id actually plotted out a whole third life au for this movie like months prior and really wanted to write it, so i took it for treebark week and focused it just on these two. it's my fave movie of all time and i obvs had to give it to my fave completely dead team <3

i will admit tho. it did make me back search martyns twitter to see if hes ever posted abt watching this movie. bc i know he likes One Piece and i realized this would bring me into the danger zone (he hasnt ever posted abt it if hes seen it)

First Sign of a House Fire

i love superhero stories for two reasons: plots about secrets and adapting the characters to give them powers. this had smth fun for both of them

yellow rose isn’t super high on my list of priorities to update (i think the oneshot is interesting on its own) but one day,,,, it’s part of the many aus cherri and i have but it’s the longest for sure. the doc for just this au is like 100k words long on its own. at the time i draft this cherri and i are actively writing smth else for it in another tab. theres like 4 offshoots and im obsessed w all of them. we had to make ocs about this one. i’m excited to eventually add more to this series

actually that’s one of the scenes i’m most excited for and most dreading adding. we made a backstory oc and im SO attached to him and im excited to post a thing out there w him but. ough. whatever cringe is dead i’ll get there eventually and brute force my way into attaching you to our funky little robot guy

also love that this fic forced me to be decided on a docv characterization that i have to stick to. he may be a canon guy to martyn’s vtuber lore but he’s my oc now too

Blindsided

pirate au and royal au based on a big secret and also stuffing a guy in a box and it's all stupid dramatic literally what else do you want or need in life

this is my wife. my favorite. my most beloved. blindsided gives me new illnesses and diseases. i have just one scene to write before i can update it and then i can continue unleashing her. god i love this fic the drama of it is SO fun.

the funny thing abt blindsided is i know all the plot chronologically but now how to Present it which is part of why i haven’t continued too much. eventually i will but until then know that one of the scenes im sitting on which has been fully written is one i think about constantly. hopefully when i post it cherri’ll let free the comic she did for it

i actually have the ending of this fic written i just need to get there lmfao. second on my priority list after smop i think

Lamplight AU

so i started this au last year. my wrapped last year said my total was 20k, so that means this year's total is.... 27k!

and… it was just lamplight’s birthday and i did all my appreciation for the fic and its readers then, but god. i love this fic so much and i love you all who have read it and been so kind about it. the amount of popularity it has makes it a bit nerve wracking to work on, but i still really want to see it finished. i hope to see the bulk of it done by this time next year!

Six Sentence Sunday

six sentence sunday is a challenge where i try to post six sentences i wrote that week every sunday, to keep me writing every week of the year! i do it over on my writing blog, @driflew

i did not keep up on my six sentences,,, i had a lot of sunday fencing tournaments. i did for ~33 weeks this year! thats a pretty good amount! i’ll have to be more on top of it next year tho

unpublished work

the last few years i havent included unpublished work, but with the extreme bulk of it, i wanted to note it down. cherri @/cherrifire and i have been writing a lot back and forth at each other in discord dms this year, and i wanted to include those in my count! bc holy fucking shit is there a lot of them

i didn’t include collab pieces, just pieces i wrote alone. i also only included the renchanting aus i share w cherri and scarian aus i share w flowey, nothing else—no unfinished lamplight or other independent pieces or oneshots, no original fiction for class, nothing. i also missed a few u haven’t moved to docs yet. so i’m lowballing by a few. thousands. of words

the total for those is...... 135k words! there is,,, something wrong with me

I have literally been scrolling through the treebark tag since noon. Obviously with breaks for other stuff, but it never reset to the top, so I just kept coming back and continuing to read. In doing so I also spent forty minutes watching the improve demon roleplay they did because it was a clip they had a link to. I’m crying. Renchanting my beloved 😭

Honestly I kinda feel like I’m betraying desert duo, cause they’re my favorites and have been since I’ve been in the fandom, but now I feel like I might love treebark just a little more, and i don’t know how to feel TT

There really are the main five ships in the life series, at least that get a ton of coverage, the most popular ones. Renchanting/treebark, desert duo/scarian, flower husbands, ethubs, and ranchers. And those first three? They’re my babies. I love them to the end of the earth. I would kill for them. They were the OG ships of the life series! Later we got the other two, and some smaller ones, but to me those three will always be the life series main ships (and maybe ranchers, sorry ethubs), and I can’t handle how much I love them!

that makes so much sense actually. i also am making some aus (unrelated) and am wanting to seperate them into little ficlets/art pieces/comics of the pieces that motivate me before even touching on an overarching story but also god is it difficult for me. if thats what works for you as well id definitely say treat it like that (also i would LOVE to see any animatics you do for this)

i personally am mostly watching the hermits doing their hermit crafting (currently watching 18 hermits simultaneously the hyperfixation is b a d) and a couple SOS members, though i plan to watch more of the creators. I've really only seen up to double life (all through grians pov), and i havent even finished that. in my defence, the "its for your secret soulmate" line utterly and completely destroyed me and i have NOT recovered since (i stopped watching his hermitcraft videos after that too until the start of s10).

i have made the resolution to go watch other povs but i need to finish his first rip.

ANYWAY BACK TO THE AU

How often do you think the vflarp games effect their out of game relationships? like obviously it led to them becoming friends and desert duo becoming "moirails" but like. Did double life cause a rift between grian and scar? has rendog being absent from the games had any significance on anything? (i havent watched further so i cant really give too many other examples). Do the winners get anything other than the satisfaction that they alone won?

Yeah! There’s just something so appealing about being able to just jump around & do mini projects that go together rather than one huge one. I’m hoping it’ll hold off the burn out I inevitably get for my AUs. **stares off into the distance thinking about all my mega fics that only ever got three chapters** I get it being hard to break it down though! I hope you’re able to land at a place where you can create as easily & painlessly as possible. ^^

I feel you on the hyperfixation lol. I was doing that hermitblr survey that’s going around & realized that I watch every episode of a third of the server, & some to most episodes of another third. & there’s a handful in the final third that I’ve been meaning to watch, but haven’t gotten to because I’m so busy watching everyone else & thinking about fanworks. This season is just slamming all the good brain chemical buttons!

Tbf, “it’s for your secret soulmate” hit so fucking hard, I do not blame you an ounce for wanting to take a break after that! When you’re ready, I highly recommend Martyn’s 3rd life, it’s so good! I never quite got the Renchanting/Treebark hubbub as someone who’d only seen Grian’s perspective of that season, but after watching Martyn’s… The drama is just. So. Good. Martyn + Ren is just a combo of theatre kid lore nerds & it honestly slaps. Gem’s Secret Life is damn good as well, just ‘cause she got to be a chaos gremlin & we love to see it.

Oh yes, their VLARPing affects IRL relationships all the time! A lot of early relationships developed due to playing 3rd Life & those relationships continued on to influence who went on which ship once they reached adulthood! Obviously, we’ve got Scar & Griann, but also there’s Scohtt & Jimmie who became auspitices, & Wrehnn & Martyn who stick together & eventually become matesprits. Jimmie & Tangoh hit it off after playing Double Life as soulmates & eventually enter a [matespritship? Moiraillegance? Haven’t decided] as well. & of course, my beloved Boat Boys developed their weird whatevership around the same time. (Joel swears they’re pitch. Eethos never comments on it. The truth is somewhere around them being hate friends who are flushed for each other??? But fuck if you’ll ever get either of them to admit it.)

Things were pretty rocky for Scar & Griann after DL; the whole secret soulmate thing was a case of Griann being mildly annoyed with Scar & thinking he could get back at Scar/make Scar jealous. This blew up in his face ~*~spectacularly~*~ & it took quite a bit for things to heal between them. (Mummbo spent a lot of that time being very confused why the vibes on Scar’s ship were so fucking rancid until he managed to get Griann to fess up.)

There definitely is a plot related reason Wrehnn hasn’t been playing, but I’m holding back on finalizing anything until I get more of the out of game plot mapped out. But yes, that definitely affects/is an effect of things in game!

I think, much like in real life, winning is just for the prestige of it. Like, in this AU, the Life series is just a bunch of games they’re playing for the heck of it. Though this does make me think that I need to decide where these games come from, whether it’s a mass market thing or something Griann threw together or if maybe it came from some other outside influence. Hm…

Anyways im a simple person and I adore flower husbands and im on a fh kick as well but I just have this idea that came too when Scott built his lil village and stuff like what if this is set as Scott basically reining over a decent town or somethin like that and Jimmy lives in that village with Lizzie and Joel and whatever and every so often the town gives a sacrifice so vamp Scott leaves them alone for a bit before they do it again and everyone hates it but it is what it is and ofc its time again and the town doesn't say anything and decides that lizzie is the new sacrifice for the vamp thats terrorizing them at the last minute so no one can complain ( ofc Joel and Jimmy complain this won't fly ) but ofc no one gives a shit what they say one life gone to save hundreds more is a better option well feeling like they've run out of options at the last second Jimmy shoves Lizzie outta the carriage box thing...I haven't thought that far ahead what they transport people in yet, but details sndjcjsk anyways he takes her place and he gives a promise of coming back one way or another as he's bein taken away and ofc Jimmy is well Jimmy and he didnt think this far ahead and isn't sure what he's gonna do honestly he's pretty sure he's gonna be dead before he can even form a plan

So by the time he makes it to the castle he's sweating bullets because he's gonna be eaten by a deadly vampire whats he gonna do? Fight? Its a vampire! So when he's finally face to face with this vampire the vampire is just as confused to see him ( "huh, a man? Thats new" "what?" "Never thought you humans would leave the dark ages of giving young women as sacrifices "We're in the dark ages??? You demand sacrifices to not kill the whole town! So whose really the one who still lives in the dark ages, huh?" "Hmm, fair point" ) Jimmy and Scott are very much confused by the whole thing but Scott is curious as to why he's here instead of the usual ones that get stuck with Scott and Jimmy declares that he refuses to let someone he cares about be forced to death just for a bunch of strangers and this catches Scotts attention because "wow I can't tell if you're really brave or fucking stupid i mean who willingly gives themselves up to become vampire chow"

Deciding that this could be fun and something to keep attention for a lil bit before he eventually gets rid of him Scott decides to let Jimmy live in his castle and stuff and then comes the whole thing of gettin to know each other and shit but it's Scott bein Scott so y'know he's definitely getting on Jimmys nerves and teases him as well making sure that he knows whose the one in charge

I haven't thought too far ahead of how they start to connect just yet but im also very interested in angel!sausage and vamp!Scott's interactions so maybe back in the village Lizzie is like "someone please watch over my idiot brother and that he stays safe and come home" and already Scott is on what gods shit list so maybe angel!sausage is assigned as Jimmy's guardian angel and more shenanigans ensues i haven't thought that too far ahead but I needed this outta my head before it causes me to explode ahsjfjfjsjzn
