Why should you watch 'The Expanse'? This scene alone:
So my raggedy ass wrote a novel length longfic with Star Wars and The Expanse, in a somewhat pithy attempt to get some folks interested in this amazing show. I even threw in some quick one-shot pieces too. *
But you know what? This battle scene, from one of the first episodes, should sell you on the show itself rather then my story of Ryan-from-Accounting banging Camina Drummer's giggly nerd cousin and the shenanigans that followed.
Strap in, mi beratnas, it's gonna get wild.
Donnager Battle (youtube.com)
The Martian ship, The Donnager, is sleek, futuristic, and its crew is in neat uniforms. But their cadence is calm, easy, even as torpedoes are firing at them. It's like they're going for a grocery run to Trader Joe's, they know what they're doing.
We get to see all different parts of the massive ship, from the brig to the bridge, to say nothing of the crisp graphics and efficient weapons systems. The Martian Navy knows WTF it's doing in a way that is grounded and believable.
How CALM Captain Yao is! Strolling around with her coffee and checking in on her crew as they're firing off missiles and bullets. It's a Tuesday for her. Love seeing this.
The different lightening and the reactions of the captured Canturbury crew let us immediately know they're form different places, with former Martian pilot Alex Kamal knowing EXACTLY what's going on when he hears missiles firing.
THE SUBDUED SOUNDS IN SPACE.
Quick shot of the magboots, keeping the crew member on their feet even as they're in battle.
Effective use of storytelling with an effective use of accurate engineering. We know shit's hitting the ceiling because power is being diverted, and suddenly, gravity is lost, and everyone is starting to float.
The Donnager is a major Martian warship...but that doesn't mean the hulls are impenetrable. Flying debris can take someone out in seconds, seen at 4:45.
SEATBELTS SAVING THE DAY BECAUSE PHYSICS.
Jim Holden has the excuse to grab that gun and escape...but he goes for the downed Martian marine instead to check on him and help out. Confirmed, homeboy was going to be the Himbo Hero of this show.
Trust me, folks...it gets even better after this!
*=(I'm not the only person who's written some, check out @eyecandyeoz as well!)

Miller and Holden dying of radiation poisoning on Eros is the best strangers-to-friends road trip movie since Planes Trains and Automobiles

I've been re-cutting the decals for my car over the last six months, and since it's supposed to hit 108F (42 ish?) for the next few days I decided to get up early while it's below 90 and scrape the old ones off, clean the windshield and apply the recuts.
Each of these are hand cut using an xacto knife, each color is cut separately. Then the different vinyls are all lined up and put on the same backing before the transfer tape is laid over it for application.

1x03 "Remember the Cant"
German title is "OPA und die Canterbury" aka "OPA and the Canterbury" aka "Now we're starting to get into the classic poetry of German episode titles".
Love the language lessons cactus guy is taking. And a whole lot of good they did him :-\
Starting to find Miller less unlikable. Still not my favorite.
Major Star Wars vibes this time, the Mars ship would not draw attention in the imperial fleet.
Not sure what those telepathy-but-not-quite-telepathy clear pills are doing. Clearly he still needs them to cooperate. And Holden has an ... interesting family back on Earth. (I keep thinking Holden Caulfield and it's not helpful.) His back story regarding his dismissal from Earthforce (which isn't called that, I know) is also noteworthy. So is medic's.
And it would seem Mars really is being framed :) Though Avasarala is burning through friends at impressive speed.
Quote of the episode: "We had a garden, and we paved it."
Yeah :-\

shout out to people who's family isnt entirely bad or entirely good, but something in between and you dont know how to feel about them. you feel angry but you also feel guilty, because you know they genuinely love and care about you, but sometimes they show it in a way you know its not okay. your feelings are valid, your anger and sadness and grief are valid, and you dont have to prove this to no one. bigger shout out to those with memory issues who know something isnt right but can't recall all of the bad events, only the feelings, which only increases the guilt.

being a manager sucks balls half the time but the cashier kids im in charge of trust me enough to dick around in front of me so ive been keeping a running list of the shit they say that makes me laugh randomly:
-"guys, is it cheating if you play fortnite with your ex" [4 seperate others, immediately]: "YES"
-"there must be like… infinite sentences"
-"bro what bro what the fuck bro what's that mean bro why'd you say that bro what" <distraught response to a girl randomly greeting him with 'hey there big boy' in an old timey transatlantic news reporter accent

Hello, Video Game Youtuber. Despite being a "lore expert," you appear to have not noticed that the main character of the game you love uses they/them pronouns. You have 30 minutes to speedrun editing the correct pronouns into all your videos or I will detonate the bombs planted inside your gaming PC, killing you instantly
