Hi I really hate to make this post but last night I found Falkor had passed away suddenly. I am going to take him to the vet and see if they can figure out what went wrong. Basically his cremation will cost quite a bit and I'm wondering if anyone would be so kinda as to help a guy out. I know this isn't a super formal post but my brain is fried and I just. Need some help. Please.
Long time no post, things have gotten really hectic the past year and I haven’t been online as much. But my girl is still doing well and getting bigger. Here is a new photo featuring my friends very pale arm and leg.
I saw your post on hognose feeding and how you recommend reptilinks. I tried them with my hoggy, but he refused to eat them after many, MANY attempts... Do you have any other alternatives or ideas for how to supplement a hoggy's diet if they're a picky ester?
Hognose snakes are a bit notorious for teaching their keepers how to keep them. It's a bit of an adventure to figure out with them how best to make them happy and few are exactly alike in their preferences. Keeping corn snakes and rat snakes did nothing to prepare me for hognoses. Similarly, keeping hognoses did nothing to prepare me for other hognoses! It was only when I realized that I was not the driver of the hognose bus and I needed to sit down and listen to what they were telling me that I was able to help them thrive.
My advice for a picky eater is to feed them what they will eat. In the end, protein is protein and the additional cholesterol and fat from a rodent-only diet can be mitigated with smaller prey size or less frequent feeding. If your snake is eating, and their body condition is good, and they're not showing any signs of stress, and you like having them, then call it good enough.
