I didn’t sit here for years tryna stay calm and silent while listening to your bad takes on gale (who grew up oppressed, in poverty and then witnessed his entire district getting wiped out then rightly went to fight in the rebellion because it was his inlg chance of tearing down the system the wanted him and his family dead) being a “terrorist war criminal who is single handedly responsible for killing innocent people including prim and who is the REAL villain of the hunger games” just for y’all to turn and start stanning and defending actual facist dictator and child trafficker Coriolanus Snow because you saw a young hot version of him.
#i actually do enjoy coryo as a villain and liked his origin story but people are really making excuses for him? and they know what he became#gale hawthorne#the hunger games#anti coriolanus snow#tbosas#like even in tbosas he shows that he is a sociopathic narissist. he tries to be good but those traits are still there and he embraced them#as for gale he was oppressed his entire life and lived in the poorest part of panem and resents the rich who were complicit in his suffering#the things he does for the resistance were things he thought was neccessary to win to end oppression#the other option was losing the rebellion and getting tortured killed and allowing snow to cause a lot more suffering#do i agree w everything he does? no because he is a character with flaws but i dont blame him one bit for decisions after the genocide of 12#he has to live with the consequences of what happened during the war and what he had to do to survive#but he is not a bad person for fighting back and willing to kill to survive he also does not understand the toll it takes to have to kill#him and snow are the same age and they both choose survival but snow is choosing power for himself and restoring his families wealth#and gale is choosing to join the rebellion and willing to fight for the sake of the rest of his people and to put an end to the suffering#one creates an oppressive society and one is tearing down that society both do whatever it takes#wow i guess i have more thoughts on gales character than i originally thought and the comparisons with snow are interesting

once more thinking about the tragedy of YA dystopia :/
like. they all just hopped on the capitalism train because of the hunger games’ success and like. just copy-catted instead of like, using dystopia for its intended purpose: to tell the reader what (the author thinks) society should never be like, based on an existing issue in the real world. like, most YA dystopia is straight up just made to capitalise on the dystopia craze without actually putting any political thought into a very political genre :/

matilda and mob psycho 100 are the only works of art ever about gifted children. i'm not interested about the rest.
#i love how their powers do carry the narrative but in a way that is so them#to pursue the things that are right to them#i also love how the adults in there are portrayed for different reasons#matilda is like yeah kids it is right to hate your parents. a power fantasy for me honestly#and mp100 has reigen fucking arataka. who is also shown to be in the wrong but has genuine love for this kid AND shows it#their messages are also opposite but not exactly?#matilda calls for rebellion against unfair adults from a kid standpoint. something i feel gifted kids perceive even more deeply#but it ends with her making a genuine connection with someone who sees her and gets her the accomodations she needs#making her quote unquote normal#and mob psycho 100 is explicitly about a gifted neurodivergent kid who got really lucky#his family supports his weirdness and never pushed the special one title on him#reigen also does this and also teaches him to see it as just one thing he happens to be good at#and yet he hides it bc he's aware it's not just superpowers what he has#in the same way gifted kids aren't only just smart a lot of the time. it's also a difference in perception of reality#and his character arc is insanely compassionate bc of this luck he had#and also filling in the aspects of himself that were hard for him to explore and grow in bc of what makes him different#this wholesomeness can only happen bc the ppl surrounding him are mostly kind#matilda's revenge is the only way she can fight to protect herself due to the environment she's in#they are both very close to me <3

with the rising fascism in the world, im not gonna trust any new medias with stories that make the villain an agent of chaos & terror while the hero/es fight to preserve the status quo.
#after 9/11 there was a rise in childrens media where this was exactly the case#a foreign threat to peace that must be eliminated#and sure there were a lot of good stories made with that format. doesnt erase the true intent being the message.#and now theres come a rise of stories with empires and dictators as villains who are destroyed by rebellions#a good example of the stories about preserving the status quo are literally all of the marvel movies#thats why ragnarok was breath of fresh air. they didnt preserve the legacy of someone who destroyed thousands in the name of 'keeping peace#odin's legacy was burned to ash and thor put his people first.#another example is HP. even the newest stories set hundreds of years in the past still aim to preserve the status quo#and make the oppressed trying to fight back into villains by giving them really good points and then making them into murderers#a good example of a story that does the OPPOSITE is the owl house. god that show was so perfect.#just the subtle touch of luz's magic not having a white core like belos's in the end was so perfect.#making her final most powerful form look like a stereotypical villain with the black eyes and clothes and her dark magic??#her palisman being able to shapeshift into stereotypically feared animals like spiders scorpions snakes and bats??#the fact that she looked like a demon while belos was pretending to be carrying out the will of his god? that he was on some holy crusade?#belos believing himself to be the hero of the story even to the bitter end because he couldnt imagine that people he considers subhuman#had any right to life. that they werent just pests to be crushed in the name of his god. and in the end he was the one crushed like a bug.#so good. so good. so good. dana terrace i am kissing you#i like the owl house more than i like gravity falls and BOY is that saying something#krav talks

So I know I'm a little late to the party but I just finished watching Andor and it was freaking amazing! I just need to let my thoughts out about what I think allowed the show to be so good compared to other recent Star Wars shows (this is literally just me rambling and someone has probably said all this before haha)
I think the main thing that allowed Andor to be such a good series is that it was a story before it was Star Wars. So many recent projects have been Star Wars before they were a story and they suffer from it. Star Wars should never be the story, it should be the backdrop for a story, it can inform the story and of course the world will impact how the story goes. But when trying to make a good Star Wars story the goal should never be to create a "Star Wars Story", that just leads to cramming in as many characters or tropes as you can without thinking about what is best for the story. The goal should instead be to create a story set in Star Wars. A story can of course include old characters when it makes sense for them to be there, like Yularen showing up in Andor or Luke coming to take Grogu, them being there makes sense for the story. Yularen is basically the leader of the ISB and Luke is working to restore the Jedi order. But there is an entire galaxy's worth of potential characters out there.
Andor is a story above all else, it takes place in the Star Wars universe yes and it has some of the old characters (Mothma, Saw, Yularen). But it doesn't let that overshadow the actual story. Which is what allowed it to be as great as it is. I also think another thing the series did amazing was making the empire scary and it showed that being part of the rebellion is not all fun and games. Which I just love.

I also think it’s a little misleading to claim that Rose got zero comeuppance for her actions before her passing considering her entire army consisting of her friends got corrupted. I know people overlook this (or possibly even just don’t think it’s possible given they seem to think she had no capacity to care about people) because they just want to blame her for it happening but that most definitely counts as a devastating consequence of the war she started. Not even mentioning the fact that she spent the rest of her life in hopeless pursuit of fixing it

I get being frustrated at one out of two gay characters getting killed off after one episode but also comparing joffrey to (show) loras who was reduced to a gay joke after s2 then spent s5-6 getting hatecrimed is um. Maybe not the best idea lol

I wish that they’d make a story where the dark side force user worked on the side of good.
And I don’t mean “Light side user who occasionally uses the dark side”, or “Grey Jedi”, or “Dark sider user sees the light and never uses the dark again”. No. No. I mean straight up. They are a fully committed dark side force user. Who is working to protect the galaxy. fighting on the side of good.
Because I am so. so tired of the same old “Dark= Bad and Light=Good” story. It’s over used in star wars at this point and there’s something really interesting about a sith or dark side user or inquisitor who chooses to fight for good even though their power is considered bad.

the His Dark Materials show has not only been true to the books’ anti-organized Christianity message, they’ve also been expanding on it a lot. since the books had limited povs we couldn’t really see what the bad guys were up to much, but the show gives you so many glimpses and they’re vile.
and the reason they’re so horrifying is because they’re not too far from what Christianity as a political power used to be like. (some of it is still applicable to this day, it’s just not as blatant in the real world)
anyway, the title “Father President” will haunt me in my sleep

last magireco bitching post for tonight i promise but i think all those people who complain that sayaka and homura are abusive and horrible and unreasonable for the crime of being manipulated and traumatized 14 year olds in awful situations and arent perfect little victims about it should go watch magireco and have their brains implode bc i think yachiyo is like. so much worse
#like yachiyo is actually an adult first of all they say shes in college and has been working for seven years#and i wont deny shes been through shit. shes felt guilty for her wish and watched her friends die#shes still a sympathetic character where u get why shes cold. but GOD the way she treats mifuyu makes me uncomfortable#like she regrets the worst of it when her doppel shows up but the narrative and mifuyu still go#''oh no yachiyo you ARE right to say that tee hee''#yachiyo gives me the vibe of someone who's like ''well IM suffering because of my choices. so should YOU''#also how she gets pissed at mifuyu for getting taken into a cult when shes at her lowest#and again keeps calling her weak like. good lord leave her alone#like. at least sayaka has a clear reason for acting the way she does and we see that in the show#shes guilty and traumatized from mami's death and is selfless to a fault#she blames homura for mami's death because of her own prejudices that have been instilled in her by then#she basically self sabotages and hurts herself because she thinks shes worthless compared to mami#she lost her childhood friend who. tbh really WASNT treating her well like obv he doesnt owe her a romance#but hes her childhood friend and he basically constantly brushes her off in the show#and we see more of that in rebellion where he does the same to hitomi#like. sayaka fucks up she gets cruel but you GET why she does it and it feels earned and good for the plot#yachiyo though. part of this is just character bloat and the weird pacing but her nastiness doesnt feel earned#yes season 2 shows that she wants to distance herself from others because her friends died. thats fair#that explains why she was cold in season 1. sure. thats fine that works as an arc and i usually love arcs like this#but then she's cruel to the lower grunts who were absolutely manipulated into the magias#and constantly implies theyre weak#and berates mifuyu (her best friend apparently) for breaking down after learning the truth#because ''oh well we DID accept this. we were idiots after all. lmao get over it and fight again''#and mifuyu is evil incarnate that must repent forever for. getting dragged into a cult at her lowest moment#after her friend was a dick to her fresh off her trauma. and of course leaving her which gave her Abandonment Issues#god sorry maybe the rest of the show will save it for me maybe itll call out this behavior from her#also it bugs me how even her cold behavior isnt really mentioned and shes just fawned over by the rest of the cast#like. sayaka and homura's behavior was called out as unhealthy and bad for them and the others!#echoed voice

everything about the Uriel & Castiel confrontation scene is also designed specifically to murder me
#the uriel-castiel-anna triangle of rebellion is sooo yummy#seriously if I could vote for two angels to be revived to stay thru the whole show#like the ones I think would be most narratively satisfying would be uriel and anna#I WANT TO SEE THEM EVOLVE ALONGSIDE CAS#we were robbed#good spn that lives in my brain where uriel & Anna & Cas make it to the end of the show#and they’re so fucked up about it. they really are.#all tried or succeeded in killing each other at least once#but they’re also like. heaven is nearly obliterated. they’re all that’s left of their garrison.#‘they’re all that’s left’ really turning out to be my new favorite relationship dynamic#it’s about clinging to what was once safe and warm and familiar. and knowing it’s not. knowing it never will be again.#but it was. you love it because it was. you love it and it hurts you and you love it still.#and like none of them get what they want#uriel’s belief in lucifer falls apart when the apocalypse does. Anna NEVER gets to be human again. Castiel loses everything over and over.#and in the end they’d just have each other. and it would suck. but they’d still be there.#also they are by far the funniest options for Jack co-parenting#anyway the way uriel talks about Lucifer will stick in my head forever.#he introduces him as ‘their brother’ before anything. before he talks about power or beauty or anything. he calls lucifer their brother.#‘he defended us’ URIEL I WISH YOU HAD LIVED TO MEET HIM FUCK I WANT TO LIVE IN THAT TIMELINE SO BAD#spn
