Absolute crack.

Above all, Harry was an explorer. He loved to get lost in the labyrinth he called home, from the orchards to the forest to long-forgotten, dusty passageways and secret rooms. Indeed, he derived great pleasure from being so far into the unknown that he could no longer hear or see signs of civilization save those long passed. In his exploring he discovered relics of different times: a small, unbreakable glass-blown dragonfly; the preserved canine of a werewolf; a rune-inscribed well, dry as the bones that lay around it; a chunk of platinum from a time when such was still used as currency… yes, Harry was an explorer, a discoverer, and a collector, because what else was he to do without the company of others?

You see, Harry could not break past the boundaries of his home, nor could any other being. In fact, Harry had never met another living thing for all of his life. As far as he could remember, from the time when he was a youngling, all of his needs were attended to by magic itself. His nappies cleaned themselves, his meals prepared themselves, and, when he wished to learn, magic whispered and taught him. As a child it was a frequent voice, his nurturing companion, but as he grew it strayed to a silent presence and chalky hints against a blackboard; a floating book, perhaps, if he grew desperate in his desolation.

Still, Harry was content. After all he had never interacted with another living thing, and while conversing with someone might prove interesting it wasn’t as though he was ever particularly bored. He had an endless library, and the vast grounds and halls of his home to explore.

And so he looked, he learned, and he grew, by stumbling, by reading, by watching the meager hints magic let him see.

Of course Harry was far from normal, but he knew little of normalcy and so cared very little for it. He was used to an endless cycle of exploring, of cooking, of reading, cleaning, drawing, writing, speaking

Until one day, his cycle was broken.

“Who are you then?”

Harry startled so badly he dropped his book, wincing when it’s spine cracked against the hardwood floor. It was an older volume, worn by time, and Harry was always particularly careful when handling bits of history. But, well…

Harry stared at the thing across from him, astounded. It was taller than him, and looked much the same, which probably meant it was a human. That was a bit of a shame, as Harry had always imagined he would meet a creature, first: a deviously charming Fae, perhaps, or a quick and clever Naga. Still, he wasn’t too let down. He hadn’t imagined he would ever meet another living creature, so to meet one so soon was a delight!

Wait.

What had the - human! - asked?

“Oh, er, hello there... human. I’m called Harry.”

The man's eyes narrowed. He didn’t seem to know quite how to respond to that, but that was okay. Harry had lots of questions - he could just answer those.

“How ever did you end up here, though? In my home?”

Perhaps he should have been offended - wasn’t that called trespassing? - but Harry was far too fascinated for that.

“Your home,” the man hummed, not answering even as his eyes lingered on Harry, on his bare feet and long hair and wide, fascinated green gaze. Maybe he didn’t know that was rude? At least, Harry thought so - then again, magic ignored his questions often enough… though magic was honestly a bit of a bully, no matter how sweet and nurturing it could be.

“Naturally,” Harry nodded. “I don’t think you’re supposed to go around barefooted in other people’s libraries, though I might be wrong on that. I’ve never exactly been.”

The human frowned at him. “No, that’s right. You’ve never - Harry.”

Harry blinked at the abrupt use of his name. “I’ve never… Harry?"

Was that a question?

“Your name. What’s your surname?”

Harry frowned, tapping his chin thoughtfully. “Not sure. Magic’s probably told me before...”

“Magic’s told you?”

“Well, yes,” Harry nodded, unsure why the other sounded so surprised. This wasn’t at all what he had imagined. Then again, he hadn’t really imagined much of anything. “What’s your name?”

For a moment the man's face looked odd, almost conflicted, and then he said, “Tom.”

“Tom,” Harry pronounced slowly, really wrapping his mouth around it. “Okay, Tom. How did you get here?”

“That’s… a long story.”

Harry lit up. “That’s all right - I love stories!”

They sat in that library for several hours, and in that time Harry learned of the Dark Lord Voldemort.

Of how he subjugated magical creatures, witches, and wizards. Of how he slaughtered his own kind as indiscriminately as muggles, and in his fool heartedness, exposed wizards to muggles.

Tom spoke of a war, terrible and long. He spoke of a dying planet, and of Voldemort’s undignified end at the hands of the very muggles he thought so worthless.

Then, he spoke of a second chance.

Voldemort was, by all accounts, a villain. And Harry—well, he had always liked villains the best.

“You’re in your redemption arc!” Harry enthused. “If you do things right I bet you can become an antihero.”

Danny has a hoverboard, one he and his parents built for family time simply because he said he wanted one of them because he thought they were cool.

The Fentons, also, own a takeout business.

Now you see, the Fentons pulled away from being scientists after Danny revealed himself as Phantom, so they obviously had to do something to secure their new source of income that would allow them to spend more time with their kids.

So they decided to open a restaurant.

Now, his parents could cook, yes. But they had a habit of injecting so much ectoplasm into their food that it came to life and didn't see it as a problem, Jazz and Danny, however, saw it as a problem. Except, they didn't really know how to cook either.

So who did they turn to with, a rather large, amount of hesitance?

Vlad.

Sure yea, he was chilling out and on his 'redemption arc' or whatever but still. Did they want to get him involved? No. Did they have any other options? Also, no.

Right decision in fact, because Vlad was so offended by their lack of lab-safety that he somehow managed to strongarm them into doing something Jazz and Danny couldn't for years in a few months. He also, decided to help them out with the funding of their restaurant and, after finding their food not up to his taste (Which is weird since he would take every opportunity he could've to compliment Danny's mom. So maybe he is actually doing that redemption thing.) also took over teaching them how to cook properly.

So yes, Danny has a hoverboard, his family owns a takeout business, and Danny has decided to help out said business via hoverboard. It was either that or Jack doing it so, you know.

Anyways, for whatever reason, they get an offer all the way over in Gotham of all places. Danny, never one to back down from a challenge, decided to take it anyway and leave Amity park in Jack's (worrying yet capable) hands.

He rides all the way over to Gotham, thankful for his parents' invention to keep the food fresh and hot, while doing tricks and entertaining himself on the way over.

All to drop said takeout in the hands of some dude in a red helmet who wants to pay him over credit. Which, uh no dude? They clearly stated that they only accept cash!

Danny doesn't care if it was a joke, and he didn't expect him to actually come here!

I am also kinda tired of literally every F/GO event these days causing discourse of the “the plot didn’t go where I wanted it to” variety, especially when it completely jumps the gun like with how everybody was talking about the Requiem event. I was genuinely so close to just screaming at everyone on here “You all know Marie Alter exists!!!!!! You all should remember that she exists!!!!! You’ve all long been spoiled on one of the big twists of the event because you were all there when JP ran it back in 2020!!!!! You should be able to use your brains to reverse-engineer the plot from there and realize there’s gotta be something up with the goddamn werewolf game!!!!!!!!” and only held my tongue to avoid spoiling people on literal day 1. I absolutely genuinely beg of you all, for the love of god please give the game a chance and try to actually hear the story out before complaining, you have to meet the game where it’s at if you want to give the good criticism. Even if you still come out disagreeing and disliking whatever the game’s story is doing that day, it’ll allow you to properly argue your complaints with nuance and maybe even offer solutions that aren’t “The story should do what I want it to because I say so”.

How to Write Supporting Characters

Here are some tips when it comes to writing the side characters of your novel. Use a few, none, or merge a couple!

1) Have your side character bring a unique perspective to your story. Think of a side character who challenges the protagonist’s morals or brings a different view to the table.

2) Give them growth / a character arc. This doesn’t have to be as well-rounded or intricate as your main cast, but even the side characters should grow in some way during the story (this could be positive or negative) unless you plan for them to be static characters.

3) Know their backstory. Even if it’s the bare minimum, come up with the reasons why they are the way they are. What significant moment(s) in their life led them to the where they are in the story? How does it impact the way they act?

4) Subplots. Side characters and subplots go hand in hand. While your main protagonist is dealing with the main plot, it can be nice to have side characters intertwining with subplots. Of course, these plots can overlap.

5) Give them a goal. Just like your protagonist, your side characters will become more complex if given a motive or agenda. Make sure you treat them like real people who have desires. What propels them forward? What is their deepest desire? What will they do if they cannot have it? Do you give it to them or not?

6) Let them make an impact. Have their actions directly or indirectly affect the main plot and your protagonist. If the side character means something to the protagonist, they will mean something to the reader. Perhaps the side character gives your protagonist a shoulder to cry on, or a weapon that impacts the final battle.

7) Give them a theme. What lessons will this side character teach your protagonist (and thus the reader)? Take Redemption as an example: does this side character cause trouble for the protagonist the whole story, only to have a change of heart in the end?

8) Give them at least one unique quality. Something to remember them by, something that makes them easily distinguishable. A lavish accent, a brutal scar, a bad habit, an obsession with something. The list goes on and on.

9) Have something they do affect the ending. No matter how small of an impact they have on the ending, consider giving them a part of it. Did they say something to the protagonist that gave them courage in the end? Did they steal something that would’ve made the ending easier? Did they alert the bad guys of the protagonist’s incoming?

10) Give them their own special setting. We all have places we prefer hanging out: a coffee shop, a street corner, the roof of a school, the mall. Anchor some of your side characters to a specific setting, that way it helps with your worldbuilding as well. Next time your main characters pass by that specific location, the readers might think of that side character.

Bonus Tip) Allow some side characters to be forgettable. Sometimes it’s okay for a character to exist for one purpose and then never be seen again. Don’t stress yourself out trying to make all your characters serve a higher purpose, because some people only exist in our lives for a short period of time. That’s just life.

...I know people in this day and age think any collaborative effort can fix things, often despite reality (ex. the MULTIPLE tumblr blackout protests over the last like 10 years across different owners of tumblr that didn’t change shit),

but I think going out of your way to buy things from tumblr en masse as a “well then they’ll be profitable and won’t have to change things to resemble profitable sites!” as if the CEO/higher ups are personally going to see this and not AT MOST just go “oh we made money, sick, Anyway.” is just. the most naive and frankly 5-year-old level of problem solving unrealistic idea if you think about it for more than 5 seconds. People are just so blinded by naive optimism it’s painful.

Staff isn’t going to see your purchases and go on a full redemption arc and restore porn in spite of payment systems’ massive stigma against it or Apple’s restrictions and never ever try to mimic Twitter or TikTok again, or whatever the fuck you’re expecting, they’ll keep focusing on shit tweaks that resemble other sites because those are what keep investors who think they know tech and user wants hooked and they think new people from other sites will come over for that instead of the fact these people are typically escaping those kinds of features.

Staff isn’t your friend, their vying for support like they’re your buddy who is hitting hard times and has been here holding your hand all these years is deliberate corporate marketing, they’re an arm of a corporation that spits in the face of LGBTQ+ people and especially black people for daring to post about themselves while touting themselves as The Queer Site! A diverse site! Look at this AMA we’re doing with someone about Black History Month! and you’re doing nobody a service when you’re unintentionally rewarding a service for getting worse because they will not know nor care about your motives, they just care that they got money and will continue making it worse regardless of you. They’re a corporation, not a small business ran by 10 people who are trying their best. People throwing money at Staff already encourages them, let alone when you buy into the weird parasocial shit they try with us which will continue as they see success with that method.

Like the mere idea of everyone buying the crabs to gift to make the site profitable is just unrealistic (especially in this economy with such terrible inflation and in NA there are issues with the weather and fires, on a site that mostly consists of groups of people who are typically low income or unable to work???), it feels very much like the gofundme pages people set up to raise money for celebrities who have debts who will be fine regardless and definitely don’t need your help. Corporations and CEOs are not your friends, they never will be. They do not care about you and they’re not some poor uwu victim of circumstance.

TL;DR half-assed blackouts aimed at companies that don’t care (that I have seen over and over) and “cr*b day” type efforts are incredibly dumb and will change nothing, and they will not change anything, just encourage them since they see they’re making money during their current marketing schemes, if they notice at all. You pitying them like they’re a poor innocent person is exactly what the corporation wants.

If you want to make a difference give that money to an artist or lgbtq+ people who basically get flagged as mature for Existing, or people who get their posts flagged for criticizing the site, or something, someone who gets screwed over by this site on the regular. It will do far more good than that whackadoo type pipe dream and sit down and think for a second, please.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Laws of Attraction (Sat iQIYI) 7 of 8 - Plot reveals galore + all the penultimate tension we could want. (How many different kinds of smiles does Film have in his arsenal?) OMG I LOVE the unhinged idiot bloody tattooed ex bf - intro music and all. He is my precious psycho-bunny-snookums. Also Tinn, baby-boy, communicating about your honest feelings in a BL? What madness is this? I sense doom incoming. Smart Chan, always tell him he’s better in bed than your ex. The sides getting caught! Noooooo. I mean we knew it would happen but still noooooooo!

I Feel You Linger in the Air (Sat YT) ep 2 of 12 - I like the surreal slip-stream dream-sequence openings. Is it a cerebral examination of temporal paradox or just designed to creep us out? The pace has picked up a bit and I'm delighted that external threat, stressors, and conflict are driving this plot. Refreshing. I love historicals - every touch and action can have such lingering significance, it’s very elegant. Thai BLs can often feel clumsy but not this one. I’m really enjoying it.

Dangerous Romance (Fri YT) ep 2 of 12 - Sailom is great. I love a smartass who’s actually really smart, reminds me of Bai Luo Yin in Addicted. (The real Addicted.) Never a bad thing. Kang is nasty bit of business, I look forward to his redemption arc. I love his grandma. (BL is giving good grandma right now.) Nicely executed narrative twist into sympathy too: rich kid sees how rough life really is. The complexity of character depth needed for this script makes me so happy it's Perth & Chimon, they both have such expressive nuanced faces.

I do keep wanting to rewatch LBC tho.

Only Friends (Sat YT) ep 3 of 10 - It remains a blast. Boston is king of red flags, cutting down Ray because he is the easiest punching bag? Going after his friend's bf just to prove he can? No thank you. I know Ray is lovely when he’s soft but danger zone, Sand. Be careful upon entering a minefield, every little step forward may cause an explosion. I don’t think being master of snark is gonna help you avoid getting blown up.

Sand is the one I feel the worst for - bi guy strays into cesspit of gay toxicity. He ain’t gonna make it out alive.

Hidden Agenda (Sun GMMTV YouTube) ep 7 of 10 - The boyfriends date ep! Zo’s past explains a lot about his behavior. Flirty Zo is v dangerous to all our hearts. Nice kiss. Poor Joke. Meanwhile, the side couple gave good kiss too! However, why is Title playing the bad guy again? Did GMMTV bring him in just to be resident jerk face in all their BL? Makes me sad.

Be Mine Super Star (Mon Viki) ep 8 of 12 - This should be a 8 or 10 ep show, 12 is too many. I think I just don’t like the lead couple's character dynamic and personalities. (No shade on JaFirst.) Side couple went startlingly high heat allasudden. And while their sex scene was good, I wish Daddy and the Hot Doc were being given a lot more script, screen time, and character dev. Sigh. I guess I just wish they were the mains and the others were the sides.

Can't have everything, I suppose.

Wedding Plan (Wed YT & iQIYI) ep 6 of 7 - Nuea is a saint and next week everything comes to a head (that didn’t already get head this episode). Trash watch here!

Love in Translation (Sat iQIYI) ep 2 of 10 - The side couple is everything. They are so cute and my favorite trope. Plus hugs with neck kisses! I love big brother using his adorable boyfriend to try and help his annoying little brother’s business. It’s just perfect. Unfortunately, that annoying little brother, is too fucking annoying. I remain largely unable to watch the main story arc.

My Universe (Sun iQIYI) 1 of 24 eps - Sampler pack BL, 12 pairs, each pair gets 2 eps, so this show will run all the way into 2024.

First installment is Casanova Begins. Dead boy wakes up in his enemy’s body, 2 years after his own death. Has to make things right with the boyfriend who thinks he was abandoned. Everyone has secrets. No one can be trusted. And the dead kid can never tell anyone who he really is. It’s … different? Unique take on the My Ghost Boyfriend trope.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Jun & Jun (Korea Thur Viki) ep 6 of 8 - Random moment of TutorYim. Hi cuties. Simon is my favorite, I love him and his flirty irreverent ways.

Who does he actually like?

Or is he just flirting with everyone?

Can he have a crush on anyone but himself?

He’s a house cat among the pigeons. Clearly wouldn't know what to do with the bird if he managed to catch it. Or would he?

The 4 boys dodging around each other and re-shuffling is so funny. I can’t tell you how delighted this show makes me. I do feel sorry for Lee Jun, he’s just the toy everyone wants to play with. I understand his frustration, do any of them really want him or is it all because the others are interested? Kiss! Yay! Good kiss! Even more yay!

Stay By My Side (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 9 of 10 - Poor baby doesn’t think he’s good enough and is holding JC back. They are THE CUTEST BOYFRIENDS. It hurts. The sappy.

Kisseki: Dear to Me (Taiwan Tues Viki & iQIYI) eps 1-2 of 13(?) - From screenwriter Lin Pei Yu (We Best Love, H3: Trapped) formerly known as Miracle, features a student doctor forced to take care of a gangster. I love the premise and like the writer. This one could be sad. Never forget Taiwan will go there.

Shall we get tucked in?

Gay boy turf wars! Main couple is cute. Sunshine gangster (turns out to be a sweetie who cooks) meets broken brilliant tsundere student who wants to be a doctor. Side couple is the leader of the gang and his rabid Pet. Also, all praise the guest couple de jour (baddies). Nice to see you 2... again. All actors are clearly having a blast with this script.

Triggers for knife play, child abuse, lingering trauma.

Love Class Season 2 (Korea Fri Viki) eps 5-6 of 10 - Aw guest couple from Love Class original, that is very sweet. The tutor and returning student, aka couple 3, are the best. So funny. But the whole thing remains engaging in a messy way.

Why R U? (Korea Wed iQIYI) eps 1-2 of 8 - Oh, it’s very odd. Certainly a lot more comprehensible if you've already watched the Thai version. As with that version, I still dislike the SaifahZon couple and love the FighterTutor couple. And once again I hate the weird IRL shipping sister. HATE HER. I’m not mad at the "Man who Fell into the World of BL" overtones but I wish they went at it more intentionally. (They’re not using NPC the way I would, are they? Cause that’s hella cruel.)
