Oh,can I give my hot take since we're discussing the MK1 girls? Honestly, a solid quarter to a third of the roster could have been DLC, considering how little they do or contribute to the story. Reiko? DLC. Nitara? Package her with a couple Jennifer's Body skins and you have a Halloween DLC for the girlies. Havik? DLC. Kronika is literally just there to chat shit.
Also,there's certain storylines that if they really explored them, could get uncomfortable real quick. Nitara's tower ending comes to mind, considering that it pretty much implies that she becomes a human trafficker outright,which........honestly could lead to some interesting moral questions for her if handled correctly. But I don't trust NRS to do that. Ashrah's another one that they have to tread real light with.
Yeah tbh a few people in the cast kinda aren't doing much, but I low-key do get the vibe that NRS has a lot of love for the Deadly Alliance era characters, which is why we're seeing a bunch of them in MK1. I don't know if I think they should've been DLC bc we don't know what the DLC schedule for MK1 looks like but Sonya should've been in the main cast at launch. That was a huge miss.
Tbh, I don't see Nitara getting expanded on sadly due to the poor reception of her character, but Ashrah might--given her connection to Sareena and Syzoth, and that she essentially got upgraded to a champion of Earthrealm. I doubt they'll handle any continuation of her story with any nuance; given Johnny says that Sareena is Bi-Han's future bestie, and Ashrah expresses worry that Sareena is turning back to darkness, and that Bi-Han is redeemable, what they are probably going to do is have Ashrah and Sareena play a role in redeeming Bi-Han and stopping the Cyber initiative, and Sareena being 'purified' through the same means as Ashrah. Which is boring, but they're going for black and white and I don't see that changing course. But I'd be happy to be wrong and see them make use of the potential they have.

What did you think of the live-action yu yu hakusho I confess that when I finished watching the first episode I had good expectations for the next ones but from episode 3 onwards they lost their hand.
To be honest, I loved it! They skipped all the introductory parts and got right down to the point. It's a rough adaptation of the original, but the action scenes are amazing! I felt the love of everyone involved towards Togashi's work. There were more highs than lows.
*CONTAINS SPOILERS*
Togashi wanted to draw a battle shounen, but since it was his first battle series, his editor advised him to take it easy at first. The first chapters were stand-alone adventures of Yusuke's spirit helping others. They weren't even adapted into the anime. Although I love those early stories, I don't think they are crucial to the story. I missed the comedy aspects though, that's what makes Yu Yu Hakusho so appealing. Yusuke's resurrection was a bit rushed, but I loved that "Hohoemi no Bakudan" (anime opening song) was playing on the truck's radio. I also didn't mind a 17-year old Yusuke or Kurama.
Even though they gave a more actual look to the characters, like Botan wearing peep-toes heels and Kuwabara with a dyed blonde hair instead of his iconic pompadour, we can still feel an atmosphere from the 90s in the scenery.
The stealing of the Artifacts of Darkness was so well adapted. Yusuke VS Gouki was an impressive fight. Masaru finally got to thank Yusuke, something that I missed in the original. Kurama telling his story to Yusuke at the hospital was genial as well. I think the motive that driven Hiei to steal the kouma sword in the live action suited him better. Togashi only made Hiei a main character because his editor told him so. That evil Hiei who kidnapped Keiko is so different from the Hiei who showed up later. Making Elder Toguro do the dirty job was more interesting! I'm just curious what they are going to do about Shigure in case of a second or third season. They probably have something in mind already!
Genkai's Tournament/Training was there in a different way. I don't care that much about Rando, but I missed all the pain the original Yusuke went thought to master the reiko hadouken technique. It was a little disappointing to see him absorbing the spirit wave with just an "okay". But, I'm glad they included some iconic moments of his training, like when he's upside-down balancing himself up with only his index finger on a needle.
Probably, what I missed the most was The Saint Beasts Arc. It was during this arc that the four guys got to know each other better and form a bond. Keiko and Botan also worked together and became friends. Considering the budget, I'm aware the live action didn't have time and money to produce it, they had to focus on the first big villain of Yu Hakusho, Younger Toguro.
Filming a whole Dark Tournament would be too hard, expensive, and maybe a little tiring to watch. Although the Rescue Yukina Arc and the Dark Tournament Saga were re-written, all elements from the original series were there:
They showed both Tarukane's mansion and The Hanging Neck Island;
Sakyo needed money to open a big hole to the Demon World. Goro Inagaki also slayed as Sakyo;
Younger Toguro wanted the same thing, he became too strong for the Human World;
Elder Toguro was insanely crazy. Probably, the best villain of Kenichi Takito's career;
A bunch of rich old dudes from BBC gambling;
Tarukane making Yukina cry to sell her hiruseki stones;
The random guy trying to help Yukina. Instead of killing her bird friends, Elder Toguro killed him.
There wasn't Botan and Keiko helping each other, but instead Keiko and Yukina teaming up, and I really enjoyed it;
Kuwabara falling in love at first sight, and asking Yukina to not hate all humans;
Best scenes and lines from Hiei VS Zeru and Kurama VS Roto were incorporated in the fights against Bui and Karasu;
Youko Kurama appeared! Jun Shison nailed it!
In the original, only Kuwabara didn't know about Genkai's death, I liked that in the live action Koenma kept it a secret from Yusuke as well. Elder Toguro making a puppet of Genkai out of his body was amazing!
Younger Toguro "killing" Kuwabara;
The memorable 100% Toguro VS Yusuke's spirit gun;
Sakyo telling the original plan was to make Toguro lose on purpose, so he could collect money from the rich. Also, betting his own life in front of Koenma;
It was interesting that Sakyo told his story and how he had bet his own life a few times to Tarukane instead of Toguro. I felt the Tarukane from the live action was a little bit more human. The actor did a pretty good job. Genkai's dead by the hands of Younger Toguro happened too quick and was disappointing, but they made up for that by showing their amazing goodbye scene in the Spirit World. Young Meiko Kaji was dazzling.
In the first episode, Koenma had sadness in his voice when he mentioned the former spirit detective. There was also that post-credits scene with Elder Toguro. I really hope there will be a second season. I think the Black Chapter Saga is much easier and more interesting to adapt.
I think those who have already read the manga or watched the anime, felt the love all the cast and staff have for Togashi's work. The new generation will probably buy the manga and watch the anime. The live action will surely bring new fans to the Yu Yu Hakusho franchise!
Netflix announced a new One Piece anime by Wit, made in partnership with Toei Animation. I'm also hoping that with the huge success of the live action, some anime studio or even Studio Pierrot will produce a remake of the Yu Yu Hakusho anime too.
By the way, I recommend watching the "Making of Yu Yu Hakusho". The main cast talks about all the trial-and-error process during the shoot. Action Director Takahito Ouchi also shares behind-the-scenes stories. They gave their blood to shoot this series! RESPECT!

MORTAL KOMBAT 1 Thoughts Pt1.
[❌❌contains SPOILERS❌❌]
I've been waiting for this for such a long time and we finally got it. Now with MK1 being practically a full reboot, A LOT of changes are to follow. So here are my current thoughts in order how the story went:
Chapter 1
Kung Lao and Raiden being practically brothers is my fave thing in the world.
Half of the MK1 boys are full on babygirl and honestly? I love that for them. Except for Shang Tsung because that feels very much illegal.
That last scene with Madam Bo felt like a fcking fever dream.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN KUAI LIANG IS SCORPION? WHAT THE FCK DO YOU MEAN?? WHERE IS HANZO?? That feels very wrong. Only Hanzo is allowed to say "gET OVER HERE" that is HIS iconic line. I'm not sure if I like this change.
I KNEW the boys were pulling their punches. I KNEW IT. The entire fight felt so awkward and staged. For a short moment I legit thought NRS pushed down on their fighting animation.
Chapter 2
Sooo...Johnny is a failed Actor now? What happened to the glamour? That's not very Cage behavior.
Okay but I love love LOVED Liu Kang literally showing up in front at Johnny's Door all serious, and Johnny being Johnny.
What made NRS choose to paint Kenshi as a former Yakuza?? I mean the idea isn't too bad, because it would make sense for him to be searching for Sento to free his family. But I still prefer his revenge timeline more. Hell, even him being a cocky arse warrior trying to fight anyone and everyone made more sense.
Chapter 3
Idk why but I half expected Kano to show up in this chapter. The trailers made it look like he was at the Wu Shi academy
Liu Kang practically pathed the way for human Raiden to be champion and it shows. I'd like to think it's out of respect for former God Raiden from before, who practically raised Liu Kang and was a father figure to him.
General Shao is so fine, I can't. He was hot before, but now he's so....so..... y'know?
Liu Kang really wanted to give Kitana the loving Fam she deserved qwq
Everyone is so mean to Li Mei :(( I feel so bad for her
Reiko tho😳😳😳
Raiden has a cruuush~ Raiden has a cruuush~ unexpected but cute. I wonder what Liu Kang thinks about this.
Chapter 4
Johnny and Sonya are forever iconic...but Johnny and Kenshi? I didn't know I needed it until I had it. Their bickering is GOLD. They're so married.
Wealthy merchant Baraka???
Props to Quan Chis new look. He looks like a clown escaped asylum. Very uncanny.
Are they...are they trying to redeem Shang Tsung? No,that would be way too obvious. Plus that intro scene with Krusty Kronika makes it super sus.
Called it.
Chapter 5
KENSHIS BLINDFOLD WAS PART OF JOHNNYS ARMOR. Y'all NRS knew what they were doing. I am eating this up
I adore Reptiles human form. Very baby girl, very cute.
So if Tarkat is transmitted via physical contact, wouldn't that mean that the guys would have it too when they fought the prisoners in this chapter? You even see Johnny react in Chapter 4 to that fact when Baraka told them. Could it be that it's not infectious since they're clones/experiments?
So help me out here... Baraka is strong enough to rip the cages open that seem to be made of the same metal as their cell door, but failed to open that? Plot, I know, but c'mon.
REPTILE IS EVEN MORE BABY OMGGGGG. Pls let me hold him,, poor baby boy,, his sadness is literally tugging at my heart strings.
I love how honorable Baraka is. This is great character improvement. For a beast (visually) to be showing mercy. It's like he accepts who he is now but still holds onto that human (edenian) side of him.
Stopping here for tonight, but will continue tomorrow. So far it's going great but I have a hard time remembering which of some stories in this timeline are kept the same as from the previous timeline.
I'm still pleasantly overwhelmed by the amount if babygirls.

"He's Me" (Migi & Dali Thought)
This blog isn't complete without an explanation of one of the most iconic lines in the series:
Tumblr media
When I was first reading the manga, I already had enough reasons to have Dali as my favorite character, and this moment of realization and development just piled on another! It was quite poetic, Dali being the twin more motivated with revenge and the one who rejected Eiji ended up being the one to go save him.
And it makes sense too, because Dali was always one of the most emotionally perceptive characters in the story, much more than Migi, so he would definitely be able to sense the similarities between himself and Eiji, shown in the following panels.
Tumblr media
I really don't know why they switched these in the anime, because it just takes away meaning from Dali's statement, such as using the scene with Eiji groping Migi's butt.
Anyway, these panels tell us:
Eiji had a role as the perfect child that he forced himself to fulfill for the sake of his mother, and to this end he closed himself off to others. This was just like how the twins (especially Dali) closed themselves off to others in seeking revenge for their mother. In a sense, Eiji was also another "Hitori".
Eiji's bedwetting again shows that despite his best efforts in maintaining his perfect image, he really wasn't perfect, and he faced a lot of pressure because of it. Like Eiji, Dali was also trying to maintain his image not just as a perfect child to the Sonoyamas, but also as the perfect older brother to Migi, and his similar bedwetting also shows the pressure he faced because of it.
Most importantly, Dali's experience with Eiji while disguised as Sali just showed how lonely Eiji was and of course how lonely Dali was as well. Sure, they were doing what they did for the sake of others. EIji wanted to be perfect to earn Reiko's affection, just as Dali did in working hard to be the prefect child and avenge his mother to earn affection from others, especially Migi. Yet, they ultimately isolated themselves, and they wanted all along was intimacy.
Furthermore, another crucial part that was not shown here was the fact that Eiji was about to end his own life, not unlike how Dali volunteered himself to die at Reiko's hands. It was a combination of guilt combined with the despair of having no one left that drove Eiji over the edge. Similarly, Dali chose to die not just because he wanted to protect Migi, but because he felt guilt over what he's done to Migi and because he felt that Migi had left him behind forever.
With all this in mind, it's no wonder Dali saw himself in Eiji and wanted to give him a chance to break out of his loneliness, a chance that Eiji has never been given.

I apparently don’t promote myself enough, hi my name is Sol and I write Sub-Zero Bros x Reader inserts, I have an absolute boatload on my master list as well as up on my AO3 I write Bi-Han almost solely with a female reader, though there are exceptions for a few with a male or gender neutral reader and Kuai Liang with an equal amount of male and female readers. I primarily write smut! Occasionally I will do fluff though and while my requests aren’t open quite yet they will be soon. If you don’t see something you are dying for, bribe me :3: I love fan made things, fanart of Bi-Han or me and Bi-Han being my favorite, little Bi-Han doodles, icons, mood boards, fic for fic etc. I’m far more enthusiastic about writing something when there’s something in it for me. I’m not saying you have to and requests will of course be free as always, I’m just saying if you don’t want to wait until I open requests then you can commission me for any of the above mentioned goodies. I guess you could also hit up my Ko-Fi but no one does lol When I do open requests I will be expanding to not only the entire Lin Kuei but also Reiko, Rain and Reptile. I promise I will make a proper post with the kharacters I will write for and what I will and won’t write.

Ringu
Tumblr media
Ringu, by Hideo Nakata is an excellent horror film and is considered a classic even to this day. Watching it, not only did I notice how well the frightening scenes were constructed, but I also was shocked by the number of more down-to-earth scenes. For example, there were some genuinely touching scenes between Reiko and her family. For these reasons, I greatly enjoyed watching the film.
Ringu was so successful as a film that its impact is still very much tangible in pop culture to this day. From modern horror to video games and parodies, Ringu has become a cultural icon. The popularity of the film had spawned an entire franchise with films being made in both America and Japan. In addition, many films reference or parody the iconic scenes from the film, such as Scary Movie 3 or The Grudge. Ringu is also mentioned in games as well, such as Silent Hill 3 and Ghost Hunter.
I would go as far as to give Ringu credit for the entire trend of Analog horror that is so prominent in the horror scene today. Although Analog horror didn’t become a genre or trend until the late 2000s, I believe that Ringu laid the groundwork for what later became the genre in many ways. Analog horror often relies heavily on the idea of ‘cursed’ or corrupted media. This aligns with Ringu’s use of the tape throughout the film as a haunted piece of media. In addition, both use the VHS style in an attempt to enhance the horror aspect of the media. Finally, Ringu’s usage of distorted faces aligns with trends in the modern analog horror scene as well.
The film’s showcasing of characters who are struggling with their own mortality and how they choose to spend their last days on earth was a fascinating aspect of the film. By showing Reiko Asakawa’s choice to spend more time with her family (until her son gets cursed as well) in contrast to Ryuji Takayama’s relentless pursuit for any opportunity to survive, the film shows the different ways people cope with their limited mortality and displays the acceptance or denial of ‘fate’. Another fascinating aspect of the film is how the curse functions itself. The curse’s only ‘cure’ being to infect someone else with it creates a cyclical effect as the curse is constantly and intentionally spread from person to person. This, in essence, is a cycle of violence. This cycle of violence is represented by the name of the film itself, being Ringu. The film also questions how far you would go to save your own or someone else’s life, a topic which has become more widespread in recent years. In the end, the main character makes the choice to kill her father to save her son. This leaves the question: would you do the same?

i must know,,,,, i can guess most of the costumes the gang's wearing in your halloween post but i must know what they're all wearing it's going to kill me
hehe ok fine. here goes. full list:

okuyasu is patrick (and dumber)
yukako is squidward (something something love deluxe and tentacles)
koichi is sandy (the most classically beautiful)
jotaro is mr krabs (he was tricked into joining the gang with the promise that it was marine biology related) jolyne is almost too old to want to go trick-or-treating, but agreed to go as pearl krabs just this once bc her cool grunkle convinced her it would be funny. shes at home in bed by now though
shigechi is a ninja turtle (bc josuke told him turtles were scary once. he is just barely old enough to drink bc i arbitrarily set this in 2005. hes being very responsible and drinking lots of water)
hazamada is sasuke (self explanatory)
yuya and his weed smoking gfs are abba (from the photo with the iconic cat dresses)
yuya is björn
akemi is benny
yoshie is agnetha
reiko is anni-frid
terunosuke is billy the puppet (from saw)

and keicho refused to wear a costume and showed up in a tshirt, a hoodie and shorts, unknowingly dressed as sans undertale. this is the only anachronism i allowed myself (bc its 2005) because it was too funny not to do.
as mentioned in replies rohan tried and failed to include himself in the spongebob clique as plankton bc nobody invited him or told him where the party was so he is lost in the dark freezing outside somewhere in the middle of the night. he is found passed out in a bush the next morning with pneumonia
