him build a ship and there is no reason for edward to trust walpole since after they get to havana he can easily just be like "thats a pirate, hang him." but like. the way he just immediately decides to steal his identity. legend.
why does he just blindly follow older men's orders like that
he trims his beard to a very odd location. i know it isn't a flattering pose but like. look at the underside of his jaw.
"how many references to dog behavior can we put in one character"
phobia of sleeping in a bed
"you saved my life i am eternally grateful."
edward are you seriously arguing with your eight year old daughter about the difference between a boat and a ship
where are your tanlines
how did he not die of skin cancer first
edward probably doesnt have any body hair because ubisoft didnt want his legs to glow in the dark too
look at his marooned outfit. bitch what the fuck is on your shirt. and where are your hair ties.
his dramatic beauty guru smokey eyes
he held that sword by the blade in the single madman quest. wh
anyway, the long run of this is, if you're gonna reblog an edward post from me specifically to make fun of an overused joke, go fuck yourself.

1. Which part of herself does Carol see in Daryl?  ||um same brokenness past and seeing that there’s good parts in him. He’s not like Merle and Ed. 2. Which part of himself does Daryl see in Carol?  ||They both know what it’s like to be abused and have an understanding. He sees strength in her. /...I think they slowly start to think they’re not alone on feeling like the odd one out or fighting to live before Apoc. They eventually think they’re a lot alike and connected right away. s1-s2. I guess they both started to grow at the same time and look after each other’s back ever since.
3. If there was no za and they met each other, would they be so close? Why?    ||Yeah I think so. But not so close or “early” on. Probably lil glimpse of like oh they’re alike and good people. But other things in the way...like Carol or Daryl be stuck in bad situations and die or something. Y’kno Daryl would’ve been like “mini Merle” or like.... dead from stopping a fight or prison. Carol could just be dead or lost herself from being with Ed. ...Unless they got away from their abusers :) I can see there’s a chance of them getting close.   *”mini Merle” I think I got this phrase wrong. Mini Merle is Merle’s hand weapon thing. I meant that Daryl would have become more damaged, lost, and be similar to Merle then. ..like a younger Merle.
4. How do you think, Alexandria's ppl ship them or they don’t care? Why?  || BTW, I think of what the writers want or had in mind.. Anyway, when Rlchonne happened or Abe and Sasha went canon, it just seems like very neutral whatever way. Well I guess the show isn’t that .. charactery and romantic. -_-  Anyway, I think they care and are supportive and of all Team family but mind their business. I think practically everyone knows about Caryl and their close relationship. I guess they’re like in the same boat as us or general fans. We would be happy if they get together but if not then like ....hmm you guys are so together~  Um..I guess people would be going WTF if Caryl grew apart.
5. AU: real life. Which one of them is more attractive to believe in supernatural stuff? Why?   || they both seem to be into that. erm I’ll say Daryl.
6. AU: real life. Which one of them is more attractive to send a lot of Red heartFace throwing a kissSmiling face with heart-shaped eyes and etc? Why?   || Carol is more open to display of affection. But Daryl got his heart on his sleeves. He’s straightforward tells/show you how he feels and means it.
13. What would do today's Carol if she met someone like Ed?  ||Probably she be able to stand up to him when he starts to be controlling and she speak out and say it’s not right. Idk..maybe them talking it out will make Ed change himself if he wants to. And she walks away from him early on. 14. If today's Carol met past Carol, what would she say to her?   ||You’re stronger than you think you are. You are enough. These hard times made her wiser in Apoc./life. She’s always a mother..when they’re gone, they’re still with her. 15. If today's Daryl met past Daryl, what would he say to him?    ||This doesn’t always have to be this way/Merle-life. You’re not alone. Good people will stick with you. Trust them. Your goodness matters. You don’t need to depend on Merle. If Merle wouldn’t change now then he won’t later on. Idk... Daryl is so loyal and to his brother. So it’s just he gotta let Merle/his past go. 16. Why does Daryl prefer the crossbow, not a bow?   ||I guess that’s what hunters like to use most often. Idk. 17. AU: real life. Which one of them is most likely to surfing in the Internet for hours? Why?   ||Carol because she mentioned internet in s4. lol Okay um yeah Carol I guess. I think she likes to research on things. Daryl is more outdoorsy kind of person. 18. AU: real life. Which one of them will have a private acc on social medias and who won’t care?   ||I think both would be private...or heck Daryl not private but barely any content. lol Just hunting, nature stuff and games.
19. AU: real life. Which one of them will send memes?   ||Carol because she like goofy or sassy jokes.
20. AU: real life.  What profession is suitable for Carol? Why?  ||hmm housewife, teacher, nurse, or something to look after the community.. She likes to cook but Idk if she likes to do it often. Some job to care about the people and place.
21. AU: real life. What profession is suitable for Daryl? Why? ||A hunter, mechanic, or construction worker. Something like hands-on job.
22. Which of them has a black sense of humor?   ||I think Carol have a dark/black sense of humor. Daryl is ..more less humor-y. more sarcastic. idk what im saying.
23. Had Daryl ever thought about having children? If he did, he would prefer boy or daughter?    ||I think he never really thought of it till he’s away from Merle/past life. But Idk I think he doesn’t really think on it. He just wants to protect all kids. He’s Uncle Daryl. I don’t think he has a preference.
24. Is Daryl asexual or demisexual? Or other? Why?    ||Read ? #10. I say so far it seems like he’s demisexual from what Kang said and from what people/fandom been always questioning him from the show and from that 6 years in woods plot. (Also the show isn’t that showy on romance and relationships so I didn’t think they would bother to address his romance/sexuality but they did so ok.) I guess I always think of him as demisexual...or someone who would be friends to lovers kind of person. He’s the closest with Carol so..slowburn to canon, yeah? /// This makes me think of Carol’s relationships and how she is fine having sex anytime ..no emotions involved way...She doesn’t really have or know a good emotional canon relationship except almost with Zeke, I guess. 25. Carol’s fav movie genre(s)? ||Romcoms <3
26. Daryl’s fav movie genre(s)?  ||action / horror :O 27. When the show ends, what kind of ending do you want for them?   ||I want good writing and that flows right. Caryl be Caryl. I guess them riding off to the sunset to New Mexico. Or..looking after team family in ASZ or TF working together to find/help Rick and living their best lives in a community. A happy ending pls. 28. Which one of them is good at math?  ||hmm Carol. Daryl would be good at reading..science.
29. If there was Caryl movie, what song(s) would you add to it?   || hmm a song to add, I would pick ..”You and Me” by Pink I think. Or, “X and Y” by Coldplay. Or, “Cosmic Love” by Florence Machine. 30. Did Daryl help you?   ||I really appreciate the writers and the acting did with Daryl and Carol. They’re really unique, interesting and relatable characters. Daryl helped me to keep being myself and do what’s right even when you feel odd ball out. Idk I also like that we see characters like Daryl and Carol what we stereotypical think they may be like in s1 but then we see they’re relatable and we can be more open minded to other people.  I liked that we see him getting a chance to grow and see how loyal he is. 31. Did Carol help you?  ||Yeah. I really like how she’s like I guess most people in s1, quiet, timid, not quite fit into the Apoc. world, but learns to trust herself, get braver and open up. She’s like so strong and brave now but it’s not surprising to see that in a way because we see her character development and I like how writers and acting, made it so relatable and realistic to me. We all can be like Carol. //I think she’s a great character to watch for mothers who lost kids or was a abused wife/person. Same with Daryl as a abused child/brother in that Merle’s lifestyle.
32. What did Caryl give you? Hope? Strength?  ||I really like what became Caryl in the show for years. They became one of my fave ships. They’re unique and I love that we see their strong bond and connection. They’re soulmatey and angsty. Idk I feel like they gave hope that there are people that will get you and have your back. And strength, they grown so much and made me think about myself to keep facing my fears and be in a healthy relationship. 33. Carol’s fav music genre(s)?   ||Country pop. Idk.. I think McReedus are into Rock music so. 34. Daryl’s fav music genre(s)?   ||Country rock. ...Idk Metal music.
35. Describe Carol in one word. ||Brave
36. Describe Daryl in one word. ||Loyal or uh a word that means does what he think is the right thing to do...and caring. Uncle.
37. What do you expect from them in season 11?  ||Idk I’m really clueless. TWD right now is really not by the comics anymore and it’s hard to speculate now. I’m kinda hoping they have something a plot that relates to taking care of the Grimes kids and a plot/s that relates to Rick’s journey/TWD show. Idk well I guess they be figuring it out what to do with Maggie and politics with the ..spoiler- new communities.
I hope for good writing and if they go canon, I hope they write good relationship/romance writing. As in they don’t separate them and break up a bunch of times or be boring. eek. I hope it’s like they still be like the subtle canon ship..like RIchonne as there is something else they have to do together. Like they be canon but they talk about the new plots/problems/family in s11 and their relationship grows.
38. Your favorite Caryl season(s)? Why?  ||It’s season 2 or s10. I feel it’s the most Caryl interaction and them deepening their relationship. 39. When do you think Daryl was ready to start a relationship? Or do you still think he isn't ready? Or he is ready rn?    ||Whenever the writers are ready. :\  I think as a character he’s ready...yeah especially s10. He’s not hiding and being emo in the woods in s9. He’s not the (Rick’s)sidekick character anymore. He’s I think grown a lot by being with people and opening up being a leader-like now, domestic?,leading character, and I think he’s now more ready to have romantic relationship if he wants to. And for Carol ..rn is like does she feel worthy or ok to have love again. ooh angst. 40. Which of them is owl, and which of them is lark? Why?  || I think Daryl is a lark/early bird because he likes the quietness and time to hunt, and Carol is a night owl because she likes to know what else is going on when it’s the dark.

Skam Austin Season 2 Review
Spoiler alert, obviously.
Honestly? This season surprised me, a lot. What started out as my least favourite season 2 remake somehow ended up being one of the ones I was most invested in? But let’s do this more systematically:
The good parts:
Grace wasn’t my favourite Noora and she still isn’t, but she definitely grew on me. Kennedy Hermansen surprised me a lot with her acting. She really sold all of Grace’s scenes and turned her into a really interesting and complex character.
I didn’t like Grace and Daniel together at all at first, but as soon as they started dating, I really enjoyed their scenes together? I think that scene of them eating fast food after their first kiss was the first scene of them together that I really liked. They seem like one of the healthiest versions of Noorhelm, which I would have never anticipated after season 1.
I was honestly so positively surprised by how well sex as a topic was handled. I mean, I had to laugh a little when Grace told Daniel about her ex-boyfriend and kept calling sex “it” (American sexual repression at its finest, I guess), but other than that, it was all done so well? I love how Daniel just instantly accepted that Grace didn’t want to have sex and never pushed her. I loved that she got to tell him about her past experiences and he was so understanding. And wow to that sex scene at the end. I would never have expected that Skam Austin would give us the second best and realistic sex scene in all the remakes. It was a bit messy? There was actual communication? It wasn’t perfect but they clearly both enjoyed it? I applaud you for that, Skam Austin.
Shoutout to Daniel saying “So I don’t have to keep asking?” when Grace told him that she’s ready. I don’t know why, but I really liked that. It feels like a very nice way to show teenagers how to ask for consent in a casual and good way. (It also feels like a bit of a fuck you to og for the awful “I know I should ask you if you’re ready but I don’t care” line.)
I think out of all the remakes, Skam Austin handled the SA storyline the best (apart from Daniel’s reaction to it, which was terrible). It was never brushed off as “nothing” and even at the very end, Grace acknowledged that she is not over it and that there will still be bad days, even if she is doing much better. And wow, Kennedy blew me away with her acting in all those scenes post-SA.
That storyline with Tyler. Wow. I love how they gave him depth and turned him into a really interesting and multidimensional character. (I’m so curious to see what we’ll think of him once we see him from Shay’s point of view.)
All the late clips. We love a remake that uses the real-life aspect cleverly.
I haven’t kept up with the social media as closely, but the stuff I saw was really good. I love how they use it to build up storylines and characterisation. And I love how there’s random posts that are just there and then there’s really meaningful stuff. Also, Shay’s secret Instagram account? Hell yes to that.
In general, I feel like Skam Austin really gets how teens act online? From that overheardbouldin account to Clout from Grandma’s Closet’s soundcloud, it’s just all so on point.
Clout from Grandma’s Closet is without a doubt the best thing to have come out of Skam Austin. (Their songs are really growing on me and I don’t know how to feel about that.)
I love how Grace’s article was actually posted online and people can read it without even watching the show? I generally like what they did with that storyline and how they actually had Grace write the article herself and made it really meaningful.
It was also a nice use of the “Be kind. Always” quote and I like how they made it mean something different to Grace than it meant to Noora. (It’s an overused quote, but Skam Austin sold it well.)
Kelsey’s character development was so good? She was pretty annoying at first, but I love how it all served a purpose and she really grew during the season. Please don’t fuck it up in season 4.
Zoya. She was far from my favourite Sana in season 1 (I couldn’t really place her as a character back then, if that makes sense), but wow, I loved her so much in this season. She really grew into her own, unique character. Before, I was mostly excited about Shay’s season, but now I really, really hope we get a Zoya season as well. She’s somehow so different from Sana but also so interesting? I feel like her story could bring so much to the show and to her character and it would be so different from Sana’s, but also so important.
I really like that Zoya had her own romance and how the girls treated it like any other romance. I’m not sure what I think about the resolution of the romance, but still, I enjoyed it. And I like that Hunter’s wasn’t portrayed as just the villain in the story, but it was actually solved (or not solved) in a complex way.
Jo. I love Jo so, so much. I think after Shay she’s my favourite character and I love how we got to see more of her this season. (Her Instagram content is fantastic, always.)
Jo and Damien are the cutest. What a glow up from Chris/Kaspar.
The girl squad in general was really cute this season. That clip where Grace told them about what happened? Potentially my favourite clip of the entire season. That was powerful.
While I absolutely hate that Shay suffered so much this season and that she was unhappy every single time we saw her, I don’t hate what they did with her? It does build up her season very nicely and I like that they recognised that the situation between her and Megan has to be different from all the other Eva/Isak situations. And I like that Shay called Megan out on her actions and just acted really mature about the situation in general. (I cannot stress enough how excited I am for Shay’s season. It’s gonna be good. It’s gonna be so good.)
The not so good parts:
I definitely think Daniel was one of the most manipulative Williams in the beginning and I didn’t like it at all. Comparing using Kelsey to get to Grace with Grace not going on a date with him after she told him she would? No, thanks.
I also really hate that they kept in his shitty reaction to finding out what happened with his brother. And that they kept in that whole “going away” storyline. That scene where he drove away somehow seemed even more cruel than in og? So yeah, really hated that.
While I enjoyed that it was clear from the very beginning that Grace was at least intrigued by Daniel, I would have liked if we’d seen why? I mean, it’s nice that she likes him back and doesn’t really hate going on a date with him, but you have to show your viewers why she likes him to make it believable. Grace just somehow liked Daniel without any indication of why she did.
As much as I liked Kelsey’s character development, I disliked that her eating disorder was only skimmed over and was suddenly resolved out of nowhere.
While I liked the prom queen storyline for the most part, I really hated that one scene with Abby? Was it really necessary to take away that one good thing from Zoya? Really?? I mean, I like that they’re already emphasising how she struggles in her everyday life (and hopefully, if she gets a season, the girls will be more supportive), but she deserves happiness as well. And having her win prom queen simply because she deserved it wouldn’t have made the storyline any less important.
What the hell was that scene with Megan and Marlon in the last clip? Stay far, far away from him, Megan. (There’s a small part of me that hopes that it will be addressed how bad Marlon is for Megan, because I just can’t believe that it’s not intentional that she starts drinking again as soon as she’s back with him, but my hopes are very low.)
I don’t think Eve hitting on Shay was the most terrible thing Skam Austin has ever done (a lot of the Eskild characters made similar comments on the Isaks, so it’s not unique to this remake, and it doesn’t really mean anything), but I also definitely didn’t like it. I don’t think Eve is Even (please, please, don’t be), but yeah, I hope this weird dynamic will be gone in season 3.
In general, the season definitely had it’s not so great parts, but it was quite a solid season 2 remake, I’d say. It had a lot of good and surprising parts and it improved so much in the second half. I hope that’s an indication of how good season 3 will be. (Which I’m not ready for, by the way. But I also can’t wait.)

Essay III: Get Out
For my third critical analysis essay on horror, I chose the contemporary movie, Get Out, directed by Jordan Peele. Horror is a broad spectrum, and the most effective pieces of horror find their success in playing off the insecurities of their audience.  This movie was considered a huge hit in its genre, and has such a unique and captivating story.  Get Out uses race and cultural differences to uncover the social failings of a society and to entertain at the same time. Using references from literary studies on the uncanny, zombies, and much more, this essay is going to take a deeper look into the power of genre and the cultural significance of this movie.
The first connection I was able to make to the coursework when watching this film was the similarity between the Haitian Zombie, and the way that the Armitage’s were able to create their own zombie slaves, if you will, through hypnosis. David Inglis provides a great definition of the zombie in his chapter Putting the Undead to Work: “The fear that is embodied in the Haitian figure of the zombie is not the Euro American one of the dead returning to visit a cannibalistic holocaust on the living, but rather involves dread of the body snatcher –the zombie master- who takes the living body and destroys the soul within it, creating a living dead being who endlessly obeys his will” (p. 42).  I think the term “body snatcher” can be easily applied to the work that the Armitage family was doing.  A perfect example would be the opening scene where the son throws a black man in the trunk of his car, who shows back up later at the garden party, but this time he does not seem to have his soul.  Following the same type of mentality as the witch doctor from White Zombie, the Armitage family is making slaves out of people, through hypnosis and surgery instead of magic, and selling them off as their own labor force.
Another connection I made after watching the movie was the sunken place (Chris’ hypnotized state) and the subconscious, to Freud’s ideas on the uncanny.  Freud gives an insightful explanation on the relationship between human consciousness and the uncanny: “If this really is the secret nature of the uncanny, we can understand why German usage allows the familiar to switch to its opposite, the uncanny, for this uncanny element is actually nothing new or strange, but something that was long familiar to the psyche and was estranged from it only through being repressed” (pg. 148). Exploiting Chris’ subconscious by bringing up the topic of his mother’s death, she is able to repress the part of his brain that makes him Chris.  After the initial hypnosis, she almost has complete control over him with her teacup. We see throughout the film that these people with someone else in their mind controlling their body and consciousness are brought to the surface when exposed to a camera flash.  Meaning there is some hope for these people that have been turned, but we also see that the man taken over by the grandfather kills himself as soon as he is freed from the distressing situation of living his life as a spectator.
The term used to describe these people once they’ve been hypnotized is the “sunken place.”  Once put in this trance, Chris finds his existence to be as the passenger of his own life, he screams and struggles and gets no result or reaction from the people around him.  The sunken place is meant to represent the oppression of the system, and how minorities find themselves trapped, screaming as hard as they can without being able to get any sort of communication across.  Peele was trying to make a statement about the underrepresentation of black people in the horror genre, and how he was upset with the stereotype of them always being the first ones to die off.  Thinking about the film in that light, Peele really turns the tables around, by not only having the black protagonist survive, but having to murder his way out of the house to freedom.
To bring this all back to the discussion of cultural significance, Get Out, tells a story of racism to a group of people that think racism is no longer a problem.  So what is it that makes this movie so powerful and such a good medium for a message that a nation desperately needs to hear?  Author Colin Dickey sheds some light on what separates good hauntings and horror from the sheep: “A paranormal event without a story is tenuous, fragile.  What makes it “real,” at least in a sense, is the story, the tale that grounds the event. The sense of the uncanny, of something not-quite-right, of things ever-so-slightly off, cries out for an explanation” (pg. 5).  Dickey explains to us that to deliver a message, especially to todays disconnected population, you have to ground the idea your trying to communicate with something that seems more interesting or entertaining to the masses.  Once you have captured their attention you are able to point out the reality and truth to them, the truth that they refuse to see by looking around.  Even genres of horror like the ghost hunters start off by establishing the history of the buildings they go through, as well as the tragic pasts of the ghosts they are trying to provoke.
Peele does an excellent job in Get Out of building suspense.  By creating those not-quite-right situations, as Dickey put it, he was able to use a realistic character.  Most horror films feature protagonists who are incredibly oblivious and don’t have the sense to pick up the phone and call the cops, or to get in the car and drive away. What is so brilliant about the suspense build up in Get Out, is that nothing too out of the ordinary happens that would make a rational person leave a girl he’s been dating for months, until its too late.
So what dose this movie say about our current situation as a nation? Looking at the bonus features on the film there was a Q&A panel with Jordan Peele and someone asked him about his favorite scene in the movie.  Peele responded, saying that he enjoyed the insecurities revealed in the garden party: “When you have older white people trying to connect with a younger black man the insecurities come out in a weird way.”  Watching the movie, you find out that the whole purpose of the garden party was for these people to evaluate the possibility of buying Chris at the auction, which only adds another theatrical layer to the racist situation on display. Every time Chris meets with a potential buyer they let out some awkward piece of conversation as their way of trying to connect with someone with racial and cultural differences.  All the other black people on the question panel agreed that this scene had a lot of truth behind it, and said that they do have to suffer through situations like this regularly
One of the biggest eye openers for me when I watched this movie is the character Rose.  She is a powerful persuader and a master of lies, and to me, she reveals the most about our culture’s divide when she tries to talk down Chris as a way to prove to him she and her family are not racist.  Rose will go on little tangents with Chris as her audience about her family having black servants, the way he was treated by a cop, or how her family and friends are just “so white.”  Hearing her overcompensate as a way to try and come off as sincere reminded me of the same thing I see on social media every day.  White people will see a video of police brutality on twitter and quote it with some witty caption and think that they have just made peace with the whole black community.  The way they go into great lengths online about civil rights and social responsibility reminded me of the same empty way that Rose would overcompensate so that her cover wouldn’t be blown.  I know that these people’s words are hallow because I spend time with them in real life and know for a fact that they are not actually doing anything to change the current situation, or to give up the privilege they’ve been born with.
Overall, this movie is a great tribute to its genre and does a great job reflecting national anxieties and problematic attitudes.  Watching this movie again after in class discussions about zombies and Haitian culture, I was able to notice a lot of parallels between Get Out and movies like White Zombie.  A lot of the ideas and theories presented in Freud’s The Uncanny, are revealed in this film.  Peele does a great job of building suspense in this movie while delivering a powerful message at the same time, and I would recommend this movie to any fan of Horror.

Hunter x Hunter: What is so special about Hunter Exams?
Hunter x Hunter is a story of a boy whose father is the world’s greatest hunter but ended up abandoning him just to achieve his goal. Now Gon Freeces, the 12-year-old boy wants to become just like his father and in the process find him. The life of hunters is not easy as they have to face many challenges and their job includes finding cons, animal and plant species as well as treasures and artefacts.
Tumblr media
To become a hunter, one has to take the hunter exam. It is during the first round of the exams that two new friends of Gon are introduced. Krupaika and Leoria both want desperately to become the hunter but for very different reasons. For Krupaika the exams matter a lot because he wants to become a hunter in order to find out the people who killed his clan and avenge their deaths while Leoria says he is only interested in money and fame. But Leoria wanted to become a hunter so that he can use the money to get himself through medical school. Unaware of his real motives Krupaika hates Leoria’s lame reasons for which sparks an argument between them. Hunter x Hunter successfully shows the many faces of the competition just by introducing three characters and their motivations for becoming a hunter.
In the first phase, the participants’ endurance is tested by making them run a marathon which seems unending. It is in this marathon; the show introduces us to another character Killua who is intrigued by Gon. They both hit it off, as they start competing with each other to complete the challenge first. But Killua seems like a very secretive character and appears to tell less than he knows.
Each challenge tests a new dimension of the participant’s personality. In the egg-retrieving challenge, the participants are tested over their wisdom as they realize that simply jumping would be suicidal and they have to take into account the updraft as well. Similarly, the hunters are asked to go through the Trick Tower in 24 hours which is full of traps and challenges which is made even tougher when they reach the top but are asked to leave two of the five friends that they reached the top with or they will have to take a much longer way to finish the challenge. Gon chooses the latter as his group finishes the challenge just in time.
In the next phase of the exam, the participants are given the role of hunter and prey. They are told that in order to win in this phase they have to steal the badge of their opponent. Gon is tasked to get the badge of a magician named Hisoka who is undoubtedly the toughest participant of the exam. Gon, aware of his weakness, trains for a few days before he eventually gets the badge of Hisoka but is not thrilled as he believes he has not really defeated him.
In the last phase of the exam, the participants are asked to make their opponents concede defeat and only in this way that they can win. This adds a different level of toughness to the competition as the participants were very adamant, so it was very hard to make anyone concede defeat. In this phase, Gon faces Hanzo who is a ninja. The fight turns out to be suicidal for Gon as he can hardly stand against Hanzo who is way tougher than him. Gon gives his best but Hanzo completely dominates him and breaks his arm. But Gon being the type of fighter that he is, refuses to give up. He shows great courage even in the face of death and makes for a mind boggling display of determination.
Tumblr media
Hunter x Hunter introduces different characters with different motivations for becoming the hunter in the hunter exam. This characterization is so perfect that it is hard to believe how beautifully it is done. The ambitions and fears of the characters make them look more realistic and relatable. It is hard to believe how beautifully it is done. As they go through their struggle to achieve their dreams, it does also remind the viewers of the dreams that they failed to pursue. But it also gives hope that it is never truly late to give it all to the ambitions that one cares about.

Article from WSJ: For the New Year, Say No to Negativity
Bad experiences affect us much more powerfully than good ones, but there are ways to deal with this destructive bias and overcome it
Tumblr media
JAMES YANG
By John Tierney and Roy F. Baumeister
Dec. 27, 2019
The new year is supposed to bring hope, but too often it feels grim. We resolve to be virtuous—to lose weight, to exercise, to unplug from social media—but we recall past failures and fear another losing struggle. We toast to a better, happier world in 2020, but we know there will be endless bad news and vitriol, especially this election year.
We could use a fresh approach. For 2020, here’s a resolution that could actually work: Go on a low-bad diet.
Our minds and lives are skewed by a fundamental imbalance that is just now becoming clear to scientists: the negativity effect. Also known as the negativity bias, it’s the universal tendency for bad events and emotions to affect us more strongly than positive ones. We’re devastated by a word of criticism but unmoved by a shower of praise. We see the hostile face in the crowd and miss all the friendly smiles. We focus so much on bad news, especially in a digital world that magnifies its power, that we don’t realize how much better life is becoming for people around the world.
The negativity effect sounds depressing—and it often is—but it doesn’t have to be the end of the story. By recognizing it and overriding our innate responses, we can break destructive patterns, make smarter decisions, see the world more realistically and also exploit the benefits of this bias. Bad is stronger than good, but good can prevail if we know what we’re up against.
Our brain’s negativity bias evolved because it is a survival mechanism. But what worked for our ancestral hunter-gatherers doesn’t always work for us.
The negativity effect is a fundamental aspect of psychology, yet it was discovered only in the past two decades and quite unexpectedly, as social scientists became intrigued by a couple of patterns. Psychologists studying people’s reactions had found that a bad first impression had a much greater impact than a good first impression, and experiments by behavioral economists had shown that a financial loss loomed much larger than a corresponding financial gain.
What gave bad its greater power? To investigate, the social psychologist Roy Baumeister (co-author of this piece) and colleagues at Case Western University looked for situations in which bad events didn’t have such a strong impact. They proposed to “identify several contrary patterns” that would enable them to “develop an elaborate, complex and nuanced theory about when bad is stronger versus when good is stronger.”
But they couldn’t. To their surprise, despite scouring the research literature in psychology, sociology, economics, anthropology and other disciplines, they couldn’t find compelling counterexamples of good being stronger.
Studies showed that bad health or bad parenting makes much more difference than good health or good parenting. A negative image (a photograph of a dead animal) stimulates more electrical activity in the brain than does a positive image (a bowl of chocolate ice cream). The pain of criticism is much stronger than the pleasure of praise. A single bad event can produce lifelong trauma, but there is no psychological term for the opposite of trauma because no good event has such a lasting impact.
The psychologists had discovered a major phenomenon, one that extended into so many different fields that the overall pattern had escaped notice. While writing up the results, Dr. Baumeister happened to visit the University of Pennsylvania and learned that a psychologist there, Paul Rozin, was also working on a paper about this effect, and they agreed to share credit in 2001 by publishing their findings simultaneously. Dr. Rozin’s paper, “Negativity Bias, Negativity Dominance and Contagion,” co-written with Edward Royzman, was published in the journal Personality and Social Psychology Review. Dr. Baumeister’s paper, co-authored with Ellen Bratslavsky, Kathleen Vohs and Catrin Finkenauer, was published in the Review of General Psychology and titled simply “Bad Is Stronger Than Good.”
Both are now among the most cited papers in the social-science literature. They’ve inspired psychologists and a wide range of other researchers to conduct hundreds of studies of the negativity effect, discovering it in new places, analyzing its effects and testing ways to exploit it when it’s useful and overcome it when it’s not.
Tumblr media
Our brain’s negativity bias evolved because it is a survival mechanism. On our ancestral savanna, the hunter-gatherers who passed on their genes were the ones who paid more attention to threats (like poisonous berries or predatory lions) than to the good things in life. This bias is still useful—one mistake can still be fatal—but what worked for hunter-gatherers doesn’t always work for us.
The urge to load up on fattening calories was useful in lean times on the savanna, but it can lead to obesity and ill health when junk food is available to tempt you all day long. Today we’re assailed around the clock by the merchants of bad. Politicians and journalists tap into primal emotions by hyping threats from nature, technology, foreigners, political opponents—whatever will instantly trigger the brain’s alarm circuits. The presidency of Donald Trump has been a ratings bonanza because it has brought out the worst on both sides. Rarely a week goes by without some new warning that civilization is doomed.
Once psychologists identified the negativity effect, they realized it had been distorting their own profession for a century. Because negative events had stronger effects, these phenomena were easier to distinguish and measure than positive ones, so psychology journals and textbooks had devoted more than twice as much space to analyzing problems than to identifying sources of happiness and well-being. The research was further distorted when it reached the public, because it was filtered through journalists eager for news with the most immediate impact—which, of course, meant bad news.
So the public learned lots about psychoses and depression but precious little about the mind’s resilience and capacity for happiness. Post-traumatic stress disorder became common knowledge but not the concept of post-traumatic growth, which is actually far more common. Most people who undergo trauma ultimately feel that the experience has made them a stronger and better person.
After recognizing their own bias, psychologists began compensating for it by studying the “positivity ratio,” which is the number of good events or emotions for every bad one. Researchers saw that older people are typically more contented than younger people because they’ve learned how to improve this ratio in their lives. They’ve gone on a low-bad diet, and that general approach can work for people of all ages. Here are a few strategies:
First, do no harm. We pride ourselves on the many good things we do for our family and friends, or for going the extra mile in pleasing customers and clients, but what really matters is what we don’t do. Avoiding bad is far more important than doing good. You get relatively little credit for doing more than you promised, but you pay a big price for falling short.
By tracking couples over time, psychologists have found that the success of marriages depends mainly on the frequency of negative interactions and how people deal with negativity. In marriages destined for success, people overlook their spouse’s flaws, maintaining what researchers call “positive illusions.” When something goes wrong, they either give their spouse the benefit of the doubt or respond calmly so as not to escalate the conflict. In marriages that fail, people assume the worst and respond angrily—and because bad emotions are so powerful and contagious, a minor argument can quickly spiral into a major fight.
Minimizing the negative is similarly crucial in business. Angry customers can have such a disproportionate impact—especially the ones who post online reviews—that market researchers refer to them as “terrorists.” Research into the varieties of “bad apples” in the workplace has shown that the performance of a team depends not on the average of its members’ abilities but rather on the ability of the worst member. Several stars can’t compensate for a dud.
Remember the Rule of Four. Many studies—of spouses’ interactions, people’s diaries, workers’ moods, customers’ ratings—have shown that a negative event or emotion usually has at least three times the impact of a comparable positive one. So to come out ahead, we suggest keeping in mind the Rule of Four: It takes four good things to overcome one bad thing.
Tumblr media
This is a rule of thumb, not a universal law of nature. It doesn’t apply to every person in every situation, but it’s a useful gauge of well-being and progress. If you and your partner are having sex four times more often than you fight, that’s probably a healthy relationship. If you want to keep your business afloat, aim for at least four satisfied customers for every unsatisfied one. If you have four good days at work from Monday to Thursday, that’s usually enough to make up for a bad Friday. (Obviously, that 4-to-1 ratio wouldn’t be much comfort if on Friday you get fired, but that wouldn’t be a typical week.)
Keep that ratio in mind when considering the impact of your actions. If you’re late for one meeting, you won’t redeem yourself by being early the next time. If you say or do something hurtful, don’t expect to atone for it with one bit of goodwill. Plan on at least four compliments to make up for one bit of criticism.
Put the bad moments to good use. Instead of despairing at a setback, override your gut reaction and look for a useful lesson. The upside of the negativity effect is its power to teach and motivate. Penalties are usually more effective than rewards at spurring students and workers to improve. They’re also more effective in motivating sinners to repent, which is why hell-fearing religions have historically grown faster than ones preaching a benevolent message.
The self-esteem movement—one of the sorrier mistakes in psychology—left many parents reluctant to criticize or penalize children, and the everybody-gets-a-trophy philosophy has produced rampant grade inflation in high school and college. Students routinely get As and Bs for mediocre or poor work, so they’re learning less than in the past. No one likes getting—or handing out—bad grades, but these force the students to focus on what needs to be improved.
Capitalize on the good moments—and then relive them. Of all of Mark Twain’s aphorisms, the one with the most empirical support is a bit of wisdom from the title character of Pudd’nhead Wilson: “To get the full value of a joy, you must have somebody to divide it with.” Psychologists call it capitalization and have found that sharing good news is one of the most effective ways to become happier—but only if the other person responds enthusiastically, so make sure you rejoice in your friend’s good fortune (or at least fake it).
Sharing good news makes the triumph more significant, so it’s more likely to be recalled later, which is another proven way to boost happiness. Engaging in nostalgia was long considered a sign of depression, but experimenters have repeatedly found it’s a tool not just for appreciating the past but also for brightening both the present and the future. One reason that happiness increases beyond middle age is that older people spend more time savoring good memories instead of obsessing about today’s worries.
Tumblr media
See the big picture. Just about every measure of human welfare is improving except one: hope. The better life gets, the gloomier our worldview. In international surveys, it’s the rich who sound the most pessimistic—and the worst informed. The global rate of poverty has declined by two thirds in recent decades, but most people in affluent countries think it has remained steady or gotten worse. Crime has plummeted in the U.S., but most Americans think it has risen because they see so much mayhem on their screens.
The same basic approaches for dealing with the power of bad in your personal relationships and business—minimize the negative, accentuate the positive—can help you to overcome the negative bias that skews politics and public opinion. When there’s a school shooting or a terrorist attack, don’t wallow for hours watching the live coverage. When politicians and pundits are attacking each other, switch channels. By choosing your online friends carefully and curating your news feed, you can follow the Rule of Four—at least four uplifting stories for every bad one—and get a much more accurate view of the world.
By rationally looking at long-term trends instead of viscerally reacting to the horror story of the day, you’ll see that there’s much more to celebrate than to mourn. No matter what disasters occur in 2020, no matter who wins the presidential election, the average person in America and the rest of the world will in all likelihood become healthier and wealthier. Those who go on a low-bad diet will also become wiser—and happier, too.

Skip Tracing: The subtle art of ‘finding’ customers for your business
Tumblr media
He vanished into thin air. Even his family failed to know his whereabouts. They searched for him everywhere, at his friends’, at the joints he frequented. But there wasn’t a trace of him. As if he never existed before or walked on the very face of this planet. Friends and family were panicking, and people were looking for him to no avail until they hired a skip tracing service provider!
What does Skip Tracing Mean?
A more technical term for bounty hunters, Wikipedia explains a skip tracing professional as someone who locates the person of interest who doesn’t want to be found or has ‘skipped’ town. This someone in a filmy scenario could be a journalist, a police officer, a private investigator, a lawyer or a bail bondsman.
But in a more realistic setting or business ecosystem, that someone is your dedicated skip tracing expert in a data mining company. Helping you to drive sales home by acquiring accurate information of your prospective customers and generating leads, this process involves scouring through the digital footprints in painstaking detail.
Gone are the days when businesses could rely on the letter-to-lottery approach. People change jobs. People change their location for various reasons and businesses can’t hope to send an e-mail and wait for clicks anymore. Skip tracing services help your marketing efforts to be on-point and give the much-needed shift to the business strategy. A professional would put his Sherlock Holmes type skills and Herculean efforts to dig in-depth into multiple databases to reveal the relevant information.
How does Skip Tracing Services Work?
Using the preliminary information of your business, the skip tracing process involves e-mail address search, looking for location, active phone numbers, social media profiles and online buying behaviour. Some of the free and popular skip tracing tools are blogs, online directories, e-mail checkers, search engines, social media profiles and many more. However, free tools have limitations and more often than not, one needs to do advanced research to find out the correct information to reach out to their customers.
Where can one utilize skip tracing services?
Many businesses are embracing skip tracing as the new-age phenomena to counter information overload, inaccurate data and missing behavioural aspects of your target group. Not only this can help you to reach out to your customers but also reduce the sales funnel considerably. Skip tracing means validating the data and demographic aspects available on the target group and making sure that the data is accurate and relevant.
Some of the domains that have cut to the chase and escaped the humdrum of old-world send-and-forget-it direct marketing, are as follow:
· Real Estate
· Lead Generation
· Business Houses with B-2-C services
· Debt Collection
· Sales Marketing
· Start-ups and online marketplaces
Harvest the power of skip tracing services and never lose a customer. Know how you can reach them. If you want to know more, contact us now!

The Bold Type Binge Watch Recap #TheBoldTypeChat “A Must Watch Series.”
I have seen the commercial for this show, and I am like, should I watch, it does look impressive, and I never got around to watching. I am sitting down at 2 am this morning bore and so I said ok, I'd give it a try and 8 hours later I am all about “The Bold Type.” I got hooked the first episode and could not stop watching; it was refreshing, fun, excited, current, and inspirational. Now enough about me and my feeling let me tell you about the show and three gorgeous ladies that makes you think “Am I even living.
Show Summary The series is centered around three best friends who met and works for the same Magazine “Scarlet” for the past four years. Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens from Faking it) Kat (Aisha Dee from Chasing Life and Sweet/Vicious), and Sutton (Meghann Fahy from One Life to Live). Scarlet, a global women's magazine which is run by the powerful and fierce Jacqueline Carlyle (Melora Hardin from Transparent) The show will explore these three friends adventurous in New York City how will they make their voices heard as they explore their sexuality, identity, love, and fashion.
Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens from Faking it) Aka The Meticulous
Jane loves her job at Scarlet and with her new promotion come writer her journey begins. Jane’s first assignment is not at all what she expected because I would consider her as meticulous and she had something else in mind for what her writing role at Scarlet would be, but it was not the case. Jane first assignment is very personal and unsettling mostly because it was about her ex-boyfriend who broke up with her and Jane has not gotten closer. Thanks to Jackie she now has to confront the situation, Jane meets Kat and Sutton in their usual spot “Scarlet’s clothes closet, that I wish to mine,” and they decided to help Jane confront her ex and not fail on her first writing assignment. “How to stalk your unstalkable ex-boyfriend.” She got closer after stalking him for a few days. Jane and Sutton encourage her Kat to spend time with Adena to find out more about her character. Kat agrees and goes on a walk with Adena, the night was going beautiful but end up with Kat been arrested after an altercation with a man made a racist remark towards Adena.
Carol could just be dead or lost herself from being with Ed. ...Unless they got away from their abusers :)
Why?   ||hmm they both seem to be into that. erm I’ll say Daryl.
6. AU: real life. Which one of them is more attractive to send a lot of Red heartFace throwing a kissSmiling face with heart-shaped eyes and etc? Why?   || Carol is more open to display of affection. But Daryl got hearts on his sleeves. He’s straightforward tells/show you how he feels and means it.
13. What would do today's Carol if she met someone like Ed?  ||Probably be able to stand up to him when he starts to be controlling and she speak out and say it’s not right. Idk..maybe them talking it out will make Ed change himself if he wants to.
I don’t think he has preference.
Or, X and Y by Coldplay. Or, Cosmic Love by Florence Machine. //I think she’s a great character to watch for mothers who lost kids or was a abused wife.

The 3rd Annual Trans* Youth Forum: An enriching, educational, and hopeful experience
Tumblr media
The 3rd annual Trans* Youth Forum held at Rutger’s University’s Livingston Student Center made a huge impact this past weekend, May 20, sponsored by GLSEN Central New Jersey and HiTOPS.
With a similar layout to that of the GSA* Forum held every fall, the Trans* Youth Forum brings forth the fight for transgender peoples and different gender identities and expressions. Workshops built to not only open hearts and minds are here to educate, empower, expand, and show love to Trans* youth, parents, allies, adults, educators, administrators, students, etc. The power of this forum is to engage and show that these students are not alone and have rights.
As keynote Christine Hamlett said, “Be resilient—never give up.”
Hamlett, a graduate of William Paterson University, receiving her B.A. in history, to then receiving her M.A. in Student Personnel Services from Montclair University and State Certification as a Supervisor of Education Administration from Kean University is a force to be reckoned with. Hamlett, a proud transgender woman of color,  has been teaching for 30 years, all the while supporting her community in strength and prosperity.
The passion filled activist said that her message to the youth here today from her workshop titled, “Engaging Gender Justice for All” to her keynote speech, is, “That you can make a difference when you live your life.”
The forum tackled many issues that affect the trans* community, in particular, politics. One of the session one workshops, titled, “Building Communities Through Action in Politics” was run by one up and coming politician who shall not be named in this article, and Richard Green III, both from the Middlesex County Democrats organization LGBTQ caucus and LGBTQ State Caucus.
The workshop delved into some political knowledge that some may not be aware of. For example, we discussed the Primary election and how the voting for the Primary works. For one, always make sure you are registered to vote 30 days before the primary election.
“If you are registered to vote, you can always vote,” said one of the presenters.
However, one of the audience members discussed how she went to vote in the Primary election but was turned away as she is registered as unaffiliated. However, as long as you register in the chosen party you are voting in when you go to vote, you should be able to vote and then change your affiliation back once you have.
“I went to vote with my mom who is registered as a democrat. I had to declare a party to vote but no one said that I could do that,” said Eboni Gadsoa, 23, of Burlington.
Gadsoa did not get to vote in the primary election because she was given incorrect information about what one was to do in order to vote in the primary. If this ever happens to you, always know your rights and know that there are always provisional lawyers to clarify the situation. Call 866-OUR-VOTE if you ever need this kind of assistance.
It was really quite a special day continuing forward, for many of the youth that were participating in the day’s activities were not only well educated, but also came off as strong and confident.
During session two, in Christine Hamlett’s workshop we discussed the lives of transgender peoples and how the media does not show the truth of what it means to be transgender. Hamlett has been following Gavin Grimm, a 17-year-old from Gloucester, VA, fighting for trans* rights, in having gender neutral bathrooms. Grimm’s case went to the Supreme Court, but has most recently been denied a hearing earlier this March.
The workshop discussed the unfavorable representation of transgender people in the media and in television shows such as Transparent, for people are not as so welcoming to trans* people as shows such as Transparent come to make transgender people seem to those who are uneducated about transgender people.
Hamlett discussed how 1/4 transgender peoples will be drawn into sex work, for there is injustice at every turn. Despite 40 percent of transgender adults attempting suicide and 92 percent attempting suicide before the age of 25, as shared by The Trevor Project, many transgender people are kicked out of their home and discriminated against in their communities where sex work ends up being the only realm of life that may support them.
In fact, one audience member in Hamlet’s workshop discusses the type of questions she would have to receive at her job as transgender, having been asked questions along the lines of, “So… did it hurt?” This question was related to the teens “implants” that she does not have, and “Did you get a sex change operation?”
Hamlett shows her workshop audience the struggle of being transgender and stories of transgender people and their truth of what the struggle of being transgender means. One example is Lourdes Ashley Hunter:
Trans woman of color, Lourdes Ashley Hunter, the director of Trans Women of Color Collective, tells the Retroreport that the narrative of being trans and trans of color is far more disheartening than our mainstream likes to show. To give an example of what this may mean: It is beautiful to have an out Caitlyn Jenner, but her struggle does not tell the struggle of the transgender community whatsoever, for her privilege is not realistic amongst the communities of our nation and around the world. Also, where Caitlyn Jenner started her journey off about her physical appearance, most trans people are just trying to make it through the day, trying to wrap their chests without harming themselves, trying to go to school or use the bathroom without any form of sexual harassment.
hrc.org (known as The Human Rights Campaign shares: “Sadly, 2016 has already seen at least 22 transgender people fatally shot, stabbed and killed by other violent means. As HRC continues to work toward justice and equality for transgender people, we mourn those we have lost.”
Hunter herself was homeless and assigned to a men’s shelter where she was later raped and then blamed for her rape. The narrative of most transgender people is pain.
We discussed why it is people oppose trans rights in session one and Richard Green III said that emotion and lack of understanding get in the way, and if we had social education, the barriers would be cut down.
When Hamlett and her co-keynote Jiselle Madison Parker, creative collaborator, humanist, entrepreneur (CEO of founder of Genderfabulous, a platform and community that aims to provide resources, support, inclusivity, and safety for women of all genders), and activist who has also dedicated her life to LGBTQIA+ people of color and socioeconomically oppressed peoples, talked about their personal struggles, oppression, and prosperity.
“No one will leave you because I will always be here,” Parker continues, discussing her self love in the face of rejection, “I held myself tighter—you are worthy,” she says to her inner child. “Your crown is already paid for. Every trans person who has ever walked the Earth is with you.”
Pandora Scooter, co-host to Daniel Fernandez of HiTOPs, well known spoken word artist, and activist, sat with the keynotes asking them both questions: ‘What are struggles you’ve faced as transgender people of color?’ She asks.
Hamlett discusses the overwhelming discrimination for being poor, black and trans. She said that you can strive.
“When I’m faced with an intersection, I know to go forward,” said Hamlett.
On stage, they mention that the average life expectancy for a black trans woman, which is 35-years-old, as well as asking the question of what about people, youth, dealing with privilege?
“Accountability,” responds Parker, “I think people have to be accountable—they have to take ownership.”
The day was incredibly inspiring to many of the participants, and workshop presenters of the forum:
“I just really love being a part of a community as strong and proud as this one, and this [The Trans* Youth Forum] is a good example of that,” said 18-year-old Mack Massey from Riverside.
“I feel enlightened to know people were seeing the work we’ve done; for people to open up themselves and share about themselves. I’m excited to learn from people around us,” said 26-year-old Steph Salvador from activist group What’s Your Gender? More Than Just a Letter, an art activist group showing the variance in gender identity, gender expression, androgyny, transgender peoples, amongst the LGBTQIA+ community through photography, videography, writing, and discussion with people all over the community. The group’s goal is to show that sometimes our expressions go beyond a label and a letter.
