Religion And Goal Posts
I find it amusing and sometimes even frustrating how religion has a tendency to move the goal post whenever it comes to explaining something to us. Like nature, for example.
Religion: You hear that sound? That's thunder! Thunder occurs when god strikes his hammer... Science: Actually, we found out that the sound of thunder is caused by the lightning... Religion: Oh yeah? Well, do you know what causes lightning? It is when god... Science: Actually, we learned that lightning is created when the negatively charged tiny particles of ice... Religion: Oh yeah? Well, do you know where those ice come from and who created those ice? It is god, when he... Science: Actually, we discovered that the ice is formed when the warm moisture... Religion: Oh yeah? Well, do you know...
And it goes on and on and on... If you're familiar with the "god of the gaps" then you probably know what I mean. As long as science doesn't have an answer [for/to something], religion's answer is and will always be god: it's because god did it, it's because god created it, god made it happen, etc.

Correct me if I am wrong but did ancient civilizations like Egypt, Greece, Rome, Persia were more developed than medieval times? Like there was a balance between religion and science and these two coexisted more easily than later times??
I think it somehow comes down to the differences between polytheism and monotheism. I think polytheists, exactly because they were polytheists, they were on average more open to alternative or additional interpretations of spirituality, nature and the world, the study of which leads to the evolution of the sciences. Polytheist religions also tend to be more "amoral": as both pure and malevolent deities are to be respected, if not worshipped. This creates a relative freedom regarding how a person can choose to act and evolve.
Monotheism is by nature more absolute because it is more vulnerable. When you have one God, it takes doubt for only one god for your entire religion to fall apart. That's why monotheist gospels are more precise and intolerant to alternative interpretations, even within the same religion. If scientists start spreading that nature works differently than the very specific way it is desribed to work like according to the One God, this is a huge threat that the monotheist religion can't work as easily around as a polytheist religion which might be like "okay maybe there is this another deity that wasn't revealed to us up to this point" or "okay maybe these two gods have given birth to a new god who explains all this". Obviously I am oversimplifying things but on average polytheist societies might have been better for people to inquire and search for answers.
Monotheism has a more solid and well defined mentality regarding morality - in theory, this is not a bad thing. But because, as I mentioned, monotheism is more vulnerable, the leaders of monotheist religions - who are flawed humans like everyone else, with the addition of power - gatekeep those concepts of morality in ways that are not even described in gospels, oppressing and limiting people so that the vulnerable religion will not be threatened and, by extension, their even more vulnerable powerful rank will also not be threatened. That's why monotheist medieval societies considered any attempt at an alternative interpretation of the world as a major threat to their very existence and in order to fight this, they put big obstacles at the progress of the sciences and the free expression in the arts.
These, of course, are the general conditions. There have been conflicts between polytheists or oppression from polytheists to monotheists (i.e Romans against early Christians, also because they felt threatened by the rapidly rising new religion) and there have been fields of human activity which flourished or kept flourishing during Middle Ages (agricultural innovations, technological advances, architecture and construction, printing revolution etc).

Science vs Religion as as distraction from nuance
science and religion do not preclude one another, we can do our best to measure what we can observe but we cannot know the true nature of the world.
Either side using their position to have a sense of superiority over the other is harmful. Both are institutional powers that have control and real effects on our life, sure, science could be objective in theory but in practice it's man making decisions of what to research, what to value, it's often way messier than that, or at worst weaponized to assert people's own inherent merit. It's highly meritocratic which is at odds with the objective-ness of it: if it were objective, it'd be highly collaborative and not about the ego and immortalization of being the person making the big discovery.
The same person who killed pluto claims we have a ninth planet we have yet to observe, the same guy who said "light works how we know it to and I made a study repeating this I am very smart" says "we can accurately predict who can make nobel prize material based off how often they're cited, and as such we should use this to determine who to permit into programs despite the fact that popular science by big names will always get cited more often than smaller studies that may actually say something meaningful" (yes this is as racist and self-serving as it sounds).
There's so much unethical practices in both, go look at the comment sections of a video by Dr. Fatima, watch her videos, tbh, because if there's one thing we need more of in science is people listening to the experiences of marginalized people in those communities. Granted yes, I'm guilty of centering one person's examples that match my own view of the world, I will admit I'm biased, but I'm biased on the side that looks to acknowledge the faults of the world so we can make something better.
I seriously cannot recommend her content enough, while she doesn't talk much about faith, she does break down the idea of scientific objectivity and other issues that cloud the field of science, and it's been so enlightening to watch.

Sources: Dr. Fatima, lived experience, tired of people fucking arguing about shit that only serves to create greater divides between people, i made it up, it came to me in a dream once, etc. (If I had done real research and not just apply my collective learning online I'd cite shit but for now you get this all because I am a garbage fuck.)

ok my funny thought is if joseph fink is stuck IN night vale, and hes currently WRITING the podcast…. he is technically the one creating the story in show.. like all i can think about is joseph fink being the reason why john peters kept interrupting cecils show to further a plot — like “no no, no talking abt the comet we’re gonna focus on the snake god plot today back space back space back space” even tho cecil has always ‘written’ the narrative so to speak

The Science Cult: Cosmology, Ethics, Legitimation
Science has become an ideological toolkit for acclimatising people to their own subordination and bring about the un-free, mind-controlled societies of the coming brown age. It fulfills the functions of religion and, like all religions, began in a spirit of inquiry into the cosmos only to evolve into a massive dogma taught as truth.
First, science™ provides an explanation of the universe and humanity's role in it. Second, it dictates how people ought to think and act, under the threat of apocalypse (eg. "climate change™", pandemic etc). Third, it identifies global problems that legitimise the existence of global elites who claim to be solving those problems through ever more intrusive controls over people's lives (eg. carbon taxes, mandates etc)

Q: Atheists … what if you die and you find out it is all real? God, the Bible, Jesus, death on a cross, resurrection … all of it. What then? ... ...                    A: Rip God's throat out with my teeth and drink his spinal fluid.

Yeah, I'm gonna regret this later, but here's my 2 cents.
Abortion is murder.
Science agrees that life begins when the egg attaches to the cell wall. The ten weeks, twelve weeks, twenty weeks arguments, those are arbitrary lines. We aren't drawing lines at where life does or does not begin. You either think that life begins in the womb in early pregnancy, or you believe it begins when the baby takes its first few breaths of air. It's very simple but nobody likes it. I don't even like it.
Of COURSE termination needs to be legal when there is medical cause. That shouldn't even be a question. If there's an ectopic pregnancy or a dead infant in a live womb, something has to be done. This is obvious and undebatable.
But abortion is just killing a person. It just is. And yes I know; rape babies, underdeveloped or disabled babies, etc etc etc. but I think they still deserve to live. It sucks. It hurts. But there are ugly realities to life and sometimes all we can do is hope that they don't happen to us and offer support when it does happen to others. But killing a person isn't an option.
Do some reading into the medical experts who testified and advised during Roe v Wade. Look at their opinions and when they think life begins. I'm not citing this stuff because I'm tired and it makes me sad and you should be doing your own reading anyway. And let me remind you that if you're only reading things you agree with, you're just as bad as those ultra conservative pro lifers who get comfy in their who chamber. If you're not uncomfortable you aren't doing it right.
There isn't an easy answer or one that will make anyone happy. Sometimes this fucked up world is like that. But last I checked murder is still illegal.

What's The Distinction Between Faith And Spirituality?
The Holy Spirit has summoned us to remember that God has called us by our names and known us from our mothers’ wombs. Drugs, whether or not authorized or illicit, are after all one other route to altered consciousness. In their swift modification of perception and cognition they are proof of the pudding that mind and mind are one. Many spiritual traditions have made and continue to make use of medication to induce transcendental states, and I see no a priori ethical downside with this, as lengthy as no important well being or social issues end result. Don't expect to ever calm your thinking to the purpose of silence, because it won't occur, but neither is that the purpose. The level is solely to "be" and to check yourself directly by way of mindfulness. Count. Now that you have the final thought, we'll add somewhat exercise with which to enhance your concentration and mindfulness which is in a position to gradually permit you to use your mindfulness in harder everyday conditions. Zen12 Reviews "cures" us by allowing us to touch the ground of our being and notice our "wholeness" once again. Rather, dad and mom should search the literature for the Sesame Street and Zoom of secular spirituality, should it exist. And as for venues, these with planetariums nearby would possibly examine the possibilities for creating a participatory naturalistic service, with sound and lighting effects. Finding out what works and doesn’t work in all of this, is, in fact, a matter of experimentation. An explicitly naturalistic spiritual apply must evoke the religious response within the cognitive context of naturalism. Traditional religion has linked this response to sacred liturgies, with all their supernatural connotations, utilizing music, theater, incense, architecture and different ritual elements that generate feelings of connection and surprise. Spirituality usually involves the idea in the next type of inteligence or Consciousness running the universe, as nicely as life after demise. It exists to satisfy the deeper human thirst for which means, peace, mystery, and reality. The drive for spirituality is inherent in our nature, but the way the spiritual path unfolds is unique to every individual. Additionally, the Pagan neighborhood has recently launched a press release on the ecological crisis. The that means of spirituality has developed and expanded over time, and varied connotations may be discovered alongside each other. The time period was used inside early Christianity to discuss with a life oriented toward the Holy Spirit and broadened in the course of the Late Middle Ages to incorporate psychological features of life. In trendy occasions, the term each spread to other religious traditions and broadened to check with a wider range of expertise, including a spread of esoteric traditions and religious traditions. Modern usages tend to check with a subjective experience of a sacred dimension and the "deepest values and meanings by which individuals live", typically in a context separate from organized religious institutions. This may involve perception in a supernatural realm past the ordinarily observable world, personal development, a quest for an final or sacred meaning, non secular expertise, or an encounter with one's own "internal dimension." Bringing faith into the ecological disaster is controversial because of the divide between faith and science. Ecospirituality is ready to acknowledge science, and work in tandem with religion to border the setting as a sacred entity in want of safety. Ecospirituality grew to become popularized because of a necessity for a reconceptualization of the human relationship with the environment. Terms similar to environmental crisis, ecological crisis, climate change, global warming all refer to an ongoing international problem that must be addressed. Generally the ecological disaster is referring to the destruction of the earth's ecosystem. What this encompasses is a highly controversial debate in scientific and political spheres.
