Here is a poem I wrote for the artist, Qinni, who made these pieces and many more. She died last year and this is how I made sense of it.
-love letter to Qinni-
The day you died the sun was shining
and I caught myself before deciding
it wasn't right. The world lost a light
and so why should it have to lose
any more? Now one day later snow
flakes fall as the sun still shines.
I can only wonder what you would've made
with that. But all I can do is what I can
with what I have to honor your name.
We out here not yet gone are painting
pictures with tears, writing your name
in water for those who know to see.
I am not an angel. That's what you are.
That's what an angel is: dust pressed
into a diamond by the weight
of the world. Heart operations and
cancer thrown into the vessel
of a life exhaled far too early
and could there be another universe,
one that wasn't always out to get you,
it breaks my heart just a little bit.
You pretended your blue and purple
hospital bruises were galaxies
and you gave them to us with no fear
and were rewarded with untold hearts
that still beat for you. We're bent
but not broken. I'm not dead yet
and I live to sing praises of painters
and poets for the heroes who wait
beyond the door for us.
I'm watching a TV show whereupon death
a seed in the brain is triggered by exposure
to truth and then grows a flower,
a garden of the universe. Another
painting of yours that doesn't exist.
I wish it did and yet we exist in other
dimensions besides this. You are there
somewhere brush in hand
painting all of this with a pure heart
and a smile on your face.

A year ago since the sudden passing of @qinni . She’s one of the artists I’ve followed for the longest, and I related so much to her pieces and her struggle with health issues keeping her from making art. Still forever grateful for her beautiful works and kind soul.
I painted this a little under a year ago when I first heard the news. Combining different aspects of my favorite pieces of her, including the infamous goldfish in the sky.

Rest in Peace Qinni!
It hit me so hard hearing of her passing, she inspired me so incredibly much, she is the one who made me want to explore with how to draw glowing objects. Her art piqued my curiosity!
She has left us all way too soon!
Fly high my beautiful and talented angel! All art is Qinni’s!

In memory of Qinni, the artist Qing Han. I first came across her art over a decade ago, when I was still in high school. She was an amazing, prolific artist who also made free references and process pics for the online community. Like so many other young artists of that time, I looked up to her. She’d been such a fixture in the community that, somehow, I never really thought she could ever really be gone.
Rest in peace, Qinni. Thank you for your generosity and for your strength. This is my tribute to her.

Moondust in your lungs,
Stars in your eyes
You are a child of the cosmos,
A ruler of the skies.
r.i.p Qinni.
I’m not the best at art, but I wanted to make this tribute to one of the most amazing artists I’ve ever seen. I’ve only seen her art once or twice, but it always blew me away, and I hope she’s doing whatever make her happy, wherever she is.
