New season, new shows, mostly sequels.

I have warmed up to Digimon Adventure: since it has started to focus on the remaining members of the cast instead of just Yamato and Taichi. I’m enjoying seeing how it’s handling the initial evolutions for each digimon.

I must admit that I’m not the biggest ReZero fan. I think it’s fine but it’s never really connected well with me like it has with many others. Still, I do find some of the plotlines and characters intriguing. So far, season 2 has mostly focused on a story that I haven’t really been interested in but the last scene of episode 3 did get my attention so I’m looking forward to getting more information about Subaru’s life on Earth.

I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to watch that last season of Oregairu since I can’t aford HiDive so I’m glad that Crunchy was able to pick it up as well. My favourite thing about the series is the way that it treats Hachiman’s self-sacrifical behaviour as unhealthy for his mental state and, 3 episodes in, the season hasn’t shown much of that yet but I’ve still been enjoying it a lot anyway. I especially liked the sibling bonds that we’ve been seeing between Komachi and Hachiman and episode 3 was a lot of fun all around.

SAO is still the ultimate guilty pleasure series for me. Despite all of it’s many, many flaws, I still come out of each episode enjoying it. I’ve never been able to quite understand what it is about the series that keeps me coming back in a way that no other series has. The new season didn’t start off amazingly with yet another sexual assault scene that focuses on the pain of someone who has to watch sexual assault happen rather than, you know, the actual victim of said sexual assault. Thankfully, Asuna’s stuff has made up for it and I think it helps that I never finished the Alicization arc in the light novels (I got up to volume 15 I think before stopping due to personal reasons, skipped Moon Cradle and came back in for Unital Ring) so I can’t compare it. So I’m still enjoying the series and I look forward to a new episode every week.

I started Lapis Re:LiGHTs and it’s okay. I’m three episodes in and I still don’t know where it’s going because so little has happened (like, based on the advertising of the game, I’m pretty sure this is meant to be an idol anime but only episode 2 has had an idol sequence so far and episode 3 just ignores that happened) and the characters are very archetypical. That being said, I do find myself smiling sometimes when I’m watching it so I guess it’s doing something right and I’ll continue it for now.

I don’t know what to think about Deca-Dence yet because it keeps on introducing new things each episode so I have no idea where it’s going to go but I am definitely interested in finding out more and I’m enjoying it overall so far. I also really like Natsume and Pipe.
