Reverse Corpse the Advasana
Tumblr media
Reverse Corpse the Advasana
The Reverse Corpse pose, or Advasana, is an inverted yoga pose with enormous benefits. It helps to relax and release tension in the lower back, improve circulation in the abdominal area, and balance the adrenal glands. It also increases flexibility in the hips and abdomen and can aid in digestion. Advasana is one of the relaxing yoga poses under the category of restorative poses. The inversion opens a space in the belly that can help to release grief and trauma, leading to a sense of peace and grounding. It has the ability to dissolve stress and can be calming and calming even in times when stress levels are high. It's an excellent way to re-energize yourself and start the day with a sense of rejuvenation. Read the full article

Restorative Yoga
What is Restorative Yoga?
Restorative yoga is a gentle, low-impact practice that helps you relax and rejuvenate. It's often recommended for people who are new to yoga, or those who have experienced injury or illness and want to practice safely.
It is a practice that is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. If you take a restorative class, you may hardly move at all, doing just a few postures in the course of an hour. It is a completely different experience than most contemporary yoga.
The majority of yoga classes are an active practice in which you move from pose to pose, building heat and increasing your strength and flexibility in equal measure. The general trend in yoga is toward more athletic and acrobatic styles of practice.
During the long holds of restorative yoga, however, your muscles are allowed to relax deeply. It's a unique feeling because props, rather than your muscles, are used to support your body. Restorative classes are very mellow, making them a good complement to more active practices (as well as our busy lives) and an excellent antidote to stress. Stillness is a powerful practice.
Who can practice?
Restorative yoga can be practiced by anyone looking to reduce stress, improve sleep and alleviate pain. Here are some reasons why restorative yoga is a great addition to your routine:
Why should you try it?
It’s relaxing. The poses in restorative yoga are held longer than in other types of yoga, so you get more time to relax and unwind. Your muscles will slowly release tension, which improves flexibility and reduces aches and pains.
It improves sleep quality. Those who practice restorative yoga regularly report better sleep quality, according to research published in the Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine. Researchers found that when participants practiced restorative poses before bedtime for two months, they had an easier time falling asleep, stayed asleep longer and experienced fewer interruptions during the night compared with those who didn't use restorative poses as part of their bedtime routine.
It improves blood pressure regulation. Research published in Evidence-Based Complementary Alternative Medicine found that when participants did restorative poses three times per week for eight weeks.
Clinical research into restorative yoga has found that it can decrease depression in cancer survivors; improve symptoms of anxiety, depression, and pain symptoms in cancer patients; and help patients manage the toxicity of cancer treatments.
There is so much out there to learn about this beautiful practice and so much more I will talk about in up coming post. I hope this has sparked your interest in restorative for your personal practice.
Til next time.
Much Love,
Shanda

Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga provides a meditative space in which to learn the vital art of emotional self-regulation as well as gain important self-soothing skills. It is a guided personal healing experience; it is like taking a trip to the spa on your yoga mat. The strategy employed involves positioning the body in various physical shapes (asana), supported by props, to create subtle physical sensations, without placing any strenuous demand on the body. This provides an opportunity to access deep rest and relaxation through the experience of physical support and the accompanying practice of mindfulness meditation.
The primary goals of Restorative Yoga is to balance and heal dysregulation of the nervous system. As a species, we thrive at our parasympathetic baseline with momentary sympathetic activations to help us navigate through acute stressful moments. Commonly, however, we become locked in a state of sympathetic activation, remaining hyper-vigilant long after the threat has passed, sometimes for days, weeks, months, or even years. This takes a toll on the body’s ability to heal itself; overtime, failure to distribute our resources to our body’s ongoing “maintenance and repair” results in negative health consequences (mentally, physically, energetically, and spiritually). Restorative Yoga helps us cultivate our relaxation skill set and strengthen our parasympathetic tone, developing the neural pathways that support deliberate relaxation and conscious rest.
Restorative yoga fundamentally challenges Western capitalist principles and provides a necessary antedate to our often overwhelmingly busy modern lifestyles. It teaches us to detach our sense of self-worth from our level of productivity and that taking rest is not laziness, or an indulgent luxury, but rather a human birth right. Conscious rest is a critical ingredient in the pursuit of longevity with functionality and quality of life. Restorative Yoga provides a radical self-care routine, asking you to choose yourself, to care for yourself, to fill your cup, because you deserve the same love and attention as the ones you so lovingly and dedicatedly care for.

Searching for Deep Rest
Jumping back in to see what I’ve been missing. And it seems like a lot. I’ve been thinking a lot about the culture of “winning,” and how it skips over process, or the steps it takes to do anything. And that includes the steps involved in deep rest. One would think it means flopping down on a couch, bed, yoga mat, or floor, but I sense that it’s much deeper and step laden than that. However, the steps are not easy to define, as they should be. Musings on doing to win or succeed and resting. All this from watching the NBA finals, and listening to the sports journalists’ and announcers’ words. Turning off the sound works really well for me.

Yoga is a great way to relax, improve your flexibility, and increase your overall health. For those just starting out on their yoga journey, here are four poses that are perfect for beginners.
Mountain Pose (Tadasana): This pose is the foundation of all standing poses in yoga, and helps you to develop balance and stability. Start by standing with your feet together, and your arms by your sides. Make sure your weight is evenly distributed between your feet, and draw your shoulder blades down your back. Take a few deep breaths, and then lift your arms above your head, interlacing your fingers and pointing your palms towards the sky. Hold the pose for a few seconds, and then slowly lower your arms back to your sides.
Cat/Cow Pose (Marjariasana): This pose is great for stretching your spine, and helps to improve posture and flexibility. Begin on your hands and knees, with your wrists directly under your shoulders and your knees directly under your hips. Upon inhaling, arch your back up towards the ceiling, dropping your belly towards the floor. Upon exhaling, round your spine toward the ceiling, tucking your chin towards your chest. Repeat this motion for several breaths.
Child's Pose (Balasana): This pose is great for relaxation and to help relieve stress. Begin on your hands and knees, with your buttocks resting on your heels. Slowly lower your chest towards the floor, and extend your arms out in front of you. Hold the pose for several breaths, and then slowly rise back up to your hands and knees.
Tree Pose (Vrksasana): This is a great pose for improving balance and strengthening your leg muscles. Start by standing on one leg, with your foot flat against the floor. Place your opposite foot against your ankle, calf, or inner thigh. Then, raise your arms above your head and interlace your fingers. Hold the pose for several breaths, and then switch sides.
These four poses are a great way to get started with yoga. Remember to take it slow and focus on your breathing. With practice, you'll be able to enjoy the many benefits of yoga!
Much love to you and your journey,Shanda.

It’s our final day and we have legs up the wall or savasana Viparita Karani (legs up the wall) is the most calming and nourishing of poses. It is gentle enough and achievable for the majority of students. Legs up the wall relaxes the nervous system which in turn reduces stress and anxiety. The benefits are endless. I recommend students do this pose daily especially at night. Do you practice this pose regularly? Day 8 #alogentleposes | March 6-13 Let’s slow it down and bring in more mindfulness with 8 days of gentle asanas. Get cozy, feel free to grab props and wear something comfy as we do grounding and feel-good hip openers, backbends folds, and twists to restore our bodies 😌🧘🏽‍♂️🧘🏻‍♀️ Poses Day 1: Butterfly Day 2: Pigeon Day 3: Frog Day 4: Child’s pose Day 5: Fish Day 6: Bridge Day 7: Reclined twist Day 8: Legs up the wall/savasana Hosts: @yogawithrona @yoginiinheels @_emjayyogini_ @yogajeannee @eriwyattyoga @bethanysmithyoga ⠀⠀ Sponsors: @aloyoga @alomoves ⠀⠀ How to Participate: - Make your profile public - Follow all hosts and sponsors - Repost the flyer as a post, not a story or slide with the caption and tag some friends to join! - Post a video/photo daily using the hashtag #alogentleposes & tag all hosts and sponsors - Show some love to the gallery! #viparitakarani #legsup #legsupthewall #savasana #gentleyoga #restorativeyoga #yinyoga #yinyogateacher #yinyogalove #yinyogapose #aloyogachallenge #aloyogachallenges #aloyoga #igyogachallenges #finalday https://www.instagram.com/p/CpvNbofrLCF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
