Some of my biggest pet peeves

Calling it the Batfam but don’t include Bruce or it’s a “hate on Bruce” fest while still tagging Batfam. Batfam includes him being family. I don’t care if they don’t like him. But don’t tag it as such!

Treating Alfred like he’s god. He’s awesome! But people need to realize that he has messed up to. He messed up with his raising of Bruce. He knew Jason and Damian left against Bruce’s wishes and they died. Didn’t stop Dick from basically kicking Tim out and didn’t help Tim

People acting like Duke and Cass either don’t exist. Or are the favourite well behaved kids. Lmao they are rebels who cause just as much chaos

Calling Dick Damian’s dad. I get why. But I just. No. I don’t like it. That’s my personal thing. Not up for debate.

Ignoring everything bad Talia has done. I know she’s been retconned. I know everything about that. But. Still. Also not up for debate.

Acting like Tim is this coffee addicted guy who never sleeps. When in reality he’s not.

Having Jason hate Bruce

The whole “Bruce should have killed Joker” I believe I’ve posted about that before but it’s enough for its own post. If you think Bruce should kill the joker. You don’t understand his character well enough. There are many alt universes where he does and it never ends well. And he wanted to! He tried. Superman thankfully stopped him

Huh, just saw that not everyone takes "Captain Sodom and Captain Gomorrah. He's Gomorrah," as a gay joke. Not adding this to the post going around because I don't want to come across as argumentative or rude, but seeing it does compel me to overexplain why I think it's unambiguously a gay joke lol.

"Captain Sodom and Captain Gomorrah," would be a generic joke about debauchery imo. "He's Gomorrah," is what makes it a joke about gay sex specifically, by pointedly referencing sodomy. Because while technically sodomy refers to a lot of things, based on my own experience and 20th century media consumption I feel like I can pretty confidentally say that in public consciousness, at least in US media, it's functionally a synonym for gay anal.

Like I'm no expert here so maybe I'm wrong and biased in my media consumption and experiences, but if I saw someone on TV using the word sodomy to refer to het sex acts without it being in the context of like, an informative conversation about how sodomy doesn't just refer to gay sex, or like, in the context of a deep south bible thumper type railing against all non-piv sex in antiquated terms, I would be very surprised. I'd at least expect a woman to be specified if it's meant to be het pia, and idt I've ever seen it used as a synonym for blowjobs except in real life 'fun fact' discussions lol. (Also fun fact, cunnilingus is not legally sodomy.)

"He's Gomorrah," also just doesn't function as a joke if it's just referring to general heterosexual debauchery, the whole point of that line is to make the reference to sodomy in particular explicit, in differentiation from Trapper. And in this context Hawkeye isn't calling himself an enjoyer of receiving blowjobs or fucking women in the ass in comparison to Trapper who only has good christian piv sex, he's differentiating himself from Trapper in terms of his effeminacy, something he does often in comedic contexts.

And my impression is that the point of the gay sex jokes in general isn't "Hawkeye is bi representation" or "getting gay references past the censors sneakily," it's "Hawkeye making jokes about being unmasculine which includes making jokes about getting fucked in the ass in an exaggeration of his gender expression, which is not actually all that out there in the 70s counter-culture context."

The last Golden Age superhero created by MLJ (now known as Archie Comics), Red Rube was that company's answer to Fawcett Comic's Captain Marvel.

Or, to be more precise: MLJ's blatant rip-off of Captain Marvel.

Both heroes were young orphans, Billy Watson and Reuben Reubens, who were granted powers from different entities after shouting magic words. For Billy it was "Shazam!", after which he was struck by magic lightning and transformed into Captain Marvel. Reuben, on the other hand, shouted "Hey, Rube!" and was transformed by a magic tornado into Red Rube. And both Billy and Reuben got jobs as young reporters.

The biggest difference between the characters, however, was their popularity. Cap outlasted the majority of other comic book superheroes, and only stopped being published in 1953 because of Fawcett's legal troubles. Red Rube didn't even last a year.

Red Rube was a rare breed of hero for MLJ, as he actually had superpowers; the majority of their characters were just masked crimefighters. He was created at the time when MLJ was phasing out its costumed heroes and replacing them with more comedic features, including a certain teen-aged Archie Andrews. Rube reflected this trend: he did not take himself - or his adventures - seriously, and they were written with a comedic bent.

MLJ/Archie Comics revived and revised most of their superhero characters several times over the next several decades, but Red Rube, and another hero named Mr. Satan, were not among them. Because of that, both of those characters are now in the public domain.
