10/10
the cure (jun. 16, 2023) @ the bell centre
ok this concert was great aside from the fact i was running on 5 hrs of sleep. robert smith sounded amazing and just like the songs. a point gets knocked off bcs of the annoying woman in front of us, another gets knocked off bcs we were hungry and there was very limited food options on the floor we were on.
8/10
tears for fears (jun. 27, 2023) @ cmac performing arts center
i 🫶 amphitheater shows. we all thought they were gonna play everybody wants to rule the world and mad world during the encore but they played ewtrtw SECOND and mad world halfway through the show. recognized more songs than i thought (sowing the seeds of love, etc). we got moved closer to the stage bc some of our seats were blocked by the projectors so bonus points.

Winter 2021 Anime Opinions
As always its that time of the year I pretend to be an anime connoisseur and leave my review on this seasons anime so take it with a grain of salt asdfgh from the one I enjoyed the least to the most.
Wave!!: Surfing Yappe!! (TV)
Tumblr media
You are seeing currently the only probably best thing about Wave asdfghj Tanaka bby I am SO sorry you got stuck here,,,,, Its bad because I had so many expectations for Wave but it just...... isn’t very good? The characters feel 2 dimensional, animation is veeeery average and the plot is all over the place? Dont even get me started on the Shou situation plot device that they just brushed over and went on with and,,,,,big sigh
Urasekai Picnic
Tumblr media
To be honest is not very fair to compare this one to the rest as ive only watched the first 2 eps but ill catch up eventually asdfghj its not bad just that the plot didnt capture me as much as I hoped but the two main characters cutiess the plot just confuses me asdfgh but I don't have much to say about it
Yakusoku no Neverland 2nd Season
Tumblr media
So uh anyways Chile I don't wanna talk about it the only reason this is not dead last is because RayEmma cute moments but yeah don't watch this clown show go read the manga for self care ✨
Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun
Tumblr media
The only reason this is here is because she. The main girl I cant remember the name of sucks and main dude is very normal asdfgh the plot is basically “Want people to like you? change everything about yourself and become a normie robot!!!” ASDFGHJ Like its so over the top and cringe at times it becomes very confusing but hey I am not caught up either so I may change opinions (x doubt tho)
2.43: Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-bu
Tumblr media
From this point onwards I basically like everything. 2.43 Started suuuuper strong for me, definitely thought it would be one of my favs this season but as the eps went by I just.... kinda lost interest asdfgh? Like its not bad, but its a sort of mix between Stars Align and Haikyuu where I would have loved a more character based story with dark subplots like Stars Align but got the parts I always criticize about Haikyuu were there was a point I didn't really knew any of the characters? ASDFGH like the enemy team is super cool and Love their designs but if you ask me to tell you anything about them I already forgot rip. Its still cute and the animation is cool but yeah it kind of disappointed me in the end a bit ;w;
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season
Tumblr media
AOT Is so sexci because it keeps on hurting me and I come back every-time for it ASDFGHJ Not much to say that hasn't been said, characters are super interesting, plot is a bit confusing at times for me to follow but amazing and I just :))) could go on about certain characters :))))) but I wont :))))
Wonder Egg Priority
Tumblr media
Wonder egg priority is very talked about right now so I wont get too much into it other than definitely give it a watch if you like the more philosophical and “makes you reflect on your life choices” sort of anime ASDFGHJ the visuals are stunning and the characters very well build, although I am very confused at times I am still enjoying it tons ^^ Trigger warning however for some heavy topics I recommend checking the warnings before watching it <3
Kemono Jihen
Tumblr media
I LOVE THEM OKaY? asdfghjk Kemono Jihen gives me the found family topes and I eat them all right up, I love the characters , their designs, the plot, everything. To be fair tho, I did enjoy the manga more than the anime but maybe its a pacing thing? idk but I definitely recommend 100% taking on the manga and maybe after watch the anime but I am enjoying it tons!!
Kai Byoui Ramune
Tumblr media
This one may come as a surprise lol?? Like I haven't seen a single soul talk about Ramune but like??? I am actually enjoying it a lot?? and look forward every week for the ep? asdfghj Like yes I will be the first to admit the animation isn't really the beeeeest out there but the plot is funny while also being serious, the characters are quirky and interesting to keep the flow going and I am liking the undertone heavy messages? the soundtrack also slaps imo and yeah I would definitely say to watch the first ep and if you like that sort of dynamic take it up on the rest!
I★Chu: Halfway Through the Idol
Tumblr media
Okay I will be the first one to admit this is just me being trash for the idol shows but like?? its my list so I get to decide which found family I am screaming about next ASDFGHJ. As an avid A3 stan this gave me serious vibes of my boys (plus they were made form the same company so like not very surprised there loll) and like I think the characters are cute with adorable relationships and cute songs and its just a lighthearted show I sit down every Wednesday and smile through the 25 minutes so yes I Chu deserves a high spot and yes I recommend it even if it has like a 6.3 on myanimelist sksksks
Dr. Stone: Stone Wars
Tumblr media
Look at Gen!!!! enough reasons to watch dr stone!!!! ASDFGH but in all seriousness I....... love them okAy? The plot is amazing and the characters are super entertaining (hiiii Ukyo Gen Senku and Chrome muak) and although it may seem a bit slower paced than first season the arc is gonna get better and better and the finale is gonna be great if they stick to the manga. Only sad that I dont get to see my pirate fuckboy but we better be getting a third season
Bungou Stray Dogs Wan!
Tumblr media
when I say this is the happiness of all my Tuesdays I ain’t even exaggerating ASDFGHJ Does this have an important plot? no. Is it transcending to animation? not really. Is it BSD content I've been starving for? absolutely!!! Tbh I see my favorite anime characters in chibi version and I go feral, go watch BSD pogg!!
Horimiya
Tumblr media
Me?? searching for that one gif of the side ship scene am obsessed over?? more likely than you think ASDFGH Horimiya holds a special place in my heart because it was the first manga I ever read and the nostalgia is stroNG,,,,,, The plot isn't anything really transcending but the way the characters are captured the feelings just,,,,,, stan!! Also Yuki x Tooru supremacy !
Skate-Leading☆Stars
Tumblr media
Okaaaaay this is also me being a bitch for sports anime but like, again, are we surprised?? ASDFGHJ It may be my love for Hayato speaking but ive absolutely loves Skate Leading Stars, I love the group, the main characters, the ships, the routines and its so pretty and they are in love and like the competition and asdfgh its gOoD OKaY??? Watch it if anything for Hayato 👉🏻 👈🏻 My bastard bitch I love the gremlin.
Beastars 2nd Season
Tumblr media
I think we are all sleeping on Beastars brushing it off as a furry show. I don’t speak enough about it and I am not one to go about poetic cinemaness on main but beastars is a very poetic cinema show and yall sleeping on it. Coming from someone who was uncomfortable at first with the whole animal relationships part at first, just know beastars is so much more than that, it has a complicated plot with critics about the society within the show with amazing characters, great soundtrack and animation plus banger plot. Pina, Jack, Juno and Legoshi best characters and every week I look forward for the next eps so I hope yall go give it some love.
SK8 The Infinity
Tumblr media
If it wasnt clear from my spam every Saturday that I am absolutely in love with this show I dont know what to tell you ASDFGHJ. Sk8 has an amazing range of characters I find fascinating, specially Reki, very much so everything Reki asdfgh but yeah!! Its super entertaining with an interesting plot and its definetely becoming one of my favorite animes because the amount of times ive rewatched the episodes to cope is kind of embarrassing lmaooo, definetely give it a try although I understand its not for everyone but like,,,,, do it for Reki? 🤧👉🏻👈🏻

i feel controversial & i care too much, so here's my des rocs complete tierlist
Tumblr media
ranked list & reasoning (ish) under the cut
1. WAYNE: hoholy shit wayne. can hardly put into words how explosive this one is to me. the intro sets a Whole Mood before swiftly (& cleanly) smacking it down into an Absolute Banger and i don't use the term lightly. very hard not to scream along with it. only detriment is that wayne the person is kinda an ass in the mmc video but that's no qualm
2. POS: basically the same thing as wayne (oh both have great lyrics btw, this one more so), only gets points knocked for being 2 minutes long and having 30 seconds of that being intro & outro. go danny give us nothing
3. WHY WHY WHY: there's a theme among my top picks--they're all hard-hitting w/ killer guitar. the lyrics are absolute batshit in a good way, but the chorus is a lil flat & i feel like in general it just needed a touch more spice to score the top spot. or maybe it's just seniority & it'll have a coup a few months out idk
4. DEAD RINGER: similar killer guitar & lyrics but this one is Groovy as Hell. don't particularly like his singing in this one & it's too repetitive if i'm feeling grumpy but there's something so magic about after the bridge. top 10 songs to twirl a flag to
5. NOTHING PERSONAL: the minute long outro irks me & it's a little bit empty but plays into that well. groovy, great lyrics, the Sexiest Guitar Solo of the lot, the screaming's a minus but it does have an emotion there. not entirely sure what one but it's there.
6. LET ME LIVE / LET ME DIE: his first time being all over the goddamn place, history was made. amazing guitar, a little worse lyrics than 1-4 i'll admit, the intro Slays me both in a good and bad way. must be a joy to play live where he can just drag out that intro & bridge as long as feels right. at least i liked it in the digital concert like that. would actually kill me in a physical concert, imagine how much stomping gets going to that beat. bonus points for presumable cowbell
7. PIECES: for once not this high for the guitar & lyrics, they're both kinda basic. idk what's about this one but it just takes me to a separate dimension & i love it so much for that. really fills those earholes. also a bit of personal meaning, heard it for the first time on the day we moved into the house i'm currently split-custody-living in (is that tmi?) & the first music video of his i saw. man i love some spaghetti on the wall
8. SLO: basically the same as dead ringer, but knocked points for a kinda lame outro & the subject matter being a little less interesting to me. still lovely.
9. HANGING BY A THREAD: not my normal fare really & the way that the ends of the verses don't really fit in the pacing of them is bleh, but it's just so reminiscent of the songs my brother puts on whenever we hang out together that it just makes me all warm & fuzzy. it's also nicely put together which is something i'll have to start saying for. the later list.
10. SUICIDE ROMANTICS: this is where i start griping about head voice & higher pitches in general. don't like em so the pre-chorus is a lil annoying. also not my normal fare but it's tender & the ending is awe-striking. imo better live where he's loud on that last line before the final chorus. not enough to bump it up though. shoutouts to love and a smoking gun, i still am dying to hear that one
11. THE PAST HAS PASSED AWAY: my favorite lyrics out of the first 2 ep's. only thing wrong with it really is the bridge getting kinda repetitive. love that last chorus heehoo. same schpeel as the Banger Category
12. MMC: this one's lower than the rest of the Bangers for being pop punk which is something the radio has made me dislike, i guess. that trope with the guitar in the second half of the chorus just kills me so much. improves greatly during & after the bridge, love that lil ragtime piano. generally the same bit as before but i do love him doing something un-romance-related. yeah fuck the establishment!
13. THE DEVIL INSIDE: reminds me A Lot of the electronic-ish cassettes i've got from the early 90's but that's just me. this one will probably move up as i get more used to it, but only a little bit. the first part of the second verse makes me like. genuinely uncomfy? but the second part of it's fantastic. ending's ass though what happened to the instrumence. bonus points for using 'reverie' that's an SAT word (maybe). good singing but returning to the gripe at higher pitches, just a little bit though
14. THIS IS OUR LIFE: feels shockingly generic for a des rocs song tbh but there's nothing really wrong with that. adore the bridge. singing's alright. kinda miffed that he doesn't pronounce the 'f' in the second 'life' in the chorus, but it makes sense here. that sort of thing won't later so i'm bringing it up now. guitar's nothing spectacular but fits nicely into the song, probably one of the most cohesive of his (especially in recent history).
15. OUTTA MY MIND: really lives in the same space as slo and dead ringer do in my head (most likely the 'songs to twirl a flag to' zone), but this is by far the worst of the three for when i'm grumpy. just. Very repetitive. back to great lyrics here but it's kinda hard to pick them out (i've heard the song at least 100 times by now & i'm still missing a few lines). still groovin'
16. RUBY WITH THE SHARPEST LIES: what the fuck actually goes on in this song by the way? not the premise or whatever it's just. so all over the place. the verses are incredible but bringing in another vocalist just for one line kills me. bridge is really cool but that one part i don't remember where it is, the one that alternates basically nothing & an Electronic Piano Chord blaring at ya? ruins it. partially anyhow. also can someone tell the people on genius that it's 'carved it in my skin' not 'crawled down in my skin'
17. GIVE ME THE NIGHT: same repetitive issue as outta my mind but it's not groovy enough to save it, shame. feels like a trial run of all the wackshit stuff he's been doing recently, with the additional vocal bits at the end & the kinda weird lyrics. it still has a place in my heart don't get me wrong but it's just fallen in favor of stuff that Commits to banger or batshit (or actually pulls off both strongly, yyy). oh yeah nice guitar alright singing etc etc
18. USED TO THE DARKNESS: similar story to give me the night. i love it i do, but it's just lackluster nowadays. also remember that under-pronunciation thing i brought up in this is our life? this is where that comes back. rampant i tell you! that second verse he just doesn't finish the words & i hate it!
19. DON'T HURT ME: i honestly don't know why this one isn't in D. the chorus bit where he just cuts it short is irksome. the lyrics aren't anything special. i don't know what i like about it. but i can tell it does exactly what it set out to do if that makes sense. respect, respect. and using missile in an analogy, he's getting creative with the vocab
20. LIVING PROOF: kinda got a vendetta against this one i think? i don't know why i hate this one but i do. it's just kinda, blah. like the perfect sort of thing to nightcore up. sentiment's lovely & i do love the lyrics even if they aren't impressive but like. it bores me to an extent
21. TICK (LIVE): separating the version i heard in the digital concert just to give it some credit, this one was actually kinda nice. another one with a nice sentiment & what he was going for is great. no clue what the second part of the second verse has to do with any of this though. and it also begins our final group, the songs that just feel empty. like there's not nearly enough going on. this one's alright though i was just hoping the studio version would add some flair. you can see where that one is though.
22. IMAGINARY FRIENDS: also got a vendetta against pop. kinda hate the sentiment here (contrast!), the chorus just falls short of what the verses prime me for, head voice is rampant, and yet i still swing along to it. it's infectious props to him. love the outro though, monkey laugh and all.
23. MAYBE, I: another empty one, like it's a four-note progression what is that. love his singing in it, and the chorus parts do round it out, but like. eh? it doesn't even give me much to say.
24. BORN TO LOSE: another flop on the chorus! too smooth i say! and i absolutely Despise the pitch-shifting thing going on. not something i was expecting him to express so points there, lyrics are nothing fancy to my Literary Mind though. initially good singing but the chorus he's just sloppy over it. the instrumental is lovely but the vocals just throw it so hard into the bin which is a right shame. fuck that outro too i hate that gimmick
25. I KNOW: here's where the bad batshit comes in. singing is some of his worst imo, does the other-vocalist thing for that bridge, genre i'm not fond of, just a soup of Stuff I Don't Like. not one i'd kill someone over putting as #1 like i can see where it comes from but. mmmmmhhhh bad. cover does NOT help his case.
26. HVY MTL DRMR: empirically i should put this one higher. but the chorus flops so goddamn hard it deserves to be in the bottom of the barrel. the verses are lovely for what he was doing back then! but then just... nothing!
27. RABBIT HOLE: i was so excited for this name but it's just sad boi hours playlist curated by some corporation you hate. probably the most nothing of them all, genuinely where are the instruments. what happened. was this one just shoehorned in as the final track just to pump numbers up. and i swear he had some autotune or something which only makes his voice worse it's fantastic naturally. also that's not what a rabbit hole is! that's not the idiom! a rabbit hole is when you go on a wikipedia spiral from jennifer lopez to group theory! not when you just have a shitty night's sleep or whatever this is! i'm not just miffed i'm downright annoyed
28. TICK (STUDIO): what the fuck happened des. how did you release this. it sounds like a 3rd grader singing for the school talent show it's so out of rhythm. singing's honestly kinda bad & the instrumental has the same problems i talked about in the live version. the last chorus is fine, i guess, but no i don't forgive him for what he did to tick.

i took these notes while i was watching!
ep 24
-rly like caitlin glass’ machi, i thought her monologue on the train was fantastic. very quiet and pained in a tired way, rly good reading. i liked how she played machi worked up too. i dont think she’s quite as good as the jpn actor but still great regardless
-yuki sounds 40 as always
-bailey and jewell have SUCH good chemistry, their flirting in this ep is making me super excited to hear a lot of scenes in eng in s3
-(hatori voice) shut UP
-sometimes i feel like burgmeier leans into shigure’s flippancy a little too much and isn’t pointed enough. it still works because it’s shigure and i don’t fully disagree w his take on the character/lines but i miss the intensity that nakamura offers
-akito’s first “apologize.” left me GASPING clinkenbeard fucking GETS IT!!!! it’s soooo hugely emotional and i love the way she totally lets loose for akitos next line (“do it NOW”) oh ya...perfectly delivered imo, she rly grasped the gravity of the situation for akito
-i have this weird thing with vale where he is very inconsistent. i actually thought his scene w hatori was rly good and it was probably because he was speaking like a human and not an actor lmao
ep 25
-oh my GOD the kureno/akito scene right after the cold open....clinkenbeard is incredible, so painfully genuine + so shines a light on how good akito is as manipulating others and justifying their own actions to themselves. also akito sounds particularly boyish in this scene (for the english dub anyway; i think sakamoto’s voice is just more naturally boyish than clinkenbeard’s) + i like that she utilized this early-morning type voice to lean into that. also it’s just a banger of a scene
-loved akito yelling at shigure in flashback, i like this bit as a whole because it’s such an obvious couple fight but i loved how it sounded like akito was holding back tears towards the end of it when they’re asking why shigure can’t put them first “for once”
-like i’ve said before i think burgmeier’s shigure is a lot more casual and flippant than nakamura’s so i reeeeally liked the quick dip into spite with “you’re one to talk.” it seemed very intentional on the actor’s part and was a great choice imo, really stood out
-i also like how loaded his delivery is when he’s asking hatori if he thinks there’s something off about kureno, and then he turns to mocking with “you don’t accept it? because you’re scared?” 👌👌👌 v good
-OOOOH the hostility in shigures voice when kureno calls, rlyyyy great, and i love how that hostility feeds into his frankness towards the end of the convo. amazing line readings
-i feel like everything i criticize vale for, sinclair does right; he reeeeeally sits in the emotion and doesn’t concern himself w telegraphing it, which is excellent for a character like kureno who has cut himself off from his emotions so that he won’t be hurt by how much he wants
-ugh and then when he starts crying.....SO GOOD!!!! I FELT THAT!!!!!
-OH HE IS LOSING IT!!!!!! this shit is raw
-VERY underwhelmed by whoever plays child akito, so completely pales in comparison to sakamotos truly outstanding performance in the curse breaking scene. i don’t think it was clinkenbeard but it probably should’ve been
-translation note: in the japanese kureno is the “tori” which means bird but also refers to the rooster of the chinese zodiac, but based on the imagery in fb i think kureno was actually a sparrow and not a rooster. by choosing that word takaya has more freedom in how she can portray kureno’s imagery. so it is interesting to me that the dub chose “rooster” and not “bird” considering how much non-rooster bird imagery is attached to kureno, and it makes the sparrow thing make a little less sense imo

Ask game
1. Where did you hide the body??
Me: *pause* No, where did you hide the body—
*police stare at me with disbelief*
Me: there’s no—there’s not a single body here—well stop looking at me like that, you’re the cop! You should know! Why are you asking me for! Body? Whaaaaaat. Ahaha.
*cops shake head*
*whispers to my friend* Guys I think I pulled that one off
Police: you know we can hear everything you’re saying
me: 👁👄👁
2. Favorite rock? The 1975. Dominic Fike. Arctic Monkeys. Bad Suns. The killers. Pale Waves. Etc. That good good shit 👌
3. Most aesthetic season? Fall. Love them orange colors. The leaves falling. Though spring is also neat if you have a bunch of flowers bloomin in shit and winter is only aesthetic when it’s snowing. Boring ass summer tho just be heating me up.
4. When texting do u shorten words or spell out? I used to write stuff out all the time mostly but now it’s like half and half bcuz its just faster and nobody got time for it 🤣🤣
5. Vintage stuff? Hell yeah, but maybe not anything too expensive since some old stuff IS hyper expensive.
6. Colors that pop or blend? Not sure I understand what u mean abt them blending ahaha u mean like when they’re so similar to another?? Well I think it’s nice but honestly I prefer a pop and a bang, y’Know?
- At this moment I realized I was answering the last few questions from a completely different ask and felt like a dumbass 😂 anyways the actual number we’re on is three so imma just kickback
3. Worst dream u have ever had? I had sleep paralysis but was imbetween that and a lucid dream. At first I was paralyzed and could see my bed but my eyes felt closed and open at the same time?? A giant dark demon looking dog had towered over me and began to tear at my neck. It looked and felt very real I started to try to scream and it felt like a scream was coming out but no sound exited. Then I went into a lucid dream where I was being chased by this dog and running for my life I was running by and nobody could save me nobody in the dream when it caught up to me I was back in my bed and it was trying to eat me again. I was so terrified I couldn’t sleep for a whole week.
4. Lyric that comes to your mind? “And I don’t think I can be there. I’m paralyzed,I’m terrified of being alone. When you said I deserved what had happened.”
5. Blood make u uncomfortable? Yes, I passed out once when getting my finger pricked and a VERY small blood sample and another when dissecting a fish.
6. Even or odd numbers? Well I like the number 5,7,9, 3 so odd. (Like me 🤣🤣)
7. Something I hate that I love? Anything I’ve ever loved becuz love can be frustrating. Bruh.
8. 1st initial of someone I hate? Hmm...do I hate someone tho? Not that I can think of...
9. *Skipping down the lane* NOPE
10. Corn dogs? It’s funny cuz when I think of corn dogs my mind will always go to when we first moved to our current house because at our initial town we never had Sonic and while we were getting the house fixed up and moving stuff we use to always get Sonic since it was the closest to us most times to eat and that was a bunch of corn dogs and hotdog days 🤣 so thnk u corn dogs for ur service
11. I’m not a huge movie person so...I looked up movies from 2005 and movies Inlike from this time are Brokeback mountain bcuz it’s gay af, Shark Boy and Lava Girl damn I rewatched the shot out of it when I was younger, Narnia and the Chocolate Factory(although it low key creeped me out as a kid, and idk why).
12. Least fav music genre? Most country, most EDM, dubstep, screaming/really hard rock, some pop music, mumble raping.
13. As someone who waits on tables, my job is my least favorite restaurant experience 🤣🤣 just dealing with ppl...like ok, I’m half Hispanic right?? But I look white. Well, I work at a Mexican restaurant and so sometimes racist costumers will say shady shit just bcuz I guess they think it’s appropriate to say it to me just bcuz I’m not Hispanic in their eyes?? But it pisses me off and I feel like I can’t say anything without causing a drama which I hate and when the “costumers always right” it can be hard to budge and stand up and say “bitch wtf did u just say??” And there’s just folks who take things the wrong ways or ask too much at once or give u a hard time or just say something that sticks onto you for the whole day. One bad move can turn my whole day upside down.
14. 3 things never come near me? Cockroaches, Needles, and close mind ppl
15. Worst way to die? With regrets. Something really brutual, random, or where something just happened to go wrong (accident). Being killed by someone u love.
16. Unusual habits? Doing a Michael Jackson esque “hee-hee” after every sneeze I make, being extremely clumsy and making every task 100% more difficult, having the ability to talk as if I have an accent that comes from nowhere in particular just stupidity also I can’t speak my own language half the time 🙃getting words confused or misusing them in a sentence so I sound dumb having a very weird imagination and thoughts, I swear it like I never went to school and don’t know how the world works, plus many many more
17. Clothing style u want? I want to dress in a way that screams who I am and is a blend of both femininity and masculinity. A little vintage. Grunge. Urban maybe?? What do I know abt fashion 🤣🤣
18. Song or artist that deserves more? Dijon, hands down. I love his stuff. He’s like Frank Ocean meets light-singing beautiful lyricist with a more rock vibe?? Hidden gem. I also think Durand Jones & the Indications needs more love along with BadBadNotGood they sound like old-times but are new!! Oh, and Pale Waves is like a female The 1975 and kicks it. Bad Suns is a good alt rock band that no one seems to recognize :,D Toro y Moi too! His song with Flume “The difference “ is a banger!! Kid Cudi is my man when I want a blend of rock and rap. Also Dominic Fike,King Krule, and Roy Blair, who are all amazing!! Ok I need to stop 🛑
Duck I answered the past questions from a different post I’m sorry 😐
17. Emoji never used? There’s a bunch since I reuse the same over and over again. Lmao
18. 3 sentence Gatorade horror story? A faint quiver overtook the small freezer the Gatorade lay in; no one had come by in days, hours, weeks; when was the last time he met the lips of a thirsty body? They’d forgotten about him, as his last sips remained glued to his hollowing entrance. ‘Help, ‘it wanted to say, but it’s frozen lips could not be moved; It’d stay here, die here...just like the rest.” What am I doing with my life 🤣🙏
19. Do u know what an old bay is? A bay that is old? And old ocean? Idk!!!
20. Can u dance? Sometimes I dance when I’m alone but nothing spectral lol
21. What first comes to ur mind when u see ropes? 2 extremes. Sex and death. Hm. Ok. Moving on.
22. Make an obscure reference. “Even a bra couldn’t hold these nipples” *Holds a water gun to chest*
23. Fav balloon color? Pink or yellow.
24. If u were in court would u be innocent or guilty? Depends, what am I in court for 🤣 lmao jk honestly idk bcuz I don’t think I’d wind up in there
25. Are u hungry ? Nope
26. Unlucky number? Hm I don’t think so but I have a lucky number “123”
27. What’s “JMD”stand for? I’m guessing...Jamming my d—- 💀lol jk ahaha why am so dirt

29. What sends chills up ur spine? Seeing disgust food or smell disgust or talking abt disgust things like gore
30. How many questions are in ur inbox? A pathetic zero ahaha no one want to ask me anything 😂
31. Someone real who scares u. 2 of my ex friends. One when I was 10 said disturbing things and I was kinda forced onto the friendship and everything they said make me fear for others lives...and then a different ex friend who seemed normal at 1st but became both low key psychopath cult leader type stuff and I booed out of there—-.
32. Run or hide? Uhh probably hide because I’d say even if ppl say “u can run but u can’t hide” u CAN just hide! that’s the point of hiding they not find u xD also why not combine them? Hide then run somewhere far away once I got them off the trial.
33. Last person who made u angry? A frickin beetle that flew at me and pinched me in the middle of singing in the shed xD also my autocorrect
34. What’s going on in ur head? I should probably pee soon—
35. Little thing that makes u Smile? A lot of little things bruh.
36. Are u a descisive person?
Not sure.
*pAuse *
Ok, I guess I’m not then 🤣

38. Store least likely in? Any southern clothes shop, Abercrombie & Finch types shit, lol

48. What tome is it? Time to get a watch
49. Fav transportation? My car or walk is possible
50. Would u ever kill someone to save someone? Don’t want to think about that
51. Make a joke. Yo, it’s time to make a joke—so the other day I was working. And I was practicing my Spanish, yes? Anyone whose trying to learn anew language k n o w s that sometimes words can be so close to another u just confuse then! So apparently churros in Spanish is a desert but if u say it more harshly (it literally sounds almost the same) it makes a whole different meaning—diharrea, but like I didn’t know that so I legit just walked up to this person and asked if they would like some shit to eat. So yeah, that was great. Let’s not forget that I mixed up blood, watermelon, and sangria which is a wine. I legit once said I had mixed wine in my vines and another time watermelon 🤣

57. Do U consider urself mentally stable? 😐
58. Are u easily offended? Well U just called me mentally unstable and asked it there was voices in my head!!
59. What’s wrong with taking the backstreets? Uhm...
60. Any questions u want ppl to ask u? Nothing in particular but it’s be nice if someone care to ask me something abt me from personal question to my opinions on shit to 19 days fandom related junk 😌
Woooo I’ve finished this game! Thanks to @seiji-amasawa for introducing me to this ^^

a o t d !!!
no more than 1 release per artist to keep it interesting. selection and ranking is arbitrary and would prob be wildly different if i did this tomorrow. also i only went down to #42 cause everything after that didn’t feel like real aotd status - at least as far as the specific relationships i built over the past 10 yrs with the music i was listening to
#1 laurel halo quarantine
Tumblr media
nobody did machine-body dialectic like laurel halo in 2012. i loved everything else from her this decade too but every time i listened to Carcass it made me leave my body physically. absolutely unreal album art too
https://laurelhalo.bandcamp.com/track/carcass-2
#2 e+e the light that you gave me to see you
Tumblr media
2012 was a good year. pop/ambient/noise/radio-dj-tag sound collage ascended to spiritual intensity. makes you feel like a child experiencing awe. also fire-gut used to have probably my favorite music video ever but i think it’s gone now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p-SSuwW9cw
#3 ilovemakonnen 5
Tumblr media
not to be confused with Drink More Water 5, this one’s from 2010 during his mostly-forgotten diy outsider-pop phase. off-key singing and amateur beats and the sheer absolute joy of making cool songs. all 5 are perfect
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORKpg_-z0Mk
#4 macintosh plus floral shoppe
Tumblr media
would’ve made top 10 on album art alone. music, aesthetics, and cultural impact are inseparable here but going back to the album reminded me just how engaging its 2010s-updated chopped-and-screwed sound is, musically not just conceptually
https://vektroid.bandcamp.com/track/420
#5 jason lescalleet this is what i do 17
Tumblr media
hard to pick a favorite from jason lescalleet’s semi-monthly document of his electroacoustic / field recording / tape loop practice but i’ve cried to multiple tracks on tiwid 17 so it gets the nod. couldn’t find any of them online so here’s something else of his
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t33x8OOm68E
#6 barrio sur बड़ा शोक (heart break)
Tumblr media
dedekind cut guy’s weird one-off side project ended up being my favorite thing to come out of the last few years’ obsession w cowboy/western/country music/aesthetics. pure mystery
https://soundcloud.com/user-366783613/redemption-7inch
#7 cities aviv come to life
Tumblr media
i think maybe people thought cities aviv was just another no-flow pseudo-”conscious rap” type rapper in 2014 but actually this album is nuts. hyper-energetic vaporwave rap? what if death grips were happy? idk
https://citiesaviv.bandcamp.com/track/url-irl-2
#8 beach boys the smile sessions
Tumblr media
this cool fresh 1960s rock myth arrived fully formed and way more fun than the other ones. brian wilson’s concepts and songwriting got so unwieldy we had to wait 50 years to hear the sessions. i don’t care about conversations about his genius or whatever these songs kick ass
https://oldmasterpainter.bandcamp.com/track/surfs-up
#9 mindspring memories & intl. debris international memories
Tumblr media
did this really only come out in 2017? i feel like i’ve been listening to it since i was born. tangential lateral kind of wormhole out of vaporwave into two meditative spiritual infinite-feeling loops that perfectly complement each other
https://noproblematapes.bandcamp.com/track/sad-horizons
#10 nyege nyege tapes sounds of sisso
Tumblr media
absolutely obnoxiously insanely high energy high pitch high bpm dance music. i can’t believe this isn’t what people mean when they say future bass. set me down the path of historical and contemporary non-”global north” ideas about dance/rhythm/bass which i’m still on
https://nyegenyegetapes.bandcamp.com/track/mshamba-video-mster
#11 blithe field face always toward the sun
Tumblr media
the most gorgeous implementation of the sorta-ambient guitar-looping vignette aesthetic. is this a real trope or did i listen to this album so much i convinced myself it was a thing? for me this is the sound of what its like to feel completely content with life and at ease in the moment
https://blithefield.bandcamp.com/track/zen-den
#12 anohni hopelessness
Tumblr media
listening to this album and singing along while driving my car made me feel absolutely disgusting. unbelievable hooks, grossly hi fi sound design, and overblown drama add up to imo a scary effective type of explicitly political or ‘protest’ music
https://anohni.bandcamp.com/track/drone-bomb-me
#13 21 savage, offset, & metro boomin without warning
Tumblr media
why is these 3 pop stars’ vaguely halloween-themed one-off collab my favorite trap album? 21 savage, offset, and metro boomin were all wildly corny in different ways but everything was perfectly balanced. i hope metro boomin makes like one seriously ambient album next decade
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWv-bR_X-VM&list=PLC1uUM4twa8i6zsD_Sn1LRUq4vhl_PLCx&index=11&t=0s
#14 laura les big summer jams 2018
Tumblr media
‘crying in the club’ type bangers with no fear of ugliness and no fear of beauty and no fear of wildly unfashionable tropes like skrillex-y dubstep and guitar solos. so much input from other trans/queer artists it felt like a big t4t party
https://osno1.bandcamp.com/track/the-river-feat-scum-yung-skrrt-and-99jakes
#15 triad god nxb
Tumblr media
the other triad god tape from 7 years later is just as good. what was this man doing in the intervening time? i just imagine him riding london public transit while it rains or something. i love knowing that most of his cantonese spoken-word/rap parts are insults and jokes rather than like, melancholy observations
https://soundcloud.com/hipposintanks/triad-god-remand
#16 dj koze knock knock
Tumblr media
what if pop music sounded like this? somehow every song on here is wildly danceable, wildly sing-alongable, and also wildly detail-oriented. feels like a transmission from an alternate present where things are okay
https://djkoze.bandcamp.com/track/club-der-ewigkeiten
#17  ocora world of traditional music
Tumblr media
box set of “world music” recordings from the label that french electronic composer pierre schaeffer started in the 1950s as a project to teach people in rural west africa how to dj. ethnography can be a fucked up idea but afaik ocora is one of the good ones and if you can sorta try to disengage from the tropes/cliches that get imposed on it, the music is phenomenal. hard to find a track specific to this box set but here’s another from the label
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJm8rn6gW5I
#18 oneohtrix point never replica
Tumblr media
opn feels like an artist i’ve ‘grown out of’ i guess but samples never felt more alive or more dead than they did on replica. set a template for the kind of melancholy ‘soundscape’-y vibe that i spent years trying to find more of after
https://oneohtrixpointnever1.bandcamp.com/track/power-of-persuasion
#19 rihanna anti
Tumblr media
the most perfect imaginable pop album. i keep trying to move it higher up. i almost put club chai vol 1 on this list purely cause of the Woo remix but then i remembered the original is better
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dDCUKElEwk
#20 colleen a flame my love a frequency
Tumblr media
colleen’s ultra deadpan singing and wriggly rhythmic synth put me in a trance. everything sounded dry as hell even though it was covered in reverb. i think maybe some people were put off by the corny song names and lyrics
https://colleencolleen.bandcamp.com/track/separating
#21 dj paypal drake edits
Tumblr media
back when drake seemed like a sorta-shitty dude rather than seriously creepy, dj paypal used the power of footwork to expose both the melancholy-ambient modality and the serious-bass-music modality latent in his voice and beats
https://mallmusicinc.com/track/brand-new
#22 huerco s. for those of you who have never (and also those who have)
Tumblr media
not really as ambient as it first seems imo, but rather like a really intense focus on what we mean when we describe things as ‘static’ or ‘dynamic’. i know it’s corny but i wanna say these tracks are fully both and fully neither
https://brianleeds.bandcamp.com/track/promises-of-fertility
#23 girls rituals reddishness
Tumblr media
for a track so deliberately shitty-sounding I Know had no right to be so fucking danceable. persona and production synthesized into the only ‘singer-songwriter’ music i could really get into
https://temporaryenjoyment.bandcamp.com/track/i-know
#24 chromatics kill for love
Tumblr media
fakeass 80s retro melancholia digitized and pushed so far past pastiche it turned into pure slime. the phone call in There’s A Light Out On The Horizon came straight from the void
https://soundcloud.com/johnnyjewel/chromatics-kill-for-love-album
#25 actress ghettoville
Tumblr media
the only genuinely post-apocalyptic music. specifically the postapocalypse in wall-e but if there was no wall-e to clean it up
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcCPdfUFq6k
#26 playboi carti die lit
Tumblr media
every beat on this album was reducible to a 4-second loop that perpetually demanded its own repetition and playboi carti somehow knew exactly what to do with them
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2pjiKmhlAI
#27 charli xcx vroom vroom
Tumblr media
the charli xcx that came after this was fun, but there was black hole levels of power compacted into when she said vroom vroom on Vroom Vroom
https://soundcloud.com/vroomvroomrecordings/charli-xcx-vroom-vroom
#28 pacific breeze: japanese city pop, aor & boogie 1976-1986
Tumblr media
it’s kind of amazing to think that this compilation only exists because vaporwave aesthetics made ‘japanese grocery-store kitsch from the 80s’ a marketable thing in the us. anyway every single one of these is an absolute bop
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jl91bvEKj20
#29 young thug barter 6
Tumblr media
i can’t get enough of listening to young thug’s voice. i’ve seen his rhythmic-melodic-textural sensibility described as virtuosic and i don’t know really if that term means anything but it feels right to me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg9ZxQKSDuw
#30 magic eye babylon
Tumblr media
smeared dreamy lo-fi guitar music w wistful buried melodies pushed to an extreme. every song sounded the same and i wish there was more than the one cassette
https://magiceye.bandcamp.com/track/flame
#31 tirzah devotion
Tumblr media
you could say this was ‘stripped down’ r&b but i think more accurately what separated it was that every sound stood exactly and only for itself
https://tirzah.bandcamp.com/track/basic-need
#32 mount eerie clear moon
Tumblr media
it’s amazing how well mount eerie navigated the move from a lo-fi sound/mode/affect to a hi-fi sound/mode/affect. clear moon wasn’t his first attempt but it was the one that most embodied the feeling of the new possilibities that had been opened up
https://pwelverumandsun.bandcamp.com/track/through-the-trees-pt-2
#33 kelela aquaphoria
Tumblr media
this mix was such a good idea it immediately seemed shocking nobody else had tried afaik. and kelela executed it so well you forgot the tracks already existed in other contexts
https://soundcloud.com/kelelam/aquaphoria
#34 james ferraro skid row
Tumblr media
not sure what it means that the only james ferraro i really love is also the one i think of as the least abstract/conceptual. his recited lyrics had a rare spoken-word-poetic power
https://breakworldrecords.bandcamp.com/track/to-live-and-die-in-la
#35 salyu x salyu s(o)un(d)beams
Tumblr media
absolutely unbounded sense of joy and creativity and possibility hovering between bangers-lite and ‘soundscape’-y electronic manipulation
https://soundcloud.com/snouu/salyu-x-salyu-s-o-un-d-beams

a bunch of winter 2020 anime first impressions from Me
Koisuru Asteroid / Asteroid In Love
Tumblr media
ok ive already professed my love for this one so i wont get too much into it but basically it’s Extremely cute & im way invested in the two (HOPEFULLY romantic) leads bc their relationship is so sweet so far aaaaaaa
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
like do u SEE this shit im actually tearing up hgnfhrognfghdjfnjg
this show is Pretty and Cute and Space-Themed and Probably Gay what more do u Need. i love it 10/10
Tumblr media
Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!
Tumblr media
so fucken good, this is the one i was most excited for based purely on the art style/animation and god did it deliver, everything is such a treat to look at i fuckin LOVE a setting w/ just as much personality as the characters
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and My Goodness the Characters, 3 distinct girls w/ strong designs & personalities that aren’t like super moe/catered to cishet dudes heLLO
Tumblr media
we Love a gremlin protag & her chaotic neutral best friend & the “fuck you dad i want to make anime” dreamer they meet........
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also HELL YEAH it’s about making anime and they don’t even use that as a gimmicky set piece, the art is a huge part of the story and the detail with which it’s explored in the first ep gives me high hopes for the rest of the show aaaaa so excited to see where this one goes after that BANGER of a first episode
Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun
Tumblr media
switching gears to a less great one lol..... so the thing is this show’s visual aesthetic absolutely fucking slaps in a way that’s so rare to see in a sea of samey anime art styles, like the character designs are unique and everything is so damn colorful, the backgrounds alone blow me away w/ how fuckin Pretty they are??? LOOK at this shit
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and just. this show has a lot of stylistic flourishes that make it like 100/100 Certified Good-To-Look-At Anime
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
which makes every other aspect of the show that much more disappointing lmaoooo like ok i can deal w/ a mediocre story if the visuals slap, which they Do, but also these characters look 10 & we’re doing the whole sexualizing minors thing which fucking BLOWS it’s so uncomfortable to watch........... i feel like it’s one of those things where they’re trying to justify it by being like “o well hanako’s like a thousand year old spirit or whatever so he’s not REALLY underage” but fuckin. fuck off he looks and sounds like a Young Boy yall know what ur doing ugh
it’s not a thing that happens Constantly throughout the episode, really just a few moments here and there, but it is in the op pretty prominently so i feel like it’s gonna be a Thing that keeps happening so idk if i’ll stick w/ this one in particular which is a Damn Shame bc it really is such a gorgeous looking show im mad
number24
Tumblr media
ok ngl just from the character designs alone i rly didn’t think this one was gonna make as good a first impression as it did??? i guess the huge ensemble cast of pretty boys reminded me of last season’s actors: songs connection, which uh. was Not great,
Tumblr media
so i went into it totally expecting it to be all shitty but it rly surprised me, i found it so intriguing? the characters are actually really endearing so far...... i love how it doesn’t try to shove the entire cast in our faces in the v first ep but instead starts out w/ a small handful and lets us spend a lil time w/ them while only giving assorted Hints and passing impressions of the others, that was nice
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
also love how very not “generic sports anime” it is right off the bat by dropping us right into the middle of these characters’ story instead of doing the whole “bright-eyed first year joins the team and fights his way to the top” sorta deal- which you’d think would be a confusing and awkwardly paced approach but in this case is handled surprisingly well, especially because it seems like it’s gonna have a lot more elements of a character drama than a straight up classic sports anime (which i am Super here for)
(there is a lot of rugby in the op though so we’ll see how things go, it’s only been 1 ep after all)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the air drop into the characters’ established lives makes introductions a lot more organic as well; since the characters are already familiar with each other we don’t have to sit around watching everyone introduce themselves to the protag, we get to infer their relationships and general opinions of each other through their various interactions & it’s a thousand times more engaging imo!!
i mean we do have this other first year joining as a manager and our protag did deliberately say he learned everyone’s names/info after deciding to become a manager so im sure we’ll be getting those character introductions anyway, but well. we’ll cross that bridge if/when we come to it
Tumblr media
also i believe this takes place in college rather than high school?? i couldn’t pay attention to every detail but i definitely got that kind of vibe in which case Hell Yeah another welcome deviation from the norm babeeyyyy (i just checked and it Is college yeehaw)
basically what im saying is im tired of tropes & number24 just no clipped past the first 25 chapters of the sports anime formula and also it’s set in university AND it seems to be character-driven & im living thanks thank u
Pet
Tumblr media
ok ill be honest i completely forgot that i watched this one lmaooo (which should give u a hint as to what i thought of it *thinking emoji*)
Tumblr media
the art style’s whatever and the animation’s whatever, nothing special there. the show is like, dark?? more stupid than dark idk it feels a little bit “welcome to my twisted mind” but the twist is homophobia w/ a mild side of ableism, and also an entire episode of suspense wondering if im gonna have to watch this black side character die (he doesn’t, so there’s that at least)
Tumblr media
honestly i cant even remember what drew me to this show enough to put it in my plan to watch, i guess the premise sounded interesting enough (something about controlling minds and erasing memories?), but mature psychological shows usually aren’t really my scene, especially when they’re executed.... Like That. i did kind of enjoy the twist at the end, mildly, though i feel like it was pretty obvious in hindsight and the only reason i didn’t see it coming is bc i can be astoundingly shortsighted when it comes to things like that (aka im DUMB)
Tumblr media
since it took until the very end of the episode to Really introduce our dynamic duo tho, i feel like this ep was more of a prologue than anything and the Real show is gonna begin in ep 2, which is great n all but uh. idk if i care enough to give that a watch tbhhhh. i might just to see what the show has to offer but really truly honestly cant see myself sticking this one thru to the end lmao rip
--
hate to end on a bummer note like that but hey that’s all i got for this post ! i have more shit to watch so i’ll probably end up making like a part 2 w/ more impressions but this is getting long enough that it’s becoming kind of a pain to keep adding more so thats it for now boiyoeiyeoii

My 30 favourite songs of 2018
Tumblr media
YouTube playlist ⋅ Spotify playlist
30. Heroine – Sunmi
I hesitate to call Sunmi feminist – does she consider herself one? Can k-pop really be feminist? – but her matter-of-factly, eyes-wide-open songs that touch on the position of women in relationships and in society are the closest thing to genuine female empowerment I’ve seen in k-pop. It doesn’t hurt that every single one of her songs is amazing.
youtube
29. Bboom Bboom – Momoland
Considering I usually hate “viral” songs – I’ve been brainwashed to like Gangnam Style just recently – I’m still shocked at how much I love Momoland’s Bboom Bboom. I’m also proud to say that I was an early adopter of the song, and watching their success skyrocket made my Q1. I’m still not tired of the sax line and of the “GREAT!” shouted during performances. This song (and Momoland, really) is just irresistible.
youtube
28. Retro Future – Triple H
The last ever song by Triple H (anger abounds) is just a taste of the genre-bending, sound-mixing, absurd-lyric-writing that we could have gotten for many years. Their retro-future has nothing to do with the Jetsons, and much more with insane 80’s synths and, well, that sexy vibe.
youtube
27. Love Shot – EXO
Well, EXO, that was last minute. My ambivalence towards EXO is represented by this song, which I both find ridiculous and adore at the same time. This song’s luscious synths and layered vocals make it elegant, then the performance makes it kitsch. I don’t know if I’ve been brainwashed, but it’s so great.
Other songs of note: Electric Kiss – Tempo – Gravity
youtube
26. Not That Type – Gugudan
A thousand times yes for Gugudan doing edgier concepts. Not That Type is the spiritual successor to A Girl Like Me, and it’s almost as good. This song, however, is even tougher and more explosive. The new 8-member Gugudan is off to a great start.
Other songs of note: The Boots – Shotgun
youtube
25. Beautiful Feeling – Day6
Yet again, it’s my special skill to ignore all the popular songs that a group has, and in this case the rock vibe that defines it, and pick the sweetest, mellowest song they’ve put out. Day6 make some amazing power ballads, and Beautiful Feeling gives me warm and fuzzy feelings every time I listen to it.
Other songs of note: Days Gone By – Headache – Shoot Me – Somehow
youtube
24. Dinner – Suho ft. Jane Jang
I don’t know how the powers that be decided that this duet should happen, but the result is everything. Jane Jang’s one-of-a-kind voice layers beautifully over Suho’s, who ended up being often overlooked as an EXO vocalist for all these years.
youtube
23. Remember Me – Oh My Girl
Every single Oh My Girl put out is juicy in its on way. They may always go back to their foundational dreamy pop, but they never fail to throw in a twist. Remember Me’s EDM flavour and heavy rap are a total change from Secret Garden, but the song still blossoms into a romantic, airy chorus, and all of the members find something to sink their teeth into.
Other songs of note: Secret Garden – Magic – Love O’Clock
youtube
22. La Vie en Rose – IZ*ONE
My resolve to ignore the existence of IZ*ONE (and survival show groups in general) faded at the first two octaves of La Vie En Rose. This song does so much with so little: the atmosphere it creates, and the contrast between the powerful pre-chorus and the understated chorus are what makes the song for me. In the meantime I’ve started to learn their names, so I’m doomed.
youtube
21. I Want You – SHINee
SHINee’s constant stream of releases this year is at the same time a new beginning and the beginning of the end. It’s hard to imagine that a whole year has passed since Jonghyun, and it’s hard to think that the group has survived even though these songs are concrete proof. I really struggled to make it through the more melancholy songs, so I picked I Want You out of a series of basically perfect tracks.
Other songs of note: Good Evening – Chemistry – Electric – Who Waits For Love – Countless – Our Page
youtube
20. LATATA – (G)I-DLE
I would be surprised if there was a single Boombayah lover who didn’t love this song. It has the same (pseudo-Indian?) influences, the same rhythms, the same anthemic quality. Latata is catchy, hypnotic, fun, and showcases all the members equally (ok, maybe Soyeon a bit more than everyone else). This is a textbook debut for 2018.
Other songs of note: Maze
youtube
19. 1, 2, 3! – Seungri
Here’s someone who usually did club music and for once didn’t, and I loved it anyway! 1,2,3!  is retro, guitar-led and much more lighthearted than anything Seungri has ever done. It’s lovely to see a less sultry (and a biiiiit slimy?) side of him. Also Anda.
Other songs of note: Hotline – Where Are You From
youtube
18. 22 Century Girl – fromis_9
I feel that my obsession with fromis_9 is still at its earliest stage, and that by the end of 2019 I will have gone totally mad for them. I am in love with their singles – To Heart, Love Bomb, what instant classics! – but the whirlwind of sounds of fever dream 22 Century Girl have stolen my heart.
Other songs of note: To Heart – Love Bomb
youtube
17. Blue Moon – Gyeong Ree
Another one for the theme of this list: house! Give me all of it in your pop songs! Here’s hoping that Gyeong Ree (wasn’t it easier when she spelled it Kyungri? Anyway) continues her solo career with such intriguing, sophisticated but super-fun songs.
youtube
16. Stay Here – Sojung
I don’t know exactly, but I cry my eyes out more often than not when I hear this song. Ladies’ Code’s Sojung’s voce is as light as a feather, until it explodes in the soaring chorus. Everybody knows that I love any power ballad, but the complex emotional balance of this one is just on another level.
youtube
15. Now or Never – SF9
I can’t say I’ve been following SF9 as idols, but I have been listening to all their releases and they have given me nothing but quality. I know I complain about songs with drops, but the deep house (yep, again) and that sensual “jealous” have been killing me ever since they came into my life. It might be my favourite hook of 2018.
youtube
14. I Love You – EXID
I was a bit taken aback by EXID’s Lady earlier in the year, but it was love at first listen with I Love You. The distorted hook opens and holds together a song that has all the best of EXID, including Solji, who has returned stronger than ever with flawless vocals and zero shame.
Other songs of note: Lady
youtube
13. Dejavu – NU'EST W
You guessed it – house. Nothing has given me as much joy as the rise of NU’EST W, and I’ve been even happier because they did it with superb, incredibly on-trend songs while retaining the dark charm of their pre-success material. They really leaned into the “sexy bandit” thing, and I’m all for it.
Other songs of note: YlenoL – Shadow – Feels – Help Me
youtube
12. Oh! My mistake – APRIL
This song is fluffy and super-poppy and at the same time side-eye in music, if that was ever possible. The super-innocent and cute concept that APRIL have been doing since forever is now tinged with tongue-in-cheek sarcasm, and a little creepy synth that perfectly matches the theme of the track. It’s so addictive and so delicious.
Other songs of note: Oh-e-Oh – BEEP
youtube
11. Snapshot – IN2IT
I love when smaller groups do really, really great and out of the box stuff instead of copying their more successful peers. I’ve watched countless performances, entranced by the bass that opens the song, holding my breath for that “heartbeat go fast, heartbeat go slow”. This is one sexy song, and IN2IT are one good rookie group that I will keep my eye on.
youtube
10. Timeless – NCT U
Leave it to me to find the most niche release a super-popular group has had, and fall in love with it so deeply that the rest (most of which I hated, not sorry) doesn’t count. NCT are too big of a group with some really, really good singers hiding in the back line while the rappers swagger about. I loved that some of them got their chance to show off and I adore this poetic, heartbreaking song.
Other songs of note: Boss – Baby Don’t Stop – Replay (PM 01:27)
youtube
9. Shine – Pentagon
I have to wonder if this song would have been higher in my charts if it wasn’t for the bloodbath that was of Pentagon and their career after this song came out. It’s such a pity that such a feelgood song has become, well, not so feelgood. This song’s wonky piano riff and anthemic chorus are still a delight, and their personality really shines (LOL) through. OT10 forever.
Other songs of note: Off-road
youtube
8. The Grand Dreams – Minseo
Where did Minseo even come from? Why hasn’t she been here our entire lives? Her dreamy vocals have been giving me life this year, and her refined musical sense (or of her producers, really) is a breath of fresh air when everything gets a bit to same-y in k-pop.
Other songs of note: Is Who
youtube
7. One of Those Nights – Key ft. Crush
Key came in last minute and slapped us all in the face with a perfect album that is reminiscing of SHINee’s work from earlier in the year, but also shows his personality as an artist. The lead single One of Those Nights moves fast and interweaves the melancholy of the lyrics in the music. Both Key and Crush are shockingly good vocalists, but together they just make each other shine even more.
youtube
6. Allegro Cantabile – Nature
Random music terms / Italian? I had to check it out. Nature put out something that’s a musical number, j-pop anime opening and k-pop bubblegum all in one. Their vocals are amazing and they are adorable. I’m excited to follow them into 2019.
youtube
5. DDU-DU DDU-DU – BLACKPINK
Is this Blackpink’s best offering? No. But what does it say when your not-best is still miles ahead of the competition? Blackpink have been doing k-pop bangers better than anyone else, and DDU-DU DDU-DU, from Jennie’s spitfire rap to Rosé’s melodies, hits all the right spots (like a ddu-du ddu-du).
Other songs of note: See U Later
youtube
4. Puzzle Moon – GWSN
This song is so good. These girls are so good. As I put together this list, I realised how much all I wanted in 2018 was a good deep house sample, and GWSN delivered. The bass contrasts elegantly with the tiny voices, and the obscure chorus – “make it moon” – emphasizes the magical atmosphere of this song.
youtube
3. Air – Winner
I miss old Winner. New Winner’s YOLO swag annoys me at best, so I dig through their b-sides in search for what we lost when Taehyun left. Air’s appropriately breathy chorus and gentle, romantic atmosphere did it for me and managed to put Winner on my podium yet again. Good job, Winner. Now stop it with the tropical house.
Other songs of note: We Were – Movie Star – Raining – Have A Good Day
youtube
2. KILLING ME – iKON
The year started well for me (and everyone else) and iKON with Love Scenario, but I had no idea of where it would bring us. Killing Me’s bitter, moody atmosphere made for the dance song of my dreams. The decisive beat and array of distortions somehow create an eerie, understated atmosphere. It’s a dance song, but make it sad and a little creepy.
Other songs of note: Love Scenario – Rubber Band – Beautiful – Perfect – Freedom – Don't Let Me Know
youtube
1. Oh My – Monsta X
I know. I am annoying myself by picking a b-side as my favourite song of the year, but here we are. Monsta X have become one of my very favourite groups and, while their album songs have always been amazing, to me Oh My summarizes everything I love and everything I want from them. In a year of minimalism, it’s loud, larger than life, unafraid of bleeps and bloops, rich in both vocals (Kihyun!) and proper rap sections. It’s the powerhouse that I expect from them and I hope to hear again and again.
Other songs of note: Jealousy – Destroyer – Fallin' – Spotlight

Fugazi, Theaterfabrik, Munich, Germany 6/16/92 (FLS #0468)
The city of Munich welcomed Fugazi 5 times between 1989-1999, this 1992 concert being the third stopover. It played out at the Theaterfabrik, as did the two previous concerts in 1989 and 1990 respectively. It turned out to be the last time as well, since the venue got torn down after getting shut down in 1992.
Although the audience are rather low in the mix which makes it difficult to discern part of the “dialogue”, it appears this is a bit of a confrontational gig, as several altercations between band and a handful of patrons (hurling insults or urging the band what to play) arise and the patience of both Ian and Guy wears thin because of it.
In this regard, it is interesting to note that in the December 1, 2011 NPR article Steady Diet Of Everything: The Fugazi Live Vault, Ian fervently recalls this specific show, as it portrays one of his favorite Fugazi live moments:
“There’s a really great show from Munich, in I think the early ‘90s, '93,“ MacKaye says. "At that time, it was pretty typical for the audience to say things like, 'Get on with it!’ and 'Play the music! Just play!’ I remember we had come back on stage for an encore, and somebody was lost or confused, or I don’t know; something had happened and somebody needed help. So we were trying to say, 'Hey, there’s a woman back here, she’s lost and she’s looking for her friends.’ And some guy was just yelling, 'Get on with it! Just play!’ And at that moment, I understood the dynamic, what was going on in this relationship, where he was a consumer and wanted to consume. He wanted sound. So at that moment, we just all turned on our guitars and started feedback, and it was a wall of feedback. And it was like, 'Okay, here’s sound. You just want sound.’ There was no actual engagement with the music; it was just sound they wanted."So it’s maybe five minutes of just feedback. It was a totally surreal moment, and when I hear that, I can smell that moment. It’s so visceral to me, but it’s one of my favorites, because we go right into a song from that.”
The overall audio quality of the recording is not the best, the vocals and drums slightly distant or “hollow” if that makes sense. But it is still quite good or enjoyable and the somewhat bellicose mood (Ian refers to it as “a curious relationship” every time they come to Munich) definitely adds to the merit of the recorded document.
The selection of 22 songs draws on the yet to be released (at the time) In on the Kill Taker album (4; note the different “Morse” on Facet Squared as well as a handful of different lines in the lyrics of Rend It), Steady Diet of Nothing (7), Repeater (5), 3 Songs seven-inch (1), Margin Walker EP (1) and debut 7 Songs EP (3).
The set presents a rarish 1992 live rendering of Burning (performed only 9 times, out of which 2 times in the US and 7 times in Europe) (the intro is cut slightly short here, probably because of the cassette getting turned). Bangers include Sieve-Fisted Find, which lights the show up for me, as well as Turnover, Two Beats Off (Guy is up to some more song referencing in his lyrics, but I can’t figure this one out), or Promises.
The band also performs a bit of rockabilly while they “trace the entire history of rock and roll, from, I don’t know, say the birth of Christ” to taunt some people demanding the band play Minor Threat songs, with Guy and Ian alternately singing “Jesus was born, son of [...] Mary” and “Jesus was a guy hanging on a cross.”
While the live archive contains numerous incredible Reprovisional improvs, this recording arguably presents the most outlandish, free-form, outright stellar live version of the staple (w/ extensive Roadrunner tag) I have heard so far, clocking in at no less than 8 mins 18 secs (for your reference, the album version is merely 2 mins 18 secs). If you listen closely, you can hear the guitars pick up the rockabilly theme again as well at one point, pure genius!
Right after Ian thanks the audience, someone announces “the police are outside, so this has to be it, so please exit quietly, thanks a lot.” This wraps it up.
The set list:
1. Merchandise 2. Nice New Outfit 3. Greed 4. Latin Roots 5. Intro 6. Reclamation 7. Sieve-Fisted Find 8. Facet Squared 9. Rend It 10. Interlude 1 11. Stacks 12. Turnover 13. Interlude 2 14. Song #1 15. Give Me The Cure 16. Waiting Room 17. Burning 18. Interlude 3 19. Long Division 20. Runaway Return 21. Great Cop 22. Two Beats Off 23. Promises 24. Encore 1 25. Sweet and Low 26. Repeater 27. Interlude 4 28. Reprovisional 29. Outro

hamilton ; act i - plot explained
so this beautiful piece of art starts w everybody singing ab, you guessed it, a. ham. (alexander hamilton)
after they're done w all that, hamilton is looking for a. burr who basically tells hamilton to shut up and look pretty but ham is a lil slow on this concept. (aaron burr, sir) hamilton meets his boyf j. laurens, some french dude lafayette, + some guy who fucks horses herc mulligan. ham shows off to them ab how he doesn't shut up. (my shot) the bros all chat ab how they'll be bros forever. (the story of tonight) then we meet a few rich gals, angelica, eliza, + peggy. (the schuyler sisters)
so there's this dude sam seabury who fuckin h a t e s the american rev & ham is like 'u r super dumb & wrong.' (farmer refuted) king george iii sings a breakup song to usa. (you'll be back)
ham, burr & their bros join this army & while the army skrts from nyc, g. washington is like 'hot damn i have no friends' & ham swerves on in all like 'I AM HERE' & then they became bffs. (right hand man)
ok so those ladies from earlier, their daddy philip is throwin a rager & ham wants to get his dick wet w a schuyler kiddo. (a winter's ball) angie introduces eliza to ham & eliza is all heart eyes at him & it is so frickin cute & they get married. (helpless) BUT angie also wants to get her dick wet w alex but she's not gonna tell him bc her sis is a ray of sunshine & she wouldn't break her heart like that. (satisfied) the bro squad is gettin wasted after the wedding & burr tells ham he's fucking this sweetie theodosia who's married to a b r i t i s h officer !!! (the story of tonight reprise) ham supports burr like a good "friend" & tells burr to tell ppl ab it. but burr decides to avoid his problems & be a pussy. (wait for it)
ok so now the revolution is happening and big chillin and hamilton reeeaaaaaaaalllly wants to be put in command but washington reeeaaaaaaaalllly doesn't give a fuck and promotes this fella charles lee which was such a goof for him bc in the battle of monmouth lee literally does the exact opposite of what washington said to. so washington is all like 'hm since ur fired if only there was someone else who wanted to be in command. oh yes i know!! lafayette has been h*ckin wanting to do this!!' so lee just talks mad shit ab washington. (stay alive) so at this point alex is a lil feisty but doesn't wanna do anything his daddy george says not to. instead alex's boyf laurens duels lee & ham is laurens' 2nd while the ever loyal burr is lee's 2nd. laurens fucks up lee a lil bit & is all good w that. (ten duel commandments) washington is pissed ab all that so he kicks ham out. (meet me inside) so ham goes home and eliza is preggers!!! ham is a lil insecure that eliza will leave him n shit but she's a sweetie and reassures him. (that would be enough)
lafayette being the baguette he is gets france to help out the us. he raps super fast & makes everybody even more in love w him. he and washington realize they need our mans alex to go thru w their plan for yorktown so washington lets alex be in command!! (guns and ships) ALRIGHT so it's the night of the battle washington is talking to his son alex & tells him to not fuck up. (history has its eyes on you) the army WON after fighting for a bit bc the british surrender !!!! (yorktown) now king georgey is confused on wtf is happening. (what comes next)
a lil bit after the battle, eliza has bby philip and alex and burr also has a bby named theodosia and they sing a cute lil lullaby ab it. (dear theodosia) ready to cry kiddos ???? good. alex gets a letter saying that his boyfriend laurens was killed in a stupid fucking dumb battle. alex is really torn up about this and just doesn't stop writing shit. (tomorrow they'll be more of us) now we're getting into a big banger. alex and aaron are both going back to nyc cause they wanna be lawyers. burr is jealous of alex as all hell and alex gets chosen for the constitutional convention !!!! ok so alex and these guys john jay and james madison got together to write the federalist papers. they were gonna write 25 essays. john jay got sick after writing five. james madison wrote 29. hamilton wrote the other FIFTY-ONE!! good old angelica says that she's getting married to this dude she doesn't rlly like & she's moving to london. president washington gets alex to be treasury secretary but eliza is not a fan of that. (non-stop) END OF ACT ONE FELLAS!!!

Suwa’s first credits were on anime series such as Honey and Clover and Happy Lesson: The Final. While at Tanto, Suwa has tasked with checking the in-betweens on Makoto Shinkai’s The Place Promised in Our Early Days film.
In September 2007, Tanto closed its doors. By this time, Suwa had become a key animator for the studio with his last credits for them being for anime series’ GR -GIANT ROBO- and Over Drive. After, Suwa worked closely with anime studio Xebec. Xebec had led the production on many shows that were outsourced to Tanto and when the studio folded, Suwa was given the opportunity to work on Xebec-led series and outsourced projects such as Kanokon and Evangelion 2.0 as a key animator and second key animator.
Suwa’s big break came as an animator director and key animator on the Manglobe produced series The World God Only Knows. He continued to work with Manglobe on a number of series as a key animator, such as Gangsta. and House of Five Leaves. During this time, Suwa also started working with Bones as a key animator, with credits on Bones-led series such as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and as an animator director on Blast of Tempest. Suwa worked his way up to become the chief animation director on Chaika –The Coffin Princess- and its sequel series.

During the production of Under The Dog, Masahiro Suwa was asked to join Kinema Citrus as a key animator to work on the OVA. Since then, he’s helped out with the character designs on Made in Abyss, was one of the chief animation directors on Scorching Ping Pong Girls, and of course, was the character designer and chief animation director on The Rising of the Shield Hero.

      Terumi Nishii
It wouldn’t be a surprise if you’ve never heard of Terumi Nishii, but she is an animator that has touched many famous works over the years. You’ll be surprised to find out that multiple anime series and movies share a special bond thanks to her.
Terumi Nishii’s first credits in the anime industry were usually found next to Studio Cockpit. After graduating from Osaka College of Design, she started working with Studio Cockpit as an in-betweener, with her first known credit being Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie. She was quickly promoted to a key animator position on Pilot Candidate and her career bloomed.
During her time at Studio Cockpit, Nishii racked in credits as a key animator on hit anime like Pokémon 3: The Movie, Angelic Layer, Initial D: Fourth Stage, Love Hina and many more.
After parting ways with Studio Cockpit, Ishii’s big break came on Fushigiboshi no Futago Hime, where she was the Chief Animation Director. During production, she was also an animation director and key animator on cult-classic MUSHI-SHI in 2005. She would return to the series nearly a decade later for MUSHI-SHI The Next Passage in the same roles, along with helping an assistant animation director and 2nd key animator for the episodes she wasn’t in a main role for.
At the start of her career, Nishii worked closely with Hisashi Kagawa, who took her under his wing alongside Mitsuko Baba. They all worked on Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie together and because of this and her love of the Utena franchise (of which she made doujinshi of), Nishii was asked by Kunihiko Ikuhara to create the character designs for Peguindrum.
Since then, Nishi has been the lead character designer and animation director on a number of works. These anime include Servant × Service, Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya, and part 4 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable.
You can find her at the following events:

    Yuzuru Tachikawa and Yoshimichi Kameda
It’s hard to talk about Yuzuru Tachikawa and Yoshimichi Kameda separately, as they’re a team that has threads of animation that lead back to episode 341 of Bleach. With Tachibana on direction and storyboard, and Kameda on animation, this super sakuga team have worked together on Death Parade, FLIP FLAPPERS, Kill la Kill, and the aforementioned Bleach. Their biggest hit to date though has been the jaw-dropping Mob Psycho 100.
But let’s turn back the clock a little and see where they came from, starting with Yuzuru Tachikawa. Tachikawa started out in the anime industry working for Madhouse in 2006. His first credit was for Kiba in setting production. He must have made a good impression because his first directorial credit was for the final episode of the same anime series.
Tachikawa’s final credit for Madhouse before moving onto freelancing was for Kobato. where he was an episode director and animation director on three episodes. Whilst freelancing, he was courted by Pierrot to work on Bleach. The first episode he's credited for on the shonen series was the May 2010 episode, “Ichigo Dies! Orihime, the Cry of Sorrow!”, the 271st episode of the series, as a storyboarder.
Obviously impressing the producers and directors on the long-running show, Tachikawa got his chance to direct his own episode the very next year, episode 319. Tachikawa’s work on Bleach is said to be what got him noticed by the anime industry at large and led to more and more projects.
One of these projects was directing episode 12 of Steins;Gate, a fan favourite episode of the series, along with being a storyboarder for episode 7 of Sword Art Online. But it wasn’t until a collaboration between Tachikawa and Madhouse for the Anime Mirai project that Tachikawa would be blasted into the stars. The collaboration turned into the original short anime film Death Billiards in 2013, which morphed into Death Parade in 2015, Tachikawa’s directorial debut. He is credited as the original creator, along with storyboarding and being a unit director on the show's banger of an OP.
youtube
This industry clout let Tachikawa work on some of the biggest projects of the decade. This included working closely with Shinichiro Watanabe on Terror in Resonance as a storyboarder, episode director, assistant director and many more roles in the hit show. Tachikawa also worked on Yuri!! on ICE, Lupin the Third - The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, One-Punch Man and the biggest Detective Conan film of all time, Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer.
After being popular within the industry for over a decade, Tachikawa’s mainstream popularity came from best-boy series, Mob Psycho 100. Tachikawa worked closely with Kameda to craft one of the most visually appealing series ever created. With Tachikawa on direction, storyboard and overall looking over the series, and Kameda on character design and all the animation roles, together they created a show that goes beyond 100%.
youtube
Yoshimichi Kameda, on the other hand, is an animator at heart. After not being accepted for a job at Studio Ghibli as an animator, Kameda went on to a vocational school wanting to study more than just animation and hone his skills. On that front, he failed. At school, he mostly created animations, using cuts from Gainax series as references. His love for the company and the people who started Gainax grew and when Kameda graduated from vocational school, he applied to be an animator at Gainax.
Kameda applied three times to the studio by sending them a giant box of his creations from school. The boxes were returned to Kameda all three times, with the second returned box having a note that read “At this time, we’re really sorry…”
Not being dismayed, Kameda applied for the studio AIC as they worked closely with Gainax as an outsource studio on their projects. This led to his first credits being for video work on Pumpkin Scissors and in-between animation for Ah! My Goddess: Flights of Fancy. During his time working for AIC, Kameda wasn’t able to fully flex his animations muscles – even if he did get to work on Gainax’s Gurren Lagann – and moonlighted under a pen name.
This pen name let him work as a key animator on Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, where he caught the keen eye of Bones producers and was asked to freelance at the studio as a key animator. Since then, Kameda has been able to soar through the anime industry. He’s moved up the ranks to become a character designer and animation director on projects such as Paroru no Miraijima and Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Treasure Island, has worked as an action animation director on One-Punch Man, and was even a guest alien designer on Space Dandy Season 2.
Kameda was finally granted his wish to work with the superstar animators of Gainax Past when he was asked to be a key animator on Hiroyuki Imashi’s Kill la Kill at Trigger and Hideaki Anno’s Evangelion 3.0 at Khara. I wonder if they remembered his giant box?

Doing another one of those looking back surveys ‘cos it’s fun to do that sort of thing as a way to cap off the year. This is one of the first surveys I took, all the way back in 2012. Let’s gooooo. [Edit: I wasn’t able to finish this by the end of the year, so I guess I’m opening this year instead with a throwback hahaha]
Do you usually sleep with your closet door open or closed? Closed. I’m pretty OC, so if I leave them opened I’d only end up irritated. Now: Closed. Why the hell would I leave my closet open?
Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotels? My mom does. Now: Dear 14 year old Robyn, I don’t know what you were observing but your mom definitely never took anything from the hotel??? But to answer the question, no I don’t. The most I’d take is probably a notepad. Have you ever ‘done it’ in a hotel room? No. Now: Six years later, yep.
Where is your next vacation? My family haven’t decided yet! Now: We’re flying over to somewhere in Bicol a couple of months from now.
Have you ever stolen a street sign before? Nope. Now: No, that’ll never serve me any sort of purpose lmfao.
Who do you think reads these? Meh, no one. Now: Surprisingly, both my old survey blog and this one have earned its share of followers, so I guess at some points my surveys are being read. I say ‘surprisingly’ because both blogs were just meant to be a feelings dump for myself, and I never expected anyone to read my posts.
Do you have a calendar in your room? Like, one that’s hanging on wall? No. Now: Nope. I have one on my phone, which is more convenient.
Where are you? I’m in my house. On a bed. In my room. Now: ^ Literally the same answer. I guess little has changed when it comes to this.
What’s your plan for the day? Finish Romeo and Juliet and start on that Friar Lawrence essay. Now: Hahahaha freshman year. Well it’s New Year’s Eve, so my crazed mom is gonna take us to church to idk I guess ~commemorate the end of the year because apparently god still has to be involved in that. We normally celebrate NYE at home since our rooftop has the best view of the fireworks, so I’m guessing we’ll have media noche and then wait for the clock to strike midnight.
Are you reading any books right now? Yeah. Romeo and Juliet. Now: I’m reading Bret Hart’s Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling. I’m also reading AJ Lee/Mendez’s (I never know what to call her anymore) Crazy is My Superpower, and sometimes I’ll skim through Chris Jericho’s The Best in the World: At What I Have No Idea because Jericho’s always a good read. Obviously, wrestling autobiographies are my thing.
Do you ever count your steps when you walk? Occasionally. Now: I literally never counted my steps. What the hell was young Robyn so loud for?
Have you ever peed in the woods? No. Now: Nope.
Do you ever dance even if there’s no music playing? Yes…maybe it’s why I have no friends? Now: ^ Stop trying to sound cool, you hate dancing with every atom in your body. I don’t dance, even if there is music playing; but the grand exception to this is when I danced my soul out at my Paramore show last August. I’d be crazy not to have.
Do you chew your pens and pencils? Uh. Yuck. Now: Never did. I liked chewing on my lollipop sticks though.
What is your “Song of the Week”? Night On Earth - The Bouncing Souls Now: Haven’t listened to a lot for this depression break, but let’s go with Paramore’s Franklin. Night on Earth is a fucking banger though.
Is it okay for guys to wear pink? Of course. Now: Of course.
Do you still watch cartoons? You bet I do. Never letting the kid in me go. Now: If I catch a rerun of Spongebob then yeah. But I generally still agree with the answer I gave. We Bare Bears is a favorite.
Whats your favorite love movie? Titanic, Love Actually, Friends With Benefits. Now: The Proposal, Love Actually...do Revolutionary Road and Eternal Sunshine count?
What do you drink with dinner? I drink water most of the time. Now: Water’s still my bet.
What do you dip Chicken Nuggets in? Barbecue sauce. Now: Whatever’s available, but barbecue seems to be the default dip.
What is your favorite food/cuisine? I enjoy pizza and fried chicken. Now: Indian food for days. Also sushi. I’m not much of a pizza person anymore; I’d get it while on a date with Gab but my heart belongs to sushi this time around.
What movies could you watch over and over and still love? Titanic! Now: Yeah...Titanic’s still That Bitch. But also Ferris Bueller’s Day Off! That’s a fun movie to see if I just want to spend a fun two hours watching something.
Last person you hugged/kissed? Last one I hugged was Gabie; I’ve never kissed anyone. Now: My five-year-old cousin went in for a hug when I came over to see her the other night. My girlfriend was my last kiss.
Were you ever a boy/girl scout? Nope. Now: Never been.
Would you ever strip or pose nude in a magazine? Never. Now: Never.
When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper? Last month during my class’s recollection. Now: One of my friend groups did a secret Santa, but we also required everyone to write a letter alongside our gift/s. That said, I wrote a reeeeally long, handwritten letter to Laurice, who I happen to have grown close to this year.
Can you change the oil on a car? No. Now: Nah. I leave that to my dad.
Ever gotten a speeding ticket? No; I can’t even drive yet. Now: I dunno if the Philippines actually has a speeding rule? People here drive like death when the roads are miraculously clear (they never are except for Sundays and holidays) because it’s bumper-to-bumper traffic in the city 24/7, but they’re never pulled over. There are speeding rules on the expressways but people don’t seem to mind that as well, so I doubt getting pulled over for speeding is actually a thing here.
Run out of gas? Nope. Now: No that’s like one of my biggest fears. What happens when your car runs out of gas? I imagine it to be like that scene in Toy Story where Buzz and Woody are trying to chase the moving truck, so they use RC to move faster, but then his battery dies and he just kind of slows down lmao.
Favorite kind of sandwich? Chicken/gourmet. Now: Sandwiches aren’t my go-to so I don’t really have a favorite. I don’t know what I was talking about when I meant ~gourmet sandwich, what a feeler haha.
Best thing to eat for breakfast? BACON. Now: I like eating waffles with bacon inside. Omelettes with everything put in is great too, and so are scrambled eggs.
What is your usual bedtime? On school nights, 9 PM. On Friday nights it ranges from 10 to 12. When I’m on summer vacation I don’t sleep at all. Now: Yeah, I pretty much still sleep at 9 at the earliest on school nights. A bitch needs to function the next day. On Fridays and weekends I’d sleep at 1 AM at the latest, but that depends because sometimes I’ll have school stuff on a Saturday.
Are you lazy? The laziest. Now: I have my periods but when I do work I bust my ass off.
When you were a kid, what did you dress up as for Halloween? Tinkerbell! Now: Various stuff...I was Tinkerberll, I was a pirate, I dressed up as my former best friend, I was AJ Lee, I was Daria. I’ve had a lot of costumes through the years.
Do you have any magazine subscriptions? Nope. Now: No, I was never subscribed to any. I did buy Total Girl every month when I was like 6 up until I was maybe 11 or 12. It’s an Australian magazine for girls, or, as they liked to call my age group at the time, ~tweens.
Which are better, legos or lincoln logs? LEGO! Grew up playing those. And I’d end up crying after I stepped on them. Now: I was never familiar with Lincoln logs. We had crates of LEGO blocks though.
Are you stubborn? Very. Now: Yep, ‘very’ sums it up nicely.
Who is better…Leno or Letterman? Dunno. Should I give a crap about them? Now: I definitely don’t give a crap about either now...I mostly watch Fallon if I want to see celebrities doing silly gags, cos he does a great job making his show super entertaining.
Ever watch soap operas? Yes, when I want to laugh at horrible acting. Now: 14 year old me didn’t have to be so mean. No, I’ve never been into soap operas.
Afraid of heights? Yes. Now: No, only when I’m in a ride, which is partly why I stopped going to amusement parks altogether.
Sing in the car? Don’t we all? Now: All the time, but only when I’m alone.
Dance in the shower? No. Now: Just really rarely.
Dance in the car? When there’s enough space yes. Now: Literally never. Wtf was I lying so much for??
Ever used a gun? No. Now: Never, but lately I’ve been really interested in the idea of going to a shooting range for funsies.
Do you think musicals are cheesy? No. I think they’re the best. Now: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. What the fuck Robyn!!! You’ve hated musicals ever since and you hate it now. Stop lying and stop trying to sound cool!!!
Is Christmas stressful? Yes. Waiting 25 days to open that awfully tempting, beautifully wrapped present under the Christmas tree is really stressful honestly. Now: Buying gifts is stressful. Receiving gifts and opening them have leveled down on the excitement factor these days. Such is getting old.
Ever eat a pierogi? A what? Now: Nope.
Major annoyance right now? The fact that I have to write an essay about Friar Lawrence from Romeo and Juliet. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy writing but when you’re forced to write something you’re not really enthusiastic about, it’s just. Not. Fun. Now: I have to go back to school by next week and I just want to be on a much longer break.
Occupations you wanted to be when you were a kid? A fireman. Now: Fireman, astronaut, veterinarian.
Do you believe in ghosts? Yes. Now: I’m always open to the idea.
Ever have a deja-vu feeling? Like once a week. Now: Pretty often, yeah.
Do you take a vitamin daily? No. Hardly do. Now: Nah, not anymore.
Wear slippers? Occasionally. Now: Only when I’m at the beach or a pool.
Wear a bath robe? Yes. Now: Sometimes.
What do you wear to bed? Tank top + shorts. Now: I wear t-shirts more now, but yeah I woul wear tank tops on warmer nights.
Wal-Mart, Target or K-Mart? None of the above. I haven’t entered any of these stores yet, because I live in boring, old Philippines. Now: I don’t care about any of these.

All The Best Hip-Hop Albums Released This Month
Getty / Uproxx Studios
There was a pleasant variety of rap dropped this month, with a theme of cult fanbases being fed with quality work they’ve desired for a while. Young Thug finally dropped another solo album with On The Rvn and Chicago represented with both Noname and Lupe Fiasco releasing some of the best albums of the year in Room 25 and Drogas Wave respectively. 6lack is also free again, finally delivering his sophomore project and opening up about label woes under Flo Rida that gave even more context to the struggles he explored on his poignant East Atlanta Love Letter. There was also new work from Brockhampton and Roc Marciano that will satisfy two divergent fanbases’ fervor for new music.
Young Thug, On The Rvn
300 Ent/Atl
Thankfully for everyone, this title isn’t literal. Days after a warrant was issued for his arrest on gun and drug charges, Thugger announced his On The Rvn project. But he didn’t take anyone on a chase, he offered another thrilling sonic ride for his rabid fanbase. The track engendering the most hysteria his cover of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” on the glorious “High,” where he croons with a grace even Sir Elton commended on his Apple radio show.
He also has another pair of collabs that aren’t quite as intergenerational, getting with 6lack on the guitar-driven “Climax” and Jaden Smith on the braggadocious “Sin.” Thug’s latest project wades in similar waters as his EBBTG album, which peers like Yung Bans and Gunna have clearly been inspired by, but Thugger is in own world, unencumbered by any inclinations to do anything other than what he wants.
Lupe Fiasco, Drogas Wave
1st & 15th
Lupe Fiasco has had a bit of a tumultuous ride through the industry, but that turmoil may be over, as he’s independent and releasing music strictly for his “core fans,” as he noted on Twitter. Enter Drogas Wave, a 24-track concept album that imagines a world where some of the Africans transported on slave ships jumped off them and lived underwater to roam the seas and destroy other slave ships. The premise is ambitious, but Lupe nails it in impressive fashion. His days of stifling his lyricism for mass appeal are over, as songs like “Manilla” and “Kings Nas” show off the array of skills that had him being called a “breath of fresh air” for hip-hop by Jay-Z. Lupe’s fans can breathe again, because he’s reinvigorated.
Wale, Free Lunch
MMG/Warner Bros
Much like Lupe Fiasco, Wale is letting his music do the talking these days. The DC artist is steadily building his buzz, and the discussion about him is no longer centered on where he ranks among MCs, or his dissatisfaction with how most people place him. It’s just about good music. In that regard, he gave us Free Lunch to enjoy, with a 5-track EP showing off his ability to work his magic over a range of productions and vibes.
He collaborates with J. Cole on “My Boy,” then takes it back to his essence on the Go-Go influenced “Dummies,” and “Ungrateful Thankful” — which is simply too DC for the user with references to infamous hoods in the nation’s capital. He asserts that despite an influx of rising DMV artists, he’s “on top, really, coldest in my city, coldest in my county/Who’s messin’ with me?” The answer to that question dwindles with every strong showing from Wale.
Brockhampton, Iridescence
Question Everything / RCA Records
For a group as large as Brockhampton, It’s hard enough to get on the same page creatively, but after they excommunicated prominent member Ameer Vann after abuse allegations, they had to do more regrouping than usual on their follow up to All-American Trash. Luckily, they came through on Iridescence, a smorgasbord of musicality that properly weaves the group’s myriad sonic influences together.
“J’Oveurt” sounds like a deranged NERD composition, with a sinister bass and crisp percussion riling the crew to rhyme with fury. “San Marcos” is a soaring, optimistic pop ballad that rests almost divergent to songs like the Houston-influenced “Where The Cash At” and drum and bass of “Weight”. The popular phrase is to get you someone who can do both — or you can just be like Brockhampton and put together a team who can do everything.
Noname, Room 25
Noname
Chicago’s Noname fully funded and meticulously crafted Room 25, a soulful, reflective album that she said she put together in two weeks — after living life and finding inspiration in the interim since her debut mixtape, Telefone. Noname examines the breadth of experiences on the thoughtful album. The album picks up its stride with the stream-of-consciousness musings on “Blaxploitation” which not only displays her lyrical ability over a funky drum break but her knack for applying poignant social commentary to her everyday life. From the government’s culpability for her being an “insomni-Black,” to how “globalization scary and fuckin’ is fantastic” on the soulful “Ace” with Smino and Saba, she weaves a bevy of wisdom into her poetic rhymes.
The rest of the album showcases her spoken word-esque delivery over a range of rich, live instrumentation that she paid for on her own. In every sense of the word, Room 25 is all hers. We’re just lucky to pop it in and feel like it belongs to us as well for 35 minutes.
6lack, East Atlanta Love Letter
LVRN Records
After some label woes, 6lack is finally free to create and crafted a gorgeous East Atlanta Love Letter. The multi-talented, genre-bending rapper used various lush, murky sonic canvasses to delve deep and explore his meaning of struggle. Whether it’s confessional explorations of his fractured romantic relationships on “Ex Calling” or the struggle of being “tired,” but still able to “find the time, to care a little more about my rhymes, to care a little more about my peers, To think a little less about my fears, To care a little more about your ears,” as he brilliantly laid out on the anguished “Nonchalant.” We’re grateful for his artistic attentiveness, as he’s at his best when thoughtfully exploring his inner dialogue and welding hip-hop and R&B together in the most intriguing way possible for 14 tracks.
YBN, YBN The Mixtape
2018
The young bosses are ready to take the rap game by storm. This collective is defying the bounds of today’s demands for labels and crews to fit inside a niche. YBN Nahmir has the hitmaker factor in tow with catchy hooks, YBN Almighty Jay holds his own with braggadocious bangers, and YBN Cordae is able to flex with them while also showing off his lyrical chops. You probably can’t go around them with arguments pitting boom-bap and trap against each other because the trio is working together, co-existing in intriguing fashion.
The project centers YBN, but has a slew of features, from young upstarts Lil Skies on the playful “Think Twice” and Cuban Doll and Asian Doll on “Double Back,” to vets like Gucci Mane on the flashy “New Drip” and Wiz Khalifa on “Cake.” Most of the tracks follow the same format, with thunderous bass and catchy, blippy synth melodies. Cordae’s presence isn’t felt as heavily on the project, but he impresses on “Target,” which showcases his storytelling ability that harkens to hip-hop classics of the 80s and 90s.
G Perico, Guess What
So Way Out LLC
West Coast upstart G Perico is back with some new, dropping his Guess What mixtape last week. He starts off the project letting us know “sh*t going better than ever,” which is no surprise given his knack for gritty LA street tales over slappin’ beats. Whether he’s rapping about “playin to win” and lames on the piano-driven “All Nighter,” in a blue mood on “Wit The Gangstas,” or asking women “when you lay in the bed, do you think about me?” on the atmospheric “What You Thinkin,” G Perico is showing out. The track is another strong exhibition that should follow right up with YG’s Stay Dangerous and keep your W in the air.
Roc Marciano, Behold A Dark Horse
Decon / Man Bites Dog Records
Take that W and turn it to the side for New York’s Roc Marciano, who dropped his latest batch of slangology on Behold A Dark Horse, a 12-track showcase of abstract lyricism and storytelling over mystifying, head-nodding soundscapes. Take the self-produced “Diamond Cutter,” where he trades bars with Black Thought over a beat that sounds ripe for a ‘40s mystery film. Marciano is an acquired taste, cloaking his rhymes in a labyrinthic slang and nuggets of golden observation that can sound impenetrable to outsiders, but slowly intrigues over his soulful, hypnotizing tracks to the point where you’re playing back the sinister “Congo” over and over.
Get the album here.
Joey Purp, QUARTERTHING
Save Money
Joey Purp of Chicago’s Save Money collective dropped off the triumphant follow-up to 2016’s iiiDrops mixtape this month, showing off his lyrical versatility and why he’s one of a slew of names to watch in Chicago’s young hip-hop scene. Boasting collaborations with GZA and RZA (impressively on two different songs), the boisterous album shows him rhyming over dancefloor-ready tracks like “Elastic,” and “Aw Shit,” getting boisterous over like “Bag Talk,” “Karl Malone,” then gets gritty on “LeBron James,” where he talks about the wrong side of the streets. Some of the production was a bit too ambitious, but for the most part, Purp impressively commandeers the myriad production on a strong effort.
