also in the face of people deleting their blogs, that's another reason why you guys are supposed to reblog stuff. if somebody deletes a post, your liked version will disappear, but the reblogs remain. i'm insane about preservation and archival, every single piece of art i have ever enjoyed is reblogged on my 450k+ posts main account so if the artists leave I still have their work. i even tag things (though just with the main fandom tag) so I have years and years worth of fanworks saved that the terrible general site search will never show you.
please reblog art. not just to support the artists who make it and share their efforts, but also so you have your own copy of their works saved for yourself, and the future users of this site.

please for the love of some god, reblog art. please.
for newer users from other sites especially, when someone says "dont repost" theyre not saying to not reblog it theyre saying dont download and use it elsewhere without explicit permission.
hit the 🔁 button, leave silly comments in the tags. spam the reblog function and force all your friends to see the thing you enjoy!! you cant do that with a like!!!!

Hey I know reblogs are worth more than likes, and I fully support liking and reblogging, but the phrasing on your mapleshade post is very abusive and guilt trippy!! /nm
hey first of all i wanna start this off saying i'm not trying to start a fight or drama or anything, i have conflict anxiety i don't want to start shit in the reblogs
also, i understand that posts that say things like "if you don't reblog this i can't trust you / signal boost / everyone reblog this i don't care" can be very harmful, i myself tend to avoid reblogs that say that.
however i really don't think that "don't like if you're not going to reblog" is abusive or guilt tripping, ESPECIALLY abusive? that is a very strong accusation to make and i don't appreciate the sentiment that the language i used is abusive or a guilt-tripping. my caption was not meant to be a guilt trip either. it was meant literally, and it was meant to be a little firm - i don't want likes. reblog art.
i've gotten several asks in the past about this caption that i put on my art and i will repeat myself: likes. are. worthless. on tumblr likes have no function. only reblogs matter when it comes to art and artist exposure. to me, getting a like on my art is like getting a notification that says "this person didn't care or like your art enough to reblog."
reblogs share art with others, give the artist exposure and allow for comments and thoughts in the tags, maybe gain new followers. it's so much more rewarding and motivational to receive a reblog whereas a like does nothing.
reblog art or you will stop seeing art.
if you have a replacement suggestion that isn't "reblogs > likes" which people tend to ignore, i'd be happy to hear it, but first, take a look at this.
this is a piece of my art, posted on my main blog, without my "don't like if you're not going to reblog" caption.
Tumblr media
this is a piece of my art, posted on my main blog, with my "don't like if you're not going to reblog" caption. (and even still the likes are higher than the reblogs with about 200 more likes)
Tumblr media
my caption is firm because it has to be, because tumblr has a MASSIVE problem with artists and me and all my artist friends are pretty much at the end of our patience.

I would reblog a lot more art if a lot more artists captioned their images. Like I do what I can if I particularly like the work, but there are often nuances I miss and and ignorance on the themes portrayed that would be better described by the artist. Also captioning abstract art is right out I can never get that type adequate

We all tell ourselves and each other that "notes don't matter, create for yourself".
But it's crazy how noticing/remembering the lack of notes on your content can quickly tank your desire to continue creating.
It happens to most of us, I think. Fortunately, some of us bounce back. Unfortunately, some of us don't.

As an artist all I can say is PLEASE reblog artist's works. There's nothing more painful than seeing your post get some likes and no reblogs and knowing that nobody is going to see what you worked hard on.

Welcome!
To my secret hideout, no password required, my blanket fort in a thunder storm, the inner workings (malfunctions) of my brain.
This isn't a place I've shown anybody before. So if you've found me, don't tell anyone.
Things are dark here. And sad. They're real and they've found me. Please be wary going forward, there are triggers hidden everywhere. This is your warning.
Enjoy your stay and I hope you never feel this way.
Check the tags for a quick directory of my collection ♡
(It is a work in progress, I swear I am trying to organize my life)

Womp womp!!!
GO REBLOG MY ART!!!
art, art, art, art, art, art, art, art, art, art, art, art, art
Or- to make it easier- just look up #springartz on my blog :3
And don’t forget to add a reblog reminder on your art posts! Reblogs are super important for an artist’s growth, you aren’t forcing anyone to do anything so who cares!

why are we not supposed to like if we don’t rb. some people use that to bookmark or show support
a lot of artists on tumblr have this issue of their art getting hundreds of likes and like maybe seven reblogs. likes don't do anything. reblogs support the artist and spread exposure so more people can see their art. if you want to show support or bookmark something, you can like it AND reblog it! a lot of artists have "don't like if you're not going to reblog" or "rbs appreciated" or "reblogs > likes" at the bottom of their art because nobody reblogs art and it's a problem.
likes are fine and all but to me, personally, a like is just saying "this is nice, but not good enough for me to reblog." it demotivates me! art that is reblogged gets so much more people's eyes on it. people can tell me how they feel in the tags and share it with their friends. most of my art gets maybe 10 likes on a good day, but on the piece i put "don't like if you're not going to reblog", it has over 300 reblogs, and i can see all these lovely things people say and it inspires me to keep making art! reblogs help artists on tumblr. reblog art. likes are meaningless if you don't reblog as well.

Thinking about tumblr now vs tumblr in like idk 2012? The Missing-E days? The hipster-GPOY days, and y'know what, YEAH.
Why don't people reblog art anymore?
Have sites like Twitter, Insta and TikTok caused people to expect that likes will circulate art?
