Mixing It Up - Troublemaker! Min Yoongi X Reader - Part 7
I actually finished this yesterday but felt like I should write more so you all ended up with an extra long part lol. That school trip definitely gave me plenty of time to write at night. This is kind of a filler I guess because MC needed to make progress otherwise what’s the point in the plot? Actually, it would be interesting to end this story with MC still investigating... I bet you all would be super annoyed at me for that.
Anyway, much love for you guys as always and I hope you enjoy reading this part!

To say you were shocked would be the understatement of the year. You couldn’t quite give a name to the feeling you were currently experiencing. Mi-Rae had purposely kept the fact that she had been present the morning of the fire a secret. Honestly, it gave you enough reason to suspect her as the culprit though you didn’t want to.
Assembly eventually came to an end and the time had come to question Mi-Rae over the incident. You had been dreading this moment since the second she stepped on stage but there was nothing you could do about it now.
She was sitting at her desk, skimming through her notes when you decided to approach her. Once she noticed your presence, she looked up and smiled as if nothing was wrong.
“Ah, Y/N. How are you?”
You could tell that she was making small talk to avoid discussion about her personal life. You were not going to let her off.
“I’m good. Why didn’t you tell me your father was your schools principal?”
She shrugged her shoulders before lightly sighing.
“I didn’t want you to treat me differently. You’d be surprised at the change of attitudes I’ve received.”
You nodded, trying to show your understanding towards her actions.
“Oh. But you know, your nam-“
You class teacher entered the room at that moment, ushering you all to your seats to which you had no choice but to comply.
Questioning would have to wait until your break.
-
Unfortunately, Mi-Rae disappeared as soon as the lesson ended. However, you were intent on continuing your discussion so you dedicated your break to looking for her.
It didn’t take long for you to find her, lurking behind the school building. What surprised you was the cigarette she held between her fingers. She didn’t notice your presence until you coughed due to the smoke surrounding the area. When she caught sight of you, she quickly dropped her cigarette and attempted to put it out before you noticed. It was already too late, however.
“I- uh... didn’t know you smoked...”
She fanned the smoke away from the both of you though it didn’t do much.
“I don’t. I was just holding it for my friend, Yura.”
Yura was a girl that happened to be in Yoongi’s class. You were not sure how you knew this or why it was, apparently, relevant.
“Okay... I kind of got cut off earlier. I’m just going to get straight to it. You were there the morning of the fire right?”
She looked stunned that you had come to know such information but soon regained her composure.
“Yeah, I was running errands for the school council. What of it?”
“Well, I-“ You stopped yourself from mentioning your visit to the fire station. Maybe now wasn’t the time? Whatever it was, you felt that you shouldn’t reveal your information so easily.
“Nothing. Just asking.” She didn’t seem entirely convinced but remained quiet either way.
You’d bring it up at a later time.
You instead opted to looking for Yura. Every bit of information mattered at this point.
When you found said girl, it was lunch break and she happened to be standing right in front of you in the lunch line. Tapping her on the shoulder, she quickly turned around, a look of slight surprise spreading cross her features.
“Ah, you’re... Yoongi’s girlfriend?”
You were not even shocked at this question. With all the rumours and especially the scene you had both caused just the week before, it was safe to say a majority of the school assumed you were both dating.
Not that that was a bad thing...
Shaking your head, you dismissed her question.
“I’m Y/N. You’re Yura right? Mi-Rae’s friend?”
Her eyes widened for a split second before she nodded her head once.
“Er, Mi-Rae told me to tell you that she would return your lighter tomorrow...”
A little white lie never hurt anyone. Her eyebrows dipped and she frowned in complete and utter confusion.
“But... I don’t smoke. Mi-Rae does.”
This day was just full of surprises, wasn’t it?
“Eh? But then why did she...” You trailed off and Yura shrugged at you, just as confused and out of the loop as you were. She then glanced around before grabbing your arm and pulling you out of line.
“Come with me. Quickly.”
She had taken you to the front yard where only a few students lingered.
“Why are we here?”
The look she gave you told you she was deadly serious about her next words.
“Because you’d be surprised at who’s listening in on our conversation.”
That certainly gave you shivers.
“Not to be rude or anything but Mi-Rae is really changing for the bad. Do you have any idea why?”
Again, her eyebrows furrowed and she placed her hands on her hips.
“Are we talking about the same Mi-Rae? How can you say she’s changed when she’s still exactly the same?”
You didn’t understand what she was getting at.
“What do you mean by that?”
“I thought Mi-Rae was acting strange around you. But you see, strange Mi-Rae is normal to you. For as long as I’ve known her she’s smoked, gotten into all sorts of trouble and taken advantage over the fact that her father is principal of the school. She gets away with almost anything.”
You had completely misjudged Mi-Rae.
“Wait, so she’s really like that?”
She immediately nodded.
“Yeah! She’s really manipulative. She can get her father to do whatever she wants him to do and get whoever she wants into trouble. Like Yoongi...”
“Yoongi?”
She shifted her eyes from side to side before lowering her voice.
“You don’t really think Yoongi caused the fire, do you?”
You blinked twice. Does that mean people willingly kept their mouths shut about Yoongi’s innocence because of Mi-Rae?
“No but then... Mi-Rae done it?”
She straightened up before taking a few steps back.
“I actually don’t know the answer to that one. Maybe, maybe not. There were a lot more people in school at the time than you think.”
With that being said, Yura made her exit.
-
“I thought you said you didn’t smoke?”
Your arms were crossed and you had an expectant look resting on your face. Mi-Rae looked up from her desk, having been packing up. You approached her as the final lesson had ended, waiting for everyone to exit the class. Annoyance flashed across her face before she looked back down at her bag.
“Yeah, I did say that. I also said I was holding it for Yura, in case you weren’t listening.”
The sarcastic tone she was using aggravated you and you had to clench your fists in order to prevent yourself from doing something you were sure to regret.
“Well, Mi-Rae, Yura said it’s yours.” You didn’t want to mention anything else Yura had said. She didn’t deserve the backlash that was sure to come her way if Mi-Rae discovered what she had said.
“Oh? And you believed her over your own friend?”
She said this in a way that suggested you committed a crime, as if it was impossible for her to lie.
“I don’t know what to believe anymore. For example, your alibi for that morning. You were running errands? So why were you in the classroom where the fire originated from? Surely, your errands didn’t require you to go in there?”
At this point, you were just blindly throwing questions at her hoping you could catch her out for something. If you were being honest, you didn’t sound logical to your own ears. It was entirely possible she had errands to run in said classroom.
“I wasn’t in the classroom.”
Her eyebrows furrowed in a way that simply dares you to challenge her. Little did she know that you were going to do just that.
“But your name tag was found in there.”
Not entirely true but you felt that she needed a little push to reveal the information you needed.
“Oh... oh yeah. I ran in when I saw smoke from the fire. When I got there the fire had already spread a lot. A fireman had to come and find me since the smoke was so heavy.”
There was your opportunity. You refrained from smirking, not wanting to alert Mi-Rae to your information.
“But that’s impossible since the fireman stated no one was present in the building when they got there.”
Her expression did not shift. She zipped her bag up and stood from her seat, all the while staring you down.
“What are you trying to prove, Y/N? That your little boyfriend is innocent? Well, I hate to rain on your parade but he’s not.”
Barging past you, she disappeared out of the door, leaving you alone in the room.
“It seems like you aren’t either.”
-
Lunch arrived faster than expected the next day and you sat among the boys and Suhyun, discussing the situation.
“It’s been confirmed that the fireworks are the cause of the fire you know.”
You nodded, having heard the news already.
“If Mi-Rae done it, how are you going to prove it? Yoongi evidently owned the fireworks, they’re just going to accuse him.”
That was a great question. How were your going to prove Yoongi’s innocence? You already knew that outright accusing Mi-Rae would somehow get you into a lot of trouble.
“What if you somehow get the police to re-watch the security tapes from that day? I’m pretty sure the principal may have somehow manipulated it to only show Yoongi that day.”
Seokjin piped up from across you, mouth full of food.
“That’s actually not a bad idea!” Hoseok clapped his hands together, grinning from ear to ear. Seokjin paused in his chewing to glare at Hoseok.
“How can I do that? I’m pretty sure they won’t listen to a teenager.”
The table went silent for a few moments, each person trying to construct a plan. That is until Jungkook decided to contribute his idea.
“I don’t know about you guys but I’m sure Mi-Rae was behind Y/N’s class’ vandalism incident. If she was and you can somehow find evidence then maybe you can discreetly hint to her involvement in the fire.”
Although Jungkook’s plan was somewhat patchy, you had a feeling it could somehow work. If you proved Mi-Rae to be a difficult and rebellious student, the police could give your word more of a thought and investigate further. If she was under a watchful eye for the vandalism, they would be more willing to investigate her for the fire.
“You know, that just might work. It’s amazing how far you think ahead.” Jungkook beamed, satisfied that you had complimented him.
Time to begin the investigation of your incident.
-
It didn’t take long for you to find clues to the culprit. Personally, you believe your prime suspect should be Mi-Rae. With what you had discovered about her it wouldn’t surprise you if she was really behind it.
You decided to start off with finding out who was present early that morning. Simply asking around helped you create a list of people that were seen that morning. You had already known Yoongi was present and only several other names as come up. Unsurprisingly, Mi-Rae’s was one of them. You had happened to ask your principal who he saw that morning and he mentioned that Mi-Rae had come in exceptionally early to run errands for her father.
“Seems like she’s always running errands when things happen...”
“What is it that you’re implying? Is there something I should know?” The principal leaned forward, a look of expectance spreading across his face.
“Not really... did you ever check the security tapes in the morning?”
Your question seemed ridiculous but you needed every bit of information you could get.
“Actually no. Mr. Hwan volunteered to do so. He stated that he only saw you enter just before you were accused of vandalism. He also said Min Yoongi was present and you attempted to go after him.”
You wanted to slap him upside the head. Why would he leave security tapes of his own school in the hands of another?
“Can we re-watch the tapes?”
He seemed somewhat surprised at your suggestion.
“Of course but it will have to wait until tomorrow. There’s an important meeting after school today.”
You wrapped up your talk with the principal and left his office, heading to your class.
The last two lessons of the day gave you plenty of time to attempt to make links between different clues. When your final lesson ended, you were the last person to pack up resulting in you being alone in the room. As you stood up to leave, Mi-Rae’s desk caught your eye. Beside it, one of her pens lay on the floor.
Walking towards the desk, you picked up the pen, immediately recognizing it as the marker she had bought the day you saw her at the stationary shop.
That’s when it clicked for you.
Looking at you with doubtful eyes, he glanced down at the bin beside him, his eyes widening. Instead of giving you an answer, he stuck his hand in the bin and pulled out two black markers.
How did you not notice before?
“Hey, Mi-Rae. Running low too?” You gestured to the pack of markers the cashier was placing into a plastic bag along with notebooks and sticky notes.
It was the same marker.
You felt stupid for not making the connection earlier, although if you had you were sure you would have dismissed it as a coincidence. After all, you didn’t know about Mi-Rae’s true nature until very recently.
You definitely knew what to expect from the tapes tomorrow.
-
Instead of heading straight home, you decided to pass through Yoongi’s house. You hadn’t seen him in what seemed like forever and felt that you should share what you had discovered with him.
Buzzing his door, you waited patiently at the front doors for an answer.
“I swear to god if it’s you Taehyung, I’m going to break your fingers. I don’t want any of your homemade rice cakes, they taste like shit.”
Yoongi was as annoyed as ever and you had to stifle your laughter though it proved useless in the end.
“Y/N? I know that pathetic laugh is coming from you.”
Before you could throw an insult back, the door buzzed, alerting you that he had let you in. Making your way up to his apartment, you found the front door already open for you.
“I’m not going to deny that I missed your fiery attitude. I thought that after we shared that intimate moment you’d be visiting everyday but if anything you avoided me.”
Rolling your eyes at his attempt at sounding hurt, you followed his voice and arrived at what seemed to be his bedroom. He was laying on his side on a double bed, lifting his head with one arm and dressed in yet another tracksuit.
“There’s my favourite detective. Come in and make yourself comfortable.”
“Make myself comfortable in your room? Yeah, that’s a no no.”
A sly smirk grew on his lips and you immediately had an idea of what was to come out of his mouth next.
“Why not? What’s mine is yours now.”
Placing a hand on your hip, you raised an eyebrow at his comment.
“Wow. You really think we’re married or something just because we kissed once.”
“Twice actually.” As he said this, he lifted two fingers and wiggled them to exaggerate his point.
“Okay, twice. Anyway, Mi-Rae was behind the vandalism incident.” He switched his position to laying on his back and an amused huff escaped him.
“You finally figured out that much? You’re much slower than I originally thought.”
Your eyes widened and jaw dropped at his words.
“If you knew why didn’t you tell me!?”
He shrugged his shoulders before replying.
“I just thought you should figure it out by yourself. Plus, I couldn’t really tell you if I wanted to. I know much more than you think.”
“Like how it was Mi-Rae who started the fire?” That seemed to catch him off guard and he shot up off his bed, a genuinely surprised look on his face.
“How do you know that?”
“After my visit to the fire station, things just started to click. That and Mi-Rae let slip some information when I questioned her.”
His face remained stoic before a grin broke out. Honestly, it was probably one of the most beautiful things you had ever seen. Yoongi showing an emotion other than annoyance, impassiveness and smugness was a rarity.
“You just keep on surprising me. No wonder you’re all I can think about.”
Heat spread on your face and judging by the way Yoongi’s grin grew, he noticed your reaction.
“You’re so cliché it hurts.”
“In other words, you feel the same.”
You didn’t have a comeback for that reason being that you did feel the same. In fact, everything you’re doing contributes to  proving Yoongi as innocent. This wasn’t about you anymore.
“What else do you know?” The only thing you could do was return the conversation back to the situation at hand.
“You know I’d love to tell you and all but I have a reason for keeping quiet. It’s almost like how everyone else stays quiet.”
Everyone seems to fear the power that Mi-Rae has over them.
“Because of Mi-Rae and her father?”
“I don’t know, you tell me.”
He leaned his head on his hand yet again and simply stared at you. You squirmed under his gaze and decided now was the time to leave.
“If you’re not going to say anything else, I’m gonna leave.” Turning on your heel, you sped-walked to the front door, Yoongi’s footsteps following you.
“Actually I have one more thing to ask.”
At this point you were standing outside his door and he was stood inside his apartment, hands in his pocket. “After all this is over, we should go on a date.” The only thing you managed to squeak out was a dopey ‘huh?’.
“I want you to be my girlfriend but I don’t want you to get into any trouble right now because of me. So, after it’s all over I’ll ask you properly.” You were in the midst of coming up with something that could be classified as an answer when Yoongi leant forward and pressed his warm lips against yours. The kiss was over as fast as it started but the warmth and tingling sensation remained.
“I’ll see you later.” With that, he lifted his hand to wave goodbye and slowly closed the door, leaving you standing there, staring at his door like an idiot.
A soft smile broke out on your face.
