I am saying this as a Muslim (so dont dare pulling Islamophobia card on me) Islamic Conquests were as painful and bloody as Christian ones... this religion didn't spread peacefully and destroyed cultures/religions in the same way some of you need to get that as well.

Boy I WANT to make a joke about evangelicals not being allowed to do anything more fun than eating saltines and thinking about Jesus but it's just. Genuinely very sad to me how many people are brainwashed into thinking that if they ever engage in anything 'secular', if they have even ONE part of their life that does not directly revolve around their religion, that it suddenly means they're doomed for eternal punishment. Genuinely distressing how many people don't connect the dots of 'a loving and forgiving God would not punish you eternally for finding enjoyment in things not specifically approved by your church leaders', because they're taught from such a young age that to question authority will land you in the exact same lake of fire. It's...heartbreaking and infuriating how much of American Protestantism has just become full on christofascist death cults, and that's just....normal.

I feel like I'm losing my fucking mind.
while the absolute horror continues to bombard palestine - the nonstop bombings, the dead bodies in the street and trapped under rubble those living can no longer get to, the restriction of health care, newborn babies left to die, starvation and thirst, literal sewage in the streets spreading disease, all of this in gaza and even in the west bank, the increased bombings there and raids - daily, meanwhile, here in canada, we apparently have nothing fucking better to do then arrest people for using pro-palestine chants under the guise of it being hate motivated.

I wish this was a fucking joke, but no. a protestor in calgary was arrested for using 'from the river to the sea, palestine will be free.' apparently the cops stopped by to 'inform' the protestors what chants were allowed and what were ~no no's~ which included 'from the river to the sea', and when a protestor used it anyway (because it's NOT FUCKING HATE SPEECH) they arrested him. for calling for the freedom of people under an occupation.
this is canada, supposedly one of the most free places to be (built atop the blood of indigenous people but anyways). but with pro-israel propaganda and the weaponizing of anti-semitism being repeated by our media and leaders, shit like this happens.
someone tell me right now where in the phrase 'from the river to the sea, palestine will be free' there is a call for an extermination of jewish people. look me in the fucking eyes and try to find where in that call for freedom it shows hatred for jews. this is fucking pathetic. this is a call for freedom. this is a call for liberation of a people who've been oppressed and assaulted for years, since before both my 60+ parents were born. this is a call for them to be able to walk freely within their own homes, within their own land, to be able to control their own lives. liberation for their safety and for their children, from the constant risk of arrest, assault and raids by the israeli army.
this is about ending an occupation, not the jewish people & their way of life.
many new sites like cbc and global reported on this as well as others; the global article also interviewed a jewish man, who claimed the chant was anti-semitic. it mentioned that he was the president of an organization called 'Federation CJA' - one google search of their website, and wouldn't you fucking know it, they're in partnership with israel, from 'birthright' trips to allowing you to send goddamn postcards to their poor, sad soldiers who're exhausted from bombing innocent civilians all day.
so while we sit here in safety, humming over think-pieces about whether a demand from an exhausted people to finally let them be free secretly means slaughtering every person of another marginalized group in site, the death toll in gaza has gone above 11,000.
of all the fucking absurd things canadians could be talking about right now, this has to take the first-place blue ribbon.
frankly, what this does mean at least, is one thing - when the occupier starts crying because the people they've trampled on for years demanded they stop & it hurt their feelings, it means they're scared. it means that the marches and support are working. when the oppressors start weaponizing language used for liberation and claim it's a cry to hang them from the gallows, then they're getting desperate. it's a reminder to us all to keep pushing and fight for a liberated palestine.
from the river to the sea, palestine will be free
(I s2g if any zionists come in my notes trying to claim some bs that is just the regurgitated rhetoric of the propaganda you've swallowed it's on fucking site I will block you).

I recently spent my lunch break talking to my coworkers about Amish and Mennonites and Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses while they looked at me with eyes like flying saucers, and I couldn't stop talking ! and really wanted to share everything I know about these high demand religions !
And sometimes I would try to stop talking but then my coworkers would keep asking questions and I thought I could die of happiness from the opportunity to talk more about this.
Is it what people who have special interests feel like when they can info dump about them ? Because wow pure liquid fire in my veins it felt so good

Capitalism and the Cult of the Self
Don't know why I bothered with a title, it's a little overkill since this is a half-formed thought.
First, let's take a little look at what came before capitalism so we have some point of comparison. In feudal Europe, social relations to the means of production were primarily binding ties between landowners (the largest of which were nobility) and peasants/serfs. In this context, a redacted line from All Things Bright and Beautiful makes sense:
The rich man in his castle, The poor man at his gate, God made them, high or lowly, And ordered their estate.
With religious institutions being a primary source of education and socially held beliefs - in Europe at least.
Taking Marx's assertion that religion is the opium of the masses there is definitely some element of truth in this; however, I would assert that this cannot be taken to be universally true and we must analyse our own contexts just as Marx analysed his, rather than universalising his claim. The truth of this statement was twofold: first, it justified the hierarchy in the world through divine mandate and the divine right of kings; second, it reassured working people that any injustice felt about the state of things would be rectified at St Peter's pearly gates, that justice would ultimately be done.
What I would like to assert here is that the same functions of hierarchy justification and the reassurance of justice are taken on by the self. We are indoctrinated into a specific relationship with the self and a specific interrelation between selves - between different people. Meritocracy is one name we give to this but it also encompasses notions of personal responsibility and it also ties into eugenics, white supremacy, and other ideologies which attempt to define 'the right kind of person.' For example, people who have properly bought into this indoctrination will worship people like Elon Musk because their worldly success is evidence of their merit. We see a lot of this when discussing causes of poverty and attempts to justify worldly hierarchies - who gets what, who has what, etc. Regardless of what qualities people actually possess, they are ascribed particular qualities, particular aspects of the self, because the self, the individual, is seen as the cause of social hierarchies - better people, better places in the hierarchy.
Incels offer an excellent example of this. They construct a hierarchy, the sexual/dating marketplace, and position themselves on this hierarchy with sexual/dating market value based on qualities of the self; appearances, wealth, status, IQ, race, etc.. Black pill ideology is an extension of this in the same way that eugenics is an extension of meritocracy. The same assertion that a person's value is set/limited at birth translates to the black pill/sigma ideology of giving up because you will never be Chad, you can't 'looksmax' hard enough. It is not, in my opinion, incidental that incels are often some of the most ardent defenders of capitalism.
And of course, religious institutions have turned towards this with the prosperity gospel and the growing emphasis on a personal relationship with G-d.
In case it is not clear, I consider this state of things to be terrible. Where I am from this cult of the self has turned many people against disabled people and people on benefits in general, anyone who needs support. This has been deliberately cultivated by media sensationalism around benefits fraud and callous attempts to explain rising inequality by people who have never experienced true strife. Cultic pursuit of self-interest focuses people like horse-blinkers on improving their own individual liberation through entering the petit-bourgeoise, property ownership, and wealth accumulation. It is the myth that this is possible, works to scale, and leads to a just society which forms an ideological barrier against ideas of collective liberation.
Unfortunately, assclowns exist; this means that I have to make a point of saying that this cult of self does not provide an argument for a queerphobic, genderqueer-phobic, and ableist (specifically regarding neurodivergence and mental health) worldview. Language aside, these forms of being predate capitalism. There have always been queer people, there have always been genderqueer people, there have always been neurodivergent people, and people have always suffered from difficulties with their mental health - though this last one is definitely made worse in the current state of things. These terms are not about being a special snowflake or about further individualising yourself and buying in. These terms are collective terms, and group terms to help unite people around a common experience. My transness is not the same as someone else's transness but we can unite around some common worldly experiences - oppression being only one of these. Even the aspect of these things which help with understanding the self comes from this sharing of experience, a collective understanding of being: not an individualistic one.
Now for some speculation. In terms of ideological indoctrination - education, culture, policy, ownership, etc. - a socialist/communist system would instead produce socially held beliefs which account for the interconnectedness of our lives, the socialness of our being, and the progress we make together. At least, that's the hope. We see the roots of this already, it pops up between the cracks in the pavement in mutual aid, in some spiritual beliefs, trade union movements, tenants unions, songs like the Internationale, and historically in movements like the Black Panther Party's Watch the Watchman program.
I think this will help us answer some deeper philosophical questions, such as those raised by absurdism. If the only serious question of philosophy is the question of suicide then what prevents people from pursuing that option? For me, it is quite often the impact it would have on the people around me, family and friends. People can sometimes carry on because of their pets. Look at the prior answers given to this question in philosophy: religion; creation of your own meaning (individualism); there isn't a reason to live but carry on anyway (philosophical wankery). If we can learn to live for one another as much as we live for ourselves, maybe we will finally arrive at a non-egocentric, non-religious, satisfying answer to the question. Even when I cannot find a reason to live for myself, I can find a reason to live for someone else.
Overall, my point is that there is a capitalist cult of the self and that this is particular to capitalism. This cult manifests in a variety of ways, some worse than others.

Something interesting I've been noticing is that on average I tend to spend roughly the same amount of time on any given AI piece - especially a "serious" one - as I would on a similarly detailed manual illustration...but the standard deviation on that average is MUCH higher with AI.
Sometimes luck is on my side and I get something that Resonates and works for what I want it to be very very quickly!
Other times...those cats don't want to get herded no matter what I do.
