Especially if it's not an instinct. If Doc explodes because he's startled it's a LOT better than if he ignites himself (not that either experience is pleasant, he'd rather not have either thank you very much.)

Ren didn't know that. He had no idea, he pulled out the lighter to be funny and-

"it's ok" Doc assures him. He'd kept it to himself to avoid people using it against him. Ren couldn't know.

That doesn't stop Ren from feeling awful and wanting to cuddle Doc to make up for it

Ren is at Doc's beck and call for several months following it - much to Doc's annoyance. He loves Ren. He really does. Ren doesn't need to feel guilty about it, he couldn't know any better because Doc didn't say anything. Doc's pretty sure most people on the server assume he can't blow up, since he works hard to keep level-headed.

Ren isn't going to give up until he feels like he's adequately paid his debts either way, so Doc is going to make the most of all the cuddles he gets out of it.

Sophie’s frown changed from being annoyed at him, to being annoyed in general. “It was fine,” she shrugged, giving him her juicebox; she’d never been a fan of the taste, and it meant Jamie could get two boxes every day. “All the other kids kept staring at me…” 

Jamie let out a sigh. “Me too. Just ignore them for now. They’ll get bored eventually and leave us alone.”

Just to prove him wrong, a thud came from across the table as someone slammed down their tray. 

Flinching, Jamie tried not to cower at the group of kids suddenly towering over them. At the front, like some sort of pack-leader, was a girl in a beanie whose face was doing a strange impression of a creepy sales clerk. 

Jamie inched closer to Sophie. Hopefully, this school did bullying the modern way; through the internet, and not through good old-fashioned roughhousing at the back of the bleachers.

Sometimes I think about how Grian never left the desert.

Or how Scar moved on relatively quickly to the magical mountain, but then didn't leave that place. Didn't, move on, feeling lonelier than ever and Grian missing a version of the scar that is long gone.

How Martyn never left Evo, never left Dogwards either. How he's stuck in two places at the same time.

But Ren moved on. He thinks about Matryn sometimes, but he moved on.

How Tango wants to leave the ranch out of bitterness and bc "that right", "because he should" but isn't able to.

Doc was always the strongest between he and Ren - just objectively, a 7'3 cyborg is going to most likely be stronger than a 5'6 wolf hybrid.

Turns out that Doc's immune system is absolute shit. Ren learns that the hard way

Doc also gets stubborn. Ren would've thought sickness would ease the guy up, but no. He just gets worse and Ren is left to deal with it.

He's discovered the best way to manage it? Be pathetic back. Even Doc isn't immune to the puppy dog eyes.
