I went to the biochem Q&A sesh today

and OMG DID I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS I DID NOT EXPECT TO HAVE THAT MANY but I'm glad I attended, else it would've taken longer to get a response but now I have to revise (and by that I mean cut) a LOT from my paper and re-think how I'm doing it, if I'm doing it right or veering off topic (bc one thing when you're researching a disease new to you is that there's sm info out there and you're like 🙌🏻 EVERYTHING IS RELEVANT 🙌🏻 but no- only the biochem-related aspects of the disease are relevant for this assignment). idk how off-topic i actually am or if i'm pretty on the mark, but ngghhh tHe FiRsT dRaFt Is DuE On TuEsDaY *frantically waves arms, noodle-like* 🙌🏻 that doesn't feel like a lot of time to write the whole thing in all the detail i want so i can get useful feedback 😫

i read somewhere on here about having a document of your cuts in case you need it again later. useful advice, that. 👏🏻 also, i think what i should do first is make notes in a separate doc and THEN decide what to do with all that info...it might sound like it'll take longer but it's more efficient than writing a whole bunch and then realizing half of it is info you don't need. my stupid panicky brain couldn't realize that in the beginning (even tho that's what it had done b4 for other "essay-like" assignments) and was either stuck in analysis paralysis or just editing and re-editing, but better now than later (i haven't written THAT much beyond the intro anyway 😅)...

in other news, i got enough sleep for once bc i went to bed super early and ACTUALLY FELL ASLEEP BEFORE 12AM LIKE WHAT IS THIS MADNESS (ig i finally tired myself out enough these past few days 🤷🏻‍♀️) and despite waking up multiple times throughout the night bc i'm not used to the schedule, i am well-rested 😌 and my back is still being annoying but at least it's a little better than yesterday + i get to study while cozy in bed 🥰

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!! I wanna start 2024 introducing my main penguin oc and finally posting his character card that I had in my gallery for far longer that I’m willing to admit 😅

So, This is Jimmy. I took a page out of @flxr-art book and asked her to describe him and this is what she had to say:

“Jimmy is the type of character that acts mostly because of his love ones instead of for himself, and once he learns how to step outside of what he knows is great. He's so very insecure at first, and still is, but he makes due with what he has and even though he's not confident on himself he takes a step outside of his comfort zone for his friends and is very protective of them”

Jimmy has charisma, but he lacks the confidence to back it up. He “knows” a lot of penguins but had little to no friends before meeting Thunder.

He’s on the inattentive side of ADHD and was definitely considered “gifted” as a kid witch gave him such a self worth crisis that still follows him. Basically if he isn’t giving his 110% he doesn’t feel like he’s doing something right. To him, if things are easy, he’s not putting an effort. This mentality has kept him from perusing many opportunities.

He’s the book’s smart to Thunder’s street smarts in the sense that he does that ADHD thing of picking up information like a magnet and knowing a little bit of everything.

As a kid all to way up to early adulthood he had a blog dedicated to conspiracy theories. Ninjas, secret codes, tipping the iceberg, etc. He still logs into it from time to time but since he became a journalist he’s barely been able to update it. Aunt Arctic had always been a role model to him so, in her honor, his screen name for this blog was “Jimmy Arctic” and it stuck.

His mom is Argentinian and his dad was Puertorican but if you ask him up front he’ll just say he’s Argentinian since his dad passed away before Jimmy could really remember him and he doesn’t feel very connected to that side of himself. He’s very close to his mom though. He was born and raised in Club Penguin but his mom moved away after he grew up.

Jimmy is very adaptable to whomever he is with. He can even the playing field easily or match the energy of the other person. He’s actually on his best when playing off of someone else since it forces him to step out of his comfort zone, and explore different facets of his own personality.

On the down side, he can be a bit egocentric, but not in a “oh look at me, I’m the center of the universe” kinda way. All his life it’s been just him and his mom, so that’s his point of reference. It’s more of a “oh, I’ve been stuck inside my own head for so long that I forget the factor the wide range of reactions from others”

Fun facts:

-“Jimmy” was the name of my first ever penguin in CP. The name comes from that one character in the Kratt brother’s cartoon. To this day I have no idea why I choose it, I didn’t even like the character that much, but regardless, I’m glad I did.

-I named him Juaquin because as a kid, I didn’t like the name. I also didn’t know how to spell it. It’s fine, it’s a running joke. (Also to all Juaquins out there, I do like the name now, I’m sorry 🙏)

-He was originally going to be related to Aunt A. but upon revision, yeah first thing I scratched. The name stuck though.

-He also had a cousin named Elsa who was a whole other mess of a character so I scraped her

-All my ocs are adults in their early to mid twenties, but of the main three, Jimmy is the youngest.

-His dad named him.

-His mom calls him “Quino”

-Has a lot of ADHD headaches

-He has an argentine accent when he speaks Spanish, and while he can mask it pretty well in English it occasionally slips.

-He enjoys card-jitsu as a spectator sport and collects the cards.

-He came up with the band name. Thunder only regrets it sometimes.

-just in case it didn’t make sense, he has a blue puffle named Blue.

Quick writing update ✨

Hello, dear friends! ✨ I just wanted to drop by to say that I haven't forgotten about my Luigi's Mansion fanfic! I'm working on it and intend to post it ASAP!

It's just that, since I'm revising and editing it, I added a new scene (which I'm very proud of how it turned out, if I can say so myself), and also extended a little bit another one, so it's getting a bit longer than I expected 😅 It was 10 pages long when I wrote it back in April, and now it's 18 🤭🙈

So I've decided to post it on archiveofourown as soon as I get the invitation! I requested it a few days ago and I was told that I'll probably get it on Monday 18th, so I'll keep working these days on editing and translating the fanfic, and on that day, if everything goes well, I'll post the first part on ao3! ✨

Of course I'll leave here all the links, and I'll also post a small sneak peek so you can see what to expect 🤭 I'm really looking forward to sharing it! I really hope you enjoy it a lot!!! 🤩✨

Hello, this is H.C. from Leaked Experience again ^^ I realized I never gave a proper explanation as to what happened with the Saint Tail analyses on our site and what the retranslation project had to do with them. (I'm not sure if that many people read them in the first place, but we do occasionally get notifications and questions about them, and it's something I feel like I should take responsibility for one way or another...)

The short answer is that they're still under revision, and I've been slowly churning at them! It's just that D.A. and I have been really busy during these last few months, but I'm hoping things will quiet down soon so I can get some quality time to write 😅 While we did have connections to the retranslation project, it was fundamentally a separate project that was done with much more thorough and proper judgment than my informal analysis, so I wanted to bring it closer to their work.

For the longer, more detailed answer, I'll need to explain a bit more about the timeline of events. I discovered the problem with Saint Tail's translation around exactly a year ago in March and started writing on the site in response (D.A. and I had always been talking about making a proper site for our operations, so it felt like a good opportunity). After the Discotek release of the anime came out shortly after and turned out to still have the same problems, the idea of a retranslation project started entering discussion within our friend/acquaintance circle, and the project formally took off in around July.

Since we at Leaked Experience had done a lot of research work and taken notes on where to find wording parallels, what to look out for in translation, etc., these resources were passed onto the translation group to cut down on some of the work, but since the "translations" done for my analysis were very hasty, informally-done ones, the translation team had a policy that if there was a discrepancy between their translation/interpretation and ours, theirs would take priority. The team's QCers were also picked from people who'd never had exposure to the series before, so they were able to evaluate everything with a fresh mindset, and the retranslation was done carefully line-by-line while taking everyone's insights into account.

So if you're worried that I'd forced my personal theories into the retranslation or anything, please be assured that this isn't the case, and that it's actually closer to the other way around! This blog post about the retranslation mentions a certain person who'd gotten the wrong impression about the anime because she'd still fallen victim to some biases caused by the old translation, and, uh... that's me, I'm the idiot in question 😅 Despite having written those articles to combat misconceptions caused by the old translation, even I hadn't been completely immune to its influence, and a lot of my analysis had some really bad takes.

Let alone the fact that I didn't even agree with my own takes anymore, I was also worried that leaving them up as-is would reflect badly on the retranslation due to Leaked Experience's affiliation with them. So that's why I took the analyses down, and I refused to start working on new versions until the retranslation was completely done. Unfortunately, it's been taking a while because I've been juggling it with some other work (we've been working on scanning some out-of-print releases of older magical girl manga for preservation), but it's something I really do want to get done, especially since I feel like I need to make up for what I'd said earlier about the anime. I had so many bad takes about the anime that were actually caused by the old translation, and I feel like such an idiot for saying things like that so emphatically ><;;

20. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?

I wish I was better at identifying patterns in my fics because I’m sure I have far more than I have find. I think joy is a common emotion, I think my fics have a general atmosphere of light even when something more serious or scary is happening. For more technical things I think I fight my automatic habit of run on sentences so hard that I end up with shorter than average length sentences at some points while still having very long sentences at others. I don’t have too much dialogue because that’s something that’s difficult for me to write.

21. Would you ever collaborate with another writer for a story?

Maybe? I like the idea in theory of collaborating with someone whose fic I like. But also: I suck at conversations, school group-project trauma, seems so time consuming. Writing fics inspired by each other is great though!

22. Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)

I am not ruling anything out! But of course, some things are more unlikely such as things that squick me out.

25. What fic do you wish you got more of a response on?

Probably This is the Best Way to See America. But it’s a long fic in a shrinking fandom that is incomplete and has no ships. So by that metric I think it’s done okay. Just the amount of response for the amount of time I’ve put into it (because it’s so long) is small.

26. Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

Well, This is the Best Way to See America has to be it. Because it’s long and weird, but it’s not what I’d normal label a wild ride.

27. What is your most and least favorite part of writing?

28. On average, how much writing do you get done in a day?

Not much! 😅 On days I actually write I probably average maybe 100-400 words. But I don’t write at all many days. It’s very rare for me to write more than maybe 800-1k words in a day (happened twice I think, not that I keep close track.)

29. What’s your revision or editing process like?

I edit as I go usually. Then when I finish, I usually sleep on it then look it all over the next day and either post it or send it to my beta-reader depending on the fic.

33. Do you want to be published some day?

Not really, it sounds like far too much work and stress.

34. Five years from now, where do you see yourself as a writer?

Hopefully still having time and motivation to do so. And maybe having written for some other fandoms and so longer fics too.

36. How do you write kissing scenes?

Ideally with a lot of time spent imagining it 😳

37. How do you choose where to end a chapter?

I don’t feel I’ve written the kind of stories this question is geared for. I feel there are clear end points in all my multichapter fics.

38. Would you ever write commissions?

I don’t think so. I’m stressed enough writing for myself and for attention.

39. Share a snippet from a WIP

Here is a bit from my Joker Out fic:

Despite Bojan’s tardiness this morning, it’s looking like they’ll make their flight from Amsterdam to Ljubljana. Nace knows it’s too soon to count on everything going smoothly – Nace hasn’t been with this band that long but he’s been with them long enough to learn they have an air-travel-specific travel curse. Usually it’s lost baggage, but Nace thought today it might have been a lost Bojan. However, Bojan had made it – just in time and with traces of green chalk powder in his hair hinting at where he may have spent last night.

And a bit from TITBWTSA (this chapter has been in progress for ages):

“Ooh, look at that bird,” Olli said suddenly, interrupting the flow of conversation between Joonas and Niko. Joel turned quickly towards Olli, then towards the direction he was pointing into and saw yet another bird. This one was a little bigger than the brownish-blackish ones on the table, and it was bright orange and black. It would have been quite pretty, if it wasn’t a bird and so close. It was perched on a trash can only a meter or two from the table they were seated at. “That one is pretty,” Niko said, “I wonder if I have anything in my pockets for it.” He began digging through his pockets. “Please don’t feed the birds,” Joel said. He didn’t want to encourage more to come. “There are a lot of birds here, someone must feed them,” Joonas said, “look at that red one over there.” Joel where Joonas was pointing to see a bright red bird perched on a branch of the nearest scraggly tree. “Some seagulls too,” Olli said, nodding towards the far end of the lot. Joel looked that way and saw a half dozen seagulls standing on the ground. As Joel watched, he noted that they seemed to be shuffling gradually closer.

40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

Oooh, I would be so excited! It would depend on their style a lot actually. The first thing that jumps to mind is Niko first discovering the glade and Olli in Chill. For someone whose art is more focused on the characters rather than backgrounds, maybe the beginning bit of A Privilege of Olli and Aleksi on the bed or something with the daemons. Or just almost any part of the bear fic, if the artist can draw bears 🙂

41. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?

I have reread all my fics after posting, except the latest one and TITBWTSA. I write for me! For fics I didn’t write, I reread some of my favorite fics too. Not as much as I have in the past because I’m reading in multiple active fandoms and at least looking at the tags/summary of everything in the tags for each, so I have so many new fics to try. But there are many fics I have read over and over, including ones I’m not in the fandom at all for anymore (or never really was, e.g. treasured and much reread Star Trek fic vs. how little of the material I’ve actually watched and how little I’ve engaged the fandom.)

paramore’s “b-sides”

so, there’s this fan-made compilation of paramore’s rare songs, that originally came out in around 2008. it collects practically all of their hard to find non-album songs, and to this day is still one of the first things you’re gonna come across when you start looking into these songs, which i think is pretty impressive staying power for a fan-made compilation from nearly 15 years ago!! 😧

but the title “b-sides” is incredibly misleading, because it contains everything from actual b-sides, to hayley’s solo demos, to soundtrack and compilation album appearances and more?? and as i’ve looked into it, there’s very few sources that actually discuss the song’s origins, and some of the sources that do are from around the time it was first made, and are massively outdated and incorrect now.. so it could be pretty confusing for people trying to look up info about these songs 😵‍💫

so i thought i’d make my own post about it, partially cos i just like doing this sort of thing, but also for anyone who might be interested in learning some more about some of paramore’s more obscure songs!! ☺️

because this post ended up waaay longer than i thought it was gonna be, i’ve put it under a read more, and although this might be far more information than most people will ever need, i had fun doing this and even learnt some things i didn’t know before!! 😅

so to start.. as far as i can tell, this is the original tracklist for “b-sides,” when it was first released in 2008:

this is the version that my friend sent me song by song over msn in 2009 and was how i listened to these songs for years 😅 but the tracklist has been revised a lot over time, removing some songs and adding a tonne more, like for example, the version of the album on youtube (which has over 500k views, and is probably where most people will discover the album) also has:

love’s not a competition (but i’m winning it)

and according to the paramore wiki, the most recent version of the album (altho i have no idea where this is actually available for download??) removed some of those and added:

in the mourning (demo)

which i’m pretty sure makes that the full list of songs that have been included in the compilation at one point or another 😧 and as you can see, there’s a tonne of different songs from all throughout their career.. but they’re all just lumped together with no differentiation, and in a kind of random order 😅

so, getting round to the song’s origins.. i’m gonna attempt to list them in chronological order, but might be hard for some of them, so it’s not gonna be absolutely perfect 😅

hayley williams’ 2003/2004 demos (adore, another day, breathe (until tomorrow), hello hello, just like me, my number one, stay away, swim in silence, throwing punches): these songs are not technically paramore songs, and were never intended to be. according to hayley herself, they were recorded between the original 2002 incarnation of paramore, and when they officially got together in 2004, and were used to get hayley signed to her first production deal

they’re often called the “2004 demos,” although seeing as hayley got signed in 2003, i don’t know how accurate that actually is and they could be from earlier?? i’m also not sure where the downloads for them originally appeared from or how they got leaked, and there’s downloads for these demos separate from the b-sides compilation that also include “temporary” ..but i’m fairly certain that wasn’t actually a 2004 demo as i’ll talk about later. these songs have never been officially released, which is a real shame because even as low quality demos, they’re really fucking good 🙁

i’m not sure why 4 of these (“breathe (until tomorrow),” “swim in silence,” “stay away” and “throwing punches”) weren’t included on the original version of the b-sides compilation, as they were available on the 2004 demos download from the same time, so people definitely had access to them, so i might have to try and do some more looking into that 🤔

hallelujah (demo): a version of hallelujah that was apparently recorded during the all we know is falling sessions in 2005, but has never been officially released

“sound of superman” soundtrack (my hero): for the soundtrack of the 2006 film “superman returns,” paramore recorded a cover of foo fighter’s song “my hero.” it’s a pretty good album and also has a great cover of r.e.m. by the academy is... too!! an “electronic mix” of this cover also appeared as a b-side on one of the misery business vinyl singles, but oddly enough it doesn’t look like that version was ever included on the b-sides compilation

the summer tic ep (emergency (crab mix), oh star, stuck on you, this circle): paramore released this ep for the 2006 warped tour, containing an alternate version of “emergency” and 3 other songs. “oh star” (or “o’ star”) was apparently one of the first paramore songs ever wrote, all the way back in 2003, and also appeared as a b-side on the “emergency” single in 2005. it also has a demo version, which i imagine was recorded some time in 2004/2005, and was never released officially.

“this circle” also appeared as a b-side on one of the other misery business vinyls, and both it and “o’ star” were included on the 10th anniversary edition of “all we know is falling”

“misery business” b-sides (stop this song (lovesick melody), sunday bloody sunday): as well as the previously mentioned songs, these 2 were also released as b-sides on different editions of the misery business singles. “stop this song” also appeared as a bonus track on a deluxe version of riot! which i’ll cover shortly

“hallelujah” b-sides (decoy, when it rains (demo version)): despite often being called a “demo” song and lumped in with the other demos, decoy is actually a proper studio track, that appeared on the hallelujah single, as well as a deluxe version of riot! along with the “when it rains” demo

riot! deluxe edition bonus tracks (rewind (demo), temporary (demo), here we go again (live)): there’s a tonne of different deluxe versions of riot! all with different bonus tracks, which apart from the ones i’d already mentioned also includes these ones. “temporary” appearing here is what makes me doubt it was a 2004 demo, because as hayley said, those songs weren’t paramore songs and weren’t intended to be, so i think it as well as “rewind” were just songs that never made the cut for either all we know is falling or riot! 🤔

the live version of “here we go again” is apparently from a 2006 performance in anaheim, and also later got included on a deluxe version of all we know is falling

radio 1’s live lounge - volume 3 (love’s not a competition (but i’m winning it): a kaiser chiefs’ cover paramore recorded for bbc’s live lounge in 2008. although this song is on the version of “the b-sides” on youtube, it’s been removed from the most recent version of the compilation, although i’m not sure why

“twilight” soundtrack (decode (acoustic), i caught myself): probably the 2 most well known songs from this list, “decode” and “i caught myself” were on the soundtrack for “twilight” in 2008. the acoustic version of “decode” is the b-side from the decode single released a couple of weeks before the soundtrack itself

it’s the fact that these 2 well known and popular songs were included on the b-sides album alongside the rare and obscure songs that made me want to write this list differentiating the songs in the first place, especially after i found a blog post from 2010 that called “i caught myself” a 2004 demo, like.. no.. it wasn’t.. 😑

“jennifer’s body” soundtrack (teenagers): a hayley williams’ solo song she did for the “jennifer’s body” soundtrack in 2009, i don’t know why this was included on the album because it’s definitely not a paramore song, but it’s a cool rarity at least??

in the mourning (demo): a video of a short performance of “in the mourning” was posted on paramore’s site and youtube in early 2011, about 11 months before the actual song came out. it’s more of an acoustic sneak peek than an actual demo, but i suppose it’s notable enough to include

self-titled bonus tracks (escape route, native tongue): originally released as bonus tracks on some limited editions versions, as well as the japanese version, of the self-titled album in 2013, they later got a wider release on the 2014 deluxe version of the album, which is why they’ve been removed from the most recent version of “the b-sides”

and there you have it!! there are actually even more paramore b-sides and bonus tracks than this, mostly either live or acoustic versions from various singles and deluxe editions, but i figured this post had got long enough already (and they’ve never appeared on any versions of the “b-sides” compilation) so i didn’t include them 😅

Hi!!! I’m a super big fan of all together cousins, and Im currently re-reading it for the like 4th time:) I know you havent updated in more then 5 years now, but is it something you’d ever think of continuing? Sorry if this is annoying feel free to tell me to shut up lol:)

Oh my gods my heart. Darling, I would never tell you to shut up.

The fact of the matter is that I started writing ATC when I was fourteen, which is over a decade ago now. Fourteen year old me had Big Brained Ideas, and a decent method of execution, but my writing has improved a lot since then and I've kind of fallen out of love with the story execution.

However, I have good news and bad news about All Together, Cousins.

The bad news is that I'm not continuing with the story as it currently stands. The difference between fourteen year old me's story writing abilities and twenty year old me's story writing abilities is stark, to the point where looking at chapter 2 vs chapter 13 is straight up jarring, and frankly? I don't like it. Also I kind of lost track of what I was doing between hiatuses, so I was relying on subplots and character development to drive the story, rather than an overarching plot.

The good news is that I'm in active revision for it. It's not the first story I've done it for; my series Fury's Stresses was a fic that I liked the idea of but not the execution, and overhauled it in its entirety. I'm working on a total outline for everything, so that I can refer to it as time goes on. I'll be splitting it up into three parts, rather than one long fic that ATC became (I still don't understand what in Hades's name high school me was on, tbh, the amount that I wrote for the rewrite of BotL was longer than the original book).

oh how did the bug hunt go? a spider decided to get into my bed last week, while I was in it. I ended up sleeping in the living room for two nights, until I could find and capture the offender..

french pronunciation is super consistent, plus my last french teacher often did her lessons entirely in french so if you didn't study hard enough then you'd struggle to keep up. although the numbers are silly, and some of the verb forms are even sillier 😫

oh that's helpful! I didn't really use film and tv much to help me when I did my exams, but a local shop owner was from italy so I'd always chat to him and his family in italian when I went in there and they were so kind to me 😭😭 all I remember about the actual exams is for the german oral, I spoke about the 3rd defenestration of prague and how it led to the 30 years war and the assistant who was recording it could barely stop herself from corpsing all throughout

it is cool when you know you understand what is being said, it's true! my dutch vocab is still quite weak overall though so I need to spend more time on that :(

i get so burned out every time i learn a language and then when i pick it up again i have to relearn it a lot of the time and it is the worst feeling.

my Spanish exams were horrible because i was sick, but couldn’t miss my exams (except i didn’t show up to my english, history, and physics exams because of anxiety… but i still passed them) the content was fine, i didn’t find it especially hard, actually i found it a bit easier than i was expecting but maybe that’s because i’m a nerd afraid of failure and revised a lot. 😅

i’m just waiting out right now until my parents go to Amsterdam on Monday, i’m getting so impatient. i thought they were leaving sooner than they are so i’m not happy.

(i always feel so stupid ranting on this app or talking about this on here because this is a formula one blog and i just feel so idiotic, but i do it every time anyways or else i’ll just have to sit with it. so i told my sister about everything my parents did when i was younger, and still now and she was shocked but really really kind so i just cant wait for her to be here instead so i don’t have to walk on eggshells all of the time. i’m getting so impatient, i’m actually like a kid waiting to open their presents on christmas. i’m also impatient because i’m waiting for a response from DWP which i knew would take a long time but because all of this is happening it feels even longer. it doesn’t help that it’s a weekend now too, weekends are always the worst because my dad isn’t working but i’m fine, just very impatient and desperate 😅🤍)

My submission for Spectival! It's a bit of a spicy fic and my answers reflect this, so they're going under the cut 😅

3: What’s your favorite line of narration?

I'm proud of the smut in this one, so it's taken from that section when Baz is on his knees, post Simon's blow job:

The words come out dirty. I’m dirty. I’m jerking myself off at his feet and wearing his cum.

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

Yes! I have about 2.5k words that were cut or revised 😅

The plot of this fic is pretty straight forward: Simon gets glasses, feels weird about them, Baz solves everything with sex.

But, I was going round and round on how to go from Simon not feeling great to them fucking. Initially, I had Baz come up with this elaborate sexual reward system that ramped up the longer Simon wore his glasses.

The blow job happened in a similar fashion to the final version of the fic, but in the living room and there's no mirror involved. Post-blow job, however, the first draft took a real turn:

“I want to fuck you,” he says, slipping his fingers from my mouth and brushing his thumb against my swollen lips.

I want him to fuck me, too. Which is probably written plain as day on my blissed-out face, but I was planning on building up to sex over the next several days—increasing Simon’s reward the longer he kept up with his prescribed glasses routine.

Simon’s dick is already starting to perk back up, and his glasses are giving him this extra edge of authority. But… the plan.

“Three days,” I rasp out. “Be good and wear your glasses for three more days, and you can have me anyway you want me.”

The grip on my chin gets tighter. I’m about to say to hell with it and suggest we take this to the bedroom when Simon tilts his head and says, “You’ll do anything?” He feels for my fangs through my cheek.

“Almost anything.”

I can already see him start to mentally scroll through his wishlist. Simon loves a list.

“Anything within reason,” I stress.

He grins, and I suddenly feel like my plan is being turned against me. “Deal.”

After that Simon makes a list of sexual activities and presents it to Baz for review and consent. I got all the way through the first two items on the list (thigh fucking in the shower and orgasm denial) when I paused and thought... this is getting way too long and elaborate. The concept could be it's own PWP series! (Which I do want to still write someday)

So I stopped, put aside the consent list idea, and wrote a much, much shorter fic.

6. what's the hardest part of the writing process for you?

figure out how i want to end my pieces! this goes for both shorter one shots and longer projects. sometimes i'll have general ideas of how i want it to end, but i'm still writing without direction a lot of time hoping that i'll end up at the right place 😅. and i usually do. (i like my endings in general, it just takes a while to figure out how to get there).

7. how does receiving or not receiving feedback/support impact you?

i'm ngl it's hard sometimes when a fic you want to do well and love and adore doesn't quite get the reception you 'expect' or want. it's definitely something i struggle with sometimes even though feedback isn't everything.

i try to remember all the times in my years of reading fic that i really enjoyed something but neglected to leave a comment or forgot to give kudos and it makes me feel better (i'm much better about this nowadays lol). it's a comfort (at least to me) to know there's likely people out there enjoying my fics that i'll never know about and that's okay <3

on the flip side, there have been positive comments that have singlehandedly inspired me to work on or start new projects or continuations of projects.

9. what's your writing process like?

it very much depends! i almost never write chronologically and i don't really write what i consider outlines but i will daydream and then jot down ideas, especially for longer projects. usually a lot of my scenes start with just bare dialogue, since that's what comes easiest to me, and then i'll rework/flesh them out from there.

since i don't write scenes chronologically i'll often reorganize my writing too--either paragraphs or sometimes entire scenes will get moved around so the story flows better or makes more sense. once i have a rough draft i'll revise and edit until it feels somewhat presentable and then either give it to a beta or just take a step away for a little while (ideally at least a day or two) and then do some final passes myself.

and then i do the scary/fun thing and share it!

4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

I have a lot of ideas, but probably only four that have a real chance of seeing the light of day. One fic idea that I’ve been thinking about on and off (and it might be the next fic I write after I finish my current longfic) is about Aang and takes place 2-3 months after the war is over. Aang returns to the Southern Air Temple for the first time since his initial visit in Book 1, and it’s about him reckoning with the loss of his people with a solid dose of action and adventure and spirit world shenanigans.

5. Share one of your strengths.

LOL not this question again I think one of my strengths is that I always aim to write concisely. The crux of this concept is to omit needless words. It doesn’t mean writing short or sparse sentences, but rather to make every word count. For example, one way to do this is to use strong nouns and expressive verbs and use adjectives and adverbs sparingly. This article does a great job of summing up concise writing!

9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?

Hmm, I’d have to say Drag You Down, my Kataang break up/make up multichapter fic. It’s hard to write because I had to break up Kataang 😭 😭 😭 I was feeling the angst so much that when I was writing the beginning chapters where the breakup occurs, I had to write a few fluffy oneshots to bring balance to my sanity 😅 But it’s also been a challenge because I’ve created several OCs and I’ve done a lot of worldbuilding to flesh out the storyline. Add to that the fact it has become WAY longer than I originally intended it to be 😅 It’s been a good challenge though, and I’ve started writing the last few chapters that tie everything together, so the end is in sight! Whew!

21. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?

At least three times, usually more. The first revision is where the heaviest editing takes place. Each time after that, there is less and less that I have to change. After the second edit, I’m really looking at how the words flow and to see if there are any remaining inconsistencies. I also focus on trouble spots to see if there are ways I can restructure sentences or tweak word choice to make my writing sound the way I want it to. Then when I’m either happy with it or sick of looking at it, that’s when I finally post 😌

2) If you had to give up your keyboard and write your stories exclusively by hand, could you do it? If you already write everything by hand, a) are you a wizard and b) pen or pencil?

i could if i REALLY REALLY had to, but i would not be happy about it and the quality would suffer 😅 i write by hand when i need to shake off a block specifically because it forces me to write messier and more simply, so that i can then draft-2 and pretty it up upon transcription. without a computer i would undoubtedly write significantly less too.

5) Do you have any writing superstitions? What are they and why are they 100% true?

i don't think i do??? none that i can think of..... 🤔 unless we count my irrational fear that any time i erase and replace a passage, the replacement passage will be worse, which i'm fully aware is completely untrue but still have to aggressively beat into my own head every time i get stuck and have to make revisions. i don't think that counts lol.

10) Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?

i am eternally haunted by the ghosts of my semi-abandoned WIPs and the really really good ideas i had for fandoms i'm no longer interested in writing for. RIP to all those Merlin ideas that were so cooooool and will probably never get written 😬

i adore your writing .. i was wondering when you're writing how do you plan things out? i've got an idea for a longer fic and i'm just struggling with the best way to plan it out

ah, yes, planning, something I'm very good at and consistently do... 😅

I'm a sporadic planner. my instinct is to plan everything, but I often have a problem where I'll feel stuck, or like the project isn't living up to expectations, and I'll freeze up. I'm trying to get better at it!

I'm working largely based off of ideas from @ticklefighthockey about how to build up stories from nothing, and big parts of that are: having a general idea of the story you want to tell, coming up with the general story structure of that story (like, say, a childhood friends to lovers story), and writing in low-stakes environments where you let the writing be a phase of discovery.

the thing about writing is that this isn't following a recipe. you are building as you create. the story will not exist in its final form if you do not WRITE it through that journey, you know?

I'd suggest this: write out the plot you know at the moment. have a vague idea of where you want the story to go (or a specific idea~ whatever is working for you). then begin writing. write wherever you want to. write the big scene you're excited for. write what's capturing your attention.

then see how you feel, and try to figure out how to get there, or where to go from there. explore via your text. write with bad grammar and in the notes app of your phone. set a timer and write on your laptop for 10 minutes, no breaks. whatever works for you, just write and see how things stitch together.

your writing/the story is going to evolve the more you write. you have to be willing to adapt to that, I think. I've only written one "longer" fic, and it was done with a VERY rough outline and a very short timeline. I think for the next longer project i take on, I'm going to be more focused on writing in drafts (for revisions) and in letting my story evolve as I tell it, I suppose.

also, find betas. find a support system who you can talk with about the fic. that is the BEST for me when I have plot troubles or writing woes. good luck!

There’s a heaviness in the air, and it’s damn near suffocating. After Tony’s funeral, everyone lingered, staying for a little while longer to give their condolences, to reminisce on the billionaire’s life and how he impacted theirs. A rather painful task, especially for you. Tony had been a major part of your life, becoming something close to a surrogate father to you. There’d been a lower-scale alien attack, leaving you severely injured and orphaned. Tony somehow crossed your path, and you ended up under his tutelage. You wouldn’t call what you had with him a job or an internship, because he cared for you but also gave you the freedom to learn what he does. Everything you know is because of Tony. That’s why his death hit you so hard, and that’s why hearing everyone reminisce made you upset.

“He was a good man, he was taken too soon.”

Those words, coming from America’s Golden Boy™ himself, sent you teetering off the edge. Before you could stop yourself, you had already slammed your hand on the table you sat at and jolted out of your seat, catching everyone’s attention as you glared at Steve with tear-filled eyes.

“How dare you,” you exclaim, your voice cracking and thick with emotion. “You have no right talking about him. You have no right being here.”

“Y/N...,” Rhodey started, his voice low and hesitant, trying — hoping — to calm you down. You only shook your head, sending an equally heated glare his way. The glare made Rhodey hesitate, making the worried glint in his eyes intensify.

“You never cared about him, Captain,” you spat, your gaze snapping back to Steve’s. You felt the tears beginning to fall, and you had to take in a breath before continuing. “None of you cared about him,” you exclaim. “Not like I did. Not like Pepper, or Happy, or Rhodey, Peter or even Morgan did! You all needed him when it was convenient, and now you’re acting like he meant something to you.”

You wipe your face, trying — and failing — to dry it from the seemingly endless stream of tears. “And you,” you snap, pointing at Steve. “You were always fighting him, disagreeing with him. You don’t get to act like Tony’s your pal when nothing he did was ever good enough for you.”

Without another word, and without giving anyone the satisfaction of responding, you storm out of the room.

7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

Ooof why did you ask me this?? These kinds of questions area always hard for me to answer 😅 But I think I did manage to find one passage that I like from Without Water, my fic about the ordeal Katara went through as she tried to heal an unconscious Aang between Book 2 and Book 3:

After that wave of grief faded away, she lifted her head. She was so close to Aang’s face that if he opened his eyes, she would have a hard time explaining to him what she was doing. But his eyes remained closed, the fringes of his eyelashes like dark lines that sealed them shut. He had grown pale over the weeks, and the shock of black hair that had grown in made him look…different. Like someone she didn’t know. The only part of him that was still Aang was the blue arrow that graced his forehead. For even his face no longer belonged to him—a motionless, unchanging blank. Katara was starting to forget what he looked like when he smiled.

This paragraph is near the end, where it’s starting to dawn on Katara what exactly Aang means to her, and also when she’s nearly stretched to the limit because she has done everything she can, and he still hasn’t woken up, and she isn’t sure if he ever will. I’m proud of this passage because it’s more than just a description of how Aang’s appearance has changed--it is also about the emotional impact of those changes, how those changes affect the way she thinks about him. To me, that’s the ultimate goal of writing description - to not only paint a picture but to also attach meaning to that picture that goes below the surface. It’s not easy to do and definitely takes effort, and I am always working to improve in that department!

14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Oh man. It's gotta be the advice to make writing more interesting by using synonyms. This isn't bad advice per se, but it's SO easy to overuse and abuse. Synonyms can definitely break up the monotony of using the same word over and over. But one doesn’t necessarily need to say, for example, “knuckleheaded fool” when something simpler like “idiot” would probably fit better. Also, words that are synonyms are not perfect substitutes for each other, so they often can’t be used interchangeably - this is where it pays to understand the nuances and implications that each word carries. It’s better to understand what a word means and where and when to use it, than to stuff a sentence full of synonyms when simpler words and phrasing would suffice.

23. If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?

Probably Midnight Meditations. I'm happy with the story itself, but it was the first piece of creative writing I've done after a 10-year hiatus, and I've grown a lot as a writer in the past year since I've been writing ATLA fanfic. I would edit MM for style, like more concrete imagery, description, and metaphors.

35. Would you ever kill off a canon character?

Why am I not surprised you picked this one Hmmm, good question! For now, I would say that if I had to kill off a canon character, it would be a side character. If it was a major character, I would have to have a whole story around it, and I don't have any ideas like that right now. But if I have the right story idea, it could be any character, really--no one is safe 🔪😈 If I ever come up with a story idea like that, you'll be the first to know 😌
