“you said you wanted to talk?" “yeah…it can wait, though. enjoy your date.”
For more of my Boggie brain rot
i'm always happy to help further the boggie brain rot, thanks so much for sending this in! it got a bit long so i've posted it over on ao3, the link to the full fic will be in the reblogs!
the one who's waiting at home
Bobby is getting really tired of this.
It just keeps happening, is the issue. It keeps happening, and Reggie keeps trying, and Bobby is always left to pick up the pieces when it goes wrong.
Because every single time Reggie goes on a date with someone, he gets attached. And every single time, whoever it is that he’s seeing ends up not appreciating the wonder that is Reggie. Every single time, it ends in heartbreak.
And every single time, Reggie blames himself.
It’s stupid, really. Reggie is quick to love, and honestly, it’s one of Bobby’s favourite parts of him. His roommate has a big heart and doesn’t hesitate to let people in, which, especially considering the difficult life he’s had, is really admirable. Bobby himself could never be this open with his affection. There’s a reason Reggie is the one scoring dates left and right while Bobby doesn’t even remember the last date he’s been on. Which is fine – based on the way dating is going for Reggie, he’s not exactly eager to ‘get out there’ – and he’s the last to judge, he really is. If dating all these stupid people who aren’t good enough for Reggie is what makes Reggie happy, then by all means, Reggie should date more people.
It’s just that, you know, all these stupid people aren’t good enough for Reggie and inevitably end up breaking his heart.
Okay, maybe Bobby is getting a little more upset about this than he has any right to be. In his defence, he’s been crushing on Reggie since the second the other moved into the apartment and so far, he’s doing an admirable job of not letting anything on.
There’s no point in telling Reggie, of course. Reggie loves so easily, so openly, that surely, Bobby would know by now if his feelings were returned. They don’t seem to be, and thus, Bobby keeps his mouth shut.
What he will not keep his mouth shut about for any longer, though, is how much these dates are breaking Reggie’s heart. No, that he has to stop.

hiii linden i love this ask game! okay okay how about 23 and 87 for the spotify wrapped fic thing?
Hello!! I'm glad you enjoy it!
Very sorry these are taking so long, I've been sick for a week (I'm getting better dw)
Okay, you got lucky and got the only two Two Door Cinema Club songs in my playlist. @rose-crown3d also asked for 23, and Lea originally did too (I asked her for another number) so it was very popular!
23. Undercover Martyn - Two Door Cinema Club
When I looked up the lyrics, I read that this song is about someone with anxiety, Martyn, who is really scared of going to a party ("sick in the car seat / cause you're not up to going") but his friends want him to go because he always hides and doesn't know about all the good things he can find at parties ("many surprises await you")
And who does this better fit to than our favourite boy Alex Mercer.
So I'm thinking basically just that. His friends are invited to a party, he doesn't wanna go because he hates parties, being out there, all these other people. But his friends are practically dragging him there, he needs to live life and meet new people.
And this song is very nice to make willex too.
When Alex eventually makes it to the party (set in someone's basement) and has had a horrible evening so far, he meets Willie, and is immediately in love. Switching the pronouns of the lyrics, "he spoke words that would melt in your hands, / he spoke words of wisdom," (no clue if that is how it was intended) but that feels very much like how you talk to someone at a party and for whatever reason (alcohol, adrenaline) it feels like that person is just telling you all the secrets of the universe. I feel like that's very willex.
So they meet, they talk, they fall in love--it was good that Alex went to that party, mission accomplished ("out on the main street / completing your mission")
87. Lavender - Two Door Cinema Club
This one was a little trickier, because I'm honestly not sure what this song is about.
My immediate thought was to have this be a fic about someone, probably Reggie dissociating, based on the lyrics, "maybe I can find the right frequency and station / I might just stay" - "Gravity is losing its hold". Unfortunately I really don't know a lot about dissociation so I wouldn't actually write the fic.
I can really recommend no one's heart feels pretty on the outside by @sunsetcurvecuddles tho, it's about Reggie dissociating during band practice and Bobby helping him through it and out of it. It's very gentle and beautifully written, I really like it!
So if someone agrees with me that this song would fit, I'm offering the prompt for people who feel comfortable to write it 🤲🏻

“Jesus-frigging-christ, Liv! You need to breathe air--”
There was a protest. Not especially decipherable as the child was still desperately trying to shove her face back in the water.
From the shore, the beginnings of a crowd watched.
“I don’t care if ‘backwards mermaids’ only have gills, you’re a little human girl and you need to breathe to not die!”
Taylor hauled her six-year-old from the sea and up toward the shore, with more than a little difficulty. Whenever Liv was pulled above the surface of the water, she’d holler at the top of her lungs and thrash about wildly.
“I’m dying! I’M DYING!”
A concered Isla tugged at Michelle’s hand. “Mommy, Liv hurt?”
“Not at all-- she’s just playing a game with Auntie Taylor.” Then Michelle called out to her friend. “Do you need a hand there?”
“Nope-- I’ve--- just about-- got her---”
Further up on the sand, Zahra gave Craig a nudge. “See? This is why we’re having no kids. This is kids.”
“Dunno, Z, looks kinda fun… and I’ll bet Tayls doesn’t even need to work out to stay in shape anymore.”
Panting heavily, Taylor dragged her daughter onto the sand by her legs, then dropped her there.
“There! I’ve done my part-- you can just stay out here for the seagulls to feed on.”
Craig’s jaw dropped. “That is cold.”
Zahra sniggered. “Parenthood’ll do that to a person.”
Then Taylor walked a few more steps onward and collapsed onto the sand herself, settling on her back and groaning.
“Oh no,” Liv puffed out at last, between guffaws, “I died. Rest in peas.”
Reggie poked his cousin with a toe. “Yep. She’s dead all right. We should bury her!”
And he rushed off to grab the largest shovel he could find.
Isla tottered over and crouched down over Liv. She stroked her big friend’s forehead. “Don’t worry,” she said. “Make you better.”
“Hey!” Reggie cried as he returned with a bucket overflowing with sand and waving a spade at Isla. “That’s my cadaver!”
“Where the hell did that kid learn the word ‘cadaver’?”
“Some book, probably. He’s a Graleister baby, isn’t he?”
Liv wasn’t letting ‘being dead’ put a dampener on her backwards-mermaid bit. Dramatically, she put a hand to her forehead, while Isla looked at her with increasing concern.
“Lala, I’m a backwards mermaid so I died. From all the horrible, horrible air that my mommy made me breathe.”
“Sad!” said Isla.
A little way away, and still keeping an eye on things in case the backwards mermaid was resurrected, Taylor groaned as she sat up. Definitely a bruise coming on after that struggle.
Michelle came over to sit with her, offering a much-needed refreshment. “You know… I think the toddler stage maybe isn’t so bad after all….”
Taylor snorted a laugh and gratefully took the drink. “Thanks! It’s peaks and troughs… the highs are pretty great now, and even the lows… let’s just say I don’t miss the screaming tantrums.”
“She’s so excited to be back here,” Michelle commented. “I guess it’s to be expected she might be veering on the side of too excited.” She looked to her friend, who appeared wistful as she watched the children play. “How about you? Is it strange to be back?”
It felt like coming home. From the time the plane touched down, it had been as though Liv had taken a breath of fresh air after being boxed into a more artificial, more complicated world. It was natural that Taylor felt some guilt in taking her daughter away from this place, away from her beloved Tio Diego… but still it felt like they’d made the right call.
“It’s strange in that it doesn’t feel like we were ever away. I was talking with Estela about it last night; we should come back more, not just for the reunion. Liv’s pretty settled in Northbridge now, so it shouldn’t be too disruptive to spend our holidays back here whenever we can.” She offered Michelle a grin. “You could always join us.”
Michelle laughed. “I’m lucky I can even swing the reunion every year. The only way I’d get any real time off was if I had Mat Leave… and we’ve pretty much landed on Quinn being on mom-duties next time round so I can finish my residency and maybe go on to a fellowship. If I want to specialise as a neurohospitalist, there’s not a lot of room for taking my eye off the ball. It’s already one hell of a balancing act with a wife and toddler, I’ll tell you that much for free.”
“I don’t know how you do it, to be honest,” Taylor admitted. “But we’re thankfully very flexible at this stage. Whenever you have a window and you’d like some friend time, just say the word. That’s been one of the things I’ve liked most since we moved; most of us really aren’t too far to reach out to.”
A sudden movement to her other side made Taylor jump out of her skin. “Jesus, ‘Stel! How do you still sneak up on me like that?”
Estela smirked, and played with her wife’s hair, pulling out some seaweed. “Been for a dip?”
“Two words. Backwards. Mermaid.”
“Goddamnit, Livita-- backwards mermaid…..” Estela muttered, shaking her head.
Michelle cracked up at just how obvious it was that this game was an ongoing thorn in her friends’ sides. “If it helps, I think Reggie’s done a good enough job in burying her with sand that Liv won’t need rescuing from herself for a while.” She craned forward to check out what the kids were up to. “And Isla’s decorating Liv with shells, that’s sweet. You know, she just adores Liv. I’ve always thought it was a shame both her moms are only children, so she’s always going to be missing out on the cousins front. It’s pretty great to have Liv, Reggie and the twins as ‘cousins-that-aren’t-cousins’. She’ll always have that extended family, forever… because we all just can’t help but coming back together.”
Liv dragged herself out of her sandy ‘grave’ and skipped over to plop herself down in Michelle’s lap.
“Hiya Auntie Michelle!”
Michelle put her arms around her and squeezed, not even minding the wet sand. “Hiya Liv! Are you a human girl again now?”
“I’m not really anything right now,” Liv said, “I was a backwards mermaid-- that’s a mermaid with a fish head and person legs, but then Mom took me out of the sea, so I died. I only had gills so I couldn’t breathe!”
Before Michelle could respond, Isla had barreled over and was trying to peel Liv off her lap.
“Liv, that’s my mommy!”
“It’s okay, Lala, I’m just having a cuddle with Liv right now-- why don’t you sit on Auntie Tay’s lap? I bet she’d love that.”
Isla considered for a moment, then broke into a grin. She opened her arms and let Taylor pull her into a cuddle.
“So,” Michelle said. “What if I told you, Liv, that I could give you special pills that would let you breathe above the water-- even though you’re a backwards mermaid?”
Liv’s little face lit up. “You could do that?”
“Hey, I’m a doctor. Of course, I’d need permission from your moms.”
“Moms! Can I have the special medicine? I’ll be a mermaid again!”
Taylor shared a smirk with Estela. No more fishing Liv out of the sea as she tried to shove her head under until she passed out? And Livi wanted this? Hell yes.
“We’d better take the good doctor’s advice….”
All-seriousness, Michelle held out her hand flat, and with the other ‘picked up’ something tiny and invisible from it.
“Okay, Liv. I’m going to need you to take one of these with a drink of water. That’ll give you a perfect pair of lungs that will work alongside your gills; that way you can play up on land with the other kids… and come up for air when you’re swimming.”
“Wow-- you’re so smart!”
“And the rest of these,” Michelle said, still keeping Liv’s attention, “I’m going to give to your moms. Just in case they ever need to bring you up for air.”
Taylor held out her hand and accepted the invisible medicine.

4. "I think I deserve a kiss for this." from these fluffy prompts!
Bobby has had a long day.
It’s Friday, which is without a doubt his least favourite day of the week. Sure, it’s nice and close to the weekend, but it’s not actually time for that yet, you know? There are still twenty-four hours to go. Add to that an incredibly wonky college schedule, with six full class hours – and not even fun ones – in a row, followed by a shift at work, and a broken coffee machine in the staff room, and, well. Let’s just say that by the time he makes it home, he’s dragging his feet and finding it difficult to stay awake on the bus.
He can’t even fully relax when he gets home. He still has groceries to buy, and dinner to make, and he doesn’t even want to think about the last time he did laundry or vacuumed the place. He’s just been so busy with other things that he’s fallen terribly behind on household chores.
With a big sigh, he opens his front door. He’s fully expecting to be faced by the grocery bags he laid out that morning, surrounded by mail he hasn’t sorted through, but he sees something completely different. Something much better.
“There you are,” Reggie says, grinning. He’s just leaving the kitchen, two full glasses in his hands. “I was wondering when you’d be home. Dinner is almost ready.”
He places the glasses on the table. For the first time, Bobby notices that it isn’t covered in the usual junk – he doesn’t have a lot of storage space, okay? – but that there’s a dinner for two laid out, candles and all.
“What?” He brings out, frozen in place. When he’d given Reggie a key to his place, he’d been expecting to find his boyfriend eating his cereal, not doing this.
Reggie grins and walks up to him, taking his bag and pulling a face as the weight of it hits him. Bobby’s been dragging a lot of books around.
“Well, I know you’ve been super busy, so I thought we could have a nice, relaxing night in for a change? So I made dinner, and cleaned up a little when it was cooking and stuff. So we can eat first and then maybe watch a movie after?”
Reggie bites his lip, suddenly looking a little uncertain.
“But I completely understand if this is too much,” he says. “I- I can go, if you’d prefer that. I just thought you deserved a break, you know?”
Bobby unfreezes and surges forward, throwing himself at his boyfriend. He buries his face in the crook of Reggie’s neck.
Reggie’s arms come up to hold him tightly.
“Thank you,” Bobby says, his voice muffled. He doesn’t bother moving and repeating it, though. He’s too comfortable for that. “I really needed this.”
As if on cue, his stomach grumbles. Reggie chuckles and squeezes him one last time before letting go. Bobby reluctantly untangles himself from his boyfriend. Somehow, he feels a lot lighter now than he did just minutes ago.
“C’mon, let’s eat.” Reggie leads Bobby to the table and pulls out a chair. He doesn’t sit down across from him immediately, though. Instead, he leans down and rests his head on Bobby’s shoulder.
“I made spaghetti,” he says, pointing at the dish, “and garlic bread, and there’s ice cream in the freezer.”
“Thank you,” Bobby says again, turning his head to the side so he can look at Reggie. “It smells amazing.”
Reggie grins. “Well, you know I like to cook.”
Bobby presses a kiss to Reggie’s cheek. Up close as he is, he has a perfect view of the red spreading on Reggie’s cheek. Even after months of dating, Reggie still blushes anytime Bobby does anything remotely flirty. It’s one of Bobby’s favourite things ever.
“I think,” Reggie says, already a bit breathless, “that I deserve a real kiss for this.”
Bobby reaches out and cradles Reggie’s jaw with one hand, tilting his head so he can reach his lips. He’s not one to refuse a request like that, of course.
Kissing Reggie, Bobby has discovered, never gets old. The slide of their lips together, the feeling of Reggie’s fingers threading through his hair, is nothing short of perfection every time they kiss. This time is no exception to that. Bobby feels his exhaustion fading with every second that ticks by. He could spend a lifetime kissing Reggie, he thinks, without getting tired of it. He’d be the happiest man alive.
Currently, however, he’s also very much hungry. The third time his stomach growls, Reggie pulls away.
“Let’s eat, before it gets cold,” he says.
Bobby leans up for one last kiss, just a short press of their lips together, before he lets Reggie sit down. There will be plenty of time for kissing later, once they’ve had some of Reggie’s delicious food. Once they’re curled up together on the couch, a movie playing and a bowl of popcorn in their laps.
I’m a day late again, but here are the fics that I’ve really liked this past month. All of these are complete. Enjoy!

This takes place in the Loners verse so check that out if you haven't yet. Flynn is about 7 here.
Flynn’s Aunt Michelle lives a car ride away, but sometimes Flynn likes to pretend the house next door is hers because they both have bumblebee mailboxes.
The neighbor’s bumblebee mailbox is situated so that Flynn can just see it if she stands on top of her bed on her tiptoes, so that’s what she’s doing now, hands braced on the windowsill so she can press her nose up against the glass.
“You know he doesn’t actually live there, right?” Julie says from behind her, sitting on the floor amidst their combined Barbie collections.
Flynn pouts. “I know. I’m just pretending. You think he barks at the mailman?”
“I think that’s probably a mean question,” Julie muses. “Your mom said he’s more a person than a dog, remember?”
“Right, right.” Flynn does remember that, now that Julie said it. It was the first thing her mom said, actually, when she gave Flynn and her siblings the “your new cousin’s a werewolf” talk.
“So when do I get to meet him?” she asks later that night, once Julie’s gone home and Flynn’s helping her mom clean up from dinner.
Her mom hands her the next plate to dry. “Meet who?”
“My cousin,” Flynn says, like it’s obvious.
“Oh, Reggie?”
“Reggie,” Flynn repeats, feeling the name around in her mouth. She decides she likes it and bounces on her toes a little, balanced on the kitchen stool so she can reach the sink. “Reggie the werewolf.”
“Hey there,” her mom cautions. “Remember what we talked about? We’re gonna treat Reggie like he’s just a regular kid, okay?”
Flynn resists the urge to roll her eyes. “Okay, Mama. So When do I get to meet him?”
She chuckles a little. “Soon enough,” she promises. “He’s still getting settled at Aunt Michelle’s, but you’ll meet him plenty soon.”
“Okay.” Flynn tries not to sound too disappointed, because whining is rude.
They finish the dishes in relative silence, and then just as Flynn’s about to run off to play, her mom says, “Tell you what. Why don’t you make Reggie a card?”
Flynn tilts her head. “Like a birthday card?”
“More like a welcome card. Draw him some nice pictures, tell him how excited you are to have him in the family. I can bring it over to Aunty’s on my way to work tomorrow.”
Flynn thinks about it. A welcome card… She can do that! “Okay! Good idea, Mom!”
So that night, she writes Reggie a welcome card.
Dear Reggie, it says.
My name’s Flynn. I’m your cousin! Welcome to our family. You’re gonna really like it here. We’re pretty awesome. I hope I get to meet you soon! Maybe you can come over and play Barbies with me and my friend Julie sometimes. You can be all the Kens.
Love, Flynn!
At the bottom of the page, she draws a big bumblebee. That way, if Reggie is scared of the mailman, he can get used to the bumblebee on the mailbox and maybe not be so scared anymore.
And someday soon, he’ll come over to her house, and they can look at the neighbors’ bumblebee mailbox together.
“thank you, for not letting me look super lonely.” michelle let out a laugh. she wasn’t sure why she let herself be set up for a blind date, but the fact she’d been stood up and left sitting in the restaurant alone was embarrassing enough. “i’ll pay for dinner, i promise. to say thank you.”
