Akogare's Matilda Dress recolour/retexture

I love the dress Akogare made a year ago for TSR YeMedieval collab and have been using it on my little Celtic sims all the time, but originally it had only some 8 or 9 swatches. A big waste for such a pretty thing! Now it can have more... MUCH more.

This time it's really just a recolour. Mesh not included. You need to grab the original one from TSR: here! (And I really hope Akogare is ok with it: all their new creations disallow recolouring, but older ones, including this one, say it's fine if you don't include the mesh, so... We're good, right? It's really fine?)

Comes in 3 versions:

Solids, meaning 40 swatches in my Iron Age palette;

Tartan Welsh, meaning 17 swatches with (afaik) actual Welsh patterns

and last but not least, Tartan Mix, meaning... drum rolls please... 85 swatches with different tartan patterns found on clan.com. If you think this number is crazy, then, well, you're right - but on the other hand, the website offers... let me check... 4667 tartan patterns! So, you see. I did restrain myself. Quite a lot 😅

All the versions come in two flavours: HQ (default) or nonHQ. Download only one per package!

Just a couple of swatches for the preview this time, because I'm not crazy enough to take screenshots of all 40+17+85, so what's the point in even trying:

I might upload both of the tartan palettes for anyone who's interested and also for reference, because I have a feeling I'm going to go ahead and tartanise everything I deem worthy of my save in the nearest future 🤭

And just a general heads up, especially as I'm sending you to another post in here: all CAS items are .package files. ALL. Always. If you ever download anything for CAS and it's a script mod all of a sudden (e.g. a preset, like it happened lately...), something's wrong. Don't put it in your mods folder, best delete immediately and contact someone who's dealing with such stuff. Even me if you don't have a better idea ;).

Toppat Clan Elites Colour Palette Redesign (2024) & Colour Theory

2021 design & colour palette vs. 2024 colour palette & designs.

So, fun story, but my laptop bugged out or something yesterday, because I discovered half-way through I couldn't save ANYTHING, from any app. So these are screenshots of the final image (, that's why the size is small & a bit fuzzy).

Righty'o! I've been brushing up on my colour theory knowledge, wanted to practice, and I found this re-design sheet for the Toppat Elites I drew August last year. So I used that for my recolouring practice (and some minor redesigns).

The colour swashes on top are the old ones, below the new, and I scribbled down which colour palette type I was using for each elite.

Some guys like Macbeth & Poshly didn't really change much, just some slight alterations to the hue or saturations. Others like Ahnoldt and RHM got a complete new colour scheme.

I was watching this video, and learned you're supposed to have a dominate colour in your colour palettes. A colour which should have the most saturated and be used the least throughout the piece, and that way it will work to draw the viewer's eye.

Eg1. Carol Cross's design. The dominate colour in her palette is yellow. I changed the ribbon near her face to yellow (, as that's the focal point), and gave her a yellow headband.

Eg2. RHM. I made his scarf the most saturated colour to draw the viewer's eye. Also, in contrast to the duller blues/orange-brown in his palette, the red really 'pops' out.

Eg.3 Mr Macbeth. While his new palette is VERY close to the original, the new one works better as there is more contrast from the saturation. The old palette all has the SAME saturation (so, intensity of colours). It makes nothing stand out. His new palette uses a brighter red & yellow to create more contrast, and thus a more interesting design. However, the red isn't as saturated as the yellow (and is in a larger quantity), which allows the yellow to work as the dominate colour.

And that's my colour theory waffle for today :)

Sifix' Sansa Dress Edit & Recolour

Every time I look at @sifix' creations I cry a little bit inside, as they're all so beautiful and yet completely not suited for any of my gameplays - be it Victorian or Iron Age. Last time it happened I got determined to find at least a couple of meshes which maaaaaybe could work if I tweaked them just a bit here and there, and dyed them in era-appropriate colours... And indeed, I did find some! Here comes the first of those pieces: my edit and recolour of Sifix' gorgeous Sansa dress. Hopefully it won't be the last one :)

What has changed:

higher hemline - because floor-length dresses/skirts might look splendid trailing on stone castle floors, but are not best suited to living in simple huts and jumping through mud on a daily basis;

a simple leather belt instead of that wide, ornamental thingy the og dress had;

a bit wider sleeves, to give it a more casual, less tailored look;

some small weights adjustments (a.k.a. my almost vain attempts to get rid of a stubborn spike appearing in the neckline)

Comes in all the 40 colours of my Iron Age palette. I tried making chequered versions too, but they didn't look good; I'd have to change half of the uv map, which means I'd have to bake the 3d layer myself instead of using the one already provided, and that's probably my least favourite part of cc-making, so all in all... Just no. No plaids this time.

As I edited the mesh, it's obviously included. You don't need the og dress for it to work. But you probably already have it anyway ;)

Makes for a nice outfit for colder days, especially with proper accessories (all by @simverses).
