—INSPIRED BY: LOVE ME AGAIN - V
Tumblr media
It’s funny how life works.
Especially when you’re sitting at this wedding, sipping on another glass of rosé— staring at the one man who, at one point, meant the entire universe to you.
Then, it’s also funny how life works; when life decides that this is your person, just not the right time.
“Girl, can you go and do something? He keeps looking at you. And don’t tell me he isn’t because I can see that blue head from miles away.” One of your bestfriends since college said. He nudges your arm, making you almost choke on the sip you just took.
“No, Reggie!” You almost whine, turning towards him. “It’s been so long, I don’t even know what I’d say to him.”
“Okay, but baby, he looks like he’s dying to talk to you. Poor Felix. Y/N always playing her goddamn games.”
“Quit it.” You nudge him back and he snorts.
“I’m kidding. But seriously, he looks like he wants to talk to you. Who cares if it’s been so long? I’m sure the conversation will flow perfectly. Give it a chance.” He takes a sip of his own cocktail. “Besides, if I remember correctly, you were head over heels for that man just as he was for you.” You sigh, setting your glass down— quickly reminiscing about the past.
You might have been young, and you may not have experienced everything life had to offer yet; but to say Felix was the love of your life would be an understatement.
He was everything to you.
Love, adoration, fun.
Sweetness.
He was also sadness, anger, hurt.
Pain.
Everything that entails love; being so, so in love.
And it’s just unfortunate that it wasn’t the right time because Felix was someone you pictured your life with. Everything about the relationship was right, and equally balanced. He showed you just how much he loved you and how much he adored you. You had more good times than bad with him. He taught you how to communicate better, to express your needs and wants, to enjoy life and live in the present moment.
He taught you so much that he really is part of the reason why you’re the person you are today.
After the three years of dating, Felix was graduating college and you were going into your senior year. Understandably, you felt like you needed to experience your last year by yourself, and you felt like Felix needed to figure out his plans moving forward. As much as you loved the way he factored you into every decision, you felt like it was wrong for him to do so— for him to feel like his life revolved solely around you. And of course, you loved him. This would’ve worked. But, it wouldn’t have felt right.
You needed to find yourself without Felix, and vice versa.
Breaking up with Felix was probably the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do, but he understood. And because he loved you, he let you go. There was no bad blood, no hint of hate or anger; Felix had only left with more love and hope, praying that you’ll be okay.
Maybe one day, you’ll find your way back to each other.
It’s funny how life works.
“I’m not going to force it. I’ll let it happen if it happens.” You look at Reggie, taking another big sip of your rosé; eyes quickly glancing over to Felix from over the glass. He’s still conversing with a few mutual friends, eyes meeting yours from a distance. His eyes are soft, facial expression slightly unreadable.
Pressed, crisp black button down with the sleeves rolled halfway up his arms. Silver watch adorning the left wrist, slacks sitting nicely on his frame.
You’re sure of the butterflies you feel. It’s crazy how Felix still has this effect on you.
You clear your throat and revert your attention back to Reggie with a: “Can we go dance?”
“Now you’re talking.” Reggie laughs, grabbing your hand and leading you to the dance floor for a dance with other friends. The majority of the time you’re on the dance floor, you’ve temporarily pushed your thoughts and feelings away to enjoy being around friends you haven’t been able to hang out with or see in quite some time. You’re enjoying yourself, singing and dancing along to the music blasting in the venue. At one point, you don’t realize that Felix and his friends have joined in, creating one huge crowd in the middle of the dance floor that’s become the life of the party.
“Hey, I’m gonna go to the bathroom and get some air. I’ll be back in a few.” You say in Reggie’s ear. He nods, throwing up the ‘okay’ sign to acknowledge that he understood you through the loud music.
“You need me to come babysit your ass?” He leans near your ear to quickly ask.
“I’ll be fine!” You laugh, rushing off to the bathroom to relieve yourself from all that rosé. You take a couple of moments to freshen up and pat away at your makeup, hoping to keep it together for the remainder of the night. You fluff your hair a bit before giving yourself one last look before walking out and heading towards the back end of the hotel.
It’s a beautiful night tonight— one where the stars are twinkling brightly above, dotted throughout the night sky and circling around the full moon. There’s a faint breeze that feels awfully good on your skin right now, the waves crashing against the surface just right below the hill where the hotel sits.
“Hey.” A familiar, deep voice comes from behind you. You fiddle with your fingers a bit, bottom lip tucked underneath your teeth as you turn and come face to face with Felix— eyes completely fixed on the one man whom you’ve always loved; the one man who, at one point, meant the entire universe to you. “I’m sorry, I just came outside to make sure you were okay. But, I guess I should’ve figured it was since Reggie was still—” Felix shakes his head and lets out an embarrassed chuckle. “Nevermind. Sorry.”
“No, it’s okay. Thank you for checking. I—” You lazily point at the sky. “I just needed some air. Was getting really hot in there.”
“Yeah it was.” He laughs a bit. “You sure you’re doing okay? Do you need me to get you water or anything?” Typical Felix, you think. He’s still the same. Everything about him has remained unchanged.
“I’m okay, Felix. Thank you.” You respond softly. “It’s nice to see you.” He digs his hands into his pockets, head tilting to the side.
“It’s nice to see you, too. It’s been so long.” He smiles. He’s the first to step forward and envelope you in a hug, taking in his scent as you hug him back. Oddly enough, everything feels the same. Felix’s hugs have always been the best, and part of you hates having to part once the moment is over. “You look amazing, Y/N.”
“You do, too.” You point at his hair. “Though, I have to say the blue hair was a surprise?” He laughs and nods.
“Uh yeah, was kinda a bet with some of my friends.”
“It looks good though, you pull it off well.”
“Thank you.” He licks his lips before nodding towards the bench further down the path. “Do you wanna catch up?” He pauses. “I-I mean it’s fine if you wanna get back to the party, totally understand. I just thought we could kill two birds with one stone and–”
“I’d love to.” You cut him off with a sweet smile, letting Felix lead the way to the bench.
And so here you are, sitting side by side with Felix— enjoying the night while the music continues to play in the background. You start by telling Felix what you’ve been up to all these years, how your parents have been, living life in the city. Felix says he’s been in and out of the city, traveling back and forth between Australia to hang out with family in between work. You share lots of laughs when you update each other about family and their whereabouts, reminiscing about the times when your families would have lots of fun together. The both of you also talk about how it’s been awhile since everyone’s been under the same roof, but it’s a nice occasion to be together. Then, somehow, the conversation shifts to love and dating. You awkwardly tell Felix that you haven’t really been in a serious relationship since graduation. You’ve dated around, but nothing felt right.
Nothing felt equally balanced, or like it was meant to be.
But, it’s okay. You reassure him you’ve been okay focusing on you and doing your own thing. In time, you’ll welcome whatever is meant to be in your life. And Felix tells you he’s glad to hear that— that he’s also dated around but things just didn’t feel right, either.
“Y/N.” He calls for you as he looks out, then shifts his attention back to you. “Are you happy?” He looks at you, really looks at you, and he doesn’t take his eyes off of you. Almost like he’s doing his best to read you, to find the answer deep within your orbs, your body language.
“I guess so, yeah.” You softly smile at him before looking at the view. “Are you?” He shrugs a bit.
“Yeah. Think so.” He licks his lips and lets out a small breath. “As long as you’re happy, then that’s all that matters to me.”
“Thanks, Lix.” There’s a comfortable silence that falls between you two after that conversation. But, something shifts in the air; shifts enough to the point where you feel Felix’s eyes rest back on you from your peripherals. The sudden tension could be felt from miles away, but you’re not sure how to act on it. The simplest thing you could do is—
“I’m sorry, is there something on my face?” You break the silence and ask, a bit confused as to why Felix just keeps looking at you, staring; fixed. He lets out a small laugh before shaking his head.
“No, there isn’t. I just—” He pauses. “You’re so beautiful, Y/N. Always been. I can’t help it.” He says, eyes softening again as he settles on your features. He gently brushes the hair away from your face, thumb trailing down to your cheek to caress the surface. You lean into his touch a little more, having to pull away when you realize the reality of this all.
It’s funny how life works.
“You know.. I think I’m gonna call it a night.” You shyly chuckle and look down at your lap, hands awkwardly rubbing away at the fabric of your dress as you let the excuse linger in the air for a second. “I didn’t realize how exhausted I was after all that dancing and singing.” Felix chuckles. He feels a little embarrassed, but he also dug himself into this one. He shouldn’t have reached out so quickly. He couldn’t help it.
“Do you need me to drive you anywhere?”
“No, I rented out a room for the night solely for this reason.” You stand with Felix following suit.
“Let me walk you to your room then?”
“Oh, you really don’t have to Lix. I’ll be okay.” He smiles hearing the nickname roll off your tongue.
“I want to.” You look at him with a small smile and nod.
“Okay. I just need to grab my things.” He follows behind, keeping a safe distance just to keep you comfortable– not knowing that you’d rather have him close than far away.
Inside, everyone is still keeping up the energy except for a few that have either left, or decided to sit down for the remainder of the night. Reggie is drinking water at your table, and he can’t help but throw a certain look your way when he sees you walking in with Felix following right behind you. You catch on though, and you simply shrug while Felix returns to his friends to let them know he’s heading out.
“Okay so.. what exactly is happening here? Miss ‘It’s been so long, I don’t even know what I’d say to him.’” You roll your eyes and grab your things.
“I’m heading up to my room. Felix is just walking me there.”
“Walking you all the way up to the second floor? Goodness me.” You laugh and shake your head.
“You should get to yours soon, too.”
“Mhm, I want a progress report tomorrow morning.” He puckers his lips before eyeing you up and down.
“Stop it.” You glare at him. “I love you, goodnight.” You simply tell him before turning on your heel to bid your other friends goodbye, along with the bride and groom.
“Get it girl, I love you too!” You hear him respond just as you continue your goodbye’s until you’re near the entrance, with Felix waiting right outside the doors in the hallway.
“Hope you’re ready for a good long trip up to the second floor.” Felix laughs.
“Yeah, sounds pretty exhausting, honestly. It’s been a night.”
“It has, but I had lots of fun.”
“I did too.” He steps inside the elevator after you, leaning back against the railing. He eyes your figure, the way the dress hugs your curves nicely, heels strapped around your ankles. You’ve always been so beautiful; everything about you, inside and out. You can see the way Felix is focused on you through his reflection on the elevator doors in front of you, and it makes your heart do flips.
Because he does that thing he always does— when he tilts his head at a certain angle just to see you, read you, perfectly. Knowing you’ll meet his eyes at some point just for him to pull you in closer.
To plant a kiss on your lips,
Down to your jaw,
Collarbone—
“Y/N, is this not your floor?” Felix asks, breaking you out of your thoughts when you realize he’s holding the elevator doors open.
“Oh, right. Yeah, sorry. Just zoned out for a bit.” He lets out a tiny laugh as he watches you walk down the hallway, turning right at the end to get to the second door. You tap your hotel key against the reader, hand twisting the handle to unlock the door. Before you can open it fully, you turn back to Felix— seeing him quietly standing there with his hands dug into his pockets. “This is me. Thanks for walking me to my room, Lix.”
“Course. I guess I’ll let you be.” He smiles toothlessly at you. Your inner dialogue is conflicted right now, wondering if you should just let him be and let this end right where it is—
While the other half is yearning to keep him around, to have his company, to just be with him even after all these years.
“Have a good night, pretty girl.” He continues, hoping that he really doesn’t have to part with you right now. He’s not gonna force it though, and he’s not gonna say anything else— even though he feels like he has a lot more to say to you tonight. Maybe this is how it was meant to be after all, which Felix will have to learn to put to rest if it truly ends this way.
But, before he can turn on his heel to walk away, you follow up with:
“Actually, do you wanna just stay and hang out a bit more?”
“If it’s not a bother.”
“Never. Sorry, I should’ve asked earlier. I just didn’t want to make it awkward or whatever.”
“Could never be that way with you, Y/N.” You chuckle, stepping in and letting Felix follow you in. You set your clutchbag onto the side table at the corner of the room, undoing your heels and setting them aside.
“God, that feels amazing.” Felix laughs as he sits on the edge of your bed, watching as you get comfortable. “I can’t wait to get comfortable. You have a room here, right?”
“Mhm.”
“Do you wanna change and just come back here? I feel bad that I’ll be the only one getting comfortable.” He laughs a bit and shakes his head.
“I’m good for now. I promise.” He watches as you undo your necklace. “Need help with your dress?” You look at him through the mirror as you set your necklace down onto the drawer and silently nod. “I got you.” He says, getting behind you to help you unzip your dress. It’s something small, but so intimate and sweet.
And with Felix, it feels perfectly right. Even if years have passed. You never feel out of place with him, and he only feels like home to you.
He slowly unzips your dress, eyes trailing down as his hand falls down to the small of your back. You feel his breath tickle the back of your neck, body only inches away from yours as he keeps his position there.
“Felix.” You softly call his name, and he can tell. He just knows. He looks at you through the mirror, hand slowly wrapping around your waist.
“Is it weird to say that I’ve really missed you?” He says lowly as his eyes trail down your neck this time, fixed on the weak spot that he remembers so, so well.
“No. I’ve missed you, too.”
“I mean it.” His fingers are fiddling with the strap of your dress. “When I saw you tonight, you were all I could think about. Not that anything’s changed, but—“ He lazily slips the strap down, letting it fall to the side as his finger traces a line up your arm; to the curve of your shoulder. “I just couldn’t believe that I was finally seeing you again.”
“Lix.” The way you breathily release his name from your lips tells him everything he needs to know. You’ve missed him too, you’ve really, really missed him, too. And of course he feels the same way you do— absolutely. If it wasn’t for shit falling into place at the wrong time, Felix was sure that he’d still be loving you the way he was before.
No question.
Nothing has changed. The love he’s had for you will always mean more to him than anything in this world.
Felix still feels like love, adoration, fun.
Sweetness.
And if you let him, he would also feel like sadness, anger, hurt.
Pain.
Because Felix is love, and everything that love entails.
“Missed everything about you.” He says, planting a feathery kiss on your shoulders. “Missed the way you laugh.” Another kiss on your shoulder. “The way you smile.” Another near the base of your neck. “Just you.” He says near your ear, reading your expression. You bite onto your bottom lip and finally turn to face him, his hand coming back up to rest on your cheek. “Always been you, love.” His thumb is caressing the surface, giving you leverage to plant a kiss on the palm of his hand.
“Always been.” You mutter back, allowing Felix to fully take you—all of you— in this moment.
Sooner or later, your dress is on the floor while you continue to keep your lips pressed against Felix’s in the heat of the moment; afraid to break the kiss and create distance. You don’t ever want Felix away from you again, no. You want him close— with you, for you, by you.
Just you.
He takes his time with you, letting his hands roam across every inch of your body while he takes you in and settles in between your thighs; pressing his pink, plump lips across your body like he’s soothing you, making up for the years that you’ve lost.
You’re tangled up in him, but you find that there’s no other place that you’d rather be than here; giving Felix the freedom to love you, love on you, however he chooses to tonight. You trust him to take care of you because he always has, and he always will.
It’s not long before your hands are gripping the sheets, repeatedly calling Felix’s name like a mantra. He praises you as he picks up the pace, pounding relentlessly to show his need for you. His lips graze the surface of your neck, collarbone, chest, whispering sweet nothings into your skin:
Missed everything about you.
So perfect for me, love.
So beautiful, so pretty.
Always been you.
All about you.
He continues, and continues— holding you close to his body while he tries to go slower, deeper; hitting all the right places that you like so much just to hear you, see you, writhe underneath him.
You.
Let me be yours.
“Fuck, Lix. I’m close—“ Is the only thing that you’re able to say as you feel the coil within you threatening to unravel. And he must feel it too with the way that his hips begin to stutter, teeth digging into his bottom lip as he tries to hold on. He feels your walls completely tighten around him, pulsating as your face contorts in pleasure and a silent moan leaves your lips.
“Baby, where do you want me— fuck— I’m—“ Felix barely lets out. You reassure him that he’s okay to let go inside of you, and not a second passes before he’s painting your walls. His forehead falls onto yours just as the both of you come back down from your highs, focusing on regulating your breathing after the intense pleasure that washed over you. “Are you okay, angel? You’re not hurt, are you?” He asks, close to a whisper. He kisses you lightly on the tip of your nose, before he seals one off on your lips. He holds it there for awhile before pulling back, realizing you still have yet to respond to him.
“I’m okay. Not hurt.” He nods.
“Let’s get you cleaned up, yeah?” Felix takes his time cleaning you up and soothing you, helping you get washed up and ready for bed just before he leaves to do the same.
For a moment, you feel like everything is over. That maybe, that was the closure you needed to finally close off that chapter in your book. That maybe, that was it to Felix and you’d return to being [somewhat] strangers again. It makes you a little scared, a little anxious.
But, it all blows away when Felix comes back, dressed for bed just as he had said. He shuts off your lights and slips into the bed next to you, pulling the sheets up so that you’re comfortable.
“For a second, I didn’t think you were actually going to come back.” He lets out a small, breathy laugh as he wraps his arm around you and pulls you flush to his body.
“What, why not? I’m here to stay, love. Not going anywhere.”
“Even when tomorrow comes?”
“Even when tomorrow comes.” He kisses the back of your head. “Unless, you have other plans already?”
“No. Just you.” He chuckles.
“Sounds like a plan to me.” You snuggle closer to him, allowing his warmth to completely envelope your body. Before you know it, you’ve fallen into a deep sleep in Felix’s arms, and he does too. Even when the morning comes, you still find yourself wrapped around Felix and snuggled against his body, light kisses being pressed against your head when you wiggle in his arms.
It’s funny how life works.
Because this time around, Felix is here, lying beside you; making things feel right, connected. Balanced. You shift in your position to look at him because this time around, you’re staring at the one man who, up until now, still means the entire universe to you.
Then, it’s also funny how life works; when life decides that this is your person, and this is finally the right time.
This time around.

angelina ‘angel’ mercer in the best part [1/2]
Angel Mercer had one constant wish throughout her recent birthdays, and on her sweet sixteenth, it came true; she died.
Life hadn’t been particularly kind. Her parents expected her to follow into their footsteps, and not wanting to disappoint them, she told herself that she couldn’t afford to make mistakes. All she cared about was her grades and being on top of her classes, just so her little brother doesn’t have to and could live his life the way he wanted. And then, she realized that they both wanted the same thing ― to make music.
But with all that pressure on her shoulders, it was no surprise that she just wanted it all to end. In the time being, she showed Alex and his band nonstop support and how happy she was for him. Until he came out to their parents and they never looked at him the same again; that was when she knew she had enough. Angel defended her brother and spit her parents’ high expectations on their faces by joining his band and chasing her dreams with Alex and his quirky best friends that she grew to love.
She found herself a life worth living, a life where the people in it were worth living for ― and it was taken all away in the form of a slippery floor.

Looking Up Luke x Reader Pt 1
Tumblr media
Pairings: Luke x Reader (Briefly at the end), Julie x BestFriend! Reader
Warnings: Fluff, Brief mention of sad memories.
Word count: 2211
This is My first post so bare with me. I’ll get better at the edits and stuff as I learn my way around Tumblr. I also took inspiration from Paramore and the reader was strongly based on Hayley Williams in my mind but you can make her in your image. I don't own Paramore or their music. The song I took inspiration from is Looking Up.
“Jules, you and Flynn are coming tonight, right?” You ask while you and your best friend throw you school books in your locker after your last period. Julie looks over and smiles at you.
“Of course! The boys were wanting to tag along especially after I told them how you were in a band of your own. They wanted to know why you denied their offer after Luke heard you shred the guitar solo during that one rehearsal.” She says.
“If he thought I was shredding that guitar, just wait till they see what I really got going on. Right now all they know and all anyone knows and thinks is I play guitar for the band. Also Luke wanted me to join so he could see me everyday.” You smile.
“Wait, Jackie walked?!” She screamed excitedly.
“Yeah, after her and I got into this huge argument about the upcoming shows and letting me actually sing vocals for MY songs she walked away, and someone had to take her place. I wrote this new song we are going to play tonight, you’re going to love it.” You smile at her.
“Y/N this is amazing! Our mom’s would be so proud of us.” She smiles longingly.
“Maybe we could collaborate one day, I know you’re a bit more popish than what Paramore is but we could make something work!” You smile at her. She jumps up and down loving the idea of the whole thing.
“Yes! That would be amazing! Let's head home, we have to get ready for tonight. Oh how will we get in? I thought the venue sold out in minutes?” She asks turning to look at you as you two walk through the doors to your car. You pulled 5 vip lanyards out of your bag and handed them to her.
“I got you covered girl, don’t worry.” You smile unlocking the door. The drive back to your house was filled with you blasting all your bands old songs and singing along. You were lucky enough to live in the same neighborhood as Julie and the boys so you often carpooled to school but the boys had things to do after school before the show so they went their separate ways. Julie was trying to help you choose your clothes for tonight but with you two being so entirely polar opposite it was hard. If anyone was to help you it should have been Luke since you two share almost the same fashion sense with a hint of Reggie mixed in. You eventually settled for an old cut up Sunset Curve shirt you “borrowed” from Luke with a lace bra underneath and you paired that with your highwaisted, ripped black skinny jeans and your studded Doc Martens. What you decided to do with your hair and makeup will come to you once you hit the venue. You gathered your things to pack into the car while Julie made some final accessory details to your look. She handed you your chain to attach to your jeans along with an assortment of rings and bracelets. Everything was looking perfect for your first big performance as the lead singer.
“Okay, I gotta head to the venue for soundcheck. You, Flynn and the boys should be there around 6, the show starts at 7:00.” You smile, dropping her off at her house. You see the boys sitting in the garage waving at you. You smile and wave back before backing out of Molina's driveway and head towards The Orpheum.
Soundcheck went perfectly and it left a little time to grab a light snack before you had to get ready. You knew not to go to the street dogs stand after the incident with the boys that ended their lives 25 years ago before they met Julie and you and somehow were brought back by the two of you. Your drummer’s  girlfriend decided to have catering come out with healthy choices which you were enjoying as we speak. Heading back to your dressing room the security guard stopped you saying there was a group of people here to see the band.
“Oh that’s my friends from school, you can let them on back. Thanks Alan!” You smile popping a strawberry in your mouth.
“You didn’t tell me you were playing the Orpheum!” You hear Flynn yell causing you to turn around with a piece of cantaloupe hanging out of your mouth.
“Well you didn’t ask.” You say chewing the part that was in your mouth.
“Okay smartass. Also when did you change your hair color?” She asks pointing to your now orange hair. You smile slyly at her.
“I did last night, but I wore it up in a hat today so people didn’t see it until now.” You say getting up to hug your friends. The boys are just standing at the door staring at you.
“I don’t bite, you can come in.” You joke ushering them in.
“You’re playing the Orpheum tonight Y/N how does it feel to make it big?” Alex asks.
“I’m not sure yet, maybe I’ll know after the show. Which speaking of that when you guys head down to the floor just find Alan and he’ll take you to the spot that’s reserved for you guys.” You smile at them.
“Your hair is so bright.” Is all Reggie can say making everyone burst out laughing.
“I can’t wait to see you shred the stage tonight. That day at rehearsal when you and Julie were goofing off… Holy shit, that was sick!” Luke says jumping up and down.
“It runs in the family to be honest. Our moms were in a band when they were our age and my dad is a world known rockstar so I learned at a young age.” You smile winking at Julie.
“Well we should start heading down so you can get ready. We are going to dinner after this to celebrate just so you know.” Julie says smiling at you. Once they left you started getting ready to meet up with your band to do your before show ritual handshake.
“All right guys, this is the Orpheum. The place is packed with execs. This will be our big break. Let’s rock it!” Andrew says putting his hand in the middle as the rest of you follow. The opening band finishes their set signaling your time to go. The band runs out causing the crowd to erupt in screams of your name. You stay back to surprise everyone as they begin playing your new song.
“Los Angeles! Are you ready!” You scream from backstage as the beat picks up.
Things are looking up, oh finally!
I thought I'd never see the day
When you smile at me.
We always pull through, oh when we try,
I'm always wrong but you're never right.
Oh you're never right!
You run out causing everyone to scream as you work the stage to the music. Luke, Flynn and the boys look up in awe hearing your voice for the first time. The way you rocked out was breathtaking to Luke.
Honestly, can you believe
We crossed the world while it's asleep?
I'd never trade it in, 'cause I've always wanted this!
And it's not a dream anymore!
No. It's not a dream anymore!
It's worth fighting for.
You interacted with the audience as you sang the lyrics. You shot a wink over at Luke when you noticed his jaw nearly dropped to the floor. Julie looked over at him and knew right then and there he has fallen in love with you even more than he already was. She smiled at her bandmate. She saw the smile break across his face as he began banging his head to the beat.
Could have given up so easily
I was a few cheap shots away from the end of me
Taken for granted, almost everything that I would have died for
Just yesterday,
Just yesterday
Honestly, can you believe
We crossed the world while it's asleep?
I'd never trade it in, 'cause I've always wanted this!
It's not a dream anymore!
Oh. It's not a dream anymore!
It's worth fighting for.
You interacted with your bandmates as they played their instruments, dancing around the stage as you had the time of your life. Jumping and head banging with your guitarist.
Tumblr media
God knows the world doesn't need another band, (whoa, whoa!)
But what a waste it would've been! (whoa, whoa!)
I can't believe we almost hung it up (whoa, whoa!)
We're just getting started (whoa, whoa!)
Honestly, can you believe
We crossed the world while it's asleep?
I'd never trade it in, 'cause I've always wanted this!
It's not a dream anymore!
Oh. It's not a dream anymore!
It's worth fighting for.
You stood there smiling, taking a breath letting the crowd think you were done before you jumped off the drum stage singing the final line of the song.
I can't believe we almost hung it up!(whoa whoa)
We're just getting started! (whoa whoa)
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!
You dropped to your knees as you held the final verse as the lights went out sending the crowd into a fit of cheers and screams. You smile to yourself as you hold the microphone in your lap. The lights come back on letting you see the crowd still cheering you on. The surreal feeling you had was causing your heart to sing and you were pretty sure you saw a sign off in the distance of the audience that let you know your mother was proud of you. Composing yourself, you finished the night with 6 more songs.
“Thank you guys for coming out to support a small band from this sleepless city. We are Paramore! Good night!” You said before running off backstage. You are met with your friends and a very starstruck Luke.
“Oh my god! That was amazing! I mean we knew you could sing but that was epic! Why haven’t you fronted before?” Flynn asks.
“Jackie wouldn’t let me. The band was my idea back when I was slowly getting back into music but I was still wanting to stay back and play. I wrote all the songs and let her sing them. When I finally said I was ready for a shot she threw a fit and when the rest of the band sided with me she walked.” You say taking a swig of water.
“So this is why you refused to join us?” Alex asks.
“That and your style isn’t my style of music. It’s to pop centric but I told Julie there might be a chance of collaboration in the future.” You smile seeing Reggie get excited about the idea.
“And then we can do a country album!” He yells causing your bandmates to start laughing at your reactions. During your laughter you didn’t see a man dressed very businessy walk in.
“Y/N…” Julie says tapping your shoulder pointing to the doorway.
“Oh, hi!” You say walking over with your band to meet the man.
“I’m Eric from Capitol records. Are you Y/N?” He asks.
“Um, y-yeah I am.” You say reaching out to shake his hand. Your friends are eavesdropping behind you while pretending to hold a conversation of their own.
“I’ve seen many bands here, I’ve scouted some of the biggest names in music but the energy you displayed tonight is something we’ve never seen but have been looking for, for our label. Capitol records would be happy to have you join. Here’s my card. Give me a call and we will set up a meeting with the head of the label and get you signed.” He says handing you his card.
“Oh my, wow! Thank you. Also if you don’t mind me spreading the word but I know of another you might be interested in. I’ll send you their latest video if you’re up for it.” You smile sneaking a look over at your friend and her bandmates.
“Of course, we are always looking for new talents.” He says before exiting the room.
“Was that?! YES!” You scream jumping into Luke’s arms. Everyone starts dancing around cheering.
“We are being signed to Capitol Records!” You yell into the air as Luke holds you close to him. His eyes never leave your smiling face. He throws caution to the wind when you look back at him and he crashes his lips onto yours making everyone stop and gasp.
“Well it's about damn time!” Alex shouts as you two pull away.
“Well damn Patterson, if that’s what I get for getting signed I wonder what I’ll get after I tell you I sent your video to him as well.” You smile.
“YOU DID WHAT?!” The band screams together.
“We’re all getting signed.” You smile.
“I’m going to marry this girl.” Luke says kissing you once more with more passion than the first. Everything was falling perfectly into place and you couldn’t wait to see what the future holds for you all.
I don't know how good this is, it sounded good and looked good when I was writing so I’m throwing caution to the wind and going for it.
@parkeret I promised I’d tag you in my first one, I hope it doesn't suck!
@issaxcharlie thank you for also pushing me to do this as well!

The Intern
The Intern: A Luke x Reader One Shot
Luke Patterson x Reader
Title: The Intern
Words: 2,755
Summary:, Sunset Curve are posing for the photos for their new album. Y/N is the photographer’s intern who catches Luke’s eye.
TW: None
Author’s notes: This idea popped into my head after Charlie posted the photo of him being photographed. It kinda got away from me and went on a bit of a tangent, but I quite liked the outcome. I hope you do too.
Tumblr media
“Guys, this way please. That’s right, just there. Perfect.”
Your boss, Caleb Covington, photographer to the stars, filled the large studio with his vibrant voice and even more vibrant clothing choices as you sit behind the laptop making sure the shots coming through are suitable for use.
All you’ve ever wanted is to be a photographer, and this internship was the first step on the ladder to the career of your dreams.
“Hey, Y/N, can you do me a favor sweetheart?” You stand and walk over to where Caleb is adjusting the lighting as the guys of Sunset Curve go for an outfit change.
“What’s up, boss?”
“There’s a thrift store a block over can you run over and grab whatever scarves they have?” He hands you a handful of money. This was common, Caleb would start a shoot, get hit with a vision, and then send you off to chase down obscure props. “Also, as many fake flowers as you can. I’ll make sure everyone takes a lunch break while you’re out, so you don’t need to rush.”
“Sure thing. Give me an hour?”
“Take your time.” Caleb reattached the camera to the tripod in front of him. “Also, take the small canon with you. There’s some great street art that could be used for these guys.”
“Thanks, boss.”
You grab the bag containing a small point and click camera and shoulder the strap. As you leave the studio, you realize how supportive Caleb is of your dreams despite the bad rumors that are constantly floating around about him. He’s never given you occasion to doubt him and he allows you to use the equipment in the studio whenever you want, and often encourages you to take photos from behind the scenes.
Walking along the sunny New York streets, you take photos of the amazing architecture and as you near the thrift store, you see the street art Caleb told you about. It’s gorgeous. Six feet tall, bright blue angel wings cover a brick wall and you take a few shots, change angles and take some more. Eventually, you lower the camera and enter the thrift store.
Within ten minutes, you have a bagful of scarves and a handful of fake flowers and are ready to head back, not before stopping off at your favorite delicatessen to buy your lunch.
Back at the studio, Caleb and the guys are sitting around a round table, chatting.
“Where do you want these, Caleb?” You ask waving the flowers at him.
“Oh great you’re back. Just hand them over to Kayla in props, we’ll work out what to do with them after lunch. Come and join us.”
It wasn’t very often Caleb invited you to mix with his clients, so you jump at the chance. You pull out a chair and sit down as Caleb introduces you to the four guys that are around your age.
“Y/N, this is Reggie, Bobby, Alex, and Luke.” Each of the guys give her a wave in greeting, but there’s something about the last guy, Luke, that has you locking eyes with him for a moment. With a cough, you look away and take a bite of your sandwich, but you can still feel his hazel eyes on you.
:: ::
Once lunch is over, the guys head back into make-up for a touch up while Caleb rearranges the while space, placing the flowers you bought around the space. The scarves are hung in the window, which is opened to let in a breeze, moving the material in waves.
As he works, you upload the photos of the street art you took and begin to edit them.
“Wow, those are amazing.” A voice behind you makes you jump. Turning around, you see Luke staring at the screen in front of you. “Did you take those?”
“Yeah, I did. Thanks.”
“Y/N, are those street art shots ready yet?” Caleb calls out as he walks over to join you and Luke. “Oh, honey. These are fantastic and will look amazing as a backdrop for the guys.” He turns to Luke. “What do you think?”
“Hell yeah. This album cover is gonna be gnarly.”
You feel your face heat up from the blush that’s creeping over your skin at the compliments you’re not used to receiving. Feeling somewhat embarrassed, you turn away and focus back on the screen, allowing the sounds around you to fade into a pleasant buzz as you work.
“Girl, you have an admirer.” Flynn the make-up artist Caleb always uses creeps up behind you.
“What are you talking about?” you ask, trying to concentrate, but the guys of Sunset Curve are in your direct eyeline above the lip of the open laptop and they all look amazing.
“That guy, Luke. He can’t stop looking at you.” At her words, you can’t help but look over at him where he’s standing on a windowsill, made into a silhouette by the sunlight flooding through the glass behind him. You lock eyes for longer than is necessary. “Oh, you like him…” Flynn nudges your shoulder with hers.
“Shut up,” you hiss, worried people will hear her.
“Nuh uh. I’m making the most of this. Can I just say, the guy smells gorgeous?” With a laugh, Flynn retreats back to her corner of the studio and begins packing up her equipment. You watch her and when she turns to wave at you, you can’t help but flip her off, making her laugh even harder.
As the day draws to an end, you’ve packed away all of Caleb’s gear and locked it in the huge safe in his office, apart from the camera he’s been using all day. Sunset Curve are with Flynn having make-up removed and have changed back into their own clothes.
As you and Caleb upload the photos to his laptop, you can’t help but stare at Luke’s bare arms exposed by the cut off band tee he’s wearing.
“I’m just gonna grab some air, boss.” You tell Caleb, suddenly needing to be out of the studio.
“Why don’t you call it a day? I can finish up with these later this evening.”
With a grin, you give him a quick kiss on the cheek before going to grab your bag.
“Hey, Y/N,” Flynn called out from her corner. So much for a quick escape. You head over to where she’s putting the last of her stuff away in her huge case on wheels.
“What’s up?” You ask, feeling four pairs of eyes on you as you approach Flynn, avoiding looking at the guys watching you.
“Are we going for a drink?” she asks you, finally looking up at you.
“Well, I wasn’t planning on it.” Immediately, you regret saying the words as Flynn’s face screws up. It’s Friday, you’ve both been working crazy hours for Caleb, and you know you both need to let off steam.
“Oh, come onnnnnn. Julie’s meeting us.” Julie, the third in your trio of friends, worked as a studio musician nearby. “First round of shots is on me.” Flynn was in wheedle mode and knew you couldn’t resist. You heard chuckles from behind you and turned to look at Sunset curve seemingly enjoying the show. You’d forgotten they were there and felt your blush return.
“Oh, go on then, but I need to go home and get changed. I’ve been in these clothes all day.”
“Honey, no. You forget where we work.” Flynn grabbed your hand and pulled you behind a changing screen where an outfit was already laid out for you.
“This looks suspiciously li-” Flynn held a slender finger against your lips.
“Just get changed.” She disappeared, leaving you alone, You could hear her chatting as you pulled your clothes off and pulled on the ones she’d picked out for you, knowing there was no way she’d let you get away with wearing anything else. As you pulled on the cut off band tee, you were glad you wore on of your favorite bras – a black lacy number – as the arm holes were crazy huge.
The skinny jeans had been rolled, but because you had on heavy duty combat boots, you unrolled them then pulled your boots on.
“You look great.” Flynn reappeared, armed with a few essentials. With a sigh you let her attack your face with eyeliner, mascara, and a bright red lipstick. “Perfect, even if I do say so myself. Fluff up your hair, then get your booty out here.”
When you finally emerged from behind the screen, the conversation between Flynn and Sunset Curve – why were they still even there? – paused as all five of them turned to look at you. Reggie, at least you thought that was his name. Beyond Luke, you were a bit fuzzy, let out a low whistle.
“Dang, girl.”
“I hate you.” You hissed under your breath at Flynn who was grinning like a fool.
“No you don’t.” She linked arms with you and led the six of you out of the building.
“You could have told me you’d invited them.” You spoke softly so you weren’t overheard.
“Would you have come if I had?”
“Probably not.”
“That’s why. Now, I need to call Julie, make sure she’s on her way.” Letting go of your arm, Flynn pulled her cell out of her bag and held it up to her ear.
“Y/N, are you okay?” Luke appeared next to you. Flynn had been right he did smell good.
“Yeah, I’m good. I was looking forward to a long bath, but Flynn likes to get her own way.”
“I noticed.” Luke laughed as the girl in question linked arms with Reggie and Alex behind them. “She’s a force of nature, huh?”
“She’s something alright, I’ll decide later once I’ve had a few drinks.” He laughed again.
They arrived at their favorite bar where Julie was waiting outside for them.
“Y/N, you look amazing.” She soke as she hugged you.
“Thanks, I’ve been ‘Flynned’”
Flynn rolled her eyes as she made introductions as they entered the bar. Instantly, the smell of beer and floor polish assaulted your nose and you felt yourself relax. This bar had been like the fourth friend to you, Julie, and Flynn while you’d all been at college.
“Shots?” Flynn asked, making her way to the bar while the rest of you found a booth big enough for all of you.
“Shots, and lots of them.” You called out as you slid in, Luke following you, his firm thigh pressing against yours, heat flooding through you.
:: ::
A few hours later, you’re nicely buzzed from the alcohol and when the music starts, you drag Julie and Flynn out of the booth and onto the small dance floor in the corner of the bar.
For most of the night, the seven of you have been chatting about nothing in particular, and you couldn’t help but be hyper aware of how close Luke was sitting next to you and how much attention he paid you as you spoke.
“Girl, you and Luke. That’s some chemistry going on.” Julie spoke loudly over the music. Automatically, you look over at the booth where you see Luke watching you while his friends are talking amongst themselves. It isn’t unpleasant being watched by a guy that good looking.
“Right? I saw it earlier and had to sort out this little excursion.” You glared at Flynn playfully as the three of you moved to the music surrounding you.
“Oh, Nick’s here.” Julie ran off the dance floor and leaped into her boyfriend’s arms, peppering him with drunken kisses. You and Flynn grin at one another at the display. Usually, Julie was more subdued, but tequila had a habit of helping her lose her inhibitions.
“Ten bucks that they leave within five minutes.” You say to Flynn who laughs and gives you a high five. True to form, less than four minutes later, Julie waves her goodbyes and leaves hand in hand with Nick. Flynn hands you the money which you tuck into your pocket.
“I need the bathroom. I’ll be back.” Flynn slides away, leaving you to dance alone. It doesn’t bother you feel the beat of the music throughout your entire body.
Looking back over at the booth, you see Luke is sitting alone, still watching you. You can’t help but smile at him as the song changes from something upbeat to soft and slow. People begin to leave the area around you and you look around for Flynn, unable to see her.
“She bailed.” Luke spoke directly into your ear, his breath warm against your skin. It makes you shiver, and the feeling isn’t exactly unpleasant.
“Of course she did.” You groan, thankful for the bet you won which should just about cover an uber home.
“I guess I should do the same, then.” You can’t help but look up into Luke’s eyes, still swaying to the music – or is that due to the tequila?
“Before you go, can I have this dance?” he asks. Nodding, you step into his arms, noticing how firm and warm they are wrapped around your waist. Your own arms snake around his neck and the two of you move to the sounds of Ed Sheeran singing about his Perfect girlfriend.
“I never expected you to dance like this.” You say to Luke, not quite sure where it comes from.
“It’s easy with the right partner.” He smiles down at you, making your heart feel as if it’s about to short circuit. He really does have a pretty smile.
“Smooth talker.” Is all you can think of in response as you both continue to sway. As the song comes to an end, you reluctantly pull yourself out of Luke’s arms. “I guess I should call an uber.” You murmur, not moving off the dancefloor, enjoying the feel of Luke’s bright eyes on you.
“Sure.” He doesn’t move either. “Wait, how far do you live? Maybe we can share one?”
“Four blocks.” You shrug.
“How about we walk? Why pay for an uber for a ten to twenty minute walk?” He wasn’t wrong, but you rarely walked the streets alone after a night of drinking.
It’s cool, but not cold when you both step outside, the doorman giving you the thumbs up, making you roll your eyes.
“You don’t have to do this.” You tell Luke.
“Y/N, I want to.” He holds out his hand for you to take hold of. You oblige, a jolt of electricity running up your arm. “Which way?”
You start walking in the direction of the apartment you share with Flynn, Luke falling into step next to you, still holding your hand. A comfortable silence falls over the two of you, and you keep your gaze in front of you. The feel of Luke’s hand clutching yours is sending your body into overdrive and your brain doesn’t quite now how to process it.
Sooner than you’d like, you stop outside your building.
“This is me.” You can hear the disappointment in your own voice and see a flash of something on Luke’s face.
“Well, I guess I should say goodnight then.” He says, his voice soft, almost a whisper.
“Maybe you should.” Neither of you have released the other’s hand. You simply stand on the sidewalk, looking at one another.
Your brain is screaming at you that you don’t know this guy, that you only just met him, but your heart is telling you to do something to stop him walking away. It’s been a while since you’ve had this kind of connection with someone and it’s been even longer since you brought a guy back to the apartment,
The pink tip of Luke’s tongue pokes out and runs around his plump lips, attracting your attention. His deep chuckle makes you aware he knows you’re thinking about more than saying goodbye. Without a word, he bends his head and places a gentle kiss against your lips.
Before it started, it was over, and he pulled away. Using the hand not holding yours, he reaches into his back pocket and pulls out his cell.
“Can I get your number?”
You enter your number into his phone before he places another soft kiss on your lips, lets go of your hand, and begins to walk back in the direction you came from.
“Hey, Luke?” you call out, trying not to worry about the morning. He turns to face you, a question in his eyes. “Want to come up… for coffee?”

Behind the scenes - Sweet Pea
Request: “Hi there!! I was wondering if you could do a sweet pea imagine where the reader is Josie’s understudy in the musical and sweet pea never really noticed her because he was too focused on Josie and after he hears her sing “fight for me” to him in the musical he falls head over heels for her and keeps trying to be nice and protective of her because she’s small and quite..? Sorry I know that’s a lot”
Pairings: Sweet Pea x reader
Warnings: small panic attack and Reggie Mantle being a creeeeeppppppeeeerrrrrr
Summary: Sweet Pea can’t help but take notice of you when he catches you singing “fight for me” in the role of Josie’s understudy in the musical. Over the next few weeks, you take notice of the lingering stares you can never seem to catch and the significant disappearance of trouble around you
N/A: its literally like they just said “serpents”? “Sweetpea”? don't know her, and threw my boy out the window. Also, i might edit this later and add to it UPDATE: I EDITED AND ADDED MORE
Tumblr media
Despite your role of leading understudy in the Riverdale Highschool musical production of Heathers, you still attended every practice. Of course, that decision was influenced by Kevin and Fangs. In the chance that something went wrong, which would certainly not be an absurd occurrence in Riverdale, they needed you to be prepared.
You spent most practices sitting on the floor by Kevin and Fang's table, catching up on classwork and playing stupid games on your phone that made the time pass faster. The last 30 minutes of practice, were always designated for you. That was your time to shine.
Josie didn’t really deserve the leading role, at least,  that what your parents had told you many many times over. There were certainly people who agreed, Betty Cooper for example. Others would soon come to this conclusion too.
“(y/n), when the basketball guys get back in 10 minutes, you’re up,” Kevin smiled down at you. You smiled back in confirmation.
The start of the musical season, at Riverdale, always interfered with the end of the basketball season. And thus, all basketball players were late to musical rehearsals. Fangs still managed to be around for some musical practices, this was actually the first he had been able to attend in two weeks.
“Kevin, I don’t see the point in her practicing, no offence, y/n, if she’s not performing,” Josie complained.
“Why don’t you focus on yourself instead of worrying about y/n, God knows you need the practice,” Cheryl scoffed. Putting a hand over your mouth, you tried to hide your laughter. Josie scoffed and rolled her eyes at Cheryl in response. Cheryl sent you a wink from across the room.
Cheryl and you had never been more than friendly to each other, a few hellos’s in the hallway, helping each other with a few questions and equations for class occasionally. Her desire to defend you against Josie was a surprise, weren’t the two of them friends?
Kevin sighed and shook his head the interaction between the two girls. “Alright, take five. When we come back (y/n)’s up.”
Right on cue, in walked Sweet Pea and Reggie. The two of them definitely didn't seem like the musical type, but none the less, here they were.
Reggie scanned the group of theatre kids and when his eyes met yours, a smile grew on his face.
Reggie mantle was like the plague. Nobody wanted him to be there, but there he was; He was behind every door you opened, around the bend of every corner, he was in every class you have had since freshman year.
Reggie Mantle didn't know what the phrased “go away” or “leave me alone” meant.
An audibly loud sigh left your mouth when he started toward you. Sweet Pea chuckled lightly at this, the annoyance present in your body language.
“How’s my favourite girl?” he grinned wrapping his arm around your shoulders.
You shrugged his arm off and took a step backward, “Not your girl, Mantle; not even your friend.”
“Ouch,” Reggie winced, holding a hand to his chest in mock hurt. Cheryl and Toni laughed from beside the two of you. You and Toni made eye contact briefly, sending each other a small smile.
“Give it up, Reggie. You’ve been chasing (y/n) since freshman year and she doesn’t even want to touch you with a ten-foot pole,”  Cheryl snapped. Wow, she really did have your back today.
“She’d touch me, isn't that right, (y/n)?” he grinned taking another step toward you. You grimaced at the pearly white teeth poking through his menacing smile, a chill travelled down your spine.
“Your doctor doesn’t even want to touch you, Mantle, give it up,” Toni snarled.
Kevin let out a puff of air in frustration, “Alright, back to work,” he redirected the group.
With a small sigh you made your way up onto the stage, Josie stomping her feet on the way to her seat behind you.
You were never one for creating drama, Riverdale surely had enough of that, but if Josie continued to complain about your involvement in the play, there was going to be a problem.
“Alright, (y/n),” Kevin clicked his pen four times, “Fight for Me.”
You watched as Ms. Grenvell reached her hands out and started playing the introductory beat on the piano. Taking a deep breath in, you were ready.
Why when you see boys fight Does it look so horrible Yet... feel so right? I shouldn't watch this crap That's not who I am But with this kid… Daaaaamn
Josie rolled her eyes at you from her seat in the front row. Her legs kicked to sit over each other. Her arms crossed in annoyance.
Hey, mister no-name kid So who might you be? And could you fight for me Hey, could you face the crowd Could you be seen with me and still act proud Hey, could you hold my hand And could you carry me through no man's land It's fine if you don't agree But I would fight for you If you would fight for me
The serpents had never been around long enough or even interested enough to learn your name, but they certainly were now. The rise and fall of your voice was angelic, your articulation exquisite.
Toni’s face held shock, Fangs’ held admiration, and Sweet Pea’s held a smile. Pea may have not known much about Riverdale High or the people who attended it, but he certainly wanted to now.
                                                       ∘  ♔♔♔  ∘
The halls of Riverdale High had been quiet all week. The absence of Riverdale’s very own Mantle the Magnificant’s presence really put into perspective how little interaction you had with your fellow students. You had friends, but with the amount of Reggie Mantle that usually hung off your neck, they chose to keep their distance.
Reggie Mantle hadn’t tried saying anything to you in two days, he hadn’t even looked at you. For the first time in 2 years, you didn't live in a constant state of uncomfortable. And while Reggie’s lingering eyes had stopped, they were replaced with a new pair. Only this time they weren’t bad, they belonged to Sweet Pea.
You have never had a conversation with him, maybe a few head nods and small smiles here and there. When you heard that the Southside Serpents would be attending Riverdale Highschool, not even your greatest and wildest dreams could have brought your current reality to life.
Sweet Pea, arguably one of the toughest Serpents of his age, despite what his name claimed, took a liking to you. As cliche as it sounds, you were so painfully oblivious.
Sweet Pea spent months scaring the scoundrel’s of Riverdale High away from you. He spent months trying to figure out how to talk to you. He spent months trying not to fall deeper in love with you.
You spent months, for the first time since freshman year, hanging out with your friends and enjoying yourself. You spent months unbothered by the chaos of Riverdale. You spent months blind to Sweet Pea’s excessive starring and attempts to talk to you.
That was until one fateful day in January. Everyone had just arrived back from the break. And teens out of school surely meant trouble in Riverdale. The rivalry between the Serpents and the Bulldogs had been brewing, things were getting tense.
Slamming the door to your locker shut, there he was, Reggie Mantle, in all of his ignorance. With the roll of your eyes and sigh, you turned to look at him. Reggie slowly pushed you against the lockers, a smirk played on his lips. Your breath hitched in your throat at the unwanted contact.
“Miss me?” he grinned, hot breath fanning your face.
“Definitely not, Mantle,” you groaned. You tried pushing him off but to no avail, he still stood uncomfortably close.
This interaction must have been enough to push Sweet Pea over the edge. The next thing you knew, Sweet pea’s fist was hitting Reggie's face and Reggie’s face was hitting the floor. Your hand flew to your mouth, eyes wide.
Toni and Fangs stood nearby, along with a few Serpents who stood at each end of the Hallway to watch for teachers. A few students cheered as Sweat pea’s fists reconnected with Reggie’s body again and again and again.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Mantle,” Sweet Pea yelled pulling Reggie up to his face by the collar of his shirt. “You bother (y/n) again and I’ll beat you to a pulp,” he spits. With that, he drops Reggie’s collar, the boy’s head hitting the ground harshly. Sweet Pea looks over to you, but when the two of you make eye contact, he freezes like a deer in the headlights.
Someone yells out that Weatherbee is coming, but with all the yelling in the hallway, and the bulldogs emerging from god knows where, you get lost in the commotion.
Your back hits your locker as your eyes try to make sense of the scene in front of you. Your chest tightens and your breathing shallows, you wrap your arms around yourself.
A warm hand grabs yours, and you’re pulled away from the loud fighting crowd in the hallway of Riverdale High. The hand is large, it incases yours entirely. You can’t see much as you’re lead through the crowd, but you’re able to make out the slicked greasy hair and the worn leather jacket of the serpent in front of you.

When We Collide - Chapter One
Tumblr media
Word Count:  2,535
Chapters Released: 1 - Masterlist
Warnings: Slow Burn (this story won’t be going from 0-100. Hopefully, ya’ll won’t find it to be a complete snooze-fest. Other than that, this chapter really just introduces characters. There may be a swear word or two, but that’s it.
Authors Note: This is the first piece that I’ve written in a very long time, and though I’m nervous about releasing it into the world... I’m also very excited to share this little story that I’ve concocted in my head. I have so many stories that I think up and never post out of fear, and I decided that it ends now. I’m also slowly getting back into second-person style writing as it’s not my favorite, so any feedback on how I can improve is much appreciated! I hope that ya’ll enjoy this story!
*This story is inspired by the song ‘When We Collide’ by Jon Foreman. I would definitely recommend giving the song a listen. Thank you so much for checking out this story!
Tumblr media
Ten-minutes into the trek back to Downtown Los Angeles you started seeing signs for Paradise Cove. You had never ventured out to this particular beach mainly because you never really had a reason to be in Malibu, to begin with. But after seeing numerous signs for the location, you decided that a quick pit-stop was worth making time for. Plus, after the shit show morning that you had- the last thing you were in the mood for was the hours of editing that awaited you back in the office. With the exit rapidly approaching, you looked over at your videographer, Reggie, who was operating the wheel.
“Hey Reg, do you mind dropping me off up here at Paradise Cove? I just need a minute to breathe before we attempt to salvage any useful material out of the interview footage.’
Taking a quick glance from the road over to you, Reggie let out a chuckle in understanding. Reggie was an older gentleman, most-likely early fifties, but he’d holler out that he didn’t feel a day over thirty if you were to ask him. The topic of Reggie’s age was often a running joke throughout the office, as no one but the man in question knew of his real age. He had a heart of gold and years of experience in the business. You were thrilled when the two of you had been paired-up for assignments. If there was anything that you didn’t entirely understand or if an interviewee got a little cross with you, Reggie, always had your back. Over time, the two of you had developed a sort of father-daughter type of relationship. Having grown up in a single-mother household, Reggie indeed was the closest thing you’d ever had to a father.
“Sure thing, Y/N. Need me to stick around the area to pick you back up after a while?” Reggie questioned, knocking you out of the momentary daydream that you had fallen into.
Shaking your head, you sent Reggie a small smile. “No, you can go ahead back to the office. I don’t want to keep you. I won’t be long, though, wouldn’t want to miss out on all the fun editing ahead of us. I’ll just get an Uber back.” Once the shoreline came into view, you knew that you had made the right decision. It's as if the day's stress was already melting away.
”Here, take this for your ride back. And call me if you need anything.” Reggie voiced as he held out a twenty.
”Reg, I appreciate it, but I'm fine. I may not get any worthwhile assignments, but I do still get a paycheck.” you laughed.
”You know that I won't take no for an answer, Y/N, so just take it.” Reggie replied while placing the crumpled bill into your hand. ”Now go, enjoy yourself! Be safe. Don't talk to strangers! And be home before the street lights come on. It's all types of crazies out in Malibu!”
”Yes, dad. I got it. I got it! Don't worry.” you snickered dramatically as you sent Reggie a wave while exiting the vehicle.
Paradise Cove was precisely that, a picturesque beach situated just off of the Pacific Coast Highway with towering sandstone cliffs that made it feel as if you were in a whole other world. Given that it was a Tuesday afternoon, the beach was virtually vacant, which was precisely what you had desired. You needed a few moments to decompress and rid some of the clutter that had taken up residence inside of your head. Slipping out of your patent leather pumps, you relished in the warmth that surrounded your toes as you took your first steps onto the golden sand. Your hometown was a small coastal community so, naturally, you were a sea lover by heart. It saddened you that in the year and a half since moving out to California, you could count on one hand how many times you got to have a beach day. Making a mental note to work on actually having a life outside of the office, you gathered your shoes in one hand and followed the sound of the waves crashing against the shore until you were right where the land and sea meet. Tilting your head towards the infinite blue sky, you inhaled the salty air and allowed the warm breeze to cascade all around you. Nothing but the sound of the waves and the seagulls screeching as you shut your eyes and lived in the moment.
Time seemed to slow down to a crawl as you walked along the pristine shoreline. Nearly an hour had passed since Reggie dropped you off, yet you couldn't get enough. Every way you veered, your eyes discovered something new. A few more people had wandered out by this point, yet the calmness remained. You watched as children created sandcastles, and splashed to their heart's content in the majestic blue waters. Not wanting to wander too deep into the unknown, you decided to turn around and go back the way you came. It was then that your eyes landed on him. You didn't recall seeing him previously, so you figured that he couldn't have been sat there long. He looked to be about your age with grey, almost silver-hued hair that was fashioned in an odd cut. In all honesty, the style would likely look hideous on anyone else, but he pulled it off. From your view, you also happened to notice that he had a multitude of piercings adorning his ears, and some type of slit going through one eyebrow it appeared. Again, you thought of just how unflattering that would look on anyone else. Yet, here, this guy was making it work. Really making it work. You contemplated getting closer to where he sat, maybe even striking up a conversation, but what would you even say. ’Nice weather we’re having?’
Aside from that, the fact that he was alone was a good indication that he had come out here with intentions similar to your own. For peace or quite, perhaps, both. He appeared to be rooted in thought and clearly focused on what he was doing. A notebook was his primary focal point, and you watched as he scribbled word after word inside of the book. He seemed to be on a roll, and the last thing you wanted was to be some random chick disturbing his focus. So, you decided that you’d just continue to admire from afar until you passed him. No harm in just looking, right? As long as you kept it discrete and didn't give off any grade-A creeper vibes, it’d be fine. You just couldn’t shake the feeling that, for some reason, this complete stranger felt familiar to you. He had this aura about him, and you racked your brain trying to place his face but kept coming up blank. As your feet drew you closer to where he sat, you struggled to fix your eyes on something else. Anything else. But, nothing quite caught your attention like him. Deciding that you had about one more quick look left before you would appear completely stalker-ish, you glimpsed back at the boy one final time, only this time he was gazing right back with a knowing smile.
You completely stopped moving at the sight as if somehow standing still would make you invisible, but no. Red leaked into your cheeks as you nervously mirrored his captivating smile, and even braved casting a small wave in this direction, to which he thankfully returned. How embarrassing would it have been if he were looking at someone else? You mused as your mind became momentarily distracted, thinking up all types of worse case scenarios. Peering over at the boy once more, you were shocked to see that he had shifted his positioning slightly and made just enough space on the beach towel for one more. For the second time in mere minutes,  the two of you locked eyes as he motioned for you to come and join him. Were you really going to just waltz on over and sit near a man that you knew absolutely nothing about? Yes, that was precisely what you were going to do. The image of Reggie giving you his ‘don’t talk to strangers’ lecture replayed in your head on a loop as you made your way over to the boy. You cautiously sat down beside the stranger, attempting to keep as much distance in-between the two of you as possible, which proved to be no small feat considering that the beach towel was intended for one. You could feel the awkward level rising as neither of you spoke a word, just sat there staring at each other with matching smiles and curious features.
“I’m Hongjoong.” he finally voiced after a few more seconds of silence. The sound of his voice was even better than you had thought it would be. You could sense that English wasn’t his native tongue, but at that moment, you could have sworn that the boy had invented the entire English language all by himself.
“I’m Y/N. It’s really nice to meet you, Hongjoong,” you uttered nervously. Being this close to him was making you feel all mushy inside, and it was taking every fiber in your being to keep your shit together. The last thing you wanted was to create a complete fool of yourself.
After the initial awkwardness had worn off, the conversation between the two of you flowed seamlessly. Hongjoong was so animated and passionate with his words, and you quickly found yourself hanging onto every single one. Though you hadn’t known the man for long, you had already reached one conclusion, he was magnificent. You opened up and shared parts of yourself that had been locked away for years with Hongjoong because, for some reason, you felt as if you’d known him your entire life. He assured you that the feeling was mutual as you both revealed more than you probably should have considering you’d just met. Hongjoong had even let you in on why he had chosen to spend his day off at the beach, stating that he was in search of inspiration. Though the two of you never discussed your careers, you did discover that the notebook you’d seen him writing in were lyrics that he had composed. He briefly mentioned that his reasoning for being in the US was for business, so you just assumed that he was a songwriter or something along those lines. The sound of your phone ringing interrupted your conversation with Hongjoong, and you cast an apologetic look his way as you searched your purse for the device.
[ 1 Missed Call - Reg (Papa Bear) ]
“Wow, the time. Have we really been talking for over two hours? My co-worker probably thinks that I got swept away at sea by now.” you giggled.
The comment elicited a chorus of cackles from Hongjoong, and it was at that moment you realized just how much you adored his laugh.
“I can’t believe it either. Time goes fast when you’re in the best company!” Hongjoong proclaimed while pulling out his own device and checking the time.
“I was wondering if-” he started but then stopped just as quickly with his eyebrows furrowing slightly. You could sense that he was perhaps anxious about something, but you weren’t sure what it could be. He laughed somewhat and subtly scratched the back of his neck with one hand while outstretching his other that contained his cell phone to you. Oh, that explains the sudden rush of nervousness. You knew that you wanted to see Hongjoong again, but you didn’t want to be the one who initiated the whole number exchange, so you were more than thrilled that he went for it. With an even more full grin, you grabbed the device and handed over yours so that he could do the same. The minute your device was back in your hands, it started ringing again. You were seriously going to blast Reggie later on for cockblocking you not once, but twice. Not wanting your time with Hongjoong to come to an end you ignored the call and slipped your phone back into your purse, Reggie was going to have to wait for a little longer. When you looked back up, Hongjoong’s eyes were already fixed on you. A few moments of silence passed, but unlike the beginning of your conversation, this silence was comfortable. When your phone began blaring once again, you knew that, unfortunately, you would have to leave and rejoin the real world. Sitting along the shore with the wind in your hair conversing with the most attractive man you’d ever encountered, felt like a dream. One that you never wanted to wake up from. The look in his eyes mimicked your own, and you prayed to all the gods that this wouldn’t be the end of your story with Hongjoong.
“That’s work that keeps calling... I was meant to be back awhile ago, but I- I honestly didn’t want this moment to end. Thank you for this Hongjoong, it’s just what I needed. I’ve enjoyed getting to know snippets about you.” you expressed. The vibrant smile that etched its way upon his features let you know that your words were well received and reciprocated.
“No, thank you. Y/N. I came here hoping for inspiration, and now I have more than I could imagine. All because of you. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to sit and talk with someone about all different things. Things that I don’t usually share.” Hongjoong cooed as he cautiously reached for your hand and lifted it up to his lips. He then proceeded to place a feather-light kiss upon the back of your hand, all while never breaking eye contact. This man was going to ruin you, and you were completely okay with that.
“I have a hectic schedule coming up, but I will call, okay? I’ll find the time.” Hongjoong expressed while pulling you in for an embrace. You weren’t expecting the hug but welcomed it gladly as you wrapped your arms around his frame and simply just took pleasure in the final moments that you two would share until the next time. God, you hoped for the next time to come sooner rather than later. You simply nodded along as he spoke the words directly into your ear and squeezed you a little tighter as his tongue rolled over each syllable. You knew from past experiences how daft it was to put so much faith in a man, especially one that you had just met, but the words didn’t seem contrived or untrue coming from Hongjoong. He said he’d call, and you believed him.
Even if all you and Hongjoong were meant to have was this moment, the memory of being in his arms and the incredibly unexpected yet unusual time that the two of you had shared would never leave you.

It’s Good to Be Reggie Jackson, in the N.B.A. and in Baseball

It’s Good to Be Reggie Jackson, in the N.B.A. and in Baseball
Tumblr media
When insight was needed on the proverbial batting practice buzz generated by Stephen Curry’s pregame shooting routines or LeBron James’s unfamiliar pursuit of a championship in October, Reggie Jackson, the former Yankee, was a natural expert to seek out for an interview.
These unpredictable N.B.A. playoffs have provided further cause to consult Mr. October, because, well, who better to ask about basketball’s Reggie Jackson having a monster postseason?
Reggie Jackson, the baseball Hall of Famer, has never met Reggie Jackson, the resurgent Los Angeles Clipper, but the links between them are only getting stronger. The younger Jackson’s playoff flourish has made sure of it.
“I’ve always known the name and seen him around,” Reggie Jackson, who spent five seasons with the Yankees and turned 75 in May, said in a telephone interview. “And I’ve always hoped for him to do well like this. The fact that he’s got my name, I’m glad to see him doing well a little extra. I want him to make the name good.”
Jackson emphasized “good” and let out a laugh, knowing the Clippers’ Jackson is suddenly doing that regularly. The basketball Jackson began his 10th N.B.A. season with less than four minutes of playing time on opening night and started the Clippers’ first-round series against Dallas on the bench, but he has been one of the stars of this postseason ever since. On Monday night, Jackson helped the short-handed Clippers extend the Western Conference finals with 23 points in a Game 5 victory at Phoenix that staved off elimination.
The Clippers were without Kawhi Leonard, who has missed the entire series, and their starting center, Ivica Zubac, both sidelined by knee injuries. Paul George rightly soaked up the spotlight after scoring 41 gritty points in a 116-102 triumph that denied Chris Paul passage to his first N.B.A. finals. Yet Jackson remained prominent as he calmly continued his emergence as the team’s most reliable offensive option apart from George and Leonard — as predicted by no one when the playoffs began in mid-May.
Marcus Morris and Luke Kennard, each awarded a contract last off-season worth more than $60 million, haven’t approached third-option production. Jackson, playing on a $2.3 million veteran minimum deal at 31 years old, is averaging 18.1 points per game in the playoffs, while shooting a heady 49.2 percent from the field, 41.5 percent from 3-point range and 86.8 percent from the free-throw line.
Jackson has made at least three 3-pointers in 15 games this postseason, something only two other players in league history have managed: Golden State’s Curry and Klay Thompson. When Jackson and George are on the floor together with any three Clippers in small-ball lineups — any three, in other words, apart from Zubac and DeMarcus Cousins — Los Angeles is averaging a robust 1.34 points per possession.
Ian Eagle, the ace Nets broadcaster working playoff games for TNT, had seen enough by Game 5 of the Clippers’ series against Utah to excitedly trumpet a corner 3-pointer from Jackson thusly: “Ka-boom! Reggie Jackson has been Mr. June.”
Mr. October, as baseball’s Reggie Jackson has been known since the 1970s, routinely attends Golden State games and said he would plot a trip to watch his namesake in person “when the Warriors get their game back together.” It’s much easier for Jackson to relate to stars like Leonard or George than to a role player in an unforeseen breakout run, but Clippers Coach Tyronn Lue insisted that there was a tangible parallel beyond the name connection.
“Reggie, man,” Lue said of his playoff star. “He loves these type of moments to be able to play on a big stage.”
When Lue watches Jackson now, after making him a starter in response to losing the first two games of the Dallas series at home, he sees a player who is “so free.” Jackson said of the Clippers last week that “this team has empowered me” to play with that freedom — after myriad injuries (ankle, back, leg) led Jackson to a February 2020 buyout of the final year of a five-year, $80 million contract with the Detroit Pistons and uncertainty about the direction of his career.
Strong support from George, one of Jackson’s closest friends, has provided a key boost at dark times over the past year. And Lue has helped draw the best out of Jackson by simplifying his role compared with his time in Detroit. With the Clippers, Jackson has a green light to focus on scoring rather than playmaking. This season, for the first time in his career, he shot better than 40 percent from 3-point range during the regular season.
In yet another connection to Jackson’s baseball counterpart, adding eyewear to his in-game ensemble appears to have helped, too. The Yankees’ Jackson was famed for wearing aviator-style glasses at the plate and in the field that he said “kind of turned into my style.” The Clippers’ Jackson started wearing protective goggles in April after getting poked in the eye and promptly riddled the Houston Rockets for 26 points in the first game he tried them. In a foreshadowing of his playoff production, starting with the Houston game on April 9, Jackson shot 45.8 percent on 3-pointers (44 for 96) over his last 17 games of the regular season.
“The glasses are here to stay,” Jackson said.
His future with the Clippers is less certain. They can only offer a new contract that starts in the $10 million range because of financial constraints, and there is sure to be off-season interest after these playoffs.
Yet Jackson has incentive to explore staying, given how well he has settled in Clipperland, and I am throwing myself in as a beneficiary. Jackson’s postseason surge gave me one more excellent reason to reach out to the Reggie Jackson of my youth, for one of those all-my-worlds-colliding stories that I have loved sharing with you on Tuesdays in this space.
The first time I interviewed baseball’s Jackson was on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” when he agreed to join me on live television to co-narrate one of Curry’s dazzling pregame shooting sessions. Like a great home run hitter in the batting practice cage, Curry had fans arriving at Warriors games earlier than ever for a glimpse of his shooting prowess.
This is the third time I’ve interviewed Jackson for this newsletter, which made its debut in January 2018. After Kobe Bryant’s tragic death in a helicopter crash in January 2020, I asked him to share his experiences from the Yankees’ crushing loss of Thurman Munson in a 1979 plane crash. As the Lakers neared a pandemic-delayed championship, I asked him to expound on October glory and his LeBron fandom.
Because of my nostalgic bent, and the playoff story that basketball’s Jackson has been weaving with the Clippers, I thought one more chat with No. 44 was in order as I prepare to enter a new chapter in my career. After nearly four dream-come-true years here, including my introduction to the newsletter world, I am leaving The New York Times.
Some wise words from Reginald Martinez Jackson on Reginald Shon Jackson seemed like the perfect way to sign off.
“You’re always looking for a guy who can perform when it counts,” he said.
Mr. October would know.
Editor’s Note: We are sad to see Marc go, but this newsletter will be sticking around a little longer, through the end of the playoffs. We’ll have guest writers and our latest N.B.A. news, features and analysis. Stay tuned!
The Scoop @TheSteinLine
You ask; I answer. Every week in this space, I’ll field three questions posed via email at [email protected]. Please include your first and last name, as well as the city you’re writing in from, and make sure “Corner Three” is in the subject line.
(Questions may be lightly edited or condensed for clarity.)
Q: What’s the upside for playing for U.S.A. Basketball in Tokyo? The team is full of high-profile stars. I think they would benefit more, after how taxing the last two seasons were, using the off-season to train on their own and relax a bit. Are they playing for money — like endorsements? Is it to enhance their brand? Is there a performance edge to be gained? Is it for the perks of going to the Olympics? — Mike Chamernik (Chicago)
Stein: You answered your own question pretty well. Some or all of those benefits exist for N.B.A. stars when they play on the largest of world stages, which is why U.S.A.B. officials never have trouble finding 12 excellent players to fill out an Olympic roster.
The challenge is always assembling a roster worthy of the United States’ reputation in the sport for the quadrennial FIBA World Cup, which is held in much higher regard in most so-called basketball nations than Americans see it. That couldn’t have been more evident in September 2019, when the United States finished a lowly seventh — its worst showing in a major tournament since N.B.A. professionals were given permission to enter the Olympic arena starting with the Barcelona Games in 1992.
One of the biggest lures you didn’t mention: Playing for the U.S. team in men’s and women’s basketball almost always leads to a gold medal — and who wouldn’t want one of those? Trips to the Olympics are also often where star-to-star friendships can be hatched or fortified and then lead to future superteams, as we first saw with Miami-bound LeBron James and Chris Bosh after they played alongside Dwyane Wade on the gold-medal-winning U.S. team at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Yet another enticement offered by the Toyko team: San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich is coaching it. The chance to play for Popovich, if only for a few weeks, holds appeal to many players who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity.
Q: Do you think Ben Simmons ever works on his shooting during the off-season? — Eric Cummings Jr. (Bronx)
Stein: Daryl Morey, Philadelphia’s president of basketball operations, had a lukewarm response last week when he was essentially asked what you asked.
“My understanding is Ben is all in with the organization,” Morey said. “We would expect the players to be willing to do whatever’s necessary.”
The statement didn’t do much to quell the notion that Simmons’s off-season work ethic is substandard. Also true: If he is working on his game more than it appears, his results demand a complete overhaul in approach regardless.
Morey nonetheless figures to receive no shortage of trade offers because Simmons only turns 25 on July 20, plays game-changing defense at multiple positions and, perhaps most crucially, is under contract for four more seasons worth more than $145 million. Teams that struggle to attract free agents are sure to have interest in an All-Star who can’t quickly flee.
Much was made last week about the meeting Simmons’s agent, Rich Paul, had with Morey to discuss Simmons’s future, but their leverage is minimal. No-trade clauses are extremely rare in the N.B.A., and Simmons didn’t qualify for one when he signed his last deal. With Morey known to be as aggressive as it gets when it comes to seeking trades, rest assured he will move him if a palatable trade materializes.
I’m convinced that Simmons, like Markelle Fultz previously with the 76ers, needs a change of scenery more than anything. I agree that alone won’t do it; hard work, as you suggest, has to be a key element of any potential resurrection. Yet playing anywhere other than Philadelphia has to help his chances of extricating himself from the funk that left Simmons, presumably mortified by the idea of being sent to the free-throw line, unwilling to shoot a single shot in the fourth quarter of the 76ers’ last four playoff games. There’s just too much baggage there to overcome.
Q: I have followed the N.B.A. for decades. I have no recollection of the No. 1-seeded Hawks in 1994. — @BennettRayford from Twitter
Stein: This was a response to one of my tweets last week about how this was the first season since 1993-94 in which both of the league’s No. 1 seeds (Philadelphia and Utah) failed to reach the conference finals.
The teams that fell short back then were Atlanta and Seattle, and the reason I remember it so well is because it was my first season as a full-time N.B.A. beat writer. The Los Angeles Daily News assigned me to cover the Clippers, home and road, in February 1994 — about 10 days before the trade deadline. The Clippers slammed home pretty quickly that I had graduated to the big leagues with the biggest trade in franchise history to that point: Danny Manning to the Hawks for the Atlanta icon Dominique Wilkins and a first-round pick.
The Hawks made the trade when they were already contending for the best record in the East during the first season of Michael Jordan’s first retirement. It meant that, as a nervy 24-year-old who may or may not have been ready for the N.B.A. beat, I was suddenly covering Wilkins, someone regarded among my high school friends as otherworldly. In the 1980s, Wilkins had us entranced when ESPN and CNN were in their infancies and disseminating game highlights nightly and nationally for the first time. David Casarez, one of my best friends, was the first person I knew with all the cable channels. He had the responsibility of getting as many dunks taped so we could all watch them later as a group.
So it was tricky for me sometimes to forget how I viewed him just a few years earlier once I was suddenly traveling to cover Wilkins just seven years after my high school graduation. Two everlasting highlights from that first season were sitting courtside for David Robinson’s 71-point game in San Antonio’s regular-season finale at the old Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena to win the scoring title and a March trip to Atlanta for Wilkins’s emotional return to the old Omni.
Robinson’s performance, with Madonna infiltrating the Spurs’ locker room after the game to see Dennis Rodman, had greater historical significance, but watching Wilkins score 36 points in a rare Clippers victory as a visitor to Atlanta will seem eternally surreal to me.
Numbers Game
34.2
Ben Simmons’s 34.2 percent free-throw shooting (25 for 73) in the playoffs was the second lowest in league history for players who attempted at least 50 free throws. Only Detroit’s Ben Wallace (18 for 66 in 2005-6) shot worse (27.3 percent).
52.1
The Houston Rockets had just a 52.1 percent chance of landing a top-four pick in last week’s draft lottery. The Rockets, to their great relief, wound up at No. 2 when they could have fallen all the way to No. 18 had they dropped out of the top four — courtesy of the pick-swap provisions of their 2019 trade with Oklahoma City to acquire Russell Westbrook for Chris Paul. Those provisions would have enabled the Thunder to stick Houston with Miami’s first-round pick, since they also control the Heat’s No. 18 selection through a separate trade. Oklahoma City prioritized rest and injury recovery for its best players after a 20-27 start and finished the season on a 2-23 slide, then ended up slipping to No. 6 in a draft many scouts say features a clear-cut top four. Cleveland (No. 3) and Toronto (No. 4) jumped into the top four to knock the Thunder down.
2
Charlotte and New Orleans are the only two franchises left in the 30-team N.B.A. that have yet to reach the conference finals after the Los Angeles Clippers did so this year in their 51st season in Los Angeles, San Diego and Buffalo. The Atlanta Hawks, in the conference finals for just the second time in the club’s Atlanta history, also originated in Buffalo. The Hawks spent less than 40 days of their inaugural season in what was known as the National Basketball League in 1946-47 as the Buffalo Bisons.
6
Paul George’s 41 points in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals established a career playoff high. Yet in the Clippers’ Game 4 home loss, George shot 0 for 6 from the floor in the fourth quarter on field-goal attempts that either could have tied the game or given his team the lead. Utah’s Donovan Mitchell, who endured a similar 0-for-6 finish in a 2019 playoff loss to Houston, is the only other player to do so since the 1997 playoffs, according to Stathead. Digitized play-by-play data for all games in an N.B.A. season was introduced in 1996-97.
36-17
The Hawks lost home-court advantage in the Eastern Conference finals by dropping Game 3 at home to Milwaukee, but Coach Nate McMillan still sports a 36-17 record (playoffs included) since replacing Lloyd Pierce on March 1. McMillan steered fifth-seeded Atlanta to upsets of the No. 4 Knicks and No. 1 Philadelphia in the first two rounds of the playoffs after failing to win a series in four consecutive trips to the playoffs with Indiana. Three of McMillan’s four Pacers teams got swept in Round 1.

What Happened To Us?
Chapter 6: Don’t wait until it’s too late
A/N: I edited this myself, so please be nice haha
Read this story on AO3
"Stop!" Jughead looks over to see Betty in a cheerleading uniform. That's a new fantasy. He blinks and she is covered in blood. Her green eyes are filled with tears. Her honey blonde hair now has streaks of red.
Jughead shakes his continuing nightmare out of his head. He doesn't know if it is some sort of memory or his mind playing tricks on him. He needs some answers.
Jughead sat down and tapped his fingers as he waited. He wasn’t sure what exactly he is expecting.
“Well this is a surprise.” Chuck Clayton sits across from Jughead with a smug smile on his face. Jughead is not exactly sure why he is here. He woke up this morning after having the same nightmare for the fourth night in a row and bought a ticket to Greendale. His feet took control once he was dropped off at the Greendale bus station. Jughead eventually found himself standing at the entrance to the Greendale prison.
“Chuck.” Even though Chuck is a minor for a few months, he is being charged as an adult and being placed in adult prison.
“And what do I owe this pleasure?”
“I want answers. I want to know what happened.”
“Why don’t you ask your girlfriend?” Jughead looks at Chuck confused. He is always confused these days.
“Aw that’s right I heard about the memory loss. Why don’t you ask Betty?” Jughead shifts uncomfortably hearing Chuck say Betty’s name.”I am sure she has a lot to say.” Chuck smiles and Jughead feels sick.”Has she not told you?”
“Leave her out of this.” Jughead lashes out.
“Ooh I hit a nerve. So I guess there is a lot that Betty Cooper has not updated you about. She walks around like she is an angel sent from above, but she is just the devil in a pink cardigan. Did she tell you about the time she locked me in a pool house, drugged me, and handcuffed me to the hot tub? She turned up the temperature attempting to boil me alive before going on a crazy rant pretending to be her sister. And how could I forget the outfit she wore that night when she dressed up like a hooker. Black bra, black skirt, black wig, black high heels, and slutty red lipstick. The things I would have done to that crazy bitch.” Jughead gets out of his seat and Chuck laughs.
“You are so full of shit Chuck.”
“Did she also tell you about the time she slapped me at your party?” His party? Jughead laughs at the thought. He would never have a party. He knows that Jughead
“I would never have a party! You need to up your lying game Chuck.”
“You’ll soon find out Jughead that I am one of the few people in this town that won’t lie to you.” Jughead's blood boils when he sees Chuck's evil smirk.
“Well this was a waste of time.” Jughead motions over to the guard. He doesn’t care about getting details anymore. Jughead cannot spend anymore time being in the same room with Chuck.
Jughead walks out of the meeting area not even looking back. Chuck and Betty have always hated each other, but he could never imagine Betty going as far as Chuck says. He would do anything to hurt others. Chuck Clayton is sick. Jughead officially hates his guts. Chuck Clayton has always been a horrible person. He has bullied him throughout the years alongside Reggie Mantle. Ever since Jughead’s first day of school Chuck has gone out of his way to make him feel bad. He remembers his first day of school like it was yesterday.
He had lost his two front teeth the day before. His mom gave him some change to buy lunch. Jughead could only afford some mini corn dogs and a carton of milk. He had not talked to any of the kids in his class yet, so he sat down Chuck Clayton a first grader walks over with his friend Jason Blossom. They took Jughead's milk and drank it right in front of him. Chuck grabbed Jughead's apple and began to eat it, "Hey that is not very nice." Jughead looked up to see a blonde girl from his kindergarten class. She was wearing a pink dress with polka dots. She had a nice pink ribbon in her ponytail with perfect curls.
"Go away little girl."
"I'll tell Ms. Baker."
"Tattletale." Chuck teases trying to get Betty to back off, but she stands her ground. Betty looks over at their kindergarten teacher. "See you later Beanie boy." Chuck and Jason retreated. Jughead expected Betty to leave as well."Can I sit with you?" She asks politely. Jughead looks at the blonde girl intimidated. "Sure." Jughead tries to play it cool. "I am Betty." She smiles at him revealing her smile with her two front teeth missing. "Jughead." He smiles back. "Hey we both lost our teeth." Betty says before giggling."I lost mine two days ago." "I lost mine last night." Betty waves over at two people to join them. Two boys join them at the table. Jughead recognized one of the boys. Archie. Their dads work together and they have play dates sometimes. Jughead had hoped that they would be in the same class, but Archie is in the other kindergarten class. "Jughead." Archie says excitedly.
"I am Kevin." The other boy says. Jughead smiles at the two boys.
Betty takes her milk out of her pink lunch box and hands it to Jughead.
"No thank you." Jughead says shyly.
"I don't like milk. My mom makes me drink it." Jughead takes the milk from Betty.
"Thanks Betty." Jughead smiles at the pretty blonde girl. She is the nicest person he had ever met in his young life. Suddenly school seemed a little less horrible.
Jughead didn't realize it for a long time, but the first day of Kindergarten was not only the day Chuck Clayton made Jughead his permanent bullying target, but the day that he fell in love with Betty Cooper.
Jughead can get over the bullying without hating Chuck, but he cannot get over the way he talked about Betty.
“Jughead?” Jughead turns around to see Sheriff Keller filling out paperwork.”What are you doing here?”
“I don't know," Jughead answers honestly.
“Visting Chuck isn’t such a good idea. Not with an upcoming trial. You can get all of the answers there. Speaking of the trial. Chuck’s lawyers are really pushing a case here. We need to look through your phone again."
“I thought you guys still had it.”
“I gave it to Betty Cooper a few weeks ago.” Betty has his phone?
“Oh ya right. Sorry brain damage messing with my head again. I left it at home. I’ll drop it by this week before the trial.”
Jughead walks out of the Greendale police station more confused than when he walked in.
_______________________________________________________________________
“Betty hello. Earth to Elizabeth Cooper.” Betty snaps out of her thoughts and looks back at Kevin.”Are you okay?”
“Ya sorry, continue.” Kevin is telling Betty his exciting California stories. Kevin looks at her hesitantly than continues.
“You have barely touched your milkshake in the last hour. It’s probably melted by now.” Betty looks down at her almost melted full milkshake.
“I want to hear more.” Betty tries her best to change the subject. She bashes her eyelashes at Kevin knowing that will do the trick.
Betty California men are everything. There are so many attractive gay men. It was the jackpot. If dad knew what I got up to in California, he would lock me up alongside FP Jones in the Sheriff's station and never let me out.”
“Maybe we should move to California.” Betty suggests. She is half joking. Right now anywhere but Riverdale sounds nice.
“California is the American Dream. We have to go! I used my cousin’s friend’s brother’s fake ID to go out to beach bars. So many hot straight and gay men. Having sex on the beach trumps sweet water river for sure.”
“So you’re over Joaquin officially?” Betty asks carefully.
“I guess so. Finding out that the first relationship that I have ever had was a lie is a hard thing to get over.” Betty is unconvinced. She had witnessed the two together several times. She saw the way that Joaquin looked at Kevin. It may have started out as fake, but anyone could see that Joaquin liked Kevin.
“I don’t believe that. Joaquin had genuine feelings. Nobody is that good of a liar.”
“Typical Betty Cooper always wanting to see the best in people.”
“How did you cope after Joaquin left?”
“We all have our ways of coping with broken relationships. I distracted myself for a bit because we found Jason’s murderer and then Fred got shot. I was in denial for a while, thinking that he would come back. It has been months and I still haven't heard anything from him since he got on that bus. I guess I started to heal when I finally started to mourn the end of my relationship. And then I decided to use the old fashioned method of getting over someone by getting under someone. Which I have done a lot of.”
“Does it work?”
“It’ll never really work without closure. I will never get answers about why he did what he did. I will never know if he had any genuine feelings or not. It drives me nuts that I will never know.”
“I am sorry Kev.”
“Hooking up with people is just a temporary solution, but it's nice to not to feel alone sometimes." "Kev you're never alone." Betty grabs Kevin's hand. "Thanks Betty. Okay seriously you have not touched your whipped cream or your strawberry. There is something seriously wrong with you. Spill.”
“It’s nothing Kevin, really.”
“Boy problems?" Betty avoids eye contact."Right on the money." Kevin is so happy with himself for guessing correctly what is wrong with Betty. "I know a lot about boy issues. You can talk about it you know.”
“Kevin we’re here to talk about your trip-”
“And you. I have been gone through this traumatic time. You have spent years listening to me vent about boys. It is time that I return the favor. So tell me about your boy issues. I may even good you some okay advice. All though I am offended that your man has been hiding those heart throb locks underneath that old beanie. He went from boy to daddy so quick without the beanie.”
“The beanie is apart of him. And yes Jughead does have very nice hair,” Betty blushes."He isn't my man. He doesn't even know that he dated me." Betty says quietly. She feels extremely insecure about the entire situation. She is insecure about Jughead's feelings and about how people are going to judge her for the way she has handled everything.
“What’s going on with Jughead?”
“I almost told him the truth the other day.”
“Really?”
“I feel guilty all of the time. I feel guilty that he is in the hospital at the hands of my enemy. Chuck would have never gone for Jughead with a knife if it weren’t for me. He hates me more than anything.”
“The stupid civil war is why Jughead got attacked. Not you Betty.”
“No part of you thinks Chuck went for Jughead because of me?” Betty asks.
“You can’t blame yourself for that piece of shit Betty.”
“I can’t stop feeling guilty. I have had nightmares every night. I failed my math exam last week. My face is breaking out like crazy, which is making my mom even crazier than normal. I am continuously reminded that my boyfriend doesn’t remember that he loves me and I have yet to tell him that he is my boyfriend.”
“Is there a reason you haven’t told him?”
“I am so scared of his reaction. I know how selfish that sound. I’ll admit it, I’m selfish. I don’t know if I can handle his rejection.”
“How do you know he’ll reject you?” Betty opens her mouth, but then contemplates Kevin’s question.”He fell in love with you before. Why can’t he do it again?”
“This isn’t the same Jug.”
“It’s Jughead from ten months ago. Not Jughead from Mars. Not all of his memories are gone. He is the same Jughead. The same Jughead that fell in love with you the first time. Betty you can’t keep torturing yourself over the ‘what if’. As nail biting as all of this angst is, I can’t stand to see you suffering like this Betty. Don’t turn the ship around just because you’ve encountered some rough waters.”
“Did you just make that up?”
“Did that saying make any sense?”
“Ya I guess.”
“I am writing that down.” Kevin pulls up his notes on his phones of ‘Awesome quotes by Kevin Keller’.
“You two are my OTP. Don’t tell Veronica. She and Archiekins wish they could hold that honor.”
“Kevin he might be moving away with a new foster family. I could lose him forever.”
“Don’t wait until it’s too late. Hey that rhymes! I am on a roll with the quotes.” Betty laughs. She wonders why she doesn't confide in Kevin more often.
“Ya you’re right. I need to grow a pair and tell him.”
“Well what are you waiting for? Go get your man!”
“Have I ever told you how amazing you are Kevin Keller?”
“Not enough.” Betty smiles as she runs over to Pop Tate. She hands him some money.
“This is for Kevin and I plus the tip.”
“Thank you Betty.”
Betty nervously races off to Archie’s house.
Jughead walks into the Andrews household after a long bus ride home. Veronica and Archie are cuddled up on the couch watching cartoons.”Where have you been?” Archie asks. Jughead is surprised that Archie noticed his absence. He has been spending the all of his time the past couple of days with Veronica.
“Therapy.” Jughead lies. He knows Archie has no idea what his schedule is. That lie would never get past Betty. He went to therapy yesterday.
“Mom called she wants to meet with us on Friday about your foster family situation.” "Okay cool." Jughead feels uneasy knowing that there is a decision of where he is going to live. He did get stabbed while living in Riverdale. Betty's words are playing in the back of his head. "Riverdale is your home." He hears her sweet voice say.
Jughead goes into the kitchen and opens the fridge. There is leftover homemade pizza that Betty made for them the other night. She had made his favorite kind of pizza with sausage, pepperoni, ham, and bacon.
Jughead puts the pizza in the microwave. He sits on the counter. Jughead can’t ignore Chuck Clayton’s smug voice in the back of his head. Betty would never drug anyone, not even Chuck Clayton. He also never thought she would lie to him, but she has been keeping his phone. Why would she hide his phone from him? What is she hiding? How much is she hiding for him? Is she hiding things from her for not genuine reasons? For the first time in his life Jughead begins to questions Betty Cooper's intentions.
The microwave beeps and Jughead pulls the pizza out of the microwave. Jughead notices that all of the dishes are now piled up in the sink. He places the pizza onto a paper towel.
Jughead walks back out into the living room taking a bite into the pizza.
“Do you want to watch cartoons with us Jughead?” Veronica offers.
“No thanks. I think I am going to the trailer.” Archie sits up.
“Do you think it’s a good idea to be going to the Southside?” Jughead can tell Archie is anxious. Jughead appreciates people worrying, but it is starting to get annoying. He is the same person. Yes he got stabbed, but he is not a child. He lived the majority of his life doing things by himself before the incident and he has no problem continuing his loner lifestyle.
“My therapist suggested that I go to the trailer. It may bring back some memories.” Jughead decides he needs to some peace and quiet to think about how he is going to handle what he found out today.
“Hearing you say you have a therapist is so weird." Veronica says. "I don't really have a choice. It is part of my recovery. Anyway I can get my memory back I am going to do it." "Do you want us to come with you?” Archie asks.
“No that’s okay don’t want to take you away from Spongebob.” Jughead would rather not be a third wheel for a little bit.
“Be safe.”
“I will." Jughead stops remembering something Chuck had said to him earlier. "Oh and Archie, do I have a girlfriend?” Both Veronica and Archie turn to Jughead away from the tv towards Jughead at the same time.
“That’s not really my place to say.” Archie answers. Veronica kicks him.”Ow.”
“You just gave it away with your dumb answer.” Veronica thinks she is only speaking loud enough for her boyfriend to hear.
“So I do have a girlfriend?” Jughead asks confused.
“I don’t know. You are a mysterious guy Jug. You hardly tell me anything.” Jughead is unconvinced by his answer.
“I’ll catch you guys later.”
Jughead heads out and begins walking towards the Southside. Jughead scans his brain as hard as he can trying to figure out who could possibly be his girlfriend. Chuck told him to “ask his girlfriend.” When Jughead joked about having a girlfriend in the hospital, Veronica was very quick to react. But how could he have a girlfriend? He has never been interested in anyone besides Betty. There is no way that it could be Betty. He knew he would never have had the courage to tell her.
Jughead spots the familiar Sunnyside sign. His eyes are on his dad's trailer when he feels a hand on his shoulder.”Jughead.” Jughead turns around to see a girl who lives in the trailer park. Toni Topaz. She lives a few trailers over from his dad's. Jughead can't remember the last time he has spoken to Toni?
“Hi Toni.”
“It's so good to see you are out of the hospital. Everyone was so worried." She puts her hand on Jughead's cheek and he feels uncomfortable.
“I am okay now." That is far from the truth. Jughead removes Toni's hand from his check. "They say that you lost your memory." "Ya." "That's why you don't remember?" She smiles at him. "Remember what?" "Your girlfriend." Jughead looks at the girl completely shocked. Taking advantage of his shocked state, Toni connects their lips. Jughead is so shocked and confused that he does not know how react. He feels nothing as this girl kisses him. There is no way that she is his girlfriend. His instinct is telling him that is totally wrong. It takes him longer than it should to push her away. ”You are not my girlfriend and it is not okay to mess with somebody who has memory loss." "But I am your girlfriend." "No! My girlfriend would have visited me in the hospital at least once. I don’t know what kind of sick game this is, but I am not playing it,”
“Jughead I am sorry. It is just I have always liked you. You always liked that other girl and when I found out what happened to you-”
“You thought you could trick me into liking you?” Jughead rolls his eyes.”Bye Toni.”
Jughead grabs the spare key from underneath the garden gnome and opens the trailer frustrated.
Betty walks into the Andrews house. She stopped knocking after the hundredth time Fred told her that she didn’t have to knock anymore when Betty was thirteen.
Veronica and Archie are cuddled up on the couch.”Don’t you two look cozy.”
“Betty. Did you come to join us for some afternoon cartoons?” Veronica asks excitedly.
“I came to see Jughead.” Betty says firmly.
“You just missed him. He went to the trailer park.”
“Alone? You let him go alone? What the hell Archie?”
“He didn’t want us to go with him.”
“There is a civil war going on with real life casualties Archie. Jughead almost died. You let a boy with brain damage and no memory of the people who hurt him go to the Southside alone.”
“I am sorry you’re right it was stupid of me to let him go by himself. Why do you want to see him anyways?”
“I am telling him the truth.” Archie looks at Betty concerned.”Not about you Archie. Not Everything is about you. I am telling him about our relationship.”
“Betty that is huge.” Veronica says excitedly.
“I need to go now before I change my mind.”
Betty runs quickly to Jughead’s. She prepares a speech in her head on the way to the trailer park."Hey Jughead one more thing I left out about this year, we began dating. No that doesn't sound right. I'm your girlfriend. You're my boyfriend. Surprised. Ugh that sounds so bad. I love you Jughead and you love me. No that is too pushy. Hey Jughead sorry I forgot to mention this, but we have been together since the fall." She realizes she sounds like a crazy person rambling to herself on the street. She can't help it, Jughead makes her crazy sometimes.
Betty stops at the entrance to gather her final thoughts. Betty pulls Jughead’s phone out of her pocket. No more guilt and secrets about them.
Betty confidently begins walking through the trailer park when she stops in her tracks. Her nails on her left hand begin digging into her palm. Betty wishes she could dig deeper. Her entire body goes numb and she can’t believe her eyes. Standing in front of her is Jughead Jones kissing a Southside girl.
Betty’s heart shatters. Jughead’s phone falls out of Betty’s hands. She quickly reaches down to pick it up. Fresh blood pouring out of her left palm.
Betty quickly turns around and sprints out of the trailer park. She sprints as fast as she can as the tears flow down her face. She runs out her anger and frustration.
Betty stops running out of exhaustion a few blocks later. She is right next to Pop’s.
“Betty?” She sees Kevin exit the diner.”What’s wrong?”
A heartbroken Betty begins hyperventilating.
“Betty breathe. Calm down. Let’s sit down inside.” Betty shakes her hand.
“Just go Kevin I’m fine.”
“Absolutely not.”
“Kevin you can’t see me like this.” Kevin walks Betty over to a bench across the street.
“Please sit Betty.” Betty sits down.”What happened?” Kevin asks as he sits down beside her.
“I was too late.”
A/N: I began writing this chapter yesterday and half of it got deleted, so I had to start the chapter over from scratch this morning. This is a sad chapter I know. So much angst! I live for writing angst you guys! Betty was so close to telling him! I hope my lovely readers enjoy this chapter :)! Thanks again for the love and support <3!

💎 • Bridging the gap between the sounds of 90’s hip hop and the sounds of hip hop today using a couple little sub genres we’ve come to love with labels like “alternative hip hop”, “jazz fusion”, “PBR&B or Hipster Hop”, “Experimental R&B”, “Future Soul” and “Conscious Rhythm & Poetry” and then at the end I just got super stoned and put some random experimental rock and deep house shit lol
