Mr and Mr Smith
They had been married for five years and yet neither of them had realised that they were married to an assassin. It all changed when Hoseok thinks he spotted his husband on a mission.

Day 3 - Gang/Assassin
I really had no idea what I wanted to do for this challenge so after several hours of procrastinating, I turned on my TV to see Mr and Mrs Smith was on… this is what happened.
-x-
He may have been wearing a disguise but there was no doubt in my mind as I raced back to the house that it had been him, and that he had seen me.
I was relieved to see that I arrived at the house first. On any ‘normal’ day, I was the first to leave and the first to arrive home… even though I was sure that he saw me, I couldn’t risk anything being different in case I was wrong. I pulled the car into the drive and decided against putting it into the garage, I also left the keys in the ignition. If I needed to make a quick getaway, I wanted to make sure I had an easy way out.
As soon as I stepped through the door I could smell the delicious aroma of home-cooked food. I’d never cooked a day in my life but Yoongi always made sure to have food ready in the oven for when I arrived back at the house. To protect my cover, there were a few things arranged through the office that made me seem like the good house-husband. I turned on the lights as I walked through the house, making it seem to anyone looking in as though I’d been home a little while. I stopped by a photograph on the wall of our wedding day and pressed my thumb along the bottom. The frame made a hissing noise and then slide up the wall, revealing a secret stash of weapons I kept in the house for emergencies. I grabbed a small gun and strapped it to my ankle, then placed a small knife up my left sleeve in the pocket that had been specially built in. I was ready for whatever came my way tonight.
I was just putting the food out onto the dining table when I heard him come in through the front door. He wasn’t any later than usual but I had expected him home earlier… if it had of course been him I’d seen. He was waiting in the kitchen by the time I returned and he gave me an easy smile as he usually did.
“Beer?” I asked him as I walked to the fridge to get a bottle of wine for the dinner table. I was standing at the fridge when he approached me, he kissed my cheek softly but I noticed the way his hands circled my waist, then caressed my stomach before moving to my lower back. As things usually went between us, it was a rare display of affection. If he was the man I saw today, then he was clearly checking to see if I was armed.
“Beer would be great,” he said with a grin as he stepped away. I quickly grabbed a beer and took it to the table along with the wine. “Dinner smells good,” he followed me into the dinning room.
“I made your favourite,” I smiled at him as I took my usual seat at the end of the table closest to the kitchen.
“Special occasion?”
“Do I need an excuse to treat my husband every once in a while?” I watched him closely as he took his usual seat at the other end of the table as far away from me as he could get.
This is how our marriage was now. Five year ago when we were first married, we couldn’t get enough of each other. Wandering hands and lingering kisses were a thing of the past, they had been for at least three years now. Our conversations had lessened over the years, reduced to the occasional small talk when we needed to make a decision regarding the house. Our life together had become predictable, the same old routine played over and over again as soon as I opened my eyes each morning. I’m not sure what happened, I couldn’t pin point the moment it began to change. All I know is that it did.
“Could you pass the potatoes?” I asked.
I watched him smile and stand up slowly. He picked up the bowl of potatoes and brought them to me, deliberately taking his time. This was something else that was unusual for him, normally he would just push whatever I had asked for down the table. He’d barely even look at me, often he was too busy looking at something on his phone. I gave him what I hoped was a grateful smile and placed a few potatoes on my plate. I watched him return to his seat and he placed the same amount of potatoes on his own plate. It was at that point that I realised he hadn’t touched his food. The whole time we had been together, he would devour his food with such ferocity that anyone would believe he had been starved for weeks.
“Something the matter?” I asked, picking up a carrot with my fork and popping it in my mouth.
He smiled. “Nothing at all,” he too picked up and ate a carrot.
It was at that moment I knew for sure that he’d seen me. What I still didn’t know was if he knew I had seen him. Was he testing me?
“Good day at the office?” I took a long sip of wine.
“The usual,” he said as he stood up once more. He collected the bottle of wine I had brought in with me as he passed it on the table and moved toward me. “Nothing surprising…” the way he said it had me on edge. “Would you like me to refill your glass?” I looked up at him and nodded slowly. He stood right beside me, so close I could feel the heat of his body. He leaned over me to pick up my glass and I watched him splash a generous amount of wine into it. As he placed it down in front of me, I kept my eyes on his hand just in case he tried anything.
“Thank you,” I said as I picked up another bite of food. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed his other hand move and the bottle of wine slipped out of his grasp. Instinct took over and before I knew it, my hand shot out and caught the bottle before it landed on the floor. I glanced up at him as he glanced down at the bottle and I realised what I’d done... I let the bottle slip from my hand, the wine spilt across the new carpet. “I’ll get a towel,” I was on my feet and fleeing the dinning room before I could hear what he said to me.
How could I be so stupid?!
If he was still wondering if it had been me that he had seen, any doubts would have been cleared up after my mistake. I knew I needed to get out as quick as I could.
I ran through the kitchen, out the back door and straight to the garage. I was glad that I had left the car in the drive, that I had left the keys in the ignition. I started up the car and as I pulled out of the drive I bumped into his car. The alarm shrieked and I knew he must have heard it even if he hadn’t yet realised I’d left the house. As I turned the car onto the road and shifted gear, I saw him run out of the house.
“Hobi!”
I didn’t linger long enough to hear what he had to say. I stepped down hard on the peddle and sped off down the road. In my rear view mirror I saw him run to the neighbours yard and I knew he was hoping to cut me off somewhere along the suburban road. I shook my head in disbelief, how could I have been so blind? We were the same. He was an assassin just like me… I couldn’t understand how we had kept this secret from each other for so long. I was known for my skills, for being able to track down even the most difficult of targets. I made it my business to find out everything I could about a target, right down to the smallest details… and yet I didn’t even realise the man I had been married to for five years was a killer…
It made me wonder if he had been just as oblivious of me.
I turned a sharp corner and with my mind on other things I had momentarily taken my eyes off the houses. But I suddenly saw him cut across someone’s lawn, he tripped over a child’s bike but it didn’t slow him down and I knew if he kept it up, he be able to cut me off. I hit accelerate.
“Hoseok!”
I glanced toward him again and just as I did, I saw him crash into a fence. I heard something ping through my front window and I ducked just as I felt something whizzing past me, I pushed down hard on the brake and I came to a screeching halt. I took a few calming breathes before I slowly lifted my head. I saw the tiny hole in my front window, perfectly round and the exact size of a 9mm bullet to be precise. I glanced behind me and saw to my horror that the bullet had hit my head rest. If I hadn’t ducked on instinct, I would most likely be dead…
I spun around to glare at my husband who was looking at me in total shock from where he was still tangled in the fence. I knew it was likely a mistake but the fact that he was chasing after me with the safety off his gun spoke volumes and I felt my anger rising. I watched him pull himself from the fence and quickly run into the middle of the road, his hands in the air in surrender, his gun hanging limp from his little finger.
“That was an accident,” he said sheepishly.
I narrowed my eyes at him and straightened up in my chair.
“Don’t do anything you’re going to regret,” there was a warning in his voice. “I just want to talk…”
Regret? I smirked and pushed down on the accelerate with a growl. The tires screeched on the road as I drove straight forward, giving him no other option than to jump out of the way. I could see him in my rear view mirror, his hands on his head as he watched me drive away.
This was game on.
“Give me your best shot, Namjoon Smith.”
-x-
Ok so I definitely will be revisiting this one. I had so much fun writing this and I can’t wait to continue with it in some way. Maybe I’ll make it into a multi-chapter fic? Mr and Mrs Smith Namseok style. I think Hobi and Joonie fit really well with the characters in the film. What do you think? Let me know if you want to read more of this, I’d definitely be up for writing more if you want to read it.
Anyway, thanks for reading! Please let me know what you thought, all feedback is welcome and I love making new friends - come say hi on twitter at RexHope3 x
