I think this is my favorite rehair I've ever done. Even if all the white drove me insane

Got some new hair from shimmerlocks (not sponsored). “Surprise”, or as I like to call it, “Highlighter hair”, because it looks like a highlighter threw up. This shit glows under blue and black lights too it’s wonderful. grabbed it to retail this baby ribbon (surprise is just there because i wanted 2 ponies in the shot lol)

I had been wanting to do a Rapunzel-inspired rehair for a while and couldn’t decide which pony to do it on until I ran across this Locket with a hair cut and some highlighter marks for a low price on eBay.
I had a feeling I was going to absolutely hate the tinsel after curling so I installed it in a way that would make it relatively easy to remove if I wanted to, and I’m glad I did.
For her tail, all of the tinsel was a separate micro-tail that was very easy to pull out without affecting the hair. I did have to pluck the strands from her mane one by one, though I left the tinsel in her braid.
Much better.

I'm auctioning this adorable re-rooted 1980s My Little Pony named Milky Way. I've replaced her short white hair with long lilac and pink colored nylon hair and iridescent tinsel. If you don't already collect these cuties, you are missing out! Take a look!

I realized I've been forgetting to share my customs here oops
Here's my alt rehair of Autumn Crisp. When I got her, she was suffering from a serious case of mare pattern baldness. I didn't want her to be a Daisyjo clone, so when I was buying new hair for her, I decided to go with my own color choices. She uses a blend of Pumpkin, Garnet, Peachy, and Butter from The Dollyverse.

I have a lot of doll hair for reroots all of a sudden, and needed a better way to store them.
It comes in plastic bags that are difficult to manage when there are a lot of them. They’re squidgey and slide around. It can be a pain.
Now, I am TERRIBLE at understanding measurements. They don’t translate into dimensions for me (numbers are bad) and I can’t visualize the actual size of something at all.
I went looking for a container for all of these bags of doll hair and found this ArtBin.
https://amzn.to/3MXKHU9
ArtBin is a brand that’s been around for some time and tend to be decent containers and organizers.
More importantly, the pictures show the bin with folded fat quarters in it.
I know what a folded fat quarter looks like in real life, and that gave me a decent understanding of what size these bins actually would be.
It’s a good, sturdy bin. I like it a lot. Putting in the dividers took a little fiddling because there was some flash that needed trimmed and there are grooves you have to make sure to get the dividers into for everything to go together smoothly.
I have both tinsel from the doll hair shop that’s on cards in the same little bags, and this tinsel I got super cheap on long cards in long bags.
https://amzn.to/3N2SrUO
These I had to lay across the top because there’s no room for them elsewhere. They do distort the lid a little when it’s closed.
The bags of hair I’ve laid in on their sides so I can see the colors better as opposed to the labels. If I know what label I want, then I know what color and which bin to look in. But if I’m just brainstorming being able to see the hair is better.
I HAVE added an index card to each bag of hair to give it a little more stability and am not sure how well this would be working out otherwise.
But this is easy to see the colors, pick one out, put it back, pick another etc. without bags of hair flying in all directions.
They do still slide a bit when I pick the box up and stand it on it’s end, but they’ve been going right back into where they were when the box is laid down again. This has made storing the hair MUCH more convenient. My hair stash doesn’t take up as much floor space as it used to or can be slipped onto a shelf or under the workstation.
Very nice.
Here’s a link for the bin again, so you don’t have to scroll back up: https://amzn.to/3MXKHU9
And the tinsel:

A note about the tinsel: It is NOT the same tinsel as was used on vintage My Little Pony as it has a holographic chip appearance to it and MLP tinsel was solid color. But it IS a large volume of tinsel and looks great on custom projects, assuming you don’t hate tinsel.
It is also an excellent replacement for Cleo deNile’s tinsel if you want to give her hair some more stable sparkle than the default which likes to fall apart.

August’s customs are very late but worth the wait! Meet Sunnie and Raine, a very colorful duo:)
I have been wanting to rehair dolls with rainbow hair ever since I saw the rainbow packs on Shimmerlock’s site. I couldn’t decide whether to get the traditional or the pastel but then was like, oh wait, I can do BOTH!
Sunnie was a Moondreamers Crystal Starr doll with badly faded hair; I had originally bought her to make MLP Danny but her head is out of scale so she ended back in the bait box until now. Shimmerlocks was out of the smaller hank set of rainbow hair so I ordered the trial sizes in the colors I wanted.
It gave me just enough to root three rows in the front and two rows in the back; as you can see that was the perfect amount , any more and her pony tail would have been too thick!
So pretty!! I made her dress that had matching pastel flowers and I found a pair of pale blue jelly Kelly doll shoes for her, perfect! I opted not to repaint her face except for painting over her star eyeshines to be round.
Raine was a MLP Big Brother bait I had bought ages ago and had come prepainted red and was bald. I had originally planned on making a G1 Big Macintosh but then decided not to and she languished in the bait box for several years.
I’m so glad I didn’t make Big Mac as I adore Raine! Raine sports white feathering and silver shoes (silver lining, get it?).
She also has a large blaze down her face. I had wanted to do a blaze, then was going to do freckles like the other Big Bros but then went back to the blaze. Her eyes are purple to go with the first stripe of her hair.
Rainbow hair <3<3<3
All in all I am so happy they came together so well! It feels nice customizing ponies again (I used to but haven’t made one in years) and I loved make a doll and animal set. The hair from Shimmerlocks is AMAZING and the colors are so rich, love it!!!

💖🌈Rarity Restoration🌈💖
She had: Cut hair, rusty body
Progress photos below the cut (some of the rust photos look gross so theres ur warning)
Popped off her head. yup thats rust.
Went ahead and removed the tail and mane since she was getting a full rehair (those purple marks are to remember where the hair changed colors)
She ended up getting 2 different oxiclean baths on two different nights because i wasnt happy with how dirty she still was after the first one (admittedly the first one i pussied out and stopped the bath early because the rust in her body was like. rising to the top of the water in gross chunks 🤢)
I have posted the colors I picked before but here they are again: Heart Throb 2.o, Cantaloupe, Applejack, Medley, Firefly and Cosmic Wind (As well as holographic silver tinsel)
I didnt have a rarity to compare her to, but I knew that the model i had had special, long hair. I have a few of these g3 ponies, so i used daffidazey as my comparison this time (for the record: the tail ended up being 7.5 inches and the mane ended up being 7 inches)
put the tail in (may or may not have cried during it, g3s are so hard for me to work with their plastic is so hard and their tail holes so small 😭)
Hairing the colors, one by one… Then I glued the hair inside the head
Gently combed the hair out and trimmed to the length I wanted
Put the pony back together!
At this point the only thing left to do was style her ^^ (really difficult… when you add extra hair into the plugs to make it nice and thick its really nice on short hair ponies. but oh my god the long hair is so hard to work with lol)
