hi hazel!! i’m watching the music video again and i wanted to ask you if you had any thoughts about the part of the music video where it’s like a close up of the guys faces, with hands placing their hair/adjusting their accessories? i can’t quite figure it out so i thought i’d ask! loved the post you put together about some of meaning behind the music video btw:)

hi em!!!! i do have a possible thought on that, although i feel like it's not as clear cut as the rest of the mv was to me. i think that part could have to do with putting on a brave face/mask and continuing as normal. the song to me feels very defiant; despite the lyrics being self-pitying ("all these broken hearts but mine's the one bleeding," and "i know you wish me well/ and that's what makes me want to die" for example), the tone of the song doesn't come across as that at all to me. the narrator has made his bed and he's going to lie in it, but pride isn't going to let him wallow or ask for forgiveness. he's not groveling or trying to be better. although he now knows that "i did not need your help" was a lie, the core of the song is still that he's now alone and it seems like it's going to stay that way, he's not appealing for help now. so my thought with people adjusting their hair/accessories is that they're trying to save face. yeah they may be lonely and upset, but on the outside they're going to be put together and ready for a close up. no one is going to know how much they messed up, they're not going to let anyone say "told you so, you didn't know what's best for yourself and got yourself into a mess" they're just going to continue showing everyone that they're living their best life (even if that's a lie). it kind of mirrors the instrumental vs the lyrics in that way, since the lyrics are sad and self-pitying but the instrumental is an absolute banger that you yell when you need to grit your teeth and move forward, not when you need a cathartic cry

#yeah the song to me feels like a guy who's monologing to himself but still won't swallow his pride #he's still not asking for help or for forgiveness #despite the lyrics being sad #it's the kind of song that you yell when you're mad not when you're sad yknow #ask #redrattlers #redrattlers em #yeah that part of the mv doesn't fit as nicely as the other parts do lol #but those are my thoughts #idk i just don't feel like the narrator of the song is going to let people see him have a breakdown #especially when he knows it's all because of his own actions #it just doesn't feel like that kind of song to me #thank you for asking em <3 <3 <3 love to have you in the inbox #5sos #5sos5

Favorite track on 5sos5: that would be Bad Omens!!!! idk, I just really like that one! the build! the anthemic quality! the lyrics, like "I'm still making sense of having nothing left to save" and the repetition of "that's what you do when you love somebody" at the end!!!! wonderful! brilliant! amazing!

Favorite line you've written recently: okay i'm going to give you two. the first is from a cobra kai wip because i don't like anything i've written for my nano project and i otherwise haven't written in a 5sos wip for a while. the second is from the prompt that i posted yesterday because i feel bad not giving you a 5sos one lol

i just think the first one is fun, and the second one is a nice little detail about their relationship that i feel showcases a tiny piece of love

Favorite meal: i really like my mom's baked mac and cheese, and apples always feels like they go with mac and cheese for some reason to me, and i've been dipping the slices in caramel sauce a lot lately, so mac and cheese with apples and caramel i think!
