Rat rescue! Hattie was found as a stray and brought to Lincoln County Humane Society. They are over capacity for small animals right now, so they reached out to us for help. Hattie has skin issues and some lumps and bumps, but she seems otherwise healthy. Her foster home reports that she is a bit shy, but she happily accepts snacks, tucks them away in her hidey house and then comes back for more. She’s a sweet and gentle girl. Hattie will have a vet appointment soon to see if we can get her skin cleared up and get the lumps removed. We’ll do our best to get her healthy enough that she can eventually find a forever home. AGE AT ARRIVAL: Carol - approximately 1 year old Marcia, Jan and Cindy - approximately 5 months old ARRIVAL DATE: October 20th, 2020 SPECIES: Rats BREED: Siamese GENDER: Females ADOPTION FEE: $20 per rat NOTES: Carol and her daughters Marcia, Jan and Cindy were surrendered to a Quebec shelter by their owner. They were infested with fleas when they arrived, but they looked otherwise healthy. Shelter staff administered flea medication twice during their time there, so they’re now flea free. We were happy to get these lovely ladies out of the shelter when a foster home opened up, and they made the trip to Ontario through @onelastchancerescue and @freedomdrivers . Big thank you to the awesome volunteers from both organizations! Shortly after their rescue day, this little family had a checkup at the vet and they all got clean bills of health. They’re now ready to find their forever home. We are asking that the rats be adopted as a group, or in pairs. Here’s a note from their foster home: “Carol, Marcia, Jan and Cindy are very friendly rats. They don’t mind being handled as long as you’re gentle when picking them up. Cindy is the smallest, and most active of the family. If their adopter had a big enough cage (they’re currently in a double Critter Nation cage) it would be great if they could be adopted as a family. But in observing them, Cindy and Jan spend a lot of time together, as do Marcia and Carol, so those would be the pairs if an adopter only wanted two. Dr. Stubbs at Spencer Creek Animal Hospital was able to remove the large lump from Hattie’s armpit, and she did great for the surgery. Hattie healed perfectly, and she’s now ready to find her forever home. Here’s a report from Hattie’s foster family: “Hattie is a lovely older girl. She is not a fan of being handled, but if you are patient and go slowly with her, she will eventually be your friend. She loves her daily snacks, and she especially likes carrot and broccoli. One of Hattie’s favourite things to do is to build nests with strips of newspaper. It’s so fun to watch her grab the strips from the pile and carry them all around her cage to decide where she will put her nest this time. She has many hammocks in her cage, but she hasn’t used them much.
