"I was thinking, 'Nancy Wheeler, she’s not just another suburban girl who thinks she’s rebelling by doing exactly what every other suburban girl does... until that phase passes and they marry some boring one-time jock who now works sales, and they live out a perfectly boring little life at the end of a cul-de-sac. Exactly like their parents, who they thought were so depressing, but now, hey, they get it.'"

The way this scene, this quote, has such a chokehold on the Stranger Things fandom to the point that most people refuse to let Steve or Nancy out of the box it pigeonholes them into. I'm always so baffled when people reference it as ✨proof✨ that they shouldn't get back together.

First of all, what Jonathan is doing here is projecting. Big time. He barely even knows Nancy at this point (beyond being his brother's friend's sister) but he's got this idealized version of her in his head and this, you know, Nice Guy complex that makes him think he knows the Real True Nancy, that he's the guy who really sees her for who she is and not who she pretends to be. He says as much to defend his picture taking. "I saw this girl, you know, trying to be someone else. But for that moment, it was like you were alone, or you thought you were. And, you know, you could just be yourself." Which, again, lemme repeat that he barely even knows her.

BUT ACTUALLY. The reason Jonathan is so disparaging is because he has this annihilistic approach to romance/marriage/happily-ever-afters in general based on his own experiences that have NOTHINGGGG to do with who he's even perceiving Nancy to be here. Case in point, fast-forward to season 4. Even when him and Nancy are dating and seemingly headed toward a lifetime together, he can't help but think they'll end up just like his parents based off of nothing but the fact that he doesn't want to go to the same college as her: "the cycle never ends." This is why I say Jonathan was projecting in the scene above. Not because he's full of bullshit but because, first and foremost, he already has trouble believing happy marriages can exist in the first place. So surely Nancy is just going through the motions with Steve, and of course that's just going to lead to resentment. That's the end result, right? Regardless of whether she's dating Steve or with Jonathan himself, it's the ending he assigns to both relationships.

It's also worth noting that, at this point in time, only 5 episodes into the first season, there is definitely a lot of truth in what Jonathan's implying about Steve and Nancy's relationship. Steve's still King Steve at this point, he's only just starting to crawl forward, he hasn't even gotten the thunk on the head he credited Nancy with giving him. So, yeah, it's very easy for Nancy to hear this superficial reading of her and Steve's relationship and want to rebel against it because, at that point, at that exact moment in time, her and Steve very well could have headed down that path.

But the thing is, what you can apply to these s1 characters (by way of this scene) is no longer applicable to their s4 characters - at least where Steve and Nancy are concerned. Nancy once admitted she didn't want to be trapped in a loveless marriage that ended with a cul-de-sac and a husband too checked out to look up from the newspaper. Great news is, that version of who Steve could've been no longer exists. Steve is now the guy who shows up when Nancy is first feeling adrift (present instead of distant,) he's the guy hoping to tag along on her investigative quests (interested instead of dismissive,) he's the guy literally leaping headfirst into danger (active instead of passive,) he's the one holding onto her with both hands during her Vecna mindfuck, he's at her side the entire time once they reunite.

So.

If ever there was a point being made about s1 Steve's incompatibility with Nancy by way of his early-on passivity, then SURELYYYYY there is something to be said about how directly involved s4 Steve was in aiding Nancy and what that says about their CURRENT compatibility.

John, Lies and Trust, and the Dark World Pt.2

Part 1:

The Dark World

That's the part where I get very emotional for many reasons.

First time was bad enough to become what appears to be a life-long trauma and the worst nightmare John's terrified to death about. But THIS time he experienced a close bond with someone, learned what not being alone feels like, reshaped his mind to be more human-like... and lost all that. He was in the worst place in all the worlds, alone, again. Somewhere he'd give almost anything to never be. Unfamiliar horrors are one thing, but it's entirely different when you went through hell, know exactly how unbearable it is, and then you have to go through this again. Knowing how it would feel. This is devastating. And that's the first blow.

The second hit is that if I understand it correctly, ending up in the Dark World is fate worse than death because you cannot die there. As I get it, things there are already dead. So if a god - fine, a piece of a god, doesn't matter in this case, - ends up there, and gods are immortal, they have to endure this indefinitely, most likely forever, with no hope to escape. As if the very nature of the Dark World was not bad enough, the worst thing about being there this time was that it went on and on and on, the horrors didn't just happen one or a many times, they kept happening with no end in sight. Before there was at least a book. Now there was nothing. So no matter how long John held to his newfound principles and determination... anyone would run out of this eventually. I'm not surprised he rolled back to the old ways. By its description, the Dark World is not a nice and welcoming place. And, like I said, John wants to live and couldn't die there anyway, so he had to preserve what he could. He had to survive, and a survival mode is never pretty. We don't know what exactly he had to do there - on his own and for Kayne??? - but judging by the way he was in s3 I think we can confidently say one thing: he didn't enjoy any of it, and that's important. I'll get back to this later, but mention that Arthur in his survival mode is pretty terrible either.

Now we enter the territory of questions and assumptions, but still. I wondered if John had some hope - certainly not much, but some - that Arthur would get him out of there, like the first time? Or that when Arthur dies, they'll at least meet each other? John knows that together they can endure any horrors. Almost anything feels more bearable when you aren't alone in this. When it isn't lonely. But no one came. John was abandoned, completely, for good. @keykidpilipili mentioned how this situation with the Dark World is similar to Aqua's in KH, I went to watch the scenes with her and I think they really deliver exactly how unbearable this is and why. What makes me think I'm not just making things up is the fact that Arthur heard his voice during one of his first NDEs. What if it actually was John, calling from the Dark World, desperate for any glimpse of hope and companionship? Cry with me And then in s3 Arthur really says it. "How about we find each other if we end up there". Gods, my heart.

One last thing. Whatever happened there, however long it lasted, whatever John had to give up and lose there... he kept his promise. He never forgot his one and only friend, never stopped keeping him dear. And I think it's another important thing not only about John and how much his whole personality is built around being true and genuine, but also about their relationship.

Yes, to me John is about truth and not lies. His reationship with both is complicated, but... when one builds themselves up as they go, not knowing who they are yet, only exploring the concept and the limits, lies tend to really confuse them. John hates being misjudged, called by any other name than the one he chose himself, when others say things about him which are simply not true as if they knew better. He's going in a full rage mode immediately. Oh how much I understand you in this, pal. It's important for him to distinguish the truth - what actually is there, and about himself as well, - from lies, assumptions and illusions. Important to keep them apart.

But, again, when he's backed into a corner, he'd revert to lies as one of the escape means, hating every moment of it. It's a survival tactic for him - a bad one, but one of the most familiar as it seems, and therefore nearly automatic, like a knee jerk reflex. It's also the last resort.

the very fact that they played the bootroom breakdown/almost kiss in 3x11 as a joke tells me that we're definitely only getting subtext OT3. And now I need to find that interview from like season 2 where Phil was like, 'yeah they should all be together but this one [roy] is the obstacle...' and I was like, so true bestie, making roy canonically not-straight is probably the thread that is holding the writers back

Well, making Roy queer is the least of their problems in my opinion. If they wanted to, they could do it in s3 with him realizing his sexuality. Like, he's already spending most of his free time with Jamie, I think it's only natural for Roy to be "Oh? Oh..." Like, one kiss from Jamie in that same boot scene, but Roy isn't pulling back. He just stands there with a confused expression while Jamie absolutely does not acknowledge the kiss and continues wailing, and Roy continues to hug him with the 'Wait, what— what was that?"

And as he thinks on it, he realizes that he wasn't actually against it but it was so brief, he needs it to be repeated to understand how he actually feels. An actual kiss for him the next time & he's the one who goes for it, catching Jamie off guard. And he tries again and again, and realizes that he actually quite likes it.

Like, it's actually so easy to do imo, and in so many possible ways! Realizing your sexuality is often a journey & Roy, in some way, went through it. However, I'm not sure if the writers have the balls for ot3 endgame. Would be amazing, but then people are already raging about us shippers being delusional and needing to get back to 'writing porn'.

If s4 isn't happening, I don't think getting a strong base for a possible ot3 is that bad. Sure, I'd love for it to be canon and acknowledged. Sure, they could've went for it a long time ago. But as is now, it's actually pretty logical: s1 JamieKeeley, s2 RoyKeeley, s3 RoyJamie. S4 RJK but alas. 🙃 We'll see on Wednesday what they leave us with. I don't have much hope, but maybe they'll surprise us with some really good setup there.

el and mike are soo 😭 there is something so lovely about love that blossoms from childhood whether or not it lasts (whatever that means) because mike and el’s foundations (imo) are built on kindness and just the earnest desire to make and keep a friend (!!!!) and thinking abt the fact that the duffers said s5 will involve a time jump, if I were to imagine what mike and el would look like as adults together like if their dynamic will hold up without the warm film of childhood … I honestly think it does/will. there’s something so wonderful about love that has settled or has been allowed to by time — and when a partnership begins from being children together? tbh it rarely works out but when it does it DOES.. idk how the season is gonna end, where everyone will end up.. but I hope sincerely that it does so so that the next one can begin with el and mike, slightly older and more settled and together underlined in bold. I think that dynamic will be so interesting to see actually play out! we got to see what a more adult conversation with them kind of looks like this season but and I loved it bc it felt authentic but that happened on shaky ground, and at 14 with their relationship a little wobbly. on a normal wednesday afternoon what do 17-18 year old mike and el talk about? what does that look like? I legit just can’t wait to see them talking lol anyways! I hope they aren’t kept apart at the end of the season again! the novelty is wearing off

Anon, it's like you reached into my head and pulled out all my words and thoughts. I love that we get to see Mike and El's relationship progress and develop over time, love that we get to grow with them. Their conversation/argument this season was so good because it was so real and so authentic, just a sign of them learning how to grow together and give each other what they need. They're not there yet - especially because they got interrupted by the police - but they'll get there. Their story arc isn't finished and we'll just have to wait until vol 2 to see it resolve.

But your point about what they'll look like in s5 (especially if there's a time jump) really made me step back and look at the overall progression we've gotten from them since the beginning.

S1: realizing they like each other/have feelings for each other

S2: deciding to stay dedicated to each other despite being separated, reuniting and then deciding to be together in a relationship

S3: figuring out what it means to be in a relationship and how to balance that with other aspects of their lives

S4: figuring out how to grow and communicate in a relationship given realistic challenges (long distance, growing up, etc).

So I feel like, by S5, their main "challenge" will be maintaining their growth, not backsliding, continuing to remember to communicate and balance their lives with each other and with their friends/family (pretty much literally what almost every couple wrestles with in real life).

So I don't see them being separated again (and not just because I hope they don't do this because it is getting very very tiresome). I can also see the Duffers wanting to have S5, dynamics wise, feel the most like S1, give the audience that nostalgic feeling as part of its swan song. So keeping Mike and El in the same storyline, have them share the majority of their scenes together, etc etc etc.

I also just want to see them be a mature couple, by which I mean they're sure of what they feel for each other, the "honeymoon" phase has worn off, and they're able to balance being together with other aspects of their lives even if they prefer at times to be alone with each other. I want to see them having soft conversations and just getting to enjoy being together given everything they've learned and experienced to get to this point.

So, to sum up: JUST GIVE ME SETTLED AND SECURE MILEVEN PLS. I don't even need it to be a main focus of the story! I just want it to be a real thing while the plot is reeling chaotically around them.

What do you think will happen with just Paxton and Devi in S3 either by going by the title names or some made up theories? In my opinion I don't think they'll be together for that long give it till ep 8 or 9 they'll break up..

Also it's a bit confusing that we don't have titles names yet for 9&10 huh.

Hey anons, I don't bite. Ask any of my mutuals. But it's okay, I get it.

I assume you've already read my post and are just want my views purely on Devi and Paxton's journey in s3.

While those were very much in favour of Ben x Devi x Paxton journey in s3, I'm going to give some Daxton heavy theories since you asked. Should I take it as you feel I'm a Daxton expert, as I'm really not.

Prior to the titles being leaked, I was very prepared for a very Devi x Ben season, with Devi and Paxton possibly not together by the end of s3 but still hopeful for Daxton endgame in s4.

The titles now lead me to believe they are together for majority of s3 as they explore their monogamous relationship.

In short, s1 was the foundation building of Daxton and s2 was the awkward "friendship vs romanceship" exploration. I'll elaborate in a future post I've got drafted as I started answering this ask.

Never Have I Ever ...

3x02 ... had My Own Troll

The episode opens to Devi waking up to more messages from instanon.

It's a photo of Paxton and Zoe making out.

Devi wakes up sweating from this nightmare.

She goes to see Dr Ryan who tries to be the voice of reason and tells her to just ask Paxton what it could mean.

Devi argues how it would upset Paxton and make him insecure.

Devi recruits her 2 besties to find out this anon.

Fabiola needs a distraction and Eleanor always loves a good drama.

They try Jonah and Ben to find dead ends. They try Eric who is revealed as Lady Whistleboy.

Eventually, Trent comes across their path, and is like, "Oh yeah. I totally forgot I sent that."

Trent: "Devi, my boy Maxi Pax has a heart of gold behind those chiselled abs. Don't go breaking it, or else."

Devi: That's not where the heart is... never mind.

Maybe Paxton finds out. Maybe he doesn't.

3x03 ... had a Valentine

Okay... so s2 never gave us a first proper Daxton date.

Let's see some growth from dates that involve the boys, Pizza and call of duty.

S3 ep 1 gives us a snippet of a pizza date but I'm sure they can do better for valentines day.

The pressure will be there and our boy may crumble, or he's going to recruit the help of Rebecca and pull something beautiful.

That is, until Trent hijacks his plans and turns it to a double date. Paxton doesn't know how to say no since Trent is no longer giving the icy shoulder.

If the writers feel like drama it up, let's get Aneesa and Ben on this date too.

I'm not going to suggest any date ideas yet as I'm currently writing some for my fic Grata as Hell.

But hey, if our long awaited Daxton pool scene happens in this ep, I may or may not cry.

If Paxton gets her a donut for Devi (with a card that reads, You look cool in that outfit), I legit will bawl. She's been wanting the damn donut since Ganesh Puja.

3x04 ... made someone jealous

Ben Gross goes to private school and it's all Nalini can talk about to Devi.

He overhears after climbing into her room (still yet to be caught, lol)

The insecurities flood him and oh Paxton, Paxton, Paxton ... green looks good on you.

While I personally don't like jealousy in my own relationship, God I do enjoy this drama on TV.

He's about to retreat back and ice Devi out, but they end up having a deep and meaningful.

She reassures him and all is well again.

UNTIL ... Paxton finds the pro/con board.

Dear lord, jealously ensues... then onto ep 5

3x05 ... been Ghosted.

I just believe this is more referring to Ben ghosting Devi rather than Paxton ghosting.

There is a different between ghosting and being iced out. When Paxton has iced her, we usually knew why. For him to ghost it could be from my unlikely theory for ep4. Also, negative to Paxtons growth with Devi.

The only thing I could think why Paxton would ghost of if tragedy strikes Paxtons family and he doesn't want to burden Devi with it. Very unlikely as he'd want her there.

3x06... had a breakdown

If it's not Andy Samberg narrated episode, and is more referring to Devi having a breakdown (compared to her losing her shit).

Paxton gets offered a scholarship to Stanford University, keeping him here in California. While Devi works towards Princeton and Ben towards Colombia.

The realisation that Devi may have to choose between Paxton, or her future, triggers a breakdown.

Devi gets waitlisted and Ben gets early acceptance (is this a thing when you're not a senior? I'm not from USA so our school system is different).

3x07 ... cheated

I'll elaborate another time on Devi or Paxton possibly cheating in school, as it better not be referring to relationships. I'll be hello pissed.

3x08 ... hooked up with my boyfriend

Devi and Paxton have sex for the first time.

I'm still hoping for Paxton to reveal Devi is his first because everyone assumes Paxton has had alot of sex. Maybe he has. But Daxton heart if here for extra special moments.

Beyond this I'm not ready to elaborate further.

To conclude, ep 3x09 and ep 3x10 episode titles have not been leaked as I feel they would be major spoilers. Maybe someone dies in ep 9, maybe ep 10 reveals this Daxton endgame or breakup of Daxton as he graduates.

Hello, this is the original anon. Thanks for your lovely reply, I'm happy to receive such a long one 😊 Cautiously optimistic, that's a good way to put it. It's definitely not one of those "never gonna happen" ships. Like you said though, until we get a little scene that is unambiguous, it's all still open.

I agree that those moments you listed are the best "evidence" we have! But even those didn't necessarily make the GA think anything, my mom watches the show too and she has never commented on buddie at all. And you can't throw those viewers into cold water, realistically speaking.

I also agree that after s4 something shifted, especially with the eddieana breakup and I find it a bit suspicious that buddie are both single now. Like, they could have easily chosen to write bucktaylor differently and make them endgame, right? And I also have a hard time imagining two new female love interest suddenly showing up, but Idk. Because it's highly unlikely they'll both end up single, isn't it? What do you think about that?

but yeah, i get what you mean about the general audience; there definitely needs to be a bit of an overt declaration of their feelings before most of them we’ll see what we do! and the bucktaylor of it all is a good point!! they for sure could’ve approached that relationship differently if they wanted them to be endgame.

i think if buddie doesn’t happen then our best hope is that the show would end with them both single and with some level of ambiguity that would allow us to headcanon they still ended up together. however, given buck’s character arc is what it is, i really do think his endgame here is a relationship/family. i personally can’t fathom how they could possibly give him a relationship that would feel deserving of his arc with a new character and there’s no one on the show presently i feel they could pair him with (except for eddie lmao) so idk what their plan is there if eddie isn’t his choice

either way, i think this season will be very telling when we see where we end up with buck’s storyline by 6b!!!!

I really hope they expand on mikes character in the last episodes of season 4 volume 2 and season 5. Same with will! I feel like all the other characters this last season had a lot of character building aside those 2. I also want to make a comment on Mike and will's friendship but you don't have to answer this ask if it draws too much attention. I know the Blyer fandom can get intense but I can't help but feel frustrated they are so adamant about shipping a clearly straight boy with a boy who hasn't stated his sexuality. I honestly hope will doesn't state his sexuality at all because then that's all his character will be because even without stating it that's all everyone is doing. I find it quite toxic tbh. Why can't a boy have a deep and emotional friendship with his best friends? What sort of message does that send that a boy being sensitive, truly loving his friends just means it's because he is gay? I feel like they are forcing stereotypes onto him. Noah even stated himself that it's up to interpretation and he believes will is just missing out on his childhood. You can tell in S4 he was lonely and had zero friends and I feel like THATS the angst. Mike is clearly his best friend and he felt left out yet again like S3. I don't care if he is gay or not but I feel like that would be lazy writing if that's all his character arc is when he was a pivotal character in S1 and S2. I noticed Noah was wearing a harness in behind the scene photos... so im hoping he gets more involved with this vecna stuff... I don't understand why two males can't just be best friends and love each other without it becoming romantic love. I just feel that sends such a bad message when we are trying to address toxic masculinity and tell men it's okay to be emotional, sensitive and to love your male friends! Also, why does someone have to date anyone? It's okay to not want to date and fall in love at all either! That's also an option, mostly as a TEENAGER!

Hi yes I really hope we get more of Mike in vol. 2 bc he felt very sidelined, especially since in all other seasons he's been such a prominent figure. I feel like this vol was focusing on Max and El more, so now that we've learned more about El's past and how vecna came to be, we might see more development in the other parts of the plot, and I think Will does play a huge part in all of this somehow bc he's the one it all started with (well, him and El)

As for Byler I agree to an extent. I think Will being gay has definitely been more blatent this season whereas before it's been skirted around (e.g Joyce calling him "sensitive", "not like the others" etc), but like with Robin I don't know if they'll explicitly say the word gay bc it's the 80s. I definitely do think though we might get something with Will talking to Mike bc they've alluded to all these emotional speeches happening, but he cares so much about Will and it's very clear so whatever happens we know he's 100% there for his friend.

I agree with what you're saying about how two boys can't show any emotions towards each other without it being bc they're gay. It does send the message that boys can't have those deep, emotional, caring feelings towards their other male friends which is bad. Two girls doing the exact same thing doesn't get the same treatment (I mean there are elmax shippers out there but it's no way as loud as the bylers).

Mike is just a very caring person for the people he loves, and he does love Will but it's clearly not the same way as he loves El. I liked seeing Mike and Will have those deep emotional conversations together like in s2 bc we never get to see boys share that kind of deep friendship but saying it's just bc they're gay means that boys aren't allowed to express their feelings, and it makes gay boys feel like they can't show friendship to their straight friends bc they don't want to make them think they're in love with them. It's messy.

Just to be clear, I'm not attacking byler shippers, at the end of the day this is a fictional show and it's not a harmful ship so people are free to their interpretations. But I personally don't like it bc it's just so rare to see a friendship like that portrayed between boys in the media without it being anything more.

Also ngl Will deserves someone better 😂 someone who actually likes him back instead of someone who clearly has eyes for one girl and one girl only.

Now before I start my mini rant I just want to say I'm all for individual growth for characters(but I'm also a believer that they don't have to be single to do that, but each his own). And I'm even all for characters taken a break from being in a relationship after something traumatic happens if that's actaully what they need(and I'm really hoping this break up or pause between Handon doesn't last the whole season bc I really they both need each other). Now time for my mini rant.

What I'm not okay with is them sending Hope back to her s1 ways of isolating herself from everyone. But I'm also worried that if they're doing that with Hope, does that mean they'll send Landon back to how he was before he met Rafael? Sadly I can see them doing that to Landon, having him be all alone yet again. But Danielle did say Hope will be spending time away from the school. Which means she could be with her family(and having them help her through everything) which I think is acceptable. What I don't find acceptable is that Landon will not only be dealing with everything by himself. But he's also going to in a school surrounded by people who don't give a shit about him and who he probably has to hang out with(and I wouldn't be surprised if after this whole malilandon thing that everyone there will make him feel like he doesn't belong even more than they already have). How is that acceptable? That's not even okay in the slightest. I think I'm going to stop it here bc I already feel myself getting ready to write a whole essay about this.

P.s given all that we've gotten so far on s4. This makes me wonder if this is why Aria and Danielle don't seem all that excited about s4. Bc this isn't at all what they want for their characters.

Same. Though in this case I don’t think a separation makes any sense and I think it’s the last thing they need right now after fighting so hard to get back to each other. And I’m really hoping it won’t last all season too. I just posted a long rant about it here x.

And yeah, I’m not okay with them having Hope revert back to her old ways either (unless it involves her “friends” because that would actually make sense). What’s the point of having that kind of development if they’re gonna throw it out the window when it matters most? But with Landon though, I think that after all he’s been through, it would make sense for him to want to stay away from everyone. I would think he’d only want to be around Hope, and only feel safe with her and not feel he could trust anyone else. Especially if he finds out none of them cared at all when they thought he was dead and that some of them were more than willing to let him die. He’s got no reason to trust anyone but Hope, so it makes more sense for him to separate himself from everyone else.

And I just saw what Danielle said about Hope being away from the school. And normally I’d be thrilled about it, and I would love to see her with her family, but Landon should go with her? I’ve wanted them to just leave the school and go off to New Orleans together for so long. And I totally agree, it’s not acceptable for Landon to be dealing with everything alone. And if anyone should leave the school, it’s Landon. Like please get him out of there. Why leave him there with people who treat him like garbage and don’t care whether he lives or dies? If they have Landon staying at the school with those people I can’t even imagine how infuriating that will be. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they continue to treat him like he doesn’t belong either, or maybe even blame him for some of what’s happened. And for sure, none of it would be okay. So much of what we’ve heard about s4 has killed any excitement I had and makes me wanna give up on the show. Or just watch Landon scenes, or anything else that could be somewhat good. But it’s honestly beyond frustrating.

And we’ve only just heard from Danielle today, but she did say she’s more excited for this season than any other, and seems happy about what they’re doing with Hope’s character. So it seems it is what she wants for her character, at least to some extent. Who knows how Aria feels, no one ever makes any effort to interview him so we’ve got no clue how he feels about the show or Landon’s storyline or literally anything. But he certainly didn’t seem very excited about it when he mentioned the show in that recent YouTube video. And I wouldn’t blame him if he’s not excited, I can’t imagine being happy about the character you play constantly being treated like trash. But who knows, I’d love to know his thoughts if anyone ever decides to give him the time of day to speak about a show where he’s the male lead.

Osblaine week 2021, Day 2: Lyrics

Over the last several weeks, I have carefully curated a playlist for Osblaine. The final total length of the playlist is 2 hours and 53 minutes.

For full disclosure, I have to give some of the credit to my amazing fellow Osblaine fangirls @dystopiandramaqueen, @splitscreen and everyone who participated in a certain conversation for the original inspiration and even bringing up some of the songs.

You should look at the playlist in five parts: one section for each season that's aired and one section for the future (because I like to end things on a hopeful note).

The playlist contains a lot of the following:

Some of the songs were chosen because they reminded me of a certain Osblaine scene, and some of them aren't specific to particular scenes but chosen for the general Osblaine vibe. And most of the movie/TV music I chose have been used for couples that remind me of Nick and June.

The first instrumental song IMO works as an intro for their entire love story.

The next two songs are more about having the right vibe. It's a little ambiguous and dark because that's how their life is in Gilead.

"My Ghost" is June's POV before they sleep together, wondering if she can trust Nick:

The last two songs are for episode 1x10, for both Nick’s reaction to June’s pregnancy and the beginning of her first escape attempt (arranged by Nick).

Commentary:

The first four songs cover June’s escape attempt and the time they share at the Boston Globe.

"Incomplete" is Nick's POV from when she's on the run and he knows she'll be gone from his life soon. He lives in the moment.

"I'll Be Your Shelter" is for when June's mental health is at its lowest point and he goes to Serena to beg for her to get June help.

What you need is a friend to count on

P.S. I Love You takes me back to episode 2.09, Nick’s selflessness in the episode and of course the scene where after telling June that Luke loves her, he tells her that he loves her too, despite believing she probably doesn’t feel the same way.

It's A Girl makes me think of the beautiful moment they share during June's false labor when he helps her out of the van and they climb the steps together.

I’ll Stand By You is for 2.10, Nick holding June after she was heartbroken over Hannah and over what the Waterfords did to her and clinging onto him.

Part III- Season 3, next 6 songs:

Commentary:

For obvious reasons, it was extremely difficult to pick songs for this season.

The first (instrumental) song is for the beginning of the season with June coming back to the Waterford house and them then saying goodbye to each other on the street.

All I Ask, Never Enough, I Don't Wanna Live Forever and Love Is Gone are for their night together in June’s room at Lawrence’s (the one we didn’t get to see sigh). They know it's possible it's all they'll ever have, and they'll take it, but it'll never be enough.

"Constellations" is for their long separation and the doubts that I'm sure plagued them both during it. Would they ever see each other again?

Commentary:

There were sooo many songs I wanted to include in part IV, but I controlled myself and ended up with this particular dozen.

"She Was Like A Bright Light" and "Noah’s Last Letter" are an instrumental double punch to the gut for Nick’s time in Gilead during episodes 4.07-4.09. The first one is meant for when he finds out June made it to Canada, and the 2nd for is for when he starts to gather info on Hannah to give to June.

"What’s in the Middle" and "ivy" are June’s POV of episodes 4.07-4.09.

"What's In The Middle" has more of an angry and confused vibe, and June was definitely both in episodes 7 and 8.

Losing your head is such a common theme

All your brains are falling out, falling out the open seams

I will empty out my skull of all this useless chatter

On the other hand, "ivy" has this haunted vibe, but there's also reverence and acceptance, which she begins to achieve in episode 9.

The next three songs are of course all for their reunion in 4.09, and I couldn’t resist including the song that was actually played in the scene.

"The Story" draws the season to a close nicely, with June understanding that her current needs are different from what they used to be and that there’s someone who understands her completely (and it’s not Luke).

No, they don't know who I really am

“Secret Love Song” is a more angsty tune about a love that’s still kept a secret like June and Nick’s love (as far as most people are concerned). Now that they’ve already made out in front of the man who raped and abused June and made Nick watch him do that, I want to believe they can let go of the secrecy in S5, at least when it comes to a few people.

“Bones” is about a relationship with a strong foundation, which IMO they do have. It will carry them in the future, too. They’re more into each other now than ever before and especially June is coming to terms with how strong that love is. They’ll weather any storm.

When the bones are good, the rest don't matter

“Feels Like Home” is more hopeful. Their home is with each other and I hope that’s something that will be explored more in the future.

“Like I’ll Never Love You Again” is a good conclusion for the playlist. It’s hopeful and a testament to an epic love.

Firstly, just want to say I absolutely love your blog, I am in love with your writing and you are an amazing human being!!!

Secondly, I just want to know your thoughts on Buddie being Endgame or if they'll just stay friends. The reason I ask is because it seems like the writers are trying to shine a spotlight on Ana and Taylor and with all the behind the scenes drama with Oliver and Ryan (not too sure if that was ever resolved tbh), I think they just want to take everything away from Buddie and throw it at Ana/Taylor.

I know we've got some really cute Buddie scenes in 4A and my heart will forever hold onto Eddie being the one to meet Buck at the firehouse when he went for tests because our not so hetero boy loves his best friend. Another one would be Domestic!Buck, because you can see the love in his eyes for Eddie! And of course, Chris running away to his second Dad. That all lives in my head rent free until I die!

I have hope for 4B, I will dress up in my Clown suit for it and I will cherish every crumb we get.

And lastly, if Buddie was to become canon at the end of 4B (I know, one can dream) how would you like to see that portrayed and what would happen? Ideally, I would want the Firefam and Chris to bash their heads together or for Chris to let the shared braincell out as he let's to keep it safe in a box under his bed!

Regarding Oli and Ryan, none of us will ever know what went down, but I think they’re at the very least on friendly terms, given some of the stuff we’ve seen on social media. But even if they weren’t, they ARE professionals. Actors who have downright hated each other’s guts personally have played in love couples successfully before, there’s no reason to think Oli and Ryan couldn’t do this too if they had to. Plus, both have expressed support for Buddie in the past.

I don’t think either Ana or Taylor are endgame. The fact that they’re around now is because the show needs to progress their romantic journeys and it won’t dive right into Buddie without any obstacles first, not if the show is going for the classic slowburn, will they/won’t they. Which, if Buddie will become canon? Slowburn is clearly the route.

I’m not entirely sure the show itself has decided on an endgame for Buddie yet, in part because I don’t think the end of the show is yet in sight, you know? And who knows what might change between now and then. Take Glee for example. Rachel and Finn were clearly supposed to be endgame, but... In any case, I do think the show has given Buddie the kind of material that shows give to couples that are meant to be endgame! So when I try to think why I’m more optimistic than I know it’s wise to be, it’s because of that. ;)

I love all those 4a bits that you mentioned! :D TBH, I don’t think we will get Buddie in 4b, it would be too fast for a slowburn, but we hopefully we get something a bit more concrete that points to them, like maybe some feelings realization, one of them looking at the other in the s4 finale and going... “oh”. And the show leaves off at that. But first I think we’re still waiting to see building blocks on the way there, like what’s the lesson and growth that the relationship with Ana is supposed to bring Eddie, beyond just helping him date again? All signs seem to point to s4 having been cut short, so whatever the point was, we may only start to see it in 4b. Or in other words, some events that might have been intended for 4b could be pushed back to s5... and we’ll just have to be a bit patient with this season if it doesn’t quite give us what we want.

From that interview, it looks like they might keep the Byers separate from the others for some of the S4 and come back together maybe during the latter episodes. It'll be sad to see jancy apart but could be a blessing in disguise because they'll have to give Jonathan a storyline of his own plus we'll get Byers family moments + el/will bonding. If they do, I'm wondering if they'll shoot in different locations or still use atl to look like some other US Town?

of course, it shouldn’t be that for jonathan to interact with his family or have a plotline that’s more solid, that jancy has to be physically apart–the show seems to be making it an either/or, when it shouldn’t be. they managed to have both jancy scenes and scenes with his family in s1, back when they were really writing his character, and were more character based in general.

but i’m def curious about how the byers family move will change everything in s4–i hope s4 would first portray where they are and how things have shifted for them, and portray the separation of everyone, otherwise, what was the point of the move? you can’t just open the season by reuniting everyone, imo. once ST makes the choice to have them move, they should show the consequences of what is a huge decision for the byers and for the show. so if they are showing the move properly, it seems to me like you should get will and el and joyce as a family unit, for sure, but do you also get jonathan present in there if he’s in college? because you want jonathan to go to college. it would also be sooo ridiculous tho if the byers move, and still jonathan isn’t treated as a member of the byers family and again somehow manages to not have any scenes with joyce/will/el.

then there’s the question of how everyone gets reunited and there seem to be a couple of options: for jancy, there’s putting them in a similar place for college, and/or, the way you get everyone present is it’s set in winter 1986, and everyone is home for winter break. then the thing mentioned at the end that reunites them are the holidays–if the wheelers go to where the byers are for thanksgiving, or the byers go back to hawkins for christmas or something. or it could be that what brings everyone together is whatever the new crisis is. it also depends how much the show extends the crisis beyond just hawkins.

then with the question of actual filming–it sounds like at least a possibility that some could be in a diff location, but that would totally depend on where the byers are moving to. they could either use another rural location near ATL for a diff town they moved to, or, idk, if it’s closer to a city, or they wanted it to look different enough, maybe they’d change locations for some filming? i thought the most revealing comment on the filming Q was both what charlie said about not knowing, but mainly what noah says here:
