I rescued a kitten!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found this little guy on the side of the road, badly infected and his eyes were swollen shut. (It was so bad i actually thought he didn’t have eyes at all…)
I’m a delivery driver for work, i felt a strong gut feeling to go down a road that wasn’t even on my route, and that’s when i saw him. I pulled over to check why a kitten was out alone (he looked to only be 6-7 weeks to me? i’m still not sure). I was about to put him in my delivery van with me, but thankfully a woman was walking by and offered to take him to a rescue. I was able to reconnect with her after work and decided to take him in myself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His name is Hermes! we’ve already strongly bonded and he’s been sleeping on my chest almost 24/7 for the past week. I’m so happy i found this little guy.
He’s on several medications and is getting better every day. His eyes have opened up, he’s starting to play and explore, and gaining weight! Just wanted to introduce him here ❤️

Bunnies do not make great Easter Gifts!
Tumblr media
Now in april month with Easter approaching, many people might think of giving their child a present for Easter. It is not unheard of that some parents actually buy real live rabbits as gifts. Though considered an easy pet to keep, in reality rabbits are actually not that easy to care for as some people might have you believe.
Here's a couple of reasons NOT to buy a rabbit this Easter:
1. Rabbits are living beings
Just like every other living creature ever rabbits have needs. Rabbits require daily care no matter if you or your child are in the mood for it. Rabbits have feelings like every other creature ever and cannot be handled recklessly. Sometimes the rabbit does not want to be handled and having a child chase it around can cause serious concerns. Rabbits are very fragile beings that can easily be injured as their bones breaks easily
2. A living being should not be the responsibility of a child
As a parent and an adult, you have 100% responsibility for any pets in your household, rabbits are no different. If you can't take care of a rabbit or do not have any interest in pet rabbits, the rabbit will still need to be taken care of by someone if your child grows tired of it. If the child mistreats the rabbit or it becomes injured or sick you are responsible for what happens to it.
3. Rabbits lives a long time
An average rabbit will live around 8-12 years, taking home a rabbit is a commitment of many years. Just like buying a dog or cat, you have to consider the future, if you plan to study abroad or move within a near future you have to accommodate for your pet bunny.
4. Rabbits are social creatures
Just like dogs and cats, rabbits are social creatures (yes cats are in reality also social animals!) It is recommended to keep rabbits in pairs or small groups because of this. If you can't do that you need to make up for it and hang out with your furry friend many hours per day.
5. Rabbits are not made to sit in a cage all day
For some reason it seems to be normalised to keep rabbits in small cages all day. Considering the size of a rabbit and the size of a normal cage, most of the time it is too small for the rabbit to move around freely. If you look at rabbits in the wild they run, jump, move around all day in unlimited spaces. On an average, rabbits moves 2 miles (3km) each day if given the proper space.
6. "Bunnyproofing" and keeping clean
If you keep your rabbit inside and make the right choice of keeping them free roaming or in big enclosures you have to bunnyproof everything. Rabbits chew on everything - furniture, doors, walls - and most concerning; cables/electrical cords. These curious fellows also like to explore their surroundings and will jump on things, which can be dangerous if they manage to fall from great heights.
Though most bunnies can become somewhat housetrained there are no guaranties. Most rabbits will scatter droppings outside their litterbox despite being housetrained. This is mostly fine since their poop are hard odourless balls that are dry. It is easy to sweep up while cleaning. But you have to be prepared to sweep your floors regularly. It's also easy to get hay everywhere.
Their litterbox needs cleaning and their cage if they have one.
7. Species-specific needs
Just like any other species of animals rabbits have specific needs to be looked after. This is something you need to research beforehand so that you are able to provide for your rabbit: diet, handleing, exercise, appropiate housing, etc.
You also have to know the animal. By knowing the animal I mean that you can't compare them to other pets. Rabbits have different body language. Rabbits are prey animal which is also important to keep in mind.
8. Healthcare
It doesn't matter what animal you get, as an owner you are legally required to look after your animal's health. This means that you have to take the rabbit to the vet when necessary and keep an eye out for unusual behaviour which can be an indication of disease. It's also important to check on your rabbits physical apprearence and keeping their nails trimmed etc.
9. The overpopulation of homeless rabbits
If you happen to grow tired of your rabbit you are still responsible for what happens to it since you chose to take that responsibility the day you got your bunny. Many shelters are overpopulated and not always able to help. Dumping a rabbit in the wild is a death sentence and that blood will be on your hands, you will be directly responsible for whatever suffering that poor rabbit has to go through.
Obviously life sometimes happen and circumstances change, but rabbits are not disposable objects.
10. More planning if you travel
Whether you want to travel countries or just stay at your friend's place for a couple of days you need to have a plan for your rabbit. You can't spontanously take a flight to Paris and leave your bunny for several days. If you're staying at someone's place for thanksgiving, christmas or new year you have to have someone who can care for your rabbit when you're gone or you will have to bring your rabbit with you
———————
To sum up this text - rabbits are complex beings with needs as any other pet. They have specific requirements and it is not always easy to provide for them. They are a commitment of many years and not disposable objects.
You should not get a rabbit for your child as an Easter gift. You should not get your child a rabbit as gift at all. Christmas or birthdays or whichever holiday - animals are not suitable gifts, especially not for children.
This is not to say that rabbits don't make for good pets because they do, they are absolutely amazing fellas and they bring much joy and love to their families. But the distinction here is you should only get a rabbit if you want one yourself, not as a gift to someone else.

Sadly my little grey disabled bunny, called Bunnelby, passed away last week.
He caught a second potentially deadly condition ontop of the ecuniculi, which is also potentially fatal. After a month of medicine, he had improved slightly, but out vets opinion was that his quality of life was too poor. He was barely coping, and although not in much pain, he didn't want to fight anymore.
So this is Tokyo with Ziggy Starbun. Ziggy had been adopted as a companion for Bunnelby and Tokyo, but Bunnelby *hated* Ziggy.
These two are NOT living together yet, they live in separate enclosures in my lounge. But they are hopefully going to be able to live together soon.
We are at the "let's politely avoid each other" stage of bonding. 🤣 Don't panic rabbit savvy people, I've had about 3 decades of bunny experience, and they will NOT be living together until I believe they are safely bonded.

Allow me to tell a story
Tumblr media
The story of our beloved queen, Asami
She was powerful, even with one eye. It is my belief that before we met, she fought countless enemies in the darkest pits of hell (probably some asshole releasing domestic rabbits on the street) until the seers of old (spca) found her. An eye were to be removed, for it was injured. I (an old witch) took her in and taught her the arts of magick (snuggles).
Tumblr media
The council (vet) removed her last eye, in order to seal her powers (hypertension blinded her remaining eye)
But they were mistaken. For once she was blind, she saw more than the common man ever did, sharper than an eagle
Tumblr media
Those who seeked her council described it as being pierced by a sharp sense of forboding. They were not ready to hear her words. Many retaliated, and wanted her dead (family members saying it be cheaper if I euthenised her) for she told the truth and they were not ready for it.
For such, at her side, she would need a companion to eliminate the assasins. She did fought with her new companion to test his worth (bonding rabbits process)
Tumblr media
But at last, he was worthy. And thus our tale bring us to the present, the queen lives on, and so forth, for a millinea to come.
Tumblr media
Long may she reign
