Some older pictures from Johnstown Galleria. I hear this place is doing better now under an eccentric new owner.

It seems Washington Square Mall in Evansville, IN has finally turned off their neon lighting, likely for good. Glad I still have many photos like this gem.

GameStop is laying people off.
You know, that company that in 2022 sells physical copies of video games, a thing 98% of people don't buy anymore. They also have Funko Pops and Rick and Morty merch -- notable as other things almost no one buys.
They were also deeply invested in crypto. Unfortunately the pretend money market just collapsed recently when everyone finally realized it is PRETEND MONEY. They put real money into that, largely as some sort of joke only Elon Musk thinks is funny, so obviously that's all gone now. As are all the people who were managing that, because the only thing less helpful than losing real money betting on pretend money is continuing to pay real money to the people who were doing that bad, stupid thing.
There is exactly one thriving physical video game market right now, and that is the retro scene. People want old consoles and new consoles that play old games, and all the old carts and discs and flash cards that go with that. They are paying top dollar for all that.
But GameStop isn't selling GameCubes or Sega Genesises or even Xbox 360s. They're selling Funko Pops and physical copies of FIFA 2023. And you can't even pay for them with the pretend money they spent millions in real money on. Which says a lot, I think.
My point here is let's all wave goodbye to the Sears of video games. Your retail locations will soon be replaced with nail salons and Subways. And both of those have a better business model than you did, you stupid fucking morons.

I couldn’t really get a good shot, but the Old Jamestown Mall is beginning to be demolished. Sounds like it’s gonna be a long process, though.

Death, decay and the American shopping mall: How the retail apocalypse led to shopping centers' extinction
Death, decay and the American shopping mall: How the retail apocalypse led to shopping centers’ extinction
Flashy stores, salted pretzels, coin-operated kid’s rides that looked like they were ready to come to life right off the metal grate where they sat. For many, this is what childhood memories of mall visits entailed, but what happened? Across North America, malls are quickly disappearing. Whether they are being demolished due to age, or have simply failed to keep business afloat, it is clear that…
