how in the world do you draw hands 🙁

im sure im starting to sound like a broken record at this point, but lots of practice!! and use references!! practicing and using references will genuinely do so much for you. but beyond that i think it can be very helpful to understand the structures of the hand! as in the bones and joints and defining muscle groups, so you know where to put everything

when it comes to actually drawing hands,, its helpful to break things down into their basic shapes! when i draw hands i tend to think of the palm as a square, but i like to leave a little bit sticking out for where the thumb goes, since its such a prominent part of the hand and merges with the palm i like to know exactly where im placing the thumb at all times.

from there i add fingers, which i like to think of as a series of cylinders stacked on top of each other (it helps to pay attention to where you place the joints!! especially the knuckles!!) and remember the thumb always sticks out from the rest of the hand a little. and you can bend them however you like (within reason of course,, you probably dont want to be bending the fingers in unnatural ways unless its intentional)!!

i also find it helpful to remember how the outside of the hand is more rigid while the inside/palm of the hand is more fleshy, and your skin will fold and bend easily. i like to include fingernails and something to indicate where joints are like skin folds/wrinkles as well!

and if im in a rush or just want to simply determine a hand shape then i draw sort of vaguely glove shaped blobs that i may or may not render more later. i think getting the basic shape you want down can be helpful

long time no post.. hey guys 😵‍💫 i've been stumped with the next page of the comic for so long even though it's not a difficult page at all!! i think i just hit a wall creatively; every sketch i made (and i made a LOT) just felt off and i had to put it down.

SOOO here's an adult lamb reference!! i don't need it right now, since he won't look like this for a while.. but it was fun & refreshing to make!

lamb's adult design used to just be how he looked as an apprentice but with slightly darker fur & the same scars.. BUT NOW HES COOL!!!!! and yes his fur does get darker with age!! (colorpoints❤️)
