If everyone's criminal charges were dropped and there was no EON what jobs do you think all the Vicious/Vengeful characters would get?
I personally think that Marcella would go back to being a criminal.
Sydney would work in animal rescue. I would say a vet or nurse as well but I'm leaning more to rescue.
Mitch would either be a teacher or do cyber security. I'm leaning more towards teaching though.
Eli. I think Eli would be a private detective but also I think a lot of the criminals he caught work die mysteriously. Whoops?
I also think Victor would work in research. Like, trying to figure out issues in surgery and how the body worked. I do however think Victor needs to be banned from ever being anyone's doctor.

N.S. launching first-in-Canada technology to help improve cancer care, reduce treatment wait times
Nova Scotia is launching a first-in-Canada technology designed to improve cancer care and reduce treatment wait times.
The province says the new technology, called the Oncology Transformation Project (OTP), will modernize the way cancer care is delivered and will bring together its key oncology information systems for the first time, providing more information in real time.
Through the new project, Nova Scotia Health is creating a single access point for cancer patient referrals, triage, and treatment, which is said to lead to streamlined care, reduced wait times, and better outcomes for patients.
“A cancer diagnosis is a frightening and stressful experience for patients and their families,” said Health and Wellness Minister Michelle Thompson in a news release Friday.
“Cancer patients and their families deserve to know that they are receiving the best possible care, delivered on the fastest possible timeline. There is no better way to improve their care, than by giving health-care professionals better tools to do their jobs.”
The OTP includes a patient portal, which will give patients a direct connection to their care teams,and the ability to report symptoms from home.
There will also be real-time communication between the two cancer centres in Halifax and Sydney, N.S., and the province’s eight community oncology sites. The province says this should enhance access to care for people living in rural communities.
“This is the solution for which our cancer care team has been waiting,” said Dr. Gail Tomblin Murphy, the vice president of research at Innovation and Discovery and the chief nurse executive with Nova Scotia Health.
“Our patients and care teams deserve this level of excellence, and it will change the way our patients receive cancer treatment and survivorship care.”
Nova Scotia is the first site in North America to implement the new technology.
It is scheduled to launch this spring, with an accelerated 12-month timeline to fully integrate it into the province's health system.
The province did not release details on the cost of the new project, but says the QEII Foundation is currently fundraising for it as part of its $100 million "We Are Campaign."

Five years prior to Raina’s birth, Im Jae Ho and Sydney Jung had a chance meeting, albeit a dangerous one. Sydney, in a precarious position due to being a spellcaster, made a deal with the devil, so to speak. Unfortunately, Sydney always had her nose where it did not belong, and for once, it got her into trouble. Unaware of lampades, or their intentions, Sydney was temporarily held captive, the fae feeding on her magic. Jae Ho, despite his nature, found the situation terrible-- how could they take a girl who had stumbled into the wrong place at the wrong time captive? He had seen what his family had done to past spellcasters and humans-- fae had no room in their hearts for humans, even ones who cast magic. He would like to think of himself as different.
After Jae Ho and Sydney escaped, they ran as far as they could. Jae Ho knew that he could not return to his family after what he had done, and even though it was nothing close to treason, he had betrayed them. He had put a human life above their own needs, and there’d be no excusing that fact. Eventually, Sydney and Jae Ho fell in love, and as a test to their love, Sydney began allowing Jae Ho to feed on her magic, at least enough to keep him satiated. Several years later, they had welcomed their first and only child into the world during a spring storm.
For the most part, it seemed as though she was normal. It wasn’t until she was five did strange happenings begin to follow Raina around-- it was in moments of extreme anger, fear, or happiness that a pipe would burst, or a kettle full of water would begin to steam. It was apparent that Raina had the gift of water, and though Sydney knew she should encourage her child’s talents, she decided it was a dangerous game to play. So instead, she kept her mouth shut.
When Raina turned fifteen, her father grew sick. What with, it had never been clarified, but she knew that unlike other families, they did not turn to the hospitals. Instead, her mother took care of Jae Ho. Her parents lied to her, explaining that she missed when the nurse would come in and take care of him, how it was always when she was at school. Little did Raina know, her mother was a healing witch and had attempted to revert the sickness that he began to experience, and instead progressed the illness and made it much more deadly than it originally was. One night, Raina woke to the sound of her mother’s cries and hushed, tense whispers. The following morning, Raina learned that her mother had left in the dead of night, too terrified of her father’s condition to stick around. Heartbroken, Raina fell into resolve and poured her attention into caring for her father.
Jae Ho’s sister, Soo Jung had come to Knoxville in order to assist with his illness. Due to the fact that she, too, was a lampade, there was hope between the two adults that she would be better suited to care for him. Unfortunately, his body was too far gone. The magic that Sydney had cast onto him had accelerated the illness, rendering him untreatable. At the age of nineteen, Raina lost her father.
Soo Jung remained in Knoxville, seeing Raina through college-- something that Raina only did in order to find normalcy. It was then that with her mixed emotions, that her powers began to manifest in bigger ways. it was all… strange. Unknown to her, her aunt had begun to distribute texts about magic in places that she would find them. It was then that Raina began to study and research what she was-- a witch.
The call for Soo Jung to return to her family, despite them not knowing where she  had disappeared off to was a hard call to follow-- she had a niece she wanted to ensure got help, but knew that it was too dangerous to stay by her side. The humans in Knoxville would no longer suffice. She needed magic. Soo Jung made it clear to Raina that though they were related by blood, she would need to forge her own path, and that she could no longer be of assistance. In dropping that bombshell, Soo Jung also left whispers behind her of White Crest, a town that perhaps Raina would fare well in, with her own kind. Raina followed her aunt’s advice and took off from Knoxville, just a bit after turning 26.

She is a “water witch” which– the irony is not lost on her, due to not only her name being Raina, but the fact that she was born in the rain due to her parents neglecting to take her to the hospital.
Raina, to this day, still does not know that her father was a lampade, or that her mother was a witch, but she has growing suspicions that something was not right.
Despite having an art degree, Raina opted out for a simple job– one that would help her get to know the locals. Maybe when she’s feeling more like herself she’ll try to take a stab at art, but for now she’s content leading a simple life after all her loss.
Raina has a bit of a southern drawl and is maybe too kind / welcoming for her own good.

Biography
Sydney was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to a teacher father and a nurse mother. From an early age, she developed a strong love and passion for history, literature and art. Working hard in school, she eventually left the city to attend college at Northwestern University in the greater Chicago area. 
While there, she found her true calling in the history department and completed her undergraduate degree there. When she was done, she stayed to go into the graduate program there in history. Sydney completed her Master’s there. Upon graduation she moved to London, England to complete a lifelong dream of living abroad. 
After moving to London, Sydney got a job at the British Museum. While there she met and befriended a guest lecturer who was a renowned author and historian. Sydney told him her hopes of becoming an author herself and he started to mentor her. He got her a job at a publishing company in the city. She worked her way up and soon handed her own draft of a book about Anne Boleyn from a modern feminist perspective really taking apart the notorious reputation she got from the men of history. The book was a hit and Sydney finally found her true calling. 
Sydney wanted to write about Alice Roosevelt and started on her next book. She was in the middle of the research when she got into an argument with her publishing company and she was forced to find a new one. She was soon picked up by one in New York City and was forced to relocate. After three years in London, she bid the city goodbye though she has visited it many times since she left. 
Sydney moved to New York and finished the research and drafts of her new book about Alice Roosevelt. Right after the book was released she met the man who would become her husband. Sydney fell hard and knew he was the one. They got married and within a year, Sydney was pregnant. Darcy Matilda Abbott was born (though she lost the argument of naming her firstly after her history crush Empress Matilda) Sydney felt true love when she held her daughter for the first time in her arms. 
Sydney continued to work on her books and wrote another one on the Gilded Age and the key players in the city of New York City. The book did well again and she felt like she had done well for her name and her passion. Three books under her belt within 9 years and she showed no signs of stopping.
The marriage was good for a while, but then the cracks started to show. Sydney felt like he never valued her intellect or her career. She felt like he wanted her to be some attentive housewife she could never be. Other cracks started to show. It had always been a thorn in his side that she never took his name for the sake of her career. They had grown distant and they argued too much. They started counseling and things showed a small little light of hope. Together, they decided to move to California where she could pursue her latest project of a book on gangster and mob crime in Los Angeles from the 1920′s to the 1940′s and the tie to Hollywood. 
Sadly, their marriage was already on rocky ground and the move did not help things. He still claimed he loved her, but Sydney knew the truth. They argued too much, there wasn’t any love left. The marriage was over. She only felt anger towards him for what she saw as never accepting who she truly was. They started the process of divorce and Sydney moved from their LA home and moved to the Silver Lake area. 
In the process of divorce, they came to the agreement between their lawyers to split custody of Darcy. She was starting the first grade this year and would remain in the same school district she started in though Sydney no longer lived in it. Sydney and her husband shared even custody, shifting Darcy back and forth every two weeks. Though Sydney knew they didn’t get along anymore, they both agreed to be civil for Darcy’s sake. They would go to parent teacher’s meetings, school functions, and any personal events for Darcy together. They wouldn’t argue in front of her and they would co-parent for her sake. 
She’s currently still working on her fourth book and while she currently lives in Oasis Apartments with Darcy, she is looking for a house for them. She’s looking forward to turning a new leaf and being there for her daughter through this rough time as she finalizes the divorce.

Professional Development Training
While learning a new skill, people often neglect to take some training for Professional Development Training. One of the reasons is that they are under the impression that such training can be skipped and they would not be learning anything new.
What is important is that people would rather learn new skills in a short period of time than doing so over the long haul. Unfortunately, this is not always possible so people resort to training in some other way.
Professional Development Training is one of the best ways to ensure that people learn new skills quickly. If employees do not develop and grow, they will not be able to improve their skills in a short time.
They might become adept at their job but they will not make any progress or do things differently than they have in the past. In order to keep improving, training should be undertaken on a regular basis so that people learn new skills regularly.
Training helps people develop into the professionals that they should be. If workers do not develop and grow, they will continue to lag behind their peers.
Once people realize that the only way to get ahead is to take training, they quickly set out to learn more skills. Some even find ways to teach themselves and see great results.

Cape Breton University, striking faculty reach tentative agreement
Striking faculty members at Cape Breton University have reached a tentative agreement with the university.
Members of the Cape Breton University Faculty Association (CBUFA) walked off the job Jan. 27.
CBUFA represents librarians, lab instructors, writing centre advisers, archivists, research chairs and nursing practice educators.
At the time, the union said administration disrespected it at every turn, leading to a large number of labour grievances.
The union was also seeking pay raises to deal with the soaring cost of living and called for changes to how the university deals with the rapidly growing population of international students.
The administration said the union was seeking a 14 per cent raise over the next two years.
A wage proposal from the university offered an increase of eight per cent over the next three years, in addition to existing annual step increases.
Faculty members voted 92 per cent in favour of a strike in September.
Most classes have been cancelled since the strike began, with some students joining faculty members on the picket line.
News of the tentative agreement came in a press release Sunday evening -- a full week after discussions led by the Provincial Conciliation Services Division.
The Sydney, N.S., university says the agreement “paves the way for the return to classes for CBU students.”
The agreement now needs to be agreed upon and ratified by CBUFA members before details are made public.
The Cape Breton University Board of Governors has already given its approval.
The university says a vote is expected “quickly” and an announcement will be made before classes resume.

Unmasking the Surgical Mask: Does It Really Work?

For a century, the surgical mask has been the symbol of a safe and sanitary medical environment. The problem: researchers don't really know if that's true.
With the H1N1 influenza pandemic spreading every day, experts are still debating what type of mask to wear and how much protection that mask truly provides, particularly for those at the front lines of transmission  --  healthcare workers.
Major health agencies, including the World Health Organization, the CDC, and others, have offered confusing and sometimes contradictory guidelines.
Moreover, those guidelines differ for healthcare workers and ordinary citizens worried about the spread of H1N1. Even among healthcare professionals, there are different guidelines for medical wards and operating rooms.
Still, most healthcare professionals have concluded that, at the very worst, a mask can't hurt, even if it may provide a false sense of safety.
The notion of covering the nose and mouth for infection control actually dates back more than a century to the period when German physician Carl Flügge discovered that exhaled droplets could transmit tuberculosis.
The modern surgical mask, successor to the crude gauze strips those early doctors and nurses employed, is still primarily designed to prevent the passage of relatively large particles, such as sputum droplets and hair.
A high tech version  --  the so-called N95 respirator  --  seals tightly around mouth and nose and is made of material certified to block 95% of particles 0.3 μm or larger in diameter, roughly the size of a single virus. There's something resembling agreement that, worn properly, these do their job.
Conflicting Guidelines
CDC recommends surgical masks as part of the overall arsenal deployed against seasonal flu, but along with the Institute of Medicine, CDC has recommended only N95 respirators for protection against H1N1  --  in part, because animal studies suggest airborne transmission of the virus via small particles.
Not so for the World Health Organization or the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, and the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
They collectively recommended regular surgical masks except in high risk circumstances, such as during open suctioning of airway secretions and other procedures that could "aerosolize" the H1N1 virus.
There's a good reason for this lack of consensus: a dearth of quality evidence in a scientific arena dominated by anecdote and laboratory experiment.
"Some of these practices that have been in place for decades haven't been subjected to the same strenuous investigation that, for instance, a new medicine might be subjected to," Mark Rupp, MD, president of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, told MedPage Today.
Masks, he noted, "are fairly innocuous, relatively cheap, and so people are not really very interested in going through the extensive investigation that would be required."
Conflicting Evidence
In the past two weeks, researchers have released results from the first two randomized clinical trials investigating efficacy of masks and respirators in protecting healthcare workers from respiratory infection.
Did they settle the issue?
Hardly. In fact, their conflicting results simply added fuel to the debate, according to CDC's Arjun Srinivasan, MD.
The first reports came in August, during IOM deliberations over standards for healthcare workers' personal protective equipment, when C. Raina MacIntyre, MBBS, PhD, of the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, presented preliminary results of her randomized clinical trial.
That study involved nearly 2,000 emergency and respiratory ward nurses and physicians in Beijing who were cluster-randomized to wear surgical masks, fit-tested N95 respirators, or non-fit tested N95 respirators during all work hours for four consecutive weeks during the cold and flu season.
Having been through the SARS scare in 2003, the Chinese are regarded as very serious about mask use in the hospital and outside.
At the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy in September, MacIntyre presented the dramatic results: Consistent use of N95 respirators prevented 75% of respiratory infections, while consistent surgical mask use was no better than low use for prevention of clinical respiratory illness (6.7% versus 9.2%, P=0.159) or of influenza-like illness (0.6% versus 1.3%, P=0.336).
The case against old-fashioned surgical masks seemed clear.
"To me it would not seem justifiable to ask healthcare workers to wear surgical masks," MacIntyre said in an interview.
Then another shocker. A second head-to-head study appeared, this time in the Journal of the American Medical Association. It's conclusion: surgical masks were just as good as N95 respirators.
The 478 emergency department, medical unit, and pediatric nurses in this Canadian study who were randomized to use a surgical mask when providing care to patients with febrile respiratory illness during the flu season caught seasonal flu at about the same rate as those who wore fit-tested, N95 respirators (23.6% versus 22.9%, P=0.86).
For H1N1 influenza, surgical masks again met noninferiority criteria versus the N95 respirator (8.0% versus 11.9%, P=0.18).
Design may have accounted for the discrepancy between the trials, at least in part, suggested Srinivasan, who co-authored an editorial accompanying the JAMA study with an IOM committee member colleague.
"These types of studies are very difficult to do," he told MedPage Today.
The driving factor in effectiveness is how frequently and intensely the wearer is exposed to infection, he said. So one possibility is that masks may have been enough for Canadian nurses in generally lower risk settings, but not for the high-risk Chinese healthcare workers.
In Surgery: Masks Unmasked
Lack of evidence has also plagued surgical masks in their traditional setting, and where their use is still nearly universal: the operating room.
But not for lack of study.
In fact, three large, randomized controlled trials were conducted in the 1980s to determine once and for all if surgical masks actually did prevent surgical wound infection.
Here, where bacteria were the major concern in wound infection, the enemy targets were larger and might not require the fine filtration necessary to keep a respiratory virus away, researchers theorized.
But the trials "showed absolutely no efficacy" for that original purpose, MacIntyre noted.
"Really, the surgeon might as well wear nothing on their face," she said.
Still, the CDC recommends a mask in the operating room, citing long-standing tradition and the benefits of protecting nose and mouth from splashes of blood and other bodily fluids.
MacIntyre noted that a face shield is a better option against splashes because surgeons have to wear eye protection with a mask anyway.
But mask wearing "is so inculcated into the practice of medicine that it's going to be very hard to change," said John G. Bartlett, MD, former chief of infectious diseases at Johns Hopkins.
Tradition and aesthetics play a role in the issue. Patients would not accept a surgeon who doesn't wear a mask because they are so ingrained as a symbol of a safe surgical environment, Bartlett said.
And since the masks are fairly inexpensive and easy to wear, it hasn't been worth challenging the status quo, he declared.
Nor are there likely to be more studies to decide the issue one way or the other, added Rupp. "Those studies are difficult to do because the percentage of patients who develop a surgical site infection is very, very low. So the impact of wearing a surgical mask is difficult to demonstrate," he said.
Masks for the Masses
Unlike the operating room, where it would be impossible to stop people from wearing masks, there are few places outside the hospital where it hasn't been hard to persuade people to put them on.
One of the exceptions is Asia, which has developed has a strong culture of mask use, both in medical settings and in public venues, largely as a result of the SARS epidemic in 2003, Bartlett said.
"Those people did whatever they could to try to prevent SARS," he recalled. "If it turned out that the H1N1 virus became more virulent and started to be a really serious disease, then people would be much more fastidious about how they used the disease prevention tools."
The CDC recommends that people who are ill with suspected or confirmed H1N1 flu wear face masks when at home around family members, in healthcare settings, at school until they can be taken home, and when it's necessary for them to be out and about.
However, the only high-level evidence for efficacy of masks in the community was a trial from Hong Kong -- published online last month in the Annals of Internal Medicine  --  involving flu patients who were randomized to hand hygiene alone or in combination with surgical masks.
Compared with controls, employing hand hygiene alone or with face masks tended to reduce transmission of the flu to those living in the same house, but not significantly so.
However, when these interventions were initiated within 36 hours of symptom onset, face masks plus hand hygiene reduced risk of transmission by a very significant 67%.
Although the entire benefit can't be attributed to face masks, the results suggest masks may make a difference, MacIntyre said.
Because exposure to pathogens is typically much lower for the general public than for healthcare workers, "surgical masks may be enough in the community," she said.
Rupp agreed, saying he takes a "better safe than sorry" approach. His medical center asks patients with potentially droplet-mediated infections to put on a surgical mask.
"There probably isn't a whole lot of extensive study on the use of this in clinical situation," Rupp said. "We do think it's a pretty obvious way somebody can go about containing their secretions."
N95 masks would likely provide even more protection, MacIntyre said, but there's is fairly clear consensus that they would be intolerable for someone with a respiratory illness.
"They are relatively difficult to breath through; they can be associated also with feelings of claustrophobia and kind of a suffocating sensation," Rupp added. "It's difficult enough to get them to wear a loose fitting and relatively comfortable surgical mask."
Practical Masking
Practical issues such as compliance and supply have been part of the argument for use of surgical masks rather than N95 respirators in most clinical settings.
In a New England Journal of Medicine perspective piece last week, several IOM committee members acknowledged that N95 respirators are currently in short supply.
They suggested that healthcare institutions place priority on N95 respirators in the highest-risk areas, "such as enclosed spaces in the respiratory care unit, patients' rooms, and ambulances."
While the IOM was instructed to not take these issues into consideration in its guidelines, a CDC spokesperson said that agency is making them a large factor in revision of its interim guidelines for healthcare worker respiratory protection.
In the end, however, infectious disease specialists always come back to the bigger picture.
Debate over the role of respiratory protection in preventing influenza transmission doesn't "excuse anyone from failing to implement other measures that are known to protect patients and healthcare professionals from influenza," Srinivasan's JAMA editorial concluded.
"Masks and respirators should be considered the 'last line of defense' in a hierarchy of infection control measures."
Handwashing, good etiquette when sneezing and coughing, and staying home when sick are still the keys to preventing spread of infectious disease, it said.

october book round up

19 books this month, which brings me to 125 for the year, and i’ve officially completed the yearly challenge! :) a little later than last year, but still earlier than i expected. i don’t imagine that i’ll read as much as i did last year, but i can still get a good bit done in two months i think. this month was pretty much just different flavours of romance, once again all audiobooks.
poison kiss - ana mardoll ⭐️⭐️⭐️ mixed feelings about this one. urban fantasy/paranormal with a neat setup and world building, but i feel like the author didn’t tell the story in the most effective way? not enough time spent on certain sections, time skips that were not needed, too many flashbacks. the poly romance was really sweet, though i didn’t much care for the love at first sight aspect when the third character was introduced. but this was a good book overall, with a unique plot and cast; might revisit the series.
the best boy ever made - rachel eliason ⭐️⭐️⭐️ very cute coming of age/ya romance. a conservative country girl is at first shocked when her best friend comes out as trans, but she slowly finds herself becoming his biggest champion, and then falling in love with him. took me a while to warm up to it bc i found the protagonist to be kind of obnoxious. and some of the later plot events were kind of ham-fisted. but i definitely liked it, mostly for sam and how good and kind he was.
i wish you all the best - meason deaver ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ BRUH I’M CRYING IN THE CLUB. this was a really fucking sweet ya romance. the main character finds themselves homeless after they come out as nb to their parents. they move in with their sister, enroll in a new school, and find themselves making friends with (and slowly falling for!) a literal ray of sunshine. this was great, another one of those books i wish i could have read when i was younger. dealt with coming out, depression, anxiety and first love, had great writing, and i’m still thinking about how great the ending lines were.
the neighbour - gerri hill ⭐️⭐️ eh... a book that COULD have been good (woman with a stunted career as a writer moves back home to take care of her ailing mother, finds herself falling for the rich lesbian player next door) but both main characters were so thoroughly unlikable lmao. judgemental, snooty, made jokes about harmful things, kind of elitist... there was one aspect of this book that i really liked (the main character changed careers later in life and it wasn’t seen as a failure, just moving on) but otherwise this was a disappointment.
the turner series - cat sebastian ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ historical romance!!! always a fave. this was a pretty fun series; first three m/m, last one f/f. a bit of mystery and intrigue in all of them, good humour, and a great cast of characters through and through. the second one was probably my favourite; one of the mcs suffered from anxiety attacks in an era where there was a lot of wrong information about mental health, and his love interest (a cheat and a scoundrel) ended up being the best thing that happened to him. although now that i’ve said that i just remembered how very much i love the third book’s protagonist (the rake, to be specific). standout character for sure. the last book has a dear place in my heart bc even though you can tell that the author doesn’t often write f/f, and it was a pretty short novella, it’s still historical lesbians, and i eat up historical lesbians with a spoon. (i could make a pretty bad joke here but lo and behold; i have GREAT self control.)
the secret casebook of simon feximal - k.j. charles ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ when k.j. charles is good, SHE’S REALLY FUCKING GOOD. this is a paranormal-mystery/romance book styled after the adventures of sherlock holmes (if you must know one thing about me it’s that i’m a slut for acd holmes, don’t fucking @ me), set in the very universe itself. not quite a pastiche but close enough, and it was so well written, with great world building around the magic and paranormal events, great characters, GREAT ROMANCE. told as stories published by robert, simon’s biographer and lover. i adored this and will definitely reread.
puppy love romance - georgia beers ⭐️⭐️⭐️ a trio of f/f novels centred around an animal rescue, and the women who work and volunteer there and fall in love there. each of these novels was really sweet, grounded in a way that i like for contemporary romance, and they all had adorable dogs in them. and i feel like beers really knows her way around plotting and pacing a novel, especially small town romances. but i also had pretty sizeable nitpicks for each of them lol. part of it is that i just got tired of beers’ writing style (as you can see, i took a break between the series). this is such a weird complaint but oh my god she uses too many adverbs lol. also there was always an emphasis on how amazingly stunningly gorgeously beautiful all six women were and it got so tiresome. idk who wants to read about women who are physically perfect all the time, but it’s not me. and one half of the romantic pair in each book (lisa, emily and sydney, in that order) had attitudes that i found obnoxious and were not resolved and i felt bad for their girlfriends having to deal with them. a fun read all in all, but some of those things rubbed me the wrong way, and i’m ready to take a break from this author. 
bound series - ava march ⭐️⭐️ a resounding meh. historical m/m romance that wasn’t bad, but there wasn’t anything great about it. i only read these like maybe a week and a half ago but i’m struggling to remember details. there was bdsm, which i didn’t hate, but i also didn’t care. the plot was bleh, the sources of conflict were weak, and one of the dudes was kind of an asshole. /shrug emoji
reverie - eliza andrews ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ god... GOD. the ride i took with this book was like... a really sexy butch took me out to dinner, wined and dined me, and in the very last course she leaned over and spit in me food. the premise: a woman on the run from her abusive ex-husband settles into a small town where she find herself drawn to the only out lesbian in town, a sweet butch ex-marine, and her mysterious nurse of a neighbour. this book was soooooooo well written, so well crafted, so moving, so beautiful. a paranormal mystery that actual kept me guessing. i was ready to name it the best f/f book i read this year, if not the best romance period. and then the ending. the FUCKING ENDING. i’ve rarely been so let down in my life. i’m looking at the four stars i gave this and wondering if i should go lower because SERIOUSLY. thinking about it is getting me kind of upset. this book could have been SO good. uuuuuugh. 
brothers of the wild north sea - harper fox ⭐️⭐️ this is tricky because like. this book was definitely like, not good lmao, but it was good enough that i almost feel guilty giving it 2 stars. this is a historical romance that takes place more than a thousand years ago between a viking and a monk. it wasn’t badly written, probably wasn’t historically accurate but i mean, i don’t care. but it was too long, i didn’t care about the characters, it was badly plotted, and just really confusing overall. i think harper fox is great at writing romance, but all other aspects of this novel fell flat.
escape velocity - anah crow, dianne fox ⭐️⭐️⭐️ sci-fi m/m romance. a linguistic researcher and a pilot struggling with his religious beliefs fall into a whirlwind romance. pretty cute. i found it too short as i find most novellas, but i think the authors did a lot in relatively few words. definitely wish there was more worldbuilding. kind of hope the authors have plans to make this a series.
nowhere ranch - heidi cullinan ⭐️⭐️⭐️ a sweet romance between a farm hand and his boss. i didn’t think i’d like it much, but it was pretty enjoyable! very simple writing stuff that fit well with the gruff, no-nonsense, trying to shut everyone out protagonist. i really liked him; identified with him a lot, and his journey into opening up, dealign with his anxiety and self-worth issues. and the romance was sweet (though oooof, some of the sex scenes were too much). the book went from being really raunchy to really domestic and i kind of liked that. the resolution came a bit too quick, but i enjoyed it nonetheless.
that’s it for october! still currently unemployed, waiting for the people i signed a contract with to call me. since i don’t want to dip too much into my savings i’ve been doing odd jobs here and there, and might take a more steady part-time job in the meantime? all of that to say: i probably won’t be reading as much in november. i’m currently reading the first book in the spencer cohen series, and not... really loving it, lol, so i might pass on the others.
